SH ID 23-0711016 FEATURED BY SPEEDHOLICS Sold United Kingdom Dealer SEARCH OTHER CARS COMMENT ON FACEBOOK This Car Contact the Dealer I am Interested Legal & Copyright Engine Number 8D0106085G Transmission Automatic Body Colour Solent Blue Description A rare pre-Celebration model, bought new by our vendor's father, showing a shade over 32,000 miles today and the last of the "Big Cat" grand tourers. The Jaguar XJ-S is perhaps the only motorcar that overcame a hostile launch, multiple recessions, the industrial issues of the period and, incredibly for a single model, helped secure the future of another car manufacturer. Rarely acknowledged, it was the XJ-S that saved Aston Martin, providing, as it did, the basis for Aston’s DB7, the success of which guaranteed the marque’s future. Jaguar’s long awaited 1989 launch of the full convertible finally met the demand for British top-down luxury motoring, and at a reasonable price. The perfect car for the successful gentleman of a certain age wanting a comfortable convertible, the Jaguar cut an elegant dash. A faintly re-styled model, now branded as the XJS, was launched in 1991, sporting 'smoked' wrap-around rear lights and an improved interior with more conventional instrument displays. Two engines were made available, the 6.0-litre V12 and the AJ6-derived 4.0-litre. From 1993, the XJS was produced with colour-coded bumpers and these earlier cars are often mistaken for the 'Celebration' model launched in 1995. The earlier, pre-1995, cars are easy to identify by their leather-trimmed gear selector capped at each end in chrome. Our vendor’s late father firmly believed that a “Big Cat” should be powered by a V12, as his previous E-Type had been, and specified this car with the 6.0-litre V12 when ordering it in the Surrey showrooms of Guy Salmon Jaguar in June 1993 at a cost of £51,603, as confirmed by the accompanying order form and Bill of Sale. The car was delivered a few months later on 25th August 1993, finished in Solent Blue with magnolia leather and a blue mohair hood. Interestingly, this XJS is perhaps one of the last to have been specified with lattice alloy wheels from new. The car was enjoyed by our vendor’s father until his sad passing in 2006, whereupon it was registered in our vendor’s name on 17th June 2006. Presented to auction with a shade over 32,000 miles at the time of cataloguing, the toolkit is present whilst the detailed history file boasts the original order form, Bill of Sale, previous MOTs, receipts, tax discs and brochures. The Jaguar-embossed green wallet includes the service book, handbooks and radio code booklet. The advisory free MOT is valid until 16th October 2023 and the accompanying V5C confirms our vendor as the second registered keeper. Like all low slung cars, the XJS has inevitably collected a few stone chips along the way, as seen in the photographs, but these are not hard to rectify. The 'Big Cat' had became an endangered species by the mid-1990s and the XJS was the last convertible V12 offered by Jaguar. Keenly estimated, we can think of no other comparable car with this much history that offers a modern driving experience with coachwork penned in the early 1970s and a quintessentially British interior. For those entering the classic car market for the first time, this rare motorcar ticks virtually every box whilst also presenting the seasoned enthusiast with a luxurious and powerful alternative to an older British classic. SH ID 24-0205001 FEATURED BY SPEEDHOLICS Sold United Kingdom Dealer SEARCH OTHER CARS COMMENT ON FACEBOOK This Car Contact the Dealer I am Interested Legal & Copyright Left-hand drive Delivered new to the French Aston Martin importer, Garage Mirabeau in Paris Specified new with air-conditioning and chrome wheels Retaining its original dark blue interior and currently finished in Silver Birch, the James Bond colours Description Supplied new via Societe Nouvelle du Garage Mirabeau in Paris, this left-hand-drive Aston Martin DB5 remained in France until being exported the UK in 2015, and comes with a wealth of paperwork that shows how well maintained it has been throughout its life. Chassis number 1995/L was built at the Newport Pagnell factory on 4 March 1965 and fitted with engine number 400/1984. It was originally finished in Sierra Blue with Dark Blue interior and was specified with Armstrong Selectaride dampers, chrome wire wheels and Normalair air-conditioning. The latter was a first on an Aston Martin when