Highlights of this Example One of 59 GTS Porsche Factory Examples Long-Term Single Family Ownership Porsche Updated to 270hp GTS “Club Sport” Specifications After Delivery Preservation Grade Example with Original Purchase Documentation History of the Porsche 924 GTS Unless you’ve been living in a world bereft of motorsports engagement, the Porsche Carrera Turbo will be known to virtually anyone familiar with performance excellence. But Porsche did not limit their prodigious engineering capabilities exclusively to the 911 architecture. Turbocharging technology found its way into several experimental Porsche engineering concepts, eventually arriving in one of the most important volume production Porsches in the history of their development, the 924. Originally conceived as a replacement for the 914, the 924 made its debut in 1975, selling a remarkable 150,000 units before concluding production in 1988. Originally conceived as a partnership with Volkswagen, the changing times and fuel crisis of the early 70s abruptly altered that union, leaving Porsche to produce and market the 924 as an affordable performance car without VW support. For many, the 924 introduced Porsche ownership to a new generation of enthusiasts, combining excellent road manners and reliability in a car that could be readily serviced and easily maintained. The unique styling was also highly celebrated particularly in that it echoed Porsche’s water-cooled halo car; the 928. Though the initial 924 was celebrated for its combination of fuel-economy and reliability, performance officially woke up in 1980 when a KKK Turbocharger was added, making it a true performance car on a par with the Porsche name. Offered for just a few years, the 1980 model Turbo saw US production delivery of just 3,440 units. Rarer still and even more desirable, the Carrera GT was yet another step up in the performance lineage. In the initial GT iteration, 406 factory 924 GTs were produced. The GT model was lightened by 330 pounds, lowered, and fitted with a 210 hp engine. The body was extensively modified to allow for wider 7- and 8-inch Fuchs wheels and tires, wider front and rear track, riveted rear fenders and smoothly flared front fenders. The resultant configuration was both visually impressive and quite capable in the performance arena. Rarer still, the GTS was offered in 1981 distinguished by plastic covered rectangular headlights and a distinct front air intake design. According to expert Roy Smith, as documented in his book, 59 GTS examples were factory built. The GTS engine was reworked to 245 hp and the car further lightened with fiberglass body features and Plexiglas windows. The final and most sought-after iteration was the “Club Sport” GTS. This included a 270 hp engine boasting a larger air-to-air intercooler at 1.1 Bar achieving 60 mph in 5.2 seconds with a 160 mph top speed. A mere 15 GTS Club Sport versions were assembled at the factory. History of this Porsche Carrera GTS This example is one of just 59 Carrera GTS models built. Completed July 3, 1981, it was delivered to the first owner, located in Germany. Shortly after taking delivery, the first owner commissioned Porsche to upgrade this GTS with the highly desirable Porsche factory 270 hp Club Sport engine, installed March 3, 1982. Porsche invoiced service documentation included with the car, dated March 3, 1982, describes the installation of the 270hp Club Sport engine. Further records for service while under original ownership indicate May 4, 1982, with 1,378 kms and May 26, 1982, with 2,057 kms. The father of the current owner purchased this car in October 1984 where it was dispatched via sea shipment out of Stuttgart, Emden, through to port of San Francisco, CA, arriving December 14, 1984. This Porsche has since remained in Northern California under the same family ownership for the past 39 years. At the time of delivery, the odometer indicated 7,479 kilometers (4,647 miles). The father and son single family owners have since retained the car with preservation in mind, with a keen focus on preserving the original exterior features, the interior materials, and the unique body design details that make this GTS such a special part of Porsche history. Numerous original purchase documentation accompanies this rare example currently indicating a mere 8,800 kilometers (5,500 miles). Current Condition and Features of this GTS Today this rare and highly desirable Carrera GTS represents a fantastic opportunity for a preservation minded racing enthusiast to engage in a truly unique performance car. The vivid factory