  • 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C 50th Anniversary Edition

In the late 1990s, Carroll Shelby launched the CSX 4000 series, intended as a continuation of his own Cobra 427 model of the 1960s. In many ways it was the same as the original, but it incorporated numerous technical advancements in assembly processes and materials learned over the last half century—including a reinforced steel chassis, the use of better alloys, improved engine cooling, and more insulation for the passenger compartment, suiting the needs of modern drivers. Examples had varying bodywork and drivetrain configurations depending upon the whims of their original owners. Shelby celebrated the 427’s 50th anniversary with an equal number of special CSX 4000 cars, numbered between CSX 4550 and CSX 4599. Each featured a powder-coated frame, custom gauges, and an interior outfitted with more premium materials, and was equipped with unique badging and logos throughout. The Cobra 427 S/C 50th Anniversary Edition offered here was the 17th built and was very desirably specified with Kirkham’s beautifully finished bare polished aluminum body with brushed stripes, as well as a leather interior, heater/defroster, 15-inch wood steering wheel, and Shelby gauges. It was set up with transmission mounts for a Tremec five-speed transmission, the standard 3.54:1 rear differential, steel side exhaust and headers, Shelby coil-over suspension and Shelby Wilwood racing brakes, rack-and-pinion steering, 28-gallon fuel tank, and original-style aluminum 15-inch wheels with winged knock-offs. The Carroll Shelby Engine Company then supplied an aluminum 427 FE engine, built by Roush Yates and displacing 482 cubic inches, capable of producing 578 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 592 pound-feet of torque at 4,200 rpm. Presented in excellent overall condition with scarcely any use, having recorded just 772 actual miles at the time of cataloguing, this utterly stunning Cobra boasts extraordinary performance and muscular beauty. Carroll Shelby would have had it no other way. 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C 50th Anniversary Edition RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1965 Aston Martin DB5 3

The Aston Martin DB5 is often viewed as “the most famous car in the world”. Since it was starred in the James bond movies Goldfinger and Thunderball, it has become for many a schoolboy’s dream. In evolution terms, a DB5 is a Series V DB4 with a 4.0 litre engine and a lightweight ‘Superleggera’ body slightly restyled by Carrozzeria Touring Milano. Following its launch in July 1963, the DB5 received much praise, not least for its performance. At the time, the DB5 was one of the fastest cars available with a maximum speed of 148 mph. Its production, however, was relatively short-lived, ending in September 1965 after 1.021 units had been made. Of this limited run, only 123 were DB5 Convertibles and the RHD example we have here for sale is one of the very last Aston Martin DB5 Convertible ever produced. After some years in the United Kingdom, this DB5 C was exported to Australia where it stayed for 23 years. Subsequently to its return in the UK in 1988, it underwent a ‘no-expense spared’ three-year restoration estimated to have cost 90,000 GBP. Finished in Black Pearl with Burgundy interior, this exceptional Aston Martin is offered in very good condition with a very rare matching hardtop. The current owner, a Belgian passionate, has acquired the vehicle in 1993 and kept it for more than three decades. Registered as an Oldtimer, the DB5 is in possession of its FIVA card and has participated to various prestigious car meetings. The Aston Martin has been cherished like a collector item and regularly maintained. It was driven only for special occasions and to this day has accrued a total of 93.750 miles. When not in use, it has always been stored in a dry garage. Accompanying the car is a substantial history file, containing the original owner’s handbook, a copy of the Aston Martin build sheet, a photographic presentation of the body restoration, and all maintenance invoices since the last thirty years. We don’t often have the chance to offer a superb driving example of the rare and coveted DB5 Convertible, beautifully presented in a very elegant color combination. Only 81 Aston Martin DB5C were built Right-Hand-Drive, and this one comes with its rare hardtop. Connoisseurs will recognize here the unique investment opportunity. 1965 Aston Martin DB5 AD Sportscars If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1958 Alfa Romeo 1900 Speciale

