- 1969 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competizione
The 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans marked the end of an era. It was the last time the legendary 5-litre "big bangers" would do battle at the Circuit de la Sarthe and no fewer than nine Ferrari 512s lined up against seven Porsche 917s. The German marque came out on top with 917s finishing 1st and 2nd, while the 512s had to settle for 3rd and 4th. Following them home in an outstanding 5th position overall was this very special Ferrari 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’ Competizione. This hugely significant piece of Ferrari history was built on 28 April 1969 as a steel-bodied roadgoing model, and was only the third production Daytona ever made. Fascinatingly, it never left the factory, and was retained by Maranello as a development prototype, serving as a test bed for, among other developments, a new type of wiper system. The machine’s early history only got more interesting when, on 26 April 1971, after two years in Ferrari’s ownership, Luigi Chinetti’s fabled North American Racing Team instructed the factory to convert chassis 12467 to competition specification. Chinetti’s target: the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans. The work was carried out under the auspices of the factory by Piero Drogo’s Carrozzeria Sport Car with help from Autofficina Sport. Although the steel body was retained, the modified shell featured a quick-release fuel filler cap in the boot lid, a Dino 206 SP-style fuel capacitor, a 512M fuel pressure gauge, Plexiglass side windows, a front spoiler, and flared wheel arches to accommodate enormous nine-inch rear and eight-inch front wheels. A roaring side-exit exhaust, roll cage, and a 512M-type fire extinguisher system completed the package. Ferrari delivered chassis 12467 directly to Le Mans—as per invoice number 378/71, dated 7 June 1971—where it was piloted by Bob Grossman and Luigi Chinetti Jr. The car’s promise was immediate in practice, with a thundering pace along the Mulsanne Straight impressing ‘Coco’ Chinetti. Chinetti took the opening stint in the French classic before handing over to Grossman as night fell. Chassis 12467 ran like clockwork, slowly climbing the rankings as the more fragile sports prototypes fell by the wayside; by the 19th hour it had risen to a remarkable 5th overall. There it stayed, having set a best lap that was seven seconds faster than it had managed during practice and winning the Index of Thermal Efficiency. Such was the significance of the result that Chinetti received a congratulatory telegram at the end of the race from none other than Enzo Ferrari. NART then took chassis 12467 back to the USA and in November it was sold via Grossman to Clive Baker, who ran the Baker Motors-Ring Free Oil race team. In early 1972 it began its life in the GT 2.5+ category—effectively Group IV GT—and was entered for the Daytona Six Hours, where it finished 3rd in class, and the 12 Hours of Sebring, where regulations demanded that glass side windows be fitted. Later that year it also raced at Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta before being sold to Harley Cluxton III. In June of 1973 the Ferrari was sold to Herb Wetanson, and it remained in the USA for more than 40 years before returning to Europe. In 2022, the current owner decided to restore the car to full Le Mans 1971 specification. The Daytona was sent to Italy and entrusted to Corrado Patella’s Autofficina Omega and Dino Cognolato’s Carrozzeria Nova Rinascente, with the restoration being managed by Ferrari Classiche. The process reunited the original engine block with its original cylinder heads, complete with Le Mans scrutineering stamps from 1971. Further, while down to bare metal, previously hidden mounting points were found for an additional radio antenna and wiper system that were fitted between 1969 and 1971 when the car was being used for development by Ferrari. The Daytona is currently undergoing inspection for Ferrari’s coveted "Red Book" Classiche certification. This machine holds a special place in Ferrari history as the first factory-prepared prototype and genesis of the Daytona Competizione. The model would go on to score victories and class wins everywhere from the Tour de France to the 24 Hours of Daytona, finishing 2nd at the Florida circuit in 1979—a full decade after its launch. Chassis 12467 is where it all began, and its sale represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire not only one of the most desirable iterations of the last great front-engined GT racer, but the very first. 