- 1970 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’ Plexiglas
The Ferrari 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’ The Ferrari 365 GTB/4’s dizzying Pininfarina-engineered beauty has been causing knees to weaken and eyes to well for decades. That sleek fastback body epitomises the romance and appeal of the Italian Gran Turismo. The ‘Daytona’ is the kind of classic in which you can turn up anywhere on the planet, be it Monaco or Mumbai, and you’ll draw gawping onlookers by the dozen. It starred in Miami Vice and even Elton John owned one. And in the 1970s that was a big deal. “The ’Daytona’ starred in Miami Vice and even Elton John owned one. And in the 1970s that was a big deal.” The absolute must-have luxury Grand Tourer in the 1960s and ’70s, the 4.4-litre Colombo V12-powered ‘Daytona’ is no shrinking violet when it comes to hiking up its skirt and getting a move on. Just ask the legendary American racing drivers Brock Yates and Dan Gurney, who, in 1971, famously drove a ‘Daytona’ 2,876 miles from New York City to Redondo Beach in California in a record time of 35 hours and 54 minutes. That’s an average speed of 80.8mph! Early examples are characterised by their distinctive Plexiglas noses with faired-in headlights – a slightly purer design, at least for us here at Girardo & Co. HQ. Changes in American homologation rules forced Ferrari to introduce pop-ups on the 365 GTB/4 in 1971. Less than a third of the 1,284 ‘Daytonas’ produced featured the Plexiglas nose and are therefore most desirable to collectors today. Chassis number 13537 If we could hop in a time machine back to 1970 and configure ‘our’ new Ferrari 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’, we highly suspect it would have looked a lot like chassis number 13537, the fabulous example we’re thrilled to be offering. Giuseppe Minganti from Bologna was the man who ordered this car new, paying the Bolognese Ferrari dealer Motor Sas di Carla Allegretti e C a princely 8.4m Italian lire for the pleasure. A European-specification Plexiglas ‘Daytona’, chassis number 13537 was finished in the gorgeous shade of Blu Sera with a black Connolly leather interior. Boxes ticked on the optional-extras form included air-conditioning (a must for the hot Italian summers), a wooden-rimmed steering wheel and red fabric inserts on the dainty bucket seats. As you would expect of somebody who’d just bought a new 12-cylinder Ferrari in 1970, Minganti thoroughly enjoyed driving his ‘Daytona’, clocking up almost 15,000 kilometres in his first year of ownership and having it serviced twice by the Ferrari factory’s Assistenza Clienti department in Modena (the perks of living in Bologna!). He parted with chassis number 13537 in March of 1976, selling to Bellancauto S.p.A., the registered company of the avid Ferrari collector Fabrizio Violati. “If we could hop in a time machine back to 1970 and configure ‘our’ new Ferrari 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’, we highly suspect it would have looked a lot like this car.” Heir to a prominent Italian mineral-water and wine empire, Violati kindled his Ferrari collection in 1965, buying of all models a 250 GTO – unbeknownst to his family, who disapproved of his insatiable obsession with motorsport! Over the decades, he assembled a stunning collection of over 40 significant Prancing Horses (and many more Abarths!), displaying them in the specially-built Maranello Rosso Collection museum in San Marino. This ‘Daytona’ remained in the Maranello Rosso Collection for almost four decades, spending most of that on static public display. Violati sadly passed away in 2010 and in 2014, his beloved Ferraris were sold at auction in California and the United Kingdom. Fittingly, chassis number 13537 was acquired by a UK-based collector with an equally world-class stable of Ferraris – including a 250 GTO. In the years since then, the historic Ferrari specialists at The Light Car Company in Oxfordshire, England, has undertaken sympathetic recommissioning works to the car including replacement of the fuel pumps, re-foaming of the seats, tuning of the carburettors and fitment of new tyres. These works were undertaken with a view to using the car – something that the current owner has, pleasingly, frequently done in the last nine years. Charted over 53 years and in the possession of only three enthusiastic owners, this Ferrari’s story is, of course, exceptional. But chassis 13537’s trump card is undoubtedly its condition. Having never been restored, and as a result of its largely sheltered life in the Maranello Rosso Collection, this ‘Daytona’ is in genuine time-warp condition. As outlined in the extensive inspection report we commissioned to the UK’s foremost Ferrari authority Keith Bluemel, this car retains almost all of its original Blu Sera paintwork, which has, as you’d expect, accrued a perfectly