This, the most beautifully elegant sports racing Alfa Romeo, raced in an era featuring competition against the Porsche 906, a developed 911 flat-6 cylinder engine, Lotus 47 and the Ferrari 206 Dino. - Ferrari 312 P
In 1969, Ferrari announced its return to the endurance circuit in style. The 312 P prototype might be the most beautiful race car of all time, and we don’t say that lightly! This particular model, serial number 0872, was fitted with a Berlinetta body from new. For the 1969 season, a less speedy version took its body from the Spyder configuration. After failing to finish at Le Mans in 1969 and 1970, it came in 4th in the 1970 Daytona 24hr, and then 6th in the Sebring 12hr in March the same year. Luigi Chinetti would go on to buy both Berlinettas, adding them to his N.A.R.T racing team. Photography: Aimery Dutheil http://ow.ly/Jdwg50zia0J

- Lancia 037
Built on the basis of the Beta Montecarlo, the Lancia 037 aimed to fulfil the legacy of the Stratos and the 131 Abarth. It accomplished this perfectly in1983 when it won the World Rally Championship Constructor’s Title. To this day, it remains the last two wheel drive car to do this. Its technical blueprint included a centrally mounted engine and rear wheel drive, a layout that would later be surpassed by the all-wheel drive design of the Delta S4. - 1957 Maserati 300S Fantuzzi Spider
As a result of the success of their A6 series, Maserati decided to up the stakes by producing a vehicle to compete directly against the most current Sports Racing Ferraris. Using their 250F Grand Prix car as a starting point, a new 3.5-liter, 240-260bhp, twin-cam six was developed. An extremely clever, compact, rear-mounted transaxle was utilized, as was a deDion rear axle assembly which dramatically reduced un-sprung weight on the rear wheels. Brakes were also developed from the 250F and as such were a marvel of ingenuity. They also sat far inboard from the wheels which greatly aided in their cooling.
