  • 1955-aston-martin-db3s

In its maiden season, the DB3S accelerated Aston Martin’s rise as a highly competitive Works outfit during a golden era of sportscar racing. Based on the earlier DB3—noted to be heavy and struggling against rival cars such as the Jaguar C-Type—the DB3S was a transformation overseen by Willie Watson, who enhanced Professor Robert Eberan von Eberhorst’s initial blueprint. Redesigned with a shorter chassis, the sportscar was lighter and more agile as a result, all the while wearing timeless bodywork styled by Frank Feeley. Aston Martin built 10 examples to serve the Works squad, with one additional DB3S built to team specification in 1957 but not raced by the factory. The likes of Peter Collins, Reg Parnell, and Roy Salvadori quickly found success from behind the wheel of the factory-campaigned DB3Ss, as the car began competitive action in May 1953. The three cars entered into the 24 Hours of Le Mans succumbed to a lack of testing time but just days after, Parnell roared back with 1st place in the British Empire Trophy followed by winning the Charterhall International. Meanwhile, team 1-2s ensued in the 9 Hours of Goodwood (Parnell and Eric Thompson in 1st; Collins with Pat Griffith scoring 2nd) and the RAC Tourist Trophy race at Dundrod in the sixth round of the inaugural World Sportscar Championship (Collins and Griffith in 1st; Parnell and Thompson placing 2nd). To follow the competitive success of the DB3S, some 20 further examples were commissioned for purchase by privateer race teams—or simply for sportscar enthusiasts seeking a nimble roadster that could be driven on the public highway. The customer-specification builds stayed true to form of the Works cars, notably punctuated by the achingly pretty bodywork styled by Feeley. The factory entrants were marked by two-digit chassis numbers, while customer cars gained a triple-digit identifier. The example offered here, chassis number DB3S/111, was constructed between August and October 1955. Finished by the factory in Almond Green with a silver-painted grille and green leather upholstery, the DB3S was initially retained by the factory. Almost immediately after completion the car was taken to the 1955 British Motor Show at Earls Court, where it was exhibited on the Aston Martin show stand. In accompanying photography, famed Bond girl Eunice Gayson, who played Sylvia Trench in 007 films Dr No and From Russia With Love, is captured posing with the car and sitting in the driver’s seat. Coinciding with its retention by the factory, it is believed, but not confirmed, that chassis DB3S/111 was the car road tested by Autosport for a review printed in February 1956 and by Autocar the following April. Period correspondence on file notes that the car was presented in March 1956 to Brooklands of Bond Street, who sold the DB3S to its first private owner, one Mr Mackie, with its first registration with the number plate “SLX 899” recorded in May. Further documentation from the Aston Martin Owners Club notes the next owner as R S Wilkins, who allegedly had the car fitted with SU carburettors—rather than standard Weber issue—in an effort to tame the 3.0-litre straight-six engine for application on the road. The Aston Martin changed hands again in 1960 and over the next few years, it was successfully raced by its next three keepers. The first, Mr Doggett, finished 7th overall in the VSCC Pomeroy Trophy in 1960. The following year, he returned for overall victory. Also in 1961, Mr Doggett exhibited the DB3S at the Banbury Concours. Its next custodian, Mr W Ham, assumed ownership in 1962 and finished 2nd overall in a BRSCC race at Snetterton, followed by victory at another event at Silverstone, and 3rd place in an LMC Snetterton race. In 1963, Mr Alderslade bought the car and finished 2nd overall in a Silverstone race and 2nd again in an SMRC event at Snetterton. In 1965, the DB3S was acquired by Mr Ivan Carr, heir to the eponymous biscuit and cracker manufacturer based in Carlisle. A period letter on file notes that Carr bought the car in poor cosmetic condition but fitted a new cylinder head after cracks appeared in the original unit. The car stayed in Cumbria for nine years until it was bought by Mr John Crabtree of Otley, Yorkshire in 1973. The following year, chassis number DB3S/111 was acquired by Roger Forshaw, son of marque historian and founder of Aston Service Dorset, Ivan Forshaw. A letter on file from Roger notes that alongside his brother Richard, the Forshaws had long planned to acquire a DB3S, whether Works- or production-specification, and they began contacting the known owners of the cars. On speaking to Mr Carr, it was revealed that his example had been verbally agreed to be sold to Mr Crabtree, who was able to turn a quick profit on the Aston Martin so his ownership did not last for long. In the care of the Forshaw family, at various points custodians of some of the most significant cars to wear the badge (including sister car, chassis number DB3S/101), the DB3S was richly enjoyed. It was regularly driven to Aston Martin Owners Club meetings at Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Wiscombe Park, Fort Belvedere, and other venues. On