Introduced at the 1950 Paris Salon in preparation for the 1951 racing season, the Alfa Romeo 1900 was a transformative model that ushered in the modern era of design at the Milan-based concern. Primarily available as a four-door saloon, the 1900 proved most desirable to collectors in coupe form, whether clothed in series coachwork by Touring, or in various boutique and one-off designs. The 1900C performed admirably in the Italian Sports Car Championship series, particularly in the form of the lightweight Zagato-bodied examples, while one-off cars built by Farina, Boano, and Ghia received great acclaim at various auto salons of the era. The featured car showcases an unusually rakish sporting design that is clearly derived from the tradition of the finest coachbuilt 1900 examples. Chassis number 001 is believed to be the first of approximately eight cars that were built during the late 1960s and early 1970s by the carrozzeria Autotecnica del Lario (ATL). Founded circa 1969 by Ercole Zuccoli, ATL was a specialist coachbuilder based in northern Lombardy that created bespoke automobiles to individual customer order. This car was reportedly built to the specifications of an Italian client who desired a unique 1900 that could perform with competition characteristics while being worthy of concours display. A period tubular chassis was equipped with 1900 running gear and powered by a 1,975-cubic-centimeter engine from a 1900 Super, which features dual distributors, twin-plug ignition, and dual Weber carburetors fed by velocity stacks. (Note that, as this motor’s serial number indicates it was completed toward the end of 1957 production, this car is identified and titled as a 1958 model year vehicle.) ATL mounted this fine chassis with delectable coachwork shaped in lightweight aluminum that was reminiscent of several of the 1950s greatest sports racing berlinettas. Features like the long front deck, bulbous rear haunches, and the long fastback are clearly evocative of celebrated models like the Zagato-bodied Aston Martin DB4 GT and the Pininfarina-bodied Maserati A6 GCS berlinetta. The sublime shape was further complemented with delicate styling cues such as the louvered hood and front fenders, and Borrani wire wheels, while the external fuel filler implies the car’s competition mandate. After reportedly completing the build process during the 1970s this Alfa Romeo was enjoyed by the original owner for an unknown period, experiencing relatively little driving use. In 2006 the 1900 Speciale was discovered in Italy by collector Tom Kazamek of Manhattan Beach, California, and after purchasing the car and importing it to the United States he commissioned the respected Steve Tillack of nearby Redondo Beach to perform a significant freshening, as demonstrated by invoices on file. Gradually conducted from November 2006 to August 2016, this work included a rebuild of the gearbox, clutch, brakes, shocks, and carburetors, and the installation of a new fuel pump. Upon completion of the refurbishment, the handsome 1900 Speciale was presented at the 2014 Manhattan Beach Concours d’Elegance, where it won an award for the best original/preserved car. More significant exhibition opportunities followed, including display at the prestigious The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering in August 2016, and at the Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance a year later. In January 2019 the car was acquired by Mr. Ponder, and he quickly submitted it to his most trusted vendors for further refinement, including Red Car Restorations of Rockwall, Texas. In addition to touch-up of the paintwork, the car was fitted with new front and rear glass sections, and the interior received a new dashboard. The carburetors and the steering box were rebuilt, and the wiring was repaired as needed. Tastefully equipped with modern disc brakes and an electric fuel pump, this scintillating 1900 Speciale would make an ideal entrant at vintage driving events and tours, where its unique coachwork would surely draw admiration, and the competition-tuned dual-overhead-cam engine could be enjoyed to its full potential. The exquisite finishing of the thin-gauge aluminum coachwork also makes the car a perfect candidate for further display at major concours d’elegance, where the striking design would surely be the toast of any class dedicated to one-off designs or so-called etceterini. In any event, this rare 1900 Speciale exudes the distinct aura of the great 1950s Italian racing berlinettas, offering a rare acquisition for the collector in search of a car of unique character that is nevertheless based in one of the great marques. 1958 Alfa Romeo 1900 Speciale RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1972 Ferrari 246 Dino GT

