At the 1966 Paris Auto Salon, Ferrari launched the 330 GTS, the successor to the 275 GTS and the open version of the popular 330 GTC coupe. It featured an enlarged 4.0-liter V-12 breathing through three Weber DCZ/6 carburetors, producing a conservatively estimated 300 brake horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 244 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm, delivered through a five-speed transaxle and ZF limited-slip differential. Zero to 60 mph was possible in around 6.0 seconds and the top speed was nearly 150 mph, both incredibly impressive figures for a convertible in the late 1960s. Nimble driving dynamics came from a fully independent suspension comprised of unequal-length wishbones, coil springs, and Koni shock absorbers, plus anti-roll bars at both ends. Four-wheel Girling vented disc brakes sat behind either standard Campagnolo magnesium alloy or optional Borrani wire wheels. The car looked spectacular, thanks to Pininfarina bodywork that drew inspiration from the contemporary 500 Superfast, with its split front bumper, triple-louvered engine vents on each fender, and an elegant swage line along each flank, tying the front end to the rear. The bodywork was mostly steel, aside from the doors, hood, and trunk, which were formed from aluminum. The production process saw bare chassis transported directly from the Ferrari factory at Maranello to Pininfarina’s plant at Grugliasco, outside Turin, where they were fitted with bodywork before being returned to Ferrari for the final mechanical installation. Sublimely detailed, the 330 GTS’s design is widely regarded as one of the most elegant produced by Ferrari during a decade of greatness. The 330 GTS was, of course, limited in production, with only 100 examples produced. They were fiercely desirable when new and have never really fallen out of favor, with collectors still pursuing the finest examples for their stables. 330 GTS NUMBER 9369 This early 330 GTS, chassis 9369, is just the sixth example completed during the model’s production run, and was delivered new to Luigi Chinetti Motors during January 1967. Originally finished in Rosso Cina over Nero Franzi leather, 9369 was nicely equipped with a factory hardtop, Borrani wire wheels, and standard US-market instrumentation. Despite its remarkable, cutting-edge appeal as only the third GTS example delivered to the United States, 9369’s original owner wasted no time enjoying it; by 1975, it had already accrued 20,000 miles! Between 1976 and 1989, this GTS remained on the East Coast between owners in New York and Maryland. It was cosmetically refinished in Rosso Corsa sometime during the early 1980s, and by 1990 its mileage had only increased to 39,000. The car subsequently entered the personal collection of the noted California-based dealer, Fletcher Jones. In November 1994, Jones submitted 9369 to European Collectibles of Costa Mesa, California, for a thorough mechanical restoration which was finally completed by July 1995. During this restoration, the car’s cosmetics were addressed as required, and 9369’s interior was also updated with a factory-style air-conditioning system on account of its new residency in California. When offered by RM Sotheby’s at Monterey during August 2000, 9369 was recorded as having just 40,850 miles on its odometer. Since entering the consignor’s notable collection of European sports and touring cars during 2009, this exciting 330 GTS has been Red Book-certified by Ferrari Classiche as retaining its numbers-matching V-12 engine, body, and gearbox/differential. At the time of acquisition, 9369’s presentation was decidedly not up to the consignor’s extremely high standards, and so nearly $30,000 was lavished to entirely perfect its Rosso Corsa exterior, chrome brightwork, Borrani wire wheels, interior trim, and bodywork between December 2009 and June 2010. In 2020, 9369 benefited from a radiator rebuild, a tune-up of its Weber carburetors, and the sourcing of a complete factory tool kit. The car’s well-documented history and consistently recorded mileage since new all point to its currently indicated reading of nearly 48,550 miles to be its actual and true mileage. With excellent ride comfort and formidable power and handling ability, Ferrari could justifiably claim the 330 GTS to be the world's finest convertible two-seater in its day. Now offered from 17 years of cherished ownership, this magnificent example is a superb addition to the most serious Ferrari collections. 1966 Ferrari 330 GTS by Pininfarina RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1959 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster 1
