- 1972 Alpine A110 1300VC V85 Berlinette
The diminutive A110, a charismatic sports car and rally legend; fresh from a recent restoration and a 'hot' Gordini engine and 5-speed gearbox. Perhaps the most celebrated Alpine-Renault ever produced was the A110, introduced in 1962 as the replacement to the Dauphine-based A108. The A110 experienced a remarkable evolution in terms of power output throughout its production years, utilising a succession of Renault engines and related mechanicals. The model proved to be highly successful in rallying and, in 1969, A110s swept the top three positions in the Coupe des Alpes and one finished third in the Rallye Monte Carlo in both 1969 and 1970. The Alpine-Renault's competition record continued to improve throughout the following years, winning the World Rally Championship in 1971 and 1973. The 'Version 85' of the A110 was marketed by the company as an entry-level model when it was first introduced in 1970. Sourced from the Renault 12, the 1,300cc four-cylinder engine produced a credible 81bhp and, with a curb weight of just 700kg, the little Alpine was good for over 110mph and highly exciting to drive. The V85 had been renamed the '1300' by the time the model was discontinued in 1976, at which point some 2,890 examples had been produced over the model's six-year production run. The car presented here is a Dieppe-built 1972 Alpine A110 1300 VC (V85) 'Berlinette' or Coupé. It's on offer from a vendor who is extremely well-informed about 'everything A110', owning another example - an ex-works car, no less. Due to his knowledge and enthusiasm for the marque, he was informed of this car, chassis #12943, found slumbering in a barn and wearing registration OAB 139K. Apparently, it was first registered in the UK in August 1997 and the final recorded MOT was dated 30th July 1999. It was rediscovered in a sort of 'Targa-spec', having possibly been campaigned in some way, but hadn’t turned a wheel in over 20 years. An old Certificat d'Assurance and tax disc affixed to its windscreen suggest it was still being used (wearing registration 6114 TJ 95) in 1997-98 (so just prior to it coming to the UK) in the Val-d'Oise Département, located just north of Paris (this is further confirmed by an accompanying 1995 invoice made out to an owner in Bezons). Seeing the car's inherent quality and state of preservation, our vendor bought it and set about having it fully recommissioned, new suspension, painted and properly set up on a rolling road, spending c.£25,000 in the process. The attention to detail has been exacting - it was hard not to be with his love of Alpines - and the end result certainly shows this. Alpines, because of their rallying credentials, are often evolved over the years by owners for competition (or semi-competition) activities and interestingly this car's engine appears to be the rarer Gordini 1.3-litre 4-pot (with a special head, early Italian Weber carburettors, and an original/rare coil and distributor) giving a very healthy 110bhp (see photo of engine tag), paired with a 5-speed gearbox, all very desirable features for an A110, and confirmed by our vendor’s knowledgeable mechanic. Overall, this is a rare and desirable car, on offer from a real marque expert and is an exciting opportunity for its new owner to write the next chapter in the story of #12943. 1972 Alpine A110 1300VC V85 Berlinette Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1957-bmw-507-series-2
Originally the brainchild of Vienna-born, New York-based automotive impresario Max Hoffman, the BMW 507 represented a concerted attempt by Milbertshofen to re-establish themselves as a major player in the burgeoning luxury and sports car market of the mid-1950s. BMW’s pre-war commercial and sporting success had been predominantly European in focus, and largely underpinned by models such as the 315/1, 319/1, and 328. However, it was evident that the automotive landscape had changed significantly since 1939, and that the United States would be critical to the company’s future expansion plans. Significantly, Hoffman was credited as being the single most influential component in the US-European automobile import/export equation of the 1950s, having operated as an exclusive Jaguar importer for the US from 1948 until 1952 and thereafter in a similar role for Porsche and Mercedes-Benz. His success in driving US-bound exports for all three manufacturers was central to BMW’s decision to proceed with the 507, although the need to avoid a potential pricing conflict with the former’s 356 Speedster and the latter’s 300 SL would prove critical. However, if this could be achieved, Hoffman was confident that demand for the 507 would stretch to thousands of units a year; the majority being destined for the US market. In employing an all-aluminium Type-507/1 3.2-litre V8 engine derived from the incumbent 501 and 502 Saloon range—and a shortened and strengthened version of the 2+2 503’s chassis frame—BMW were able to make use of existing tooling and components, although such relatively mundane underpinnings contrasted starkly with the extravagantly rakish aluminium bodywork styled by Albrecht von Goertz. Invaluable input from BMW mainstays Fritz Fiedler and Alex von Falkenhausen ensured that the car was exquisitely engineered, but from the outset it became apparent that BMW’s estimated production costs were wildly optimistic—thereby leading to an unexpectedly inflated selling price. Popular reaction