offered on the DB5, and added £320 to the list price. Its first owner is named on the factory service record as being Henri Boris, who lived on Boulevard Lannes in the western fringes of Paris. The car returned to the factory on 18 July 1967 for a full service, by which time it had covered just under 15,000 kilometres. In 1973, the DB5 was sold – again via Garage Mirabeau – to a Monsieur Trepsat, who lived in Lyons. He kept it for 10 years before selling it in 1983 to Bernard Faure, and it passed in short order to Patrick Sersoub, who would hold on to it for the next 30 years. The history file is full of correspondence relating to his time with the Aston Martin, with invoices from suppliers such as Aston Service Dorset and advice on an engine rebuild during the 1990s from marque specialist Andy Chapman. When Sersoub finally parted with the car, it was brought to the UK and the front suspension and brakes were overhauled, with Polybushes being fitted. Now presented in the iconic colour of Silver Birch but with the trim still in the original Dark Blue, this Aston Martin DB5 is being offered for sale having never been fully restored but always meticulously maintained by its long term owners. It comes with an extensive history file that includes photographs of the recent work that’s been carried out, and it’s an extremely usable example of this legendary British grand tourer. MODEL HISTORY The Aston Martin DB5 is one of the most instantly recognisable cars ever built thanks to its iconic role in the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger, but backing up that film-star charisma is an enduring blend of Italian styling and British engineering. When the DB4 had been launched in 1958, it marked the beginning of a new era thanks to a body shape that had been designed by Touring of Milan – from which Aston Martin also licensed the Superleggera method of lightweight construction. Touring’s crisp, clean shape was fitted around a new six-cylinder engine that had been designed by Tadek Marek. Regularly updated throughout its production run, the DB4 was eventually replaced by the DB5 at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show. For this latest model, the engine was bored-out from 3670cc to 3995cc, and very early in production a five-speed gearbox replaced the old four-speeder – there was also the option of a three-speed Borg Warner automatic. On the standard triple SU carburettors, power output from the twin-cam straight-six was 282bhp, with the Vantage model kicking out 314bhp on triple Webers. Braking was via servo-assisted Girling discs all round, rather than the Dunlop system that the standard DB4 had used. When The Motor tested a DB5, it recorded a top speed of 145mph, making it one of the fastest production cars of its time. The magazine recorded a 0-60mph time of 7.1 seconds and noted that it ‘cruises to 100mph with absurd ease and quietness [and] can be guided through fast corners with great accuracy’. In 1965, this now-legendary model was replaced by the extended-wheelbase DB6 after just over 1000 had been built. Nearly 60 years later, it remains one of the most desirable and coveted cars ever made. Riding on the heels of the electrifying 512M, the all new 550 Maranello would triumphantly carry the torch forward for V12 powered Ferrari cars. Exuding the brand’s deep and rich history, the 550 Maranello was proudly named after Ferrari’s home, the beautiful city of Maranello, Italy. Ferrari entrusted design to Pininfarina, with the project being led by Lorenzo Ramaciotti, the exterior featured a sleek and timeless design emphasized by clean flowing lines and muscular proportions akin to a classic GT car, while the interior exuded a stunning leather clad center console encapsulating both driver and passenger. Excellence was not skin deep, however. Nestled in the tubular steel space frame, the 550 Maranello boasted the best Ferrari had to offer in the form of the F133A, a front-mounted 5.5-liter V12 engine producing 478 horsepower and 419 lb-ft of torque, all being sent to the rear wheels through an engaging 6-speed manual transmission. The 550 Maranello boasted marvelous handling and dynamics, thanks to its balanced weight distribution and highly-tuned double wishbone suspension, providing occupants with a comfortable and luxurious interior with leather upholstery and modern amenities, placing it firmly as the class leader for long-distance driving and grand touring. During its production run