1969 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competizione RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. This car has been confirmed by Stefano d’Amico, president of the Alfa Romeo Registro Storico, to be the car assigned to Andrea De Adamich for the 1972 season. Born in Trieste, Italy, De Adamich was a successful racing driver, not only competing for several years in Formula One but also in World Sports Car Championships. Even today, De Adamich continues his connection with Alfa Romeo and is vice president of N.Technology, which prepares racing cars for Alfa Romeo! At Le Mans in early June 1972, Alfa Romeo entered this car, chassis AR 11572 010, as confirmed by copies of the entry forms supplied by the Le Mans archive. Low downforce rear bodywork was fitted, importantly allowing the engine to rev another 700 rpm on the straights, giving the drivers that final push! For the race, this car was driven by Andrea De Adamich and Nino Vaccarella under race number 18, easily identifiable thanks to its white nose section. The pair qualified this car 7th on the grid, with a time of 3 minutes 52.6 seconds. During the preliminary practise sessions, both Helmut Marko and Teodoro Zeccoli also drove this car. Shortly after the start, on Saturday evening, Vaccarella suffered a clutch issue, requiring over an hour to be spent in the pits whilst the Autodelta mechanics replaced it; then, later in the race, the car was once again forced into the pits, requiring new brake discs. Towards the end of this gruelling event, De Adamich was caught on slick tyres in a downpour, spinning the car at Dunlop curve. After a quick stop at the pits for a check over, the Autodelta mechanics chose to fit a new nose section, one finished in all red this time. Thanks to relentless consistency and never giving up, this car crossed the line in 4th place at the 1972 Le Mans 24 Hours, having covered a staggering 307 laps! Interestingly, this was to be the Alfa Romeo factory’s last finish at the world’s most famous endurance event! This car remained with Autodelta through until the winter of 1973/74, at which point it was bought by Martin Morris in the UK, an enthusiastic racer whose garage housed an ex-Works Jaguar D-type and C-type and an E.R.A. The purchase from Autodelta was negotiated by Richard Pilkington, who also bought an Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/3 at the same time. Martin Morris drove to Italy, through the snow, with a trailer to collect his latest racer, along with a variety of spare parts. This Tipo 33 TT 3 returned to the track at the 1976 and 1977 AMOC meetings at Brands Hatch, and even raced against Richard Pilkington in his Tipo 33/3! Morris also gave his car’s nicknames, with this Alfa being called “Groundhog”. Later in 1977, this car was sold to Steven O’Rourke, the manager of British rock band Pink Floyd. O’Rourke was more than an enthusiast: he was a racer, regularly competing at the Le Mans 24 Hours race, with a best result of 4th overall in a McLaren F1 GTR. O’Rourke retained ownership until 1986, at which point the car travelled to a new home in Japan, where it remained for 13 years, passing through three important collections. Firstly, the Hayashi Collection, then to Yamaguchi and finally to Takeshi Fujita, during which time the engine was rebuilt by an ex-Autodelta employee. In 1999, the car returned to Europe, passing through Jean Guikas of GTC to M. Dubochet in France. In 2002, Dubochet sold the car back to Jean Guikas, who, in 2006, had the engine, suspension and brakes rebuilt before offering the car at auction in 2011, where it was bought by Californian collector Peter Read. During Read’s ownership, the car was maintained by Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 expert Tim Samways Sports & Historic Car Engineers Ltd. Upon arrival at Tim Samways, the decision was made to fully strip and inspect the car in preparation for competition. The car received a new wiring loom, fuel cells and suspension, and the brakes were serviced, with all relevant components also being crack tested. The beautifully patinated exterior remained untouched. The year 2012 saw this car return to the Le Mans circuit for the Classic event in July, where it was driven by Peter Read and Brian Redman in Plateau 5, before competing at the Peter Auto Classic Endurance Racing Dix Mille Tours at Paul Ricard in October. In April 2013, the car was sold to its current German owner, who continued to employ Tim Samways Sports & Historic Car Engineers to maintain the car. The Goodwood Members’ Meeting in March 2017 saw this car be demonstrated by Sam Hancock. Through sheer passion, dedication and knowledge, the current owner has built a sizeable