    1968 JAGUAR E-TYPE «FIXED HEAD COUPÉ» 4.2 (SERIES II) IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. FULLY RESTORED A FEW YEARS AGO, IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. THE E-TYPE WAS PRESENTED ON MARCH 15, 1961, USING AS A BASE THE D-TYPE THAT HAD ALREADY WON 3 CONSECUTIVE TIMES AT 24H LE MANS, IT WAS VERY INNOVATIVE IN ITS DESIGN AND PRESENTED INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCES FOR THE TIME. IN 1961 ENZO FERRARI SAID THAT THE E-TYPE WAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CAR EVER MADE AND IS NOW CONSIDERED BY MANY TO BE THE MOST ICONIC CLASSIC OF THE 60S.     Ferrari's 201 mph F40 is the definitive supercar and has a formidable reputation alongside the 250 GTO as possibly the best road Ferrari built to date. With the F40, Pininfarina produced an era-defining creation, one that even today is instantly recognisable by old and young enthusiasts alike. F40's were closely derived from the experimental GTO Evoluzione and the road-going 288 GTO (that the F40 replaced). The design features a tubular steel chassis with bonded composite inserts, most notably around the sills and floor pan, The 2,936 cc motor produces approximately 500 bhp at 7,000 rpm with the help of two water-cooled IHI turbochargers running 1.1 bar of boost. At 1,202 kg, the F40 had, and still has, a phenomenal power-to-weight ratio. Shatteringly fast by any comparison (especially for 1988), the F40 can sprint from 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds and hit 201 mph flat out making it the first production car to surpass this mystical boundary. Completed at the factory in January 1989, this example is one of the 7-series chassis cars completed that benefit from a number of key differences removed over the span of production. Naturally as a 7-series production example, this early F40 is both non-cat and non-adjust, which are considered to be the more pure, more raw variant of the esteemed model. Corroborating with the very early build date are several characteristics which are indicative of an early ‘non-cat, non-adjust’ car. These include the bare aluminium intercoolers, and the different construction and finishing of carbon Kevlar components such as the more rudimentary surface undeath the front clam, which draws the eyes to the unique way in which the NACA ducts are affixed to its underside; a true reflection of how these early cars were built to be as minimal, basic and as lightweight as possible. Under the front clam, the front brake cooling ducts and their flanges are also visible, and the manner they join to the clam is again different to later cars. The front wheel well is of the split, two-piece design, seen only on a handful of the earliest examples. Similarly, this example features non-adjustable suspension, introduced as an option on the later produced cars. The interior also sees alternative soft fabric seats witnessed previously on other early examples by DK. The 74th example completed, this example was completed at the factory on 27th January 1989, already having been earmarked by Ferrari themselves for the upcoming Geneva International Motorshow. The F40 was delivered ahead of this to official importer IFS Ferrari Suisse SA in February. As corroborated by noted Ferrari historian Marcel Massini, this example then sat alongside Ferrari’s latest and greatest offering, the brand new Mondial T at the 59th Geneva Motorshow in March 1989. 9th December 1988 Factory build start date 27th January 1989 Factory completion date February 1989 Delivered new to official importer IFS Ferrari Suisse SA 9th March 1989 Displayed on the Ferrari stand during the 59th Geneva International Motor Show, upgraded to sliding windows for the show 9th May 1990 Road registered in the name of Graber Automobile of Wichtrach With the Pirelli P-Zero having been developed as the first road-going bespoke compound tyre for the F40, it was this option-tyre that was selected for its presence at Geneva. The P-Zero name had been introduced five years earlier with the Delta S4, but as a semi-slick on a homologation production run. P-Zeros at the time had a slightly different sidewall to those available today. It is worth noting that the car recieved sliding windows for the show, to be returned to specification as per the original build sheets after the show. It would not receive road registration until the 9th of May 1990 with its warranty booklet issued in the name of Graber Automobile of Wichtrach. The car was sold the following year to close friend of Graber Automobile, Fridolin Broder of Liechtenstein who was for a short period, the official importer into the country. Its next owner, Mr Höflinghoff-Hess of Germany retained the car for a number of years, eventually advertising the car in German-magazine Auto, Motor & Sport in July of 1998 with just 875 kms. The F40 was snapped up by Bernhard Dransmann