to car at the 1955 Frankfurt Auto Show proved overwhelmingly positive, but the eventual US sales price of over $9,000 approached double the figure of $5,000 initially suggested by Hoffman. Remarkably, this also equated to more than double the price of a comparable Jaguar XK, and exceeded even the cost of a 300 SL; a car by now well-established stateside, and against which the 507 was now competing directly. Significantly, with a 0-60 time of over 11 seconds and a top speed of a mere 122 mph, the 507 proved markedly slower than the 300 SL; the latter recording corresponding figures of 138 mph and 7.7 seconds respectively. Remarkably—and in stark contrast to the combined 300 SL Gullwing and Roadster production of some 3,258 cars—just 252 507s would be constructed between 1956 and 1959. Of these, the first 34 were retrospectively designated Series I cars, with the subsequent 218 chassis termed Series II. Although the model’s relatively modest power output of 150 horsepower remained substantially unchanged between series, later cars benefitted from a reduction in fuel tank size from 110 to 66 litres—affording a commensurate increase in trunk capacity—while also benefitting from an improved dashboard layout, greater seat adjustment and the introduction of a cabin rear parcel shelf. As an early Series II car, this striking example benefits from the enhanced ergonomics introduced from mid-1957 onwards, not to mention the desirable optional front disc brakes and Rudge centre-lock wheels. Regrettably, little is presently known as to chassis 70080’s early history but it would appear that the car was originally exported to the United States, where it was first registered on 1 August 1957. By the mid-1980s, it had reverted to European ownership; the car being acquired around this time by Albert Keller, appropriately domiciled in BMW’s home city of Munich, Germany. Herr Keller evidently owned the car for several years, with his custody being noted in both the BMW 507 Register of 1985—compiled by the BMW Vintage Club of America—and the corresponding publication of 1987/88. However, by the late 1990s it had returned to the United States; the car being offered for sale at auction in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1999, at which point it displayed an odometer reading of just 54,183 miles. In the early 2010s, 70080 was acquired by the noted French collector Henri Chambon, whose collection at one time or another included a Bugatti Type 57C Atalante, Ferrari 250 GT SWB, and the 1964 Tour de France Automobile-winning Ferrari 250 GTO. In his ownership, the car was entrusted to respected engine authority Raphaël Rondoni, who promptly embarked upon an exhaustive two-year restoration. This included a comprehensive engine rebuild in 2012-2013 by Bugatti master craftsmen Ventoux Moteurs Ingénierie of Carpentras, France, at a cost in excess of €50,000. Once disassembled, the engine work performed included machining of the cylinder block and cylinder head faces and the fitment of a new steel crankshaft, cylinder liners, Arrow “H-section” connecting rods, high compression Wossner forged pistons, an uprated camshaft, and new high-tensile cylinder head studs. Additionally, the cylinder heads benefitted from new Xceldine titanium valves, valve springs, beryllium bronze valve seats and guides, and further machining to the combustion chambers, while the lubrication system and oil pump were appropriately uprated. All ancillary components—such as the water pump, starter motor, and carburettors—were completely overhauled, while the distributor was converted from conventional “points” to electronic ignition, to enhance practicality and reliability. Finally, a custom-made tubular exhaust system was fitted with the dual purpose of both improving performance and saving weight. Upon completion of the work, the engine was bench tested by Ventoux Moteurs and was found to produce 225 horsepower—a significant increase of some 75 horsepower over the original figure quoted by BMW. Concurrent with the engine rebuild, the car was entrusted to accomplished upholsterer and trimmer Raymond Ratto of Cannes, France, who was tasked with re-trimming it with red leather seats and red carpets to original 507 specification. A new black Alpaca hood was also fitted, together with a black hood bag and red tonneau cover, while the rear luggage area was re-trimmed with grey carpet. To further improve practicality and driver enjoyment, electronically-assisted rack and pinion power steering was fitted, although the original factory fitment items accompany the car as a condition of sale. Finally, an alternator was fitted in place of the original dynamo to ensure that more consistent and reliable electrical charging could be achieved. Following the conclusion of the restoration, the car provided M. Chambon with several years of exhilarating, trouble-free motoring, during which time some 25,000 kilometres were covered. However, the decision was taken in 2021 to remove the engine for subsequent disassembly and routine inspection by Ventoux Moteurs. At this point, the engine was once again fitted with new cylinder liners, with all shell bearings also being replaced, the tappets modified with new anti-friction material, the camshaft bearing lubrication system optimised and spark plug inserts fitted. Furthermore, the car was also subjected to a complete gearbox rebuild—including the fitment of all new bearings and syncromeshes, and