- 1973 Porsche 911 2.4 E Coupe
A lovely restored example of a classic Porsche which was sold new in Verona Italy. The car remained in Italy and after a period in Pavia the car arrived in Holland in 2004. The car features an S package (all instruments and steering wheel), an S front spoiler and is finished in classic Elfenbein white (Originally the car was a rare color Seeblue). The enthusiastic owner had a lot of detail work done to the car at a well known Porsche specialist. In 2008 the car changed hands and entered in a large Porsche collection and in 2009 the car was restored and repainted at a well known Porsche specialist. The engine was partially rebuilt, the cylinder heads rebuilt, the gearbox rebuilt, the brakes rebuilt and a complete new stainless steel exhaust system fitted. - 1960 Ferrari 250 GT
Driven to 5th in class in the model’s race debut at the 1960 12 Hours of Sebring Highly successful period race history with 14 podium finishes across over 20 races Equipped from new with the more powerful Tipo 168 B engine, a specification that only a very limited number of the 1960 alloy SWB Berlinettas received Ferrari Classiche Red Book certified; retains its matching-numbers chassis, engine, and rear axle Subject of a recent full concours-level restoration by Wayne Obry’s Motion Products with final details done by Toni Auto in Maranello; full receipts total nearly $1 million Eligible for some of the finest motoring events around the world Ferrari’s 250 GT SWB was one of the few models in automotive history where form and function met perfectly, arguably only surpassed by its own direct successor, the 250 GTO. Few cars genuinely transcend design boundaries to become greater than a sum of their parts, to be considered an art form rather than categorised as transport—the 250 GT SWB is one of them. The 250 GT SWB was the product of evolution, a quest for perfection and competition dominance. Its predecessor, the “Tour de France” variant of the 250 GT, had been wildly successful in GT racing but the SWB marked a step-change for Ferrari. Designed with a shorter chassis, the SWB debuted the proficient 168-type “outside-plug” version of Ferrari’s 3-litre V-12 engine and disc brakes were fitted on all four corners—for endurance racing, a powerful and reliable drivetrain was key to success. Fulfilling its promise, the SWB Competizione variant proceeded to dominate GT racing across Europe and America achieving overall or class victories in nearly 250 races between 1960 and 1967. These included a number of epic wins, with notable class victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1960 and 1961, as well as overall victory at the 1961 and 1962 Tour de France, the latter of which was won by beating eight 250 GTOs in the process. One of just 45 aluminium-bodied Competizione examples built in 1960, chassis 1773 GT was completed on 16 March 1960, constructed intentionally, as noted on its build sheet, for the 1960 edition of the 12 Hours of Sebring—significantly this race was the SWB’s competition debut. This Ferrari was delivered new in a high-level competition specification per Factory Build Sheets—of note are the Tipo 168B “hot rod” engine and roll hoop. Entered by Luigi Chinetti’s famous North American Racing Team, apparently with light factory support, this SWB was piloted by George Arents and Bill Kimberly, both wealthy heirs and well-known exponents of the US racing scene. Arents was a founding backer of NART, so it is no coincidence that he was the first owner of 1773 GT. Entered into the Sports 3 Litre class due to its then non-homologated status, 1773 GT was vying for overall honours against the likes of Porsche RS 60s, Ferrari 250 TRs and two other SWBs. When the chequered flag dropped after 12 punishing hours of racing, this SWB crossed the line in an impressive 7th place overall, and 5th in class. Chassis 1773 GT was later sold to multiple Le Mans class winner, Bob Grossman, who next brought the SWB out to the star-studded series of year-end races at Nassau. The Bahamas Speed Week was the bookend of the season with Works-entered cars and drivers from Europe and America convening in Nassau. Starting with the Tourist Trophy race, Grossman finished a fine 2nd overall behind Stirling Moss in the Rob Walker-entered SWB, before competing in the Governor’s Trophy and finishing 11th overall. The final race was the Nassau Trophy, where Grossman finished 11th overall again but this time taking an accomplished GT class win. In early 1961, 1773 GT was sold to its third owner, Bob Hathaway, who raced this Ferrari regularly throughout 1961 and early 1962, picking up overall and class podiums at most events. For one weekend in May 1961, former and future owners Grossman and Walt Luftman borrowed this SWB for the SCCA National races at Bridgehampton with Grossman taking overall victory in Race 6. The Ferrari made its second appearance at Nassau for the 1961 edition of the Bahamas Speed Week. In the Tourist Trophy race, Hathaway finished 3rd