- 1994 Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI DTM
Widely viewed as the most spectacular and exciting manifestation of the 1990s touring car boom, the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) was blessed with star drivers, significant manufacturer involvement and, crucially, excellent promotion. In 1993, the series adopted the Class 1 FIA ruleset, which permitted the development of high-revving, multi-cylinder engines, advanced four-wheel-drive systems and outrageous-yet-aerodynamically efficient “silhouette” bodywork. Such technical latitude was instrumental in Alfa Romeo’s decision to join the series with its stunning 2.5-litre, V6-powered, four-wheel-drive 155 V6 TI model. Remarkably, the marque’s new charge took 14 wins in its debut year and defeated the rival Works-backed AMG-Mercedes and Joest-Opel teams to secure the 1993 title in the hands of Nicola Larini. Alfa Romeo returned to the series in 1994; its principal Alfa Corse squad was supported once again by the three-car, semi-Works Schübel Engineering team. Although benefitting from significant technical improvements—including a new Kelsey-Hayes ABS system and Active Suspension—Alfa Romeo’s campaign was blighted by poor reliability; Mercedes-Benz securing the 1994 title courtesy of Klaus Ludwig, with Larini no better than 3rd in the final standings. The spectacular example offered here—chassis number SE057-004—is one of just 10 examples of the 1994-specification car constructed by Alfa Corse, and one of the three cars campaigned by Schübel. Driven exclusively by Grand Prix veteran Christian Danner, it secured no fewer than 14 points-scoring finishes, including two superb 2nd-placed finishes at May’s Nürburgring Eifelrennen round. An eventual 9th place in the 1994 DTM standings was further supplemented by a 3rd-placed finish in the first of two non-Championship races in Mugello, Italy. In 1995, chassis 004 passed into the hands of the Arese-based Euroteam squad, for whom Danner’s Formula 1 contemporary Stefano Modena piloted it in the first four races of that year’s DTM. Appropriately, the car’s competitive career concluded on a high note, with a 5th and a 2nd at Avus in early May; the car returning to Alfa Corse for display purposes thereafter. In 2017, 004 was subjected to an exacting “bare metal“ restoration by marque expert Fabrizio Pandolfi and has covered only minimal mileage since. Acquired by the present owner in 2018, it is accompanied by a spares package that includes a spare engine, two gearboxes and a spare front differential, as well as its original Wagenpass. 1994 Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI DTM RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1953 Alfa Romeo 1900 CS Pinin Farina Berlinetta
Launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1950, the Alfa Romeo 1900 was a significant advance for the growing company. The 1900 was the first Alfa Romeo designed and built for production assembly and the first Alfa Romeo available in left-hand drive. Offered in four-door Berlina and two-door Sprint variants, the 1900 was initially powered by a 1,884cc, 4-cylinder twin cam engine producing a capable 90 horsepower. Racing victories in the Targa Florio and Stella Alpina rallies lead to Alfa Romeo marketing and promoting the 1900 as “the family car that wins races”. In 1951, Alfa Romeo released the shorter 2.5-meter wheelbase 1900C, followed quickly by a more powerful engine option, the 1900 “Sprint”. The Sprint was equipped with a bored-out 1,900cc engine producing 100 horsepower. Approximately 100 of the performance-oriented, short-wheelbase 1900s were delivered with the more powerful Sprint engines to famed Italian coachbuilder Pinin Farina. Pinin Farina designed the very elegant coupe body known as the 1900 “Corto” Sprint. The unique platform design and performance engine enticed other notable coachbuilders including Touring, Zagato, and Bertone, however the Pinin Farina design, with its pure lines and ideal proportions, delivers a handsome and balanced profile ideally paired with state-of-the-art twin-cam performance. Under former ownership, the prior owner purchased this 1900 CS from an esteemed Northern California collector to accompany multiple highly prized vehicles in his personal collection. Having enlisted expert Raffi Najjarian of The Pit Stop, a great deal of work was performed on the car’s mechanical components including an engine rebuild beyond CSS specifications. This rebuild included the installation of a CSS crankshaft, larger pistons, dual Weber 44 DCO carburetors feeding into an Abarth intake manifold, and new exhaust. Additional work included the installation of an oil cooler, electric fuel