a new clutch—and a complete overhaul of the back axle. In March 2022, 70080 was acquired from M. Chambon by the consigning owner; 3,000 kilometres had been covered since the previous year’s engine refresh. In the present ownership, usage of the car has been modest, but its maintenance no less fastidious than that performed previously; a fact confirmed by the carrying out of a comprehensive service—including the fitment of a new fuel gauge and cooling fan sensor—by Heritage Motor Cars of Paris as recently as July 2022, at a cost of some €2,257. In successfully fusing the aesthetic appeal of von Goertz’s original design with contemporary—and, crucially, sympathetically executed—performance and ergonomic improvements, 70080 remains uniquely well-placed amongst its peers to cope with the rigours of 21st century motoring. Accompanied as it is by a highly desirable body colour factory hard top, engine bay-mounted tool kit, and original Owners’ manuals, it remains a superbly appointed and exquisitely maintained example of this most capable of 1950s Grand Tourers, and one fit to grace the roads of the Côte d'Azur, Italian Riviera, or even the Pacific Coast Highway—exactly as originally intended. 1957 BMW 507 Series 2 RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1993 Honda Acura NSX
General Overview When Honda first launched the NSX, it instantly established tbe newly established Acura brand as a leading builder of performance cars. Only four years had lapsed since the Acura name emerged as a premier division, but sports car perceptions were about to be forever changed. Honda began their quest in 1984, eager to produce a competitor to Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche by targeting the Ferrari 328 as the car to beat. Honda wanted to meet or exceed the performance of the Ferrari, while maintaining Honda reliability, at a reasonable price. The team developed the commanding naturally aspirated V6 VTEC engine - the world's first production car engine with titanium connecting rods, forged pistons, and ultra-high revving capabilities. With redline at a superior 8,000 rpm, the NSX was tested by Formula One legend Ayrton Senna, who would become a primary performance consultant, convincing the company to stiffen the NSX chassis further after testing the car at Honda's Suzuka GP circuit. In addition to Senna’s extensive contributions, legendary Japanese Formula One driver Satoru Nakajima and prominent American driver Bobby Rahal were both active participants in the car's unprecedented development as the world’s first all-aluminum production car. When the NS-X (short for "New Sports Experimental") debuted at the Chicago Auto Show in February 1989, sports car enthusiasts were astounded by its stance, striking lines, and distinct cab-forward design. Sporting a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout and lightweight aluminum construction, the NSX was hailed by many as the "Everyday Supercar" capable of competing against Ferrari and Porsche, offering incredible balance, sophistication, and reliability, while exceeding everyone’s expectations in essentially every performance category while remaining as easy to use as any modern Honda. Today these unique and desirable cars further engage new generations of enthusiasts eager to experience the astonishing performance as a new classic. History and Build Details of This Car This rare Acura NSX is one of just 598 built in 1993 and one of 194 5-speed manual transmission examples built in the desirable black over black leather combination. An early production sequence example, this car was delivered to the first owner, located in Fort Lauderdale, FL and later moved with the original owner to Greenville, SC where it amassed just 7400 miles before being sold to the second owner in 2011. Though miles were kept low, the second owner engaged Piedmont Honda to replace the timing belt in 2011 before selling it to the third and current owner in April 2012. The current and consigning owner titled and registered the car in August 2013. The California title declares the actual miles at that time of 9,826, which is consistent with the consecutively accumulated miles reflected in the Carfax report. After the current owner’s purchase, a set of California compliant Comptech headers were purchased from DC Sports. The car is also fitted with a DownForce air intake unit for increased air flow (original unit included with the car). This NSX has since passed emissions testing including a recent May 2024 emissions test (certificate included with sale). Services in preparation for sale include the installation of a new timing belt and water pump, new accessory belts, new valve cover gasket, a new set of Continental Extreme Contact tires, fluids checked and topped off and oil and filter change (May 2024). Over the past decade of current ownership this car has been stored indoors as part of a private performance car collection. The owner has preserved the car with originality in mind including the purchase of numerous spare consumable OEM Honda parts more commonly subject to wear on higher mileage cars which are included with the car. Condition Overview Today this NSX presents as an excellent and rare black on black factory example with preserved original finishes of very high quality. Low mileage NSXs have become increasingly challenging to find due to their amazing driving manners. They are literally hard to resist once behind the