Highlights of this Alfa Romeo Superlative restoration to very high standards One of 589 1964 Spiders built in the final series Three documented long-term owners Offered with rare factory hardtop Accompanied by boxes of binders, files, trophies, and photos History of the Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider Even at the outset of their earliest years, Alfa Romeo quickly proved their merits as leaders in design and engineering. This reputation prevailed in both competition cars and road cars benefiting from superlative engineering and exceptional design. The performance delivered from their twin-cam engines created a fantastic combination of prestige and performance. Following World War II, Alfa Romeo transitioned to more nimble, small displacement four-cylinder cars, but preference for the six-cylinder engine remained in their Gran Turismo cars. This engine, a direct descendant of the legendary pre-war dual overhead camshaft design, offered increased displacement to 2584cc, producing 145hp, fed by triple Solex twin-choke carburetors. The exotic alloy motor was both durable and reliable, famously serving the Italian Carbinieri's "Squadra Volante" as high-speed police pursuit vehicles. In the spirit of the great 6C cars, the 2600 series offered beautifully designed and patented Superleggera coachwork from Touring of Italy, which blended perfectly with Alfa Romeo engineering and superlative performance. Unlike the many higher volume production cars of the era, the 2600 continued with handmade construction traditions carefully developed and pioneered under patent at Touring. When the first examples were completed, the 2600 revealed itself to be a capable performance car with just the right balance of comfort and luxury, offering superb open-air road manners. Although more suited for long distance driving, given the larger displacement, wider torque band, standard 5-speed transmission, and spacious storage, the 2600 Spider became popular among driving enthusiasts who appreciated the comfort, performance, and ease of use these cars offered. These criteria still ring true today as collectors have increasingly realized how perfectly matched these cars are for events and tours, particularly when compared to contemporary Ferraris of the era at a fraction of their current market price. History of this Alfa Romeo Touring Spider According to research gathered by the current owner and documented in the copious notebooks assembled for this car, this Alfa Romeo 2600 was produced in late 1964 and delivered to the first owner, a US military officer stationed in Belgium. A series II European specification spider, the car was built with Italian metric gauges, Carello lighting marked “Fur Deutchland”, four-wheel disc brakes, and a rear opening hood. The car was initially delivered to an American military officer who first licensed it in Belgium before shipping it to the US in the 1970s. The officer retained the car for 17 years in the Washington DC area until selling it to the next owner in 1981, also a resident of the metro DC area. The second owner also retained the car for 17 years until consignment with Motorcar Gallery in 1998. The current owner purchased the car on October 22, 1998 (purchase invoice included with documentation) from Motorcar Gallery, Fort Lauderdale, FL with (1)09,642 kilometers recorded on the 1998 odometer statement. At the time of purchase, the car was finished in red with black leather interior. After his purchase, the third and current owner transported the car to Northern California in 1998 where it has remained for the past 27 years. A dedicated enthusiast, the current owner commissioned a cost-no-object restoration to the highest standards documenting the entire process which included initial years of research and six years of restoration efforts engaging some of the very best specialists in their field, followed by years of ongoing refinement, detailed improvements, and in the past five years further mechanical efforts culminating in one of the finest restorations of a series II spider. The restoration began with complete disassembly of the unibody, removal of all glass, doors, hood, and trunk lid, and mounting on a rotisserie for floor pan, rocker, and other sheet metal work. Hans Turley, Auburn, CA, a trained European body specialist performed the body and paint work finishing it in metallic silver, an Alfa Romeo color from the period. Of particular note and impossibly rare, an original factory hardtop was finished in gloss black and retains the original complex curved rear glass. The interior was finished in blue leather by veteran Pebble Beach winners Ken and Cindy Nemenic, Walnut Creek, CA. Credited with numerous Pebble Beach class wins and bests of show, the Nemenics are considered among the premier interior restoration specialists in the world. The interior was trimmed with Connolly leather for the seats and side panels, and Wilton Wool carpets. The finishes were supported by correct period materials, correct patterns, and padding, while the dash was recovered in black. All interior trim was carefully restored to factory specifications including the correct canvas top and inner liner. The beautifully restored correct Nardi wood rim wheel and Blaupunkt radio were original equipment when delivered new. All gauges, switches, window cranks, and other interior details were also comprehensively restored, here too on a cost no object basis. Under the hood, the 2600 engine and all electrical, fuel, and mechanical accessories were carefully restored by Alfa Romeo expert Laurence Anderson, Berkeley, CA. Fitted from the factory with Weber carburetors, specialized