overall behind Moss and Grossman, who were both driving younger SWB Competizione “SEFAC Hot Rods”. For the Governor’s Trophy, Hathaway finished 7th overall, following Grossman’s SWB across the line. Unfortunately, a holed radiator forced a retirement from the Nassau Trophy race. After a highly successful ownership in which 1773 GT achieved a dozen podium class finishes in nearly 20 races, Hathaway sold the SWB back to Grossman, who immediately traded it to friend Walt Luftman. After Luftman, it had a further six owners until 1987, when it joined the Van der Velden family. The car passed through the hands of three further owners, including the respected collections of Nigel Dawes and Tony Smith, before being purchased by Bruce McCaw in 1999. Kept by him for a little over two years, it then entered the care of Ervin Lyon, who showed this SWB at the 2003 Amelia Island Concours before it joined the stable of historic racer John Romano. In this collection it was regularly seen at Ferrari events including Shell Ferrari Maserati Historic Challenge races and the 2010 Cavallino Classic. In 2014, this remarkable Ferrari became part of the celebrated Pinnacle Portfolio. Recognising the importance of this early SWB Competizione, it was sent to Wayne Obry’s Motion Products Inc. to be restored to concours-winning standard. The car was entirely rebuilt with the intention of restoring it to exact delivery specification, so it was repainted to the correct shade of Giallo with a new stunning Pelle Verde interior. While the body was in bare metal, its originality was confirmed, and the chassis was studied to prove the charmed life this Ferrari has led. In all, invoices totalled nearly $700,000. In 2023, this historic Ferrari was submitted to Ferrari Classiche and was granted full Red Book certification. During the process, the factory confirmed that this remarkable SWB Competizione importantly retains its original matching-numbers chassis, engine, and rear axle, while the gearbox fitted is a correct aluminium ribbed-casing competition unit. The certification also noted the originality of the body. The Ferrari 250 GT SWB Competizione cemented its place in sports car history as one of the most successful GT racers of all time with nearly 250 victories in over 700 period competition races. Ranked among the finest 250 GT SWB Competizione extant, 1773 GT boasts the rare combination of a high performance original build configuration, a remarkable level of originality and preservation, and significant competition history at some of the great endurance races of the period. Eligible for some of the finest motoring events around the world, from the lawns of Pebble Beach to the Dunlop Curves of Le Mans, this remarkable SWB Competizione is ready to take its place among any of the greatest collections. 1960 Ferrari 250 GT RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1962-bmw-507-series-2
First registration 03.1962 Year of construction 1959 Only 252 units built Matching numbers and color Stunning original condition Swiss road registration with veteran entry With a total production of only 252 examples in two series, the BMW 507 Roadster is a rare car that everyone agrees is a true classic and icon of automotive design, even if few have had the privilege of experiencing the driving experience of the 3.2-liter V8-powered M507/1 in person. The BMW 507 Roadster Series II offered here was completed in 1959 in the color Papyros and leather interior blue uni. It was registered for the first time in Switzerland in June 1960 at the Zurich Freilager customs office and then officially put on the road for the first time in March 1962. The car was part of the collection of BMW 507 connoisseur Hans Theil from Winterthur from 1971 and for an incredible 42 years before it was bought by the last owner in 2013. The bodywork was repainted in the original Papyros color at the beginning of the 1970s in Hans Theil’s possession, and the original engine no. 40227 was also replaced at this time by the 160 hp engine no. 41199. This engine is still installed today, but the original block with no. 40227 is present and belongs to the car – matching numbers. This beautiful BMW 507 Roadster is in top-maintained, completely unrestored and breathtakingly original collector’s condition with patina. Many documents and receipts from the period are present, including the original owner’s manual and even an original sales brochure. The BMW 507 is one of the most legendary and stylish roadsters ever built by BMW – a true classic with cult status. It was conceived as a luxurious sports car that was primarily intended to compete with the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. Its design is still considered one of the most beautiful automobile designs of the 1950s. Today, the 507 is extremely sought-after – it is considered one of the most valuable BMWs ever. - 1956 Jaguar XK140 Drophead