collection of significant competition cars, including a 1968 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/2 ‘Daytona’ and 1974 Tipo 33 TT 12. In October 2017, these three famous cars returned to the Autodelta test track Centro Sperimentale Balocco in Italy. When you have three of the most important post-war Alfa Romeo competition cars and the Autodelta test track to yourself, you need to take some friends, and in this case, that meant Derek Bell, Arturo Merzario and Nanni Galli! Can you imagine being at the Autodelta test track with three of its most important creations and three of the most successful World Sportscar Championship drivers of their era? We think the pictures speak for themselves! Chassis 010’s most recent competition outing was at the 2018 Le Mans Classic, subsequently returning to Tim Samways, for a thorough inspection and post race works. These included an engine refresh that included new valves and springs, spring tops and big-end bolts. This car was born into an era of highly competitive sports car racing, developed from the highly successful Tipo 33/3 — it is the ultimate V8-engined Alfa Romeo sports racing car. Today, this car is eligible for the Peter Auto Classic Endurance Racing Championship, Le Mans Classic, FIA Masters Historic Sports Car Championship and, thanks to its fabulous history, would undoubtedly be welcomed at many of the world’s leading concours events. This Tipo 33 TT 3 is accompanied by its original Le Mans engine block engine block and a healthy spares packages. The opportunity to obtain the final Works-entered Alfa Romeo to finish the world’s most famous endurance race, the Le Mans 24 Hours is not to be missed. Taking design and engineering cues from their competition at Ferrari and Porsche, Alfa Romeo’s latest race car earned its name courtesy of its tubular chassis (Telaio Tubolare in Italian). An all-new steel spaceframe chassis replaced the out-dated sheet-aluminium monocoque of the previous Tipo 33/3. The engine fitted in the Tipo 33 TT 3 was an updated and enhanced version of that previously seen in the Tipo 33/3, now boasting an impressive 440 bhp at 9,800 rpm. Thanks to its redesigned cylinder heads, this high-revving quad-cam, 36-valve V8 engine was producing the same power as Ferrari’s much heavier 12-cylinder unit! Developments over the outgoing Tipo 33/3 were not limited to the engine and chassis construction. There was also a new five-speed gearbox, the wheelbase was increased, and new safety fuel tanks were fitted, whilst the new bodywork did bear similarities to the previous iteration. Initially, the car weighed a mere 600 kg, but to meet regulations, the weight was increased to 650 kg. - 1956 Lotus Eleven Series I Le Mans
Lotus offered three different versions of the Eleven, which eventually became one of the most successful cars from the marque: the 1,100-cc, Coventry Climax-engined ‘Club’, a 1,172-cc Ford-engined ‘Sport’, and the top billing, the 1,508-cc Coventry Climax-derived ‘Le Mans’. The Eleven ‘Le Mans’ featured the more powerful 138 horsepower engine and also featured a chassis that was built some 200 mm wider. This was due to company founder Colin Chapman’s interpretation of the FIA’s Appendix Group C regulations for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the cabin space needed to be larger to adhere to these new rules. It is estimated that only 10 examples of the Le Mans were ever built with a wide chassis. This example was constructed in 1956 and is one of the believed 10 Le Mans “wide chassis” Elevens. Its 1.5-litre Coventry Climax FWB engine is known to have been fitted to this car since 1969. Inspected by the Historic Lotus Register in the 1970s, this example lost its chassis plate in the first part of its life, with the earliest known owner purchasing it from a dealer in Birmingham in 1969. However, they deemed the car to be a period-built example and supplied it with the chassis number it bears today. The Register has also acknowledged that this Lotus Eleven is the only known example which features a “long door frame” as well as a “wide chassis”. The long doors were a period improvisation by Lotus for four cars, which raced at the 1957 12 Hours of Sebring, to enable faster egress and ingress for drivers. While later Elevens are a mixture of “wide chassis” or “long door”, this is thought to be the sole example known to feature both. Still in England in the 1970s, this Eleven became part of Count Hubertus von Dönhoff’s collection in the mid-1970s. It was later acquired by Jason Wright, the well-known collector and avid racer in 1989, who reportedly had the Eleven restored in 1999. The car was then exported