  • 1995-subaru-impreza-555---ex-colin-mcrae

1995 Subaru Impreza 555 - Ex-Colin McRae, and part of his World Championship-winning campaign. There is nothing more iconic in the rally world than a “blue McRae Subaru” – and nothing more special than a car from his World Championship-winning campaign. The late, great Colin McRae only won the World Rally Championship once, taking the 1995 crown for the works 555 Subaru World Rally Team, but he certainly did it in style, mud-sliding his way to victory in front of his home crowd at Rally GB on 22nd November 1995. This car, chassis PRO/STI/01/94022 was used by McRae on the Monte Carlo and Tour de Corse Rallies in his championship year, scoring points with a 5th place in Corsica. The 1995 World Rally Championship was still under Group A regulations, meaning the car has a degree of simplicity that makes it genuinely useable on roads today – the systems on the car are infinitely simpler than those on a later WRC car and its conventional H-pattern gearbox makes running the car easier and arguably more enjoyable. It is also eligible for the FIA Historic Rally Championship. In late 1995, “94022” was sold to Prodrive’s prized privateer Frédéric Dor, who always had his cars in plain white but full factory spec beneath – and always run by the factory Prodrive team. Dor competed in both World Rallies and National Rallies in the car – his most notable result in the World Championship being a 6th overall in the 1997 Safari Rally. Driving 94022, Dor would go onto win rallies such as Rallye Terre de Corse and Rallye Terre des Drailles in 1998. The car remained in Dor’s private collection until 2016. A highly original, unquestioned, and truly useable factory McRae Subaru, from his World Championship-winning year. Today the car is registered L200 FDD, as per its time with Frédéric Dor. The car was registered L555 BAT while rallied by McRae and the Subaru World Rally Team in the 1995 World Rally Championship. 1995 Subaru Impreza 555 - Ex-Colin McRae Duncan Hamilton Rofgo Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1962 Lotus Elite SE

Superbly restored, a very well-presented example of one of Chapman’s earliest designs. The Elite Type 14 was Colin Chapman’s first production sports car that he designed for Lotus Cars, debuting in 1957. Lotus' design philosophy ran contrary to the prevailing norm, making their cars lighter, more aerodynamic and therefore more nimble, rather than increasing horsepower and weight enabling Lotus cars to outmanoeuvre much more powerful vehicles on track. It was very light, weighing just 630kg utilising a monocoque construction which meant there was no separate chassis, the body was load-bearing, and whilst this was becoming accepted practice, the Elite was the first time it had been constructed in glass-fibre. There were only two strips of steel in the car — a strip for the door hinges to attach to and a very small steel frame to which the engine and suspension were attached. When combined with independent sporty suspension, a ZF gearbox, disc brakes, a Coventry Climax all-aluminium engine and a very low drag coefficient of just 0.29, it made for a great drivers car, so much so that by production end in 1963 over 1,000 had been produced. The Elite was very expensive to produce - especially the GRP monocoque which was extremely labour-intensive (the first 280 were built by Maximar then production switched to Bristol Aircraft who built a further 760+ cars). It is estimated that Colin Chapman lost c.£100 on each Elite, so there was a backwards switch to a separate steel backbone chassis for the successor Elan, making it much cheaper to build. Offered here is very special Elite SE, presented in the wonderful period-correct Primrose Yellow with a silver metallic roof, matching Jim Clark’s road car. It's the higher performance, 85bhp factory variant (SE) which initially came fitted with twin SU carburettors, a fabricated exhaust system, the ZF Gearbox and Lucas PL700 headlamps. Purchased new in 1962 by Viscount Gough, it was subject to a complete 'last nut and bolt' restoration by the previous owner, who was meticulous in his attention to detail. In 2005, the bodywork was stripped back to the gel coat, all traces of repairs, stress cracks, and damage were removed and repaired using glass fibre only. The entire car was then re-spayed by Proline Paint, GRP specialists, costing in excess of £8,000, and all the lights were replaced with new-old-stock Lucas items. The interior is finished in black with grey carpet, the seats having been re-trimmed by a local ex-Aston Martin trimmer in black leather and the correct Irvin black seat belts were retained as was the original instrumentation, wood-rim steering wheel and its original Snail Brand tool kit and jack. Mechanically, the engine has been fully re-built up to FWB specification with a