- 1984 Roush Protofab Mustang Trans Am
Ford hired Jack Roush to build and enter a Mercury Capri in the SCCA Trans-Am Championship before the 1984 racing season. Roush, who is a specialist in engines, enlisted the assistance of the specialized business Protofab to build the custom chassis. Charlie Selix founded Protofab, which hired engineers Bob Riley and Gary Pratt to develop the chassis. The Trans-Am cars of the 1980s only vaguely resembled the road cars they were built on; they were very much a silhouette formula. The Protofab built Roush Capri had a steel tubular frame and fiberglass body. Roush concentrated his efforts on the Ford V8 with high-performance natural aspiration. The engine was capable of producing at least 650 horsepower and as much as 800 horsepower later, despite only having one carburettor. In 1985, Willy T. Ribbs raced chassis 008 in the Trans-Am series as a Mercury Capri. More prize money was won by him in one season than by any other Trans-Am racer with eight victories. In 1986, Scott Pruett drove chassis 008, now rebodied as a Mustang with Motorcraft sponsorship to win the IMSA GTO championship. Restored by Chris Liebenberg to its championship spec and livery, the Mustang made its way to the west coast where it was sold to Phil Gallant, then to Zak Brown. The vehicle has made multiple appearances at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Chassis 008 — Race Results 1985 Trans-Am Season — Willy T. Ribbs April 21st. Firebird International Raceway. - 1st. - Maserati A6GCS – Monofaro
The Maserati A6GCS is the last true Maserati. In 1947 the Maserati brothers Ernesto, Bindo and Ettore, now released from their contract with the Orsi family packed up their tools and left to form OSCA with their sights set on building lightweight, fast racing cars. Before they left however, they had time for one last masterpiece, the Maserati A6GCS Series I. Designed in conjunction with lead technical engineer Alberto Massimo, the car was officially called the 2000 Sport after the powerful 1978cc straight-6 under the bonnet. Styled by Medando Fantuzzi, the Monofaro or single headlight was initially designed to have a coupé body but the Maserati brothers, forever focussed on weight saving instructed Fantuzzi to design a lighter “Siluro” or torpedo body featuring cycle-wing fenders to protect the open wheels during racing. The Maserati brothers, perhaps aware this was the last car they would design for the company that bore their name, paid particular attention to the development of the Monofaro. The car was a mechanical masterpiece featuring double wishbone suspension across a low-slung tubular frame chassis with the engine mounted to a 4-speed gearbox. The resulting car was a force to be reckoned with, taking the fight to the more powerful Ferraris also racing at the time. The Monofaro raced predominantly in Formula 2 races where the greats such as Alberto Ascari, Stirling Moss and Tazio Nuvolari battled week in, week out at race meetings all over Europe. The first Monofaromade its debut in 1947 at a Modena sports car race where Ascari and Luigi Villoresi came first and second. In 1948 Maserati Monofaro chassis number 2007 left the Modena factory gates and began its racing career as a works factory car. The car competed on behalf of the Maserati team in European races before being renumbered by the factory in 1949 to chassis 2010 as was a fairly regular occurrence in period. However, by this time the factory had begun development of the A6GCS Series 2 and so sold the car to an Italian businessman named Giuseppe Vianini. Before WWII Giuseppe Vianini had established a successful business in Argentina as a motorcycle dealer and through his business became involved with AC Argentina Equipe who sponsored promising Argentinian racing drivers to come to Europe. One such driver they sponsored was Juan Manuel Fangio who had proven himself on dirt and gravel long-distance races across South America. These races were far removed from the Grand Prix races held in Europe which were considered the pinnacle of competition racing and so in 1947 Fangio moved to Europe to continue his racing career. Having seen Fangio race in South America Guiseppe Vianini was eager to get the young Argentinian into his Monofaro and began leveraging his contacts with AC Equipe Europe to get Fangio into his Monofaro. For the 1949 Rome Formula 2 race Fangio lined up in chassis 2010 against the dominant Ferrari 166Cs. In reality the Ferraris were always going to win with double the cylinder count but the Maseratis of Fangio and Benedicto Campos provided the only credible opposition. For the 1952 season Vianini, eager to get involved with the South American Maserati