applied red paint is glossy throughout with overall finishes that are reflective of production quality from this era. Metal body surfaces have been digitally metered returning single digit numbers consistent with factory applied paint. There are a few minor areas that show signs of age in the paint finish, all of which are understandable given the historic preservation-based nature of this car. Rubber gaskets, seals, and anodized window trim are all in excellent condition. The handsome 15” staggered width Fuchs and Pirelli tires finish off the purposeful look and stance of the car. The distinctive offset NACA intake turbo hood and unique GTS front bumper and grille, combine with the wide GT body features to deliver an impressive statement, particularly in Guards Red. The glass, plexiglass side windows, body trim, emblems, lenses, and exterior body features are in excellent condition. The overall visual condition of the car is cohesive and impressive, especially considering the unique history, rarity of construction, and the uprated Club Sport 270 hp engine. The black factory configured interior features original materials and components which have been thoughtfully preserved including the dashboard, rare cloth covered racing seats, unique door panels, factory instrumentation, and Autoflug racing seat belts. The lightweight racing seats are in excellent condition showing only minor signs of use to the driver’s side seat. The interior is very much reflective of a preservation level Porsche that has been modestly enjoyed while still retaining a high level of cosmetic excellence. Even the dashboard, often cracked or dulled from excessive sun exposure, is in excellent condition. The rear storage compartment is clean and tidy, displaying the original carpet and correct factory seat belt mounting points. Every interior detail is consistent with factory original construction from the 5-speed manual shifter to the triple gauge center cluster (Bar, Oil temp, Volts) and ventilation controls, all of which remain in excellent preserved condition. Under the hood, the engine and engine compartment are clean, nicely detailed and representative of factory correct condition, proper services, and generally thoughtful care. The engine bay remains remarkably stock with factory components properly in place. The engine finishes are correct as are the largely correct mounting hardware and various hoses, service warning stickers, and filter housings. A Mobil1 oil container has been cleverly and discretely fashioned as a catch can. The undercarriage is as you might expect from an original and unmodified car, showing no signs of structural damage to the floor or support structure and remarkably original, clean surfaces, further confirming the 8,500 kilometers. Because this series car was designed specifically for racing use only, it is offered on bill of sale only and is ineligible for California road use. This car is accompanied by numerous original purchase documents, a spare set of wheels with Proxes racing tires, two additional spare wheels, a space saver spare tire, car cover, tools and tool roll, factory first aid kit, jack and safety triangle, tow hook, a spare set of Porsche crest satin black center caps, a spare set of Plexiglas side windows, a set of Schroth seat belts in boxes, reprinted copies of GT and GTS driver’s manuals, and various other spare parts. The vivid factory applied red paint is glossy throughout with overall finishes that are reflective of production quality from this era. Metal body surfaces have been digitally metered returning single digit numbers consistent with factory applied paint. There are a few minor areas that show signs of age in the paint finish, all of which are understandable given the historic preservation-based nature of this car. Rubber gaskets, seals, and anodized window trim are all in excellent condition. The handsome 15” staggered width Fuchs and Pirelli tires finish off the purposeful look and stance of the car. The distinctive offset NACA intake turbo hood and unique GTS front bumper and grille, combine with the wide GT body features to deliver an impressive statement, particularly in Guards Red. - 1942 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sport