intake manifold and independent runners, the alloy block seven main bearing engine was rebuilt including all rotational assembly, oil cooler, and finned oil sump. The induction system, exhaust, cooling, oil system, brakes and suspension system with Koni shock absorbers, rebuilt steering box, all new bushings, lines, hoses, and other components were also comprehensively restored to the highest standards finishing with Pirelli tires mounted on professionally rebuilt original Borrani 400mm wire wheels which, according to the current owner’s notes, the original owner specified with his purchase when new. Upon completion of the restoration, the car was shown at the 2008 Palo Alto Concours d’Elegance and continued to be refined through the ongoing years as the owner sorted details and performance improvements over the next seventeen years. In 2016 and 2017 the engine was removed and dyno tested at Hasselgren Engineering, Berkeley, CA including improvements to the carburetion and overall engine operation. By 2022 the car was delivered to Italian sports car experts Epifani Restorations, Berkeley, CA. The engine and transmission were removed and the engine delivered to Hasselgren while further work was performed on the car through 2024. Invoices accompanying the car include disassembling the engine components and delivering the engine to Hasselgren for testing, rebuilding the brake calipers including master cylinder, rebuilding the clutch master and slave cylinders, radiator and oil cooler repair, install new u-joints, new throwout bearing installed, forks and shifter gate adjusted, wiring harness installed, and final assembly with testing, adjustments, all new fluids, and final fit and finish of repainted parts and details as part of the $25,000 worth of work performed at this time. Over the span of current ownership, it is estimated that more than $400k was spent on the restoration of this car. And while this is a monumental amount, the results achieved by a dedicated enthusiast unafraid to seek out the best workmanship from top-tier suppliers and craftsmen speaks volumes when viewing the exceptional results achieved in this 2600 Spider. The following awards were received for this car. Where noted, the trophy and ribbons are included with the car: 2008 Palo Alto Concors d'Elegance - 1st in Class (award) 2005 Concorso Italiano Italian Exhibitor (ribbon) 2004 Hillsborough Concours d'Elegance - 3rd in Class (award and paperweight) 2004 Silverado Concours d'Elegance - 3rd place (award, dash plaque, ribbon) Current Condition and Presentation Today this beautiful Alfa 2600 presents in exceptionally fine condition featuring smooth and glossy silver metallic paint throughout. The overall finish features a fine metal flake, excellent panel work, and vivid reflections. The body panels and gaps are excellent with hood and trunk easily opened and closed including the doors, which have crisp closures and solid latching. The chrome is excellent throughout with consistent finish and contours even on parts that more typically will show pitting or crazing over time. The door handles, side trim, and headlight trim are quite nice including the thin windshield trim, Carello headlights, lenses, and lighting. The tail lights and one front indicator light show cracks in the lensing, which is understandable given the rarity of these pieces, but spare replacement parts are included with the car. The grille work and lighting are unique to this design and are ideally mated to the bodywork. The elegant body lines are very reminiscent of the Ferrari 250 PF Cabriolet, further enhanced by proportions and perfect stance highlighted by the elegant silver finish. The beautifully finished Borrani wire wheels are shod with period correct Pirelli Cinturato radial tires which enhance the delicate wheel flares and low-profile convertible beltline. The stunning medium blue leather interior is exceptional throughout. Finished by expert upholsterer and veteran Pebble Beach winners Ken and Cindy Nemenic, the Connelly leather seats, door panels, rear seating area, dashboard, and numerous other interior features are beautifully tailored. The elegant soft blue color is the ideal companion to the silver exterior delivering fashionable Italian style invoking the 1960s. A set of seat belts are installed using appropriate woven belt material and vintage buckles. The Wilton wool carpeting over the central tunnel is in excellent condition and well matched to the leather color. The dashboard is beautifully finished and a delight to the eye. The instruments have clear lenses with contrasting color dials and consistent finishes. The correct co steering wheel and horn emblem are handsome accents to the interior as are the various accessories, switches, and control knobs. The convertible top is in excellent condition as is the clear plastic rear window, latch mechanisms, and restored top bows. The trunk is finished with a correct rubber mat and proper battery surround with textured materials. Under the floor the spare tire well houses a full-sized Borrani wheel and Pirelli tire. The original wood tool case and tools are included, containing a selection of various tools and tire pressure gauge. The engine compartment is consistent with the excellence achieved in the restoration revealing a sublime twin-cam triple carburetor array of motoring excellence. The engine and engine compartment are well-detailed, correctly finished, and feature correct yellow fuel lines, original factory stampings and chassis plates, and other hallmarks of Alfa Romeo handmade construction. The car is equipped with rare triple Weber carburetors and factory intake manifold which