The Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary Sandro Munari and Horacio Pagani. To appreciate the lengths Lamborghini went to ensure the car with which it would mark its 25th anniversary was truly worthy, you only needed a glance at the two names drafted in to help develop it. In truth, when Chrysler assumed control of Lamborghini in the 1980s, it had rather hoped that the new Diablo would be ready in time for the marque’s landmark birthday. Alas, it wasn’t to be, so focus instead turned to the trusty Countach, Lamborghini’s wedge-tastic flagship since 1974. That the resulting Countach 25th Anniversary, of which 667 were produced, evolved from Gandini’s minimal LP400 is remarkable. The liberal addition of era-defining (and functional) strakes and select carbon-fibre bits and pieces were the work of a young Horacio Pagani, who’d been recruited to head Lamborghini’s exciting new composites division. Furthermore, the 1977 World Rally Champion Sandro Munari was brought in to hone the suspension. And it’s fair to say the Italian knew a thing or to about road-holding and balance. Combined with a plethora of comfort- and refinement-based upgrades implemented to overcome some of the Countach’s established foibles, the 25th Anniversary is the best Countach to drive and enjoy. Chassis number 12031 The distinction of the left-hand-drive Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary we’re thrilled to be offering is that it’s covered a mere 1,719 kilometres from new and, as a result, is presented in the most remarkably original condition. Finished in Rosso over a Nero interior, chassis number 12031 was originally ordered in June of 1990 by Portman Lamborghini in the United Kingdom, which in turn found the car its first owner in Japan. Said owner cherished this Countach from 1990 until 2015, at which point it returned to Europe. This Lamborghini was acquired by its third and current custodian in 2017, when the mileage was noted as a mere 671 kilometres. In the nine years since then, he’s added only a further 1,100 kilometres to the odometer and had the car maintained accordingly, including a thorough mechanical refresh in 2018 totalling more than £18,000. Most recently, in the spring of this year, Bob Houghton Ltd. carried out a major service, during which the door and boot struts were renewed and the engine and gearbox oil were replaced. The cost totalled over £2,500. Given the minimal mileage and careful storage of this Countach, it’s by far the best condition example we’ve yet encountered. Overall, the car’s immaculate, the Rosso paintwork retaining its depth and allure and the Nero leather interior boasting the subtle sheen of gentle use. The carbon-lidded engine bay is particularly clean and tidy, barely exhibiting any signs of use. We were perhaps most surprised by how well chassis number 12031 drives – not something than can be said for most older cars with such minimal use under their belts. Having never been restored, this Countach feels beautifully run in. While positive, the gearbox is not stiff, the air-conditioning is fantastic and that V12 is responsive and genuinely strong, propelling the car with impressive shove. The 25th Anniversary might have been a commercial stop-gap until the arrival of the Diablo and, in turn, heralded a new era for the Raging Bull. But it was proudly, defiantly Lamborghini and a fitting end for a supercar which has captured the imagination of so many people for so many years. The eleventh M1 built by BMW, this car was not allocated to an eager customer when new, but was retained by BMW’s Press Department instead. Completed on 30 October 1978, the car was finished by Baur on 21 December and would finally be in the hands of the press department by 5 January 1979. Five days later, it was road registered in Germany as part of their press fleet. This would be some two months prior to the first customer M1 being delivered, giving the world’s motoring journalist early access to what was undoubtably the most exciting BMW built in decades. Just three M1s were retained by press use, and the car offered here, bearing chassis number 4301011 is the only press car originally finished in blue. Only 59 M1s would be painted that colour out of the entirety of production. The car’s press use is verified by an accompanying BMW Classic Certificate, and additional commentary from the BMW M1 Club and BMW M1 Registry. It is understood that during its press duties, this car wore two different numberplates in period articles: “MAW 3064” and “MTT 8459”. Furthermore, it is believed that this car was used in the brochure for the model as well. By 1981, the M1’s time with BMW’s Press Department had come to an end and the car was imported to California and was federalized for road use. Amazingly, it would remain with the same Californian owner until 2013. Three years later, the car would return to its native Germany with a subsequent owner where it remained on display in his prominent private collection. With that owner, the car was sent