While the original Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Gullwing” Coupe was exiting stage left in 1957, its successor, the 300 SL Roadster, was debuting at that year’s Geneva Auto Salon. The conversion of the 300 SL to an open car meant redesigning the chassis, which was strengthened significantly to compensate for the loss of the roof structure. Enthusiasts who may have worried about the super-leicht going “soft” had absolutely no cause for concern: Thanks to a fully synchronized gearbox, greatly improved engine mechanicals, new rear axle design, and wide range of final drive selections available to customers, the Roadster remained among the fastest-accelerating automobiles on the road. Furthermore, a redesigned fuel tank and longer rear overhang facilitated enlargement of the trunk space, an ideal dividend for owners interested in extended touring. Many featured in the garages of celebrities, racing drivers, and other successful individuals. With a list price of $11,000, ownership of a 300 SL Roadster was a dream to most, but to those with the funds to spare, the car was worth every penny. This new Mercedes-Benz was of course a revelation upon its debut, but what is remarkable is how this very special machine has continued to fascinate in the six decades that have followed. While driving a 1957 300 SL Roadster on the 2016 edition of the Colorado Grand rally, Motor Trend’s Rory Jurnecka observed, “…it occurs to me on the last morning, climbing into the car, how normal it's become to drive a 300 SL each day. It's not just that the car is essentially a race car underneath its steel and aluminum body. It's not just that the car we're driving is worth somewhere over $1 million in today's market. It's not even that the car was built in 1957 and we're putting several hundred miles on it day after day without feeling much worse for the wear or suffering any breakdowns. It is the combination of those things that is truly amazing.” Offered today from the Dare to Dream Collection, this charming US-market 300 SL Roadster benefits from a complete restoration executed in 2013 by renown marque specialist Rudi Koniczek. This open-air super-leicht is one of only 211 examples of the iconic model produced by Mercedes-Benz during their 1959 model year, and one of only 101 Roadsters from the entire production run which were furnished to customers in this outstanding color of Light Blue (DB 334). In addition to its exceptional color, the car is also presently and desirably equipped with Dunlop disc brakes, 3.64 ratio rear axle, color-matched wheels, a Becker Mexico radio, Talbot mirror, and Baisch-style seat belts. Documentation on file shows that this lovely Roadster was delivered new on 9 August 1959 to Phil Smart Mercedes-Benz of Seattle, Washington. It was reportedly retained within the family of its original owner for the next 54 years; at some point prior to 1998, it was cosmetically restored to a more restrained livery of silver paint over black leather upholstery. In 2011, this Roadster was purchased in a worn, if finely preserved, condition and immediately forwarded to the world-class restoration facilities of renowned marque specialist Rudi Koniczek. During its complete, no-expense-spared restoration, the car’s numbers-matching body and tube frame chassis were separated and stripped to bare metal, so as to uncover and address any hidden condition issues. An exhaustive photo record of Koniczek’s work (on file) illustrates that newly formed steel and aluminum panels were integrated into the car’s original body where required. The car was then repainted to its factory-correct shade of Light Blue, while its sumptuous, ergonomic interior was masterfully retrimmed in pristine red leather (1079) beneath a Dark Blue fabric Roadster top. Koniczek and his team also furnished this Roadster with a complete rebuild of its numbers-matching example of the model’s signature fuel-injected, 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine. Other noteworthy line items from Koniczek’s restoration worklist include the fabrication and fitment of a completely new wiring harness, and factory-correct Dunlop disc brakes. Shortly after emerging completely reborn from Rudi and Company’s premises, this sublime 300 SL Roadster was purchased by the consignor. Within the care of their climate-controlled Dare to Dream Collection, it has played the role of much-admired stablemate to a great number of automotive icons and dream cars. The new 300 SL Roadster was an improvement on the Gullwing in nearly every capacity, at least from a road-going perspective, and it has since evolved into one of Stuttgart’s most collectible models. Better yet, both the closed and open-air variants of the super-leicht enjoy the same robust, close-knit community of active owners across the world. Boasting wonderful performance and reliable enough to be enjoyed daily, the 300 SL Roadster is an enthusiast favorite for vintage rallies, long-distance touring, or even use as a regular driver at one’s summer home. A well-restored example is a requisite in any collection, and this handsome disc brake-equipped example—presented in its factory-correct color, which is rarely seen today—certainly will not disappoint. 