of Osnabrück later the same month and he would retain the car for just over two years. Dransmann would sell the car to its most recent custodian in September of 2000. Over the past 25 years, this F40 has been cared for by just one custodian. Today this example has covered just 12,500 kilometres. All of the early details which set this car apart remain true today, including the original soft-fabric seats (although an additional retrimmed set will be supplied), bare aluminium intercoolers, split wheel well, unpainted lower sills and largely exposed engine bay weave. This remarkable F40 today presents superbly at our showrooms outside London. With yellow in-filled tyres as a modern nod to how it was presented at the Geneva Motor Show just shy of 36 years ago, this F40 would be a standout addition to any collection. The replacement of the internal headlamp torque by grilles allows, on the left to cool the exhaust manifold, on the right to increase the air flow to the carburettors. From the Alps to Sicily, these cars perform well in Trieste-Opicina, CesanaSestrières and Catania-Etna. More powerful than the Giulietta, much more agile than the 2600 6-cylinder, which indirectly took over from the 1900, the Giulia is designed to seduce with its original and aerodynamic design well ahead of a competition that, at best, is inspired by the Americans, like Fiat and its 1300/1500. On April 24, 1963, Alfa Romeo added spice to its recipe by unveiling the Ti Super on the Monza racetrack.     The Lancia Appia Zagato is a one-off car produced since 1956, with the parent Appia “cammello,” which got its name from the various humps on the roof and hoods, typical of Zagato. Later, production continued with the various GTs, which unlike the first one built, had only two humps on the roof and two fins on the rear fenders. The mechanics were the same as the standard Lancia Appia, but had a more powerful engine. The GTs, or long wheelbase cars, were built until December 1958, later making way for the GTE. During their production, however, three prototypes were in turn bodied, specifically chassis 1875,2130 and 2131. They were different from the other cars in the same series. Aesthetically they had a very similar front to an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce Zagato, while the rear was the same of the following Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ round tail. Given the race usage of the car, the interior was typical Zagato but the only one with double slits (seat and back). The windows except for the windshield were all lexan. Noticeable is the absence of the heater, the Nardi steering wheel and the oversized fuel tank. After all these peculiarities it can be deduced that these were three prototypes set up just for racing. This Lancia Appia GT Zagato is the first of the three prototypes built and the only one that survived, that is the 1875 chassis. It was built in April 1958 and the first owner was Elio Zagato himself and this was his personal car. This was unusual, since usually, the cars “Bred” raced with were all registered to Carrozzeria La Zagato. He used it to run a few races and then sold it the following year. The car passed through various hands, such as Francesco Prioglio and Edoardo Doratti, also drivers and both from Trieste. Later, production continued with the various GTs, which unlike the first one built, had only two humps on the roof and two fins on the rear fenders. The mechanics were the same as the standard Lancia Appia, but had a more powerful engine. The GTs, or long wheelbase cars, were built until December 1958, later making way for the GTE. During their production, however, three prototypes were in turn bodied, specifically chassis 1875,2130 and 2131. They were different from the other cars in the same series. Aesthetically they had a very similar front to an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce Zagato, while the rear was the same of the following Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ round tail. Given the race usage of the car, the interior was typical Zagato but the only one with double slits (seat and back). The windows except for the windshield were all lexan. Noticeable is the absence of the heater, the Nardi steering wheel and the oversized fuel tank. After all these peculiarities it can be deduced that these were three prototypes set up just for racing. This Lancia Appia GT Zagato is the first of the three prototypes built and the only one that survived, that is the 1875 chassis. It was built in April 1958 and the first owner was Elio Zagato himself and this was his personal car. This was unusual, since usually, the cars “Bred” raced with were all registered to Carrozzeria La Zagato. He used it to run a few races and then sold it the following year. The car passed through various hands, such as Francesco Prioglio and Edoardo Doratti, also drivers and both from Trieste.     