Few automobiles rival the elegance and racing lineage of the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500. The 6C 2500 became one of the most expensive and refined cars of its era, attracting a worldwide celebrity clientele. When it debuted in 1939 as the third series of Vittorio Jano’s legendary six-cylinder Alfa’s, the engineers involved could never have imagined that it would signal the end of the line for hand-built Alfa Romeos. Thanks to engine upgrades and a vastly improved fuel delivery system, the 6C 2500 was the first road going Alfa Romeo capable of 160 km/h. Additionally, it benefited from four-wheel independent suspension, with parallel trailing arms and coil springs in the front and swing axles with torsion bars at the rear. The 6C 2500 was immediately met with praise and success from its hand-selected upscale clientele. Alfa Romeo was, of course, still in the business of providing rolling chassis to custom coachbuilders, even as the onset of war loomed. By order of Mussolini, Carrozzeria Touring had to change its name to ‘Turinga’ during the Second World War, making it one of the rarest Alfa Romeo’s ever. A very small number of Touring’s cars were badged ’Turinga’. Only five 6C 2500 Sport Cabriolets were built, of which we now proudly handled two examples. These cars are amazingly easy to drive with light steering and powerful brakes. The engine offers sufficient punch and the gear change is remarkably easy. Driving is very modern with 120-130 km/h all day long. The Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sport is a masterclass from ‘Stabilimenti Turinga’ and is as pretty as a car can be. The long and elegant front fenders literally illustrates a bridge between Pre-and Post War design. This car is one of 4 cars out of the 5 which were immediately delivered to the German officers in Italy. The responsible Wehrmacht army Kolonel who took delivery was a man named Von Carnap. After the war the car was abandoned by the Germans and the Americans probably took this car with them.. The car’s next known whereabouts are in 1960, in the state of Texas in the hands of a man named Donald Vesley. Mr. Vesley sold the car in 1974, and it passed through the hands of several owners before being acquired by a collector named Paul Myers in 1989. Myers had the car restored in the early 1990s by Phil Reilly & Co., with bodywork performed by Moal Coachworks, both extremely well-regarded shops that consistently prepare show-winning cars of the highest caliber. Indeed, the car did very well when shown, winning the CCCA Senior National First Prize in the Primary Division at the Spring Grand Classic in 1999, Most Elegant Sports Car at Amelia Island in 2005, and Best in Class at the Greenwich Concours in 2008, an impressive feat for a restoration nearly 20 years old. During Myers’ ownership, the car was displayed at “The Candy Store” a sort of clubhouse for local enthusiasts of high caliber collector cars to store and display their cars in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2013 the car was sold to Europe and the owner decided to return the car to original blue. The car received new paintwork at a well known restoration shop and a correct new interior and hood. Mechanically the car was serviced and repaired where necessary. The car was then invited to the exclusive concours in Kyoto Japan. In 2023 the body was superbly repainted to concours standard and prepared by a well known restoration shop in Holland at quite some expense. Today the car is in very nice restored condition and will be a centre piece of any important car collection and a joy to drive. The 348 was a mid-engined, V8 powered two seater replacing the 328 and was the first proper Spider since the Daytona. Featuring a normally aspirated, 3.4 litre version of the quad cam, four valve per cylinder engine with a dry sump oil system. One of only 68 supplied to the UK, this right hand drive spider was delivered to Maranello Concessionaires in March 1994 finished in Blue Chiaro. Reading through the paperwork file there were ten services carried out between 1994 and 2006 including three cambelt replacements. Mileage at that point was less than 25000 miles. Since then, there has been ongoing regular maintenance and the requisite belt work carried out with total mileage now approaching 45000 miles. The car was retrimmed in 2010 and still presents in superb condition throughout. - 1985 Lancia Delta S4 Group B