1959 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The Carrera Panamericana It’s 1950 and you’re the head of the government body responsible for completing the Mexican stretch of the long-awaited Pan-American Highway – an incredibly proud moment for a country desperate to shake off its ‘old-world’ image. Devised to connect Alaska in the north with Argentina in the south, the ambitious multinational cross-continental road project was quite the feat, both logistically and politically. With post-War prosperity fueling tourism and making the motor car – and thus travel by road – more accessible than ever, Mexico urgently needs traffic on the 2,200-mile stretch of road it has worked so defiantly to build. The solution? A marathon border-to-border road race to make the Mille Miglia and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in Europe look like proverbial walks in the park. Aptly christened the Carrera Panamericana, the fearsome weeklong competition was held five times between 1950 and 1954, attracting the era’s very best drivers from every discipline of motorsport (Formula 1 included!) and firmly establishing itself as the most challenging motor race in the world. In fact, from 1953, the Carrera Panamericana became a fully-fledged round of the FIA World Sportscar Championship (to the chagrin of many competitors, who were forced to start wearing crash helmets as a result!). When worlds collide Much of the charm of the Carrera Panamericana was the kaleidoscopic variety of machinery taking part. With the emerging North American market’s increasing appetite for automotive exports from Europe, thunderous stock saloons from the ‘Big Three’ in Detroit were pitched against comparatively exotic sports cars from Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari. With Grands Prix, Mille Miglia, Targa Florio and Le Mans victories already chalked on its competition record, the Prancing Horse might have been a young company at the turn of the 1950s, but its intentions were clear to everybody. In Europe, at least. North America was a lucrative yet largely untapped market for Ferrari at that time, which explains why Maranello sent two brand new 212 Inters and its star drivers Piero Taruffi and Alberto Ascari to Mexico for the Carrera in 1951. That and the generous government-funded prize pot, no doubt. When the pair crossed the finish line near Ciudad Juárez first and second in front of 200,000 local spectators, clinching the handsome 23,000-dollar purse, Enzo Ferrari was encouraged. He appointed his old friend Luigi Chinetti, the Italo-American Le Mans winner and Taruffi’s invaluable Carrera co-driver, as Ferrari’s North American agent (Chinetti promptly sold both 212 Inters to Mexican drivers straight after the race). And back in Italy, development work began on a new car specifically for the next year’s Carrera Panamericana. The Ferrari 340 Mexico The result was the commanding and aptly named Ferrari 340 Mexico, which, unlike its 2.5-litre Colombo V12-powered predecessor, was fitted with ingegnere Aurelio Lampredi’s 4.1-litre all-alloy long-stroke single-overhead-cam V12, the engine whose roots can be traced to the race-winning 375 Formula 1 monoposto. Designed by a young Giovanni Michelotti for Vignale, the aggressive yet strikingly elegant competition-focused Gran Turismo was beautifully unconventional. Aesthetically in line with the 212 Inter (also a high-waisted pontoon-fender Vignale design), the Mexico melded function-first features such as the bug deflector spanning the entire width of the bonnet and the vertical vents on the doors force-feeding cold air to the rear wheels with generous chrome trim and subtle tail fins no doubt implemented by tickle the Americans’ aesthetic fancy. “The 340 Mexico was designed for one thing: going hour after hour at full-chat on terrible roads, at altitude, in all weather conditions and in the face of all kind of oblivious exotic wildlife.” Beneath the surface, features such as the 150-litre endurance fuel tank, extended fifth gear, quadruple carburettors increasing power to a heady 280bhp (that’s 180mph flat-out, in 1952!), lightened tubular chassis and strengthened rear axle were all implemented with the Carrera Panamericana firmly in mind. In short, the 340 Mexico was designed for one thing: going hour after hour at full-chat on terrible roads, at altitude, in all weather conditions and in the face of all kind of oblivious exotic wildlife. It was designed for one thing: to