SH ID 23-1121031 FEATURED BY SPEEDHOLICS In Stock United Kingdom Dealer SEARCH OTHER CARS COMMENT ON FACEBOOK This Car Contact the Dealer I am Interested Legal & Copyright Transmission Manual Drive Side RHD Description At its reveal at the Geneva Motorshow in 1961, the Jaguar E-Type caused quite a stir, a beautiful 150mph car available at half the price of an Aston Martin. Manufactured by Jaguar between 1961 and 1975, a combination of good looks, high performance, and competitive pricing ensured the car was an instant legend. In period, a Ferrari cost three times more and supplied less horsepower which established the E-Type as an icon not just of 1960s motoring but of British culture. The model became a great success for Jaguar; at its release Enzo Ferrari called it "The most beautiful car ever made". The model was made in three distinct versions which are now generally referred to as "Series 1", "Series 2" and "Series 3". A transitional series between Series 1 and Series 2 is known, unofficially, as "Series 1½". For collectors today, the earlier cars are the most desirable. As successful as the E-Type was with consumers, it was perhaps even more significant when it arrived at the track. The race car’s aluminium bodywork, independent suspension and disc brakes were evocative of the D-Type before it and were still incredibly advanced at the time. This made the E-Type a very well performing car, and it underwent several racing guises. The E-Type racing legacy began with the Low Drag Coupe and was followed by twelve, now eighteen, factory lightweights. Unfortunately, Jaguar did not fully commit to any 1960s racing endeavours, but thanks to third party efforts both in period and more recently, the E-type has a continued legacy not only as a stylistic and cultural icon, but also as a staple model in any historic racing paddock. This E-type was converted through the winter of 2008/9 to the semi-lightweight form it presents in today. Restored from the ground up, this example now benefits from elegant Opalescent Dark Blue coachwork over an oxblood red leather interior. With a power plant built by renowned marque specialists, Sigma Engineering, this semi-lightweight E-type benefits from a narrow angle head on an iron block, complete with triple 48 Weber carburettors and a wet sump. Recently converted to full race specification, although retaining all parts needed to be road legal, this E-type has been used most recently as an introduction to historic motorsport. Sold twice by DK Engineering before, this example has competed in two seasons of Equipe Libre, where the car made regular appearances near the top of the timesheets and on the podium. Run by the specialists Pursuit Racing, this example has had over £200,000 spent on it since 2020, including tireless and comprehensive maintenance as well as a full gearbox and differential rebuild. The engine setup affords the car a healthy 275bhp at the wheels, or circa 325-335bhp at the flywheel. Demonstrating a near peak in torque quite low down, this E-Type offers a linear torque delivery after 2000rpm, offering great usability and drivability. The build specification includes: Full ‘semi-lightweight’ specification with thin aluminium lightweight bonnet, doors, bootlid and hardtop Full race engine by Sigma Engineering Recently rebuilt differential New oil cooler Pursuit race suspension set up Aeroquip fuel lines Running legal MSD Tillet race seat Straight through and silenced options New quick-release steering wheel and boss Repainted for 2023 Accompanied by an extensive spares package including spare wheels, this E-type provides the opportunity to own a race proven semi-lightweight conversion, which also could easily be reverted to an enjoyable and presentable road car. The fastest four-seater in the world when the car first rolled off the assembly line. The car was rarely delivered as a coupe anyway, which now makes this a real collector’s item. Anyway, enough about investment and performance, let’s talk about what lasting impression this car leaves behind. After all, a Jaguar driver also knows that you have to drive this car with respect. That means spinning the sports hangover of yesteryear quietly, not roaring. It is sometimes said in the car world, the car looks like its owner. However, this tomcat also knows how to take the owner with her grandeur. Indeed, when you get in, you immediately get the feeling that you know about opera, wine, politics and poetry. Ours? SH ID 23-1211005 FEATURED BY SPEEDHOLICS In Stock France Dealer SEARCH OTHER CARS COMMENT ON FACEBOOK This Car Contact the Dealer I am Interested Legal & Copyright Description The Alfa Romeo Montreal was introduced as a concept car in 1967 at Expo 67, held in