dealer network imported the A6GCS to Argentina where he sold the car to Carlos Lostaló. Lostaló continued to race chassis 2010 in the local races around Buenos Aires. At some point in the early ‘50s Lostaló removed the engine and gearbox from “2010” and fitted a Ford V8 engine and continued to race the car throughout the 1950s. The original engine and gearbox went into storage. The car we offer here is a hand-crafted Maserati A6GCS Monofarofeaturing a Siluro body fitted with the original engine and gearbox from chassis 2010, the car driven by 5-time Formula One World champion Juan Manuel Fangio. The engine and gearbox lay in storage for a considerable length of time before being acquired by the car’s current owner who himself stored the drivetrain until recently deciding to commission a replica chassis and body around the original engine. Since arriving in the UK the car has been prepared by expert historic racing specialists and is now ready to be enjoyed either on the race track or on the road. The car is clearly an important piece of motorsport history and represents a rare opportunity not only to own a car once driven by El Maestro but also to experience the masterpiece that is the last true Maserati. - 1971 Porsche 911T
Light Yellow Over Black, 5-Speed Manual With 911S “Appearance Group”, Front Fog Lights, Sport Seats, In Possession of Original Owner for Nearly 40 Years. It makes sense why so many enthusiasts deem the Porsche 911 the ultimate classic car. Thanks to its unique and exciting driving dynamics, outstanding build quality, and legendary reliability, classic 911 ownership sidesteps many of the pitfalls usually associated with having an old car in your garage. With nearly 60 years of continuous production, selecting the proper classic 911 can be daunting- but without a doubt, one of the most sought-after generations is the long wheelbase, short bumper cars built between 1969 and 1973. Although the earlier short-wheelbase cars are known for their lively handling and revvy small displacement motors, the long-wheelbase cars are far more refined and much better all-around vehicles. In 1971, the 911 was offered in 3 trim lines, the carburated “T”, the fuel-injected “E”, and the highest-performing “S”- all of which were powered by a stout 2.2-liter air-cooled flat 6. This Porsche 911T was produced in February 1971 and is finished in its original color of Light Yellow and presents in very solid driver condition. The car shows well thanks to a respray in the original color as well as a host of other reconditioning jobs but has never been completely restored. Sold new at Art Bunker Audi/Porsche in Overland Park, Kansas, the car remained under the care of the original owner until 2009. Thanks to this fastidious owner, the car still retains its original service booklet, delivery invoice, and a partially complete original tool roll. On the exterior, this car displays a few unique features that separate it from other 911Ts- the first of which are the factory optional dual fog lights in front. A pair of round lights affixed to the front grilles give an almost rally car look to this 911 and are a relatively uncommon option from the era. Additionally, a set of Mahle “Gas Burner” wheels were specified on this example as opposed to the Fuchs 5-spokes you typically see. The “Appearance Group” option upgrades the exterior with a number of upgrades that were otherwise reserved for the 911S- gold rear badging, extended rocker panels and elegantly integrated rubber moldings over the chrome bumpers, all help to tie the car together. Like the exterior of the car, the interior is largely original- finished in black with a great set of black and yellow Coco Mats on the floor. The original “Comfort” style seats have been replaced by a beautiful set of the more heavily bolstered sport seats of the era which provide much better support in the twisties and just look great in the cabin. One feature that truly sets this car apart from almost any other 911 of the era is that not only does it have factory air conditioning, but it actually blows cold. Anybody who has driven a 911 of this era with factory A/C can tell you that even when in good order, calling the air coming out of the vents “cool” is an overstatement- but this car does truly deliver in the cold air department, making it a fantastic car for touring or road rallies. The 2.2-liter flat-6 is the original unit for this car but has been treated to a number of upgrades over the years to both improve reliability and the driving experience. In the 1990s, the motor was treated to a full rebuild that benefited from the addition of later Carrera timing chain tensioners, as well as a set of higher compression 