have been dialed in by Hasselgren Engineering, and the engine has been dyno tested which is documented with power output charts and results recorded with the documentation accompanying this car. The underside of the car has been properly restored and serviced with finishes that can confidently present at any concours event. Details of note include a finned alloy oil pan, Koni shock absorbers, correct rear axle limit straps, correct exhaust, and recently replaced suspension bushings and brake lines. The car starts easily, settling into a smooth loping idle. The 5-speed synchromesh gearbox shifts well and the disc brakes and independent coil spring front suspension work in harmony with the chassis and weight of the car. As the owner chose to build the engine with performance in mind, with 200+hp on tap, even a skilled driver will need some time getting to know the nature of this high-strung motor. Though starts are smooth and gentle, power comes on quickly as the engine pulls hard and fast through the power band. Keeping the revs up and maintaining momentum makes for an exhilarating drive. Handling is very satisfying, with excellent road manners at higher speeds and delightful cruising with the top down. This beautifully restored three-owner 2600 Spider is a superb open Italian coachbuilt sports car with similar characteristics found in a Ferrari PF Cabriolet or Maserati Vignale at a fraction of the price. Ready for shows, tours, or engaging open air driving, the Alfa Romeo 2600 continues to be recognized as one of the most elegant and timeless touring cars of the Golden Age of sports cars – one that will surely be enjoyed by generations of enthusiasts for years to come. We are proud to present an extraordinary opportunity to own a piece of Formula 1 history: the 1997 Ferrari F310B, exclusively driven by Michael Schumacher. As curators of investment-grade automobiles, we don't just sell cars—we preserve legacies. This unrestored, race-ready icon, acquired from a Ferrari executive board member, will be showcased at The Quail and the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, offering collectors a chance to acquire a car with an unparalleled story. In 1997, Ferrari's 50th anniversary year, the F310B marked a turning point for the Maranello team. Refined by legends John Barnard, Rory Byrne, and Ross Brawn, this car was a leap forward from its predecessor, boasting a more reliable 046/2 V10 engine, advanced aerodynamics, and a cutting-edge seven-speed gearbox actuation system. It was Ferrari's final wide-track racer before 1998 regulations, making this chassis a rare artifact of a pivotal era. This very chassis carried Schumacher to victory at the 1997 Japan Grand Prix at Suzuka, one of five wins that season (Monaco, Canada, France, Belgium, and Japan). With 102 points, Ferrari mounted its strongest championship challenge since 1990. The F310B's most dramatic moment came at the 1997 Jerez finale, where Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve, separated by a single point, battled for the Drivers' Championship. In an unprecedented qualifying session, Schumacher, Villeneuve, and Heinz-Harald Frentzen posted identical times of 1:21.072—a statistical anomaly. The race itself became infamous when Schumacher's attempt to defend his lead resulted in a controversial collision, leading to his disqualification from the season but cementing this chassis place in F1 lore. Unrestored and in as-raced condition, this chassis remains a living testament to Ferrari's relentless pursuit of excellence and Schumacher's uncompromising drive. Having seen limited track-day use, it is both a collector's masterpiece and a functional piece of motorsport history. This is more than a car—it's a Hollywood-worthy saga of triumph, controversy, and redemption. Join us during Car Week 2025 as we unveil this special art piece at The Quail and Pebble Beach Concours to experience this iconic Ferrari F310B. - 1973-porsche-911-27-carrera-rs-lightweight
The car offered here for sale is a true and factory lightweight being an M471 specification example that was completed at the factory in January 1973. Delivered new to Switzerland, this example was finished in the now iconic combination of “2201/11” (Grand Prix White) with Blue script. In true spirit of ‘M471’, the first owner opted for the lightest trim possible, without any other options. The RS was supplied new to Mr Durst by dealership Autohaus Moser, Thun on 19th February 1973. Durst would retain the car for four years, ahead of its sale to Mr Suremann of Wallisellen near Zurich who would keep the car a further 6 years. Its third owner, Mr Hug would purchase in 1983 from Cigolla Porsche of Waldshut-Tiengen, maintaining it locally with Garage Baumann. In 1988, the 2.7 RS was sourced from Garage Albert Ulrich of Dubendorf by avid Goodwood racer Norman Grimshaw who purchased the car and imported it into the UK. The car was subjected to a strip down and the restoration was commenced but was bit completed before its purchase by its next keeper in 2002; well-known collector and expert in historic Porsches, Russell Edmond Harris. Having owned over eighty examples of 1973 2.7 Carrera RS and more than 20% of the 1974 3.0 RS factory production, Edmond Harris retained this example along with a second car in his private collection. Tasking famed expert Neil Bainbridge of BS Motorsport with a completing a comprehensive restoration, there are a wealth of invoices on file documenting restorative works to the shell. Towards the end of the restoration in August 2008, the car was placed for sale for personal reasons and was reassembled using the engine as it was removed. Autofarm