Youthquake Few cars scream 1970s sex appeal like the Ferrari 246 Dino GT, a model conceived to inject some welcomed sporting youth into a 12-cylinder range which very much appealed to the marque’s older clientele. How beautiful is that sultry soap-bar body? It could only be the work of Pininfarina, which, in the face of the angular geometric trends of the time, still managed to make it look fresh and contemporary. Arguably the best bit about the Dino is that it is every bit as good to drive as it is to look at. And that’s something that certainly can’t be said of every late-1960s/early-1970s sports car. Chassis no. 03148 As evidenced by the accompanying correspondence between Maranello Concessionaires in England and the Ferrari factory, this final-development E-series 246 Dino GT – chassis number 03148 – was originally finished in Rosso Chiaro Ferrari (20-R-190) over a Nero (161) interior. The only optional extra noted was the electric windows. Ordered in December of 1971 by Maranello Concessionaires and supplied to the Jersey Ferrari agent Henry Linton Cars in March of 1972, this Dino was acquired new by one Mervyn Frankel. Mervyn Frankel is the father of the veteran automotive journalist Andrew Frankel, who recalls chassis 03148 as the very first Ferrari he ever saw in the metal as an impressionable boy. In 2021 we had the privilege of reuniting Andrew with his father’s old car – an unforgettable occasion which he chronicled in a truly wonderful story on The Intercooler. “Though I was just six at the time, my memories of that Ferrari are seared on my memory. I remember sitting in both seats, waggling the wheel and stirring the stick in one when my father wasn’t looking, and being mesmerised by the sight of those front wings rising up before me in the other. And the noise. Oh that noise: a 2418cc 65-degree V6 with four chain driven camshafts fed by a trio of downdraft Weber carburettors. It has stayed with me forever.” “Taken off road for various periods, ‘ETV 48L’ has never been driven in the winter and only occasionally has she been out in the rain when the weather forecast proved inaccurate!” John Gardner, Owner 1973-2007 We digress. In the face of a global financial crisis, Frankel Snr. was forced to sell the Dino after just a year of ownership. Having completed its two initial complimentary services as per the accompanying original Warranty Card, chassis number 03148 was sold to the industrial magnate John Paul Gardner in March of 1973 and registered in the United Kingdom with the number ‘ETV 48L’. It’s the registration this Dino retains to this day. Gardner was a keen driver and entered the Dino in both the Curborough Sprint Event and the Wiscombe Park Speed Hill Climb. In addition to his impressions from these events, Gardner fastidiously recorded the details of every journey he undertook with this Ferrari and any maintenance in a small blue notebook. The detail is quite extraordinary. For example, in April of 1975, he notes that the spark plugs were replaced, the contact breaker points were reset and all four wheels and brakes were removed for thorough cleaning. Gardner continued to chronicle his ownership of this Dino – a period that would span 34 years and some 16,000 miles. When he finally decided to part with chassis number 03148, Gardner was interviewed about his time with the car. “Apart from outings to the AMOC Curborough Sprint and AMOC Wiscombe Hillclimb, the car has not been used competitively,” he recalled. “Taken off road for various periods, ‘ETV 48L’ has never been driven in the winter and only occasionally has she been out in the rain when the weather forecast proved inaccurate!” This Ferrari changed hands for just the second time in November of 2007. In 2011, its third and penultimate owner submitted chassis number 03148 for Ferrari Classiche certification – certification it duly received, confirming the matching-numbers engine, gearbox and body, in addition to the original specification. We had the pleasure of finding this 246 GT a new home in the summer of 2021. And satisfyingly, chassis 03418’s fourth and current owner has used and enjoyed the car, all the while continuing where its previous owners left off and always maintaining it regardless of cost. Owing to a permanent move abroad, said owner has now entrusted us, once again, with rehoming this most beguiling of Ferraris. “Chassis number 03148’ Ferrari Classiche certification confirms the matching-numbers engine, gearbox and body, in addition to the original specification.” Beguiling really is the word to describe the condition of this Dino. Especially inside, where the leatherette upholstery has aged incredibly well. The headlining is taught and not sagging at all, and the mouse-hair dash has not faded as much as other examples we’ve encountered. The 8-track stereo remains functional and in the glovebox you’ll find cassettes to suit most 1970s tastes. Peer behind the steering wheel at the column and you’ll even find the sealed customs tag from when the car was originally imported to the United Kingdom. It should go without saying that chassis number 03418 retains all its accompanying factory paraphernalia: its spare key, tool roll, jack (complete with leather pouch), and leather books pouch, containing the warranty card, service book, owner’s manual and spare-parts catalogue. The latter documents are all in excellent condition – a credit to the car’s former keepers. Finding unrestored 1970s Ferraris in such condition and with such provenance today is an increasingly rare occurrence, which goes some way to explain why we’re so excited by this Dino. Chassis 03148 is certainly a car that needs to be seen in the metal to be truly appreciated. We’ll let Andrew Frankel have the final word. “Every Dino I’ve driven has been different and this one is just better: it feels quick in a way no Dino ever has, its driveline gloriously precise and lacking in shunt, its gearchange beautifully easy but with no slack nor sign of synchro wear. It’s just one of the good ones, and you get them from time to time, particularly in cars from an era and a factory where no two were ever quite the same.” 1972 Ferrari 246 Dino GT Girardo & Co. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright Youthquake Few cars scream 1970s sex appeal like the Ferrari 246 Dino GT, a model conceived to inject some welcomed sporting youth into a 12-cylinder range which very much appealed to the marque’s older clientele. • 1967 Ferrari 365 California Spyder by Pininfarina

CRÈME DE LA CRÈME High-end luxury and sporting brands often have a tradition of creating a limited-edition halo product, something so special that it almost makes their core products seem commonplace by comparison. For Ferrari this tradition often involved naming the product after its intended market, beginning with the 212 Export of the early 1950s, which was intended for American privateer use and specified with a hotter mechanical set-up than the concurrent Inter cars bound for European homes. But Maranello’s supercar tradition was truly established with the 340 America, which offered well-heeled customers the opportunity to own a model made in smaller numbers, equipped with the ferocious Lampredi racing engine, and cosmetically trimmed to rival the finest luxury touring cars. This in turn led to the 342 and 375 America models, which segued into several series of large-bore Superamerica models. Amidst this evolution of the Lampredi-based flagship models, in 1957 Ferrari more quietly took a similar approach with the Colombo-engine 250 GT model line. In an echo of the highly successful 250 GT Tour de France racing berlinetta, Ferrari began to offer a racing spider that was specifically conceived for the United States’ west-coast market. The 250 GT California Spider was equipped with race-bred mechanical components for the avid SCCA privateer, but many were trimmed with great panache, featuring high-quality leather interiors that belied the model’s true dual-use purpose. Built in a modest quantity of 106 examples through two different iterations on the long and short-wheelbase chassis, the 250 GT California Spider evolved into a verifiable legend, and is today regarded as one of the most collectible Ferraris ever built. By the mid-1960s both the 250 GT platform and the large-bore Superamericas were essentially out of production. But Maranello had one more ace up its sleeve, a model that would basically combine the two concepts into one fabulous boutique product. At the 1966 Geneva Salon, on Pininfarina’s stand, Ferrari unveiled a new open-top model built in the tradition of both the Superamerica and the California Spider. This top-shelf offering proved to be the final entry in Ferrari’s long and distinguished vintage tradition of building limited-edition supercars for very well-heeled customers and preferred Ferrari clientele. The new model’s primary attraction was its exquisite open coachwork, which was designed and built by Pininfarina. The front end was visually similar to the 500 Superfast, with a small oval nose, faired-in headlamps, and two elegant pop-up driving lamps set inboard of the main lights. An impossibly long front deck led to a steeply raked windscreen, while the beltline gave way to a triangular cosmetic flourish that integrated into the door handle, a speed-strake cue that became iconic (and functional) in future models such as the 206 Dino and the 308 series. The design concluded distinctively with the sweeping lines converging into an angular Kamm tail. This masterful coachwork was one of the most fetching designs in Pininfarina’s extensive history, and it was mounted on a derivation of Ferrari’s type 598 chassis, the 2,650 milimeter-wheelbase platform also used for the 330 GT 2+2. Power was provided by a development of the single-overhead-cam 330 engine, which was enlarged to 4.4 liters. This was Ferrari’s first 365-engine road car, presaging such classics at the 365 GTC and GTS, not to mention the dual-cam 365 GTB/4 Daytona and Spider, and the 365 GTC/4. Desirable performance components like power steering and Borrani wire wheels were standard-equipped, while a bevy of other accessories were available as optional equipment. With eyes once again set on the American buyer, and hoping to evoke the competition triumphs and aesthetic mastery of the 250 GT California Spider, the new model was dubbed the 365 California Spyder. Only 14 examples were ultimately built during 18 months of boutique production, and they were generally sold to a jet-set list of clients that included prominent businessmen and lesser royalty. 