- 1984 Lamborghini Countach LP5000 S
Land-based spaceship The wide, well-sighted road opens before you. An opportunity. As you squeeze the firm throttle pedal with a slow but decisive shove, so the bellowing twelve-cylinder concerto begins to ring out behind you. The audible volume and urgency rises with the thick red needle on the right-hand tachometer. The deliciously long ratios are interrupted only by changes – an action which itself requires a positive throw across the open gate to your right, positioned at what feels like chest height thanks to the ground-hugging reclined seats (themselves objects of sheer Postmodern beauty). There’s really no other word to describe the experience of driving a Lamborghini Countach than theatrical. But for all the gasps, growls, pops, bangs and hisses, this land-based spaceship is not the intimidating, machismo, anxiety-inducing supercar you’d be led to believe. “But for all the gasps, growls, pops, bangs and hisses, this land-based spaceship is not the intimidating, machismo, anxiety-inducing supercar you’d be led to believe.” Yes, you need to sit on the sill to reverse park and it’s not a car you can hesitate with – in a Countach you need to be positive. But from the driver’s seat, forward visibility is fantastic thanks to the short nose which tapers downward. The torque-laden engine makes low-speed driving a doddle. And the cabin is spacious and comfortable. Countach production was long at 16 years (1974 to 1990) and there were a number of different variants. In our opinion, the LP5000S is the sweet spot, with the dramatic flared styling and full-fat 4.75-litre 375bhp V12, fed by six insatiably thirsty double-barrel Weber carburetors. When it was introduced in 1982, the LP5000S (or LP500S dependent on which market) was the third iteration of the Countach, following the LP400 Periscopio and the LP400 S, the latter of which received the comically flared wheel arches. But the addition of the larger 4.75-litre twelve-cylinder, still with 24 valves, finally gave the model the beating heart it deserved. At the time, it was the fastest accelerating, most powerful and most torquey Lamborghini of them all. Over four decades on, the LP5000S represents a desirable proposition for today’s collectors – with only 321 produced, this iteration of the Countach is twice as rare as the LP5000 QV and 25th Anniversary models which followed, yet considerably less valuable than the original LP400 Periscopio. It’s the model which truly turned the Countach into a poster pinup for an entire generation. Chassis number 12740 An LP5000S model which left the Lamborghini factory in Sant’Agata on 7 July 1984, this Countach – chassis number 12740 – was delivered new to Monaco, finished in Bianco over an oh-so-1980s Bianco interior. Crucially, the original owner went against the grain and opted not to fit the rear wing, which preserved the 182mph top speed. In 1996, the car was imported to California on the West Coast of America and, amusingly, registered with the number ‘BIG LAMB’ – fitting, right? Chassis 12740 remained in California for 20 years, changing hands once and, as the wealth of invoices accompanying the car demonstrate, always diligently maintained. A full engine rebuild was carried out in 2013, costing in excess of 30,000 US dollars. In 2016, this Countach joined the collection of a prominent Lamborghini collector in Germany, which comprised everything from a tractor to LM002 and a Diablo VT 6.0. Said collector promptly sent the car to Top Motors Salvioli, the longstanding Lamborghini specialist in Modena, for a mechanical inspection and service. At this time the gearbox was rebuilt with new seals and synchros, the front and rear suspension was refreshed and the carburetors were cleaned. A second Top Motors invoice details further work carried out the following year totaling 2,000 euros. Chassis number 12740 changed hands again in 2021, remaining in Germany. Lamborghini Singen carried out a service in November of the same year, which included replacement of the door seals, coolant pipes, two tyres, and an overhaul of the entire braking system. Today, this matching-numbers Lamborghini Countach LP5000S is accompanied by a generous history file comprising myriad invoices and a Certificate of Authenticity from the factory in Sant’Agata, confirming its provenance. An example which has benefitted from diligent care and maintenance throughout its life, chassis number 12740 is finished in the most desirable colour combination and drives every bit as good as it is to look at. 1984 Lamborghini Countach LP5000 S Girardo & Co. - 1979 Lotus Esprit S2