handled the sale to Mr Cavezzale who would retain the car for five years. Cavezzale completed the comprehensive nature of the restoration and tasked Autofarm with full suspension, engine and gearbox rebuilds. In October 2013, the 2.7 RS moved to Holland, finding residence with the nephew of the owner of the Porsche Centre. Mr Dullaart cared for the car for two years ahead of its return to the UK by noted Ferrari & Porsche collector, Mr Hart. Between 2019 and 2022, the RS was kept in the car of Mr Probert who once more tasked BS Motorsport with looking after the car. Some rectification works were carried out by Bainbridge including the fitment of the correct headlining and new fuel lines to accommodate modern fuel. Sold by DK Engineering the most recent custodian, the 2.7 RS has most recently been stored as a part of a prominent collection within our secure storage facility. Today the car remains in “as restored” and superb condition being presented in its original colour combination and being matching numbers. It has now covered a thought-genuine 71,140 kms from new and just over 7,000 kms since the rebuild was completed. The car is accompanied by a superb file that documents and traces the car back to its first owner as well as containing a wealth of invoices confirming the extent of the full restoration and indeed its superior quality. A report by noted expert Jochen Bader was carried out in April 2025 and is available to view on request. Highlights for this car One of 45 Series 1 26R factory race cars built by Lotus Lap record holder at Laguna Seca and Sonoma 2022 Class Rolex Award for Excellence Virtually unbeatable recent race results Documented ownership history since new Excellent condition with top-level mechanical preparation A rare and historically important Lotus ready for race use General History With the introduction of the Model 26 Elan in 1962, Lotus was poised to deliver superlative engineering and innovative racing concepts into a well-balanced lightweight competition car, cleverly cloaked in street trim. The genius behind Colin Chapman was not limited to building great racing cars, rather that they served a dual, albeit often challenging purpose – a car that can compete but still be usable on the street. With the new Elan, the results hit the target perfectly. The 1,500 lb roadster utilized a steel backbone frame with bonded fiberglass body panels, refined suspension, and disc brakes all around. Though racing for the Elan was limited to privateer entrants in the early days, it became clear that the Elan proved to be a massive success in the hands of capable drivers. In 1964 the Elan became homologated as the 26R. Spanning a mere two years, 97 examples were constructed in both S1 and S2 configurations. Vastly superior due to the small footprint, lightweight construction, and capable twin cam engine, many standard Lotus Elans were privately built to racing specifications but only 97 factory prepared race cars were built by Lotus. Refinements included a stiffened chassis, triangulated rollbar, up-rated suspension using competition wishbones and sliding spline drive shafts, wider magnesium wheels, lightweight thinner skin laminate body construction with covered cowl-type headlights, and dual circuit disc brakes with light alloy calipers. A BRM or Cosworth purpose-built race engine netting 135-165 hp was mated to magnesium cast gearboxes and limited slip aluminum alloy differential carriers to further save weight. Top level drivers would achieve win after win behind the wheel of these capable and impressive sports cars so much so that motorsports press would herald these cars as giant killers, taking down cars with often double the engine size, backed by millions of dollars in corporate funding. Of the 97 competition 26R models built, a mere 30 factory original examples are purported to exist today due in part to the nature of racing and the consistent improvements made as the model evolved. General Overview This factory-built Lotus 26R was assembled in 1964 as serial number 37, among the last of the Series 1 examples constructed (45 in all), it was finished with BRG livery, fitted with engine #156 41 002, and delivered to the first owner, Mr. Henry Kelley, on July 11, 1964. Kelley raced the car at Oulton Park, Brands Hatch, and Donington Raceway. In 1968 the car was purchased by Frank Opalka, Chicago, IL who raced the car from 1968-1988 in both Production and Production Modified SCCA classes, sharing wheel time with John Gabriel. In 1990 the car was sold to John Weinberger (Continental Motors, Chicago, IL) who enlisted expert Jim Groom in Berkeley, CA to rest0re the car. Under his ownership, the drive yolk broke while at speed participating in the David Love races. The resultant body damage was assessed and determined that a new body shell would be better than repairing the older shell. The older body shell was removed, all parts transferred to the new body, various details freshened, and a new super lightweight fiberglass Tony Thompson body was purchased and installed. The chassis was sent to Jim Groom who previously had built the roll cage. Groom repaired the cage and assessed the frame, determining it to be straight and not in need of repairs. Weinberger raced the car at Road America and other NE venues. By 1995 the car was sold to Greg Whitten, Seattle, WA a well-known Lotus racing enthusiast with two other 26Rs in his collection. The ACCUS FIA/USA technical passport was assigned to the car in 2007. Whitten sold the car to the next owner, a Seattle, WA resident who achieved several wins and podium finishes at Sonoma, Laguna Seca, Road America, Watkins Glen, and Mount