speaking with RM Sotheby’s, Anthony Forshaw—son of Roger and now Managing Director of Aston Service Dorset—fondly recalled being driven to school in “SLX 899”. What a way to impress your classmates! In 1990, Aston Service Dorset oversaw the restoration of chassis number DB3S/111, with the process led by John Lambert, former technician for Team Lotus and John Surtees’ self-named race team. The car was rebuilt, retrimmed, and repainted by the time it was finally completed in 1992. In 2014, the DB3S was acquired by its next keeper, this time in the United States, after four decades of single-family ownership. The car later returned to Europe, where it has been enjoyed in the most significant events and rallies, not limited to the Mille Miglia Storica. Now the rare opportunity has arisen once more to buy this significant Aston Martin, which is offered with a spare engine block, the DB3S would be an ideal contender for future participation in the many concours events and rallies it is eligible to enter. A cornerstone of Aston Martin’s competition history and surely the centre-point of any marque collection, presented here in its factory-correct colour scheme, this cherished and renowned DB3S awaits the next chapter in its fascinating story so far. 1955 Aston Martin DB3S RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1970 Jaguar XKE Roadster Series 2

Like many Jaguars of this era, this example was driven recreationally and partially restored by prior owners. A generally sound example, this car benefited from residence for many years in southern Oregon. According to prior owner history, in the early 1980s, the car was purchased from an Ashland, OR repair shop on a tip from two strangers conversing while on a flight to Portland. Upon arriving at the repair shop, the new owner cured the outstanding bill and purchased the car. The car and several boxes arrived at the new owner’s home where it was gradually rebuilt as a long-term hobby project enjoyed by a local Oregon couple. Work performed on the car was done by a host of specialized vendors including paint applied most likely in the late 1980s along with various mechanical and cosmetic details as needed. Driving was limited to local events until the owners parked the car indoors and stored it with regular operation until 2010. The car was reportedly not driven when it was purchased and mechanically recommissioned by the next owner. Under more recent ownership, this Jaguar has been mechanically freshened and gently recommissioned with attention to mechanical features. The engine was cleaned, carburetor needle valve and gaskets replaced for both carburetors, new fuel hoses installed, a secondary fuel filter installed, ignition system rewired, and a fresh set of spark plugs installed along with a new oil pressure sender. A new brake master cylinder and booster were installed, a new clutch slave cylinder installed, and the heater control valve repaired. The brake fluid reservoirs were rewired, and a battery hold down bracket installed. During the recommission the fuel was drained, crankcase oil and filter changed, and the hydraulic system flushed. The electrical system was comprehensively reviewed, electrical contacts cleaned, switch functions checked, lighting replaced as needed, and other electrical features tested for operation. For the interior, the instruments were reviewed, the speedometer repaired, the tachometer lubricated and adjusted, heater control lever and choke mechanism replaced, the instrument voltage regulator replaced, and turn signal/hazard wiring repaired. The carpet was replaced, the seats were removed for seat track cleaning, and adjusted for smooth function. The convertible top mechanism was also serviced to ensure smooth operation. Current Condition Today this Jaguar presents as an attractive and honest example which benefits from older restoration work performed several years ago. Although the restoration work has aged the car still presents as a visually pleasant example. The paint is glossy and nicely done, though there are areas of light surface bubbling on the driver’s front fender, minor road chips, trunk lid chips, and light swirling in some areas of the finish. The front of the car benefits from the thinner profile chrome bumper and much of the chrome is in good condition despite minor cosmetic flaws, though very much in keeping with the overall driver-level presentation. The tan canvas top fits properly to the windshield and remains in nice visual condition, appearing to have had only minimal use. The chrome wire wheels are in excellent condition and correct for this series, shod with a set of Vredestein 205/70 SR15 radial tires. The lights and glass are in very good condition as well with nice presentation, again in keeping with the overall quality driver-level condition. The interior is in excellent shape considering the older restoration. The leather seats retain clean surfaces and soft feel. The console and dashboard upholstery are very nice, and the carpet is clean and quite nice, having been more recently replaced. The steering wheel has the correct appearance and nicely finished aluminum spokes with a handsome center emblem. A late model