to the BMW specialists at Oldenzaal Classic in the Netherlands where an extensive mechanical restoration was commissioned. Approximately 450 hours of labor saw the M1 returned to fantastic conditions both inside and out. Notable line items furnished by Oldenzaal include complete rebuilds of its engine, transmission, differential, water pump, starter motor, alternator, and Kugelfischer fuel injection pump. Additionally, new bushings were installed throughout the car’s suspension, four new Pirelli tires were fitted, and numerous interior details were also remedied in pursuit of ideal and period-correct presentation. Returning to California with a subsequent owner, the M1 was acquired by the consignor via RM Sotheby’s and imported to the Netherlands, where it resides today. The very first BMW to be designed entirely under the purview of BMW’s Motorsport division, the M1 is a highly significant model within the company’s rich history. For many, it would have been this very car that introduced them to the model. Based on the 964 Carrera Cup race car, it featured an upgraded engine with twin-plug ignition, a 3.6L flat six engine with 260 horsepower, 345 pounds removed from the stock car, along with short-ratio gearing, a limited slip differential, revised suspension and a lightweight interior. Excitement for the car was immediate, and while the rest of the world was able to enjoy the lightened 964, the United States was relegated to the later (and heavier) 964 RS America, a whopping 264 pounds heavier than the European 964 Carrera RS. Those lucky enough to experience the lighter Carrera RS knew there was little to compare to. This 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera RS was ordered new and was destined for the Italian market, designated by its underhood sticker code “C07.” A special hue of yellow was chosen for the car, a paint-to-sample option indicated by “L998” on its underhood sticker, Lemon Yellow. One of 1,910 examples built in lightweight configuration, this included factory Recaro Pole Position seats trimmed in leather, manual windows, reduced sound deadening, lightweight door panels, and more. It was imported by Porsche Soveco of Bologna, Italy and was delivered on June 5th, 1992. Over the course of 10 years the Carrera RS returned to Soveco twice for vehicle maintenance, indicated by the dealer stamps in the maintenance booklet. The car returned on April 14th, 1999 with 6,740 miles (10,847km) and on October 22nd, 2002 with 7,794 miles (12,543km). The Carrera RS would eventually make its way back to its home country of Germany, where it would remain with the same owner over the course of 5+ years. According to service documents and dealership stamps inside of the RS’s maintenance booklet, during this time the RS was serviced at Knubel GmbH & Co., located in Munster, Germany, where it would have brake fluid replacement on November 19th, 2013 at 12,354 miles (19,882km), and brake fluid, an oil change, and general service on February 6th, 2018 with 12,421 miles (19,989km). Shortly after the final service in 2018 the Carrera RS was imported into Canada where the car would remain and be serviced by Pfaff Tuning in Woodbridge, Ontario. Once the Carrera RS arrived at Canepa, the car was entered into the “Canepa Difference” process, a comprehensive and complete mechanical and cosmetic inspection process, ultimately leading to a concours-level recommissioning of the 964 RS. First the car was put through detailing that included removing the engine to detail it, hand washing the underside of the car, along with a multi-step foam pad polish of the paint-to-sample Lemon Yellow paint. The interior was given the same level of detail, ensuring that all surfaces were properly cleaned and prepared. While the engine was out, Canepa technicians installed new engine heat insulation, recoated the exhaust, replaced shock boots, bump stops, and completed a corner weighting of the car during alignment. Once complete, the car was thoroughly inspected by Canepa’s technicians and given a clean bill of health. Lastly, test drives determined that the RS was dialed in and was ready for its next caretaker. Now prepared and presented, this 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera RS is one of the ultimate aircooled lightweight cars. With exceptional handling, a true goal of lightweighting perfected by Porsche, and with only 12,890 (20,745km) original miles, this fantastic example is ready to join a caretaker’s collection and is prepared for many miles ahead. About the 964 Carrera RS In 1992, Porsche produced a super-lightweight, rear-wheel-drive only version of the 964 dubbed Carrera RS for the European market. It was based on Porsche's 911 Carrera Cup race car and harked back to the 2.7 and 3.0 RS and RSR models. It featured a revised version of the standard engine, titled M64/03 internally, with an increased power output of 260 bhp (194 kW; 264 PS) and lightweight flywheel coupled to the G50/10 transmission with closer ratios, asymmetrical Limited Slip