win the Carrera Panamericana. Chassis no. 0228 AT Ferrari built just four 340 Mexicos for the 1952 Carrera Panamericana: three Berlinettas and one Spyder, all bodied by Vignale. The car we’re honoured to be presenting here is the sole Spyder: chassis number 0228 AT. The only 340 Mexico Spyder built, chassis number 0228 AT enjoys a photo call in Maranello before being shipped to Mexico At almost 250lbs and standing well above six feet, William ‘Bill’ Spear by no means resembled the archetypal 1950s racing driver. But, contrary to his appearance, the wealthy Connecticut privateer was rather a dab hand behind the wheel. In fact, during his five-year foray into the world of international motorsport, Spears scored podium finishes in both the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 12 Hours of Sebring. Five thousand miles away in Modena, Il Commendatore did not care for the stature or weight of Mr. Spear. What he valued was a loyal customer and an excellent ambassador for his brand – especially in the burgeoning North American market. Via Chinetti, Spear acquired his first Ferrari, a 166 MM Touring Barchetta, in December of 1950 and his second, a 340 America Touring Barchetta, not long after. Incidentally, here at Girardo & Co. we had the pleasure of rehoming the 340 America, chassis number 0118 A, late last year. After a factory photo call in Maranello, chassis number 0228 AT was boarded on the same vessel as its scarlet Berlinetta counterparts and set sail across the Atlantic for the start of the 1952 Carrera Panamericana. However, despite the car reaching Mexico and Spear being listed on the entry list, he and his new Ferrari pulled out of the race at the very last minute for reasons unbeknownst to us. This Ferrari was instrumental in clinching William ‘Bill’ Spear the 1953 SCCA National Sports Car Championship Instead, the Ferrari made its competition debut in the opening round of the 1953 Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Championship at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. Once in the United States, Spear chose to finish his new 340 Mexico Spyder in royal blue with a white bonnet and boot lid, just like his 340 America. The six-hour endurance race at MacDill required two drivers so Spear called on Phil Hill, a 26-year-old from the West Coast embarking on a career in motor racing that would see him become the very first American Formula 1 World Champion. Also a keen photographer, Hill’s images captured at this time paint a gloriously candid picture of amateur motor racing in the 1950s, worlds away from the corporate safety-obsessed sport today. The race at MacDill is wonderfully documented in his book Inside Track. Hill and Spear had a tremendous race, crossing the finish line second overall and only narrowly missing out on victory thanks to several broken wheel spokes. “We could have won easily,” he recalls in the book. “I had been lucky to be invited to co-drive by Spear, and lucky to find out I could do it, so it was a real shame. According to Road & Track’s race report, I was doing 140mph on the MacDill backstretch!” The 1961 Formula 1 World Champion Phil Hill raced chassis number 0228 AT in the 1953 SCCA National Sports Car Championship While Spear took delivery of a new Ferrari 340 MM Spyder in the spring, he still tackled the following races at Bergstrom, Pebble Beach, Bridgehampton and Lockbourne with chassis number 0228 AT. And with considerable success – his proven and commandingly powerful Ferrari had proved the car to beat, accruing him two victories and two further podiums. Combined with his stellar results in the 340 MM Spyder, Spear was crowned the 1953 SCCA National Sports Car Champion. As had become customary for Spear, a new year meant a new Ferrari. For 1954 he took delivery of a 375 MM Pinin Farina Spyder and the 340 Mexico Spyder was moved on courtesy of his friend Briggs Cunningham’s Alfredo Momo Corporation. Momo was also Spear’s trusted mechanic. “Retaining its matching-numbers chassis, engine and rear axle, chassis number 0228 AT is a striking, scintillating and unique open ‘big-banger’ 12-cylinder 1950s Ferrari.” The Massachusetts European sports-car concessionaire Preston Gray acquired chassis number 02228 AT in 1955. Painted canary yellow, the car once again contested the fiercely competitive SCCA National Sports Car Championship. That the 340 was still earning podiums in its final competitive races in 1957, five years after it left Maranello, was a testament to its fundamental effectiveness as a race car. It’s also worth noting that this car was featured in both the 1952 and 1955 Ferrari Yearbooks. Preston Gray painted chassis number 0228 AT canary yellow and raced it in the 1955 SCCA National Sports Car Championship Fast-forward to 1987 and this