365 California Spyders only rarely become available on the open market today, leaving the model somewhat shrouded in mystery, and subject to oft-repeated mistruths. The fact remains, however, that despite being trimmed for the luxury market with little aspirations to racing, the 365 California delivers the kind of robust performance that has impressed many owners over the course of long-distance tours and events, as testified by an admiring caretaker in a past issue of Prancing Horse magazine. For the enthusiast of Ferrari’s long and fruitful collaboration with Pininfarina, there can be no higher watermark than the 365 California. Exquisitely designed, indubitably rare, and appointed for the likes of royalty, this outstanding model constitutes the last of Ferrari’s vintage flagship open touring models—and what an extraordinary statement it was! CHASSIS NUMBER 9935 Claiming a short chain of ownership including two long-term caretakers; a 2009 refurbishment by one of the niche’s most respected restoration concerns; and authentication of its matching-numbers chassis, engine, gearbox, rear axle, and body by Ferrari Classiche, this breathtaking 365 California is a particularly desirable example of Maranello’s mid-1960s flagship spider. According to the research of marque expert Marcel Massini, which is corroborated by a deep file of documentation, chassis number 9935 is the ninth of the 14 examples built. Completed in May 1967, the 365 was evidently ordered new by Waldorf Leasing on behalf of Los Angeles resident Nancy Tewksbury, who already owned chassis number 6919, a 275 GTS. The California was trimmed with a Bianco Molitan “M” white leather interior that matched her 275 GTS, and it was appointed with a passenger headrest, air conditioning, and instruments in miles. In addition to the standard power steering, the car was equipped with an uprated Bendix fuel pump. While the interior was complemented by a matching white soft top, and contrasting red carpets, the curvaceous coachwork was finished in Rosso Cina (China Red) paint, combining for a very striking color scheme. After a factory certificate of origin was issued in mid-June, the Ferrari was shipped to Chinetti Motors in New York, and subsequently dispatched to Mrs. Tewksbury, who officially leased the car from Waldorf Leasing. Oddly enough, the first owner kept the Spyder for only a few months, after which Waldorf sold the car in 1968 to its second private owner, Charles Garretson of Detroit, Michigan. During 1969 the California was sold to a succession of two very well-known and respected dealers, first passing to Kirk F. White Motorcars, which in turn sold the car to famed competition driver and sports car importer Bob Grossman. In March 1971 the 365 found a much more lasting home when it was purchased by Dr. Donald Grove, a physicist on the faculty of Princeton University, in New Jersey. While not a typical collector, Dr. Grove was extremely bright and more than mechanically capable, and he performed many of his own repairs while enjoying the Spyder as a reliable daily driver, as clarified by his correspondence and a handwritten service log on file. In late 1978 Dr. Grove submitted the Ferrari to The Motorcar Company of Cranbrook, New Jersey, for a comprehensive restoration. Following completion of this work, the 365 was displayed in September 1982 at a Ferrari meeting in Bel Air, Maryland, organized by the well-known marque enthusiast Ron Spangler, proprietor of the Prancing Horse Farm. The California remained in Dr. Grove’s possession through at least 1998, accounting for a remarkable period of over 27 years of fastidious single-owner care. In 2004 the car was finally sold to a Florida-based dealer who presented the Ferrari at the Cavallino Classic staged at the 2004 Concorso Italiano in California, and the car took home a Platinum Award. In June 2006 the Ferrari was sold to the current owner. Though the California was admirably complete, the prior restoration was beginning to show its age, so the new owner decided to commission a top-shelf refurbishment by one of the best names in the business, Paul Russell & Company. As confirmed by a host of photos and correspondence on file, this restoration addressed every mechanical and cosmetic element, including a refinish in the original color scheme of Rosso Cina paint over a Bianco Molitan “M" leather interior. Upon completion of this important work in 2009, the California was presented at a number of high-level shows, beginning with the Cavallino Classic in January 2009. Three months later the owner took the Spyder on a tour of some major European events, and in 2017 the car was invited to participate in the factory’s 70th Anniversary Classiche Cavalcade, which it successfully completed. In addition to benefitting from further service by Paul Russell, the 365 was certified in April 2013 by Ferrari Classiche with a Red Book that authenticates the continued presence of all the major matching-numbers mechanical equipment, including the chassis, engine, gearbox, rear axle, and coachwork. The car is very well documented with factory build sheet copies; 1971 sales invoice and title; prior owner’s notes and correspondence; paperwork and photos from the Paul Russell restoration; and the coveted Red Book and associated Certificate of Authenticity. 