pump, new fuel tank, and a supplementary electric cooling fan, all of which further required upgrading the electrical system with new wiring. Substantial time was further spent improving the car’s driving dynamics. Inclusive of the suspension rebuild, all new Alfin drum brakes were installed, while the front A-arms were updated with 2500 series units and a rebuilt steering box. The original column mounted four-speed transmission was replaced with a floor mounted five-speed gearbox and a new clutch. As the mechanical work was completed, the engine bay was detailed and carefully finished using as many authentic components as possible. In 2018, the car was offered for sale by Fantasy Junction. A few years later, the owner passed away and the car was auctioned by Bonhams in 2020, at which time, the current and consigning owner purchased the car. Under current ownership, this Alfa Romeo has benefited from new leather seat reupholstery, new carpet, a valve job for the twin cam head, general mechanical freshening, and excellent paint correction to high driver level. As an added performance feature, this 1900 is outfitted with exhaust cutouts which can be engaged manually from behind the driver’s seat. These levers bypass the mufflers delivering a more vigorous exhaust note. Today this handsome Pinin Farina 1900 CS presents with a quality high gloss vivid red finish ideal for events and tours. Panel fit is generally good, in keeping with period construction. The doors open and shut easily, while the lightweight alloy hood and trunk raise and lower without issue. A few superficial stone chips are visible in the front facing areas, though none affect the overall high driver level presentation. The windshield and side glass, many of which bear the original glass Securit brand marks, present nicely including the unique sweeping wrap around rear window. The grille and eyebrow openings were re-chromed during the refresh, still offering excellent reflections and smooth finish. The rear bumpers and chrome trunk handle are also very nicely presented. The absence of further garnish molding and chrome trim is a welcome relief from often overdone cars of this period. In keeping with the performance theme, the car is finished with beautiful Borrani wire wheels. Under prior ownership, all four wheels and the matching spare wheel were rebuilt and powder-coated in silver finish. The wheels are finished with correct chrome plated dual ear knock-offs with correctly sized 2019 date-coded Michelin tires. The interior reflects the performance lineage of these exceptional cars with a focus on spirited driving. The seat supports were refinished under current ownership along with new carpet. The newly reupholstered leather covered rally-style Zagato seats complete the performance picture, giving excellent lateral support, particularly when compared to the original style bench seats. The cloth headliner and sun visors are clean and taut, while the rear parcel shelf and leather straps offer a nice finishing touch to the interior. The upgraded 5-speed manual gearbox is very well positioned, wrapped in a leather boot, and topped with a polished alloy shift knob. The dashboard features correct instrumentation with clean lenses, crisp numbers, and handsome lettering. A safety kill switch is located under the left side of the dash. The interior is handsomely finished overall with a period correct flat Nardi wooden steering wheel, accented by the Alfa Romeo center insignia. The trunk is nicely finished in satin black with a proper textured floor mat, and a distinctive optional touch – a handheld Marchal spotlight, convenient for rally road repairs, particularly effective in evening or sunset events. The engine compartment has been nicely maintained since the rebuild and recent valve job. Correct finishes, authentic parts, proper lines and materials, and uniform finishes now display slight patina resulting from modest use. During the rebuild, the engine was upgraded with twin 44DCO (No. 13 and 15) Weber carburetors and an Abarth intake manifold. A FISPA air cleaner was installed along with the Weber carburetors. The undercarriage presents with no evidence of structural compromise and while not detailed for show, all components are clean, dry, and tidy. Of note, the upgraded 2500 series front suspension and shock absorbers add to the handling and performance of this car. The car starts with ease and warms to a nice throaty idle. Driving manners are quite good under general road use, but greatly enhanced with the 5-speed gearbox, improved front suspension, and power upgrades to the engine. The engine operates with good oil pressure and proper running temperatures. The brakes operate