- 1973 Dino 246 GTS 1
The much sought-after Ferrari 246 Dino GT was named after Enzo Ferrari's son Alfredo, who died in 1956, aged just 24. Enzo Ferrari credits his son with the inspiration for a series of successful small and medium capacity V6 racing engines built by Ferrari from 1956, and in turn, the name was given to a new line of mid-engined production Ferrari V6 coupés, which first went on sale in 1969. The Dino 246 GT has proved to be one of the most satisfying and successful automobiles built by Ferrari and paved the way for the emerging generation of mid-engined Ferraris. It is widely regarded as one of the best-handling and most gratifying automobiles of the early 70s, it is one of the most attractive, delicately balanced designs ever produced by the masters at Pininfarina. As a result, Dinos have enjoyed a well-deserved recent surge in popularity. The GTS version of the 246 Dino arrived at the Geneva Salon in March 1972, it was built on the series III platform and featured a removable targa roof panel that could be stowed behind the seats. The chassis was also modified with reinforced extra bracing along the sides and front of the engine frame. Aside the targa top visibly the GTS could be identified by the lack of rear three-quarter windows, these being replaced by a bank of three vents carved out from each sail panel. Production of both the GT and GTS came to an end in 1974, just 1274 GTSs were built. As of March 2016, this Dino GTS had just three registered keepers before sale to the current custodian. Remarkably low mileage and well cared for, this example today presents with just 27,250 miles from new. This 246 GTS was supplied new to Mr N R Kempton through H.R. Owen of Golders Green in early 1973, in Blu Dino 106-A72 over black vinyl and black carpets. Ordered through importer Maranello Concessionaires, the original specification included electrically operated windows, five wheels, tools and a nose bar. Mr Kempton, joint managing director of uniform supplier T W Kempton in Leicestershire had registered the car from new on his cherished registration mark ‘NRK 1’. In January 1978, the Dino moved to the care of its second custodian, Mr W Ford of Rothley, close to Mr Kempton and also in Leicestershire. A letter in the file wishes the new owner well and the best in the continued care of the GTS, and the response back suggests that Ford will keep the car registered with Kempton as ‘I think that if ever I do sell it, it looks much better with just one owner in the logbook’ ! [Sic] Later in January, Mr Ford had Graypaul Motors carry out a huge amount of work on the GTS (still registered NRK 1!) The works totalled £2,010, nearly half the list price of the Dino and included a full engine-out rebuild. In November ’78, Ford finally applied his cherished registration mark ’67 WF’. On 4th October 1981, the GTS was purchased by longterm custodian-to be, Mr Flanagan. Included in the file is a letter by Mr Flanagan from 2016, recalling his purchase 35 years earlier from Ford in Rothley, Leicestershire. Flanagan continued to have the Dino serviced by Graypaul yet used the car remarkably sparingly. In his first 19 years of ownership, Flanagan would cover an average of just 220 miles a year. Between 2000 and 2016, his total mileage would drop below even that, with the car covering just 175 miles in the 16 year period. In 2016 Flanagan parted ways with the Dino for personal reasons, and the car was purchased by the current custodian. It was sent to Ferrari main dealer Meridien Modena of Lyndhurst for a thorough inspection and service, remedying a faulty rev counter and two leaking shock absorbers at the same time. Shortly thereafter, the Dino was dispatched to Hong Kong. Servicing was handled by Blackbird Concessionaires, the official Ferrari dealer and service centre. Stored as part of a collection, the current owner has covered just under 2,000 miles in 8 years. This example returned to the UK in January 2024 and since been through our workshops for a full inspection and major service as part of the sale. This wonderful Dino GTS presents superbly and is awaiting its next custodian, available to view at our showrooms outside London immediately. 