wheel. For a collector seeking a very nicely preserved and well-maintained NSX, this is a very enticing example. The exterior finish is smooth and glossy exhibiting excellent quality on all factory aluminum body panels including the front and rear flexible composite bumper caps. The black finish has been metered on all aluminum body panels using a digital paint meter which indicated single digit numbers on all metal panels consistent with factory applied paint. The doors, hood, and deck lid open and shut properly with excellent panel gaps and crisp closure. The unforgiving gloss black finish is particularly nice including the door jambs and underside of the hood and engine lid. The glass, trim, emblems, and various lenses throughout the car are like new while the factory glass retains the correct brand etching including the windshield which is free from major chips or cracks. Importantly, the factory VIN door threshold plate and engine bay bulkhead numbers match the VIN further supporting the originality of this factory black on black example. The stance and ride height are correctly positioned on a new set of Continental Extreme Contact Sport 205/50 ZR15 front and 225/50 ZR16 rear radial tires, installed in preparation for sale. The interior of the car is fresh and superbly maintained, showing no significant wear or fading on the carpets, seats, or door panels. The leather trimmed seats are in excellent condition showing only light scuff marks on the entry/exit side driver’s seat bolster, but otherwise displaying very nice factory finishes, proper stitching, and gently softened factory materials. The dash is free from significant marks or shrinkage with no cracks or fading and the steering wheel shows only minor signs of use to the matching black padded wheel. The carpet under both floor mats appears essentially new, and the mats themselves show minimal wear. Overall, the interior shows remarkably well, including the headliner, which appears nearly new. The inside doorsills are in excellent condition with no significant marks or scratches along the brightwork which also bears the correct matching VIN stamping. The rear trunk compartment is also in excellent condition as is the front storage compartment and correct factory spare tire. Under the hood the visual condition of the engine and engine compartment support the low miles with very nice finishes, correct factory details, hoses, air box, and factory labels. The factory stock engine operates as expected having recently benefited from a new timing belt and water pump, new accessory belts, and fluids in preparation for sale. The car starts easily and runs very well with fantastic acceleration, smooth 5-speed shifting, great brakes, comfortable operational features including premium stereo and cold AC, and of course - legendary F1 derived handling. Included with This Car This car is accompanied by copies of selected service records spanning 2011-2024 under current and prior ownership, a spare set of later generation wheels and tires, formerly installed performance headers, stock manifolds for an NSX of this generation, stock side-air intake, an NSX car cover and bag, a spare set of new NSX floor mats, an engine compartment protection cover (new in the factory bag), various Honda OEM replacement gas struts still in the factory bag, and other misc. - 1991 Lamborghini Diablo
For 16 years, Lamborghini produced the car that defined the term “poster car”- the Countach. But as the 1980s came to a close, it was time to update the model and create a poster car for the 1990s. The Diablo was their answer- unveiled to the public in January 1990, the design was clearly an evolution of the wedgy Countach but was refined to usher Lamborghini’s supercar into the 90s and beyond. Powered by a more advanced version of Lamborghini’s famous V12, the engine now displaced 5.7 liters and thanks to a modern computer-controlled fuel injection system, was good for 485 horsepower while also complying with ever-tightening emissions regulations around the world. This engine paired with superior aerodynamics made the Diablo the first production Lamborghini to have a top speed in excess of 200 mph and could run from 0-60 in just 4.5 seconds. This 1991 Diablo is a particularly special example, first ordered by Formula One World Champion, Indianapolis 500, and Daytona 500 winner Mario Andretti. Finished in beautiful Rosso paint, this Diablo was treated to a recent repaint that shows very nicely all the way around the car. As an homage to one of the Countach’s signature design elements, an optional rear wing could be fitted to the Diablo and is on this example. The 17” OZ Racing multi-piece wheels with their 5-hole “phone dial” styling is another nod to the Countach and look stunning with a polished lip, and painted wheel center. Tan leather upholstery covers the interior with contrasting black leather on the steering wheel rim, dash and pillars. The earlier Diablos like this one, feature a large gauge cluster in front of the driver with 7 gauges to keep tabs on all of the car’s various systems- the gauge pod looks intimidating in photos but becomes easy to use once you get behind the wheel. A spartan center stack features electronic climate controls and a modern JVC stereo with Bluetooth capabilities but the original Alpine 7930 cassette player is included with the sale. The early style fixed back bucket seats look spectacular and, although they do not feature the