confidently with good pedal pressure and the steering is generally good but has slight play at top dead center. The driving experience in this Alfa Romeo 1900 benefits from the upgraded floor mounted 5-speed with ratios ideally spaced for road or highway use. Accompanying the car is a set of tools wrapped in a period correct cloth roll, a restored jack, a Marchal spotlight, and a matching spare wire wheel. This is a great opportunity to acquire an event eligible rare Pinin Farina bodied Alfa Romeo combining professionally refined mechanical improvements and delightful visual presentation, enhanced by thoughtful performance upgrades. For those who admire hand-built coachwork, state of the art engineering, and exciting driving, this Alfa Romeo 1900 CS is sure to deliver ongoing rewards uniquely delivered in vintage automobile ownership experiences. 1953 Alfa Romeo 1900 CS Berlinetta Fantasy Junction If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. Uncovered from a New Jersey home workshop in late 2019, remarkably preserved from limited ownership, AR1495*0351, this Giulietta Veloce Spider represents an exciting offering for the most discerning collector and Alfista purists. Upon closer inspection, it appears the Spider retains numerous original attributes and equipment specific to an early preserved 750F. - 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA 1600
The Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA Behold the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA, the history-steeped Italian marque’s fabled touring car. Timelessly styled by Bertone, the GTA’s body was crafted from a new-fangled and very light alloy dreamt up by Alfa’s Servizio Esperienze Carpenteria, comprising aluminium, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc. Once the magnesium wheels, Perspex windows, aluminium suspension components and lightweight door handles (yes, really) were thrown into the mix, the Giulia Sprint tipped the scales at a mere 740kg, earning the car its Gran Turismo Alleggerita (Italian for lightweight) nomenclature. The GTA’s weight – or rather lack of – equated to nimbleness. And the legendary 1,570cc twin-spark engine, fed by two twin-barrel Weber carburettors, equated to speed. Alfa’s intentions for the Giulia Sprint was for it to win races. And win races it most certainly did. The factory’s decorated racing outfit Autodelta enjoyed great success with the GTA, clinching European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) titles in 1966, ’67 and ’68. And the factory’s more potent GTA 1300 Junior and GTAm scored a further two ETCC victories in 1970 and ’71. Chassis no. 752540 One of just 501 GTA 1600s constructed, chassis AR 752540 was completed at the fabled Arese works on 22 July 1965. Factory archives detail its finish in the quintessential GTA colour scheme of Rosso with Nero interior. On 2 March 1966 the car was dispatched to US Importers Alfa Romeo Inc. of Newark, New Jersey. It was one of just 14 right-hand drive GTAs exported to the US that year. This select batch of cars were intended primarily for use in the burgeoning Trans-American Sedan Championship – colloquially known as ‘Trans-Am’ – as logic suggested that their configuration would offer superior weight distribution on the predominantly clockwise US tracks. Supplied to first owner Dick Peritz of Little Neck, New York via Brooklyn-based agents Carmelo Giuffre Alfa Romeo, 752540 made its competition debut on 19 June 1966 in the SCCA Regional meeting at Bridgehampton, New York. Driven by Peritz himself, the pair finished a fine second in class and third overall in the Sedan race, beaten only by future Sports Car luminaries Bob Tullius and Tony Adamowicz. Three weeks later, the car was entered for the third round of the 1966 Trans-Am series at Bryar, New Hampshire; the 250-mile race representing a noticeable step up both in duration and prestige. Facing Lotus-Cortina mounted opposition from the likes of Frank Gardner, Sir John Whitmore and ultimate winner Allan Moffat, Peritz acquitted himself well, finishing sixth in the under-2 litre category and 11th overall. The series reconvened at Virginia International Raceway in late July for the VIR 400; a two driver, 400-mile blast through the undulating countryside outside Danville, Virginia. Alfa Romeo’s early season form saw the Lotus-Cortina attack bolstered by Jacky Ickx and Richard Attwood, while the entry list also featured – somewhat incongruously – local NASCAR stars Richard Petty, David Pearson and Curtis Turner in the over 2-litre class. If Ford’s eventual Mustang 1-2, after more than five hours of racing, was emphatic, then so too was Alfa Romeo’s performance in the under 2-litre