911S pistons. The Zenith 3-choke carburetors were replaced by a set of Webers and the always-important SSI heat exchangers were installed. In 1971, the standard gearbox on a US market 911T was a 4-speed but a 5-speed like that found in the 911E and 911S was an option. This example came from the factory with that desirable 5-speed which was also overhauled while the engine was out and still shifts smoothly today. The car runs and drives very nicely- the front end isn’t quite as tight as you would find on a fully set up car, but replacing some bushings would likely do the car many favors. Overall, this is a really wonderful 911 to drive that provides smooth power throughout the rev range. This 911T can be summed up by simply saying it is a fantastic driver’s car and the perfect companion for road trips, rallies, or touring. With much of the major mechanical reconditioning already completed, this car is ready to get in and enjoy. When that is combined with such long-term single ownership and much of the original documentation, this 911T is a truly unique example. 1971 Porsche 911T ISSIMI, Inc If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1968 Fiat Dino 2000 1
First registration 02.1968 Swiss delivery Swiss road registration with veteran entry This beautiful Fiat Dino 2000 Coupé was delivered in Switzerland and is veteran-approved. It has always been well maintained and serviced regularly. Recently the carburetor and the water pump were revised. Many documents like original manuals, spare parts catalogs and invoices are present. The car is in very nice and top maintained condition. The Fiat Dino is a sports car that was introduced in the spring of 1966 by Fiat on the occasion of the one hundredth birthday of the company founder Giovanni Agnelli. First appeared the convertible called Spider, which was followed in the spring of 1967 by the coupe, designed by Bertone. Dino is short for Alfredino and was the nickname of Enzo Ferrari’s son. Legend has it that Alfredo Ferrari, on his deathbed in 1956, whispered the data for the V6 engine into the ear of Vittorio Jano, a proven and experienced racing engine designer employed by Ferrari. Jano is then said to have designed this engine according to Alfredino’s specifications. The Dino engine was used in Formula 2 and also in other competitions. For homologation, production of at least 500 units was required. Since Ferrari was not in a position to produce such a number, Fiat took over this task. Incidentally, Fiat then also supplied the engines to Ferrari for the Dino 206 and Dino 246 GT. 1968 Fiat Dino 2000 Lutziger Classic Cars AG If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1991 Jaguar XJR-15
Having announced the car in November 1990, shortly after Jaguar's Le Mans win, it was during 1991 that legendary Le Mans-winning TWR team owner Tom Walkinshaw commenced manufacture of the strictly limited edition batch of 50 of staggeringly fast and beautiful carbon-chassis XJR-15 Supercars, originally codenamed 'R-9R'. Although very much derived from the XJR-9 and XJR-12 Le Mans winners and neatly filling the hole left by the removal of the V12 engine from the XJ220 concept, the XJR-15 was completely re-engineered for road use and featured bodywork penned by the great Peter Stevens, who's portfolio also includes the McLaren F1. The XJR-15's combination was unlike anything seen at the time - full carbon-fibre chassis, carbon body, near Group C-spec 6-litre V12 - truly the closest thing to a Le Mans prototype created during that generation of Supercar. You could argue it was the first time since the likes of the Jaguar XKSS and Ford GT40 that such an outrageous 'road car' with racing lineage was created. Chassis number ‘047’ was one of 16 racing-specification XJR-15s built for the 1991 Intercontinental Challenge, a three-race series supporting Formula 1 Grands Prix, each of which commanded a huge purse of $1 million. 047 was driven in the series by Le Mans-podium finisher and ex-F1 driver Tiff Needell in all three rounds - Monaco, Silverstone, and Spa-Francorchamps. What is great about 047 is that it has remained a race car from new until today, never being modified for the road, and never being stripped of its pure-racing features. There are only 8 examples that have remined in this form from new, and its history is well-known and unquestioned. In a world where rarity means so much, having one of the original race-spec XJR-15s fully road registered is surely the ultimate Jaguar of its generation. A true celebration of Jaguar and TWR's magnificent two V12 Le Mans wins in 1988 and 1990, the XJR-15 offers so much - incredible rarity, mind-blowing performance, an unforgettable engine note, and