massive side bolsters you see in more modern cars, are supportive and keep you in place during performance driving. Behind the front seats sits the 5.7 liter V12 which is in fine form thanks to a full engine out service by marque experts High Mountain Classics of Fort Collins, CO in 2020. During this procedure, a full head rebuild with new valves, new fuel hoses, and a full cooling system service were carried out with a binder full of receipts to give the full scope of the work done. Power is sent from this engine to a 5-speed manual transmission which received replacement clutch cylinders in 2021. The underside of this Diablo is nearly spotless as well with a full dry ice cleaning carried out prior to its last sale- the process is documented on the I Am Detailing YouTube channel and is exceptionally thorough. These early Diablos are notorious for being some of the most visceral, exciting examples from behind the wheel thanks to a lack of power steering, traction control, and rear-wheel drive layout. There is no doubt that this Diablo will be a thrilling drive and you can be sure that after the recent servicing, you will be able to enjoy all of the 485 horsepower the engine has to offer. The Lamborghini Diablo will go down in history as one of the most legendary supercars of the 1990s and these early examples are the car in its purest form and free from the Volkswagen influence seen in later examples. Additionally, that this car was originally owned by one of America’s most beloved and successful race car drivers gives it the kind of celebrity provenance any car enthusiast can get behind. 1991 Lamborghini Diablo ISSIMI, Inc If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1967 Porsche 911
The body, engine with approx. 235 hp and technology of the Porsche 911 2.0 offered here have been completely rebuilt over the last 3 years by a well-known Porsche motorsport specialist in Holland, regardless of the cost. The initially pure racing car project, which cost over EUR 300,000, was finally completed as an outlaw of the road with a sensational power-to-weight ratio. The throaty sound of the engine, which has only just been run in with just under 1,800 km, is a real pleasure even when stationary and the handling with short gearshift travel is simply phenomenal. This beautiful Porsche 911 is freshly veteran-approved and leaves nothing to be desired in terms of sporty driving. The Porsche 911, also known as the nine-eleven for short, is Porsche’s best-known sports car and is regarded as the epitome of the brand. The 911 is a typical sports car. It is powered by a 6-cylinder boxer engine in the rear. With the rear-engine design, the 911 continues a classic design principle that can already be found in earlier Porsche developments. Body variants of the Porsche 911 are the Coupé, the Cabriolet and the Targa. In the past, the Porsche 911 was successfully used as a racing car in the Sports Car World Championship and the German Racing Championship. Today, racing cars based on the 911 are mainly used in one-make cups such as the Carrera Cup. The first 911 version built in series from September 1964 was the so-called original model presented at the IAA 1963 with a 130 hp 2-liter six-cylinder boxer engine. Even when stationary, this 911 is a homage to the original, the clarity of the mechanics and the art of omission. 1967 Porsche 911 Lutziger Classic Cars AG If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright The body, engine with approx. - 1969 Abarth 1300 Scorpione SS
Leo Aumüller owns one of the world’s largest Abarth collections and is known as one of the best Abarth experts. Aumüller considers the Abarth Scorpione 1300 to be a very special rarity: only about 30-40 Scorpione SSs were built, while the more basic version with only one “S” was built in the region of 300 units. He estimates that there are perhaps 15-20 Scorpione SSs left in the world today. This Scorpione SS in the vivid original light blue colour was stripped down and rebuilt between 2010 and 2012. The engine and gearbox were also rebuilt. Since then, it has been carefully maintained and the exhaust system has been made from new. For the purpose of completeness, the previously missing original rims and wheel covers were also purchased through Leo Aumüller. A rare and beautiful collector’s car with a famous name! About the history of the Abarth Scorpione: The design of the Scorpione was drawn by Giuseppe Rinaldi, who was in the service of Francis Lombardi. He borrowed some aspects of the design of the Lamborghini Miura, which gave the Abarth Scorpione the inofficial name of “Mini-Miura”. Lombardi as a coachbuilder was responsible for the bodywork of the Abarth, which was also visible in the fact that there was a very similar “Lombardi Grand Prix”. However, only with an 850cc engine, whereas the Scorpione built by Abarth was fired by a high-performance 1300cc engine. With a dry weight of only 670 kilograms, this rear-engined sports car is still a thrilling driving machine today. The SS version of the Scorpione is also equipped with a more technically sophisticated chassis and disc brakes all round. The Abarth Scorpione was one of the last cars to be built under the aegis of Carlo Abarth. The sales price at the time was three times that of a Fiat 850 and therefore limited the number of potential buyers willing to spend that money. 1969 Abarth 1300 Scorpione SS Lutziger Classic Cars AG If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The BMW Z3 M Roadster was designed as the most powerful version of the Z3 series and manufactured in combination with the 3.2-liter engine familiar from the M3. Its high torque, the manual 5-speed gearbox and the pronounced driving dynamics clearly set it apart from the series models. A total of 15,322 examples of the Roadster were produced. This example was first registered to BMW AG in Munich on 25.05.1999 and transferred to the current owner in 2000. The mileage of around 155,800 km is documented by a complete service booklet and numerous invoices. The vehicle presents itself in a very well-kept condition and impresses with its attractive “Oxford Green” color scheme. - 1971 Ford Escort Mk1 Mexico