Lancia’s star may have slowly begun to fade, but the Italian marque maintains a long and rich history of innovation and resourcefulness. It produced some of the most beautiful cars ever made, as well as some of the most technologically extreme. Much like its compatriots at Maranello, the company seemed to be fuelled by passion. Its record as the most successful manufacturer in World Rally Championship history speaks for itself, despite having not entered a factory team since the end of 1993. Without doubt, the most extreme Lancia ever produced was the Delta S4. Lancia’s rally success began with the diminutive Fulvia, before the arrival of the incredible purpose-built Stratos. After Fiat Group’s takeover, the Stratos became increasingly politically sensitive as it was a homologation special that looked more like a Miura than any of Lancia’s products, and in the process of asserting its dominance it killed off the Beta Coupé’s career. For rallying, the Abarth workshop’s Works support shifted to the Fiat 131, with Lancia sent off to successfully become class champions twice in the World Sportscar Championship with the Beta Montecarlo Group V. During this time, though, the Stratos continued to cause political problems by winning international rallies up until the introduction of Group B in 1982. The Rally 037 was developed with the Beta Montecarlo as a loose basis and it was very successful, gaining Lancia another Group B World Championship despite the category being a step-change from Group IV. What became increasingly apparent soon after the 037’s debut was that Audi’s Quattro programme had rung the death-knell for two-wheel-drive rally cars. It was clear that to remain at the top of their game, Lancia engineers would need to go back to the drawing board, which they duly did over the winter of 1982/83 with the SE038. Between Cesare Fiorio, Sergio Limone, and Giorgio Pianta, Lancia had enormous amounts of experience of winning rallies and developing world beaters. Lancia had a history of starting from scratch for new cars, and the SE038 project was very different to the 037. Firstly, the chassis was a tubular spaceframe, with the idea that such a structure could be more easily repaired mid-rally. The engine was all-new with a capacity reduction to 1,759 cc to allow a reduced minimum weight as per Group B regulations. Lancia had tested turbocharging with the 037, but it regarded turbo-lag as a major issue. In order to combat this, Lancia developed an extraordinary supercharger and turbocharger arrangement so that the supercharger reduced turbo-lag low down in the rev-range and the turbocharger took over matters higher up. It was an ingenious concept, and despite the reduction in capacity, the power output increased to a prodigious 480 horsepower. As with the 037, the SE038 used Kevlar composite throughout the car in order to keep weight to a minimum. Additionally, the boxy shape was optimised to develop as much downforce as possible; it wasn’t pretty, but as with the 037, the car had to resemble a production Lancia, and that was the Delta. Eventually, the SE038 was renamed the Delta S4 to make its likeness official, S4 reflecting the supercharged and four-wheel-drive configuration. One area that Lancia knew it had to not only catch up its rival but advance further was the four-wheel-drive system. Lancia engineers knew of the Audi’s limitations, so they realised that they had to master the central differential to gain the grip such a system offered while not hugely compromising handling. The Delta S4’s WRC debut at the 1985 Lombard RAC Rally was a huge success with a 1-2 finish for Toivonen-Wilson and Alén-Kivimäki, although helped in part by the retirement of a familiar Audi Quattro S1 E2. Hopes were high for the S4’s 1986 season, especially with the hugely talented Henri Toivonen and vastly experienced Markku Alén driving for the team; both were potential champions. This Delta S4, chassis 215, was finished in Martini colours for the opening round, the legendary Rallye Monte-Carlo. Henri Toivonen and his new co-driver Sergio Cresto lined up with number “7” and proceeded to utterly decimate the competition with a one minute, 40 second lead over Röhrl’s Audi, until after SS12 when a passing road user lost control and smashed into Toivonen’s S4. For many cars this would have been a rally ending accident—one wheel was lost, the chassis was damaged, and the front clam was destroyed. Some roadside repairs allowed chassis 215 to continue to the next stage. Over five or so successive short service stops, Lancia Corse managed to repair the car. The damage, compounded by a poor tyre choice, dropped Toivonen down to 2nd overall. By SS27 this S4 was looking in better shape, and Toivonen was on the form of his life. He proceeded to win stage after stage—only Röhrl could compete, and by the finish Toivonen was over 4 minutes ahead of Timo Salonen in 2nd. It was an emphatic victory and promised so much for Toivonen’s World Championship hopes; tragically none of this was to be. Following the Rallye