- 1993 Ferrari 512 TR 1
This 1993 512 TR was purchased new by NFL player and current ESPN show host Shannon Sharpe who purchased this car early in his career to match the example Michael Jordan was famous for driving during the Chicago Bulls’s legendary 1992 NBA season. Under 3 the care of 3 owners since, the car is finished in Black over Black and is in remarkable condition, showing just 20,297 miles at the time of cataloging. Upon the consignor’s acquisition in 2023, he went to great lengths to keep the car in the immaculate condition he purchased it. To do this, he had a professional paint correction carried out, which was then covered in a full-body STEK clear paint protection film. He also sourced a NOS windshield from Ferrari which was installed and then also covered in clear glass protection film to keep the pitting and chips away. The 512 TR’s signature 5-spoke wheels are wrapped in a fresh set of Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires, and the car is ready to be driven and enjoyed. The black leather interior presents outstandingly well, with little wear evident anywhere. One of the major changes carried out with the 512 TR is an entirely revised interior over the Testarossa that is both more comfortable and more user-friendly. Gone is the elongated center stack that housed a trio of illegible gauges- those are now clearly visible and reside in a small horizontal pod directly below the HVAC vents. Where the console was is now open which gives the cabin a much more open, airy feel inside and grants the occupants more room for their knees. The angular seats from the Testarossa are gone and in their place, a comfortable set of sports seats with real bolstering and a headrest that you can actually use. The only other modification carried out on this 512 TR was the addition of period-correct looking Blaupunkt Bremen, which is paired with an Audison AP5.9 bit 5-channel amplifier. Powering the 512 TR is a heavily updated version of the Testarossa’s Flat-12 engine which featured a new air-intake system, state-of-the-art Bosch engine management, larger valves and an improved exhaust system. Additionally, the compression ratio went up from 9.2:1 to 10.0:1 which resulted in more power throughout the rev-range and peak power of 422 hp and 362 lb-ft of torque. Ferrari claimed a top speed of over 195 mph on the 512 TR and a reported 0-100 kph time of just 4.8 seconds. After listening to complaints lodged against the Testarossa’s baulky shifter, the 512 TR also received a new single plate clutch, as well as a better angle on the shift lever itself. All of these changes are important and improved the 512 TR significantly but the single largest change carried out was, through clever engineering, Ferrari was able to place the engine and gearbox unit lower in the car, which brought the center of gravity down significantly. This meant that many of the spiky handling characteristics the Testarossa exhibited at speed, were significantly reduced. The consignor purchased this car while it was mid-service at GrandPrix Motors in Campbell, CA. With fewer than 2,270 512 TRs produced between 1991 and 1994, finding a black/black example in this condition is a rarity. Given this car’s history of loving owners and open checkbook maintenance history over the past few owners, this car is dialed in and ready to be enjoyed. 1993 Ferrari 512 TR ISSIMI, Inc If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1988 Aston Martin V8 Volante
This Volante was originally specified in left hand drive V585 EFI specification destined for Switzerland and completed on 7th November 1986, finished in Jubilee Silver with dark blue hides. Upon completion the car was used by the factory for press photography displaying the factory registration ‘AML 1’ and was almost immediately converted to right hand drive UK specification in the service department at Newport Pagnell in 1987 as documented on the works record Retained on file is a copy of the original sales invoice from Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd to Aston Martin Sales Ltd on 11th January 1988 ‘Aston Martin V8 Volante Automatic Convertible, finished in Jubilee Silver with Dark Blue leather, Dark Blue Hood and set of fitted luggage, ex Works price £68,227’ The original Warranty card on file was issued to first owner Mr Robert Cooper of Cooper Metal Holdings, Swindon, on 26nd February 1988 with registration E612 KYH. Mr Cooper was a well known and loyal Aston Martin client and has enjoyed numerous new Aston Martin motorcars for over forty years. The Volante remained with Mr Cooper until it was replaced in 1989 by his brand new V8 Vantage Volante ‘Ecurie Ecosse’, the last of three special order examples built following a bespoke request from the McCaig brothers who owned the Ecurie Ecosse racing team Due to a surge of interest in the final series of 580X V8 Vantage and Volante models in the late eighties, new cars and the even rarer ‘Prince Of Wales’ specification cars were difficult to obtain and Aston Martin main agents such as Stratton and Chapman Spooner offered their clients the chance to upgrade their existing cars, hence a number of 580X Vantage Volante’s had their flairs