imperfect patina. Similarly, the original black Connolly hide and red fabric optional seat inserts are present inside, pervading the interior with the wonderfully rich and unmistakeable scent of aged leather. The ‘mouse-hair’ dash is from the factory, as are all the glass panels. “It’s hard to describe, but this car feels just ‘right’ from behind the wheel – as though it’s exactly how the factory test-driver signed off on the car after thousands of miles of proving.” Max Girardo It goes without saying that, beneath the surface, chassis 13537 retains its original matching-numbers engine, chassis and gearbox. If it’s good to ogle, this Ferrari is even better to drive. Max goes as far as to say it’s the best-driving ‘Daytona’ he’s ever encountered. “If ever a car gave me that reassuringly familiar ‘old-pair-of-trousers’ feeling, it was this ‘Daytona’,” he explains. “It’s hard to describe, but the car feels just ‘right’ from behind the wheel – as though it’s exactly how the factory test-driver signed off on the car after thousands of miles of proving. Or how it felt as Minganti parted with it after enjoying it so thoroughly. “Nothing feels tight or snaggy – the gearshift, especially, inspires so much confidence and the buttery-smooth 12-cylinder engine has zero fluff at lower revs. It’s true some ‘Daytonas’ can feel heavy and cumbersome. But this one doesn’t. A credit to the three gentlemen who’ve cherished it for the last 53 years and the folks at The Light Car Company who have sympathetically maintained it. It would be criminal if this Ferrari’s next custodian didn’t preserve its originality and enjoy it with the same gusto as his or her predecessors. It really is that good.” Accompanying this Ferrari today is its original black Bologna Italian registration plates, Circolazione card and windscreen disc, and ASI Foglio Complementare. Great ‘Daytonas’ don’t come around too often. And given its provenance and condition, we don’t see why chassis 13537 shouldn’t be considered a reference example of the early ‘Plexiglas’ model. Its new owner is in for a real treat… 1970 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’ Plexiglas Girardo & Co. Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The Honda NSX is regarded as a milestone in Japanese sports car engineering. Introduced in 1990, it was the first to successfully combine true supercar performance with legendary reliability and everyday usability. Its all-aluminum monocoque chassis, high-revving V6 VTEC mid-engine, and precisely tuned suspension – developed with input from Ayrton Senna – made the NSX a serious competitor to European exotics, even earning it the nickname “the Japanese Ferrari” (Ferrari F40). With a total production of only around 18,000 units worldwide, the first generation is now considered one of the most sought-after Japanese sports cars, enjoying steadily growing international collector demand. Due to its comparatively limited production numbers and increasing recognition among enthusiasts, this early model is widely regarded as a highly attractive long-term investment with strong appreciation potential. With a mileage of just 37,426 km, this particular NSX presents itself in exceptionally original, untouched collector’s condition. Originally produced for the North American market—where the model was sold under the Acura brand—it was delivered to Italy before coming to its current owner in Germany around 2010. The accompanying documentation, including the original manuals and service records, provides a fully traceable service and ownership history, underscoring the authenticity and exceptional quality of this remarkable sports car. 1990 Honda NSX Thiesen Hamburg GmbH If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1967 Alfa Romeo Duetto
In 1960 Pininfarina was asked by Alfa Romeo to design a spider based on the Sprint Speciale. They developed a prototype in 1961, of which ultimately went into production in 1966. The popular Giulia Spider, a mainstay of Alfa Romeo, found its replacement with the Duetto Spider. Reliability and performance were strong, with the majority of the new car's mechanical components carried over unaltered from the proven Giulia. The “Duetto” name reflects the car's recurring theme of two – two camshafts, two carburetors, and two seats for the two occupants to sing together while motoring. According to Numerazione Delle Vetture Alfa Romeo 1910-1972, chassis number 10503.661276 originally corresponds to a 1966 Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto, engine series AR 00536.00770-11033. Today, it appears this particularly early Duetto was freshened as needed in years past, driven and enjoyed as intended. The Alfa displays older paint and brightwork, as well as portions of the cabin and auxiliary equipment. Correct Carello headlight covers, steel wheels and hubcaps complement, mounted to older 