Montreal, Canada. Originally, the concept cars were displayed without any model name, but the public took to calling it The Montreal. It was a 2+2 coupe using the 1.6-litre engine of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti and the short wheelbase chassis of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT, with a body designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone. One of the two concept cars built for Expo 67 is displayed in the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, while the other is in museum storage. The first production car, Tipo 105.64, was shown at the 1970 Geneva Motor Show and was quite different from the original, using a 2593 cc 90° dry-sump lubricated, cross-plane V8 engine with a bore of 80.0 mm and a stroke of only 64.5 mm and using Spica pump that produced around 200 PS (147 kW; 197 hp), coupled to a five-speed ZF gearbox and a limited-slip differential. This engine was derived from the 2-litre V8 used in the 33 Stradale and in the Tipo 33 sports prototype racer. The chassis and running gear of the production Montreal were taken from the Giulia GTV coupé and comprised double wishbone suspension with coil springs and dampers at the front and a axle with LSD at the rear. Since the concept car was already unofficially known as The Montreal, Alfa Romeo kept the model name in production. Stylistically, the most eye catching feature is the car's front end with four headlamps partly covered by unusual "grilles", that retract when the lights are switched on. Another stylistic element is the NACA duct on the bonnet. The duct is actually blocked off since its purpose is not to draw air into the engine, but to optically hide the power bulge. The slats behind the doors contain the cabin vents, but apart from that only serve cosmetic purposes. Paolo Martin is credited for the prototype instrument cluster. Production was split between the Alfa Romeo plant in Arese and Carrozzeria Bertone's plants in Caselle and Grugliasco outside Turin.Alfa Romeo produced the chassis and engine and mechanicals and sent the chassis to Caselle where Bertone fitted the body. After body fitment, the car was sent to Grugliasco to be degreased, partly zinc coated, manually spray painted and have the interior fitted. Finally, the car was returned to Arese to have the engine and mechanicals installed. It is worth noting that because of this production method, there is not necessarily a correspondance between chassis number, engine number and production date. Total production was around 3,900. A Montreal can be seen in the 1974 movie The Marseille contract where Michael Caine drives a metallic dark brown example. A careful observer can find a red Montreal in the beginning of the James Cameron movie True Lies immediately prior to the lead character saying "Here is my invitation." A Montreal is also featured in the 2017 movie Atomic Blonde. According to Alfa Romeo Storico, our car, AR 1428308, left the Factory in September 1974, with one of the best combo, Blu Francia body with blu interior. The car spent all its life in Iran, with only two owners and due to the nice and dry Iranian climate, the car never suffered from any corrosion, or any damage. The car was found in lovely unrestored condition and showing just over 58.000 km on the tachy, all the panels are completely original and correctly aligned, only the body was re-painted in the late 90’s in Metallic Grey. The bodywork is totaly rust free, the car has always been well preserved. All the rare Montreal specific units, chrome, badges and stainless steel finishers are original, and the car will come with all its original Alfa Romeo documents, Uso e manutenzione, Alfa Romeo folder… Its original factory 00564*02243 engine with Spica pump and dual ignition is still in place, waiting to shout again. The car is currently under a complete body and mechanical restoration to recover its original shine and beautiful Blu Francia body color. SH ID 23-1211001 FEATURED BY SPEEDHOLICS Sold United Kingdom Dealer SEARCH OTHER CARS COMMENT ON FACEBOOK This Car Contact the Dealer I am Interested Legal & Copyright One of only five RHD Series II cars built Class winner at 2019 Chantilly Arts et Elegance Huge history file and discreetly signed by Piero Rivolta and Giotto Bizzarrini Description To call the restoration of this 1972 Iso Grifo a labour of love would be an understatement. It was rebuilt with a passionate attention to detail and it’s no surprise that it subsequently won its class at one of the most prestigious European concours of all. The last of only five right-hand-drive Series 2 Grifos that were fitted with the small-block 5.7-litre Chevrolet V8 engine, it came equipped with power-steering and air-conditioning. The