category; GTAs accounting for the entire class podium. With Peritz ably assisted by fellow New Yorker Gerry Dorman on this occasion, 752540 finished a creditable ninth in class and 12th overall. Following a comprehensive rebuild over the winter of 1966/67, the GTa was duly repainted mid-blue. Gerry Dorman drove the revamped car to a class win at the SCCA meeting at Lime Rock, Connecticut in May 1967, before once again partnering Peritz to finish 18th overall – and eighth in class – in the 4 Hours of Mont Tremblant the following weekend. Acquired by Dorman from Peritz in mid-1967, 752540 practised for the 4 Hours of Lime Rock–round 4 of that year’s Trans-Am Championship–but did not race; this event marking the last known involvement of either with the car. It is understood that it was subsequently repurchased by original supplier Carmelo Giuffre, and that he contested the 1970 Trans-Am round at Lime Rock, albeit retiring after just six laps. By 1978, 752540 had been acquired by Pennsylvania-based enthusiast Bill Winne, who registered the car in his home State prior to its sale in 1981 to Californian Al Cortes. After more than a decade in the Golden State – during which time it had commenced historic racing in the hands of erstwhile owner Joey Mazzotta – the car returned to Italy in 1992, when purchased by Pier Enrico Tonetti. Having retained the car for some 19 years–and converted it to left-hand drive form–Sig. Tonetti then sold 752540 to renowned Italian car connoisseur Dr. Paul Schouwenberg of Haarlem, Netherlands in 2011, who in turn sold it to Charles ‘Chuck’ Wegner of Del Mar, California, in 2015. An esteemed collector of rare and interesting Ferraris, Mr. Wegner opted to sell 752540 to the present owner in 2017; his decision being prompted–not unreasonably–by the imminent arrival of no lesser car than a Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder. Retained, raced and enjoyed by the vendor ever since, 752540 has benefitted from fastidious preparation by marque specialists GPS Classic; the total expenditure during the current ownership amounting to some €225,000. Brilliantly conceived, exquisitely executed and hugely successful in period–as evidenced by six ETCC crowns in seven years, and Under 2-litre Trans-Am titles in 1966 and 1970 – the GTA indubitably remains one of the all-time Touring Car greats. In the case of this magnificently presented example, these attributes are further supplemented by its fascinating competition history, comprehensive accompanying documentation and exhaustive recent maintenance. Finally, its enormous versatility – and eligibility for events as diverse as the Tour Auto, Spa 6 Hours, Goodwood Revival and Monterey Historics – render it the consummate Historic Racing ‘all-rounder’, and one assuredly worthy of inclusion in any appropriately discerning car collection. 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA 1600 Girardo & Co. - 1959 Jaguar Lister Knobbly
"If I had an hour to live, the last car I would drive is a 1959 Lister Knobbly!" - Chris Harris Lister Knobbly, developed with an oblique eye on the principle of the Jaguar C & D type. The Knobbly got its name from its distinctive curved body, consisting of aluminum panels and a tubular steel chassis. At the time, the car was designed to shoot lightly and aerodynamically through the fresh British air. With a low center of gravity and good weight distribution, you steer through the Goodwood Circuit's tricky curves with perfection. The Knobbly was powered by a range of engines. The Lister with Corvette engine went to America, the Maserati six-cylinder to Italy and Jaguar XK six-cylinder was allowed to stay in England. The most famous Knobbly models were powered by the Jaguar engine, which produced up to 250 horsepower as standard and could propel the car above 250 kilometers per hour. Our impressive Lister Knobbly is officially a recreation. Built from an official chassis. Then the original Lister body assembly was met at Bob Smiths. This was done very expertly, even to the point that Mr. Lister himself has spoken in praise. Sure, we can prove it! In addition, approved with matching FIVA/FEHAC, Historic Technical Passport and homologation. This Lister has a prepared 3.8 liter Jaguar XK engine. Delivers more than 300 horsepower equipped with three double Weber carburetors, dion rear axle with disc brakes against the differential, aluminum radiator and fuel tank, Dunlop racing wheels, Kenlowe cooling fan and electric fuel pump. This Lister has a special past of which we are well aware, Curious? - 1963 Jaguar E-Type Series 3