1973 Dino 246 GTS D.K. Friedrich had the Pantera converted to Group 5 by the De Tomaso factory and raced it in various hill climbs, including Oberhallau, La Roche and Gurnigel. The owner history in later years is well known. The car is very well documented and many documents such as the original order form, purchase invoice, work cards/workshop order from the De Tomaso factory as well as photos from the time are available. Also mentioned and described in two De Tomaso books is this desirable De Tomaso Pantera Group 5. The last owner optimized this Pantera Gr 5 again for historic racing. The correct 351 cu-in Ford Cleveland engine is equipped with dry sump lubrication and produces 523 hp according to the dyno. The transmission has been revised and fitted with ratios suitable for circuit racing. The entire chassis was also revised and adapted by means of new shock absorbers and springs, aluminum bushings, reinforced steering column and new brake system with adjustable balance. For endurance racing, in addition to the existing 75-liter tank, a 50-liter FT3 tank was mounted at the front. - 1967 Aston Martin DB6 Vantage
Completed at the Newport Pagnell factory on 7 December 1967, this Aston Martin DB6 has been impeccably cared for throughout its life and comes with three extensive files that amount to virtually a full service history from new. Chassis number DB6/3316/R was registered PMX 410F on 21 December and delivered to its first owner – Captain AE Hare – on 3 January 1968. It was finished in Pacific Blue with Natural interior and featured the 325bhp Vantage engine, plus a heated rear screen, 3.73:1 limited-slip differential and power aerial. Including Purchase Tax, it cost its proud new custodian £3587 15s 10d. Throughout Captain Hare’s ownership, the DB6 was cared for by the factory and the detailed service records are included with the car’s paperwork. He clearly made the most of his Aston Martin – by the time it was serviced on 3 November 1971, it had covered 38,231 miles. Captain Hare owned the car until the mid-1970s, when it passed to Dr CH Cripps. He had it serviced and looked after by leading specialists such as Richard Stewart Williams. In 1983, Dr Cripps had repairs carried out to the sills and the windscreen replaced, and the following year the DB6 was acquired by a new owner – a Mr G Munthe. The Aston Martin was fully restored over a period of several years during the late 1980s and early 1990s, including an engine rebuild in 1993. Its detailed service records continue for the rest of that decade and into the 21st century, and the DB6 has twice been sold by Aston Martin Works in the past 10 years. It also received a major service there in 2019. Now beautifully presented in Dubonnet with matching Tudor Webasto sunroof and a Fawn interior, this Aston Martin DB6 retains its matching-numbers status and is being offered for sale by the Classic Motor Hub. It comes with its original instruction book as well as its book of service vouchers, MoT test certificates from 1980 onwards, and a detailed record of servicing and maintenance dating back to when it was new. Inertia-reel seatbelts have been added in the rear, and there are discreet supplementary speakers alongside the standard unit in the rear parcel shelf. 1967 Aston Martin DB6 Vantage The Classic Motor Hub If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1974-jensen-interceptor-iii-by-jenson-international-automotive-jia
The Jensen Interceptor III re-mastered by Jensen International Automotive (JIA) offered at Autostorico is a September 1974 example finished in Candy Apple Red with Black leather quilted leather interior. Having covered 29,485 miles this very special car (one of one) has been significantly upgraded and can only be described as epic to drive. The car was originally built for a client by JIA and painted in a dark Burgundy with a tan interior trim. The client specified a manual gearbox, and the car was built with a standard LS3 engine with a Tremec 6 speed manual box. He also wanted wider wheels, and this was the first of these cars to have the wider wheels going on to to become a standard JIA specification. The rear arches were also widened to accommodate the larger tyres which at the time is unique to this car. The client used the car sparingly and offered the car back to JIA, who at the time needed a demonstration vehicle. JIA converted it back to a 4-speed automatic and shortly afterwards painted it in its current Candy Apple Red. The car served as a demonstration car for a couple of years until another demo car was complete, at which stage it was converted back to manual. Shortly after completion the new demo car got badly damaged on a track day at Goodwood, so the red car got pressed back into working duty for a further year, during which time it helped to sell a further three manual cars. With the completion of a new demonstrator the red car become surplus to requirement and JIA started to play with it for R & D purposes to