first owner listed in the UK logbook is Robert Jull, who told the current owner that he found the Grifo too powerful for him, so he sold it to a London nightclub owner. It was later acquired by Rupert Beckwith-Smith and then DE Murray – owner of Rangers football club. After passing through two more owners, the car was bought at auction by an enthusiast who had been hooked on Grifos since the age of 10, when he saw a Series 2 in The Observer’s Book of Automobiles. The car was in his ideal specification but he decided to remove the engine so that he could tidy up the engine bay. That small act turned into a 19-year full restoration… After not being happy with an early respray in dark blue, he delved a little deeper into the bodywork before deciding to hand it over to a restoration specialist. The first step was to chemically dip the bare shell so that it could be properly assessed. Of the body panels, only the bonnet, roof and boot lid were retained – everything else was replaced. Along the way, some clever improvements were made. The front inner wings can be unbolted to allow access to the bulkhead and headlight area, drain tubes run from the grilles in front of the rear window to the wheelarch to allow water to escape, and the front chassis rails were moved slightly outwards to enable the exhaust to pass inside them. While Iso used to simply cut out a box section to fit the wider TH400 automatic transmission, on this car a new box section was fabricated in order to be safer and stronger than the factory method. The work to the chassis and body took six and a half years and four times the original budget, and in the meantime the owner was sourcing parts from around the world. Reassembling the car then took a further three and a half years. The installation of the engine-bay ancillaries was improved with a 170-amp alternator, modern air-conditioning, a new power-steering pump that did away with the separate reservoir on the wing, and a new high-flow water pump. The engine, radiator, gearbox, differential, brakes and suspension were all rebuilt, Dynamat insulation was used throughout and a completely new wiring loom fitted. The magnesium wheels were stripped and X-rayed before being ‘chromated’ to seal them and then hand-finished. Everywhere you look, there’s impressive attention to detail. A new, tidier fusebox was hidden inside the glovebox, but to retain the original look a stainless-steel replica fusebox was mounted in the correct place in the engine bay. The sound system has also been uprated with an amplifier under one seat and a subwoofer under the other. Having originally been red, the Grifo was resprayed in a different shade of the same colour while Fred Moss owned it. It was then briefly blue during the restoration process, before the owner settled on the very attractive ‘Varedo Bronze’ – a colour that perfectly shows off the Grifo’s elegant, muscular lines. The interior, meanwhile, was retrimmed in Camel Birch and features a special touch. In 2013, the owner went to Italy for an Iso event and asked marque owner Piero Rivolta and engineer Giotto Bizzarrini to sign two pieces of leather. These were then mounted on panels behind the seats, beneath plastic covers and away from damaging sunlight. The restoration was finished in 2019, just in time for the Grifo to be shown at the prestigious Chantilly Arts et Elegance event near Paris. All the hard work paid off when it won its class, which was judged by Andrea Zagato – the son-in-law of Piero Rivolta. The owner later drove the car across Europe to the old factory in Varedo, near Milan; it was apparently the first Iso to go into the factory since it had closed its doors in 1974. The Grifo was also displayed at the Italian National Automobile Museum in Turin, as part of an Iso commemorative exhibition. Now being offered for sale for the first time in more than 20 years at The Classic Motor Hub, this cherished Iso Grifo remains in immaculate concours-ready condition. There are two history files full of research, invoices and receipts, plus numerous photographs. Already a rare car, it boasts some well-considered personal touches that make it a unique example of this extremely attractive Italian-American grand tourer. MODEL HISTORY When it was introduced in 1965, the Iso Grifo featured input from some of the most famous names in motoring. The stylish bodywork was penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone, while the engineering side of things was entrusted to Giotto Bizzarrini – the man who had done much of the work developing the 250 GTO while he was at Ferrari. The basic recipe was to blend Italian styling and engineering with a small-block Chevrolet V8 engine. This robust powerplant was offered