removed and were rebuilt with ‘PoW’ coachwork During a recent conversation Roger Bennington, MD of Stratton Motor Co recalls they converted a number of Volante’s like this in period and the cost conversion was cGBP 25,000 which was a substantial amount in proportion to the values at the time In addition to the ‘PoW’ upgrades available from the aforementioned dealers a handful of Volante’s were also upgraded with 580X Vantage Volante bodywork which was also a complex and extremely costly upgrade with new panels supplied by the factory Our Volante was sold via Straight Eight in 1989 and over the winter of that year and was the subject of a comprehensive upgrade programme to latest 580X Vantage Volante cosmetic specification, refinished in Salisbury Blue and understood to have been one of a handful of cars upgraded in the period at the request of main agents Chapman Spooner by highly respected Aston Martin specialist Lincoln Scott The Volante was sold to Mr Murphy of Cossington, Leicestershire and was serviced by Chapman Spooner on March 7th 1990 at 2700 miles, again on March 11th 1991 at 5186 miles and then AML Ltd on 15th May 1992 at 9329 miles at which time it was briefly registered ‘1 AM’ as stated on the MoT certificate February 1991-1992 The next owner was Mr Paul Southgate of Essex between 1994-98 where it joined his private collection sharing garage space with a Lamborghini Countach and Espada. Throughout Mr Southgate’s ownership the Aston was serviced by Aston Martin Sevenoaks on 6th January 1994 at 11,612 miles and was later sent to Aston Martin exponents RS Williams on 6th March 1996 for full mechanical conversion from electronic fuel injection to carburettors setup (whilst retaining its original matching numbers engine and gearbox) and fitted with the latest RSW handling pack and Brembo big brake conversion, the cost of which today would exceed GBP 25,000 The Volante was later serviced by Carrera Sport of Haywards Heath on 14th July 1998 at 18,610 miles and sold to the previous owner in October of that year via Aston specialist dealer Byron International in October 1998 with mileage at 19,000 miles The Volante would remain with its former keeper for the next twenty five years covering just 9700 miles during their ownership and totalling 28,781 miles by October 2023. During their tenure the Volante benefitted from a chassis restoration and maintenance by marque expert John Etheridge and Nicholas Mee. The car was professionally stored from August 2002 to October 2023 in a temperature controlled environment, regularly started and MoT tested every year until its sale on 27th October 2023 Over the past twelve months the Volante has been the subject of extensive recommissioning programme at a cost in excess of GBP 50,000 with marque specialists Quantum Works and R.S.Williams with supporting photos and invoices. An inspection of the car in the workshop in October 2023 revealed it had excellent structural condition, excellent original interior/carpets/hood, excellent bodywork and a very healthy engine, a testament to the excellent conditions at Tigastore but in need of a full recommission following a long period of stoarge The engine was subsequently removed, water pump/ancillaries rebuilt, engine bay and engine fully repainted and detailed with all relevant ancillaries replated, carburettor fuel system rebuild and tune, gearbox rebuild with quick shift kit, air conditioning rebuild with new hoses, new alloy radiator, new oil cooler, uprated ignition, RSW big bore exhaust system, Nardi steering wheel, new Michelin Pilot Sport tires, original Ronal wheels refurbished, RSW wheel spacer kit, new wishbone and differential bushes with geometry setup, full brake rebuild with new servos etc, Blaupunkt DAB radio to name but a few items! Supplied with the original service book, every MoT certificate from new warranting the low 31,500 original miles, extensive service history and original Tanne and Krolle fitted luggage, this superb Volante is now ready for immediate enjoyment and both presents and drives extremely well 1988 Aston Martin V8 Volante Dylan Miles Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1972 Ferrari 246 Dino GT
Youthquake Few cars scream 1970s sex appeal like the Ferrari 246 Dino GT, a model conceived to inject some welcomed sporting youth into a 12-cylinder range which very much appealed to the marque’s older clientele. How beautiful is that sultry soap-bar body? It could only be the work of Pininfarina, which, in the face of the angular geometric trends of the time, still managed to make it look fresh and contemporary. Arguably the best bit about the Dino is that it is every bit as good to drive as it is to look at. And that’s something that certainly can’t be said of every late-1960s/early-1970s sports car. Chassis no. 03148 As evidenced by the accompanying correspondence between Maranello Concessionaires in England and the Ferrari factory, this final-development E-series 246 Dino GT – chassis number 03148 – was originally finished in Rosso Chiaro Ferrari (20-R-190) over a Nero (161) interior. The only optional extra noted was the electric windows. Ordered in December of 1971 by Maranello Concessionaires and supplied