155R15 Firestone F-560 tires. An honest presentation along with a solid chassis, 661276 offers an excellent foundation for continued enjoyment. Beautifully mellowed cosmetics only enhance the Alfa's original character. The Duetto's cabin is tidy and generally correct with more recent upholstery, black canvas convertible top, lap belts, bespoke black herringbone Coco floor mats, and original Pininfarina radio blank. A fitted boot cover accompanies for open motoring. Recorded mileage reads 40,460. Factory identification plaques and chassis stampings remain fixed the front firewall, one of which reflect the vehicle's German delivery - as well as the Pininfarina body number stamped into the rear trunk floor (151848). The luggage compartment appears preserved with correct rubber mats, jack and matching spare tire assembly. A solid chassis and undercarriage lead to an equally tidy engine compartment. It's believed the 1600cc powerplant currently fitted (AR00536.07726) is original to this chassis and retains proper Bologna Weber 40DCOE27 carburetors and Veloce style manifold. Engine compression reads 140, 150, 140, 150 psi. The ever-iconic Alfa Romeo Duetto of The Graduate makes for the ideal entry into a classic Italian collectible and an all-around stylish and very drivable automobile. - 1996 Ferrari F355
Looking resplendent in Canna di Fucile with Bordeaux interior, this Ferrari F355 has been fastidiously maintained throughout its life, and comes with a history file that features invoices and receipts from some of the most well-known marque specialists in the UK. Supplied new to the UK, it was originally registered on 20 September 1996 and sold to its first owner by Graypaul Motors in Loughborough. It was then serviced and maintained during the early years of its life by Maranello Sales Ltd in Egham, Surrey – the service book notes a cambelt change in September 1999, with the mileage standing at just under 17,000. The F355 was then sold by the same company in September 2002 to a new owner who was based in Gloucestershire. Subsequent stamps in the service book show that it was entrusted to the likes of Talacrest, DK Engineering, Simon Furlonger and Foskers, with regular cambelt changes being noted along the way. They were replaced most recently as part of its annual maintenance in December 2022, with the mileage at 59,117 – it has covered only about 500 miles since. Immediately recognised as being one of the finest driver’s cars of its generation, the Ferrari F355 has always enjoyed a strong following, and over the years it has come to represent a high-water mark in the history of the marque’s mid-engined V8 models. With its free-revving 3.5-litre engine allied to a manual six-speed gearbox – operated via Ferrari’s evocative open gate – this particular example is just as exhilarating to drive as it was almost 30 years ago. It has been used only sparingly in recent years, and is being offered for sale with a complete set of manuals and books – all still presented in their leather wallet – as well as the original factory tool set in its leather case. With its stylish colour combination and extensive service history, this F355 is a superb example of this landmark sports car. 1996 Ferrari F355 The Classic Motor Hub If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1958 Alfa Romeo 1900 Speciale
Introduced at the 1950 Paris Salon in preparation for the 1951 racing season, the Alfa Romeo 1900 was a transformative model that ushered in the modern era of design at the Milan-based concern. Primarily available as a four-door saloon, the 1900 proved most desirable to collectors in coupe form, whether clothed in series coachwork by Touring, or in various boutique and one-off designs. The 1900C performed admirably in the Italian Sports Car Championship series, particularly in the form of the lightweight Zagato-bodied examples, while one-off cars built by Farina, Boano, and Ghia received great acclaim at various auto salons of the era. The featured car showcases an unusually rakish sporting design that is clearly derived from the tradition of the finest coachbuilt 1900 examples. Chassis number 001 is believed to be the first of approximately eight cars that were built during the late 1960s and early 1970s by the carrozzeria Autotecnica del Lario (ATL). Founded circa 1969 by Ercole Zuccoli, ATL was a specialist coachbuilder based in northern Lombardy that created bespoke automobiles to individual customer order. This car was reportedly built to the specifications of an Italian client who desired a unique 1900 that could perform with competition characteristics while being worthy of concours display. A period tubular chassis was equipped with 1900 running gear and powered by a 1,975-cubic-centimeter engine from a 1900 Super, which features dual distributors, twin-plug ignition, and dual Weber carburetors fed by velocity stacks. (Note