in two states of tune, the hottest of which produced 365bhp – enough to make the Grifo a rival to the refined GTs being produced by Ferrari and Maserati. That was an impressive boast for a company that had started out in the 1950s making motorcycle-engined microcars. The Series 2 model followed in 1970 and featured subtly revised styling, the most obvious change being to the front end, where the headlights were hidden under neat covers. The most extreme Grifo variants gained Chevrolet’s 7-litre or 7.4-litre engines, which boosted power to well over 400bhp. In 1972, late in the model’s production life, the IR-8 model was introduced with Ford V8 engines. When Car and Driver tested an early Grifo, it recorded a 0-60mph time of seven seconds. ‘As a comfortable Grand Touring machine,’ it stated, ‘the Iso is an unqualified success.’ British magazine Autocar reached a maximum speed of 161mph, making the Grifo the fastest car it had tested to that point. Only 413 Grifos of all types were built before Iso car production came to an end in December 1974, and of those only 31 were exported new to the UK. Offering the very best money could buy in terms of luxury and performance, its no surprise that these cars often found their way into the garages of heads of state, barons of industry, and other well-to-do individuals. Succeeding the 410 Superamerica, the 400 Superamerica offered numerous improvements over its predecessor. While the engine decreased in displacement from 5.0-litres to 4.0-litres, several other new features countered this. The 5.0-litre V-12 was a “long-block” Lampredi-designed unit, while the revised smaller engine was based on the Colombo single overhead-camshaft powertrain that was first utilised in the 250 Europa GT. To increase the capacity from 3.0-litres, the bore was enlarged to 77 millimetres and the stroke was lengthened to 71 millimeters, providing a total capacity of 3,967 cubic centimetres. Furthermore, a twin-coil and distributor ignition system was utilised, along with triple-Weber carburetors, granting the engine an improved 340 horsepower, but also an incredible 400 Nm (295 ft.lb) from 2.000 rpm and a maximum torque 450 Nm (331 ft.lb) at 6.000 rpm. As a result, these cars are considered today among the best driving of 1960s Ferraris. Boasting 25 per cent greater engine capacity than a 250 GT Berlinetta or California Spider, the 400 Superamerica produces far more horsepower and torque than either of its forebears. The 400 Superamerica was also fitted with an overdrive as standard—while no overdrive was available for the 250 GT models apart from the GTE—making it far more comfortable to drive over long distances. Finally, it is important to remember that the 400 Superamerica’s chassis and powertrain was so great that it provided the basis for the 330 LMB and 330 TRi racing cars, of which the 330 TRi LM won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1962. The 400 Superamerica production run can be divided into two groups, based on either long- or short-wheelbase chassis. The first batch of cars produced—of which includes the car on offer here, chassis 1945 SA—boasted a 2,420 millimetre chassis, while the second batch boasts the longer 2,600 millimetre chassis. Of the short-wheelbase cars, just 25 examples were produced, with only seven bodied as cabriolets. Chassis number 1945 SA was built in mid-1960 as the third of those seven short-wheelbase cabriolets, and this example was built to left-hand-drive configuration with open headlamps. It was finished in a beautiful, albeit unusual, colour combination of Verde Bottiglia (MM 16364) over Rosso (VM 3171). It was fitted since new with a set of three Weber 46 DCF, like on a 250 SWB “Sefac Hot Rod”, and a pair of Bosch ignition distributors. The coachwork was completed by Pinin Farina in July of 1960 and was sold new to Helmut Horton, a German entrepreneur based in Croglio, Switzerland. In January of the following year, the car was registered in Milan under Horten Italiana S.r.l, and it remained in Italy for the following three years under Horton’s ownership. The Superamerica then passed to a Mr. Warzits in Germany sometime thereafter and was believed to have been exported to the United States for a brief period. However, by 1985, the car had returned to Europe and was then painted white. At this time, it was acquired by Bernard Pfister of Geneva, Switzerland. Pfister repainted the car red in 1989 and it remained in Switzerland with him for the next few years and was displayed at Ferrari Suisse SA in Nyon. In June of 1997, 1945 SA was listed for sale in Marseille, France and was purchased one month later by Scott Rosen of Bedford Hills, New York. Subsequently exported to the US, the car remained in his