Differential and steel synchromesh. It had a track-oriented suspension system with a 40 mm (1.6 in) lower ride height, stiffer springs, shocks and adjustable stabilizer bars without power steering. A stripped-out interior was devoid of power windows or seats, rear seats, air conditioning, cruise control, sound deadening or a stereo system (optionally fitted) and new racing-bucket front seats were part of the package. The trunk hood was made of aluminum, the chassis was seam welded and sound deadening was deleted. Wheels were made of magnesium and the glass was thinner in the doors and rear window. The Carrera RS is 2689 lbs, which is approximately 345 pounds lighter than the US version Carrera 2 model. The Carrera RS was not sold in the United States because Porsche Cars North America felt the car's aggressive tuning was not suited to the American market. The Giulietta, introduced in April 1954, proved to be one of the most successful Alfa Romeo models of all time. With the very rev-happy 1.3 litre 4-cylinder engine, in connection with a splendid chassis, the little Italian proved to be one of the sportiest cars of its time, irrespective of whether it had been delivered as a limousine, coupé or cabriolet. The coupé offered stems from the much sought-after first series, called 750B, and was ordered at the Turin salon by Garage Jan rue de Maupas in Lausanne. On the 19th of June 1957, the car was formerly imported into Switzerland through Chiasso. In 1964 the pretty coupé was taken over by the vendor who is a member of the Ecurie de la Côte in Morges and he entered the Alfa in various hill climbs and rallies over the next two years. From 1966, after taking over the family business, all racing activities stopped and in 1971 the pretty Giulietta was dry-stored with the intention of restoring it (or her!) at a future date. In 1995 that day finally arrived and the Giulietta was completely disassembled in the family garage, and, over the next 10 years completely restored and overhauled. The matching-numbers original engine received an overhaul and the coachwork was taken back to bare-metal and repainted in its original colour. The interior was equipped with new upholstery and carpets. On the 27th of September 2005, the Alfa Romeo was finally MOT’d as a Veteran. Since then, the Alfa has covered only around 8’000 kilometres and consequently still present itself in a very good overall condition. With the very rev-happy 1.3 litre 4-cylinder engine, in connection with a splendid chassis, the little Italian proved to be one of the sportiest cars of its time, irrespective of whether it had been delivered as a limousine, coupé or cabriolet. The coupé offered stems from the much sought-after first series, called 750B, and was ordered at the Turin salon by Garage Jan rue de Maupas in Lausanne. On the 19th of June 1957, the car was formerly imported into Switzerland through Chiasso. In 1964 the pretty coupé was taken over by the vendor who is a member of the Ecurie de la Côte in Morges and he entered the Alfa in various hill climbs and rallies over the next two years. From 1966, after taking over the family business, all racing activities stopped and in 1971 the pretty Giulietta was dry-stored with the intention of restoring it (or her!) at a future date. In 1995 that day finally arrived and the Giulietta was completely disassembled in the family garage, and, over the next 10 years completely restored and overhauled. The matching-numbers original engine received an overhaul and the coachwork was taken back to bare-metal and repainted in its original colour. The interior was equipped with new upholstery and carpets. On the 27th of September 2005, the Alfa Romeo was finally MOT’d as a Veteran. Since then, the Alfa has covered only around 8’000 kilometres and consequently still present itself in a very good overall condition. This rare coupé - only 2’115 examples were built in 1957 - with only two owners and now 52’000 kilometres driven, will be handed over to the next Alfisto with the most recent Veteran MOT from September 2024. Paris Motor Show, 1973. After 20 years of exclusive collaboration with Pininfarina, Ferrari unveiled the Dino 308 GT4, a model equipped with a V8 engine imagined by Bertone. In his Turin workshop, Maestro Marcello Gandini accomplished a real feat: designing an attractive 2+2 with a rear mid-engine in a body just over 4.30 meters long. The Dino 308 GT4 was the first completely new Ferrari model since Fiat took control of the Maranello production vehicle department in 1969. The successor to the 246 GT, it was presented at the 1973 Paris Motor Show. The 308 GT4 inaugurated a three-liter V8 (a return to the displacement of the 250 GT), which would be carried over to the 308 GTB. Unlike the V6 of the Dino 246, which was produced at Fiat, the 308's engine was made in Maranello. The four overhead camshafts are driven by two toothed belts, as on the 12-cylinder boxer engine. Mounted transversely in the center of the car, this engine (with wet sump) forms a unit