to the Jersey Ferrari agent Henry Linton Cars in March of 1972, this Dino was acquired new by one Mervyn Frankel. Mervyn Frankel is the father of the veteran automotive journalist Andrew Frankel, who recalls chassis 03148 as the very first Ferrari he ever saw in the metal as an impressionable boy. In 2021 we had the privilege of reuniting Andrew with his father’s old car – an unforgettable occasion which he chronicled in a truly wonderful story on The Intercooler. “Though I was just six at the time, my memories of that Ferrari are seared on my memory. I remember sitting in both seats, waggling the wheel and stirring the stick in one when my father wasn’t looking, and being mesmerised by the sight of those front wings rising up before me in the other. And the noise. Oh that noise: a 2418cc 65-degree V6 with four chain driven camshafts fed by a trio of downdraft Weber carburettors. It has stayed with me forever.” “Taken off road for various periods, ‘ETV 48L’ has never been driven in the winter and only occasionally has she been out in the rain when the weather forecast proved inaccurate!” John Gardner, Owner 1973-2007 We digress. In the face of a global financial crisis, Frankel Snr. was forced to sell the Dino after just a year of ownership. Having completed its two initial complimentary services as per the accompanying original Warranty Card, chassis number 03148 was sold to the industrial magnate John Paul Gardner in March of 1973 and registered in the United Kingdom with the number ‘ETV 48L’. It’s the registration this Dino retains to this day. Gardner was a keen driver and entered the Dino in both the Curborough Sprint Event and the Wiscombe Park Speed Hill Climb. In addition to his impressions from these events, Gardner fastidiously recorded the details of every journey he undertook with this Ferrari and any maintenance in a small blue notebook. The detail is quite extraordinary. For example, in April of 1975, he notes that the spark plugs were replaced, the contact breaker points were reset and all four wheels and brakes were removed for thorough cleaning. Gardner continued to chronicle his ownership of this Dino – a period that would span 34 years and some 16,000 miles. When he finally decided to part with chassis number 03148, Gardner was interviewed about his time with the car. “Apart from outings to the AMOC Curborough Sprint and AMOC Wiscombe Hillclimb, the car has not been used competitively,” he recalled. “Taken off road for various periods, ‘ETV 48L’ has never been driven in the winter and only occasionally has she been out in the rain when the weather forecast proved inaccurate!” This Ferrari changed hands for just the second time in November of 2007. In 2011, its third and penultimate owner submitted chassis number 03148 for Ferrari Classiche certification – certification it duly received, confirming the matching-numbers engine, gearbox and body, in addition to the original specification. We had the pleasure of finding this 246 GT a new home in the summer of 2021. And satisfyingly, chassis 03418’s fourth and current owner has used and enjoyed the car, all the while continuing where its previous owners left off and always maintaining it regardless of cost. Owing to a permanent move abroad, said owner has now entrusted us, once again, with rehoming this most beguiling of Ferraris. “Chassis number 03148’ Ferrari Classiche certification confirms the matching-numbers engine, gearbox and body, in addition to the original specification.” Beguiling really is the word to describe the condition of this Dino. Especially inside, where the leatherette upholstery has aged incredibly well. The headlining is taught and not sagging at all, and the mouse-hair dash has not faded as much as other examples we’ve encountered. The 8-track stereo remains functional and in the glovebox you’ll find cassettes to suit most 1970s tastes. Peer behind the steering wheel at the column and you’ll even find the sealed customs tag from when the car was originally imported to the United Kingdom. It should go without saying that chassis number 03418 retains all its accompanying factory paraphernalia: its spare key, tool roll, jack (complete with leather pouch), and leather books pouch, containing the warranty card, service book, owner’s manual and spare-parts catalogue. The latter documents are all in excellent condition – a credit to the car’s former keepers. Finding unrestored 1970s Ferraris in such condition and with such provenance today is an increasingly rare occurrence, which goes some way to explain why we’re so excited by this Dino. Chassis 03148 is certainly a car that needs to be seen in the metal to be truly appreciated. We’ll let Andrew Frankel have the final word. “Every Dino I’ve driven has been different and this one is just better: it feels quick in a way no Dino ever has, its driveline gloriously precise and lacking in shunt, its gearchange beautifully easy but with no slack nor sign of synchro wear. It’s just one of the good ones, and you get them from time to time, particularly in cars from an era and a factory where no two were ever quite the same.” 1972 Ferrari 246 Dino GT Girardo & Co. - 1965 BMW 1800 TI FIA
