- 1968 Bizzarrini 5300 GT Stradale
Born in 1926, Giotto Bizzarrini was one of the leading racing car designers in Italy. Among other things, he designed the legendary Ferrari 250 GTO at Ferrari, which is now one of the most expensive sports car classics. He developed the V12 engine for Lamborghini, which was installed in the 350 GT, and supported the Iso company in the development of the Iso Rivolta and Iso Grifo. His dream was to build a competitive racing car that could beat the Ferrari 250 GTO. He developed a sports car with a consistent lightweight aluminium construction, a low centre of gravity and a set-back engine. In a performance-optimised version, the Chevrolet engine achieved around 450 hp. The top speed was specified at around 275 km/h. A total of around 149 vehicles were produced between 1963 and 1969 as road and racing versions. The small production run, the fabulous performance and acceleration from 0 to 100 in just 6 seconds and, last but not least, the extremely powerful looks made the Bizzarrini GT Strada 5300 a legend even in the 1960s. The vehicle presented here is one of the few remaining original Bizzarrini 5300 GT Stradale from 1968. The car has been in our client’s circle for over 25 years and impresses with its very authentic and restored condition. A large folder with FIVA papers, invoices, valuation reports, old newspaper articles and an extract from the Bizzarrini register are available. An absolute rarity for enthusiasts, collectors and investors! 1968 Bizzarrini 5300 GT Stradale Thiesen Hamburg GmbH If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1966 Shelby 427 S/C Cobra
It was classic Carroll Shelby, a delightfully mad idea made even madder: Take the already ferocious 289 Cobra . . . and “upgrade” it with a 427-cubic-inch V-8. Though Shelby intended to race the 427 Cobra, by the time FIA inspectors arrived at his facility, only 51 of the cars had been completed, and so he was adamantly denied their homologation approval. Shelby consequently painted and completed 29 competition chassis with fully trimmed interiors, and shrewdly marketed them as the 427 S/C or “Semi-Competition,” the fastest roadgoing car ever built—while retaining the oil cooler, riveted hood scoop, flared fenders, side exhausts, dual lightweight batteries, 42-gallon fuel tank, and external fuel filler of full “competition” models. Just as Jaguar’s XKSS was a thinly veiled D-Type racecar, so too was the 427 S/C Cobra a barely disguised, roadgoing variant of the 427 Competition Cobra. They were insanely, brutally quick, faster than many full-bore racing cars of the period, and can rightfully be considered the ultimate “street” Cobra. Today, these special cars remain extremely sought-after stalwarts of the vintage racing communities in both Europe and America. CSX 3036: NEVER BITTEN, TWICE THE VICTOR Offered for the first time in 25 years of greatly enjoyed residence within one of America’s finest collections of mid-century American sports and racing cars, CSX 3036 is among the most distinguished Semi-Competition Cobras. Remaining notably original with SAAC documented history since new, including prior ownership by Shelby marque historian Ken Eber, CSX 3036 is a true prize worthy of all serious collectors wishing to secure a significant and eminently usable Cobra for their own stable. Very, very few highly authentic S/C Cobra cars like this remain today, and the best ones, like CSX 3036, seldom change hands. According to the Shelby Registry, CSX 3036 was shipped to Shelby American on 21 February 1965. Following the FIA homologation issues that led to the creation of the S/C series, it was converted to S/C specifications under work order #L5094 in June 1966. After completion, painted in Ivy Green, it was sold to San Francisco’s S&C Motors on 21 June 1966, for $7,395. In October 1966, S&C Motors sold CSX 3036 to its first recorded owner, Peter Van Valen. However, the S/C clearly proved to be a bit too much for Van Valen as well as its subsequent owner, Ronald Carter, who in late 1967 sold the car to Ken Bender of Eugene, Oregon after his wife and children had burned their legs on the S/C’s formidable side pipes. Within Bender’s care, CSX 3036 was repainted with a McDonald’s red-and-yellow livery (his family owned several McDonald’s franchises) and run with great success in COWPAC regional SCCA events during 1969 and 1970; the pair finished dead-tied for the 1969 title, and then won it outright in 1970 by a significant margin. Following its back-to-back COWPAC SCCA championships, Bender and CSX 3036 moved from Oregon to Madera, California. Although its racing days were over, Bender nonetheless had the car repainted Guardsman Blue with gray stripes and held onto it until 1981, when he sold it to Shelby marque historian Ken Eber. By 1987, CSX 3036—recently refinished in red paint by Eber—had racked up more than 14,000 miles of use via road and track. Later that year, it was painted black by its next owner, and next reappeared in 1992 under the care of San Diego Padres owner John Moores in Rancho Santa Fe, California. While with Moores, CSX 3036 was reportedly treated to a sympathetic restoration by the highly regarded marque specialist Mike McCluskey. The SAAC Registry notes that “McCluskey did not wish to disturb the originality of the Cobra and only replaced items that were incorrect or in need of replacement.” Once relieved from McCluskey’s purview, Moores then donated this remarkable S/C Cobra to The Scripps Research Institute in San Diego. 