Monte-Carlo, chassis 215 was used as a reserve car for Toivonen at the Rallye de Portugal, Alén at the Tour de Corse, and Mikael Ericsson at the Acropolis Rally. After the demise of Group B, chassis 215 was used by Illide Romagna to finish 2nd in the 1988 European Autocross Championship, and in the following year it won the event. Its final public appearance was as the course car for the 1990 Rally Alpi Orientali. Following these sparse appearances, chassis 215 was sold to a Japanese collector. In 2013, this historic Delta S4 was purchased by a British collector who imported it from Japan to the UK. It entered The Gran Turismo Collection in 2019 and has been cared for by BGM Sport ever since. More recently it has made demonstration appearances at events such as the Goodwood Festival of Speed. As the car that Toivonen and Cresto achieved their last great WRC victory with, it serves as a wonderful homage to them. Following the banning of Group B, several Delta S4s were condemned to years of punishing rallycross competition, which naturally compromised their originality. This Works Delta S4, presented in iconic Martini colours, was spared a tough post-factory life, and is now one of the most original survivors. With an extremely important history and well-regarded originality, the opportunity to own a Delta S4 of this calibre will be unrepeated. The 1986 Rallye-Monte Carlo rally is widely regarded as the pinnacle point of the hallowed Group B era and arguably of the WRC. It produced some of the most beautiful cars ever made, as well as some of the most technologically extreme. Much like its compatriots at Maranello, the company seemed to be fuelled by passion. Its record as the most successful manufacturer in World Rally Championship history speaks for itself, despite having not entered a factory team since the end of 1993. Without doubt, the most extreme Lancia ever produced was the Delta S4. Lancia’s rally success began with the diminutive Fulvia, before the arrival of the incredible purpose-built Stratos. After Fiat Group’s takeover, the Stratos became increasingly politically sensitive as it was a homologation special that looked more like a Miura than any of Lancia’s products, and in the process of asserting its dominance it killed off the Beta Coupé’s career. For rallying, the Abarth workshop’s Works support shifted to the Fiat 131, with Lancia sent off to successfully become class champions twice in the World Sportscar Championship with the Beta Montecarlo Group V. During this time, though, the Stratos continued to cause political problems by winning international rallies up until the introduction of Group B in 1982. The Rally 037 was developed with the Beta Montecarlo as a loose basis and it was very successful, gaining Lancia another Group B World Championship despite the category being a step-change from Group IV. What became increasingly apparent soon after the 037’s debut was that Audi’s Quattro programme had rung the death-knell for two-wheel-drive rally cars. It was clear that to remain at the top of their game, Lancia engineers would need to go back to the drawing board, which they duly did over the winter of 1982/83 with the SE038. Between Cesare Fiorio, Sergio Limone, and Giorgio Pianta, Lancia had enormous amounts of experience of winning rallies and developing world beaters. Lancia had a history of starting from scratch for new cars, and the SE038 project was very different to the 037. Firstly, the chassis was a tubular spaceframe, with the idea that such a structure could be more easily repaired mid-rally. The engine was all-new with a capacity reduction to 1,759 cc to allow a reduced minimum weight as per Group B regulations. Lancia had tested turbocharging with the 037, but it regarded turbo-lag as a major issue. In order to combat this, Lancia developed an extraordinary supercharger and turbocharger arrangement so that the supercharger reduced turbo-lag low down in the rev-range and the turbocharger took over matters higher up. It was an ingenious concept, and despite the reduction in capacity, the power output increased to a prodigious 480 horsepower. As with the 037, the SE038 used Kevlar composite throughout the car in order to keep weight to a minimum. Additionally, the boxy shape was optimised to develop as much downforce as possible; it wasn’t pretty, but as with the 037, the car had to resemble a production Lancia, and that was the Delta. Eventually, the SE038 was renamed the Delta S4 to make its likeness official, S4 reflecting the supercharged and four-wheel-drive configuration. One area that Lancia