9935 is furthermore offered with owner’s manuals, toolkit, and tire jack kit, among other accessories. 365 California Spyder examples so rarely come up for public auction that one has not crossed a block within the US in over 10 years. This exquisite car, offered from 18 years of fastidious single-owner care, presents an amazing opportunity to acquire the last of the best, and the best of the last—the ultimate flagship luxury grand touring spider built by the company that practically invented the concept. Sure to be welcomed at major events and exhibitions worldwide, this rare 365 California Spyder would make a crowning addition to any stable of thoroughbred sports cars. 1967 Ferrari 365 California Spyder by Pininfarina RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The Mercedes 280 SL Pagoda. A place of worship for convertible fans. In the early 1960s, Mercedes boss Walter Hitzinger looked for a middle ground between the 300 SL Gullwing (slow flying) and the 190 SL, which was actually reserved for women with large sun hats. In 1963 they presented the W113, which was soon popularly called the "Pagoda", thanks to the shape of the hardtop that was supplied with it for the winter months. Now, almost 60 years later, an absolute cult. We completely agree! The chassis was a shortened chassis of the W111 S-class generation, an M180 straight-six that was actually a further developed aircraft engine. Extended nose, large Bakelite steering wheel, rear-wheel drive... Need we say more? Ours? A neat gray blue metallic on beige leather example that has been making happy kilometers in the Netherlands for 25 years. • 1979 Lotus Esprit S2 JPS

Well presented and remarkably original, Number 61 of the 100 UK examples of the JPS Lotus Esprit S2 has covered just 26,235 miles from new. Technically called the World Championship Commemorative Model, but more colloquially known as the John Player Special, this was the first and arguably the most memorable limited-edition Esprit from Lotus. Dubbed the JPS due to its distinctive black and gold livery, inspired by the ground effect, JPS-sponsored, championship-winning Lotus 79 cars of the period, as raced by Mario Andretti and Ronnie Petersen. Originally planned to build 200 examples, it was believed that just 185 were produced, 100 for the UK, 55 for the United States and 30 for Europe. The eye-catching specification included gold-coloured side stripes complete with World Champion lettering, gold-coloured front and rear windscreen surrounds and alloy wheels, gold-effect corduroy seat inserts and a 3-spoke leather-rimmed steering wheel instead of the normal plastic offering. The 'Juke Box' installed was a Hitachi Digi-One radio-cassette. The 1,973cc 16-valve DOHC engine delivered a feisty 160bhp which was sufficient to sprint the 1,980lb fibreglass-bodied two-seater to 60mph in 6.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 124mph. The short production run lasted from December 1978 to July 1979. This nicely original limited edition JPS Esprit, with just 26,235 miles from new, has formed part our vendor's Lotus-themed collection for nearly 15 years. The Lotus Cars Records correspondence states that it was #61 of 100 right-hand drive UK cars produced in early 1979 and our particular example rolled off the line on 20th February 1979 prior to being sold through the London Lotus Centre in Chelsea. The comprehensive history file contains a good timeline of its history and multiple recent invoices from marque specialists for services, a new exhaust, cam belt changes and most recently a fuel pump. The file also contains copies of various press articles and a copy of Motorsport Magazine featuring this car in an advert promoting Omologato Watches. This original JPS Esprit is truly worthy of any collection of rare Lotus cars or, better still, is to be enjoyed with the handling and performance that disgraced supercars of the day and the undoubted cachet of that distinctive Formula 1 World Championship-winning livery. 1979 Lotus Esprit S2 JPS Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 2000 Lamborghini Diablo 1

The Lamborghini Diablo debuted on 21st January 1990 as the replacement for the Countach. Marcello Gandini's design language of a wedge shape and cabin-forward design carried over to the Diablo, but it was considerably refined and made less angular, both in the pursuit of aerodynamic performance and to increase its appeal to a wider audience. Power was sent rearward from a 5.7-litre, fuel-injected version of the evergreen Giotto Bizzarrini V-12 engine, capable of 485 horsepower and a top speed over 200 mph. This latest Lamborghini also introduced creature comforts such as power windows and mirrors—though the steering remained unassisted (for the early cars), and an air-conditioning system was optional (until 1997). At the 1993 Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini unveiled the Diablo VT, an all-wheel drive variant with cosmetic and