"In the early-1970s, the recently appointed Tony Rudd came up with two major ideas, codenamed Project M50 and Project M70, the former became the 1974 Lotus Elite, the latter became the Esprit. The S1 Esprit was released in 1976 following halts in production and design with Colin Chapman being underwhelmed by the model version’s wind tunnel performance, with the S2 launching in 1978. As part of the advertising and marketing program, the S2 was launched featuring an infamous shot of its creator Colin Chapman perched on a Championship Gold S2 Esprit in front of his JPS logo'd Cessna Chancellor executive twin. It's the kind of image that only the 70s could pull off with any degree of normality. External differences from the S1 included new intake and cooling ducts behind the rear quarter windows, 14in Speedline alloy wheels, taillights from the Rover SD1 and an integrated front spoiler. Not known for their practicality, more helpful changes were made including relocating the battery to the rear of the car, adding an access door to the engine cover, installing wider seats and replacing the Veglia instrument cluster with individual Smiths. Following long-term (c.20 year) storage, this S2 presents in remarkably original condition in its launch colour of Championship Gold. The Marcasite faux-Suede interior presents exceptionally well, which is no easy feat as it is notoriously hard to maintain or replace. The carbs have been subject to a full rebuild and set-up by Lotus Specialists with photographic evidence, with any old/worn parts being replaced when warranted. This lovely and well cared for example is reportedly number 10 of just 27 cars built in ‘launch specification’ and has covered a warranted 62,216 (atoc) miles from new, backed up by a host of old MOTs. This S2 runs and drives very well with very minor (yet essential) modern day upgrades such as electronic ignition, improved earthing cables and a battery isolator. Esprit's are striking looking cars anyway and the rare colour of Championship Gold lifts it even further, reflected in success at a recent Shelsley Walsh Concours and numerous magazine articles featuring HLD. It's supplied with a bespoke indoor car cover, lots of invoices and related history, an owners manual and a Lotus Certificate of Provenance." 1979 Lotus Esprit S2 Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1968 Porsche 908-004 LH
The 1968 Porsche 908-004 LH "Lang Heck" emerged from Porsche's racing division with one clear objective: endurance racing. As a successor to the 906 and 907, the 908 was meticulously engineered to tackle the era's biggest giants in motorsport. Its creation was a bold declaration, a challenge to the titans of endurance racing's zenith, most notably, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This machine wasn't just built to compete; it was forged to dominate. The 908's design focused on aerodynamic efficiency and weight reduction, making it a formidable contender on the endurance racing circuit. With the 908’s debut, Porsche signaled its challenge. Chassis 908-004 LH didn’t just participate in the World Sportscar Championship; it spearheaded Porsche’s grand assault. With every race, it weaved a narrative of speed, resilience, and pure racing prowess, clinching podiums and victories. In doing so, it didn’t just race; it became a legend, engraving its name in the annals of endurance racing lore. Its debut was nothing short of cinematic – a showcase of promise and potential at the Le Mans test weekend. The 908-004 LH wasn’t just another entrant; it was a protagonist in its own right, overcoming technical hurdles to challenge and often outpace the formidable competitors of its era. Le Mans was more than a race; it was a drama of speed and potential. Every aspect of its engineering, from the powertrain to the chassis and suspension, was crafted to create a car that could withstand the rigors of endurance racing and emerge victorious. The Porsche 908, and specifically Chassis 908-004 LH, represented a pinnacle in racing car design, characterized by its advanced technical specifications that played a crucial role in its performance on the track. The heart of the 908 was its powerful naturally aspirated 3-liter flat-8 air-cooled engine with an equally remarkable drivetrain. Its body was constructed from lightweight fiberglass, and the chassis was made of aluminum to cut its weight further. Chassis 908-004 LH reveals a vehicle designed with an uncompromising focus on performance, reliability, and efficiency. Every aspect of its engineering, from the powertrain to the chassis and suspension, was crafted to create a car that could withstand the rigors of endurance racing and emerge victorious. Now is your chance to own one of the most recognizable Porsche racecars from the glory days of the Grand Prix. With a racing history straight out of the cinema, and the peace of mind of knowing it can still take 1st against the pack when put on the track. Truly the crowning jewel of your collection and one you can still enjoy. 1968 Porsche 908-004 LH Canepa If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1973 Ferrari 365 GTC/4
One of the rarest Ferrari models ever produced, particularly in right-hand drive, the 365 GTC/4 was developed to meet the ever-growing demand among Ferrari's clientele for high-performance Grand Tourers with space for four passengers. It was introduced in March 1971 to replace the 365 GTC, which had been phased out two years earlier. The chassis of the 365 GTC/4 was essentially that of the 365 GTB Daytona, albeit stretched an additional 100 millimetres for extra cabin room, and Pininfarina's newly introduced wind tunnel obviously played a part in the car's sinuous and streamlined shape with no panels shared with other models in the range. The bodywork was steel with aluminium doors and motivation was courtesy of the Daytona's 4.4-litre DOHC V12, slightly softened to produce 340bhp, and fuelled by side-draft, twin-choke Webers allowing a lower bonnet line. Weight distribution was almost perfect at 51:49 thanks to the five-speed gearbox and alloy bell-housing being set well back in the chassis. Around 500 examples were built over an eighteen-month period and, according to online sources, some 41 365 GTC/4s were produced in right-hand drive, with only 31 of those being destined for British shores. 1973 Ferrari 365 GTC/4 Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1967 De Tomaso Vallelunga by Ghia
