Engine No. AM115/S 1233

One of circa only 80 examples of the Ghibli Spyder built with the 4.7-litre motor

Retains its matching-numbers V-8 engine; original Borg Warner automatic gearbox replaced with the current manual transmission

Factory-finished in Verde Gemma over White leather; now presents in black

Completed in December 1970 for delivery to Atlanta, Georgia in the United States

Despite the nigh on perfect design by Giorgetto Giugiaro, then plying his trade at the famed Ghia coachbuilder, just 125 examples of the Maserati Spyder were produced. Only 80 of those rolled out of the factory gates under the power of the 4.7-litre V-8 engine. Among them, chassis number 1233 offered here was configured for the United States. Accordingly, it was originally fitted with the popular Borg Warner automatic gearbox option. Finished in the metallic light green shade of Verde Gemma over a White leather interior, it was completed on 3 December 1970 ahead of being delivered new to Atlanta in Georgia. The complete history of this Ghibli Spyder is not fully known at present. However, it was later refinished in black and equipped with a replacement manual transmission. Having formed part of an extensive private European collection, the Maserati was purchased by the consigning owner in February 2018. The car retains its matching-numbers engine. Arguably the flagship entry in the vendor’s current stable of stylish 1960s and 1970s Maseratis, this Ghibli Spyder is now poised to find a new fan of the trident badge.