mechanical improvements, which altogether greatly improved its high-speed tractability over the base model. Looking to increase driver and passenger comfort, upgrades included a lighter clutch, slightly bigger seats, a restyled dashboard, and an improved air-conditioning system. Intakes were added to the VT’s front fascia near the driving lights, to assist in cooling the new four-piston Brembo brakes. The driving lights themselves were also increased in number and output to aid visibility. Power steering now helped to make the car easier to control, along with an active suspension with electronically adjustable dampers. The all-wheel-drive “viscous traction” platform was borrowed from the limited production GT model, as was the 6.0-litre V12 engine, with mechanical and electronic revisions, the output was rated at 549 hp and a hugely impressive 457 foot-pounds of torque. The already quick Diablo was now capable of covering the 0 to 60 mph dash in just 3.8 seconds, and on to a storming top speed approaching 210 mph, only being outpaced by a handful of exotics that included the McLaren F1 and Jaguar XJ220. This example of the desirable, late model Diablo was delivered new to America in the year 2000. It arrived finished in the distinctive and appealing hue of Blu Ely, an exceptionally rare colour of which only 3 Diablos are known to have been painted in; with the interior adorned in Ivory and black leather, carbon fibre, and navy blue carpets. During its recent ownership, the car has built up a collection of documents, including frequent servicing invoices with recent work, including the annual service, being completed in November 2019. Since then, the vehicle has been driven less than 1,000 kilometres. Despite the low distance covered in later years, the car has seen thorough and comprehensive work, with no fewer than 11 services completed since 2016. As well as the mechanical and performance focussed improvements that were brought to the diablo when the VT 6.0 debuted, there also were also advancements in terms of NVH and interior build quality, which can largely be attributed to the takeover of Lamborghini by Audi as part of the Volkswagen group, post Chrysler merger. To many, this makes later Diablos the sweet spot in the longstanding and iconic Lamborghini V12 lineage, with earlier cars simply being more compromised and less well constructed, and more contemporary cars being too sterile thanks to the increase in VAG involvement. The pleasant hue of Blu Ely was introduced to the Lamborghini pallet late into the 2000 model year, and the Diablo was the only model to be available in the colour, until it was brought to the Ad Personam pallet when the studio expanded in 2013. A shade comparable to the more contemporary Blu Cepheus, although the latter is a touch lighter and pearlescent. It can also remind one of alluring Porsche Paint to Sample blues such as PTS Rivera Blue or PTS Mexico Blue in certain light, which demonstrates well the depth and versatility of Blu Ely, despite it being a non-metallic and non-pearlescent finish. This Diablo currently reads 42,250 kilometres from new, and comes with the original toolkit in great condition, as well as its fuse and bulb kit, service records and history documents. This car presents a great opportunity to own a more modern, more refined Diablo in great mechanical and visual condition, adorned in a rare and attractive colour combination. 2000 Lamborghini Diablo D.K. Other Cars from D.K. • 1973 Porsche 911T

This 1973.5 911T is a beautiful example, finished in its original shade of Aubergine over a black vinyl interior. It is believed that this car has not undergone a comprehensive restoration but was the subject of a respray in the 1980s, which was done to a very high standard and has aged gracefully over the last 40-odd years. Sitting on a set of 15” Fuchs forged 5-spoke wheels, this car has all of the visuals you would want in a short-bumper 911 including a single flag mirror on the driver’s door and chrome exterior trim. The interior is classic 911 and wonderfully simple but this example does benefit from a number of nice optional extras from the period. The black vinyl comfort seats are fitted with headrests and are in good condition but do show some wear, as does the white headliner, which has a few areas of becoming detached behind the driver’s seat. This 911T was fitted from the factory with air conditioning which is a very desirable option on 911s of this era, and it works- cooling the car well for a system of this age. A period correct Blaupunkt head unit is integrated in the dashboard and features a single speaker, mounted centrally in the dashboard. Powering this 911 is a 2.4-liter air cooled flat-6, with the unique Bosch K-Jetronic CIS system, which was only available in this bodystyle for half of a year. The engine is believed to be numbers matching and the engine bay presents nicely. Not overly done-up like you may find in a fully restored car, but clean and clearly well cared for over the last 50 years. The engine