25 YEARS OF COBRA In August 1998 the consignor purchased CSX 3036 from the Scripps Institute via auction, and since then it has played a much-prized stablemate to outstanding examples of some of the most significant mid-century American racing cars, including a 1963 Corvette Grand Sport, 1964 Cobra Daytona Coupe, multiple Factory FIA/USRRC team cars—in addition to magnificent Italian and English exotica. Among such rarefied company, CSX 3036 has nonetheless always remained a distinguished and highly prized specimen. Over the first six years of the consignor’s ownership, CSX 3036 was comprehensively restored to its current state of presentation by noted Pebble Beach contenders Hall Fabrication of Berkeley, California and Terry Scarborough Racing of Sonoma, California. The car was totally disassembled, with an exceptionally high degree of originality noted throughout. The chassis, doors, transmission tunnel, trunk and hood locks were all discovered to retain their original chassis number-matched stampings, while the body panels showed no signs of major repair completed during its successful SCCA racing career. At the same time, CSX 3036’s engine was entirely rebuilt by Top of The Hill Performance Center in Livermore, California; dyno sheets (on file) from the time of the car’s completion note excellent performance of 544 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. Two years after the completion of its stellar restoration, CSX 3036 was turned over to the noted Porsche racecar driver Johannes van Overbeek, who meticulously sorted and optimized the Cobra’s chassis and suspension settings. At that time, the consignor also commissioned a production run of correct-type magnesium wheels from Halibrand using their original molds. Having received an ACCUS FIA Technical Passport in 2008, CSX 3036 is highly eligible for many forms of vintage racing and rallies. Further, there can be no doubt that it would certainly be a welcome entrant to every marque-focused exhibition of significant Shelby automobiles. The consignor reports many hours of trouble-free high-speed touring behind the wheel of this incredible S/C Cobra over the past 25 years—better yet, it has never bitten him with its famously inhospitable side pipes! In 2019, the consignor tracked down and purchased CSX 3036’s original AC Cars chassis tag, which had been kept as a memento by the family of former Shelby American employee Bill McLean. Of the 29 production S/C Cobras produced, CSX 3036 checks all the proverbial boxes. With stellar two-time SCCA title-winning race history, and well-known ownership by two of the world’s most highly regarded Shelby marque collectors, CSX 3036 is inarguably among the very best an 1966 Shelby 427 S/C Cobra RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright It was classic Carroll Shelby, a delightfully mad idea made even madder: Take the already ferocious 289 Cobra . . . and “upgrade” it with a 427-cubic-inch V-8. - 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS 2
The much sought-after Ferrari 246 Dino GT was named after Enzo Ferrari's son Alfredo, who died in 1956, aged just 24. Enzo Ferrari credits his son with the inspiration for a series of successful small and medium capacity V6 racing engines built by Ferrari from 1956, and in turn, the name was given to a new line of mid-engined production Ferrari V6 coupés, which first went on sale in 1969. The Dino 246 GT has proved to be one of the most satisfying and successful automobiles built by Ferrari and paved the way for the emerging generation of mid-engined Ferraris. It is widely regarded as one of the best-handling and most gratifying automobiles of the early 70s, it is one of the most attractive, delicately balanced designs ever produced by the masters at Pininfarina. As a result, Dinos have enjoyed a well-deserved recent surge in popularity. The GTS version of the 246 Dino arrived at the Geneva Salon in March 1972, it was built on the series III platform and featured a removable targa roof panel that could be stowed behind the seats. The chassis was also modified with reinforced extra bracing along the sides and front of the engine frame. Aside the targa top visibly the GTS could be identified by the lack of rear three-quarter windows, these being replaced by a bank of three vents carved out from each sail panel. Production of both the GT and GTS came to an end in 1974, just 1274 GTSs were built. This Dino GTS was supplied new in Bianco Polo Park over Blu 135 with Blue Carpets and electric windows. Completed in October 1973, the car was supplied new by Pennine Motors of Harrogate, through the UK market importer, Maranello Concessionaires Ltd. The invoiced price to Pennine Motors in November 1973 was £5,572.95 including delivery, less the dealer's 17.5 % discount. The car was purchased in August 1974 and until 2021, this example resided within the large and significant collection of His Royal Highness Prince Alwaleed Al Saud, grandson of the founder and first ruler of Saudi Arabia. Understood to have been a gift by his wife, the Dino was purchased in the UK and fitted with a rather fitting cherished registration ‘3 HRH’ which it wore until 1993, leaving the UK in 2007. The Dino would follow the Prince to his Geneva residence, where it would change to a full diplomatic registration mark denoted by the precursory ‘CD’, an abbreviation of ‘Corps Diplomatique’, at the start. In total, this GTS would remain in the care of His Royal Highness Prince Alwaleed Al Saud for 47 years. Invoices in file document restorative works with Geneva-based Ferrari Modena Motors SA totalling £67,000 in 2009 and more recently, further works carried out by trusted main dealer and notable classic Ferrari specialist, Niki Hasler Ferrari of Basel amounting to a further £80,000. Purchased by a close friend of the Prince in 2021, this wonderful Dino is today offered for sale publicly for the first time since 1974. Presenting today superbly, in its striking original colour combination of Bianco Polo Park over Blu, this Dino GTS, certified as matching numbers and understood to be genuine mileage, is available to view at our showrooms outside London immediately. 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS D.K. - 1979 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4