capacity of 1,460cc, using new components supplied by the premier Coventry Climax Engines specialist. These include a new-old-stock Coventry Climax crankshaft; Carrillo con-rods; new pistons; alloy five-bearing cam carrier; high-lift camshaft; new water and oil pumps; high-torque starter motor; re-cored radiator; thermostatically controlled Kenlowe electric cooling fan; new cast inlet manifold; and refurbished Weber DCOE 18 carburettors. In addition, the cylinder head has been fully ported, gas-flowed and rebuilt with larger inlet and exhaust valves. Having been fully balanced, it's not subject to the usual vibrations and shudders of an Elite. The engine will now safely rev to 7,000rpm plus, and should develop 120-125bhp. Standard fitment was a 4-speed MG gearbox with the highly sought after ZF all-synchro box offered, as an option on S2 models, but was part of the SE package. One of the drawbacks of the MG transmission was that it was low geared (standard rear axle ratio of 4.22:1 plus a direct fourth gear) meaning that the engine ran at quite high revs when cruising. This led to the development of a 5-speed Type-9 conversion – greatly improving driveability with its 'overdrive' fifth gear. This is all achieved without any modifications to the monocoque - so is completely reversible and vastly improves the driving experience. '905 FWB' is fitted with a Type 9 5-speed gearbox complete with a new clutch cover and drive plate. New bearings and universal joints were fitted throughout, and the 4.22:1 differential fully rebuilt, while the new 60-spoke wire wheels were fitted with period-correct Pirelli Cinturato tyres. In 2014, the suspension was replaced in its entirety by Tolman Motorsport. The original rear wishbones utilised a 'rubber ball' type location at the inboard end which can wear prematurely leading to instability caused by unwanted changes in toe angle. This Elite had the rear wishbones converted to rose joints in place of the 'ball & socket' arrangement, along with the Tolman Motorsport adjustable suspension set-up. Despite being MOT exempt, our vendor put the car through a voluntary MOT which it passed with no advisories, valid until 8th October 2024. Built in very small numbers (circa 1,040), and presenting in fabulous condition, this very well-sorted Elite is a delightful example. Having seen a full restoration with intelligent upgrades, this is certainly a car that Chapman would be proud to bear his name. 1962 Lotus Elite SE Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright Superbly restored, a very well-presented example of one of Chapman’s earliest designs. The Group 4 body panels were created using the original tooling in Italy, while the suspension is fully Rose-joined. The five-speed dog ’box is also to full Group 4 specification, and the 15in Campagnolo-style magnesium wheels have been fitted with Pirelli tyres. The 2.4-litre Dino V6 engine features ported and gas-flowed Group 4 heads with 45mm inlet valves and 39mm exhaust valves. High-compression pistons have been installed, along with an Arrow steel crankshaft and con-rods. It breathes through a trio of Weber 44 IDF carburettors and has a Group 4 air filter and box. • 1976-alfa-romeo-1600gt-junior

Fully restored and intelligently uprated, this beautiful little Alfa is on offer at a fraction of its build cost. Built from 1963 until 1977, the Alfa Romeo 105/115 Series Coupés were the successors to the celebrated Giulietta Sprint Coupé and used the shortened floor pan from the Giulia saloon. The basic body shape, shared by all models, was designed by the legendary Giorgetto Giugiaro for Bertone and although it was early in his career and one of his first major projects, this design is often regarded as some of his best work. The balance of glass and metal, the influence of the shape of the front and rear glass on the shape of the cabin and the flat grille with incorporated headlamps were all considered groundbreaking styling features for the era. Imported from South Africa in 2017, this particular 1600GT Junior has been the subject of a professional nut and bolt rebuild completed in 2021. It was stripped to a bare shell before being blasted back to bare metal to ensure that no corners were cut with regards to hidden areas of corrosion or deterioration within the shell. After the necessary repairs to the sills, wings, boot area and front valance were carried out, the shell was primed and repainted in Alfa Rosso to a superb standard with the underside being Raptor treated to ensure longevity. At this point the mechanical aspects of the Alfa were considered with the decision taken to upgrade where possible which involved the fitting of a replacement 1,962cc Alfa GTV engine supplied by VeloceSport, built to 'fast road' specification with a Petronix ignition system fitted to enhance usability. Sports suspension was