car joined the collection of the Mexican-born Monterey-based Ferrari aficionado Lorenzo H. Zambrano. Zambrano promptly commissioned a ground-up restoration with Steve Tillack & Company in California, with a view to extensively exhibiting chassis 0228 AT throughout the 1990s and into the New Millennium. And exhibit the car he did! Zambrano took the car to Italy for the Mille Miglia Storico. He showed the car at the world-famous Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance thrice, collecting some sought-after silverware along the way. And he raced it at the Annual Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races at Laguna Seca. This Ferrari’s current owner acquired the car in 2011, subsequently commissioning a cosmetic restoration with Brian Hoyt’s Perfect Reflections, the award-winning Californian classic automotive restoration specialist, returning chassis number 0228 AT to the original specification in which it left the factory in October of 1952. Upon completion, this 340 Mexico Spyder made its first – and, to date, only – public appearance at the 2015 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Having only been fleetingly seen in public in recent years, this ultra-special Ferrari is a ticket to the world’s greatest historic motoring events. From prestigious beauty pageants such as the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance to dynamic events such as the Mille Miglia Storico and the Colorado Grand. Retaining its matching-numbers chassis, engine and rear axle, chassis number 0228 AT is a striking, scintillating and unique open ‘big-banger’ 12-cylinder 1950s Ferrari. Furthermore, it was raced by the first American Formula 1 World Champion, Phil Hill, in what was arguably the most golden of eras of American motorsport. 1952 Ferrari 340 Mexico Vignale Spyder Girardo & Co. This Hyena was the 18th example built, finished in red over black, and put into storage upon its completion. It was then sold to its first owner in the UK in April of 2002, where it remained for nearly 20 years. During that time, the car was used sparingly, having been shown at events like the Lancia Centenary Celebration in Turin in 2006 and was written about in marque-specific magazines. In 2021, the car was sold to its second owner, who sent it to Lancia Delta experts Italiamotorsport Parussini of Udine, Italy, who oversaw a comprehensive restoration that included a color change to the Ferrari color Grigio Alloy that you see today. During this restoration, the engine received some modifications, which bumped power from the standard 250 to 320 horsepower through a remap and custom Lancia Delta Group-A Rally-car styled exhaust. The interior is also wrapped in a striking turquoise Alcantara, which harkens back to the Delta HF Integrale “Martini 6” of 1992. Since the car’s completion, it has seen minimal road use and is in overall spectacular condition. There is a possibility this is the only Hyena that has been imported to the United States, and it is certainly one of the best examples anywhere in the world. 1992 Lancia Zagato Hyena ISSIMI, Inc If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo X180 1
In October 1987, the Esprit received its first revamp since its initial launch in 1976 and was given the project codename ‘X180’. This design was the work of Peter Stevens, who was also responsible for the styling of the Lotus Elan M100 and McLaren F1. Whilst it retained the basic creativity behind the original Giorgetto Giugiaro design, it featured rounder, smoother lines, which helped to reduce the drag coefficient to only 0.33. It was, in essence, a restyled bodyshell on an established, proven chassis and displayed ‘Turbo’ badges behind the line where the door shut. At the rear, there was an aerodynamically profiled under tray/spoiler to remove hot air from the engine compartment and cool the brakes. Mechanically, the X180 differed little from its predecessor, the Esprit Turbo HC, with its 2,174cc, 16-valve, double overhead cam, Lotus 910 engine, developing the same 215bhp, and 220ft/lbs of torque. One important change was the gearbox with the Citroen/Maserati 5-speed unit being replaced by that from the Renault Alpine GTA saloon, which provided slightly higher gear ratios. Other improvements, following a redesign of the interior, included increased headroom and legroom, and a wider footwell. With the higher gearing and low drag, it was slightly faster than the HC variant, and with a 0-60mph time of 5.4 seconds and a 0-100mph time of 13.3 seconds, it was actually faster than a Ferrari 328 GTB and Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2. The X180 was a financial success, with 1,058 Esprits being built in 1988, a figure that would never be repeated. The car presented here was built in April 