It seems likely that Ford already had plans to introduce a high-performance Escort to fit in the range between the 1300GT and the Twin Cam / RS1600, but their victory in the 1970 World Cup Rally, which finished in Mexico, provided an ideal platform to launch such a model. The engineers at the newly formed AVO (Advanced Vehicles Operations) quickly developed the 'Mexico', marrying the Type 49 body-shell as used in the Twin Cam and RS1600 with the 1600cc Kent 'crossflow' engine and 2000E gearbox. So, effectively, the Mexico was basically a re-engined Twin Cam / RS1600. The Mexico was AVO's most successful and numerous of the 'Rally Sport Escorts,' and it had a number of advantages on the road, in that it offered decent performance, was easy to maintain, relatively easy to insure and above all it was great to drive, something which is still true today. Offered here is a genuine AVO Ford Escort Mexico built at Aveley in May 1971 confirmed by its V5 which clearly states Ford Mexico. Its rally pedigree is endorsed by an earlier MSA rally competition logbook (needs renewing) and the roll bar carries some early scrutineering stickers. It has a gas-flowed head and only recently has been treated to a couple of brand new 45 DCOE Webers. The crossflow engine is dry-sumped with the oil tank in the boot and it has a close-cut 'Rocket' gearbox and a limited-slip differential. Feeding the new Webers is a Rally Weld alloy competition fuel tank with a spare wheel recess. Classically finished in Diamond White with black graphics, the Mexico has recently benefited from substantial expenditure with a view to renewed competition use and a new MSA Logbook. Both front and rear brakes have been replaced and a new pedal box fitted. Two new Cobra seats have been fitted with new TRS Turn One harnesses and an extinguisher, making sure that all the safety equipment is right up to date. It's just been granted a fresh MOT so is ready for the papers to be renewed by the next owner. With the recent RAC Rally capturing the publics imagination again this Mexico, which wrote the book on national grass roots rallying, would be the perfect car to enjoy the resurgence in the sport at a very realistic budget. This is a great opportunity to own an iconic seventies 'Performance Ford', with all the history and magic that the name 'Mexico' implies. 1971 Ford Escort Mk1 Mexico Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1985 Audi Sport quattro S1 E2
APEX PREDATOR Group B is often hailed as the golden era of rallying, producing some of the most powerful rally cars to ever take to a special stage and fostering a previously unheard-of level of development and innovation. No car or manufacturer exemplified that better than Audi and its game-changing quattro. The Ingolstadt outfit is credited with bringing four-wheel drive to the rally stage, and its revolutionary design delivered no fewer than three Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ World Championships by 1984. But while it held the advantage over rear-drive competition, the car was also overweight and nose heavy. In an effort to stay ahead of its rivals—development of Lancia’s S4 having begun in 1983—Audi introduced the Sport quattro in 1984. Despite its prodigious power output, the shorter-wheelbase car was difficult to handle and drivers struggled. Eventual 1984 World Champion Stig Blomqvist even avoided using the new car until he had one hand on the trophy. The situation led to the development of what is widely accepted to be one of the most fearsomely powerful and ferociously quick rally cars of the golden era: the Audi quattro S1 E2. The new car made use of the same fIve-cylinder 2,110-cc alloy block with a 20-valve aluminium head mated to a single vast KKK turbocharger and was capable of producing a colossal 550 horsepower—among the highest of any Group B rally car. Coupled with lightweight carbon-Kevlar composite bodywork and four-wheel drive, the quattro S1 E2 could hit 160 km/h in a blistering 8.9 seconds. In the words of Walter Röhrl: “the engine was always blowing off pressure and banging explosions into the countryside. No car was like that”. Power aside, the E2’s greatest achievement was much improved weight distribution and a slimming regimen that saw it tip the scales at around 1,100 kilograms. Engineers moved many of the heavier components—including the radiator, fans, and even the alternator—to the rear of the car, while the wild bodywork and vast front and rear wings that became the car’s trademark were shaped by wind tunnel testing and greatly improved total downforce. In total, just 20 examples of this legendary rally weapon would leave Audi’s Ingolstadt works. ON THE LOOSE Chassis 018 was the 18th of 20 Audi Sport