Sony AM/FM cassette radio is installed. The instruments are in excellent visual condition although the tachometer and oil pressure gauge are currently not functional. The switches and controls are in very nice shape as well, once again contributing to the look and feel of a driver level sports car. Although the convertible top has not been used much and the exterior is in generally good condition, the inside top bow liner fabric seams have come unglued. The engine compartment is generally clean and nicely detailed. The engine itself is quite tidy and appears to be visually consistent with original specifications. The suspension A-arms show some surface age and the painted engine areas also have aged over time, but here too in keeping with the overall presentation. The trunk has been properly finished with matching tan material, housing a full-size wire wheel. The undercarriage reveals a clean and tidy car that has seen road use, jack point repairs, and overspray, but still maintains a very presentable level of finish, including a few painted and raw metal surfaces, cosmetically touched up in various places. One of the added benefits of the later Series II cars is the improved driver ergonomics which accommodates larger drivers and contributes greatly to the driving experience. The joys of open two-seater roadster configuration are further enhanced with the E-Type long hood and short deck. Seating position is very well balanced and driver ergonomics well suited to touring with comfort and luggage space that encourages weekend getaways. General operational features are consistent with the presentation including shifting and engine power, braking, and steering which function consistent with cars of this age. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire an honest, driver-level E-Type Roadster ready to enjoy, refine over time, and appreciate as one of the best-looking sports cars ever created. Series II examples represent outstanding value compared to Series I roadsters. For anyone seeking a Series II E-Type, this example represents the right balance of beauty and usability, readily prepared for your ongoing motoring enjoyment. 1970 Jaguar XKE Roadster Series 2 Fantasy Junction If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC 5.0 'Rallyewagen'

Mercedes-Benz surprised the rally world in 1977 with the announcement of the 450 SLC. Built to homologate the 450 SL for the 1978 World Rally Championship, the car was powered by a new all-aluminium 5.0-litre V-8. The special body featured weight-saving alloy bonnet and boot panels, with the rally car developed by the renowned engineer, Dr Erich Waxenberger. The doors remained steel, but it was thinner than that used on the production cars. Mercedes-Benz built 19 examples exclusively for use in international rallying, with only seven badged as a 450 SLC 5.0, each equipped with a specially developed automatic transmission. Completed on 26 September 1979, chassis 836 was registered with the license plate “S-DV 9032”. It was fitted with a special development all-aluminium V-8 engine (40 kilograms lighter than the iron variant), supplementary cooling systems for oil and coolant, and a clever radiator that served as a grille to protect the power steering system from debris. The car made its competition debut at the 1979 Bandama Rally Côte D’Ivoire as part of a four-car Works entry. Numbered 4, the 450 SLC 5.0 was driven by rally ace Björn Waldegård and Hans Thorszelius, who battled throughout the five-day event to place 2nd in a historic Mercedes-Benz 1-2-3-4 finish. The manufacturer became the first to win a WRC rally with V-8 power, and the first to do so with an automatic transmission. Despite finishing 2nd behind Hannau Mikkola, Waldegård beat him by a single point to become the 1979 World Rally Drivers’ Champion—the only time he would achieve such a feat. The car’s next outing was the 1980 Marlboro Safari Rally in Kenya. Piloted by Vic Preston Jr and John Lyall, a storming performance had the pair finish 3rd in the jungle. The Rallyewagen served as a training car in Argentina later that year. In 1982, this 450 SLC 5.0 was sold by Mercedes-Benz to the Belgian race team owner Serge Beankens—commonly known as Serge Power. Under the “Power” team, chassis 836 was modified to race at the 1982 24 Hours of Spa. The aluminium engine block was replaced with a more reliable steel variant, a twin-filler, 120-litre fuel tank was fitted, but the three-speed automatic gearbox remained. Sponsored by telecoms company Alcatel and Tuborg beer, the car wore race number 22 and a combination of Claude Bourgoignie, John Cooper, and Alain Lierneux achieved 9th overall and 8th in class at the Belgian race. One year on, chassis 836 was fielded by Michel de Deyne’s race team in the 1983 24 Hours of Spa. Piloted by de Deyne, Marc Duez, and Hervé Regout, the car sported red and white livery sponsored by Cutty Sark Scotch Whiskey and wore the race number 12. Running as high as 4th place, unfortunately, rear axle trouble forced a retirement in the 22nd hour, but this Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC 5.0 went on to compete in some rounds of the 1983 European Touring Car