knew it had to not only catch up its rival but advance further was the four-wheel-drive system. Lancia engineers knew of the Audi’s limitations, so they realised that they had to master the central differential to gain the grip such a system offered while not hugely compromising handling. The Delta S4’s WRC debut at the 1985 Lombard RAC Rally was a huge success with a 1-2 finish for Toivonen-Wilson and Alén-Kivimäki, although helped in part by the retirement of a familiar Audi Quattro S1 E2. Hopes were high for the S4’s 1986 season, especially with the hugely talented Henri Toivonen and vastly experienced Markku Alén driving for the team; both were potential champions. This Delta S4, chassis 215, was finished in Martini colours for the opening round, the legendary Rallye Monte-Carlo. Henri Toivonen and his new co-driver Sergio Cresto lined up with number “7” and proceeded to utterly decimate the competition with a one minute, 40 second lead over Röhrl’s Audi, until after SS12 when a passing road user lost control and smashed into Toivonen’s S4. For many cars this would have been a rally ending accident—one wheel was lost, the chassis was damaged, and the front clam was destroyed. Some roadside repairs allowed chassis 215 to continue to the next stage. Over five or so successive short service stops, Lancia Corse managed to repair the car. The damage, compounded by a poor tyre choice, dropped Toivonen down to 2nd overall. By SS27 this S4 was looking in better shape, and Toivonen was on the form of his life. He proceeded to win stage after stage—only Röhrl could compete, and by the finish Toivonen was over 4 minutes ahead of Timo Salonen in 2nd. It was an emphatic victory and promised so much for Toivonen’s World Championship hopes; tragically none of this was to be. Following the Rallye Monte-Carlo, chassis 215 was used as a reserve car for Toivonen at the Rallye de Portugal, Alén at the Tour de Corse, and Mikael Ericsson at the Acropolis Rally. After the demise of Group B, chassis 215 was used by Illide Romagna to finish 2nd in the 1988 European Autocross Championship, and in the following year it won the event. Its final public appearance was as the course car for the 1990 Rally Alpi Orientali. Following these sparse appearances, chassis 215 was sold to a Japanese collector. In 2013, this historic Delta S4 was purchased by a British collector who imported it from Japan to the UK. It entered The Gran Turismo Collection in 2019 and has been cared for by BGM Sport ever since. More recently it has made demonstration appearances at events such as the Goodwood Festival of Speed. As the car that Toivonen and Cresto achieved their last great WRC victory with, it serves as a wonderful homage to them. Following the banning of Group B, several Delta S4s were condemned to years of punishing rallycross competition, which naturally compromised their originality. This Works Delta S4, presented in iconic Martini colours, was spared a tough post-factory life, and is now one of the most original survivors. With an extremely important history and well-regarded originality, the opportunity to own a Delta S4 of this calibre will be unrepeated. The 1986 Rallye-Monte Carlo rally is widely regarded as the pinnacle point of the hallowed Group B era and arguably of the WRC. When Alfa Romeo was acquired by then-rival marque Fiat in the 1980s, bosses knew the brand needed a model to capture the public’s imagination. The result was a car that shocked the world, and one that still resonates after more than 30 years: the Alfa Romeo SZ. A collaboration between Citroën SM stylist Robert Opron and Antonio Castellana at Centro Stile Fiat, the wild styling was put into production by Zagato using innovative design and construction methods. The SZ was nicknamed Il Mostro, or “the Monster”, due in part to its angular thermoplastic injection-moulded composite body panels. But also its potent 207-horsepower 3.0-litre V-6 engine, which delivered drive to the rear wheels. Introduced in 1975, the glamorous 308 GTB, designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti, was the first Ferrari road car with a fiberglass (vetroresina) body. Only 712 such models were built, tipping the scales at a relatively light 2,315 lbs. compared to later versions of the car built with steel panels that added some 330 lbs. The aerodynamic and well-balanced ‘vetroresina’ 308, equipped with a throaty transverse rear-mounted 2,966-cc V-8 and independent suspension, became an attractive choice for Ferrari enthusiasts looking for responsive performance and agile road-handling