UK-supplied in right-hand drive, this pretty, Bertone-designed, mid-engined V8 GT4 is in superb order throughout. Introduced at the 1973 Paris Motor Show, the Dino 308 GT4 was a significant departure for Ferrari in several ways. It was the first production car from Modena to feature a mid-engined V8, a layout that would become common to their core range for decades to come, along with the first production model to feature Bertone styling rather than Pininfarina bodywork. The chassis was based on the Dino 246 but was stretched to make space for a 2+2 configuration and the 3-litre V8 was integrally joined with the gearbox and featured an alloy block and heads with dual overhead camshafts fed through four Weber 40 DCNF carburettors. The styling was controversial at the time, with some journalists comparing it to the Bertone-designed Lancia Stratos and Lamborghini Urraco and the proportions gave traditionalists an attack of the vapours but, as is often the way, Bertone's styling effort probably looks better now than it ever has. For all this, the car was a huge success, being bigger and more usable than any other mid-engine car had managed or would manage for a while. More than 3,600 were sold, dwarfing sales of V12 models and showing Ferrari the way forward. Today, these 1970s Ferraris have come of age with their classic looks and brilliant handling and are as fast as you are ever going to need in the real world, with a top speed of over 150mph and 0-60mph in 6.4 seconds. Classically presented in Rosso Corsa with a contrasting black interior, this example was UK-supplied in right-hand drive by Maranello Concessionaires on 29th March 1979 and is offered fresh to market from 11 years with its current owner. For most of this period it has been diligently cared for by the respected team at ‘QV London’ and serviced annually as required with the last service carried out at 40,652 miles (current indicated mileage 40,955) at which time the cam belt, tensioner and cam belt pulley were replaced. The history file contains almost every MOT Certificate issued since the date of original registration, including the current one valid until June 2025 and the documented service history is stamped by notable names including Maranello, JR Etheridge, John Pogson at Autosport Italia and latterly, QV. With regards to the car’s overall condition, the external paintwork has clearly been refinished at some time but still retains a deep lustre with the interior thought to be as it left the factory, presenting extremely well with the odd blemish that could be very easily enhanced if required, however an air of originality is not always a bad thing providing a nod of approval to the years of enjoyable miles covered by previous custodians. It’s supplied with the original document wallet, service book and Ziebart Rust Proofing documentation and pleasingly, its original toolkit and an original spare wheel sitting snugly in their dedicated slots. If you are looking for an extremely honest and useable GT4 then we recommend your early inspection to fully appreciate the opportunity on offer. 1979 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The story behind this collectible... - You don't buy transportation, you buy class and quality. - The Mercedes SL R107: sporty, light, but with the solid luxury that only our eastern neighbors understand. Introduced in 1971, the new SL was a grandiose sales success from the start. That was actually not so obvious. At the time, the car was more expensive than a Ferrari 246GT Dino and twice as expensive as the Jaguar E-type. Whereas the car depreciated significantly then, it has proved to be a good investment in recent years. As a classic, the car does great; a real value for money. At the Cool Classic Club, we love these cars because they tick so many boxes. A perfect 8-cylinder, beautiful chrome, a seventies interior design, plenty of space, and super-reliable technology. A modern driving experience while driving around in a seventies icon. Our example is a German delivered model. Owned by a powerful 3.5L V8 that will take you from A to B in style with any urgency. Not at all bad to make a detour. The gold metallic with black leather interior really shows this car off, especially with the soft top down. Before she came to us, she received a major service, allowing you to arrive at the Ligurian Sea over the Alps without any problems. Will you come try it out with us? "A roadster for those who appreciate both beauty and engineering." - Mercedes Benz Let's take a step back in time, to the year 1959. The smell of freshly ground coffee fills the air, emanating from the bustling coffee houses where people gather on a spring morning. The sound of a soft purr attracts the attention of passers-by. A sleek Mercedes-Benz, with the iconic star proudly displayed on the radiator grille, turns the corner and gracefully