ownership for two years before being purchased by the late noted sports car enthusiast Oscar Davis of Elizabeth, New Jersey. One year later, Davis sold the Superamerica to a Florida-based collector, yet the car would stay in northern New Jersey for the time being, as it was entrusted to Classic Coach for a full restoration. Founded in 1972 and well known and regarded in Ferrari circles in the US, Classic Coach was Ferrari’s first authorised bodywork repair facility in the US. Their owners would later open two authorised Ferrari dealerships in the US: Ferrari of Central Florida and Ferrari of Tampa Bay. It was decided that chassis 1945 SA would be returned to its original colour combination of Verde Bottiglia over Rosso during this complete, frame-off restoration. No cost was spared to restore the Superamerica back to a spectacular standard. Following the completion of the restoration work, the car was shipped to noted Ferrari specialist Greg Jones of Stuart, Florida. Jones was entrusted with further dialing in the car mechanically, ensuring that every facet of the car worked perfectly. Receipts for the work completed by both Classic Coach and Greg Jones remain in the car’s history file. Remaining with that owner until 2015, the car was sold via RM Sotheby’s to its current owner, a Monaco-based enthusiast, who returned the car to Europe to a discerning collector who happen to do business in the past with the first owner. With him, the car has been used and enjoyed as its manufacturer would have intended. Seen occasionally driving around the streets of Monaco, the car has been shown once at Elégance et Automobile à Monte-Carlo in 2019. It has been granted Ferrari Classiche certification, confirming that it retains its original body, chassis, transmission and rear axle and that the original crank case was changed by Ferrari in November of 1963, which still remains fitted to the car today. With its current owner, the car has been very well maintained by Autofficina Omega of Corrado Patella, including further mechanical work to ensure it drives and performs as one would expect. Its most recent service work with them was the fitment of a new clutch in February 2020. The car still presents in excellent condition throughout and would surely be welcome with open arms to any major concours event worldwide. Well maintained and enjoyed with current owner, it could easily be used on the road as a warm-weather weekend driver. Regardless of whether it is to be enjoyed on the open road or the concours lawn, it will certainly be a joy to own and will attract only the most favorable of compliments wherever it goes. SH ID 23-0904008 FEATURED BY SPEEDHOLICS In Stock France Dealer SEARCH OTHER CARS COMMENT ON FACEBOOK This Car Contact the Dealer I am Interested Legal & Copyright A very early example, one of the first 30 cars produced Supplied with original books and tools Engine rebuild by marque expert An exquisite collector’s car European registered Description Alfa Romeo established the “small car, big performance” formula that would characterize the marque’s finest offerings when they introduced the Bertone-styled Giulietta Sprint in 1954. Alfa’s tried-and-true twin-cam inline four-cylinder engine was downsized to 1,290 cc for the 750-series Giulietta, utilizing an alloy cylinder block in the process. The Sprint coupe was joined shortly afterwards by the berlina and spider versions, the latter styled by Pinin Farina and built on a slightly shorter wheelbase. The Giulietta model’s success surprised even Alfa Romeo themselves as production targets were moved upwards. The combination of a rev-happy engine, fine handling, responsive chassis, and excellent brakes made the Giulietta a driver’s car par excellence and explains why these stylish spiders continue to attract discerning enthusiasts. Only 1,203 Giulietta Spider Veloces were produced, and they remain among the most collectable of the model today. THIS MOTORCAR The Giulietta Spider Veloce we are offering here is chassis AR1495/F 01970, a very special example of this legendary model, being one of the first 30 cars produced! Supplied new in the US, 01970 is today finished in red with black leather to the interior as per its original specifications – according to its certificate of origin by Alfa Romeo – the engine was bored and its capacity changed from 1300 to 1400 by marque specialist. The result turned out to be very impressive with a much funnier driving experience and a nimbler behavior in curves. The output is now c. 110 bhp instead of the regular 90 bhp. Overall the car’s condition is very good throughout and needs nothing. Equipped with Nardi steering wheel, bi-metal wheels and Abarth exhaust system, this example would be a perfect