with the gearbox and the self-locking differential. Fed by four Weber twin-barrel carburetors, it develops 250 bhp at 7,700 rpm, with the torque remaining at the same level. Another singularity, and not the least, is that the 308 GT4 is a 2+2. A daring concept and a risky aesthetic gamble! How do you fit four seats in a small car with a central rear engine without creating an ugly duckling? Pininfarina, Ferrari's resident designer since 1953, was hardly enthusiastic about the specifications. Nor was he tempted to take risks. So Bertone took the plunge! And we can only congratulate the coachbuilder from Turin, who acquitted himself remarkably well. Especially as the car is only ten centimeters longer than the Dino 246. Quite a feat! According to Bertone, who had designed the Fiat Dino coupé, the collaboration with Ferrari came about at Fiat's suggestion. The car's slimline front end features a plunging bonnet and retractable headlamps, while a large rectangular air intake is positioned under the slim radiator grille. Beyond a very flat roof, a sleek stern ends in a reduced overhang. The rear window is set between long quarter-pillars to accommodate two hatches, one for the engine and the other for the luggage compartment. To accommodate two passengers in the rear, the 308 GT4's driving position has been moved forward and its wheelbase extended to 2.55 metres. The multi-tube chassis and suspension were inherited from the 246. When production of the 246 GT/GTS ended in 1974, the 308 GT4 was the last model in the Dino range. It was also the only model that American Ferrari dealers could offer their customers, as the 365 GT4BB and 365 GT4 2+2 models were not homologated for that market. So the only ‘Ferrari’ they sell doesn't even carry a Ferrari badge, and to make matters worse, its performance is muzzled by emissions control equipment. This didn't help sales, so in mid-1975 the factory asked US dealers to install Ferrari badges on stock cars. Vehicles that had not yet left the factory were fitted with Ferrari badges, with the Dino only appearing on the boot. As a result, some vehicles on the American market bore both Ferrari and Dino badges. In 1975, Ferrari launched the 208 GT4, a version reserved exclusively for the Italian market and reduced to two liters for tax reasons (reduced VAT). Power was increased to 170 bhp and the top speed was limited to 200 km/h. Externally, the only difference between the car and the 308 was the absence of fog lamps in the radiator grille and a single tailpipe. Although Ferrari entrusted the design of the 308 GTB - presented in 1975 and produced alongside the 308 GT4 - to Pininfarina, Bertone offered a spider based on the 308 GT4 at the 1976 Turin Motor Show. Called the Rainbow, this strict two-seater with a wheelbase ten centimeters shorter could have been the model missing from the Ferrari range since the withdrawal of the 246 GTS. The Rainbow is an interesting exercise, very much in the style of the Bertone bodywork of the time. Ultra-modern, the sharp design uses only straight lines and sharp angles (the wedge-shaped line inherited from the Carabo and Marcello Gandini's Stratos), a bias that is even reflected in the design of the wheels! What's more, this concept car features an ingenious device: a hard top positioned behind the seats transforms the car into a coupé-spider, simply by being tilted into the closed position by the driver using a simple control. The Dino brand came to an end in 1976, when the prancing horse replaced the Dino logo on the 308 GT4, which now bore the Ferrari badge. At the same time, the car received a number of detailed modifications to the radiator grille and passenger compartment. In order to comply with anti-pollution and safety standards, the American version of the 308 GT4 was disfigured by unsightly retractable bumpers, while power was cut by around 10%. This loss, combined with a significant weight gain, put a damper on performance... and sales! In Europe, the commercial fortunes of the 308 GT4 also followed a downward curve, and production of the car was discontinued in 1980.Built between 1974 and 1980, 2,826 examples of the 308 GT4 and 840 of the 208 GT4 were produced, a figure considerably higher than that of the Dino 246 GT. Although the 308 GT4 was not particularly designed for competition, it nevertheless enjoyed the hot atmosphere of the racetrack. It owes this singular adventure to the intrepid Luigi Chinetti, who entered one of the first cars to leave the factory in the 1974 Le Mans 24 Hours. In addition to a tuned engine, the NART 308 GT4 was fitted with aluminum or fiberglass body panels and Plexiglas windows, a spoiler, a huge rear overhang spoiler and Speedline wheels. The car retired at the end of the fourth hour due to a broken driveshaft. Our Dino 308GT4 was delivered in July 1976 by Ferrari agent Daverat in Bayonne. All of its owners are known, as is its mileage, as confirmed by its maintenance booklet and all of the copies of the registration documents and roadworthiness