1988 and was originally registered in St Helier, Jersey, where it resided until coming to the UK in 2011. Today, it remains just a two-owner (in total) example and is accompanied by a comprehensive service history which details the gearbox rebuild (at 52,000 miles in 2002) and the replacement of both alloy fuel tanks in 2005. In early 2022, the car was the recipient of over £15,000 worth of mechanical refurbishment, with corresponding invoices/receipts documenting the work carried out (see details below). Prior to this recent work, the car had covered only 6,000 miles since 2011, having been dry stored when not in use. This recent refurbishment included all the following: Upgraded full clutch kit, replacement exhaust manifold, reconditioned Turbo, performance wastegate, Plenum volume extender, upgraded radiator and three-cooling fan conversion, new oil cooler and hydraulic pipes, full silicon hose set, full set of refurbished brake callipers and pads, full carburettor overhaul with new mounts, all new heater hoses, new water pump, powder-coating of engine parts, new battery, new crank pulley, new spark plugs/full service kit, new timing belt/tensioner and ancillary belts installed, air horn, refurbished starter motor and alternator, new battery terminals, new ignition leads, new starter coil, new temperature-sender unit/pipework, new distributor cap, full engine cylinder head overhaul (including valve guides), engine painted, chassis cleaned and Buzzweld-treated, bottom of engine inspected (all bearings good), all electrical glitches sorted, interior cleaned, minor repairs completed and the exterior polished and touched-up These gorgeous Stevens-era Esprits are often overlooked in the world of Supercars, yet have the looks, sound, performance, and rarity of exotics being offered at five times today's guide price. In lovely condition, with 'driver's mileage' and in a very stylish colour combination, this cherished example would undoubtedly enhance the life of any enthusiast or collector alike. 1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo X180 Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra 1
Slotting a Ford V-8 engine into the chassis of an AC Ace proved to be a brilliant idea for Carroll Shelby. The thundering Cobra—rooted in the impressive racing career and boundless grit of its creator—singlehandedly vaulted Ford Motor Company’s corporate racing program onto the international stage and marked a crucial step in its eventual dominance over archrival Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the 1960s. Under Shelby’s leadership, and with the help of a dream team of racing luminaries that included Ken Miles, Phil Remington, Pete Brock, and many others, Ford-powered Cobras won virtually anywhere and everywhere they raced. Brutally fast and dead-reliable, the Cobra clinched the US Manufacturer’s Championship three years running—in 1963, 1964, and 1965—and with sleek Pete Brock-designed Daytona Coupe bodywork, Shelby American Inc. won the hotly contested 1965 FIA World Manufacturer’s Championship. Uncompromising and fiercely aggressive on the racetrack, the 289 Cobra, with its 289-cubic-inch V-8, was an instant icon, yet Shelby knew that to stay competitive, it was essential to continually increase power. Enter Ford’s mighty 427 engine: a big-block monster of almost otherworldly power. Shelby was initially promised a new aluminum-block version of Ford’s 390 FE engine, but corporate infighting at Dearborn left him with an allotment of the heavier cast-iron-block 427. The new Cobra creation debuted at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1964, driven by Ken Miles. While early handling challenges clearly needed addressing, the tremendous performance potential was unmistakable. Shelby’s team then set about creating a chassis capable of handling the 427-cubic-inch behemoth’s increased power and weight. The revised design featured a four-inch tube frame and seven-inch wider body with larger fenders. Using the same computer as on the GT40, Ford engineers crafted a highly sophisticated coil-over suspension, all within the original 90-inch wheelbase. Dubbed the 427 Cobra in a staff meeting on 7 April 1965, Shelby’s big-block beasts were never mass-produced, with just over 300 built. The cars were incomprehensibly fast, and driving one today is as mind-bending of an experience as ever. Built in May of 1966, chassis number CSX 3237 was originally finished in red with a black interior and fitted with a 428-cubic-inch Cobra Jet V-8 engine. The car’s first known owner was J. Rhoades Moore of Enid, Oklahoma, according to the Shelby American Automobile Club Registry. The car remained with Moore until it was sold to another Oklahoma-based owner, French Hickman, in the early 1970s, at which time it was