to Italy, where it had four owners from 2002 to 2017 and competed in the Mille Miglia Storica three times. It was acquired by the previous Belgian owner in 2017, who went on to participate in the Zoute Grand Prix and the Mille Miglia Storica. Acquired by the current owner in 2021, this Lotus Eleven participated in the 2021 Mille Miglia Storica and was then exported to Dubai, where it competed in the 2022 Mille Miglia Experience UAE—this Lotus comes with a complimentary entry for the 2024 Experience. The car is accompanied by a history file that includes FIA HTP papers, FIVA, and CSAI passports, as well as historic UK registration documents and old MoT certificates. This attractive Eleven is highly eligible for many historic racing events around the world. 1956 Lotus Eleven Series I Le Mans RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright Lotus offered three different versions of the Eleven, which eventually became one of the most successful cars from the marque: the 1,100-cc, Coventry Climax-engined ‘Club’, a 1,172-cc Ford-engined ‘Sport’, and the top billing, the 1,508-cc Coventry Climax-derived ‘Le Mans’. - 1988 Porsche 959
3 owner Example Komfort Package Complete with Books and Tools Always serviced, complete service records including 2 major's from renown Porsche Specialists, Road Scholars Recent service from Road Scholars The 959 was conceived for FIA “Group B” Racing along with the Ferrari 288 GTO and Lamborghini Countach. The 959 was so far ahead of its time. Adjustable suspension. It is a race car dressed in sheep's clothing; it can be pushed to the limit or daily driven to work. The 9 5 9 really defined the definition, “modern supercar.” The 959 was also the first production car to use Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS). The 959 paved the way for modern cutting- edge technology in the future super cars. The twin-turbo charged flat 6 engine pumps out 444hp and propels the 959 from 0-60 in 3.6 seconds and 0-100 in 8.8 seconds. The 959's were not built for the American Market as Porsche did not want to commit 4 cars to the U.S. DOT for crash testing, they argued that it was a 911 model. These were all sold out prior to production. The 959 was so expensive for Porsche to build, they lost money on every single car they produced. These cars were costing Porsche about $550,000 per unit to produce and they were selling them for $225,000 as they underestimated the production costs. The technology in the 959 was way beyond anything that was remotely on the market. The “sequential turbo” technology that was developed for the 959 made its way to the production cars about a decade later. The Porsche 959 truly is and will be one of the most iconic halo cars. These were limited production cars with 292 production cars produced. In that number there were 29 “S” models. The Porsche 959 was versatile in every aspect, it was a streetcar, it competed in the Paris Dakar Rally and won, it competed in the 24 Hours of LeMans and won its class. Having driven many super cars and race cars, the 959 is one that is very streetable, the 959 is a car that you can drive every day and not feel exhausted. Docile when you want it to be and a performance car at the flip of a switch. This 959 Komfort is special car in that it is a 3-Owner example from new. It has always been serviced and retains all of its service records. This car has undergone a full major service in the last two years by Road Scholars and most recently had an annual service performed by Road Scholars. We just performed a complete cryogenic cleaning on this car with dry ice and a full concours detail. It is also protected with a full body paint protection film. This example is in the top 1% of 959 examples that are left. Best of all, the 959 is a supercar that you can drive, every day and not feel exhausted. This is a true investment grade example of a “Homologation” car from the 80's. The 959 is a must have for any Porsche Collection and a must have for any modern super car collection. 