that, as this motor’s serial number indicates it was completed toward the end of 1957 production, this car is identified and titled as a 1958 model year vehicle.) ATL mounted this fine chassis with delectable coachwork shaped in lightweight aluminum that was reminiscent of several of the 1950s greatest sports racing berlinettas. Features like the long front deck, bulbous rear haunches, and the long fastback are clearly evocative of celebrated models like the Zagato-bodied Aston Martin DB4 GT and the Pininfarina-bodied Maserati A6 GCS berlinetta. The sublime shape was further complemented with delicate styling cues such as the louvered hood and front fenders, and Borrani wire wheels, while the external fuel filler implies the car’s competition mandate. After reportedly completing the build process during the 1970s this Alfa Romeo was enjoyed by the original owner for an unknown period, experiencing relatively little driving use. In 2006 the 1900 Speciale was discovered in Italy by collector Tom Kazamek of Manhattan Beach, California, and after purchasing the car and importing it to the United States he commissioned the respected Steve Tillack of nearby Redondo Beach to perform a significant freshening, as demonstrated by invoices on file. Gradually conducted from November 2006 to August 2016, this work included a rebuild of the gearbox, clutch, brakes, shocks, and carburetors, and the installation of a new fuel pump. Upon completion of the refurbishment, the handsome 1900 Speciale was presented at the 2014 Manhattan Beach Concours d’Elegance, where it won an award for the best original/preserved car. More significant exhibition opportunities followed, including display at the prestigious The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering in August 2016, and at the Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance a year later. In January 2019 the car was acquired by Mr. Ponder, and he quickly submitted it to his most trusted vendors for further refinement, including Red Car Restorations of Rockwall, Texas. In addition to touch-up of the paintwork, the car was fitted with new front and rear glass sections, and the interior received a new dashboard. The carburetors and the steering box were rebuilt, and the wiring was repaired as needed. Tastefully equipped with modern disc brakes and an electric fuel pump, this scintillating 1900 Speciale would make an ideal entrant at vintage driving events and tours, where its unique coachwork would surely draw admiration, and the competition-tuned dual-overhead-cam engine could be enjoyed to its full potential. The exquisite finishing of the thin-gauge aluminum coachwork also makes the car a perfect candidate for further display at major concours d’elegance, where the striking design would surely be the toast of any class dedicated to one-off designs or so-called etceterini. In any event, this rare 1900 Speciale exudes the distinct aura of the great 1950s Italian racing berlinettas, offering a rare acquisition for the collector in search of a car of unique character that is nevertheless based in one of the great marques. 1958 Alfa Romeo 1900 Speciale RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright Introduced at the 1950 Paris Salon in preparation for the 1951 racing season, the Alfa Romeo 1900 was a transformative model that ushered in the modern era of design at the Milan-based concern. - 1962 Aston Martin DB4
This beautifully presented Aston Martin DB4 Series IV was rebuilt to full GT specification by marque specialist Goldsmith & Young, since when it has been maintained regardless of cost. Chassis number DB4/813/R was first registered on 10 February 1962, with the same number that it still wears today – SGR 404. Finished in Black Pearl with red trim, it was sold new to Levey’s Wallpaper Stores Ltd in Newcastle upon Tyne. In February 1964, it was acquired by a new owner who was based in London, and the original log book records its ownership history up to the early 1970s. Its conversion to GT specification was carried out during 2011-12, and involved far more than just upgrading the mechanical components. The car was shortened by five inches to match the dimensions of the GT, and the boot floor was changed to GT spec, with the spare wheel mounted over a 100-litre polished-aluminium fuel tank. The six-cylinder engine was initially bored out to 4.2 litres and fitted with a twin-plug cylinder head. The twin Lucas DMBZ6A distributors were converted to Lumenition electronic ignition with original copper-core HT leads, and triple Weber 45 DCOE carburettors were fitted. A remote oil-filter conversion was added, plus a full-flow oil cooler with braided hoses. More engine work was then carried out by RS Williams in late 2022. The extensive rebuild involved taking the capacity up to 4.7 litres, and a dyno test showed that it was producing 349bhp at 