entrant for historic rallies and would enhance any Alfa Romeo collection. SH ID 23-1204022 FEATURED BY SPEEDHOLICS Sold United Kingdom Dealer SEARCH OTHER CARS COMMENT ON FACEBOOK This Car Contact the Dealer I am Interested Legal & Copyright Presented in its original colour combination Specified with factory air-conditioning Two owners from new until 2011 Fastidiously maintained in recent years by McGrath Maserati Description This matching-numbers Maserati Sebring was built at the Modena factory on 13 September 1963 and first registered on 23 October, and it has still had only four owners from new. Its original custodian was René Borgerhoff Mulder, who was based in Wassenaar – a small town just north of The Hague in The Netherlands. Borgerhoff Mulder was a wartime pilot who was reputedly a friend of Prince Bernhard, and competed in the Tulip Rally and Monte Carlo Rally on a number of occasions. He would regularly act as co-driver on such events for Hans Maasland, whose family owned the Maserati dealership in Voorburg from where Borgerhoff Mulder bought this Sebring. The documents from Maserati Classiche state that chassis number 01937 was originally finished in Blue Sera with red interior and had the five-speed ZF manual gearbox. It was also specified with the sought-after air-conditioning and Borrani wire wheels. Borgerhoff Mulder kept the Maserati until 1987, when it was sold to a Mr Stradmeier, who was a dentist and also based in Wassenaar. During his ownership, the car was restored by the Maasland dealership – a process that included a bare-metal respray and engine rebuild – and when he passed away it was inherited by his children. It changed hands again in 2011 but still didn’t move far, its next owner being based in Leiden, only a few kilometres up the road from Wassenaar. In 2016, the Sebring was sold to a UK-based enthusiast who had previously owned a number of Maseratis as well as a Ferrari 330 GTC. During his time with the car, it has been maintained regardless of cost by renowned specialist McGrath Maserati. Invoices totalling more than £40,000 from this period include a top-end rebuild of the engine. More recent expenditure includes an overhaul of the fuel system and air-conditioning, plus a new clutch and starter motor. The six-cylinder engine has been converted to run on triple Weber carburettors but the original Lucas fuel-injection system comes with the car should a future owner wish to have it refitted. Presented in its original colour combination, this Maserati Sebring has been fastidiously maintained and is offered for sale at The Classic Motor Hub with a Maserati Classiche Certificate and a copy of the original delivery note, plus a wealth of invoices and receipts. As one of only 348 Series 1 cars, it is a rare and distinctive choice of Italian Grand Tourer. MODEL HISTORY Maserati had achieved great motorsport success during the 1950s, but had built production road cars in only very small numbers until the 1957 introduction of the 3500GT. This stylish new model drew on Maserati’s racing experience but would be produced in far greater quantities than previous road cars. Originally launched as a 2+2 coupé, the 3500GT featured bodywork by Touring that was mounted on a tubular chassis. Beneath the bonnet was a 3485cc straight-six that was closely related to the marque’s competition engines and featured twin overhead camshafts, twin-plug ignition and a trio of twin-choke Webers. Upgrades applied during the model’s production run included a five-speed gearbox in place of the previous four-speeder and all-round disc brakes, while the 3500GTI gained a Lucas fuel-injection system that would also be used on the Sebring. First seen in prototype form at the 1962 Geneva Motor Show, the Sebring was based on the short-wheelbase chassis of the 3500 Vignale Spyder. Suspension was independent at the front via wishbones and coil springs, with a live axle and semi-elliptic leaf springs at the rear. Steering was by recirculating ball, and options included a Borg-Warner automatic gearbox, air-conditioning and a limited-slip differential. At more than £5000 in 1963, the expensive and exclusive Sebring occupied a rarefied spot at the top end of the 1960s GT market, with its few rivals including the Ferrari 330 GT and Aston Martin DB5. Autocar recorded a top speed of almost 140mph when it tested a Sebring and said: ‘Undoubtedly the jewel in this car is its splendid engine, which is virtually beyond criticism.’ A facelifted Series II Sebring was introduced in 1965, when the engine was enlarged to 3.7 litres. A 4-litre variant producing just over 250bhp was also offered, but sales began to fall away after the announcement of the V8-powered Ghibli and production ended in 1968.