runs well and pulls strongly, and when paired with the 5-speed 915 transaxle, it provides an enjoyable, lively driving experience. Mechanically, the car checks out in good condition but does show some minor leaks on both the engine and gearbox-which are to be expected in an air cooled 911 of this age. In the world of classic 911s, rarity factors into nearly every conversation and it is believed that less than 1,950 of these 1973.5 911Ts were produced, making it a truly uncommon car. As one of the final small bumper 911s produced, this 911T benefits from all the updates done to the chassis over its production run, and presents in very nice, honest condition throughout. Whether you are looking for a stock weekend driver or the basis for a restoration or outlaw project, this 911T is a fantastic starting point. 1973 Porsche 911T ISSIMI, Inc If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1957 Ferrari 250 GT

Enzo Ferrari’s passion may have been racing cars, but by 1950, he had begun to accept that exclusive road cars were needed to finance the company’s growing competition efforts. Early roadgoing Ferraris were built in very small numbers, usually to special order, with no attempt at standardization. A significant change occurred in 1954, when the Pinin Farina-designed 250 Europa debuted in Paris. It was Ferrari’s first true production model and would form the foundation for all future Ferrari 250 models. At the time of the unveiling of the second-series 250 Europa GT, Pinin Farina was in the process of building a new, much larger production facility and did not yet have the space to build the larger quantities of cars that Ferrari was requesting. Accordingly, the new 250 GT Coupe design they created was handed over to Carrozzeria Boano, headed by one of Pinin Farina’s designers, Mario Felice Boano. He proceeded to build 68 cars with slight styling alterations from the five cars that Pinin Farina had already built, the most notable being a lower fender line. When Boano’s namesake moved to Fiat in 1957, his son-in-law, Ezio Ellena, took over production under the banner of Carrozzeria Ellena. Ellena, too, made minor cosmetic changes—in particular, a raised roofline, prompting the use of the terms “Low Roof” for Boano-built bodies and “High Roof” for those by Ellena. Originally finished in Grigio with a Rosso interior, this “Low Roof” Boano coupe was delivered to noted Ferrari customer and businessman Giorgio Mondadori in the spring of 1957. The Mondadori Group would become the largest publisher in Italy and Sig. Mondadori would go on to purchase several new Ferrari GT cars through the 1960s. Subsequently 0639 GT was exported from Italy to England in the late 1960s, and by the following decade was exhibited in Jim Baxter’s Lark Lane Motor Museum in Liverpool, finished in red with a tan interior. Mr. Baxter maintained the car for many years, during which time it was mentioned in the April 1986 issue of Thoroughbred & Classic Cars and appeared in the Ferrari Owners’ Club England roster with registration “EPD 27 B.” Starting from the early 2000s, the Ferrari was owned by Jean-Roger Bossut, of France and Belgium, who would have marque specialist L’Officina in Brussels rebuild the numbers-matching engine and carry out other mechanical work. In 2007 the coupe took part in the Ferrari 60 Relay anniversary event in Reims-Epernay, France. In 2012, the coupe changed ownership and was registered in the United Kingdom, where it was cosmetically refurbished to its present color scheme of Argento Auteuil Metallizzato—a pale silver-blue metallic—with a gray roof and tan interior. Any inconsistencies with factory specification were also remedied at this time in preparation for the Ferrari Classiche certification that was completed in 2014, confirming the engine, gearbox, and bodywork to be original to chassis 0639 GT. A digital copy of the Red Book certification accompanies the sale. Further, the consignor has recently paid for a replacement copy of the physical Ferrari Classiche Red Book, which shall be delivered to the new buyer upon receipt from Ferrari Classiche. In December 2017, the original numbers-matching engine was rebuilt by noted marque specialist Terry Hoyle. Acquired by an American collector in 2018 and brought to the United States for the first time in its history, the coupe’s careful upkeep has persisted with recent minor mechanical work to improve drivability and performance. In August 2022, it was shown at The Quail, a Motorsport Gathering in Carmel Valley, California. Now offered with copies of previous registration documents, owner correspondence, and numerous service invoices detailing its cherished existence, this beautifully presented full numbers-matching 250 GT Coupe by Boano, replete with coveted Ferrari Classiche certification confirming it still retains its entire original drivetrain and bodywork, is eligible for the Mille Miglia, Tour Auto, and other prestigious events around the globe. 1957 Ferrari 250 GT RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