the opportunity to drive a race car on the road. Fearsome, maybe, but so is a McLaren F1 at speed... in a world of computerized cars built to perfection, and assisted by endless gadgetry, the XJR-15 is an experience so intoxicating that time and the world simply pass by... and that's probably a good thing! The car has lived in one of Europe's finest race car collections in recent years and has been maintained regardless of cost. 1991 Jaguar XJR-15 Duncan Hamilton Rofgo Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. Thanks to state support, Alfa Romeo had the opportunity (but also the challenge) to build the best cars in the world in the 1920s and 1930s. Despite the destruction of the factory buildings in the First World War, the company was able to live up to this reputation with the 6C 2500 models. Exceptionally gifted coachbuilders created some of the most beautiful but also most expensive cars of the era on Alfa‘s “rolling chassis”. The list of celebrities who adorned themselves with an Alfa 6C 2500 is long. The chassis of this 6C 2500 was delivered by Alfa Romeo to Pininfarina in Italy in 1948. It was exported to the USA about one year later as one of only 68 Short Chassis Cabriolets built. In the 1980s the vehicle came back to Europe. It was restored in France in the early 2000s, and then again extensively rebuilt between 2012 and 2014. Technically as well as optically the vehicle is outstanding, and the colour „grigio“ already suited Rita Hayworth perfectly when she drove her 6C 2500 SS PininFarina Cabriolet to her wedding with Prince Ali Kahn in May 1949! 6-cylinder inline DOHC engine, 3 carburetors, 2.443 ccm, approx. 105 hp (factory specifications) 4-speed gearbox, wire spoke wheels Other Cars from Thiesen Hamburg GmbH 1960-Mercedes-Benz-190-S-01.webp 1960-Mercedes-Benz-190-S-02.webp 1960-Mercedes-Benz-190-S-20.webp 1960-Mercedes-Benz-190-S-01.webp 1/20 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL Thiesen Hamburg GmbH Germany 1959-Mercedes-Benz-300-SL-01.jpg 1959-Mercedes-Benz-300-SL-02.jpg 1959-Mercedes-Benz-300-SL-15.webp 1959-Mercedes-Benz-300-SL-01.jpg 1/15 1959 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Thiesen Hamburg GmbH Germany 1961-Maserati-3500-GT-Touring-01.webp 1961-Maserati-3500-GT-Touring-02.webp 1961-Maserati-3500-GT-Touring-20.webp 1961-Maserati-3500-GT-Touring-01.webp 1/20 1961 Maserati 3500 GT Touring Thiesen Hamburg GmbH Geramny Last Featured Cars
- 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing
In many senses, while the Lamborghini Miura was the first automobile to be referred to by name as a “supercar,” the actual title of “first supercar” status belongs to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. Like the Ferrari F40 and its like, it captured the aura of being exactly what it was: racing car technology, loosely disguised for the street. Its specifications in 1954 were as advanced then as the carbon fiber exoskeletons of today. Power came from an overhead-cam six-cylinder engine, mounted at an angle within the engine compartment and equipped with Boch mechanical fuel injection and dry-sump lubrication. It was wrapped in steel and alloy bodywork, designed for maximum streamlined efficiency, and wrapped around a tubular frame. The latter necessitated the car’s most distinguishing feature, doors hinged at the roof, which when opened created the famed “gullwing” appearance. Every trip in a 300 SL would be a unique experience, including that of getting into the car: mastering the art of first straddling the door sill, swinging one’s right hip in, and then drawing in the rest of the body and pulling down the door. Once fitted, a 300 SL suits its owner like a tailored tuxedo; the steering wheel is at an optimal position even for stockier drivers, and the gearshift falls, as they say, readily at hand. It is sleek, cozy, and evocative today. In the world of the 1950s, it was a spaceship. Automotive press of the time agreed. “For a passenger who has not traveled in the 300 SL before, the effect is electrifying,” noted Autocar. “The occupant receives at first a mild pressing back into the seat and then, as the power comes in between 3,500 rpm and 4,000 rpm, he feels as though he is being rocketed through space. Up to 70 mph is available in second gear, and then comes a quick movement into third. The rev counter needle drops back for a second or two and, again at 4,000 rpm, the effect of being urged forward by some irresistible force is felt. The acceleration is truly remarkable…Press the accelerator well down even at over 100 mph in top gear and, again, there is the feeling of being on the end of a rope that is being pulled hard from in front of the car. The way the 300 