Championship, notably at Zolder, where it finished 12th overall. Serge Power sold chassis 836 in 1984—having reinstated the aluminium V-8 engine—to Dr Peter Lorenz in Koblenz, who restored the car and returned it to the period-correct 1979 Bandama Rally livery. By 1990 it was co-owned by two private individuals who sold it to the consigning private collector in the February of that year. A copy of a German title on file notes that Mercedes-Benz Stuttgart first registered the car on 26 September 1979. Furthermore, this 450 SLC 5.0 is accompanied by a Mercedes-Benz-headed letter, dated October 1986, that verifies its period race results. The history of chassis 836 has been well recorded in many books devoted to the Mercedes-Benz brand, and the car was prominently featured in the April 2024 edition of Tazio Magazine. With two podium finishes to its name, a Rally Drivers’ Championship title, as well both international rallying and endurance racing in its repertoire, this 450 SLC 5.0 presents what is an unrepeatable opportunity to acquire an ex-Mercedes-Benz Works rally car from excellent provenance. It would make a fine addition to any collection of serious competition cars—and a tempting proposition for those wanting to compete in historic rallying or historic endurance racing events. 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC 5.0 'Rallyewagen' RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright Mercedes-Benz surprised the rally world in 1977 with the announcement of the 450 SLC. Ferrari's 201 mph F40 is the definitive supercar and has a formidable reputation alongside the 250 GTO as possibly the best road Ferrari built to date. With the F40, Pininfarina produced an era-defining creation, one that even today is instantly recognisable by old and young enthusiasts alike. F40's were closely derived from the experimental GTO Evoluzione and the road-going 288 GTO (that the F40 replaced). The design features a tubular steel chassis with bonded composite inserts, most notably around the sills and floor pan, The 2,936 cc motor produces approximately 500 bhp at 7,000 rpm with the help of two water-cooled IHI turbochargers running 1.1 bar of boost. At 1,202 kg, the F40 had, and still has, a phenomenal power-to-weight ratio. Shatteringly fast by any comparison (especially for 1988), the F40 can sprint from 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds and hit 201 mph flat out making it the first production car to surpass this mystical boundary. Completed at the factory in January 1989, this example is one of the 7-series chassis cars completed that benefit from a number of key differences removed over the span of production. Naturally as a 7-series production example, this early F40 is both non-cat and non-adjust, which are considered to be the more pure, more raw variant of the esteemed model. Corroborating with the very early build date are several characteristics which are indicative of an early ‘non-cat, non-adjust’ car. These include the bare aluminium intercoolers, and the different construction and finishing of carbon Kevlar components such as the more rudimentary surface undeath the front clam, which draws the eyes to the unique way in which the NACA ducts are affixed to its underside; a true reflection of how these early cars were built to be as minimal, basic and as lightweight as possible. Under the front clam, the front brake cooling ducts and their flanges are also visible, and the manner they join to the clam is again different to later cars. The front wheel well is of the split, two-piece design, seen only on a handful of the earliest examples. Similarly, this example features non-adjustable suspension, introduced as an option on the later produced cars. The interior also sees alternative soft fabric seats witnessed previously on other early examples by DK. The 74th example completed, this example was completed at the factory on 27th January 1989, already having been earmarked by Ferrari themselves for the upcoming Geneva International Motorshow. The F40 was delivered ahead of this to official importer IFS Ferrari Suisse SA in February. As corroborated by noted Ferrari historian Marcel Massini, this example then sat alongside Ferrari’s latest and greatest offering, the brand new Mondial T at the 59th Geneva Motorshow in March 1989. 9th December 1988 Factory build start date 27th January 1989 Factory completion date February 1989 Delivered new to official importer IFS Ferrari Suisse SA 9th March 1989 Displayed on the Ferrari stand during the 59th Geneva International Motor Show, upgraded to sliding windows for the show 9th May 1990 Road registered in the name of Graber Automobile of Wichtrach With the Pirelli P-Zero having been developed as the first road-going bespoke compound tyre for the F40, it was this option-tyre that was selected for its presence at Geneva. The P-Zero name had been introduced five years earlier with the Delta S4, but as a semi-slick on a homologation production run. P-Zeros at the time had a slightly different sidewall to those available today. It is worth noting that the car recieved sliding windows for the show, to be returned to specification as per the original build sheets