capabilities. This 1976 308 GTB is a remarkably well-preserved and prime example. Built for the U.S. market, it incorporates the required emissions and safety equipment of the era. Brought into the U.S. by Ferrari distributor Chinetti-Garthwaite Imports, the car had several long-term owners, beginning in January 1977, before being acquired by its current custodian in 2014. Since taking possession of the GTB, the consignor has had it regularly serviced by the Ferrari experts at well-regarded Fast Cars Ltd. of Redondo Beach, California, and, when idle, secured in a climate-controlled facility. The car is Ferrari Classiche certified and has just over 14,000 miles showing on the odometer. The GTB boasts an original and highly prized finish of Ferrari Fly Yellow complemented by an interior with saddle leather seating and black accents. The owner reports the dashboard and console are in fine form, instrumentation is in working order, and fit and finish all around is reflective of an exceptionally well-maintained, low-mileage Ferrari. The GTB rides on Michelin radials mounted on classic Campagnolo alloy wheels. Further, the consignor states that the engine and storage compartments are clean, and the original exhaust system is in sound condition. The factory owner’s manuals, tool kit, jack, and work light are also included. Only 712 such models were built, tipping the scales at a relatively light 2,315 lbs. compared to later versions of the car built with steel panels that added some 330 lbs. The aerodynamic and well-balanced ‘vetroresina’ 308, equipped with a throaty transverse rear-mounted 2,966-cc V-8 and independent suspension, became an attractive choice for Ferrari enthusiasts looking for responsive performance and agile road-handling capabilities. This 1976 308 GTB is a remarkably well-preserved and prime example. Built for the U.S. market, it incorporates the required emissions and safety equipment of the era. Brought into the U.S. by Ferrari distributor Chinetti-Garthwaite Imports, the car had several long-term owners, beginning in January 1977, before being acquired by its current custodian in 2014. Since taking possession of the GTB, the consignor has had it regularly serviced by the Ferrari experts at well-regarded Fast Cars Ltd. of Redondo Beach, California, and, when idle, secured in a climate-controlled facility. The car is Ferrari Classiche certified and has just over 14,000 miles showing on the odometer. Introduced at the 1955 Brussels Motor Show, the Lancia Aurelia B24S Spider America employed a sporting chassis more than 200 millimetres shorter than the standard fourth-series B20 GT on which it was based. According to a Lancia production record on file, chassis number 1086 was completed in June 1955, finished in Grigio paint over an interior trimmed in red leather. An ACI estratto cronologico clarifies that the Aurelia passed through a modest chain of Italian owners until January 1993, when it was purchased by the respected collector, Pier Luigi Chiesa of Biella. More recently sold to the consignor, an enthusiast residing in Italy, the Lancia was entrusted in February 2022 to Stefano Coratelli, a Swiss restoration specialist. The B24S then underwent a thorough refurbishment that included a complete rebuild of the gearbox, brakes, suspension, electrical systems, and ancillary engine components. The engine itself was deemed to have been recently rebuilt, but this work was supplemented with further sympathetic attention, and the entire engine compartment was fastidiously detailed. The coachwork was refinished in the proper original shade of Grigio while the interior was expertly retrimmed in rossa leather. Retaining its matching-numbers engine, this beautifully restored Spider America should encounter a warm welcome at regional concours d’elegance, and it is eligible for numerous vintage driving events, including the Mille Miglia Storica. The soundtrack to any new Ferrari road car in the 1960s was accompanied by the thundering V-12 soundtrack of the fabled Colombo engine. Power and performance became synonymous with the Ferrari brand, but at a cost. The finest Prancing Horse-badged cars of the era—including the 250 GTO, 330 America, 275 GBT/4, among others—were reserved for the lucky few with budgets that could stretch to the cars’ hefty price tag. Enzo Ferrari hatched a plan to build a cheaper sports car in higher volume, more accessible to those with a more modest bank balance—and so the Dino sub-brand was born, named for the company’s late son, Alfredo. The earliest Dino-badged road car was the 206 GT, of