The Jaguar Etype series 1 OTS 3.8. A car from the time when smoking was still healthy and television only had one channel. The most important thing from that time; the time when driving was still really driving, without aids or sensation-enhancing nonsense! The design of the series 1 is praised to this day, and Enzo Ferrari called it the most beautiful car ever made. If you walk around the MoMA in New York City (Museum of Modern Art) today, you will automatically come across this car; the OTS series 1 E-type. This E-type is enchanting and could easily enter the museum. The perfect chrome stands out on the glossy British Racing Green paint, and the recognizable beautiful series 1 interior with black leather. A car that is not elevated to art, but what art is. Form over function, but damn functional and fun! In 2012, she joined a passionate restorer in Oslo who restored the car to perfection himself. Every aspect of the car has been carefully selected, thoroughly examined and masterfully restored. The restorer, a true perfectionist, has even written his reasoning for each photo. His pursuit of perfection has definitely paid off. A true masterpiece. In 2023 the car was extensively maintained again, with the same passion and dedication that went into the restoration, to ensure that it remains in optimal condition. A car from the time when smoking was still healthy and television only had one channel. The most important thing from that time; the time when driving was still really driving, without aids or sensation-enhancing nonsense! - 1988 Ford Sierra RS500
Ex-Guy Edwards, 1988 BTCC, Andy Rouse-built 'Group A' Sierra Cosworth, returned to the UK a few years ago and the subject of much recent expenditure. Offered here is one of the two legendary Kaliber 'Group A' Sierra Cosworths built by Andy Rouse Engineering for the 1988 British Touring Car Championship. Chassis #ARE KAL 0988 was built and used during the 1988 season and driven predominately by Guy Edwards to four podium finishes. Throughout the season, the Kaliber Sierras were the cars to beat and, in a golden era, the spectacle of these seriously powerful touring cars belching flames helped define a magnificent chapter of saloon car racing. At the end of the season, these winning cars were very much in demand with one being sold to Peter Brock and #0988 was purchased by Adrian Fu who took it to the Far East and raced it at Macau and in various rounds of the Asia Pacific Series. #0988 then left Asia bound for Australia where it was entered in the 1992 James Hardie at Bathhurst for drivers Ken Matthews, Rod Jones and Mike Newton. After the race, it remained at the circuit and was displayed in the Bathurst Museum for a while until purchased in 1993 by its previous owner, an accomplished Kiwi racing driver and businessman. After some re-engineering by Peter Brock, he raced the Sierra in the New Zealand Endurance Championship with wins at Timaru International Motor Speedway and Teretonga helping him and co-driver Murray Cleland win the Championship in 1996. Remaining within the same ownership, the Sierra enjoyed a period of retirement until 2016/17 when it was decided that the car should be totally rebuilt and returned to its original UK livery with the possibility of running in Archibald’s Historic car series in NZ, which it later did most successfully. In period, the car had been continuously developed and evolved with input from Australia's favourite son, Peter Brock, and all this hard-won know-how was incorporated into the 2017 rebuild. The specification, at the time, included the original Zytec system which benefited from various upgrades, primarily enlarging the fuel delivery capacity. The engine was a new, long-stud, 205 block designed to run with 2.1 bar boost producing around 540bhp with much of the engineering development the responsibility of renowned tuner, Ivan Tighe of Brisbane, with particular attention being paid to cam profiling and reliability. Much of the suspension work was carried out by specialists, Harrop Engineering of Brunswick in Victoria, applying new manufacturing processes to the Peter Brock suspension. The Brock driveshafts which, in the day were recognised as twisting less than any other preparers, were reverse-engineered. Both driveshafts were new and the rear end was rebuilt with new bearings. Our New Zealand owner decided that the Sierra should be offered for sale in the UK and was sold in 2019 by ourselves to a well respected UK historic race team who have carried out extensive work to ensure this RS500 is race-ready and competitive. The work included a top-specification Harvey Gibbs engine that has only done three laps of Silverstone. It has a rebuilt Getrag gearbox and differential, a new heated front screen is fitted, all of the safety equipment is in date and the car is complete with fresh FIA/HTP papers On the button, this iconic Kaliber Sierra RS500 is ready to race or test accompanied by a basic spares package and wheels. A further inventory of spares will be available by separate treaty to the next owner. Superbly prepared and a certain front runner in the best historic events in the UK and around the world. 1988 Ford Sierra RS500 Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1970 Ferrari 512 M