When the Jaguar XK120 was launched in 1948, it was unique. The new Jaguar sports car brought racing car performance to the road, yet it did so with a level of comfort and sophistication unknown in such a vehicle. The car was intended for limited production only to try out Jaguar’s new twin overhead camshaft engine, designated during design and development by the initials ‘XK’. The pioneering XK120 was succeeded by the XK140 in 1954. By the time of the XK140’s introduction, the racing C-type Jaguars had won Le Mans twice, which created great publicity for the company. The XK140 retained the classic shape and became a more refined car. The XK140 was powered by the William Heynes designed 3.4 litre double overhead camshaft inline-6 engine with the Special Equipment modifications from the XK120. This resulted in an output of 190 bhp @ 5500 rpm. The appeal of XK’s today is probably based on such intangibles as nostalgia and style, but they can be very practical cars. The performance, even by today’s standards, is highly respectable. 1956 Jaguar XK140 Drophead Very Superior Old Cars If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1973-ferrari-365-gtb4-daytona-by-scaglietti
FERRARI’S SPECTACULAR 365 GTB/4 A paragon of 20th Century sports car design, Ferrari’s 365 GTB/4 featured revolutionary styling by Leonardo Fioravanti, unlike anything else yet created in the company’s history, and marked their first use of a 4.3-liter dual-overhead-cam engine in a road car. Actually a stopgap model while a forthcoming rear-engine, flat-twelve model remained in development, it surprised everyone with its sheer success, and developed a special, lasting cachet among the marque’s vintage front-engined V-12 berlinettas. With a staggering output of 352 horsepower, the 365 GTB/4 dethroned the Lamborghini Miura as the world’s fastest production car. Utilizing dry-sump lubrication that enabled a lower placement of the engine, a five-speed transaxle that provided ideal 50/50 weight distribution, and all-wheel independent suspension, the Daytona offered crisp handling characteristics at speed. Wide wheels with superior tire contact and four-wheel disc brakes rounded out a superb all-around package that eventually proved worthy of competition applications. As the final front-engine Ferrari to feature a derivation of Gioacchino Colombo’s classic short-block V-12, the Daytona was the ultimate evolution of 20 years of development, constituting the triumphant conclusion of a generation of vintage Ferraris. Such was its performance that it was nicknamed Daytona, honoring Ferrari’s dominating 1-2-3 podium sweep in the 1967 24 Hours of Daytona, something that became a point of legend—even if the name was not officially sanctioned by Enzo Ferrari. CHASSIS NUMBER 16943 Marque authority Marcel Massini notes that the 365 GTB/4 Daytona offered here, chassis number 16943, was completed on 23 October 1973, and delivered to East Coast distributor Luigi Chinetti Motors of Greenwich, Connecticut. Massini indicates that the car may have been exhibited by Lake Forest, Illinois, dealer Knauz Continental at the 66th Annual Chicago International Auto Show in the spring of 1974. Actual final delivery was not until that September, when yet another famed Ferrari impresario, Algar Enterprises of Paoli, Pennsylvania, sold the car to Ian S. Murray, a vice-president of the agricultural commodities brokerage firm, Cook Industries, in Memphis, Tennessee. By 1976 the car was in the ownership of Frederick Fitzgerald, who advertised it in both the New York Times and AutoWeek as having 3,100 miles and “never driven in rain.” It was sold in 1977 to the partnership of Dick Barbour and O. Edgar Rouhe of California, eventually passing to Mr. Rouhe alone; he retained ownership of the car for nine years. It then passed to Bruno Broseghini and then to longtime Ferrari connoisseur and enthusiast, Charles T. Wegner, returning to Illinois with 3,980 miles. Mr. Wegner sold the car in 1995 to Arthur E. Coia II of Providence, Rhode Island, who the following year had it refinished to the original color by Shelton Ferrari in Fort Lauderdale, Florida—still the most major work that the Ferrari has received in its low-mileage life. Mr. Coia occasionally exhibited the car, including winning its Platinum award at the Cavallino Classic in Palm Beach in 1999. In 2004, chassis number 16943 passed to Marc Fisher of Greenwich, Connecticut, who repeated its Platinum at the Cavallino Classic four years later. After keeping the car for nine years, he sold it to another East Coast enthusiast, beginning a series of short-term ownerships, eventually culminating with its arrival in the present significant collection in the summer of 2014. It has remained in good company there for the last decade. It is in beautiful condition for its age, with satisfying originality of components (including the numbers-matching engine and gearbox) throughout, as noted in the accompanying Ferrari Classiche Red Book issued in 2024. Displaying only 5,710 miles at time of cataloguing, believed to be its original mileage since new, this Daytona remains original and unrestored aside from the aforementioned refinish to its correct color. In addition to its Ferrari Classiche Red Book, it is accompanied by its original warranty card. Surely one of the lowest-mileage Daytonas available, this car has led the sedate life that all deserved but few did, and is worthy of the finest collection. 