see if it could appeal to the more sporting driver. The body remained untouched, but the interior was changed to black quilted leather with red accents including the headlining. The car was purchased by its current owner in 2022 a well-respected historic racing driver who undertook extra modifications and upgrades to produce the ultimate Jensen. These modifications included. Engine: LS3 6.2 V8, with uprated ASA 525 camshaft, circa 520bhp. Headers: Pair of stainless tubular headers, mated to a standard JIA 2.5” stainless system, fitted with a remote exhaust cut off valve. Clutch: Uprated twin plate clutch on a lighter flywheel. Gearbox: Magnum, TS6 6 Speed. Diff: Jaguar 3.5 ratio unit uprated with “Gripper” LSD. Front suspension: Fully adjustable, “Trakspax” bespoke coil -overs, anti-roll bar uprated to “stiffer” with rose joint drop links. Rear suspension: Fully adjustable independent “Trakpax”, bespoke rear ARB fitted with rose joint drop links. Brakes: AP racing 6 pot progressive callipers, with 1 “bigger discs. Uprated to BMW M unit with adjustable brake bias. Steering wheel: 14” suede covered MotorLita. Wheels: 18” with wider rims and tyres. 245/40R and 275/35R. Alan Mann Racing Ltd have set up and tuned the engine and have carried out various upgrades to suite the current owner. - 1962 Jaguar XKE Series 1 Roadster
General History Beautiful body lines, unrivaled performance, and racing lineage combined at the dawn of the 1960s to make the Jaguar XKE an immediate sensation. With its beautiful lines and affordable price, the E-Type grew to iconic status where it has remained for more than half a century adored by collectors and enthusiasts. Independent front and rear suspension, disc brakes all around (inboard at the rear to reduce unsprung weight), and Jaguar’s legendary twin-cam inline six-cylinder engine were among the many aspects contributing to the allure. Sales were brisk with continuous development growing in both American and European markets. Continuing sales would advance into the 1970s, but enthusiasts and collectors steadfastly confirm admiration for the Series 1 models as one of the most beautiful and capable sports cars ever conceived. History of this Example According to the current owner, this car has been in California, located in the South Bay area for the majority of its life, possibly since new. It is believed to have been finished at the factory in red with black leather interior and repainted some years ago. At some point under prior ownership, the car was fitted with a 4.2-liter engine and all-synchromesh 4-speed, both of which remain in the car today. Currently wearing a vintage black and gold license plate UHR 234, it is possible this license plate has been on the car since the mid 1960s. The current owner purchased this car from his neighbor, a long-term owner, approximately ten years ago and has performed regular oil and fluid changes, installed an electric cooling fan, and replaced the entire exhaust system from the headers back including stainless-steel mufflers. has enjoyed the car for several years, participating in rallies and various local car club events. Having restored another XKE to a very high standard, this roadster is his “go to” car for enjoyable driving and event participation. – one that he can easily use without worry or concern. As part of the local history, an oil change sticker remains affixed to the door jamb indicating 8,616 miles when it was serviced in 1985. Current Condition Today, this Jaguar XKE roadster boasts high gloss red exterior paint and a black canvas top with black interior, all of which present very well. The paint is quite nice overall showing only minor areas of use including a few chips and light scuff marks, none of which detract from the generally nice presentation. The lighting, lenses, and glass are very clean, headlight buckets are correctly finished in satin silver, and the chrome front and rear bumpers are in very good condition. The body integrity is solid overall, with good panel gaps on the doors and good bonnet closure. The trunk lid sits slightly proud on the driver’s side but latches and releases without issue. The windshield surround is in very nice condition with good trim and correct triple wipers. The car wears a set of chrome wire wheels which are in excellent condition, finished with chrome dual ear knockoffs and Vredestein Sport Classic series tires. The convertible top raises and lowers easily with no significant marks on the canvas material which appears to have been more recently replaced. The black leather and vinyl interior is clean