from 1996 to 2001, an estimated 3,000 examples left the Maranello based manufacturing facilities. Over its 5 year lifespan, the 550 Maranello consistently received positive reviews from critics and enthusiasts, being widely regarded as a highly capable and desirable grand tourer, blending performance, style, and comfort in an exceptional Italian package. The Cultivated Collector’s 1999 Ferrari 550 Maranello, Chassis 14824, is a stunning example of the breed - finished in the beautiful color of Grigio Ingrid, which carries very soft gold and pink hues under certain lighting conditions, is complemented by the interior which is wrapped in a rich Rosso leather with cream accents and trim lines. Having covered a mere 14,900 miles from new, 14824 benefits greatly from loving previous ownership seeing consistent servicing. LIVE AUCTION: Saturday 25th February | 12.00am GMT Model FIA GTV6 GROUP A CHASSIS ``LR8513” Registration Number N/A Chassis Number LR8513 Transmission Manual Description In 1981, Alfa decided to join the join the growing number of National and International Touring Car Championship with its all-new V6 engine in the old Alfetta GTV. Alfa’s racing department, Auto Delta, contracted the tuning firms, Imberti from Italy and Luigi Racing from Belgium, and both companies worked on designing and creating the special parts that would allow the cars to conform to the current 'Group A' regulations. Auto Delta took care of the homologation process, photography and paperwork. Luigi Racing At the start of the 1982, both tuners prepared 6 cars in total for Division 2 (cars up to 2500cc) and they were successful from the start with Luigi Racing claiming the title three years in a row ('82-84) with their yellow GTV6 and Imberti taking the spoils in 1985 in their distinctively liveried Jolly Club-sponsored car. During this four-year period, there were times when the Alfas were so dominant that they were even stronger than the considerably faster Division 1 cars from BMW (635csi), Jaguar (XJ-S), Volvo (240 Turbo) and Rover (SD1). Luigi Racing used a numbering system for their cars indicated by a plate in the engine bay, stamped LR****, where the first two numbers indicated the year of build i.e. 82=1982 and the second two indicating the build number of the car in the total series i.e. 18= 18th Group A GTV6 built. We are informed there were no more than 20 or so Group A cars built from '82-85 with some significant cars that can be identified, including LR8205 as Andy Rouse's BTCC 1983 championship-winning car, LR8410 became Colin Bonds Australian Touring car in '85 and LR8512 being Ron Simmonds famous car in the late 90s having competed in the ETCC in '84 and '85 and then being used by Ron in the Alfa Challenge functioning partly as a test mule for Ron’s Alfa handling kits. Chassis ‘LR8513’ Utilising an Alfa 75-based floorpan and a fresh, unstamped factory shell, the car was built for the 1985 season using the latest Group A parts and 'know how'. It ran during '85 in Boule D’Or/ Epson colours and the following year entered the 1986 Spa 24hrs in green Video Point livery. The car was purchased by a Mr Izarelli ,still in green, subsequently being sold to a Mr Vertongen. Main Identifiers are: Chassis plate LR8513 on RHS engine bay shock turret, brake and clutch pedal box, strengthening plates on shock turrets, offset gear-lever, air-jacks, twin AP CP2561 front calipers mounted on special cast uprights, Aluminium lower-wishbones and torsion-bar beam, large anti-roll bar and torsion bars, vented rear discs with AP CP2361 calipers, gearbox oil cooler, long-distance fuel tank, and centre-lock hubs with OZ rims (as used by Luigi in later seasons). This car has always been Identified as the '85 Spa car No 43 Driven by: Bernard de Dryver (B)/François-Xavier Boucher (B)/Loudwig Boucher (B) due to the rear-view mirror location, single central wiper and the air-jack input position on the rear. Previous owners had no reason to doubt this and also the logical conclusion was that this was François-Xavier Boucher’s car for the whole '85 season. ‘LR8513’ Under current ownership: The car's current owner had been trying to find a GTV6 to race in Historic Touring Cars and had been in discussions with Alfa guru, Chris Snowdon. Chris had known about LR8513 for years and called Mr Vertonger (who was an Alfa racing mechanic back in the day and had a collection of Alfas - the Luigi car being the hidden gem) to broker a deal. Chris drove his empty