5500rpm and 379lb ft of torque at 4000rpm. It drives through a David Brown four-speed synchromesh gearbox. Considerable thought was given to chassis modifications. Koni SP2 front dampers were fitted, while a telescopic conversion was carried out at the rear. In order to reduce body roll while cornering, the rear roll centre was altered via a lower Watt link centre pivot, and an upgraded anti-roll bar was fitted at the front. Solid steering-rack mounts were also specified. The braking system benefits from Girling four-pot calipers front and rear, and there’s a GT-spec twin master cylinder pedal box, with bias bar. Inside, there are Ridgard RS4 racing seats with Securon four-point harnesses, plus mounting points so that a six-point cage could be installed. A Stack electronic tacho has replaced the original mechanical unit, there’s a mohair headlining, and a battery isolator switch has been added. Now presented in Light Grey with red leather interior, the DB4 has been de-bumpered and the mounting holes deleted. Lightweight polycarbonate rear quarter-windows and rear screen have been installed, although the owner decided to retain framed glass windows for the doors, he specified period correct lightweight polycarbonate rear quarter-windows and screen along with 16in chrome wire wheels to be fitted. Having been used sparingly since its restoration, this Aston Martin DB4 is offered for sale in exceptional condition and with an extensive history file that includes its original build sheet and service record, plus a photographic record of its rebuild. The painstaking way in which it was converted to GT specification is apparent in every detail, and the result is a superb example of this highly sought-after British sports car. 1962 Aston Martin DB4 The Classic Motor Hub If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1990 Ferrari Testarossa
Pininfarina design, gated manual 5-speed gearbox, and a robust, naturally aspirated 12-cylinder engine. This is Ferrari’s signature recipe that has created some of the most iconic and sought-after road cars to date. As we entered the 1980s, it was a truly exciting time in the automotive world as the dawn of the supercar era had arrived. Manufacturers were conjuring up exotic body designs and super-powerful engines for their road cars, to a degree that had never been explored. Lamborghini had come out with the Countach which was unlike anything the car world had seen before, between its massive rear wing, vertically hinged doors, and stunning ascetics. It was pure eye candy that had raw, uncensored power however, Ferrari had an answer for the flashy Lambo. The Ferrari Testarossa is a name that had not been used since the LeMans winning 250TR. This name represents a significant time for Ferrari as well as a significant racing pedigree, so the expectations for the car were very high. In 1984, the stage was set at the Paris Auto Show, as enthusiasts awaited the unveiling of the new, highly anticipated Testarossa and it did not disappoint. It was an immediate success, as Ferrari went on to produce over 10,000 units. Over the course of the Testarossa life cycle, the car underwent only a few cosmetic changes as well as mechanical ones. Early cars were marked by high-mounted, single mirrors on the driver’s side, and the very latest ones, ditching the pop-up headlights. By 1990, only a few model years before moving onto the 512 TR, the original Testarossa had benefited from 5 lug wheels, catalytic converters, and a new flywheel. Given that the previous years were quite the slam dunk for the engineers in Maranello, you can see why only small tweaks were made over the years. The Testarossa on offer here, chassis # ZFFSG17A1L0083906, is finished in its original Rosso Corsa paint and shows just over 9,100 miles on its original engine, #20898. On October 23rd, 1990 this Testarossa was first taken in by a dealer where 1 year later it’s first real owner purchased the car showing 805 miles on the odometer in 1991. Following that, the first owner enjoyed the car thoroughly, putting 3,297 miles on it over two years. The car seemingly stayed with the original owner until 2009 when it was sold to a dealer in Arkansas with an odometer reading of 8,904. In 2013 a new owner was reported who held onto the car for several years before passing it off to Cauley Ferrari, in West Bloomfield, Michigan in 2017. After arriving at Cauley a full comprehensive inspection of the suspension, electrical system, and all of the glass was carried out, as well as a general service including an oil change was completed. Following the completion of those services, the car was purchased by its current owner, who has sparingly enjoyed this classic red over tan Testarossa. This example is truly collector grade in every sense of the word with its original paint hardly showing a single knick on the front hood, wheels in