reported to have been refinished in blue. In the 1980s, CSX 3237 was refinished in red and equipped with a handful of updates, including an oil cooler, hood scoop, quick jacks, black side pipes, and custom roll bar. Passing through a few subsequent owners, the car was finally purchased by Phil Combs of California in December of that year. At that time the car was sent to renowned Cobra restorer Mike McCluskey for a full restoration to factory-original specification. Afterwards CSX 3237 was sold to an owner in Japan in the 1990s, where it remained for a few years before returning to the United States. Purchased by noted collector David Fonvielle in the mid-2010s, CSX 3237 was shipped to the renowned Cobra specialists at Curt Vogt’s Cobra Automotive in Wallingford, Connecticut for another full restoration. No expense was spared in bringing this Cobra to brilliant condition, with the goal of not only creating a show winner but also making it ready to drive and enjoy on long-distance tours at a moment’s notice. All original components were rebuilt or upgraded during the restoration, and the car was fitted with proper leather seats, correct Wilton carpeting, the original steering wheel and air splitter, as well as custom exhaust headers. After the engine was rebuilt for high performance and touring, a dyno test showed 460 brake horsepower at the crankshaft. Acquired by the consignor in July of 2021, CSX 3237 has remained incredibly well cared for with very few miles driven under current ownership. It rides on original Sunburst wheels with Avon tires and includes a spare in the trunk. Notably, the car is accompanied by a convertible top with irons, side curtains, tonneau cover, reproduction owner’s manual, jack, grease gun, a can of paint, a spare set of Halibrand-style wheels mounted with tires, and a spare 428-cu.-in. Cobra Jet engine, the block for which has a date code that is correct for this model year of Cobra. A true performance-car icon in every sense, this well-prepared 427 Cobra will surely excel at whatever its next owner has in store, be it long-distance cruising or the concours lawn. 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1959 Jaguar Lister Knobbly
"If I had an hour to live, the last car I would drive is a 1959 Lister Knobbly!" - Chris Harris Lister Knobbly, developed with an oblique eye on the principle of the Jaguar C & D type. The Knobbly got its name from its distinctive curved body, consisting of aluminum panels and a tubular steel chassis. At the time, the car was designed to shoot lightly and aerodynamically through the fresh British air. With a low center of gravity and good weight distribution, you steer through the Goodwood Circuit's tricky curves with perfection. The Knobbly was powered by a range of engines. The Lister with Corvette engine went to America, the Maserati six-cylinder to Italy and Jaguar XK six-cylinder was allowed to stay in England. The most famous Knobbly models were powered by the Jaguar engine, which produced up to 250 horsepower as standard and could propel the car above 250 kilometers per hour. Our impressive Lister Knobbly is officially a recreation. Built from an official chassis. Then the original Lister body assembly was met at Bob Smiths. This was done very expertly, even to the point that Mr. Lister himself has spoken in praise. Sure, we can prove it! In addition, approved with matching FIVA/FEHAC, Historic Technical Passport and homologation. This Lister has a prepared 3.8 liter Jaguar XK engine. Delivers more than 300 horsepower equipped with three double Weber carburetors, dion rear axle with disc brakes against the differential, aluminum radiator and fuel tank, Dunlop racing wheels, Kenlowe cooling fan and electric fuel pump. This Lister has a special past of which we are well aware, Curious? - 1972 Jaguar E-type Series III E-Type Restomod
The Series III Jaguar E-type is already a fine Grand Tourer, but this particular example has been extensively upgraded in order to offer even more performance. It has been finished to an extremely high standard and features numerous modifications to ensure that it handles and drives better than ever. Beneath the long bonnet, the V12 engine has been bored out from 5.3 litres to 6.1 and now features fast-road camshafts from renowned engine specialist Rob Beere Racing. JE pistons have been fitted, along with Cometic head gaskets, Jenvey throttle bodies and an Emerald K6 engine management system. An aluminium flywheel was specified and the big V12 drives through a Getrag five-speed gearbox – a popular upgrade among E-type owners and a big improvement over the standard Jaguar four-speed unit. Ancillaries include a high-torque starter motor and uprated alternator, while maintenance is made easier thanks to the presence of a spin-off