trailer to Belgium in 2016 to pick up a very dejected looking Alfa along with a plethora of original, but still brand new, Alfa Romeo parts and panels, which were all used to painstakingly rebuild the Alfa over a two year period, thereby preserving LR8513 for the next chapters of its life. The car was built to compete in Motor Racing Legends Historic Touring Car series and run by Chris Snowdon Racing where it has enjoyed many class victories and performed with great reliability. This car was represented by Issimi previously while residing in Monaco, but the most recent owner has purchased it and shipped it stateside, with it now residing in Manhattan, New York. Benefitting from a service booklet full of stamps from both main dealers and marque specialists, this car has been quite well kept over the years and benefits from a recent major service. Unlike Ferraris of today, in the era of the 550 Maranello, there weren’t many options available on the car’s exterior in the way of extra carbon fiber or deviating colors. This specification is very nice and subdued- as a 550 Maranello, it should be in its dark gray finish with the standard 5-spoke wheels, black brake calipers, and no fender shields up front. Moving inside, black leather covers both front seats, the center console, the dashboard, and the steering wheel- and on this car, it is all in fantastic condition. What makes the Maranello so sought after is that it is truly the last car to come out of the Ferrari factory with a “vintage” feel to it- no big screens, a bevy of analog gauges, and the legendary gated manual shifter right in the center of the vehicle. The interior of this car has been kept to a very high standard over the years and shows minimal wear on the seats, and the leather on both the steering wheel and dashboard is free of any bubbling or pulling. Also worth noting, this example includes a full set of Schedoni fitted luggage in black leather that fits perfectly in the trunk. Powering the 550 Maranello is a 5.5 liter V12 with dual overhead cams and 4-valves per cylinder rated at 478 horsepower and 419 lb-ft of torque. This engine is known to be one of the more dependable engines to come out of Ferrari and does not require engine-out servicing like the mid-engine cars of the same time period. That being said, this car was treated to a full cambelt service before leaving Italy in April 2022 which also included new spark plugs, timing belt bearings and tensioners and new rear shock absorbers. In all 550s, the only available gearbox is a 6-speed manual transaxle that sends power to the rear wheels. Starting with the 575M in 2002, the F1 gearbox became the almost universal choice for front-engine V12 Ferraris, making the 550 truly the end of the classic era of Ferrari. Now that the 550 Maranello is more than 25 years old, it can easily be imported from Europe and registered in most states. For advice on registration, please talk to an Issimi sales representative who will be able to guide you through the proces. This 550 Maranello is a beautiful example of one of Ferrari’s greatest front engine-V12 grand touring cars and is bound to only become more desirable as the years go along. The following year, a more sportive and powerful successor to the Rivolta, the Grifo, was introduced, and and were delivered to customers from 1965 on. Giorgetto Giugiaro from Bertone, who later also designed the Maserati Ghibli and the BMW M1, was responsible for the impressive appearance with its deep and wide design. The chassis was developed by Giotto Bizzarrini, who was also the designer of the Ferrari 250 GTO. Combined with the robust and powerful Chevrolet engine, there was no doubt that this car could compete with some of the best sports cars in the world. Those who witnessed the debut of Lamborghini’s stunning Miura in 1966 had been anxiously awaiting Ferrari’s response, and the front-engined Daytona, while extremely high performance, could not match the visual or experiential impact of the Miura and later the Countach. The Boxer was Ferrari’s first mid-engined twelve-cylinder road car and was powered by a horizontally-opposed longitudinally-mounted engine sitting atop the transaxle. Clothed in suitably rakish bodywork by Pininfarina, the Boxer was a stunner. The 512 BBi represents the ultimate development of the Boxer line and was distinguished from the 512 BB and 365 models that preceded it by the introduction of fuel injection. Today, the Boxer remains a dramatic