Body Colour Graphite Grey

On offer from the 'Fosse Way' collection. A rare, right-hand drive, automatic 1972 Ghibli finished in Graphite Grey with Tobacco hide, showing just 10,898 miles and accompanied by an impressive history file detailing work by McGrath Maserati and the Project Shop. The Fosse Way Collection comprises nine rare and eclectic motor cars, thoughtfully chosen and carefully maintained by a respected private collector, and each now offered with considerable recent investment. There is certainly no disputing the Ghibli's tremendous impact -by any standard it was the most memorable Maserati of its time and, nearly six decades after its late-1966 debut, many would argue it still is. It was penned by a young Giorgetto Giugiaro during his time as Head of Design at Ghia with lines that flow seamlessly from nose to tail, a remarkably low bonnet line and perfect proportions, creating a 'grand tourer' of classical beauty. Beneath the skin, the Ghibli shared its tubular chassis and running gear with the Quattroporte and Mexico, albeit on a shortened wheelbase, with disc brakes all round. Power was provided by a 4,719cc quad-cam V8 fed by four Weber carburettors and producing 306bhp. A ZF five-speed manual gearbox was standard, with an automatic gearbox available to special order. Just 1,274 Ghiblis were built before the Khamsin took over in 1973. This, rare right-hand drive example, is one of those special-order automatics. It's also fitted with air conditioning and finished in the stunning combination of Graphite Grey with Tobacco hide. Purchased new in the UK, it soon moved with its original owner to Jersey, where it spent most of its life, maintained by Le Riche, hence its remarkably low mileage. Our vendor acquired the car over 15 years ago from the original owner's son. The history file is impressive and includes details of an engine rebuild by McGrath Maserati and a comprehensive photographic record of the car's body restoration, while the interior leatherwork was carried out by ex-Aston Martin craftsmen. Between September 2019 and March 2021, the Project Shop in Bicester completed a programme of improvements costing around £15,000, based on a detailed report from McGrath Maserati, who also supplied the parts, and covered the steering, suspension, brakes, electrics, back axle and prop-shaft. More recently, in 2024, over £1,500 was spent with AJ Rust Protection Services on a full rust removal and protection treatment, ensuring the Ghibli is well preserved for the future. Full details are on file for interested parties to view. Showing just 10,898 miles and accompanied by the aforementioned history file, this is a wonderful example of Italian exotica. Iconic Auctioneers are very proud to offer it, and we welcome any inspection. A rare, right-hand drive, automatic 1972 Ghibli in Graphite Grey with Tobacco hide, with an impressive history file and recent preservation work, ready for its next owner to enjoy.