The foundation of BMW's post-war resurgence was the four-door 1500 saloon and its derivatives - the 'Neue Klasse' - introduced in 1961. All variants were powered by the Munich firm's dependable, single overhead-camshaft, four-cylinder M10 engine which, despite its humble origins, would later form the basis of a turbo-charged 1,000bhp Grand Prix unit and Formula 1 World Championship winner. New for 1963, the 1800 model used a 1,773cc 90bhp engine at first before rationalisation saw it replaced by an updated short-stroke 1,766cc unit in 1968. Soon there was a more sporting version available – the 1800 TI (Touring International) – which had been developed by the tuning company Alpina and featured two twin-choke Solex carburettors and a higher compression ratio, modifications that raised peak output to 110bhp. This in turn led to the more powerful and track-focused 1800 TI/SA 'homologation special'. On offer here is a well known, race-proven, right-hand drive BMW 1800 TI, run and prepared to the highest standards by marque experts, Laranca Engineering. Before becoming a well seasoned race car, the TI was campaigned in rallying by Jill Watson during the 1990s and there is an accompanying history file with the car containing more information on its busy and impressive life. The BMW’s last engine refresh was in 2018 by Laranca and since then it’s completed one race in 2018 at the Oldtimer event at the Nürburgring and hasn’t been campaigned since. The FIA papers (GB10243) are valid until 31st December 2026 ensuring that this car offers access into some of the most tightly contested and desirable Historic Motorsport championships on offer. Our vendor has moved to South America and has reluctantly decided that it’s time to let it go. The TI is being offered at a seriously tempting guide price when you consider the cost to replicate, advertised prices for similar cars, and its proven race pedigree. 1965 BMW 1800 TI FIA Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1996 Porsche 993 Targa Tiptronic S
The iconic Porsche 993 was introduced in 1994 as a replacement for the outgoing 964 model and was produced up until 1998. Regarded by many as the finest generation of 911, the 993 was the last to use the air cooled flat six engine. Available in three body styles; Coupe, Convertible and Targa with its sliding glass roof. The new car was the most sweepingly changed 911 ever. Gone were the nearly upright headlights that had accompanied the 911 for over thirty years. They were replaced with 959-like items in favour of better aerodynamics. The new style bumper and front wings gave the 993 a fresh look, without losing the identity of the 911. The 993 wore newly designed 16-inch wheels, wider rear arches and twin exhausts positioned on both the left and right of the rear bumper. Beneath the front bumper were ‘air-relief’ vents, to help air escape from the wheel wells and the chassis revisions were just as extensive. The 3.6-litre engine was modified to give 270 bhp which was coupled to Porsche’s new four-speed Tiptronic gearbox, giving the 993 a 0-60 mph of sub 7 secs and a top speed of 168 mph where permitted. The Porsche 993 Targa Tiptronic S offered here at Autostorico is finished in Artic silver metallic with Black leather interior. Supplied new by Stratstone Porsche Wilmslow in December 1996 this stunning 80,652 mile example, boasts a comprehensive service history carried out by a mix of Porsche main dealer and specialists. The most recent of which was carried out by RGA Porsche Centre at 79,948 miles including fitting a complete exhaust system. The car has also recently been to Center Gravity Atherstone for a full suspension setup and drives superbly. Specification highlights include; Panoramic Targa sunroof, 17” Alloy wheels, Air conditioning, Headlamp powerwash, Rear wiper, Electric windows, Power door mirrors, High level brake light in rear spoiler, Part electric seats and Blaupunkt Bremen audio system. Supplied with an extensive history file including a current V5 registration document, previous MOT’s, Original book pack Inc. service book and various other related invoices. A complete tool kit including tyre pump and first aid kit. 1996 Porsche 993 Targa Tiptronic S Autostorico Partners LLP If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright The iconic Porsche 993 was introduced in 1994 as a replacement for the outgoing 964 model and was produced up until 1998. - 1964 Jaguar E-Type 1