and exciting car that offers a tremendous, visceral experience, especially compared to the much more subdued Testarossa which replaced it. This particular example is a beautifully-preserved five-owner car that was imported to the United States new. Its original owner purchased the car through Algar Ferrari and picked it up from the factory in December of 1983, and drove the car around in Europe before importing it. As the 512 was never officially imported to the United States, it was federalized by Amerispec, with the EPA release completed in April of 1984. Federalized as a 49-state car, this 512BBi did not receive California BAR certification during this process. Though the car was officially federalized, it escaped the unsightly additions of side reflectors and impact bumpers that saddled so many gray market cars at the time. The car comes with its original invoice from the factory, which notes that this example was finished in red, but without black Boxer trim, over a black leather interior. There are also photographs of the car at the factory when it was delivered new in December 1983. The first owner kept the car until August of 1989 when its second owner acquired it. He owned the car until December 2005, when its third owner purchased it with 15,539 kilometers. The car has regularly received major services (including belts) in February 2005, May 2007, October 2015, and August 2021. The most recent service also included 12 new injectors, rebuilt CIS fuel distributors and warmup regulators, and new fuel pumps, which, along with the major service, totaled more than $26,500. Overall, this 512BBi presents as a well-preserved unrestored car that is not without flaws but still shows nicely throughout. The body panels are straight, fit, and operate well, while the paint appears to be largely original, with a few small marks that have been touched up over the years. The wheels are in very good shape, as are the spinners, and the tires are correct Michelin TRXs in a unique 240/55 VR415 size. Exterior trim is very nice throughout, as are the lights and glazing. The car has correct Cibié flat front headlamps and Cibié “airport” fog lamps. The overall impression of the car is of an honest, well-cared for low, mileage car that is aging gracefully. The interior also appears to be substantially original, the seats have a nice, even patina with light wear on the driver’s seat back piping, and the various leather-trimmed items, such as the headliner and center console, are all in very good condition. The dashboard benefits from a recent re-covering in original specification black leather and was completed to a very high level, but does not look out of place with the original leather elsewhere in the cabin. The original Ferrari-branded Pioneer head unit, speakers, and equalizer are still in place, and the carpet remains in good condition. The front compartment is also in very nice shape, with the spare cover present, as is the strap for the tool roll, which is affixed, complete, and in excellent shape. The inner fenders are in very nice original condition and show no signs of damage. Under the rear bonnet, the engine compartment is also very clean, in keeping with a well-cared-for largely unrestored car, but does benefit from refinished intake runners and manifolds, and the foam on the underside of the engine lid has also been replaced. This is an outstanding opportunity to acquire a superb late-production example of one of Ferrari’s most important models. It is worth noting that BBi is noticeably faster than the Testarossa that replaced it, in addition to being arguably better looking and rarer. One thing that’s for sure is that the driving experience is wildly different from a Testarossa. While the Testarossa is civilized and nearly easy to drive, being most in its element as a comfortable long-distance tourer, the Boxer has an intense and hard edge that makes it much closer to the beastly character of a Countach or Miura. As a flagship Ferrari, it stands alone in that respect, and it demands a level of finesse from the driver that gives it a lot of appeal for the experienced driver. This particular car has had just four owners, known history from new, and was federalized in an unobtrusive manner. Furthermore, it is very complete, beautifully preserved, well-documented, and has been fastidiously maintained, making this the ideal Boxer to get in and enjoy one of the greatest mid-engine 12-cylinder Ferrari driving experiences.