1988 Porsche 959 GT Motor Cars If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. Equipment includes 14? alloy wheels, a sunroof, four-wheel disc brakes, dual carburetors, a Nardi steering wheel, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM stereo. The car was previously sold on BaT in November 2017 and was acquired by the current owner in 2022. This 3.0CS is now offered on dealer consignment as part of the Mohr Imports Monterey Collection Sale with a tool kit, recent service records, and a clean Arizona title. A scratch is present on the lower portion of the driver’s door, and a section of paint is missing on the left-rear wheel arch. Paint bubbles are noted near the sunroof and on the passenger-side door. A collection of paint meter readings are viewable in the gallery below. Silver 14? alloy wheels wear bright hubcaps and Firestone All-Season tires that measure 185/70. Bilstein rear shocks have been installed, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes. The front wheel bearings were serviced in March 2022. The front bucket seats and contoured rear bench were reupholstered in tan leather under previous ownership, while woodgrain trim accents the black dashboard and door panels. Additional equipment includes power windows, a heater, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM stereo. The sunroof motors and headliner were replaced under previous ownership. The air conditioning system is inoperable, and a crack is noted on the dash. A wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel frames a 150-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, a clock, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 18k miles, approximately 1,500 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The 3.0-liter M30 inline-six is equipped with dual carburetors and sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Service in March 2022 consisted of replacing the transmission seals, oil pan gasket, and front crankshaft seal. - 1979 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4
UK-supplied in right-hand drive, this pretty, Bertone-designed, mid-engined V8 GT4 is in superb order throughout. Introduced at the 1973 Paris Motor Show, the Dino 308 GT4 was a significant departure for Ferrari in several ways. It was the first production car from Modena to feature a mid-engined V8, a layout that would become common to their core range for decades to come, along with the first production model to feature Bertone styling rather than Pininfarina bodywork. The chassis was based on the Dino 246 but was stretched to make space for a 2+2 configuration and the 3-litre V8 was integrally joined with the gearbox and featured an alloy block and heads with dual overhead camshafts fed through four Weber 40 DCNF carburettors. The styling was controversial at the time, with some journalists comparing it to the Bertone-designed Lancia Stratos and Lamborghini Urraco and the proportions gave traditionalists an attack of the vapours but, as is often the way, Bertone's styling effort probably looks better now than it ever has. For all this, the car was a huge success, being bigger and more usable than any other mid-engine car had managed or would manage for a while. More than 3,600 were sold, dwarfing sales of V12 models and showing Ferrari the way forward. Today, these 1970s Ferraris have come of age with their classic looks and brilliant handling and are as fast as you are ever going to need in the real world, with a top speed of over 150mph and 0-60mph in 6.4 seconds. Classically presented in Rosso Corsa with a contrasting black interior, this example was UK-supplied in right-hand drive by Maranello Concessionaires on 29th March 1979 and is offered fresh to market from 11 years with its current owner. For most of this period it has been diligently cared for by the respected team at ‘QV London’ and serviced annually as required with the last service carried out at 40,652 miles (current indicated mileage 40,955) at which time the cam belt, tensioner and cam belt pulley were replaced. The history file contains almost every MOT Certificate issued since the date of original registration, including the current one valid until June 2025 and the documented service history is stamped by notable names including Maranello, JR Etheridge, John Pogson at Autosport Italia and latterly, QV. With regards to the car’s overall condition, the external paintwork has clearly been refinished at some time but still retains a deep lustre with the interior thought to be as it left the factory, presenting extremely well with the odd blemish that could be very easily enhanced if required, however an air of originality is not always a bad thing providing a nod of approval to the years of enjoyable miles covered by previous custodians. It’s supplied with the original document wallet, service book and Ziebart Rust Proofing documentation and pleasingly, its original toolkit and an original spare wheel sitting snugly in their dedicated slots. If you are looking for an extremely honest and useable GT4 then we recommend your early inspection to fully appreciate the opportunity on offer. 1979 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright UK-supplied in right-hand drive, this pretty, Bertone-designed, mid-engined V8 GT4 is in superb order throughout.
