- 1991 Lancia Hyena Zagato
What is it? It’s a Lancia Hyena – essentially a Delta HF Integrale Evo 1 sporting purposeful fastback coupé bodywork designed by none other than Zagato, the history-steeped design house from Milan. In light of the Delta’s extraordinary success on the world rallying stage, Zagato’s then-designer Marco Pedracini reportedly felt obliged to spice up the hatchback’s styling in a manner more befitting of its sporting prowess. With such a rich heritage, the quintessential Zagato design cues were plentiful. Double-bubble roof, anyone? Is the Hyena’s beauty skin-deep? Absolutely not. Since its inception over 100 years ago, lightness has always been a pillar around which Zagato operates. The Hyena does not stray from the trend. Its sleek, poised and purposeful body is crafted entirely from aluminium. Throw in an interior festooned with carbon-fibre, and you’ve got a dry weight of just 1,150kg – around 200kg lighter than the production Delta HF Integrale Evo 1. Sounds like a recipe for commercial success – was it? Not quite. Zagato suggested to Lancia that 500 Hyenas could be built and sold, but a complicated and expensive build process ultimately put the Fiat Group off and just 24 examples were completed with the assistance of the Dutch Lancia importer Paul Koot. Could you tell us about the early history of this particular Hyena? An English banker after an exciting yet comfortable car in which to travel between his English and Italian residences originally acquired this Hyena, the second of just 24 built. Prior to taking delivery, a number of thoughtful modifications were made to the car with a view to increasing engine power to 300bhp, including installing a gas-flowed cylinder head and a tubular exhaust manifold. “It’s also worth noting that this is the only Lancia Hyena of the 24 produced homologated with the Delta HF Integrale’s original rear seats.” In light of its increased performance and long-distance requirements, cross-drilled brakes were also fitted in addition to a larger 90-litre competition fuel tank (good for a 450-mile range) and an upgraded stereo system. It’s also worth nothing that this is the only Hyena homologated with the Delta’s original rear seats. Number 002 changed hands in October of 2004, the car’s second owner picking up where the first left off and promptly making some changes. Mavcorse Preparazione Sportive in Milan was entrusted with carrying out the work, which included refinishing the Zagato coachwork in the stunning dual-layer shade of black (the original shade of the Delta donor car) and adding a layer of noise-reducing Teknofibra insulation beneath the interior. A French collector acquired this Hyena in 2012, further enhancing the car’s already impressive performance with a Garrett GT28 turbocharger, Koni Yellow sports dampers, real-time engine mapping and an adjustable twin-piston pop-off valve, among others. He retained the car until 2018, which is when we had the privilege of selling it to its current owner United Kingdom-based owner. During his four-year tenure as 002’s owner, he has re-registered the car in the UK and enjoyed using it in the manner in which its former owners clearly intended. The odometer currently reads 26,200km. So, with all these modifications, what’s this Lancia Hyena like to drive? The Hyena has one of those Jekyll-and-Hyde characters – civilised and comfortable, but with the palpable underlying sense that there’s potent performance waiting to be deployed. If the bespoke OMP Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel and swathe of glossy carbon-fibre which surrounds the cosy yet surprisingly airy cabin doesn’t signal the car’s sporting intentions, then a sustained shove on the throttle pedal most definitely will. The turbo boost is urgent and catapults the car forward with astonishing gusto. The Hyena’s crash Zagato diet combined with this example’s increased power output means the power-to-weight ratio is comparable to a 991-generation Porsche 911 Carrera S. It’s no slouch when the going gets twisty, either – the short wheelbase and incredibly direct steering as a result of the sportier Koni dampers make this car a joy to thread through corners, especially medium-speed sweepers. All the while there is nothing to suggest that this wouldn’t make for a perfectly happy long-distance loper – visibility is great, the seats are supple and comfortable, the stereo works a treat and the air-conditioning is not as asthmatic as you’d expect of an Italian sports car of this era. What is there in the way of documentation? A fantastic history file accompanies this Hyena, comprising everything from the car’s factory Certificate of Origin, spare key and original Lancia user manuals to period photos of the car when it was displayed at Zagato’s Milan headquarters and copies of the model’s press correspondence. There is also a wealth of invoices documenting the extensive modifications made to the car and the fastidious maintenance bestowed upon it over the years, right up to the present day. Sell it me in a sentence… The idiosyncratic and ultra-rare Hyena embodies the very best of two Italian automotive history’s greatest names, Lancia and Zagato, and this thoughtfully enhanced example is arguably among the ultimate Delta HF Integrales from a performance driving perspective – a glorious 1990s what-might-have-been. 1991 Lancia Hyena Zagato Girardo & Co. - 1974 Ford Escort 'AVO' MK1 RS 2000