and tidy, finished to correct factory contours. The leather seats are comfortable and firm and appear to have been more recently reupholstered including the inner seat foam, which remains in very good condition. The remaining interior is finished in black vinyl including the door cards, door sills, arm rest, and matching center console, all of which are in very good condition. Carpet and floor mats are in very good condition, though some of the associated trim, such as the shifter boot edge beading exhibit signs of age. The black dash pad is properly contoured, and the instruments, switches, and other features of the interior all appear to be correct for this early Series 1 XKE. The trunk houses a matching wire wheel and a set of tools and jack as well as two knock off wheel hammers. The interior conveys a harmonious look and feel very much in keeping with original specifications believed to have been delivered when new. Under the hood, the engine has been upgraded to the later series 4.2-liter type. The finishes are correct and accurate for this series car and the engine compartment has been properly detailed. The correct carburetors, silver hammer-tone factory air cleaner assembly, and air filter box are reflective of former restoration efforts and regular care and detailing under current ownership. The various ancillary components, hoses, clamps, and various hardware appear to have also been correctly finished and detailed per original specifications and still retain a very handsome presentation. Importantly, the front suspension “picture frame” is in place bearing the original matching chassis number and an original chassis plate is also in place, referencing the matching chassis number as well as the original engine number, R 3091-9. The undercarriage appears sound and tidy, while the overall integrity of the body seams, welded floors, and suspension components appear properly prepared including helpful upgrades such as GAZ front and rear shock absorbers and a pair of stainless-steel mufflers dated 2020. Included with the car The car is accompanied by a set of tools and tool roll, THOR copper head knock off Hammer, rubber mallet, a folding knife, and a jack. 1962 Jaguar XKE Series 1 Roadster Fantasy Junction If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright General History Beautiful body lines, unrivaled performance, and racing lineage combined at the dawn of the 1960s to make the Jaguar XKE an immediate sensation. The Delta Integrale was based on the Lancia Delta, a compact family car, but was transformed into a high-performance rally car through its evolution into the Integrale. The Delta Integrale made its debut in the 1987 World Rally Championship and quickly established itself as a dominant force in the competition, winning the championship six times in a row between 1987 and 1992. Some of the key changes included a larger turbocharger, a modified intercooler, and revised suspension. The EVO 1 also featured cosmetic changes, such as a new front grille and a rear spoiler, which helped to improve its aerodynamics. - 1987-ferrari-f1-87-formula-1
The Ferrari F1-87 Towards the end of the first ‘turbo era’ in Formula 1, drivers weren’t so much as driving the cars than wrestling them, such was the extraordinary power they were producing. Ferrari’s class of 1987, the popular duo of Gerhard Berger and Michele Alboreto, had the pleasure of taming the Prancing Horse’s most powerful single-seater of them all, the F1-87. Its all-new 90-degree blown V6 kicked out a dizzying 950bhp, which, combined with a sophisticated chassis and aero package designed by Gustav Brunner and honed by John Barnard, made for an extremely effective racing car. Just seven chassis left Maranello for the Scuderia to race, of which the car we’re thrilled to be offering, number 098, was the most successful. Chassis no. 098 Alboreto finished third in Monaco, marking an impressive debut for chassis number 098 With a record 26 starters and an alarming eight-second disparity in lap times between the fastest and the slowest cars, the Monaco Grand Prix in 1987 brought with it a certain sense of anxiety in the paddock. Anxiety that was realised barely 10 minutes into the first qualifying session, when Michele Alboreto’s Ferrari collided with the Zakspeed of Christian Danner in what was an especially nasty incident. For his role, Danner was promptly sent home. And in a remarkable display of resilience, a battered and bruised Alboreto climbed straight into the spare F1-87, chassis number 098, and stuck it on the fifth spot on the grid. After a revised