after the show. It would not receive road registration until the 9th of May 1990 with its warranty booklet issued in the name of Graber Automobile of Wichtrach. The car was sold the following year to close friend of Graber Automobile, Fridolin Broder of Liechtenstein who was for a short period, the official importer into the country. Its next owner, Mr Höflinghoff-Hess of Germany retained the car for a number of years, eventually advertising the car in German-magazine Auto, Motor & Sport in July of 1998 with just 875 kms. The F40 was snapped up by Bernhard Dransmann of Osnabrück later the same month and he would retain the car for just over two years. Dransmann would sell the car to its most recent custodian in September of 2000. Over the past 25 years, this F40 has been cared for by just one custodian. Today this example has covered just 12,500 kilometres. All of the early details which set this car apart remain true today, including the original soft-fabric seats (although an additional retrimmed set will be supplied), bare aluminium intercoolers, split wheel well, unpainted lower sills and largely exposed engine bay weave. This remarkable F40 today presents superbly at our showrooms outside London. With yellow in-filled tyres as a modern nod to how it was presented at the Geneva Motor Show just shy of 36 years ago, this F40 would be a standout addition to any collection. Today this F40 is accompanied by its original book pack and wallet, spare key and tools and whilst serviced prior to arrival, this example will pass through our workshops once more ahead of sale. 1989 Ferrari F40 D.K. The Lancia Flaminia Super Sport Zagato is one of the most fascinating Italian grand tourer models of the 1960s – a rare combination of technical sophistication, exclusive design, and racing DNA. The Lancia Flaminia Super Sport 3C 2.8 Zagato offered here is one of only approximately 150 built. The car was imported from Paris to Switzerland in 1989 and was part of the large Heer collection, owned by the notorious former director and credit manager of the Rothschild private bank, Dr. Jürg Heer. In the 1990s, he was one of the most important collectors of classic and rare cars. This beautiful Lancia Flaminia Super Sport Zagato was in its last ownership for over 32 years and is in perfectly maintained, top-quality and very original collector’s condition. The engine and chassis are matching numbers, and many documents are available. A few years ago, a renowned appraiser prepared a valuation report, which attested to this gem’s condition grade of 1-. Due to the small number of units produced and the Zagato bodywork, the Super Sport is now one of the most sought-after classic Lancia models. • 1996 Honda NSX-T

This first-generation, right-hand drive, manual gearbox Honda NSX Targa enjoyed its early life as a, much featured, UK Press Car. The legendary Honda NSX (standing for New Sportscar Experimental) was developed by the Honda Motor Corporation between 1984 and its eventual launch in 1990, with major chassis and suspension input from three-times F1 World Champion, Ayrton Senna and was everything that a sports car should be - dynamic, rewarding and stimulating. It featured an all-aluminium monocoque body, encompassing a revolutionary extruded aluminium-alloy frame and suspension making the car extremely light and very strong. Power was provided by a state-of-the-art, 3.0-litre, 24-valve, V6 'VTEC' engine (variable valve timing) which, despite being developed during F1's turbo-era, was normally aspirated. The free-revving, all-alloy unit produced 270bhp initially, which was good enough for a top speed of 168mph and a 0-60 time of less than 6.0 seconds. Those performance figures put the NSX on a par with Ferrari's 348 GTB, but in terms of comfort, ergonomics, driving dynamics and build quality, the NSX was in a different league entirely. The car was the first real Japanese 'supercar', proving itself and quickly establishing respect from its key competitors. However, this superiority was not translated into sales and, by the time production ceased in 2005, fewer than 20,000 had been sold making them relatively rare and much sought-after today. Despite those slow sales, the NSX earned huge industry respect as the first mass-produced aluminium-bodied car with F1-derived innovations like platinum spark plugs, titanium con rods, a magnesium induction plenum, alloy wishbones and subframes, four-channel ABS brakes and an interior with the 360-degree cockpit visibility of an F-16 fighter jet. Iconic Auctioneers are proud to offer this rather special NSX, a first-generation, right-hand drive Targa with the desirable manual gearbox, finished in Sebring Silver with a Burgundy hide interior. It's an original UK car that was initially allocated to Honda's UK Press Department and was featured in many press releases and magazine road tests including a very complimentary one in Motor Sport Magazine. Originally registered as N115 GLY, it was finished completely in silver with no black top, a colour scheme that sets it apart from the general production examples. In excellent overall condition, the car is outstanding throughout and presents superbly, fitted with slightly larger 18" wheels of a similar pattern and an enhanced exhaust system. The comprehensive history file includes invoices going back almost to day one as well as an impressive MOT trace, displaying regular care and maintenance throughout its life. Now back on its original plates, N115 GLY, it should be noted that the Cherished Registration Number illustrated, E2 NSZ does not form part of the sale but could be available by separate negotiation. With a fabulous, temperament-free, mid-mounted engine, great chassis balance, and approachable running costs, the NSX was known as a hassle-free 'Supercar' back in 1990 and that description still applies over thirty years later. 1996 Honda NSX-T Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1977-porsche-930-turbo-1