perfect original shape, and paint with incredible depth and orange peel throughout. The tan with brown interior presents wonderfully with one scuff near the shifter housing and only minor wear on the driver-side seat as one would expect. Once seated you’re greeted with a perfect driving position and once out onto the road this Testarossa springs to life, with its wonderful 12-cylinder engine and engaging gated 5-speed manual transmission. These days, a mid-engine 12-cylinder Ferrari is a $1,000,000 affair at minimum. Testarossas provide an entry point much cheaper at which that iconic layout can be enjoyed! Included in the sale of this Testarossa are the original manuals, Classiche Certification, and full factory tool set. 1990 Ferrari Testarossa LBI Limited If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1963-ferrari-250-gt-berlinetta-lusso-3
This LHD example was the 174th car built, completed at the factory in October 1963 and subsequently delivered to the official dealer in Florence two months later. One of just 17 black Lusso’s to leave the factory, this car was purchased by its first owner Carlo Fiorini, an industrialist from the city (perhaps a late Christmas present to himself) on December 28th. Enjoying the car enormously, the car returned the factory for its first service the following month, already having covered 2,000kms. Fiorini returned the car to the factory twice more that year; in March at 4,600kms and later in June with 9,600kms. The car was sold to its second owner in 1966 by Fiorini to a resident in Rome who would also return the car to the factory for service; 1967 now at an impressive 56,700kms. The third owner was a British businessman who purchased the car in June 1967, later sending the car to LA by steamship to arrive in April 1968. The car had a series of US owners including renowned collector and historian Ed Niles, whose photographs of the car remain the file to this day. Moving from LA to Oregon in 1981, a comprehensive restoration began, completing in late 1982. At this time the car was put up for sale and had been refinished in red. In January 1986, the car was sold as part of a deal including a 330GTS to large car collector, Mr Artam. Owner of a private car museum, Mr Artam stored the car as part of his collection in Istanbul, Turkey where it would remain until we purchased the car in 2016. A total nut and bolt restoration was set upon to the DK’s highest standard. Having restored close to 100 Ferrari 250-series cars since our founding, DK Engineering were the obvious choice for the comprehensive, bare-metal restoration of this car. We stripped the car to the bare metal over the course of a week, ensuring a full inventory was made of all parts. We delivered the car to renowned metal panel beaters, Bodylines of Northampton. After removing the paint, the thoroughly original bodywork was revealed. Particular time and attention was spent ensuring the rear wheel arches were the correct shape and as per original images of the car. With no two cars identical, this process took a number of weeks of research, high-resolution images and numerous inspections. At the same time, comprehensively rebuilt the matching-numbers engine in house. When completed, the engine was fully photographed before being put into storage. It was subsequently purchased by its current owner in 2024, and driven in the Richard Mille sponsored 'Le Rallye des Légendes'. At the owner's request, the engine has since been fettled in such a way as to balance out any hint of vibration. As the previous owner of multiple 250 Lusso chassis', the meticulous Swiss gentleman to whom this car belongs wanted to ensure that this particular Lusso characteristic was entirley eradicated. Each stage of the restoration was thoroughly documented, for reference but equally as a means to demonstrate the art of the process. After the metalwork was complete, the car was photographed ahead of its move to paint-masters Spray Tec. Refinished in its original deep black, the car was once more photographed on a jig ahead of reassembly at our main facility. Read more about our inhouse restoration of this example: A Comprehensive Restoration - 1 of 17 Lusso's Supplied New in Nero The interior trim was chosen as Vaumol 3015, a period option green that delightfully contrasts the deep black coachwork. O’ Rourke Coachtrimmers handled all of the interior work, visiting our site regularly to complete the installation. Over the course of 26 months, a total of 2,970 hours has been spent on the restoration. With final assembly completed, the car has since appeared at Salon Prive where it was awarded Most Elegant Car on the lawns in 2023. This stunning matching-numbers 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso is available to view at our showrooms just outside London immediately. 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso D.K.