rear wing was fitted in a bid to quell the wheelspin Alboreto had complained about during qualifying, the Italian was finally able to put down the immense power of his turbocharged V6. “We imagine the champagne tasted especially sweet for Alboreto after a traumatic and physically challenging weekend on the Côte d’Azur.” Crucially, in the race, he kept his nose out of the trouble that plagued so many others and crossed the finish line third. We imagine the champagne tasted especially sweet for Alboreto after a traumatic and physically challenging weekend on the Côte d’Azur. Chassis number 098 assumed the role of Alboreto’s primary car for the four Grands Prix that followed: Detroit, France, Britain and Germany. Ferrari flexed its financial muscle throughout the 1987 season, its technical team helmed by Englishman John Barnard constantly working on myriad aspects of the F1-87 to improve its pace and reliability. Innovations such as the stepped rear wing, electronic sensor readout displaying the live speed and current gear, the Gleason differential, which varied the distribution of torque to the rear wheels, and stronger carbon-fibre clutch. Particular attention was paid to the engine, with a view to unlocking power lower in the rev range and increasing top-end power for the fastest circuits. Gerhard Berger assumed control of chassis number 098 from the Italian Grand Prix onwards By the time Ferrari’s number-one driver, Gerhard Berger, assumed control of chassis number 098 at the halfway point of the season, the potential of the F1-87 had started to show – not that Ferrari let up with its quest to improve. An encouraging top-three qualifying spot at Monza preceded a stunning pole position at Estoril in Portugal. Back in Maranello there was cause to celebrate, for the Scuderia had not recorded a pole position since the opening round of the 1985 Formula 1 World Championship. Agonisingly, after a race-long battle with the McLaren of Alain Prost, Berger was forced to settle for second place. Leaving Portugal with six points and the fastest lap must have instilled hope for all at the Scuderia nonetheless. Further fastest laps at the following Spanish and Mexican Grands Prix reaffirmed the sheer pace of the F1-87. Berger finally tasted the spoils of success in the Japanese Grand Prix, which he won driving chassis number 098 The far-flung final rounds of the 1987 Formula 1 season beckoned and Ferrari was bullish. “Of one fact nobody had been in any doubt for the three previous months,” stated Autocourse ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, “was that Gerhard Berger was knocking on the door of Ferrari’s first victory in a couple of years and the lanky Austrian needed only a slice of luck to put the Prancing Horse back where millions of Italian fans believed it belonged.” Mercifully, Lady Luck would play ball in the Land of the Rising Sun. That this was the first Grand Prix on Japanese soil in a decade was lost on not one of the 100,000-strong crowd, which expectantly filled the Suzuka grandstands hours before the race. Berger started from the pole and was unchallenged throughout. Apart from the odd missed gearchange, he drove a faultless race, not only putting a long-overdue victory in the bag, but wiping the floor with Honda in its own backyard. “I’m sure the old man will sleep more easily over the winter now we’ve won again at last,” exclaimed Berger after the chequered flag had fallen. Berger finished the 1987 Formula 1 season with an emphatic victory at Adelaide with this very F1-87 Not even a heavy cold could slow Berger’s momentum heading into the final round of the season in Adelaide, Australia. Down under, the Austrian asserted Ferrari’s technical authority with a near-flawless performance across the weekend. Having scratched a third pole position onto his competition record, Berger was only momentarily not in the lead of the race proper when Nelson Piquet barged past before the first chicane. A mere 200 yards later, Berger had retaken the top spot, where he’d remain until the chequered flag fell on the race – and indeed the season – 89 laps later. “I honestly wondered whether I would be able to last out the distance,” the sickly and profusely sweaty Austrian pronounced after the race. “Particularly when I’d been driving for what seemed ages only to notice a pit board telling me there were still 50 laps to go!” Amazingly, compounding Berger’s discomfort was one of his ear plugs, which worked itself loose around five laps into the race, leaving him to contend with a near-deafening engine on top of the task at