Highlights for this car 40 years of current California ownership One of 727 US delivery 1977 model year 930s delivered A very original example with recent mechanical work including new fuel pumps General History The Porsche 930 Turbo was a performance revelation when it debuted in the 1970s. From the day it was offered through decades of iterations, the 930 has continued to prevail as an icon of performance supremacy to millions of performance enthusiasts throughout the world. Without unwarranted hype, the 930 revealed earth-shattering performance figures across all measured standards. After unprecedented success pioneering turbochargers in the 917 Can Am and 911-based sports cars, Porsche took the bold step of developing a reliable and capable turbocharged road car. Porsche's previous high performance 911, the Carrera RS was a raw and elemental homologated race car adapted for the road, the 930 was designed to be a proper flagship: a luxurious and refined car meant to effortlessly cover great distances at high speed. Contemporary press gushed about the 930s effortless ability to gain speed with deceptive composure, a joyful if not blisteringly fast surprise for those who had yet to experience the power and afterburner snap of a turbocharged car. The 930 immediately became the surprise supercar of the decade, brimming with wide fenders, rear spoiler, and hunkered down racing stance, the 930 put Porsche in a different category than it had previously occupied. In the eyes of exotic performance car enthusiasts a new contender had arrived, one that would dominate and ultimately alter the course of every future Porsche offering. General Overview This Porsche 930 was purchased by the current owner in July 1985 and has remained in his care, residing in southern California, as documented by the clean California “pink slip” issued in 1985. Finished in the desirable and attractive original color combination of Ice Green metallic with cork leather interior, this Porsche is one of 727 J-Series USA version 930s delivered in 1977. Delivered with a factory sunroof, headlight washers, rear window wiper, and Fuchs staggered width wheels, the chassis number indicates this car to be one of the earliest production cars built for the 1977 model year, further supported by the August 1976 build date stamped on the original door tag. Currently indicating 158,000 miles on the six-digit VDO speedometer, the long-term owner logged the majority of these miles commuting to his Santa Monica, CA office. General service and maintenance have been regular until more recent years as the owner aged out of driving and gradually reduced his regular use of the car. Approximately 12 years ago, the owner had the car professionally repainted for cosmetic improvement and more recently the engine and gearbox were removed, the top end of the engine was comprehensively rebuilt by German Motors, Santa Monica, CA, the clutch serviced, and all fluids and systems checked. In July 2022, the car returned to German Motors for a full-service including oil and filter change, valve adjustment, new valve cover gaskets, front and rear brake caliper rebuild (all four), new brake pads, new brake rotors, and replacement for the rear sway bar link bushings. Throughout the past 40 years of ownership, the owner had thoughtfully collected records and service invoices on the car. While living in the Pacific Palisades, the owner was fortunate to be able to evacuate the 2025 fire, relocate most of his belongings, and bring the car to a safe location. However, at this time, the owner has unfortunately not been able to recover the service records. In preparation for sale, this Porsche has been serviced by Eason Autoworks, Oakland, CA, including the replacement of both fuel pumps. General Condition Today, this Porsche 930 offers clean and correct driver level finishes as maintained under long-term California ownership. The car was repainted in the original Ice Green Metallic to very good standards approximately 12 years ago and has benefited from ongoing indoor storage and minimal accumulated miles in recent years. The finish is very nice overall with smooth gloss, correct microflake metallic, and consistent coverage across all body panels. Though not the original paint, all metal body panels have been metered with a digital paint meter, returning low two-digit numbers indicative of respray only. The steel body panels are straight and