Few small-volume car manufacturers can boast as compelling or cosmopolitan a backstory as that of De Tomaso Automobili. An accomplished amateur racing driver himself, Alejandro de Tomaso competed throughout the latter part of the decade; his career encompassed two World Championship Grands Prix, four participations in the Sebring 12 Hours, and also a class win at the 1958 Le Mans 24 Hours. In 1957, de Tomaso married American heiress Isabelle Haskell, and settled in Modena—then the epicenter of Italy’s sportscar manufacturing industry. There, de Tomaso commenced production of a variety of moderately successful Formula Junior, Formula One and Two designs. However, in 1963, he ventured into road car production for the first time with his attractive Ford Cortina-powered, two-seat Vallelunga coupé. Employing a pressed steel backbone chassis with a tubular rear sub-frame, its engine functioned as a stressed member, thereby improving torsional rigidity and enabling impressive levels of performance from a car generating less than 120 horsepower. The Vallelunga’s four-wheel disc brakes and double-wishbone, coil spring suspension ensured ample stopping power and pleasant road-holding capabilities ideal for spirited driving between towns, and checkered flags, too. Legendary designer Giorgetto Giugiaro was responsible for styling the low and svelte Vallelunga, while Ghia were tabbed with execution of Giugiaro’s design in fiberglass. The production Vallelunga weighed in at only 726 kilograms, and its 105-horsepower engine was good for a top speed of 180 km/h, while a sprint from zero-to-97 km/h was said to require only 6.7 seconds. This wonderfully restored and lightly customised Vallelunga is a late production example which was delivered new to Varese, Italy on 27 May 1967. Between 1970 and 1983, it resided in northern Italy and then Rome. In June 2003, the car was purchased by a Spanish De Tomaso enthusiast and exported to their home in Barcelona. Under current ownership, this attractive Vallelunga has been cleverly modified for better performance with a freshly rebuilt 1.6-litre, Ford four-cylinder engine which was reportedly sourced from a period Formula 3 car; this engine has also been fitted with a supercharger, Weber Type 48 carburetor, and high-performance fittings. The gearbox remains the correct-type De Tomaso-VW four-speed unit, and this is controlled via a handsome gated shifter which occupies the place of honour within the car’s immaculately retrimmed cabin. The set of 13-inch Cromodora wheels are presently shod in Kumho tires, and at the rear track these fit nicely under the fiberglass body’s slightly widened fenders. As the consignor reports that this extremely uncommon Vallelunga has traveled just 4,000 kilometres since completion of its comprehensive restoration, it would be a tremendous and exciting prize for any collector of advanced and attractive niche Italian sportscars. 1967 De Tomaso Vallelunga by Ghia RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright Few small-volume car manufacturers can boast as compelling or cosmopolitan a backstory as that of De Tomaso Automobili. - 1951-lancia-b50-aurelia
With its flowing, elegant design and advanced engineering, this Lancia Aurelia B50 convertible perfectly reflects the Italian marque’s status during the early post-war years. It’s thought that this car was displayed at the 1951 Geneva Motor Show, and then sold via W Ramseter & Cie, a Geneva-based Lancia concessionaire. Its first owner was Anna Cobleigh Payne-Jennings, who took her Aurelia back to the UK but sadly died the following year. In the summer of 1952, it was bought from her estate by a Mr Jenkins, an American enthusiast who was visiting the UK. He then used the Lancia for touring around Europe, an epic trip that included a visit to the Nürburgring in Germany. For many years, it was assumed that its unique exterior details had been added by Pinin Farina, but more recently Jenkins’ son discovered a photograph that had a note on the back written by his father. It said: ‘Before modification by Saoutchik, Paris.’ It therefore appears that his European trip also included a visit to the famous French coachbuilder, which carried out modifications such as the addition of front auxiliary lights and extra chrome detailing. Jenkins took the Lancia with him when he went back to the US, and kept the car in Palm Beach until the mid-1970s, after which it moved to his house in Richmond, Virginia. Among his other trips were a visit to the 1954 Sebring 12 Hours, and the Aurelia was resprayed twice during his long ownership: once in pale blue soon after he bought it, and then back to the original white in the late 1950s. After Mr Jenkins passed away in the 1990s, the Lancia was sold to Los Angeles-based restorer Rick Fitzgerald, who carried out a comprehensive multi-year rebuild. Such was the quality of his work that the Aurelia won a class award at the 2005 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The Lancia was sold to its next owner in 2006 and used only sparingly until it was offered for sale by Gooding & Co at Pebble Beach in 2010. It was bought by a British enthusiast whose wife had immediately fallen in love with it, and since being shipped back to the UK it has deservedly won multiple concours awards. It has also been featured in magazines such as Classic & Sports Car and Auto Italia. Now being offered for sale, this beautiful Lancia Aurelia comes with an original brochure and instruction book, plus a copy of its bill of sale, and even a photo book that documents its tour of Europe in 1952-53. 1951 Lancia B50 Aurelia The Classic Motor Hub If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. V6 FMC enjoyed much success including a win on the WRC 2000 Rally of Cyprus with Carlos Sainz/Luis Moya and became part of WRC folklore for Colin McRae's heroic battle through the snow back to ninth on the 2001 WRC Swedish Rally. Officially titled the Focus RS WRC, Ford's legendary rally car started a total of 173 events over the years, and has been driven by such legends as Marcus Gronholm, Mikko Hirvonen, Petter Solberg and Carlos Sainz. Not forgetting, of course the late Colin McRae, who made the Martini-clad Focus a bit of an icon. Few cars have had such a long innings at the forefront of the WRC, and it all started back in 1999 when the Focus first appeared at the Monte Carlo Rally. Built in utmost secrecy and codenamed C170, the Focus WRC was based upon the well engineered road car, which boasted a 10% stiffer bodyshell than that of its predecessor, the Escort. It housed a new Ford Zetec E 16V turbocharged engine and other areas of the car were also further developed making it a compact and nimble contender. Along with a new car for the 1999 season, Ford had also managed to lure away the 1995 World Rally Champion, Colin McRae, from Subaru at a reported sum of £6,000,000 over two years - making him the highest earning rally driver in history. Always a favourite amongst rally fans due to his 'if in doubt, flat out' driving style, McRae won 25 WRC events in his career and in doing so, etched his name into motorsport folklore. Most of the distinctive FMC registration numbers on their WRC cars are indelibly etched in rally enthusiast's memories, particularly V6 FMC which remained competitive for nearly four years, a long time for a rally car at this level. It was used by Carlos Sainz/Luis Moya for the Rallye Catalunya in March 2000 (third) and the Acropolis (second) in June and was famously guided by Carlos Sainz/Luis Moya to victory on the WRC 2000 Rally of Cyprus (Round Ten) finishing 37.4 seconds ahead of Colin McRae in V5 FMC. The car enjoyed two further outings in November when it was driven by Raimund Baumschlager and Stephen Finlay. In February 2001, V6 FMC was entered by Ford Motor Company for Colin McRae and Nicky Grist in the International Swedish Rally alongside Carlos Sainz in V8 FMC and Francois Delecour in V3 FMC. One of the iciest and snow-banked events for many years saw Colin McRae at his inimitable best fighting for the lead, kissing heaped snow walls as he mounted a challenge. On Stage Five and Six, V6 FMC posted the fastest stage times, however a few stages later, Colin lent on a snow bank that had been weakened by earlier cars, it gave way and the car went off. Fortunately, dozens of ever enthusiastic Swedish spectators manhandled the Focus back on to the stage but time was lost. The gearbox became stuck in sixth and a ninth place finish was the best that they could manage, but the crowd had witnessed Colin McRae at his fighting best. Through the remaining part of 2001 and up until May 2002 V6 FMC was campaigned in WRC events by the Italian pairing of Paulo Andreucci/Anna Andruessi with top AB results. In May 2002, the car was purchased by the experienced Norwegian driver, Valter Jensen, and with co-driver Erik Pedersen competed in many domestic rallies through to June 2004, gaining plenty of credible top five results. The Focus remained in his possession for nearly 25 years, making its reappearance a noteworthy story. Now returned to the UK, the car is supplied with a full documented history file including its original purchase invoice from Malcolm Wilson’s M-Sport, export papers, its Gold Logbook, M-Sport correspondence, and details of an engine rebuild with less than 100km running time since. Supplied at the time was c.£100,000 worth of M-Sports spares, in itself a special part of the story of Valter Jensen’s long association with V6 FMC, and these are available by separate negotiation. Supplied with the car, however, are the lamp and bumper pods and an extra set of five wheels. Neil Buckley of Dom Buckley Motorsport has recently checked the car all over and it has just benefited from a full service with cambelts and fluids etc. This is a special opportunity to acquire 2000 Rally of Cyprus-winning V6 FMC, long unseen and part of WRC folklore for Colin McRae's heroic battle through the snow on the 2001 Swedish Rally. 2000 Ford Focus Mk1 WRC Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