Tremblac. The current owner purchased the car in 2021. Importantly, this rare car has always been in the hands of thoughtful enthusiasts and carefully prepared by Lotus racing professionals tending to all mechanical details as evidenced by 230 pages of detailed records outlining work performed on the car from 2007-2021, including several entries for work performed in 2021, 2020, and 2019 as well as extensive preparation under current ownership. Among the more notable work performed on the car, in 2005, the gearbox was rebuilt, and Veloce Motors West prepared a specially built engine to mate with the freshly built gearbox. Dyno sheets and summary letter indicate peak power of 185hp within the 8,000 – 8,300 rpm range. Invoices for the engine work, gear ratios, engine components, and dyno sheet accompany the car. Although a wet sump engine, it runs as a dry sump configuration with a large volume oil pan. A new SAS cylinder head was installed in 2016. In April 2021, in preparation for Monterey week racing at Laguna Seca, a new racing harness was installed, a new radiator fitted, and a custom tach cable installed. 2020 work included the installation of the engine, chassis dyno time, new fuel lines, Quaife GR kit, new main case, and axle seals. Under current ownership, in September 2022 Deutsche Motorsports, Concord, CA installed new brake rotors and pads, new front and rear shock absorbers, new front anti-roll bar, weld repair for the driveshaft, and nut/battery inspection. in April 2023 Thompson Racing supplied a new complete cassette type lightweight Mig welded roll cage, which is included with the car, ready for installation. Work performed in preparation for Monterey, July 2023, also by Deutsche included fluids, new battery (battery box modified for better fit), nut/bolt/chassis inspection, and brake check. In October 2023 Turbohoses R&D, Livermore, CA removed the engine and disassembled the transmission to repair the shift rod and weld shift assembly. The transmission, having been converted to a dog ring type with internals in a stock case required some clearance correction. The shaft bushing was machined for better fit, and clearance modifications made to improve shift performance. At the Monterey Rolex Reunion the current owner qualified on class pole (GT cars under 2.5 liters) but started both races from the back for fun. From 24th, it won both races posting lap times that would have been competitive running with Shelby Cobras and Ferrari 250 GTOs in the over 2.5-liter class. This Lotus also won overall in the Monterey Historics SCCA Production Sports Car field in 2022 and was given the class Rolex Award for Excellence. In 2023 it was on Pole and won overall at Velocity Invitational against 250LMs. In total under current ownership this 26R has proved victorious no less than three times at the Rolex Reunion and three times at the Velocity Invitational, while demonstrating the quickest recorded times for any Lotus Elan-based car at both Sonoma Raceway and Laguna Seca. From a competition perspective, this example has proven to be essentially unbeatable. General Condition Today this historically important Lotus has been faithfully cared for and properly prepared for vintage event competition. With multiple experts weighing in on the provenance in period and over the past 47 years, the current cosmetic condition is reflective of the original BRG racing livery and sensitively performed upgrades appropriate for modern competition use. The attention to detail from the bodywork to the mechanical features is evident throughout every aspect of the car. The paintwork overall is glossy, with typical stone chips on front facing surfaces consistent with vintage race duty. The magnesium wheels and racing tires are in excellent condition, appropriately sized and tucked under the gently flared wheel arches. The clear lenses covering the fixed headlights, rear lighting, windscreen and hardtop are also in very good condition. A single yellow stripe tracks the center of the car, flanked by twin pin stripes and white meatballs adorned with number 37. Quad taillights, chrome door handles, and rocker panel air scoops (which aid in rear brake cooling) blend the road and competition feel of these early S1 factory homologated race cars. The windshield is adorned with numerous event stickers from the past five years indicating recent racing participation at some of the most respected racing venues on the west coast. The cockpit is clean and very well laid out offering excellent right hand driving position and natural access to the shifter and foot pedals. Twin formed bucket seats match the flat black interior finishes, and a competition five-point seat belt dated to December 2023 protects the driver while a wide lap belt awaits a fortunate passenger should the opportunity arise. A fire suppression system is also professionally installed along with a lightweight and recently fitted (July 2023) battery mounted to the footwell area of the passenger compartment. The roll bar features side impact cross member construction at both doors, while the black finish dashboard offers vintage instruments, protected toggle switches, and a Lotus branded steering wheel. Purposefully constructed with racing in mind, there is a nice blend of vintage components and high-level finish that completes the cockpit in a very cohesive manner. Under the removable hood, the capable twin-cam engine sits proudly upright, defying the low hood line and considerable power derived from such a potent 4-cylinder engine. The compact engine is finished with black crackle coating over the cam covers while the intake side is fed by 45DCOE Weber carburetors