- Fascination Car Design
To me, cars have always been more than only a means to an end. They fascinate me in different ways, most of all in terms of their design. In car styling, there are many different parts that – in their totality – make up a harmonious car design. In my series, which I photographed in 2016 as my bachelor thesis at university, I tried to extract these details, take them out of their context and allowed them the room for their own perfect shape. Through reduced and at the same time distinctive light guidance, often combined with unfamiliar perspectives, I like to share the fascination of car design through my eyes. My pictures shouldn't be commercial shots, nor do they explain technical functions. The sheer concentration on the aesthetics is the focus of this work. Ideally I can change the observers view on how to perceive the automobile. It is an object to move you from A to B, but it can also be seen as a moving sculpture. So why BMW? To be honest, a lot of car manufactures have an interesting design history and I love to photograph these evolutions. As an original Münchner, I've always been a fan of the Bavarian brand – to be precise: mostly of their design. Always sporty, mostly modern and often a great mix of traditional quotes with new elements. In most cases, there are even borrowings from the automotive beginnings of the Munich-based manufacturer. This attention to detail has fascinated me and so I chose BMW for my bachelor thesis. I photographed over 50 cars, from the classic BMW Dixi up to the 2016 G11 7-series at the BMW Museum, at the BMW Group and at private individuals. www.oliversold.com Mail | Instagram | CÆTCH
- The autobiography of Hans Mezger, name in Porsche's history and legendary engineer
Hans Mezger has died, aged 90. He will forever stand out among the many famous names in Porsche's history. He was the designer of the air-cooled six-cylinder boxer engine in the Porsche 911, overall designer of the 917 and its V12 with a 180-degree bank angle, and creator of the TAG Turbo Formula One engine. Porsche and the motorsport definitely lost one of their most iconic contributors. "Porsche and Me" is the autobiography he wrote with Peter Morgan. Hans Mezger joined Porsche in 1956 and within a few years was responsible for the design of both the early 1960s F1 engine and subsequently led the design of the six cylinder 911 engine. In 1965 he became head of the new race design office under the charismatic Ferdinand Piëch. Mezger led the development of all the iconic race prototypes of the 1960s, climaxing in the unforgettable 917 program. He was a principal contributor to all sixteen of Porsche’s victories in the famed Le Mans 24 Hours. When the McLaren-TAG F1 team came to Porsche for a turbo engine in the 1980s, he led the design and development that resulted in three consecutive F1 constructors’ titles. This personal account of a dedicated and loyal Porsche engineer will touch every enthusiast's heart and underline why the name of Porsche is so respected todaytobiography of Porsche’s most talented engineer. - Alfa Romeo SZ Zagato ES30
The Beauty and the Beast… the Alfa Romeo SZ Zagato ES30 is both. Never before have opinions been as divided as at the time of the unveiling of the Alfa Romeo SZ, and that was exactly the intention of Zagato and its master-designer Robert Opron. It had to be a car that evokes emotions, one that polarizes and ensures that the design continues to flow. Courtesy Rock’n’Roll classics Rock N Roll Classics.