It all began in the 1960’s. Jaguar unveiled a breed of racers that would come to define an era - the E-Type. Among the twelve remarkable specimens created, three would undergo a transformative evolution, earning the collective title of Low Drag Coupes. Among these three legends, "49FXN" emerged as the chosen one, capturing the imagination of mastermind Marco Diaz. Assisted by the surviving members of the original team, including the esteemed aerodynamicist Dr. Samir Klat, and armed with a treasure trove of archival treasures such as original blueprints, documents, and rare photographs, Diaz embarked on a quest to breathe new life into the spirit of "49 FXN." As the journey unfolded, two resplendent chassis took shape. One was christened "OWL226," the sole left-hand-drive incarnation of this masterpiece. The other, known by the moniker "13FXN," now graces the hallowed grounds of Goodwood, racing alongside its elder E-Type siblings. Under the hood of OWL226 roars a 3.8-liter LWE Inline-6 engine, outfitted with precision components courtesy of Croswaithe & Gardiner. With an engine handcrafted by the artisans at Ed Pink Racing Engines and a chassis/suspension meticulously fashioned by RS Panels and Croswaithe & Gardiner, it's a potent blend of heritage and performance. This automotive symphony rides on custom Koni shocks and 15-inch magnesium wheels, proving that one need not compromise comfort and style when crafting an automotive masterpiece. However, the true magic unfolds within the cabin. Diaz's vision, guided by an unwavering commitment to excellence, transcends the utilitarian roots of the originals, which were built for the racetrack with little regard for opulence. In a remarkable departure from the norm, Diaz elevates the interior to an unprecedented realm of luxury and sophistication. Virtually every interior component, from the seats to the headliner and door panels, is an artisanal creation, meticulously handcrafted to perfection. The pièce de résistance, however, is the incorporation of switches salvaged from RAF fighter planes, infusing a touch of history and nostalgia into every drive. The acclaim bestowed upon "OWL226" since its debut at the 2019 Quail Gathering speaks volumes. Featured in illustrious publications like the Wall Street Journal and Finish Line, this is more than just an automobile; it's a testament to the dedication, expertise, and artistry of individuals who have mastered their respective crafts. It's the harmonious convergence of history, innovation, and unrelenting pursuit of perfection – a masterpiece reborn for the ages. - 1973-alfa-romeo-giulia-1600
1973 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 ‘Rallye’ Type 105. This legendary Italian sports saloon combines timeless design with exhilarating performance, making it a must-have for any car enthusiast or collector. One of only fifty commissioned by Alfa Romeo South Africa in a limited edition run with only 10 believed to be remaining. This particular vehicle has been subject to a ground up restoration to (almost) original specification. In December 1972, Alfa Romeo South Africa released the 1600 rallye. This locally developed more powerful 1600cc version of the 1300 super, using the 1300s single headlight body shell. The car was largely ready for competition and was only planned to be built in limited numbers. From factory, they were fitted with racing style rear view mirrors, rally lamps, fully adjustable seats, and a limited slip differential. Claimed power output was 125 horsepower. The engine in this specific car has been upgraded to a 2000 unit for additional torque and power, whilst remaining the original ‘oil bath’ air filters which often got replaced. The 2000cc engine is from a Berlin 1600 super body. It is also said that only 50 of these cars were produced, but nowhere was any record keep of these cars. Being mated to a five speed manual transmission, the car drives tremendously and sounds superb. The styling was quite straight forward, but with a great amount of detail. The engine bay, cabin and boot were all square shaped. But the grill, the rooflines and details on the bonnet and boot made for an integrated design from bumper to bumper. Thanks to Alfa Romeo using a wind tunnel during its development, the Giulia was very aerodynamic with a very low drag coefficient. The eye catching red paint suits the car really well and helps show off its stunning lines. The Giulia was manufactured in Italy and assembled by Alfa Romeo in South Africa at a plant at Booysens in Johannesburg in 1972. This Alfa was later restored in Africa and imported to the UK in 2016, where it has had one owner since. Showing 33,000 miles, the car has been well looked after by various Alfa Romeo specialists since being in the uk. In 2022, the engine was rebuilt along with a fresh oil service, new carburettors and more. The interior features original vintage black leather seats, complete with original dash and gauges, 1600 Rallye badges, wooden and leather dashboard, leather door cards with original door nets, wooden centre console and rear centre armrest. The interior has been kept well preserved which really enhances the aesthetic appeal of the car. Accompanying the car is extensive amounts of history from when the car was in Africa and when the vehicle was imported. Other paperwork includes previous invoices, fact sheets, wiring diagrams, V5 and more. Spare parts included in the sale include original wheels, camshafts, instrument clusters, carburettors and more. The overall condition is excellent. Driving a classic Alfa Romeo brings a sense of nostalgia and connects drivers to automotive history. Many enthusiasts appreciate the engineering, craftsmanship, and stories that accompany them. Being behind the wheel of a classic Alfa can evoke memories of a different era, making each drive feel special and significant. This Giulia provides a rich and engaging driving experience that enthusiasts cherish. Whether for the thrill of the road or the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts, it will remain a beloved choice for those who appreciate the art of driving. 