and a correct air box, force fed from a large intake hose at the front of the car. The opposite side of the engine features four beautifully formed exhaust header tubes exiting to stainless steel exhaust. Everything from the aluminum radiator to the plumbing, lines, hoses, and fittings are all beautifully and purposefully assembled to a high level of finish. The hinged trunk is finished in flat black and houses a professionally built fuel tank with proper hardware and lines. Underneath the car, the quality continues to amaze with excellent components, beautifully built suspension, robust axle shafts, and thoughtful detailing. This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire an historically correct and documented example of one of the most important Lotus competition cars ever built. The Lotus 26R is not only a legendary racecar from an historic perspective, it will confidently compete at the head of the pack in any current vintage racing event, just as it has in recent races. The excellent mechanical condition, known ownership history, and the historic importance of factory construction figure prominently in the rarity and usability of this rare and desirable Series 1 Lotus 26R. PLEASE NOTE: although this car has been previously prepared for competition use, we recommend that a qualified race shop review the car to determine all systems are appropriately prepared before it is used in a competition setting. Items Included with the Car This car is accompanied by service records spanning more than 20 years, a copy of the ACCUS Historic Technical Report, numerous notes compiled from former owners, a Lotus Elan E001A roll cage, new on palate (purchased April 2023), seven coil springs of various ratings, various bagged parts, gaskets, and misc. hub parts, Facet fuel pump, and a spare sway bar. 1964 Lotus 26R Fantasy Junction If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1989 Alfa Romeo Spider
The Certificate of Origin we have with the car confirms it was produced in March 1989 and delivered in April to Mönchengladbach in Germany. From there is travelled to the UK and records show it was there in 1994. We can assume it was converted to RHD during its time in the UK where conversions were common and done well by authorised companies such as Bell and Colvill. All Series 3 and 4 cars left the factory as LHD cars however they were sought after in the UK and conversions were quite common until production ceased in 1994. The car has spent most of its life in Australia and the import plate shows it arrived in 1995. It shows no signs of any corrosion and was recently subject to fresh coat of paint. During preparation no signs of corrosion were evident anywhere and the original colour is spectacular. Over the last 2 years the owner has invested in excess of $30,000 with the car benefitting from new old stock Dell Orto carburettors, new disc brakes and callipers, new Eibach springs and shock absorbers, electric fuel pump, 1-2-3 ignition, hoses, bushes and so on. A thick folder of invoices accompanies the car. The interior is a lovely place to be and the period Momo Prototipo steering wheel greets you as you get in. The instruments are clear and present as new. The odometer is reading 110,000mns and the general condition of the car suggests this is original. The dash is without any cracks at all. The seats have been recovered at some point in a blue velour, as have the door cards. Whilst not original they are extremely well done and suit the car well. In the hot Australian climate, they are certainly more useable than the original black vinyl. They are comfortable and have no marks, rips or tears. The correct type of mohair hood is fitted and is in perfect condition. The car wears period correct Alfa Romeo alloy wheels which have been refurbished and present as new. They complete the car and look superb. Start the engine and you immediately know you are in an Alfa Romeo. The 2000cc engine fires up with that familiar growl and then you are away. Out on the open road this car drives incredibly well and the gearbox is a delight to use without any issues on any of the synchro’s. The steering is very precise and accurate as you would expect given the work invested. The original fuel injection was replaced by dual Dell Orto carburettors and this has translated to an incredibly responsive and usable power delivery. Of note is the car still retains its correct and matching numbers engine. Overall, this is an example of a later Spider in excellent condition without any signs of historic corrosion and suggests it has led a pampered life. There is a lot to like about this car, particularly given the asking price. It is a superb driving car in a stunning original colour combination. A wonderful opportunity to own an Italian convertible with all the work done. 1989 Alfa Romeo Spider Сlassic Сar Market If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. 