solid with good fit and operation. The trim and badges are in very nice condition, as are the lighting and glass. The side and rear glass retain the correct Sekurit brand etches indicative of factory original glass. The rubber trim is in very good condition including the correct Porsche accordion bumper ends and the embossed rear wing rubber which is in excellent condition. A correct set of Fuchs wheels are mounted featuring polished aluminum rims and black centers. A mixed set of Pirelli P5000 205/55 R16 front and Continental ContiSport Contact 225/50 R16 rear tires are mounted. The original cork leather interior is in good original condition displaying what appears to be the original finishes and components that have been maintained by the current long-term owner. The leather seating surfaces on the front seats are supple, with minimal wear, though typical bolster wear is evident on the driver’s left bolster and some lower seat foam has softened to create more of a seat bucket pocket. The carpets are original and in generally good condition as are the rear seating surfaces and carpeted seatbacks which create a convenient storage shelf when folded into the down position. The dashboard, door panels, and door caps are similarly nice and the black accent materials, steering wheel, and shifter are all in very good to excellent condition. A modern Kenwood AM/FM CD stereo has been installed in the dash. The VDO gauges are clear and contrasting with excellent black trim rings, crisp numeric indication, and orange needles. The switches are correct and in very good condition and the sunroof operates smoothly fore and aft. The engine compartment is original and unmodified. Having benefited from recent professional engine work, the cosmetics have not been restored, though the overall condition is sound and representative of a rarely seen original example. Although the major air conditioning components remain in place, the system is currently not blowing cold air. Overall, the engine and engine compartment remain undisturbed and unmodified, a particular delight given this early series 930. The front storage area is also original showing some aging to the otherwise original finishes but revealing sound structural elements beneath the carpeting. The date coded original spare tire is included. The underside of the car is sound and presentable showing no visual evidence of damage or structural repair to the pan, rocker panels, or suspension mounting points. The car starts, runs, and drives well, responding as one might expect from a car that has been consistently well-maintained and driven with pride. Aside from a bit of patience required when cold starting, the engine pops to life and the clutch engages easily for smooth first gear takeoff. Once underway, the gearbox operates with good synchromesh and linkage. The steering is responsive and the braking quite good coming down from highway speeds on a firm and tall pedal. Overall, the driving experience is sound and responsive, offering a reminder of how enjoyable these cars can be once a driver respects the race-bred capability and ferocity evolved from years of Porsche racing. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a very drivable and presentable 930. Finished in its original color combination, this Porsche 930 is offered with an owner’s manual, tool roll and tools, a set of matching floor mats (turbo embroidered on front set), and a spare accessory belt. 1977 Porsche 930 Turbo Fantasy Junction If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1982 Lancia Rally 037 Stradale Evo II

In the summer of 1979, the FIA announced their Group B rallying regulations, a radical change in the racing-car classification system scheduled to begin competition in 1982. With very little time to at hand for the project, Lancia quickly determined their Group B creation would require extensive development from a preexisting chassis and powertrain. Consequently, Abarth and Pininfarina were immediately tabbed to design, engineer, and homologate the resulting Lancia vehicle using the triumvirate’s most recent joint project as a basis. Fortunately, that “most recent joint project” was the Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo Gr.5—which was already well on its way to delivering Lancia the 1980 and 1981 World Sportscar Championships. Like the Beta Montecarlo Turbo Gr.5, Lancia’s new rally car was to utilize the central monocoque of the production Montecarlo road car with the engine and suspension carried on tubular subframes front and rear. Abarth’s lead racing engineer and “SE 037” project manager Sergio Limone determined that, unlike the transverse-engined Gr.5, the 037’s 2.0-liter, twin-cam inline four-cylinder engine would be mounted longitudinally to allow more flexibility in rear suspension design, as well as better access to the suspension and gearbox. And for better throttle response, the Gr.5’s exhaust-driven turbo would be replaced by a Roots-type "Volumex" supercharger—as favored by Abarth president Aurelio Lampredi. By April 1980, Abarth had completed the “SE 037” project, with Lancia and Pininfarina subsequently greenlighting production. FIA certification was met on 