1973 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Classic Connection If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The RCT (RUF Carrera Turbo) proved so successful for RUF that RCT conversions can still be carried out today, with the latest specification now known as the RCT Evo. Utilizing a 993-sourced ECU, the RCT Evo offers 425 bhp at 5,800 RPM and a monstrous 570 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm, and the car will reach a top speed of 199 mph. With the addition of a single-turbocharger, the RCT package saw power figures eclipse that of even Porsche’s halo Turbo model. The continued development to Evo specification represents a further rise of 60 bhp and 9mph in terms of top speed over the original RCT. The conversion also includes replacing the original five-speed manual gearbox with a six-speed G50 unit, fitting RUF’s iconic green-lettered instruments and upgraded five-spoke wheels, limited-slip differential as well as a full adjustable suspension. At the time of the conversion, the engine also received a comprehensive overhaul and rebuild to ensure it was able to handle the increased power. The RCT Evo was re-introduced in 2020 as a complete, factory-built restoration. Whilst the engine upgrade alone is quite simple, original factory-built examples received a bespoke RUF chassis number as well as the subtle integrated roll cage, and whilst the new cars retain their original chassis, the integrated roll cage can be added into a complete restoration. This RCT Evo is one such example. The commissioning owner sourced an original, UK supplied and registered 964 from a noted Porsche dealership before delivering the car to RUF at their home in Pffafenhausen. Stripped back to a bare shell, the car would receive an integrated roll cage ahead of assembly. Notably at the time of restoration, the decision was made to opt for a total refinishing in carbon fibre. The Lightweight package includes a complete re-panelling including the front bumper, front hood, rear hood, rear bumper, roof, front and rear fenders. Furthermore, this example was optioned as a widebody but remains rear-wheel drive only. These developments save 75 kg over their steel counterparts. Finished in a bespoke Violet Ayres metallic blend for the commissioning owner, the interior received a full retrim in Mojave Beige leather with body-coloured matching stitching. Leveraging a more modern Recaro seat design, the buckets tip forward allowing access to the pared-back luggage space behind the front seats. The seatbacks add cohesion also finished in body colour. After completion, the comissioning owner allowed RUF to use this very car for a wealth of marketing materials and news stories globally. Having covered just 9,200 miles since its recomissioning, this RCT Evo has since been meticulously stored and maintained by RUF in Germany. Having taken delivery of another bespoke comission, this full carbon fibre bodied, factory-built RUF RCT Evo presents and as unique opportunity. 1989 Porsche RUF RCT EVO D.K. - 1961-maserati-3500-gt-touring
Introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1957, the 3500 GT marked a turning point for Maserati, cementing its reputation as a maker of refined and alluring grand tourers. Designed by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, the 3500 GT Coupe seamlessly blended elegant Italian styling with the performance pedigree of Maserati’s championship-winning racers. Under the hood a 3.5-liter twin-cam straight-six, derived from the world-beating 350S racing engine, initially featured Weber carburetors and later mechanical fuel injection. Early models, such as the example offered here, are particularly prized for their carbureted configuration and pure lines. Built on a lightweight tubular chassis and clothed in Superleggera aluminum coachwork, the 3500 GT offered effortless high-speed cruising with innovations like front disc brakes and a ZF five-speed manual gearbox. With approximately 2,200 coupes constructed from 1957 through 1964, the model is rare and highly collectible. The 3500 GT offered here, chassis 1730, is reported to have been sold new in Italy in July 1961, finished as it is today in Lancia Blu Scuro over dark red leather—quite an attractive combination. An early production example, chassis 1730 possesses among the model’s most desirable features, including a trio of Weber carburetors, front disc brakes, and the ZF five-speed manual gearbox. The car is believed to have remained with its first owner until the mid-1980s when it is said to have passed to another conscientious Italian enthusiast. Badges affixed throughout the car indicate that it is registered with the International Maserati Register as number 002. With its distinguished livery and irresistible patina, this car offers the discerning collector a coveted opportunity to acquire a well-preserved and immensely appealing example of one of Maserati’s most celebrated grand tourers. 1961 Maserati 3500 GT Touring RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