SL does it all with so little fuss is almost uncanny.” CHASSIS NUMBER 198.040.5500681 The 300 SL Gullwing offered here was originally ordered from the Mercedes-Benz distributors in New York City, finished in Fire Engine Red (DB 534) over Black leather (953) interior, with the data card noting high-gloss paint as well as special upholstery. Its earliest known owner, as recorded in the Gull Wing Group Registry, was Theodore Soltis of Wilmington, Delaware. Subsequent owners are recorded as Henry K. Mearig, Jr., of Manheim, Pennsylvania, later a noted Saab and Volvo dealer in Lancaster and a regular participant in Quaker State hillclimbs during this era, as well as several enthusiasts in New York State. Afterward the car briefly returned to its homeland when purchased by Ehlich Renhard of Düsseldorf; information in the file indicates that it was first restored in Mr. Renhard’s ownership. In 1998 the 300 SL was purchased by the prolific sports car collector Gene Ponder of Marshall, Texas. Mr. Ponder retained the Gullwing in his noted collection for over eight years, before selling it in 2007 to well-known vintage Mercedes-Benz enthusiast Thomas Taffet of California. It then transacted to the current owner, who has maintained it in the Dare to Dream Collection for the last decade. During its time in the Dare to Dream Collection, the 300 SL has been cosmetically restored by the famed 300 SL specialists Rudi & Co. to the same color scheme of the car in the renowned Ralph Lauren collection, Silver Gray (DB 180) with a pigskin-grain brown leather interior. Additional mechanical services have been undertaken as necessary, with invoices for the latter included in the history file. The car is still fitted with its numbers-matching chassis and engine, as noted on the data card, as well as its numbers-matching body and front and rear axles; its gearbox is a replacement unit numbered 003165. It is presently equipped with reproduction Rudge wheels and a set of fitted luggage—two of the most desirable and sought-after options for a 300 SL—as well as a set of belly pans. It is an ideally specified example of that modern rocket, the father of the supercars to come. 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. CSX 2035 as invoiced to Shelby American on October 25, 1962, equipped with aluminum rocker arm covers, wind-wings, sun visors, front and rear bumpers, chrome exhaust tips, and a heater. It was shipped to Los Angeles, where SS Research & Development sold the car to renowned racer John Razelle of Seattle. Razelle would race the car from new, with success. During its early racing career, the car achieved notable victories, including breaking the record at the Mount Douglas Hillclimb by over three seconds. Razelle and the iconic white Cobra became a dominant presence at the Westwood Racing Circuit in British Columbia, securing a commanding win by over twelve seconds in 1964. Over multiple seasons, the car continued its winning streak in various SCCA circuit and hill climb events. In 2021, the car was acquired by its current owner, who commissioned a comprehensive restoration by Pursuit Racing to meet FIA pre-1963 specifications. During the restoration the bodywork was carried out by marque specialist Brooklands Motor Company, the engine was built by RAC TT-winning engine builder Peter Knight to the highest pre-63 spec, and complete mechanical and race preparation by Pursuit Racing. Invited to the prestigious Goodwood Revival for the past two years. At the 80th Members’ Meeting in 2023, the car won the Pre-63 race outright, setting the fastest lap at 1:29.048. - 1959 Porsche 356A Convertible D 'Project'
There isn’t much to be said about the Porsche 356 that the masses haven’t already lauded throughout the years. It is the model that cemented Porsche as one of the best among German manufacturers and garnered accolades at Le Mans and other circuits across Europe. The 356 A debuted in 1955 with numerous small yet significant changes over its early “pre-A” variant that began with the 1948 “Gmünd Roadster”. The pre-A was offered with various engines but was available as either a coupé or an open-top roadster between 1948 and 1955. Various other styles evolved over time from the early split window coupe to the roadster, and cabriolet. The Speedster, introduced in 1954 at the request of US importer Max Hoffman, was a more barebones sporting version of the 356 with a low, raked, and removable windscreen, bucket seats, and a folding top. It was a tremendous success and turned the West into the biggest market for Porsche. In the years since its introduction, the Speedster has become arguably the most desirable and iconic 356 model ever made. It was replaced