tests on file. General History Alfa Romeo, Italian masters of automobile manufacturing, were not always prolific producers of production sports cars. Prior to the Giulia and Giulietta, Alfas were grand, handmade vehicles involving detailed labor and complex fabrication. All this changed when these two brilliantly engineered cars entered the market. With relatively low entry costs, attractive styling, and delightful driving manners, Alfa Romeo secured a promising position in the growing postwar world car market. The Giulia and Giulietta were small, sporty, and charming, yet finely trimmed, giving an air of sophistication young men and women appreciated during prosperous post war years. Both models enjoyed success, with strong sales in Europe and North America, due in part to growing interest in small sporty cars. Among the most desired of these cars were the Veloce equipped Spiders. Initially the 1300cc twin cam in-line four-cylinder engine featured twin Weber carburetors, higher compression ratio, and spirited cam profiles, resulting in improved overall performance. By 1962 the engine was upgraded to 1600, improving both performance and reliability in the new smoother running engine. The Pininfarina bodied Spider would remain in production until 1966, a testimony to the advanced design and sporty styling. These features continue to be highly regarded by collectors and enthusiasts, particularly so for factory original 1965 Spider Veloce models as approximately 1,000 were built in this series with the final improvements reflected in 1965, the last year of this series. General Overview According to correspondence from Macro Fazio, Centro Documentzione Alfa, this 1600 Veloce was built March 30th, 1965, and sold April 1st to Alfa Romeo, Inc., Newark, USA. The factory colors are noted as red with black interior. Though not much is known about the early years of ownership, the prior owner commissioned a comprehensive three-year restoration which was completed in 2016. During the restoration, the process was documented with photos showing the car fully disassembled, stripped to bare metal, rotisserie mounted, red oxide primer and black finish applied to the chassis surfaces, the engine fully disassembled and rebuilt, and all other components from the suspension, brakes, gearbox, and fully reupholstered interior, refinished to a high standard. The current owner purchased this Alfa in 2016 shortly after the restoration was completed. During his decade of ownership, the car has been regularly maintained and serviced as needed. Copies of receipts included with the car document services performed under current ownership dating back to 2016 (88k miles indicated in 2016) while the car was located in Southern California. Services from 2016 include installing a new windshield, new seat belt, driver’s side mirror, gearbox synchro work, 5 new Vredestein 155 SR15 tires and four wheel alignment, along with brake and carburetor work. In 2017 services continued including a tune up and fluid changes, engine cleaning, detailing, and bolt torquing, Pertronix ignition installed, and road testing for various diagnostics. In 2018, an annual fluid service was performed, window regulators repaired, new fuel lines installed, transmission work performed including a new input shaft seal, a new hood insulation blanket installed, oil pan gasket replaced, electrical serviced including new headlight switch and blower switch, and a new fuel pump was installed. In 2019, the car was given an annual fluid change, and the rear brake axle and assembly were removed and serviced including new differential gear oil and reseal. In 2021, a major service was performed including valve adjustment, front brake resurfacing for rotors, and carb cleaning. In 2024, the carburetors were serviced, including new floats, jet cleaning etc. new fuel filter, and a new Bosch ignitor was installed. In 2025, the rear brakes were adjusted, new rear brake wheel cylinders installed, and gauges tested and serviced. General Condition Today this Veloce Spider presents in excellent condition throughout including glossy red paint that has been very well maintained with excellent coverage and a smooth, glossy finish. The exterior trim is in excellent condition overall including a very nice Alfa Romeo branded central grille flanked by front bumpers with correct fitting side openings and trim. Unlike many Spiders of this era the chrome bumpers are properly positioned, parallel to the grille openings with excellent fit and finish. A pair of correct Carello stamped chrome headlight trim rings and correct spiral domed turn indicators are just a few fine details that show the care and detail afforded during restoration. The hood features a raised profile hood scoop which was updated in the last two years of production to allow more room for the improved engine. Continuing the cosmetic appearance of the car, the lighting, bumpers, and various trim and script are also in excellent condition. The body panel gaps are consistent showing very