With their Escort doing so well in the world of rallying, it made sense that Ford would try and sell developed versions beyond the usual homologation specials. The job of creating more widely-produced, fast Escorts was left to Ford's new Advanced Vehicle Operations, based in Essex. Following up on the rather complex RS1600 of 1970 came the Mexico and RS2000 which were far more suited to the man in the street. In June 1973, the Mexico was supplanted by the RS2000 and the model fitted nicely into the AVO line up with its performance almost comparable to the RS1600, but with the same reliability and ease of maintenance as the Mexico. Importantly, the RS2000 utilised the same Type-49-body shell as the Mexico and RS1600. The RS2000 was the first Escort to be powered by the overhead cam four-pot, as Ford decided that their 1993cc "Pinto" engine was to be used in the new model. However, Ford faced the problem of persuading the bulky Pinto engine to fit into the engine bay and, the only way of achieving this was to discard the engine-driven cooling fan and replace it with a thermostatically controlled Kenlowe unit. When finally nestled in place, the Pinto engine produced 100bhp and the RS2000 once again proved to be a quick and delightful car to drive, whilst being more accessible to buy and still offering customers a great choice in terms of colours and options. Finished in its original factory hue of Olympic Blue with a grey cloth interior, this fabulous RS2000 is offered fresh from an exacting professional restoration and, with work just completed, it’s clear to see the lengths that have been taken to preserve the original detail with the standard of workmanship being exemplary. No stone has been left unturned with every nut, bolt washer and screw having received attention. The matching-numbers engine and gearbox have been rebuilt by Ridgeway Racing Engines with particular attention to detail as Paul Broadway, the founder of Ridgeway Racing Engines, was the previous custodian having had the Escort in his care for some 27 years. The original Twin 40 DHLA Dell’Orto carbs have been replaced by a pair of 45DCOE Webers on a Simpson stainless-steel manifold with burnt gases exited through a stainless-steel 2.5’’ sports exhaust system. Delve a little deeper and you see the original etched glass still in place, even the original radiator has been retained rather than replaced simply requiring a new core. Similarly, the suspension and braking system have been fully overhauled as required and the car now sits on the correct RS-Ronal 7.5’’x13’’ four-spoke alloys wearing fresh Nankang rubber. The interior has also received the same level of attention with a retrim by Aldridge Trimming and the delicate dashboard veneers carefully refinished. So fresh, in fact, is the build that a period of running-in is strongly recommended to obtain the very best from this spectacular Ford. Your early inspection is welcomed and encouraged to fully appreciate the detail of this RS2000 which is as clean on the underside as it is on top. To find a genuine AVO-built RS2000 is a rare thing, particularly when factory-fitted with the Custom Pack, but to find one in this condition is extraordinary 1974 Ford Escort 'AVO' MK1 RS 2000 Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. When it was produced, it was the most expensive road car produced at a cost of $400,000. Powered by a 2.9liter Twin Turbo V-8 and pumping out 479hp and 426 lb-ft of torque; it propelled the roughly 2,900lb car to 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds with a top speed of 199mph. Approximately 215 U.S. examples were produced. Of the 215 examples, approximately 22 of them were produced in 1992. This is one of the most documented U.S. F40 examples in existence. It has been fastidiously maintained. It was delivered new to Classic Ferrari in Texas. It was in 2 Ferrari collections for a long time in each collection. It had never missed a service interval and has a binder full of records. It has around 8,300 miles and it presents as though it has 1,500 miles. This car was cryogenically cleaned from top to bottom. It has been on the show circuit the past 3 years. It has been Ferrari Classiche certified, it has been shown and judged at the Cavallino Concours where it earned a Platinum and earned “Best Super Car.” This is one of the most complete and documented F40's in existence and has absolutely no stories that accompany it. This is a true, “Investment Grade,” AAA F40 example. - 1972 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV
Penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone, the 105’s clean and distinctive design is one of the most attractive small coupes of the 1960s and 70s. The 2000 GTV was the final incarnation of the original design and benefited from Alfa Romeo’s larger 1932cc twin cam, all-aluminium, four-cylinder 1932cc engine. It produced an impressive 132 bhp along with a good level of useable torque which ensured the cars performance was better than many sports cars of the era. Our example is in its original and attractive colour combination of Amaranto with ‘natural’ interior and was first delivered in May 1972 to London, as confirmed by the Certificate of Origin which accompanies the car. The certificate also confirms the original engine is still with the car. It has spent much of its life in Australia, and we believe it first arrived in Perth before moving to Brisbane in the early 2000’s. From there is has been in the ownership of a number of known ‘Alfisti’ who have kept it in wonderful order. The current owner acquired the car in 2013 and due to the need to thin down his collection he has made the decision to sell one of his Alfa Romeo’s. The car has clearly seen the benefit of much work and expenditure in the past including new paint and mechanical work and still presents extremely well to this day. The body is in excellent all-round condition and the panel gaps are spot on. There are no signs of corrosion in the car and even underneath shows no signs of any previous repairs. It is the best we have seen. All the stainless steel brightwork is in wonderful order and sets the car off beautifully. The period correct Campagnolo alloy wheels are unmarked and are an attractive addition to the car. The interior is just lovely with everything as it should be. An unmarked steering wheel greets you and the dash and dials are something that just looks perfect to the eye. Whilst the seats appear original, they are unmarked and in quite remarkable order as is all the timber veneer, doors handles, winders, carpets and switches. The odometer reads 82,664 miles, and whilst it is difficult to confirm as original, the condition of the interior and engine bay certainly suggests this. The dashboard is perfect with no cracks and the instrument binnacle look spot on with only a little frosting to the rev counter cover, but this is being picky. The headlining is in excellent order with no rips or discolouration. Turn the key and the engine fires up to a familiar Alfa growl. Out on the open road this car is just superb. The gearbox is excellent with no issues with the synchro’s. It is accurate, smooth, and quick to work through the gears and using it is quite addictive. The engine is responsive and pulls extremely well with the 2-litre engine delivering a more spirited drive. Having spoken with 3 of its previous owners they all commented how well this car always performed. This is one well sorted car and a driver’s delight. It begs to be taken out in the hills for a good blast. The engine bay is clean and appealing to the eye. The boot is currently fitted with carpet but a correct rubber replacement can easily be sourced should the next owner wish to bring it back to its original state. The car has just been serviced by an Alfa Romeo specialist who commented how good the car was. These 105’s are great driver’s cars, and we can see why they are so sought after. Freshly restored cars are still fetching well north of $100,000 and this car represents good buying. This exceptional 2000 GTV is serviced, on the button and ready to be enjoyed by its next owner. 1972 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV Сlassic Сar Market If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1959 BMW 507 Roadster Series II
From 1956 to 1959, a total of 252 BMW 507s were produced. BMW presented the Type 507 at the IAA 1955. With a price of almost DM 30,000, the car was almost as expensive as a Mercedes 300 SL, which was only offered as a roadster from 1957. This meant that it was only affordable for extremely well-heeled customers, which also led to an extremely low production figure of just 252 vehicles. The body was designed by industrial designer Albrecht Graf Goertz. The body was made of aluminium. Today, the 507 is considered a design icon and is a highly sought-after collector’s item. The vehicle presented here is one of the last examples built and, according to the BMW certificate and original registration document (“Pappdeckelbrief”), it was delivered to its first owner in Frankfurt in 1959 in the colour featherwhite. The vehicle was delivered from the factory with disc brakes and central locking wheels. The current owner acquired the car in July 1973. Around 25 years ago, the vehicle was completely restored by the renowned BMW 507 specialist Erwin Brummer through the mediation of BMW AG in accordance with the documentation provided. In addition to the complete documentation, it is particularly remarkable that this example is one of the few BMW 507s still in existence that is still completely original in all its components, including the engine. A comprehensive expertise by a renowned expert is available. This is an opportunity not to be missed and a must-have for any important collection. - 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda 1
The elegant styling and undeniable appeal of the Mercedes-Benz 230 SL “Pagoda” made the German two-seater popular at the time of its first availability in the 1960s. Its long-lasting charm has sustained demand as a coveted collector car since then. The 230 SL debuted in 1963 and would be steadily improved upon, first with the 250 SL in late 1966, with displacement of its inline six-cylinder engine enlarged from 2.3 to 2.5 liters, followed a year later by the final iteration on the W113 chassis, the 280 SL, with displacement further increased to 2.8 liters. Production lasted until 1971 but its appeal with collectors and enthusiasts persists to this day, particularly with beautifully presented examples such as the one offered here. This early Signal Red over black vinyl 280 SL is a US-market car that was equipped new with the coveted optional “Pagoda” hardtop in