1995 Subaru Impreza 555 - Ex-Colin McRae, and part of his World Championship-winning campaign. There is nothing more iconic in the rally world than a “blue McRae Subaru” – and nothing more special than a car from his World Championship-winning campaign. The late, great Colin McRae only won the World Rally Championship once, taking the 1995 crown for the works 555 Subaru World Rally Team, but he certainly did it in style, mud-sliding his way to victory in front of his home crowd at Rally GB on 22nd November 1995. This car, chassis PRO/STI/01/94022 was used by McRae on the Monte Carlo and Tour de Corse Rallies in his championship year, scoring points with a 5th place in Corsica. The 1995 World Rally Championship was still under Group A regulations, meaning the car has a degree of simplicity that makes it genuinely useable on roads today – the systems on the car are infinitely simpler than those on a later WRC car and its conventional H-pattern gearbox makes running the car easier and arguably more enjoyable. It is also eligible for the FIA Historic Rally Championship. In late 1995, “94022” was sold to Prodrive’s prized privateer Frédéric Dor, who always had his cars in plain white but full factory spec beneath – and always run by the factory Prodrive team. Dor competed in both World Rallies and National Rallies in the car – his most notable result in the World Championship being a 6th overall in the 1997 Safari Rally. Driving 94022, Dor would go onto win rallies such as Rallye Terre de Corse and Rallye Terre des Drailles in 1998. The car remained in Dor’s private collection until 2016. A highly original, unquestioned, and truly useable factory McRae Subaru, from his World Championship-winning year. Today the car is registered L200 FDD, as per its time with Frédéric Dor. The car was registered L555 BAT while rallied by McRae and the Subaru World Rally Team in the 1995 World Rally Championship. 1995 Subaru Impreza 555 - Ex-Colin McRae Duncan Hamilton Rofgo Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1960 Ferrari 250SWB Competizione
Chassis number 2177 GT is a particularly rare example of the Ferrari 250 GT Short Wheelbase. Its frame was sent to Carrozzeria Scaglietti in Modena on 6 September 1960 so that it could receive its hand crafted special order steel bodywork. The competition specification V12 engine – numero interno 612F – was completed on 25 October and it was dyno-tested two days later. The results are noted in the car’s build sheet and show that it produced an impressive 281bhp at 7500rpm. 2177 GT was an unusual steel bodied Competizione model. In that respect, it shares characteristics with 1993 GT and 1995 GT, which were the first two Short Wheelbases to be exported to the UK for British distributor Maranello Concessionaires. The late Richard Colton – the long-term owner of 1995 GT – used to take exception to anyone referring to his car as a Lusso. The history file for 2177 GT includes copies of letters from Colton in which he refers to it as being, in effect, a steel-bodied Competizione in the manner of 1993 GT and 1995 GT. I understand that possibly the Colton car is semi comp engine as per the H & H Catalogue description The engine therefore featured the high-lift Tipo 130 camshafts, lightweight con-rods and a 9.4:1 compression ratio, while its Weber 40 DCL carburettors had 32mm chokes. The car was also fitted with stiffer springs front and rear, the Competizione ribbed gearbox, a competition exhaust and brackets to accept a quick-lift jack. The window surrounds are in alloy and every conceivable comp feature was originally specified. The rear axle ratio of 8/32 was well-suited to hillclimb use, and 2177 GT was delivered new on 29 October 1960 to its first owner – a Mr Zimmerman in Switzerland. The supplying dealership was Italauto SA, which was based in Lausanne and was owned by Emmanuel ‘Toulo’ de Graffenried – a former racing driver who won the 1949 British Grand Prix. It’s said that the Swiss hillclimb fraternity preferred the steel body because it was stiffer, harder-wearing and easier to repair than aluminium. Zimmerman kept 2177 GT until 1962, when he sold it to Armand Boller. Geneva-based Boller was a banker and gentleman racer, and entered the Short Wheelbase for the famous Ollon-Villars hillclimb on 25 August. The event was a round of that year’s European Mountain Championship and attracted a strong field, and Boller finished an impressive fifth in class. In early 1963, Boller acquired a 250 GTO and would go on to race his latest Ferrari under the banner of Scuderia Filipinetti. Georges Filipinetti was a key figure on the European Ferrari scene at that time, and his competition cars were driven by the likes of Herbert Müller and future Formula 1 star Jo Siffert. Boller was part of that tight-knit group and it’s thought that Siffert might have had at least one outing in 2177 GT in a Swiss event, but so far it has not been possible to prove this theory, he is however mentioned in the Ferrari service sheet. After Boller bought the GTO, his Short Wheelbase was sold to another Swiss racing driver – Walter Ringgenberg. A Ferrari enthusiast who had previously owned an alloy-bodied 250 GT Short Wheelbase Competizione (1771 GT) as well as a 250 GT ‘Tour de France’, Ringgenberg was a hotelier and restaurateur from Bern. A personal friend of Ferry Porsche, he had raced a 356 during 1953 and ’54 before moving up to a Porsche 550 for 1955. On 18 March that year, he and works driver Richard von Frankenberg used the new car to set six international 1500cc class records at Montlhéry near Paris, and in June Ringgenberg shared it at Le Mans with Hans-Jörg Gilomen. By the time he bought 2177 GT, Ringgenberg had mostly given up circuit racing preferring hillclimb events, and he entered 2177GT in three events during 1964. In May, he finished third in class at Mitholz-Kandersteg, and went one better at Sierre-Crans-Montana in August. That event was part of the International Championship for GT Manufacturers, in which the GTO was being pushed every inch of the way by the Shelby Cobra, and it therefore attracted a strong entry. Pierre Sudan won the 3-litre class in his GTO with a two-run aggregate time of 15 minutes 6.8 seconds, but second was Ringgenberg, who posted 15 minutes 40.4 seconds in 2177 GT. It was a superb result in such a high-profile hillclimb. Ringgenberg ended his season with an appearance at Eigental, and