hand. Racing drivers really are a different breed… This F1-87 is accompanied by copies of Ferrari factory correspondence and a spares package including a rear wing and a period telemetry acquisition computer With two race wins, two further podiums, three pole-position starts and three fastest laps under its belt, it’s fair to say chassis number 098 served the Prancing Horse honourably over the course of its 11 entries for the Works Scuderia Ferrari outfit. Most definitely a season of momentum-building and technical persistence, Ferrari threw the proverbial kitchen sink at the F1-87 and this chassis exemplified that gradual enhancement. When later asked which of all the cars he drove during his 13-year Formula 1 career was his favourite, Berger answered with the F1-87. “The last turbocharged single-seater, actually the penultimate but the most ‘real’, because it had over 900bhp and the following year they limited power to 650bhp,” he recalled fondly. “With that car I won in Japan and Australia. But I’m not fond of it so much for the two victories, but because of the driving pleasure it gave me.” Perhaps more pertinently to disciples of the marque today, this was the last Ferrari Il Commendatore witnessed win a Formula 1 race before his death in August of the following year. And for those same disciples, there can surely be no higher peak to summit than acquiring one of the Prancing Horse’s history-steeped single-seaters and following in the tyre tracks of the Ferrari heroes of yesteryear. F1 Clienti, part of the marque’s ultra-exclusive Corse Clienti arm, is your chance to join the Ferrari family and drive the F1-87 during private events on the world’s greatest motor circuits. The 2025 Ferrari F1 Clienti programme includes Monza, Paul Ricard, Miami, Fuji, Spa-Francorchamps and Mugello. The generous track time is controlled and non-competitive and includes coaching from professional Ferrari test-drivers, spare tyres and bespoke logistics. Away from the track there’s the world-class and intimate hospitality you’d expect from Ferrari. “Pertinently for disciples of the marque today, this was the last Ferrari Il Commendatore witnessed win a Formula 1 race before his death the following year.” Fearsome flame-belching turbocharged engines pumping out in excess of 1,000bhp. Do-it-yourself manual gear changes. Immortal cigarette-lavished liveries. And drivers who were as brazen and fearless on the track as they were charismatic off it. In our opinion, the late-1980s represented peak Formula 1. And this sensational privately owned Ferrari F1-87 – which scored two standout victories for the greatest constructor of them all – perfectly embodies that magic. 1987 Ferrari F1-87 Formula 1 Girardo & Co. Other Cars from Girardo & Co. - 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RS
Of all the limited-production Porsche 911s produced over the past six decades, few are as desirable as those with a direct connection to the marque’s legendary motorsports program. Produced in small numbers to begin with, sometimes only as many units as needed to homologate a given competition model, these race-bred machines were often driven in anger by privateers (or enthusiastic amateurs). Consequently, few have survived to the present unscathed—which makes this 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.0 even more of a prize for the true connoisseur. Designed to homologate the Carrera RSR 3.0, the 1974 911 Carrera RS 3.0 is effectively as close as one could get to a production 911-based racecar while still being road-legal. Though it shared many basic design points with the earlier Carrera RS 2.7, it was enhanced by the presence of wider Fuchs wheels, reinforced chassis and suspension components, ventilated disc brakes borrowed from the 917, and a larger, aluminum-cased 3.0-liter engine upgraded with new cylinder heads and capable of approximately 230 horsepower in street tune. It was also much, much rarer than its predecessor, with a scant 55 911 Carrera RS 3.0 chassis produced in total. A REMARKABLE HISTORY OF CAREFUL STEWARDSHIP The Grand Prix White over Midnight leatherette chassis offered here lived a fascinating, charmed life that spared it from the ravages of motorsport. As noted in John Starkey’s book on the subject, The Racing Porsche: R to RSR, and previously confirmed by then Porsche test driver, Jürgen Barth, this chassis was designated a Vorführwagen (demonstration car) that was used to sell the car’s capabilities to potential buyers. Following the conclusion of its demonstrator duties, the Carrera RS 3.0 was distributed to Sonauto, the