good closures and tight fit, including both doors which show excellent part lines and tight closure. The windshield and side glass are in excellent condition with smooth operation to the side glass when raised and lowered. Outfitted with correct silver painted steel wheels with polished wheel covers, the wheels are shod with a set of Vredestein Sprint Classic 155 SR15 tires installed in 2016. The interior is just as impressive as the exterior featuring beautifully trimmed black bucket seats with authentic appearance to the materials, foam padding, correct seat pleating, and a pair of matching seat belts. The door panels and side panels are like new with excellent quality to the finishes while the carpeting and Alfa Romeo embossed black rubber mats are also essentially like new. The dashboard is gorgeous and beautifully detailed, featuring crystal clear instruments with excellent color and contrast to the dial faces and glass covers. The black dash padding is also like new and a correct Blaupunkt AM/FM push button radio is installed. The black canvas convertible top appears new, here too with excellent fit and finish, new rubber, and a soft clear plastic window. The trunk is reflective of the same level of restoration excellence exhibited throughout the car, clean and well-maintained, retaining a matching silver finished steel wheel, matching red inner surface, a factory jack with correct strapped buckle hold downs, and a correct Alfa Romeo embossed rubber floor mat. The battery, dated March 2024, is installed in the trunk. Under the hood, the engine bay offers correct presentation reflective of original specifications including a correct diamond-tufted silver hood insulation pad and an Alfa Romeo specifications plate. Nicely detailed and worthy of Alfa Romeo club concours presentation, the 1,600cc twin cam engine is correctly restored including twin dual throat side draft 48 Weber carburetors, a correct cast alloy airbox, and a correctly finished alloy twin cam cover. Additional details include a blue washer fluid bag, correct hoses and clamps, proper ignition wires, and correct firewall stampings, engine decals, and proper finishes to the various engine components. The undercarriage completes the high quality restoration, offering excellent finishes including correct alloy engine and gearbox castings, a Facet electric fuel pump, correct axle limit straps on the rear axle, correctly finished suspension and brake components, and recently replaced IMA Italian made exhaust from the header to the chrome exhaust finisher tip. The car starts, stops, runs, and drives very capably as evidenced in the driving video shown in the gallery. Brakes and suspension are very well balanced, and the car has a great gearbox with excellent synchros having benefited from more recent service. Driving manners are among the best we’ve seen in a Spider Veloce particularly so with the extra power offered with the 1,600cc engine in the final two years of production. This example is very well prepared, has great steering and brakes, and delivers wonderful sounds from the twin cam engine. The car starts, stops, runs, and drives very capably as evidenced in the driving video shown in the gallery. Brakes and suspension are very well balanced, and the car has a great gearbox with excellent synchros having benefited from more recent service. Driving manners are among the best we’ve seen in a Spider Veloce particularly so with the extra power offered with the 1,600cc engine in the final two years of production. This example is very well prepared, has great steering and brakes, and delivers wonderful sounds from the twin cam engine. The Ferrari GTB/GTS Turbo Intercooler is a car created in 1986 and derived from the Ferrari 208 Turbo. The car in fact took the same engine but its turbine was changed from KKK to IHI with Intercooler. The body, on the other hand, was the same as the Ferrari 328, with slight modifications such as the addition of the two NACA sockets on the sides. The car thus came to have 254hp and the exact same performance as the better equipped 328. From 1988 ABS was added, and in 1989 production of the model ceased. This car is in excellent condition, in the very rare black color, of which only an estimated 30 or so were produced in total. The bodywork is largely first paint and has no defects of any kind. The interior is its original, well preserved. Although this type of seat suffers a lot from wear over time, these are still very nice and have retained the right stiffness without ever tearing or peeling. In addition, the beige color, mixed with the black body, creates a really nice and refined color combination. The car has always been serviced at Ferrari workshops, for all of its 49,000km. The last one was just performed with distribution included. All the various booklets are present including the services booklet, the original document holder, double keys, tools, and the original night operation light. It is very rare for these cars to have such a complete set of equipment.