in late 1958 by the more comfortable and usable Drauz-bodied “Convertible D”, which featured a taller windshield, roll-up glass windows, more comfortable seats, door panel pockets, and several other changes. Only 1,331 Convertible Ds were made between August 1958 and September 1959. This particular example, Chassis # 86210 fitted with Engine # 73637, is a Convertible D that was recently discovered in a California garage and purchased by automotive personality Dennis Collins. According to its factory build sheet, this Porsche was finished on 4/3/1959 and was purchased new by PFC Robert Grygiel of Oneonta, New York when he was likely stationed in Germany. It originally wore Ruby Red paint over a rare Brown Leatherette interior and was optioned with a Blaupunkt Bremen radio, sealed beam headlights, and Veith white wall tires. Mr. Grygiel went on to own the car until sometime in 1980 when it was purchased by Clarence Paul Buist III from California before it proceeded to sit for many years. The front facia has been replaced with one from a 356B (allegedly by Rod Emory) following a minor fender bender early in the car’s life. At some point, its color was also changed to Ivory White over a Black Leatherette interior. A copy of the original Kardex and COA on file lists the engine number as #73630 rather than the number stamped on the case #73637. Notably, the last digit, a “0” is listed instead of a “7”. We believe there is a chance this could be a clerical error in the factory records though we do not have any proof to claim this was the case. It is technically a non-matching engine number though the transmission number stamped does match the COA. The body of this example is a good basis for full restoration with rust limited to small areas of the original floor pan, bottoms of the doors, and battery box. See the underside photos for reference. Despite being stored for a number of years, the car is fairly solid and includes its original CA black plate. A Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, some original documentation including a California pink slip and transfer slip from 1980, paperwork from its 1976 sale, and an old California parking ticket are included in the sale. Following Mr. Collins’s purchase and video on his YouTube series “Coffee Walk”, the engine and dual carburetors have undergone minor servicing to make the car run. As it sits, this is one of the rarest 356 models that ever rolled out of the Porsche factory. With its correct type powertrain, barn-find story, and low production numbers, this particular Convertible D is a solid basis for a full restoration with limited rust. While it does run, it will need a total comprehensive service to be driven. Upon purchase, the new owner will receive a workshop manual, the original jack, two spare taillight lenses, a spare wheel, original floormats, a period Convertible D advertisement, and all of the miscellaneous paperwork and records on file. 1959 Porsche 356A Convertible D 'Project' LBI Limited If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1986 Lancia Delta S4 Stradale
What is there to say about the Lancia Delta S4 which hasn’t been said before? In its full-fat Martini-liveried Group B guise, it took fearless and charismatic drivers such as Henri Toivonen and Markku Alén to another dimension of performance. And as a road car, it pioneered twin-charging, an innovation we take for granted nowadays, and proudly showed that road-going Group B homologation specials were not the poorly-built bodge-jobs they’d earned a reputation as being. It might be an alumni of the ‘form follows function’ school of thought, but the S4 Stradale is a beautifully built object, both above and below the surface. Its mid-mounted twin-charged four-cylinder engine sent its ample power to all four wheels via a five-speed gearbox and not one but three differentials. And its Alcantara-strewn, air-conditioned cabin is honestly one of the best we’ve ever sat in. “In its full-fat Martini-liveried Group B guise, the Lancia Delta S4 took fearless and charismatic drivers such as Henri Toivonen and Markku Alén to another dimension of performance.” Because Lancia didn’t build the required 200 S4 Stradales to homologate the road car (we reckon as few as 70 left Turin) they’re shrouded in mystery and, as a result, attracting the interest of more and more collectors with every passing day. Another by-product is that these cars are commonly misconstrued to be intimidating and scarcely-useable turbocharged monsters. In reality, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Chassis number 033 This Lancia S4 Stradale is chassis number 033, which was awarded its Certificate of Origin on Christmas Eve of 