1 April 1982, and Lancia subsequently debuted the 037 Rally in competition at the Tour de Corse Rallye de France on 6 May. Although the new car finished a promising 9th overall, Lancia focused their 1982 season on intense development rather than a championship run. The following year saw Walter Röhrl and Markku Alén lead the works Martini Racing team to wins at Monte Carlo, Tour de Corse, Acropolis, New Zealand, and Sanremo en route to the 1983 World Rally Championship—Lancia’s fifth constructors’ championship and the final WRC title by a two-wheel-drive car. Echoing the world-beating pedigree of its racing sibling (and Gr.5 predecessor), the roadgoing 037 Stradale is truly a homologation special to experience for one’s self. Much admired for its nimble, razor-sharp handling, direct feedback, and commendable power band that always yearns for the raucous delivery of max boost to the rear wheels, the 037 Stradale is very easy to enjoy but exceptionally difficult to master. When combined with its giant supercharger, the car’s lightweight bodywork, spartan cabin, and close-ratio five-speed transaxle work to surround the driver with a sensory rapture which more than one automotive journalist has called “terrifying”. This particular Evolution II model is an exhilarating, no-holds-barred, exceptionally-impractical-yet-road-registered direct counterpart to the WRC Championship-winning Group B racecar. 037 RALLY STRADALE NUMERO VENTINOVE This 037 Rally Stradale is the 29th of 207 roadgoing examples produced by Lancia between December 1980 and January 1984. An accompanying history file clearly traces the car’s entire chain of ownership to the present, and much of Stradale 29’s provenance has been broadly documented in Piergiorgio Pelassa’s 037 Ultimo Mito, and Lancia 037: The Development and Rally History of a World Champion by Peter Collins. Delivered new to Italy in July 1982, Stradale 29 was subsequently imported to Switzerland on 15 March 1983 by a Fiat-Lancia agent, Marzio Cavadini, for his personal use. In 1984, Cavadini had Stradale 29 thoroughly improved with Abarth’s new “Evolution II” updates, which include an entirely revised supercharger, engine components, exhaust, intake, suspension, cockpit, and brakes. In this specification Stradale 29 is capable of more than 300 horsepower, nearly 50% more power than the standard 037 Rally Stradale. By 1986 this Stradale had passed from Cavadini to Andrea Beltrami of Biasca, then indicating 22,985 kilometers (~14,282 miles). Beltrami enjoyed the car for another 11,000 kilometers until 1992, when it was purchased by a dealer in Ponte Tresa and later consigned to auction on 30 April 1994. The original air conditioning and radio are believed to have been substituted for a fire suppression system during Cavadini—or Beltrami’s— previous ownership. Stradale 29 was thusly purchased by a Belgian collector and given the registration NHK 275 on 15 September 1994. Three years later, a move to the United Kingdom was in due order, and this Lancia was then treated to a comprehensive mechanical refresh completed in September 1998 at 33,867 kilometers (~21,040 miles) by MRH Engineering. After some 800 kilometers of exhilarating road use, this owner perhaps decided that Stradale 29 was a bit too exciting, and thusly sold it onward to the noted vintage racer Stuart Rolt on 10 May 1999. Rather ironically, Rolt’s family company, FFD, had created and developed the four-wheel drive technology which would see two-wheel drive cars like the Lancia 037 made universally obsolete in Group B and all other forms of championship rallying. Though as a former sportscar racer, and Director and Chairman of the prestigious British Racing Drivers’ Club (2004–2013), few were better suited than Rolt to exert mastery over this 037 Rally Stradale Evolution II, and he thusly retained it for the next 15 years. Under his careful ownership it was regularly maintained and occasionally enjoyed in amateur competition at several notable circuits between 2000 and 2014. Rolt finally passed the car to an American collector in late 2014. Some months later Motor Kraft in Noblesville, Indiana was commissioned to complete approximately $15,000 of expert sorting, which is highlighted by the fitment of two custom-fabricated gas tanks mounted just aft of the rear cabin bulkhead. A set of the factory-correct Speedline alloy wheels were also sourced during previous ownership, and today these are shod in BFGoodrich G-Force rubber. Acquired by the consignor in 2021 and now indicating just shy of 38,600 kilometers, (~23,985 miles) at time of cataloguing, Stradale 29 is a remarkable and well-documented Group B homologation special which succinctly echoes the all-conquering performance and thrill of its competition sibling. Where Stradale number 29 sets itself apart is that, if you were able to have both the means and indeed the desire, this is exactly what your money could have bought back in the heyday of Group B. Surely one can drive a rally car on pavement but, thanks to the era's homologation requirements, this truly is a rally car built for the road. 1982 Lancia Rally 037 Stradale Evo II RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