fitted with adjustable suspension arms delivering an improved ride through a superb set of 15" alloy GTA-style road wheels. Additional enhancements include an aluminium foam-filled fuel tank with Facet fuel pump, alloy radiator with electric cooling fan, lightweight starter motor, uprated alternator, rebuilt brake servos and calipers all with new lines fitted with reliability and durability in mind. It should also be noted that all wiring was replaced with additional facilities built in should the future owner wish to fit spot lights, second fuel pump or rear rain/fog lights. A full wiring manual will be supplied within the history file. As you would expect from a build of this quality, the cabin space also received the required treatment with the seats being retrimmed in Magnolia hide enhanced by high quality carpeting providing an impressive interior which can only add to the overall enjoyment that we suggest this Alfa will bring to its next custodian. The owner's file contains an extensive photographic record of the restoration together with a copy of the Certificate of Originality from Alfa Romeo Classiche. With just 300 miles covered since the extensive and considered build was completed, it is suggested that a period of further running-in will be required to achieve the very best from this increasingly desirable Alfa and with that in mind we welcome and encourage your early inspection to ensure that this particular 105 fulfils your expectations. 1976 Alfa Romeo 1600GT Junior Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT by Scaglietti

According to marque expert Marcel Massini, chassis number 03266 was specified for the French market with yellow headlamps, and instruments in kilometres. Finished in Azzurro Metallizzato paint over an interior trimmed in Blu leather, the Dino was completed in January 1972 and distributed to Charles Pozzi SA, the official marque importer in Paris. Initially purchased by a French woman, the Dino was sold later that year to a second woman living in Paris who retained possession for 13 years. In 1986 the 246 GT was acquired by the consignor, and they soon commissioned Etablissements Tessier to perform a restoration, with correct parts sourced directly from Charles Pozzi SA, and a cosmetic refinish in the current livery of Rosso over black leather. Some years later, in February 2001, the engine was rebuilt by SOPRAD of Saint-Ouen-L’Aumone. Now offered from nearly 40 years of single-owner care, and claiming just two owners from its earliest days, this 246 GT presents beautifully, having been completely detailed for the current offering, and it may be enjoyed as is or considered for further restorative attention. Such a minimally used and well-maintained example of the celebrated Dino would make a handsome addition to any sporting collection. 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT by Scaglietti RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright According to marque expert Marcel Massini, chassis number 03266 was specified for the French market with yellow headlamps, and instruments in kilometres. • 1960 Ferrari 400 Superamerica SWB Cabriolet by Pinin Farina

Ferrari’s Superamerica models of the late 1950s and early 1960s were truly the last word in sporting excellence. Offering the very best money could buy in terms of luxury and performance, it is no surprise that these cars often found their way into the garages of heads of state, barons of industry, and other well-to-do individuals. Succeeding the 410 Superamerica, the 400 Superamerica offered numerous improvements over its predecessor. While the engine decreased in displacement from 5.0 liters to 4.0 liters, several other new features countered this. The 5.0-liter V-12 was a “long-block” Lampredi-designed unit, while the revised smaller engine was based on the Colombo single-overhead-camshaft powertrain that was first utilized in the 250 Europa GT. To increase the capacity from 3.0 liters, the bore was enlarged to 77 millimeters and the stroke was lengthened to 71 millimeters, providing a total capacity of 3,967 cubic centimeters. Furthermore, a twin-coil and distributor ignition system was used, along with triple Weber carburetors, granting the engine an improved 340 horsepower—but also an incredible 400 Nm (295 pound-feet) of torque from 2,000 rpm and a maximum torque or 450 Nm (331 pound-feet) at 6,000 rpm. As a result, these cars are considered today among the best-driving of 1960s Ferraris. Boasting 25% greater engine capacity than a 250 GT Berlinetta or California Spider, the 400 Superamerica produces far more horsepower and torque than either of its forebears. The 400 Superamerica was also fitted with an overdrive as standard—while no overdrive was available for the 250 GT models apart from the GTE—making it far more comfortable to drive over long distances. Finally, it