in 1966 he sold the Short Wheelbase to a new owner in the US, racing driver, entrepreneur and car dealer Bob Grossman via the Swiss dealership owned by Paul Blancpain and Jo Siffert. Having grown up in Philadelphia, Grossman settled in Nyack, New York after serving in World War Two. He was a talented singer who used to pay for singing lessons by buying and selling cars – something that soon became his main business. He acquired a Jaguar dealership via Max Hoffman and got into racing with an XK 120 in Sports Car Club of America events. It was via Jaguar that he got to know Briggs Cunningham, and Grossman would race Lister-Jaguars as well as Lightweight E-types with the renowned American privateer. He also established a close relationship with Luigi Chinetti and over the years would gain considerable experience with various Ferraris, from an alloy bodied 250 GT California Spyder which he raced to fifth place overall at Le Mans to Short Wheelbases and GTOs. In 1963, Grossman had been elected as president of the Road Racing Drivers Club, an elite group that included a number of the most highly skilled sports car drivers in the United States, and the following year he took a Ferrari GTO (5573 GT) to ninth place overall at Le Mans with team-mate Fernand Tavano. According to Ferrari historian Marcel Massini, Grossman raced 2177 GT at the Mount Equinox hillclimb in 1966 and after spending some time in the Grossman fleet the car was sold on to fellow racing driver and Ferrari customer from Massachusetts Dudley Cunningham the following year to sit alongside the ex-works Ferrari 340 MM (0322AM) in which talented Marzotto brothers finished fifth overall at Le Mans in 1953. Cunningham kept 2177GT until 1975 racing it in SCCA events during the early years of his ownership. He sold it – via an advert that claimed it to be ‘ex-Jo Siffert’ – to the Ferrari historian and author Jim Riff, who was based in Illinois. He set about having 2177 GT restored. The process included an engine rebuild, and stripping the Ferrari to bare metal, which showed a remarkable lack of accident damage for a car that had been used in competition. When it was finished, 2177 GT finished second in class at the Ferrari Club of America’s concours in St Louis, having been driven there from Chicago by Jim in the pouring rain! During Riff’s ownership, the Short Wheelbase was often entered for concours events, and in 1985 he also raced it in a historic event at Elkhart Lake. That same year, 2177 GT appeared on the cover of Ken Gross’s book Ferrari 250 GT SWB, which was published by Osprey. Riff sold the car in 1986 to California based Tom Byrnes, who raced it in the Monterey Historics weekend at Laguna Seca in 1987 and 1989. Its next custodians were Phillipe Brecht and then Martin Van Doorne, who had the Short Wheelbase restored in 1994-95. Van Doorne later displayed 2177 GT at Ferrari’s 50th anniversary event in Rome and Maranello, before selling it to Geneva-based watchmaker and co-founder of the Swiss Ferrari Club Dr Peter Baumberger. In 1999, the car was acquired by Austrian Jean-Robert Grellet. Grellet had it repainted yellow and went on to enter the car regularly for events such as the Ennstal Classic, the Giro di Sicilia Revival Targa Florio and the Grand Prix Montreaux. Ferrari also invited 2177 GT to be part of its 70th anniversary celebrations at its Fiorano test track. Thanks to its incredible versatility as a competition car that can also be driven comfortably on the road, there are those who covet the Short Wheelbase above even the GTO. It certainly continued the level of motorsport success that enthusiasts had come to expect from the 250 GT series. With its Swiss competition history, its rare specification and its fascinating cast of characters, 2177 GT was very much part of this legendary period in Ferrari history. 1960 Ferrari 250SWB Competizione The Classic Motor Hub If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. It marks the end of an era: the final generation powered by an air-cooled engine. And that’s exactly what makes it so beloved among enthusiasts and purists. The 993 combines timeless design with modern engineering and introduced a new multilink rear suspension that took handling to the next level. No digital distractions—just pure driving experience. Mechanical, honest, and full of character—for many, the ultimate 911. And ours? Our 993 was originally delivered in Germany and has always been carefully maintained. The mileage of 166.339 km is fully documented, and the car still wears its original paint. This is no restoration project, but a clean, well-preserved example ready for many more miles of driving pleasure. What makes this car truly special is its unique specification. The exterior in Silver Metallic exudes understated elegance, while the interior is far from standard: fully finished in red leather, featuring a rare wooden dashboard and door panels—a combination from the Porsche Exclusive programme that is rarely seen. The car is also equipped with nearly every option available at the time, including an exclusive sound system and a tilt/slide sunroof. Under the rear decklid lies the proven 3.6-litre flat-six engine, producing 272 hp. Paired with the Tiptronic automatic transmission, it offers a smooth, comfortable drive—even on long journeys—without sacrificing character. By now, the 993 has become a true icon. Its design is timeless, the build quality impressive, and the driving experience remains as pure as it gets. This example, with its distinctive specification and well-preserved condition, is not only a joy to drive but also a serious candidate for anyone looking for a future-proof classic.