When the Group 6 regulations changed in 1968—suddenly requiring engines to be no greater than 3.0 litres in displacement—Enzo Ferrari decided not to compete. By 1969, the requirements had changed again, and a loophole created, which rival marque Porsche took full advantage of with the advent of the 917. Following Fiat’s partial acquisition of Ferrari, its company founder took the influx of much-needed cash and ploughed it into developing a sports prototype that could compete against the Porsche 917 in the 1970 racing season. Dubbed the 512 S, only 25 cars were built and powered by a brand new 5.0-litre V-12 engine producing 552 horsepower. Ferrari rushed to meet the homologation requirement of 25 cars, presenting 17 complete cars with eight knock-down kits to the homologation authorities in January 1970, just in time to compete at the 24 Hours of Daytona. Chassis 1030 was one of the 17 Ferrari 512 S that would compete in the 1970 endurance racing season. It was sold new in the spring of 1970 to the Belgian Ferrari concessionaire and racing team, Ecurie Francorchamps. The bodywork was painted Giallo, the only 512 to receive this colour (save for chassis 1002, which was painted Lemon Yellow). Making its debut on 17 May 1970, drivers Derek Bell and Hugues de Fierlant qualified in 7th and finished 8th overall at the 1000 Km of Spa. Their next outing was over the 13 and 14 June for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where Alistair Walker and de Fierlant placed an impressive 5th overall and 4th in the 5.0-litre class. That autumn, chassis 1030 made its bow on the big screen, deployed by Steve McQueen for the filming of Le Mans. It then headed to South Africa for the 9 Hours of Kyalami, where it finished 6th overall and 3rd in class. For the 1971 season, on 10 January, Gustave Gosselin and de Fierlandt entered the 1000 Km of Buenos Aires. Sporting race number “18”, the Belgian duo finished 6th overall and 4th in class. The pair returned to the Americas over 30 and 31 January to compete in the 24 Hours of Daytona. They qualified in 11th but during the race they were forced to retire on the 124th lap due to oil pressure issues. Following Daytona, chassis 1030 returned to Belgium, where it became one of the 15 Ferrari 512s to be upgraded to ‘M’ specifications; the ‘M’ standing for modificata. The new engine was reduced in weight, given more efficient cylinder heads, and now produced 610 horsepower. New lower bodywork improved the aerodynamics and was finished again in yellow. Following its upgrade, Ecurie Francorchamps fielded the car in the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans, with Alain de Cadenet driving with de Fierlant. Qualifying in 10th, with six-hundredths separating them from 6th place, the duo unfortunately suffered from gearbox issues and were forced to retire early. The next outing on 4 July was far more successful, with de Fierlant claiming outright victory at Zandvoort in the Coupes Benelux. Later that month, de Cadenet and Lothar Motschenbacher raced in the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen, placing 4th overall and 3rd in their class. The following day, de Cadenet finished 18th in the Can-Am race. This marked the end of chassis 1030’s racing days, and the car was acquired by de Cadenet, who in turn sold to British collector Neil Corner that year, who later sold the car to Lord Anthony Bamford in 1972. Lord Bamford entered the 512 M into the MN GT championship that year, with all seven appearances resulting in 1st-place finishes. Since the 1970s, chassis 1030 has been owned by various renowned collectors across the globe, and was acquired by the consignor in 2018, remaining as part of his private collection. Today, the car sports its 1971 livery and is still painted in the fabulous Francorchamps yellow. It is accompanied by a report from the marque historian Marcel Massini while the car was certified by Ferrari Classiche in 2005, and is accompanied by its "Red Book". It should be noted that chassis 1030 is widely considered one of the finest examples of the Ferrari 512 M, having never suffered a major collision in period. The vehicle is a wonderful example of preservation. 1970 Ferrari 512 M RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