which only 151 were made. The berlinetta shared the same race-derived 2.0-litre V-6 engine as the Fiat Dino, with its relatively small and simple engine a decisive factor in minimising production costs. The later 246 GT and GTS models addressed calls from customers who were hungry for an extra edge of signature Ferrari performance. The coupé-shaped 246 GT launched in 1969, followed by the Targa-top Gran Turismo Spider in 1972. Both cars shared a 2.4-litre V-6 “Dino” engine, good for 195 horsepower and with a factory-backed top speed of 235 km/h. While the production run of the Dino 246 GTS peaked at 1,274 units, making it a rare and collectable car today, its build numbers were relatively high by contemporary Ferrari standards. The Dino 246 GTS offered here, chassis 07326, was completed by the factory on 17 October 1973. It left the production line finished in Blu Dino Metallic over a Beige leatherette interior, wearing a set of Cromodora wheels. The Dino was configured in left-hand drive and in European specification for delivery to its home market, with its first owner a resident of Sassuolo, Italy. The first keeper did not keep the car for long, as it was exported to Germany in 1974 before changing hands once again that year, though staying in Germany. In 1982, it was sold to its fourth owner, based in Düsseldorf, when it was noted as being finished in yellow. The next year, the Dino is noted to have been seen at Autoofficina Zanasi & Mescoli, a body shop in Maranello, with front-end damage following an accident. In 1987 the car is known to have been acquired by a Ferrari enthusiast living in Mies, Switzerland, who would retain the Dino until earlier this year. In 2007, the 246 GTS was certified by Ferrari Classiche and the car is accompanied by its "Red Book". At an unknown point prior to its Classiche certification, the Ferrari was refinished in Rosso over a Pelle Nera interior, as it is presented today. According to its accompanying Red Book, the Dino retains its matching-numbers chassis, engine, and gearbox. Enzo Ferrari hatched a plan to build a cheaper sports car in higher volume, more accessible to those with a more modest bank balance—and so the Dino sub-brand was born, named for the company’s late son, Alfredo. The earliest Dino-badged road car was the 206 GT, of which only 151 were made. The berlinetta shared the same race-derived 2.0-litre V-6 engine as the Fiat Dino, with its relatively small and simple engine a decisive factor in minimising production costs. The later 246 GT and GTS models addressed calls from customers who were hungry for an extra edge of signature Ferrari performance. The coupé-shaped 246 GT launched in 1969, followed by the Targa-top Gran Turismo Spider in 1972. Both cars shared a 2.4-litre V-6 “Dino” engine, good for 195 horsepower and with a factory-backed top speed of 235 km/h. While the production run of the Dino 246 GTS peaked at 1,274 units, making it a rare and collectable car today, its build numbers were relatively high by contemporary Ferrari standards. The Dino 246 GTS offered here, chassis 07326, was completed by the factory on 17 October 1973. It left the production line finished in Blu Dino Metallic over a Beige leatherette interior, wearing a set of Cromodora wheels. The Dino was configured in left-hand drive and in European specification for delivery to its home market, with its first owner a resident of Sassuolo, Italy. The first keeper did not keep the car for long, as it was exported to Germany in 1974 before changing hands once again that year, though staying in Germany. In 1982, it was sold to its fourth owner, based in Düsseldorf, when it was noted as being finished in yellow. The next year, the Dino is noted to have been seen at Autoofficina Zanasi & Mescoli, a body shop in Maranello, with front-end damage following an accident. In 1987 the car is known to have been acquired by a Ferrari enthusiast living in Mies, Switzerland, who would retain the Dino until earlier this year. In 2007, the 246 GTS was certified by Ferrari Classiche and the car is accompanied by its "Red Book". At an unknown point prior to its Classiche certification, the Ferrari was refinished in Rosso over a Pelle Nera interior, as it is presented today. According to its accompanying Red Book, the Dino retains its matching-numbers chassis, engine, and gearbox. With its timeless styling, formidable performance, and illustrious lineage stretching back to the glorious V-6-engined grand prix and sports cars of the 1950s and 1960s, there can be few Ferraris as emotionally charged as the Dino 246 GTS.