1986, as noted on its Italian Estratto Chronologico. In March the following year, the car was sold to its first owner, Clipper Auto Ltd in Livorno, and assigned the registration ‘LI 385622’. A year later, ACI Leasing in Vicenza acquired chassis 033 and reregistered it with the number ‘VI 772093’. A handful of further Italian custodians followed until December of 1998, when this Lancia was bought by ART Engineering Ltd. The UK-based company was founded by Paolo Alessandrini, the famed Italian racing driver who competed in the World Rally Championship with a Lancia Delta S4 Corsa, the Audi Quattro and the Peugeot 205 T16 among others. Chassis 033’s next public appearance was in 2005, when it appeared at the Christie’s Exceptional Motor Cars and Automobilia auction. The car remained in England and was subsequently registered with the UK number ‘C39 OVX’. The then-owner took the decision to send this S4 Stradale to the renowned Lancia specialists Elio and Giovanni Baldi in Turin to be restored. In the process of working as part of the Lancia Martini Racing Team and Abarth during the Group B and Group A eras of rallying, they gained great knowledge, experience and respect. Today, there is simply no better people to maintain and restore these precious Lancias. During the restoration, the Baldi twins rebuilt the engine, gearbox and differentials, using their knowledge to upgrade the engine from ‘standard’ Stradale specification to ‘Potenziato’ specification, which boasts well over 300bhp. The upgrade involved installing a new and upgraded clutch, enhanced engine software and a new exhaust system. Chassis 033 was treated to a comprehensive ‘nut-and-bolt’ restoration, with the car being stripped right back to its tub. All mechanical components including the suspension and brakes were also restored. The end product was nothing short of sensational – a truly ‘as-new’ S4 Stradale. “The ‘Potenziato’ upgrade carried out by the Baldi twins involved installing a new and upgraded clutch, enhanced engine software and a new exhaust system.” Finished in Rosso Amaranto, chassis 033 was acquired by Timothy Pappas, a real-estate tycoon and the owner of Black Swan Racing in the United States. In May of 2016, the online automotive publication Petrolicious interviewed Pappas and photographed the car for a feature. Black Swan Racing is an IMSA team, which maintained this Lancia during Pappas’ ownership. Later in 2016, the S4 was sold to a significant and sizeable Chicago-based collection, where it was seldom used. Girardo & Co. negotiated the purchase of chassis 033 in August of 2018, returning the car to Europe and re-registering it in the United Kingdom. In November of that year, Classic Driver featured this S4 Stradale in yet another online magazine feature. It commented. “In reality, the S4 is not the intimidating and excessive monster is appears from the outside. It is actually a beautifully resolved sports car which you can really feel the technology beneath working with you.” You can click here to read the full story. Following its moment in the spotlight, we opted to return chassis 033 to the Baldi twins in Turin, where the car was thoroughly inspected and serviced prior to delivery to its penultimate owner, a UK-based collector of rare Lancias. Said collector has driven the car seldomly since, though it has always been carefully stored and maintained. At this time, chassis 033 starred as the feature car in our definitive guide on the Lancia Delta S4 Stradale, which you can read by clicking here. The car also featured in the Earls Court display at the world-famous Goodwood Revival meeting in 2021, which was themed for road-going homologation models. “Having dealt with over 10 of these Group B unicorns, we can confirm this Delta S4 Stradale is one of the best we’ve encountered.” Having dealt with over 10 of these Group B unicorns, we can confirm this Delta S4 Stradale is one of the best we’ve encountered, having been used sparingly since its meticulous restoration undertaken by the world’s leading marque experts. Furthermore, chassis 033 is accompanied by its tool roll, jack, spare wheel, Italian ownership documentation, Lancia Classiche certification binder and its Girardo & Co. history file, which includes many images of the aforementioned restoration process. Its odometer currently reads 23,650km. The mighty and mysterious Lancia Delta S4 Stradale is arguably the most special and technologically fascinating road-going Group B homologation special, of which we believe as few as 70 were built in 1985 and 1986. Syffice to say, chassis 033 is one of the very best. 1986 Lancia Delta S4 Stradale Girardo & Co. Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