matching Signal Red. Other factory features include single seats, power steering, a floor-shift automatic transmission, front and rear bumper guards, instrumentation in miles, a driver-side outside mirror, a Becker Europa radio, and whitewall tires. While manual examples are rarer, many collectors, including the consignor, feel that an automatic transmission is more fitting to the nature of the 280 SL. Over the past two decades, this lovely "Pagoda" has remained within the cherished ownership of the same family. While under their care it has been enjoyed on a regular basis and benefited from continual routine maintenance. Additionally, an aftermarket air-conditioning system has been added to improve the car’s specification to its most ideal open-touring configuration. As presented, this 280 SL indicated fewer than 76,000 actual miles at the time of cataloguing. A timeless classic that has only become more desirable as the years have passed, this attractive 280 SL is a delightful and approachable example of this storied model. 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright The elegant styling and undeniable appeal of the Mercedes-Benz 230 SL “Pagoda” made the German two-seater popular at the time of its first availability in the 1960s. - 1975 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 'Daytona' Spider Conversion
This example was supplied new as a RHD coupe by Maranello Concessionaires to Mr W.J.’Billy’ Skelly of Motherwell. With his father running a Ford, Morris and Lea-Francis dealership in Motherwell, and a student upbringing building race specials with help from Norman Dewis and Ken Wharton, he was no stranger to competition. No doubt inspired by his motorsport endeavours, Mr Bealey of Maranello Concessionaires noted Skelly’s request for ‘Bugatti Blue’ on the Daytona to succeed his GTC of the time. ‘Bugatti Blue’ would be granted in the form of Azzurro Dino, with the interior in tan and factory fitted air-conditioning. On a trip to Monaco in June 1973, Billy saw a freshly arrived Daytona in the local Ferrari dealership. Upon his return, he wrote once more to Maranello Concessionaires to request they leave the plastic coverings on the sills as they were prone to damage. He further noted the request for ‘transparent side light glass for the car’ as he was concerned they would look odd in yellow with the car ‘almost Royal blue’ in colour. Mr Skelly retained the Daytona for a year and shortly after that it would end up in the care of Mr Gordon Claridge of Berkhamstead. Claridge was known for his Ferraris, each wearing a cherished registration mark beginning ‘PAR’ and for his unusual colour choices. Claridge had previously owned a 275 GTB/4, new to the UK in Nocciola, a warm metallic caramelised hazelnut shade. With this Daytona still resplendent in its Azzurro Dino hue and now with gold wheels to match the P-Series cars of the time; Claridge would retain the Daytona for 20 years. The Daytona was used as he did all of his Ferraris; on longer trips to his residence in Cornwall. Ensuring each of his cars were kept in fine fettle, the Daytona was exclusively serviced by Maranello Concessionaires during his ownership. He finally sold the car in 1994 with 40,000 miles through Coys of Kensington. The car’s second owner, a prominent Ferrari collector, purchased the Daytona from a Bonhams auction, the catalogue highlighting the Azzurro Dino hue. The car was kept the car within his UK based stable and meticulous servicing continued with Maranello Concessionaires. When the car was sold, once more through a Bonhams auction, the new owner refinished the Daytona in the period shade of Rosso Rubino. This Daytona was purchased by its current custodian in 2001. Shortly after purchase, the 365 was entrusted into the capable hands of Kevin O’Rourke of Mototechnique. Renowned for their work on Ferrari’s of all levels, the Daytona was subjected to a total restoration, and at that time, a conversion to 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spyder configuration. With the car taken down to bare metal, the car was refinished in the iconic Rosso Corsa coachwork it presents with today. Accompanied by a comprehensive history folio, this Daytona spider presents superbly as an eminently usable proposition and is available to view at our showrooms outside London immediately. 1975 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 'Daytona' Spider Conversion D.K. - 1976 Porsche 930 Turbo
This 1976 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera was initially ordered for pickup in Germany via the Tourist Delivery Program, and it was specified in Light Yellow over Cinnamon leather. It is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six linked with a four-speed manual transaxle, and additional equipment includes 15? Fuchs-style alloy wheels, a sunroof, a rear spoiler, a radio blanking plate, cassette-tape storage, power windows, and air conditioning. The current owner purchased the car approximately eight years ago, and it has subsequently been registered in Wisconsin. The car is finished in Light Yellow (L117) and features a sunroof, headlight washers, dual side mirrors, rear fender stone guards, rear bumperettes, a front spoiler, “Turbo” rear badging, and a rear spoiler. The selling dealer notes evidence of paintwork, and the fog lights and rear-window wiper do not work. Staggered-width 15? Fuchs-style alloy wheels are mounted with Pirelli Cinturato P7 N5 tires. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel ventilated discs. The cabin features seating surfaces upholstered in Cinnamon leather along with a color-coordinated dashboard and door panels. Interior features include power windows and air conditioning. The center console houses a cassette-tape storage console, although the car is equipped with a blanking plate in place of a head unit. The three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 180-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,700-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for oil level, oil pressure, oil temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 34k miles. The turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six was factory rated at 245 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. The seller states that the car cannot pass a California emissions test, therefore it cannot be sold to an in-state private party buyer. The Wisconsin title states “This is a replacement title” in the Additional Vehicle Detail section. 1976 Porsche 930 Turbo Mohr Imports, Inc. - 1980 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4
Introduced at the 1973 Paris Motor Show, the Dino 308 GT4 was a significant departure for Ferrari in several ways. It was the first production car from Modena to feature a mid-engined V8, a layout that would become common to their core range for decades to come, along with the first production model to feature Bertone styling rather than Pininfarina bodywork. The chassis was based on the Dino 246 but was stretched to make space for a 2+2 configuration and the 3.0-litre V8 was integrally joined with the gearbox and featured an alloy block and heads with dual overhead camshafts fed through four Weber 40 DCNF carburettors. The styling was controversial at the time, with some journalists comparing it to the Bertone-designed Lancia Stratos and Lamborghini Urraco, and the proportions gave traditionalists an attack of the vapours but, as is often the way, Bertone's styling effort probably looks better now than it ever has. For all this, the car was a huge success being bigger and more usable than any other mid-engine car had managed or would manage for a while. More than 3,600 were sold, dwarfing sales of V12 models and showing Ferrari the way forward. Today, these '70s Ferraris have come of age with their classic looks and brilliant handling and are as fast as you are ever going to need in the real world, with a top speed of over 150mph and 0-60mph in 6.4 seconds. Chris Rea, the singer, songwriter, and musician has an enduring passion for Ferrari with many finding their way through his hands over the years, however, one particular model has been a constant within his stable, that being the Dino GT4 appearing in many guises, from out and out race versions which have been spiritedly campaigned by him over the years through to superb road-going examples such as this particular steed, the latest to have received the Rea touch. Purchased some years ago in need of a little TLC, the decision was taken to entrust Ferrari specialists QV of London, with whom Chris has a longstanding relationship, to fully recommission his latest acquisition to ensure longevity and reliability wherever possible. As is often the case, the timescale to complete the restoration became elongated as the list of desired works steadily increased, resulting in the bodywork being refinished, the engine being fully rebuilt and enhanced, the interior being fully refreshed and the running gear totally overhauled. Looking deeper into the schedule of recommissioning and the associated invoices, it's noted that the engine now has fully balanced internals including the high-compression pistons and polished crank, the running gear was totally removed and stripped prior to being totally overhauled, re-bushed and powder coated as required but not before the decision was taken to fit uprated springs and dampers, new brake calipers - front and rear, stainless brake hoses, a new steering rack and much more. The 308 GT4 is one of the few small Ferraris that suit a two-tone colour scheme, Chris' own Ferrari Pirelli Challenge car was red and gold, but in this case he chose to finish it in (we understand) a very stylish Grigio Ferro over Blu Dino Scurro. The Bordeaux Red seating and carpets present beautifully and the refurbished Cromodora alloys are as you would expect from a quality recommission. Unusually, it's one of the very rare cars with 'factory' rear seats 'delete' which may seem strange as the GT4's raison d'etre was the extra seating, however, luggage space in the 308GTB was minimal so as a 'touring' car it made sense. With the recent in depth recommissioning, Ferrari aficionado ownership, celebrity provenance and magazine featured, this is one GT4 that will enhance any Prancing Horse collection and is ready to be enjoyed as intended when it rolled off the production line almost 45 years ago.. It should also be noted that so fresh is the build that a period of running in is still required. Your early inspection is welcomed and encouraged to fully appreciate the opportunity on offer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright Introduced at the 1973 Paris Motor Show, the Dino 308 GT4 was a significant departure for Ferrari in several ways.