This particular example, Chassis # 2760847, is an early 1972 BMW 2002 tii, finished in Colorado orange over a black interior featuring the optional “Skai upholstery”. It was purchased through Otto’s Imported Cars in Eddystone, PA, with other options including XAS tires, reclining seats, anti-freeze, and a Hirschman Antenna. All of these brought the car’s final price to $4,450.45, up from the original $4,286 MSRP. The 2002’s first owner, a Mr. Rhodes Vessels, enjoyed the car until sometime in 1982 and frequently took it back to Otto’s Imported Cars for servicing and routine maintenance. Mr. George Whiteman, the second owner, and also a PA resident, continued caring for the car as Mr. Vessels had, frequently taking it to various shops and mechanics to keep it on the road. The service records under Mr. Whiteman stop sometime in 1986, and start again in 1990 under a Mr. Lee Perry. It is unclear when Mr. Perry parted with the BMW, but the service records on file resume in 2000 under Paula and Josh Humphries and continue until 2004. Which brings us to the most recent owner, from whom we acquired the car. They purchased it from the fourth owner in 2006 and drove it briefly before placing it in storage, where it has remained ever since with the intent to complete a total restoration. As it sits, the car is an ideal restoration candidate given the spec and completeness of its history. Remarkably complete and with a wealth of historical documents to establish its provenance this tii variant of the 2002 is the one worthy of a proper restoration. It was purchased through Otto’s Imported Cars in Eddystone, PA, with other options including XAS tires, reclining seats, anti-freeze, and a Hirschman Antenna. All of these brought the car’s final price to $4,450.45, up from the original $4,286 MSRP. The 2002’s first owner, a Mr. Rhodes Vessels, enjoyed the car until sometime in 1982 and frequently took it back to Otto’s Imported Cars for servicing and routine maintenance. Mr. George Whiteman, the second owner, and also a PA resident, continued caring for the car as Mr. Vessels had, frequently taking it to various shops and mechanics to keep it on the road.     This rare and early Daytona Spyder is the 33rd Scaglietti Spyder produced. Experts at the Ferrari Owners Club have suggested this is the first US version factory built Spyder constructed and given the December 1971 manufacturing date and timing for the first owner’s purchase, this is very likely accurate. According to the Ferrari Warranty Card accompanying this car, this Spyder was originally delivered to Dr. Baldhard Falk, Tiburon, CA on March 2, 1972, subsequently titled as a 1972 model year car. In April 1970, Dr. Falk visited Ferrari and had grown familiar with the company and their cars. Prior to his purchase of this Daytona Spyder, he had owned a Ferrari 330GTS, but experienced difficulties with the performance. Armed with legal representation, the good doctor approached Ferrari with a resolution. They agreed to apply the prior equity of the 330 towards the purchase of a new Daytona Spyder. At the time of his visit, Dr. Falk was offered the prototype Spyder that was just finishing construction; however, he elected to not purchase it as the prototypical construction was not deemed appropriate for track days with local owners, something that Dr. Falk had intended to do. A copy of the invoice from the selling dealer Modern Classic Motors, Reno, NV indicates the car was delivered to Dr. Falk in Giallo Dino with Beige upholstery, just as he had requested, however some interior color and convertible top material details were not correct which were corrected for Falk by Ferrari. Additionally, Falk found that the paint was not up to his discerning standards and thus it was resprayed. After the items were corrected to his satisfaction, Dr. Falk exercised the car in a handful of Ferrari Owners Club events including Virginia City Hill Climbs, Sears Point Raceway, and at Laguna Seca in 1978. It was this last event where the car lost a rear right wheel causing cosmetic body damage to the rear inner wheel arch, rear fender area, and windshield post. Comforted by the fact that the damage was not serious, Dr. Falk elected to halt further event participation, turning his attention instead to restoring the car to a high standard, efforts of which were confined primarily to the body, paint, and interior features. Copies of service invoices include a 1979 invoice for door seals, speedo cable, trunk seal, new windshield molding, and other trim parts as part of the sourcing for the restoration. This invoice is consistent with a 1979 Crevier Imports, Anaheim, CA invoice for additional mechanical work and an invoice for body and paint work performed by Bill de Carr also in 1979 refinishing the car in red ($11,000.00 – quite the sum in 1979). A letter from Dr. Falk, addressed to the second