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona by Scaglietti RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. By the mid-1950s, the cost of maintaining a factory race team was straining the company’s bank account. Wanting to refocus its efforts on road cars that would earn a potential profit, the factory racing programme was temporarily put on hold in 1958. The marque continued to support privateers while attentions turned to balancing the books through a line of luxurious road-going models. Development of Maserati’s first purpose-built road car, the 3500 GT, took place starting in 1956. Introduced at the 1957 Geneva Motor Show, the first few completed cars were delivered at the very end of 1957. Featuring an elegant 2+2 design by Giulio Alfieri, the Superleggara hand-formed aluminium-over-tubular frame coachwork was created by Carrozzeria Touring. Maserati’s 3,500-cc race-bred engine was converted to wet sump and tuned for street use. The 3500 GT was a success, and the handsome grand touring car helped the company turn a profit. It stayed in production until 1964 after a little under 2,000 coupés were made, paving the way for the great GT models for years to come. The example offered here is believed to have been delivered new to the United States as one of the last 3500 GT coupés finished in 1960. The early production car is marked out by its Weber carburettor set-up, with later versions notably becoming the first Italian-made production car to use a fuel injection system. Through Maserati ownership registries, it is believed that chassis AM101*998 was once owned by prominent US-based collectors, Herb Young and Alan Cordan. The car was later owned by a keeper in Connecticut before joining its next owner some years later. Under their guidance, the Maserati was restored by a Connecticut-based workshop. This included rebuilding the braking system, carburettors, engine, and suspension while reviewing the electrical system. A new fuel tank was also installed. The interior was reupholstered in black leather, the driver’s seat rails were extended to accommodate taller occupants, while many instruments around the dashboard were either restored or renewed. The Maserati was acquired at auction in 2019 and brought to the UK one year later. An invoice on file notes that the car was taken to Neil Twyman for mechanical fine-tuning for its new owner. An excellent alternative to a contemporary Aston Martin or Ferrari, the charming 3500 GT helped return Maserati to prosperity and further cement its name in the post-war sports car world. Benefitting from a recent restoration, this example would make a fine addition to any collection. 1960 Maserati 3500 GT by Touring RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing
For many automotive enthusiasts, the story of the modern supercar starts with the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. Debuting in 1954, the model teamed a beautiful aesthetic, capped off by those statement “gullwing” doors dictated by the lightweight tubular frame construction, with a performance punch from the 2,996-cc M198 straight-six engine. Making 215 horsepower to yield a top speed of 163 mph, it was recognised as the fastest production car in the world. Naturally, such a legacy ensures that every 300 SL is significant. However, the car offered here holds a particularly exceptional and fascinating backstory. A very early example, chassis 198.040.4500012 was built on 24 September 1954. Originally specified in the signature shade of Silver Grey Metallic over a blue vinyl and blue plaid fabric interior, according to its factory data card, it was a designated “Standwagen” (show car) and destined for “Automobil-Salon, London”. The records further note that it was fitted with engine number 198.980.4500022. During October 1954, it was driven from the marque’s Stuttgart headquarters straight to the United Kingdom to feature on the Mercedes-Benz stand for the 39th edition of the International Motor Exhibition held at London’s Earls Court; a sister Gullwing served as a demonstrator at the event. This very Gullwing attracted the world’s press, was photographed by many, and filmed by British Pathé as the revolutionary doors drew a crowd. There, this road-going evolution of the W194 endurance racer also caught the attention of celebrated privateer Formula 1 and sportscar team boss Rob Walker, who became the first British customer to purchase a 300 SL, buying this car directly off the stand. However, he would never take delivery. Per the account of Ron W Waghorn, employed with Mercedes-Benz Great Britain and tasked with looking after Walker’s cars, this example was swiftly