is important to remember that the 400 Superamerica’s chassis and powertrain were so great that they provided the basis for the 330 LMB and 330 TRi racing cars, of which the 330 TRi LM won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1962. The 400 Superamerica production run can be divided into two groups, based on either long- or short-wheelbase chassis. The first batch of cars produced—which includes the car on offer here, chassis 1945 SA—boasted a 2,420-millimeter chassis, while the second batch boasts the longer 2,600-millimeter chassis. Of the short-wheelbase cars, just 25 examples were produced, with only seven bodied as cabriolets. THE THIRD OF SEVEN SHORT-WHEELBASE CABRIOLETS Chassis number 1945 SA was constructed in mid-1960 as the third of those seven short-wheelbase cabriolets, and it was built to left-hand-drive configuration with open headlamps. It was finished in a beautiful, one-off color combination of Verde Bottiglia (MM 16364) over Rosso (VM 3171). It was fitted from new with a set of three Weber 46 DCF carburetors, like on a 250 SWB “SEFAC Hot Rod,” and a pair of Bosch ignition distributors. The coachwork was completed by Pinin Farina in July of 1960 and was sold new to Helmut Horton, a German entrepreneur based in Croglio, Switzerland. In January of the following year, the car was registered in Milan under Horten Italiana S.r.l, and it remained in Italy for the following three years under Horton’s ownership. The Superamerica was officially exported out of Italy in spring of 1964 and was next known with a Mr. Warzits in Germany. By 1985, the car was acquired by Bernard Pfister of Geneva, Switzerland, now repainted white. Pfister repainted the car red in 1989 and it remained in Switzerland with him for the next few years, typically on display at Ferrari Suisse SA in Nyon. In June 1997, 1945 SA was listed for sale in Marseille, France and was purchased one month later by Scott Rosen of Bedford Hills, New York. Subsequently exported to the United States, the car remained in his ownership for two years before being purchased by the late noted sports car enthusiast Oscar Davis of Elizabeth, New Jersey. One year later, Davis sold the Superamerica to a Florida-based collector, yet the car would stay in northern New Jersey for the time being, as it was entrusted to Classic Coach for a full restoration. Founded in 1972 and well-known and regarded in Ferrari circles in the United States, Classic Coach was Ferrari’s first authorized bodywork repair facility in the US. Their owners would later open two authorized Ferrari dealerships in the US: Ferrari of Central Florida and Ferrari of Tampa Bay. It was decided that chassis 1945 SA would be returned to its original color combination of Verde Bottiglia over Rosso during this complete, frame-off restoration. No cost was spared to restore the Superamerica back to a spectacular standard. Following the completion of the restoration work, the car was shipped to noted Ferrari specialist Greg Jones of Stuart, Florida. Jones was entrusted with further dialing in the car mechanically, ensuring that every facet of the car worked perfectly. Receipts for the work completed by both Classic Coach and Greg Jones are in the car’s history file. Remaining with that owner until 2015, the car was sold via RM Sotheby’s to its current owner, a Monaco-based enthusiast—a discerning collector who happened to do business in the past with the first owner. With him, the car returned to Europe, and has been used and enjoyed as its manufacturer would have intended. Seen occasionally driving around the streets of Monaco, the car has been shown once at Elégance et Automobile à Monte-Carlo in 2019. Chassis 1945 SA was granted Ferrari Classiche certification in 2016, confirming that it retains its original body, chassis, transmission, and rear axle. Classiche documentation notes that the current engine, stamped 1945 SA, is a replacement engine that was installed by the Ferrari factory in November of 1963. With its current owner, the car has been very well maintained by Autofficina Omega of Corrado Patella, including further mechanical work to ensure it drives and performs as one would expect. Its most recent service work with them was the fitment of a new clutch in February 2020. Presenting in excellent condition throughout, this special 400 Superamerica SWB Cabriolet is sure to be welcomed with open arms at major concours events worldwide. Well-maintained and enjoyed with its current owner, it could easily be used on the road as a warm-weather weekend driver. Regardless of whether it is to be enjoyed on the open road or the concours lawn, it will certainly be a joy to own and will attract only the most favorable of compliments wherever it goes. 1960 Ferrari 400 Superamerica SWB Cabriolet by Pinin Farina RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