owner, included with the car explains that the restoration was done retaining all the original body panels and original factory trim, and great care was performed to preserve the factory metal. The restoration continued with new exhaust, upholstery work, chrome plating, detailing the engine compartment, and a new German cloth sport top installed as well that same year. In 1982, Dr. Falk purchased a set of new Borrani wire wheels which were mounted on the car. Thoughtfully the original wheels were retained. By the mid 1980s, Falk continued his ownership with regular service to the restored Spyder including oil changes, gas tank repair, new upper and lower front ball joints, and stabilizer bushings and continued efforts refining mechanical details. In 1988, Dr. Falk was invited to display the car at the Emilia-Romagna Concours d’Elegance, San Francisco, CA where it won a commemorative medal. In 1990 the car was offered for sale by Falk. At that time, the car reportedly indicated 31,000 miles. Still remaining under Falk’s ownership, in 1995 with 31,643 miles indicated, a new set of front springs were installed at Ferrari of San Francisco with subsequent mechanical work performed through the year 2000. In 2003, Mohr Imports received the car from Falk where it was extensively serviced and prepared for sale. Under Mohr’s care, the brake calipers were rebuilt, cam cover gaskets replaced, hoses replaced, a new heater valve diaphragm installed, and a very complete and correct interior including correct mousehair was supplied by Luppi, Modena and installed in the car. Additional mechanical services while with Mohr included other mechanical services as noted in the service receipts included with the car. The next owner purchased the car in 2004 from Mohr Imports, becoming the second owner of record. After purchasing this car from the original owner, the second owner retained this Daytona Spyder for 20 years. Under his ownership, the car was regularly serviced by Ferrari specialists in the Chicago, IL area including regular fluids, brakes, and overall maintenance, as well as bench rebuilding for all six carburetors (2017). Services in July 2023 included an oil and filter change, cooling system flush, new thermostat, new upper radiator hose, new radiator cap, brake fluid flush, new fuel filter, new tie rod, new speedometer cable, and four new Michelin XWX 215/70 VR15 radial tires. In 2023, the car was consigned to Fantasy Junction and, in preparation for sale, work was performed in September and October 2023 by Patrick Ottis including reconditioning the suspension, rebuilding the Koni shocks, rebuilding the water pump and replacement of the oil seal and gaskets, and repair work to the smog pump. The current owner purchased this car in 2024, repainted it in period correct black, installed a new top, and detailed the car to a high standard. The current owner, a vintage performance car collector and enthusiast has properly maintained the car under his ownership including a mirror finish black respray. The finish is high gloss, smooth, and reflects the quality of the original body panels. The exterior detailing throughout the car is exceptional. The various exterior trim and emblems are beautifully finished, including crisp body line detail, nicely finished door jambs, excellent glass, detailed inner jambs and underside hood/trunk surfaces. Chrome and polished metal finishes are also in excellent condition. All openings function as expected with tight closures and excellent panel gaps to the doors, hood, and trunk. All four Borrani center hub wire wheels are polished and fitted with correctly sized Michelin XWX 215/70 VR15 tires. The interior is in exceptionally fine condition. Having been comprehensively reupholstered in 2003 using experts Luppi, Modena, Italy, all interior leather, carpet, console, door panels, and dash pad mousehair were hand cut and stitched using high quality tan leather, correct carpet, leather covered center console, tan door panels, and the correct fine finish mousehair for the dash pad. The Daytona seats, now famous for the black perforated banding, are correctly finished. The stitching and bolster structure are both excellent and deliver a striking visual presence to the elegant tan leather interior. The mousehair dashboard is in like new condition, accented by beautiful instruments, aluminum trim, preserved factory correct switches, and a three spoke steering wheel with central Ferrari logo. The factory air conditioning controls are correct though the air conditioning is currently not blowing cold. The tan leather console and door panels are taut, showing excellent fit, crisp corners, and beautiful stitching. The convertible top is essentially new, having been installed under current ownership. The correct low pile wool carpet is also in excellent condition, creating a handsome contrast to the darker material accents.