quattro S1 E2s built and is recorded on an Audi Sport document (on file) as being registered “IN-NR-43” in Ingolstadt on 12 February 1986 with a note that it was built specifically for the Greek (Acropolis) rally.. As documented in Reinhard Klein’s definitive Group B – The Owner’s Edition, IN-NR-43 was entered in the 1986 Rallye de Portugal, driven by two-time WRC (World Rally Championship) champion Walter Röhrl. Excitement for the event was tempered by concern at the Sintra stage—previously a night-time section—being run in daylight, with huge crowds expected to line the course, and a usually reserved Markku Alén even appealed for people to steer clear of the danger. A more pragmatic Röhrl had been quizzed on the involvement of spectators a year earlier and had said: “They are only bushes to us—only trees; if we think these are people, we cannot drive”. Röhrl found his pace from the off, leading the first stage on equal footing with Alén and his Lancia Delta S4 despite a chilling near miss in which a spectator ran across the road in front of the charging quattro. The second stage resulted in Röhrl losing ground to the Lancia S4s and Peugeot T-16s, and by the end of the much longer third stage he had consolidated his position running 5th overall behind the three Works Lancias and the Peugeot of Juha Kankkunen. The rally was cut short by Joaquim Santos’ tragic accident. In the immediate aftermath all Works teams withdrew from the event as a mark of respect for those lost. Audi withdrew from the entire Championship, with this outing for chassis 018 marking the manufacturer’s final competitive entry in Group B. It was subsequently sold to Sweden. A PHOENIX RISING The Group B era of rallying encouraged the development of some of the most exciting machines in motorsport and provided a spectacle that was never to be equalled—but this thrilling period of competition was all too brief. In many ways the series flew too close to the sun, the unchecked arms race of peak performance and spectator involvement proving a deadly combination. Some Group B machines, such as Audi’s all-conquering Sport quattro S1 E2, found themselves without a home when the formula was outlawed in 1986, while others, including the E2’s would-be successor, the quattro RS 002, would be abandoned during development and never turn a wheel in anger. With the advent of Group A as the WRC’s primary category, the only other plausible places for these beasts to compete were hill climbs or the European Rallycross Championship, and scores of former Group B rally weapons—including chassis 018—were deployed into the fiercely competitive and crowd-pleasing formula. Fascinatingly, the rally exiles would be developed beyond even the extremes of Group B, such was the sprint-based formula in deference to the endurance format of rallying. Like many of its contemporaries, chassis 018 was refined and modified for Rallycross competition, where it was briefly campaigned by Anders Carlsson. Freed from the shackles of prior homologation, numerous cosmetic and mechanical modifications were made to tailor the car to the short and frenetic circuits that made up the championship. Chasiss 018 then took part in the 1989 and 1990 Race Of Champions, before being acquired by the Race Of Champions co-founder in 1991. Conceived to showcase the very best rally talent and later expanded to include leading lights from all disciplines of motorsport, the event’s high-octane demonstrations have for more than 30 years delivered a spectacle that appeals to every true motorsport fan by pitting some of the world's best drivers from a variety of disciplines and nationalities against one another. This very Audi Sport quattro S1 E2 became an integral part of that vision, playing a headline role at the 1989 Race Of Champions, held at the Nürburgring, and the 1990 Race Of Champions event in Barcelona. During those two events chassis 018 was driven by Björn Waldegård, Walter Röhrl, Ari Vatanen, Hannu Mikkola, Stig Blomqvist, Timo Salonen, Juha Kankkunen, Miki Biasion, and Carlos Sainz—in short, every World Rally Champion from 1979 to 1990. The car is accompanied by a bonnet (front hood) that has been signed by every one of the luminaries on that list, with the exception of Kankkunen (who had previously signed the side of the car instead!). This significant quattro arguably became the most recognisable car to feature in the Race Of Champions, demonstrated in no fewer than 13 events everywhere from Bangkok and Beijing to Miami and Barbados. While in current ownership the quattro has been prepared and maintained by former Audi Sport engineer Karl Hasenbilcher. Today, chassis 018 presents in fine mechanical fettle, having largely been preserved for the past three decades in the same specification in which Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist, Hannu Mikkola, Ari Vatanen etc drove the car in ROC 1989 and 1990, save for a livery change. It must be noted that there are some significant deviations from its original Group B specification, including a replacement engine block (iron) which in 2021 benefited from a complete rebuild at the hands of Audi Sport’s legendary engineer Karl Hasenbilcher. Due to the complexities of the car’s unique current set-up, it is strongly recommended that interested parties speak with an RM Sotheby’s car specialist and ideally arrange for an in-person viewing. In total, just 20 examples of Audi’s outrageous Sport quattro S1 E2 were ever built, each a shining, flame-spitting beacon from the dying days of the last great epoch of rallying. Of the few S1 E2s to have become available, this car is arguably the most well-known to recent generations of rally fans, and in our opinion is the most exciting Group B restoration prospect for many years. Its next custodian will have the opportunity to either keep the car as it has been known and run in the Race Of Champions, or to return it to Works-standard Group B configuration. 