Porsche-owned importer for France. On 14 July 1974 the car was exported to the United States by its first owner, Sydney Butler. He had the car flown to JFK International Airport (in the cargo hold of a 747) and then transported to his home in Memphis, Tennessee. After three years of enjoying the RS, Butler offered the car in December 1977. Here, fate took an interesting turn: The car was acquired by Butler’s friend Charles Stoddard, proprietor of Stoddard Imported Cars. This Ohio-based firm was an important early American Porsche dealership, and the business, which still exists today, later evolved into a foundational supplier of vintage Porsche parts. Amazingly, this was not Stoddard’s first encounter with this Carrera RS 3.0. He had been in the passenger seat of the very same chassis just a few years earlier at the model’s 1974 debut in Germany, when he enjoyed a demonstration ride around the Hockenheimring with Jürgen Barth at the wheel! On 19 December, Stoddard officially purchased the car for himself via his own dealership, as reflected by an original Ohio title. At the time, the odometer displayed just 16,423 kilometers. Mr. Stoddard pampered the rare Carrera RS, never exposing it to inclement weather, and fastidiously garaging and maintaining it as needed. After retaining possession for nearly 20 years, he sold the Porsche in November 1996 to Japanese collector Motoi Akaishi, and the car remained in Japan until January 2004, when it was purchased from Akaishi by a respected collector based in Chicago. When re-imported to the United States in March 2004, the 911 still exhibited extreme originality, with the original factory-appointed white paint and gold-highlighted Carrera RS script showing beautifully, while the numbers-matching 3.0-liter engine and transmission remained intact. This owner, just its fourth from new, undertook a few measures to make the car more enjoyable in driving events, including replacing the clutch and rear shock absorbers. In the interest of shoring up the car’s documentation, he contacted Mr. Stoddard and discovered the interesting factory demo history and established its chain of ownership. In January 2012, the owner applied for a FIVA passport, and the powerful RS 3.0 was subsequently driven on the famed Tour Auto Rally, a 2,500-kilometer journey through France. After completing the workout, the 911 was delivered to the Porsche specialists at the Autofarm in England for mechanical freshening. The Carrera RS 3.0 gained its fifth owner from new when it joined the famous White Collection of Porsches in 2017. While in the collection, it benefitted from a careful, preservation-focused maintenance regimen, including the correction of paintwork and the rims to factory specifications. It was also fitted with Pirelli tires, noted on the accompanying Porsche Certificate of Authenticity as being present on initial delivery. Consistent with its overall condition, the car displays just 29,453 kilometers (~18,302 miles) at the time of cataloguing. This history of limited road use (with no period wheel-to-wheel racing in its past), coupled with the presence of its numbers-matching engine and gearbox, make this surely one of the best-preserved Carrera RS 3.0s in existence. By virtue of their scarcity, 1974 911 Carrera RS 3.0 examples do not come to market often, and it is even rarer to find one in such highly original condition with such a well-documented and fascinating history. Sure to be an instant centerpiece of any collection it joins, this one-of-55 homologation special offers its next owner nearly limitless opportunities for exhibition, participation in worldwide rallies and tours, or simple, exhilarating enjoyment on the open road. 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RS RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1980 Ford Capri 3.0 S
The Professionals Capris are offered as a pair and as one Lot in recognition of their cultural significance and historical importance. By the mid-1970s, most of the flamboyant British spy shows had been decommissioned in favour of grittier crime-action dramas filmed on location with live action car chases. The Sweeney’s debut in 1975 set the standard for “real life” action-dramas, pubs replaced casinos, gone were exaggerated karate chops and rep-mobile saloons screeched around grimy street corners. British police departments didn’t issue Aston Martins and few blue-collar sports coupés were affordable or reliable enough to be featured regularly. The producer and screen writer, Brian Clemens, who was behind the definitive British spy series ,The Avengers, back in 1961, had just seen his 1975 re-launch end after two years. Although The New Avengers had live action scenes to rival American imports, audiences failed to connect with the outlandish plots, but did appreciate the cars. The deal with British Leyland to supply the cars for the series was ground-breaking, a marketing masterstroke, but reliability issues caused problems and the continuity department had to deal with replacement cars, often in different colours. Ever the innovator, Brian Clemens could see that audiences were tiring of the “cops and robbers” formula and, with the realities of domestic terrorism a daily threat and foreign atrocities widely reported, The Professionals was launched in 1977 against the backdrop of the Cold War. The two heroes, who were neither police officers or members of the security services, were instructed by the Home Secretary to use any means to deal with crimes of a serious nature. The fictional department, Criminal Intelligence-5 was headed by George Cowley and our heroes, Ray Doyle and William Bodie, were his best operatives. Doyle, an ex-detective constable who worked the seedier parts of London, partnered with Bodie, a former member of the SAS. Their regional accents and high-street style connected with audiences and, for the first time on British TV, there were heroes that were both relatable and inspirational. The conversation in the typing pool (this was 1980) discussed who was the sexiest out of the two and lads in pubs admired the cars and the driving. Having learned the importance of a motor manufacturer as an important partner in supplying the cast with specific, character-oriented cars, Ford of Britain were approached and were happy to supply a Ford Granada for George Cowley and, later in the process, this pair of rather special Ford Capris. Designed to be the Ford Mustang of Europe, the mind boggling array of options meant that the Capri could be whatever you wanted it to be; just like the Mustang. The Capri was in fact a far more varied animal with engines ranging from 1300cc to 3100cc as well as a myriad of trim specifications. The most popular engine was the 1600cc unit, but the object of most desire was the three-litre version, which was available from the 1969 Mk 1 through to 1981 as the 3.0S. Over time, the 3.0 S became synonymous with our action duo and undoubtedly inspired a generation of car enthusiasts whilst coincidentally giving a bit of a boost to Ford's performance car market. We are therefore privileged to offer these fabulously presented cars on behalf of our vendor from his sixteen-year ownership. Most people seem to agree that these two cars should always be garaged together and consequently they are to be offered as a pair and sold as one Lot with an auction estimate of £200,000 to £230,000. 1980 Ford Capri 3.0 S - as driven by Doyle This, Solar Gold 3.0 S was first registered on the 4th June 1980 to the Ford Motor Company, Essex as OAR 576V and loaned to Mark 1 Productions Ltd. for the filming of Series 4. As with the Stratos Silver Capri, Ford stipulated that the car was to wear the false registration plate “OAR 576W” on screen so that the vehicle appeared "new" on the first TV transmission date of Series 4 on 19th October 1980. So when the first episode 'Blackout' went out the "W" suffix had already been released by the DVLA on the 1st August 1980. Ford therefore received free advertising of a 'new' Ford Capri 3.0S on a "W" plate. Production notes and filming schedules confirm the car’s original “V” registration as does the definitive book of the TV series, “The Professionals” by Bob Roca and Julian Vogt. OAR 576V was allocated to Martin Shaw who acted the part of Ray Doyle and the car went on to feature in 10 episodes of the Series: Blackout, It's only a Beautiful Picture, Blood Sports, Hijack, You'll be All Right, Kickback, Discovered in a Graveyard, Foxhole on the Roof, Operation Susie and The Untouchables. It was lightly restored in 2021 by the current owner with meticulous attention to detail and with the focus on originality. The interior is simply fabulous with original Fishnet Recaro seats and even the original parcel shelf is still in place. The original engine and gearbox have been fully reconditioned and the original alloy wheels are shod with period correct Goodyear Grand Prix 185 x 70 x 13 tyres. The speedometer reading, at the time of cataloguing, was 43,222 miles and the car is presented with a detailed history file, receipts, V5C and memorabilia. 1980 Ford Capri 3.0 S Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