taken to the roads around Hatfield to be shaken down by a group of engineers. A short while later, their Mercedes-Benz colleagues were met not with the returning Gullwing but by the police, who relayed that in damp and slippery conditions on the A1, chassis 198.040.4500012 had lost control and spun backwards into a tree. The rear bodywork and spare wheel bore the brunt of the impact. Accordingly, the car was returned to Germany to be repaired. Finally, in May 1955, the 300 SL was registered for the road for the first time to serve as a demonstrator for Mercedes-Benz GB and given the registration number “RGO 30”, which it retains to this day. In January 1956, the Gullwing was purchased by Carr & Co’s Noel Carr, a racing driver heir to the Carr’s Biscuits fortune who operated as a spare-time car dealer. Seven months later, Carr sold this Gullwing to its first private owner, Mr Charles Gardner. Having bought the car on 24 August 1956, the Gullwing would later spend around 20 years off the road and stored in a barn at his Sussex apple farm. Mr Gardner then transferred the car to his daughter, who re-registered it in France. Eventually, in October 2000, the Gullwing returned to the UK under the custodianship of Mr Gardner’s son, and it has remained in his family ever since. The consigning family then co-ordinated a five-year body-off restoration that spanned November 2005 to April 2010. At this point, the odometer was reset. Since the rebuild, this wonderful 300 SL has been repeatedly serviced by leading classic Mercedes-Benz specialist Kevin O’Keeffe, while Martin Cushway rebuilt the gearbox in 2015 before HK Engineering overhauled the differential in September 2021. The Gullwing heads to auction following an August 2024 service, having also passed an MoT with no advisories shown. Refinished in its original colour combination and complemented by the rare and highly desirable Rudge centre-lock wheels akin to how it featured at the Earls Court Motor Show, plus workshop manual, and extensive document file, this very early 300 SL Gullwing boasts a remarkable history in addition to retaining its matching-numbers chassis, body, and engine. Due to the pre-production nature of this Gullwing, its build sheet does not contain other numbered component records, however the front kingpins and differential all date from 1954. Furthermore, this Gullwing retains various features distinct to early examples. Thanks to MoT certificates on file dating back to 1977, the car is believed to have a total mileage of approximately 54,00 from new, with the Gullwing recorded at 40,483 before undergoing restoration. Having captured the world’s imagination at Earls Court some 70 years ago, chassis 198.040.4500012 is very likely to be the last “Standwagen” to be offered from single private ownership. A truly tantalising opportunity, this richly historied Gullwing would be an extremely rewarding prospect for its next owner. 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. Victor Gauntlett is a key figure in the long history of Aston Martin, helping to steer the company through a difficult period in the early 1980s and staying on as chairman after the Ford takeover in 1987. He was also a keen enthusiast and a discerning collector, and he owned this DB2 on two separate occasions. Chassis number LML/50/396 was built on 11 April 1953 as a right-hand-drive, UK-market car. The Heritage Certificate notes that it was Black with Beige trim, and that it wasdispatched on 23 April to Brooklands of Bond St, London. The registration number that it still wears today – PAR 651 – was issued in Hertfordshire. A black-and-white photograph in its file shows the car competing at Prescott hillclimb during the 1950s, and it was later owned by John Donner – another well-known collector who was noted for the quality of his restorations. Elsewhere in the file is a set of photographs documenting a rebuild during Donner’s ownership, in which the car was stripped all the way down to a bare chassis and its bodywork taken back to bare metal. The DB2 was then acquired by Victor Gauntlett, whose son Richard has fond memories of high-speed runs in this car, including a cross-country drive from Essex to Gloucestershire in tandem with his father, who was at the wheel of his Blower Bentley. Even though Victor subsequently sold the Aston Martin, it must have made quite an impression on him because he bought it back only five months later. In 1995, the DB2 played a central role in the Aston Martin Owners’ Club Diamond Jubilee celebrations, and was one of a select group of cars that were displayed inside the Dorchester Hotel in London during the Grand Jubilee Ball. It was subsequently bought from Gauntlett by a marque enthusiast as part of a small collection, and in 2010 its engine was rebuilt by Rex J Woodgate Automotive Consultants. Now superbly presented in green with red wheels, this Aston Martin DB2 boasts a fascinating ownership history and is a fine example of this charismatic 1950s sports saloon.