1985 Audi Sport quattro S1 E2 RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. Attention enthusiasts and collectors – a unique opportunity for Swiss car history! The Monteverdi High Speed 375 L with Frua body offered here is a one-off. Only this car (chassis number 2001), which was shown in Geneva in March 1968, was completed with the original bodywork by Pietro Frua. After Peter Monteverdi had initially registered the car to himself, it was taken over by Swiss businessman Alfred Hopf, with whom Monteverdi had already run the Écurie HOBA racing team a few years earlier. The car later went to the famous playboy Gunter Sachs, who presumably not only had his then wife Brigitte Bardot on board, but also the undisputed sex goddess of the era. In the 1980s, Monteverdi bought it back and it became part of the Monteverdi Museum. This beautiful Monteverdi High Speed 375 L “Frua” in the color Aqua Verde is in top-maintained and absolutely original collector’s condition. The Monteverdi High Speed 375 L with Frua bodywork is a one-off 2+2-seater sports car built by the Swiss car brand Monteverdi in 1968. It was originally planned to complement the two-seater High Speed 375 S (Frua) presented six months earlier, but was not produced in series in this form due to a copyright dispute. In 1969, a second model appeared with the designation High Speed 375 L, which had a Fissore body and looked significantly different. The Fissore version was built around one hundred times until 1976. Pietro Frua further developed his Monteverdi design a few years later for the British sports car manufacturer AC Cars. 1968 Monteverdi High Speed 375 L prototype Lutziger Classic Cars AG If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1966-porsche-906-carrera-6-2
At a time when Ferrari struggled to produce the 50 cars required to homologate a Dino V-6-powered 2-litre sportscar, Porsche almost immediately sold out its new 906. Featuring a tubular steel spaceframe chassis, low nose, “Kamm” tail, and curved windscreen, here was a diminutive low-drag racer that could still accommodate a suitcase to satisfy the rulebook. The project, realised under the direction of Porsche luminaries Ferdinand Piëch and Hanz Mezger, was shown to the press at the Zuffenhausen factory in January 1966 and sold to customers for $11,500. Just 65 chassis were produced, with only 52 examples fitted with the 901/20-type Carrera 6 engine. Newly developed for the 906, using titanium and magnesium parts, the motor was 54 kilograms lighter than that of a contemporary 911 road car. It returned 210 horsepower from 1,991 cc to propel a package that weighed only 580 kilograms. Of those cars, chassis number 906-146 offered here was delivered on 20 April 1966 to Pon’s Holland, the long-standing Volkswagen and Porsche importer. Per a copy of the Kardex sheet, the car was finished in Orange befitting of the first owner: Racing Team Holland. On 24 April the car made its competitive debut in the NAV national meeting at Zandvoort, where driver Wim Loos claimed a 2-litre class win. With David van Lennep next behind the wheel, podiums arrived at Trier and in the Paris Grand Prix at Montlhéry. The Carrera 6 enjoyed regular outings over the next year, including Ben Pon Jr chalking a brace of outright wins at Zandvoort, before the car was crashed in practice ahead of the 1000 Km of Spa. The Porsche was subsequently rebuilt at the Porsche factory in 1968 before being sold to Antoine Hezemans. Wearing a new white livery featuring a blue, white, and red (the Dutch national colours) stripe, the 906 banked three more victories before Arie Ruska bought the Porsche at the end of 1969. He raced it through to October 1971. The following year, the 906 was reportedly sold via renowned sports car dealer Rob de la Rive Box to a Dutch surgeon. The Porsche was later acquired by collector Albert Westerman, who retained it until 2002. The car then found it first non-Dutch custodian as it was acquired by the consignor owner in 2005. Treated to a body-off restoration by Gustav Ulrich and August Deutsch Mechanik (documented in accompanying photographic albums), the Porsche was returned to its period Orange hue, as it presents in today. The car was also fitted with a 911 engine. In addition to the spare correct-specification 901/20-type flat-six offered with the car, chassis number 906-146 is complemented by an expired FIA Historic Technical Passport plus inspection reports from marque authorities Walter Naeher (March 2013), Rolf Sprenger (July 2013), and Andy Prill (February 2025). A storied and successful example of Porsche’s great 2-litre sportscar, this 906 would make for a standout addition to any motorsport-centric collection. 1966 Porsche 906 Carrera 6 RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright At a time when Ferrari struggled to produce the 50 cars required to homologate a Dino V-6-powered 2-litre sportscar, Porsche almost immediately sold out its new 906.