comes to a halt in the middle of the boulevard. Eyes follow the elegant lines of the car. There stands the 190SL, the elegant and stylish counterpart to its big brother, the legendary 300SL. The 190SL, which originated from the design of the Mercedes 'Ponton', was first unveiled at the New York Auto Show. A year later, in Geneva, the production version was presented to the general public. Remarkably, this beautiful roadster was not positioned as a pure sports car, but as a luxurious, comfortable two-seater. This turned out to be a golden move—between 1955 and 1963, more than 25,000 units left the German production line, each with the same attention to detail and craftsmanship. This Cool Classic has received full technical attention. Maintained with care and love, everything has been done to bring it into top technical condition. Although the paint technique is somewhat outdated, this does not detract from the charm and quality of the car. The car is completely ready for wonderfully enjoyable rides. - 1976 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale
The Lancia Stratos HF (HF stands for "high fidelity") came to be built as nothing less than a series-built competition car, launched as Lancia's entry in the FIA world rally championship in 1972 and virtually unbeatable until 1975 when it was retired to give the lowly Fiat 131 a chance at competition glory. The Stratos was street-legal merely to satisfy the FIA rulebook. For the Miura and Countach, Gandini was charged with only the styling; for the Stratos, Bertone gave him the whole ball of wax from mechanical layout to the final form. What Gandini gave Lancia was a midengine layout built around a central monocoque with bolt-on space frames front and rear, fully adjustable suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and a transversely mounted DOHC Ferrari Dino V6 with a five-speed transaxle. Most important, Gandini also delivered a simple, flip-up fiberglass body with a brutally stunning shape that makes any other rally car look decidedly average. Chris Hrabalek, a London-based automotive designer who owns the prototype, states," In 1971, the idea of the midengine road car was still exotic. The 1968 Ferrari 246 GT Dino had only recently made such a thing practical on the street and Chevrolet was busily exploring the midengine concept for the Corvette. But Gandini single-handedly yanked the whole midengine idea into reality with the Stratos, an angry rejection of the glossy GTs of the 1960s”. Even now, no other midengine car looks so modern as the Lancia Stratos. Its shape still has appeal, as Hrabalek proved when he drew rave reviews with his Fenomenon NewStratos, a concept car for an evolutionary interpretation of the Stratos idea that was unveiled at the 2005 Geneva Auto Show. Factory figures quote the Stradale's 2.4-liter V6 to produce 190 horsepower at 7,400 rpm (the rally cars made 240 hp or so) and makes 169 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm, so the car is good for 0 to 60 mph in the sub-7s. This rare Lancia Stratos is one of those exceptional finds one only rarely comes across and is one of 492 Stratos HF Stradales to have left the marque’s Chivasso plant. The majority of the examples to have been produced were either modified for rally use or beat up and restored, however, this time-warp example goes against the grain having been kept original and unmolested throughout its life, a real “reference car”. Upon inspection the car is found to retain its original engine, gearbox, body, brakes, suspension, exterior paint, exhaust, wheels, and exterior stickers. This car has never been standing for a long time, it’s just been used very little but on a regular basis by all its previous owners. Inside the car, the seats are finished in a stunning tan suede leather upholstery and the carpets present in excellent condition throughout the inside. On the outside, the car has been found to be finished in its original paint, with only the passenger side lip on the rocker panel has been touched up once a very, very long time ago. Of course, there is plenty of patina and stone chips as one would find on a 40-year-old car. Again, thanks to its originality, the documentation of the car is unlike seen on most Stratos’. Accompanied by the original service book, owner’s manual and even the rare roadside assistance brochure. The car is currently fitted with a set of replacement wheels, though the originals accompany car. There are indeed some Stradale Stratos’ known in the world with fewer kilometres on the speedo but most of them have been restored or have even had to be fully rebuilt. Having been held by a total of just five owners in its near 50-year life, this car was bought into the UK and subsequently registered in early 2015 when DK Engineering sourced the car for its current owner and have stored since on their behalf. Since arrival in the UK, the car has been meticulously maintained and serviced frequently with no expense spared. Most notably, in 2018, almost £15,000 was spent on the car ensuring the car was running and maintained as correctly as possible. 1976 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale D.K. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright The Lancia Stratos HF (HF stands for "high fidelity") came to be built as nothing less than a series-built competition car, launched as Lancia's entry in the FIA world rally championship in 1972 and virtually unbeatable until 1975 when it was retired to give the lowly Fiat 131 a chance at competition glory. Other Cars from D.K.