oil filter. An alloy radiator and electric fans help to keep everything cool, and the engine is fed via an uprated fuel pump. The sports exhaust system features tubular manifolds and was fabricated by well-respected Scottish specialist Classic Fabs. Not only does it help the engine to breath more efficiently, it ensures that this E-type sounds superb. Gold Fosseway 6 Pot front and 4 pot rear brakes have been fitted, rear, as well as Gaz adjustable dampers. Uprated anti-roll bars are used, while the torsion bars have also been uprated and Polybushes have been employed throughout. The handbrake, meanwhile, is now electrically operated. The E-type runs on 16in centre-laced wire wheels, while the bodywork has been debadged, the front bumpers modified and the overriders deleted, and even the front grille has been altered. Inside, the bespoke cabin featured electrically operated leather seats from the Jaguar XK8, and the E-type Series I dashboard has been fitted with magnolia gauges and flush push-buttons on the centre section in place of the original toggle switches. LED lighting has been used throughout. Everywhere you look, the finish on this Jaguar E-type Series III is superb and it really needs to be seen to be fully appreciated. Now being offered for sale by The Classic Motor Hub, this E-Type Restomod is a unique take on this powerful and stylish British Grand Tourer. 1972 Jaguar E-type Series III E-Type Restomod The Classic Motor Hub If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1967-jaguar-e-type-series-2
The Series 1 E-type 2+2 combines the unmistakable style of Jaguar’s landmark design with the extra practicality of two rear seats, and is a beautifully versatile choice of 1960s sports car. Chassis number 1E 77896 was built on 12 January 1968, as one of the cars that are now unofficially and retrospectively known as the ‘Series 1½’. This means that it retains the overall design of the Series 1 but features some of the upgrades that would also be found on the Series 2, such as the open headlamps and rocker switches on the dashboard rather the earlier toggle switches. It was finished in Opalescent Silver Grey with Dark Blue interior, and was dispatched to Jaguar Cars New York on 22 January. The first owner is recorded as being Peter Satori Leasing, and documents in the car’s history file show that, by 1980, it was owned by Marcia Jacklich in Laguna Beach, California. It was still in California in 2012, and the following year it was imported back to the UK as a project car in need of a full restoration. The new owner then set about returning the E-type to the road, a painstaking process that included converting it to right-hand drive, fitting new floors, plus a new engine frame, wiring harness and fuel tank. The 4.2-litre straight-six engine was fully rebuilt and an uprated alternator was added. Koni dampers have been fitted as part of a complete suspension rebuild, and the braking system benefits from powerful Fosseway four-pot calipers plus vented discs on the front. A Borg Warner T5 five-speed gearbox has been installed and greatly improves the E-type’s cruising ability, and new chromed wire wheels were fitted. The interior has been retrimmed using English leather and Wilton carpets, and features a modern DAB stereo system. Having been resprayed red, this superbly restored and intelligently upgraded E-type 2+2 finally returned to the road in 2019, and is now being offered for sale complete with a Heritage Certificate and a photographic record of its rebuild. 1967 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 The Classic Motor Hub If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright The Series 1 E-type 2+2 combines the unmistakable style of Jaguar’s landmark design with the extra practicality of two rear seats, and is a beautifully versatile choice of 1960s sports car. From its short three-year spell as a fully fledged coachbuilder, carrozzeria Boano produced just 68 “low roof” Ferrari 250 GT Coupés between 1956 and 1957. Among them, chassis number 0661 GT holds a fascinating early history. It was originally delivered in Belgium on 25 April 1957 to Baron de Fierlant Dormer. His association was only brief, for later that year the Ferrari was acquired by racing driver Robert Crevits. He entered the car in a variety of Belgian hillclimb events, notably scoring a hat-trick of GT class wins during the summer of 1960. Months after, Ferrari concessionaire Garage Francorchamps sold chassis 0661 GT to a new owner and then, from 1964, the car was registered in the Netherlands. Following a period in storage, it was freighted to South Africa for restoration prior to being purchased by Stephen Forristall of Houston, Texas. His 13-year custodianship ended in 2000, when the Ferrari was bought by Christopher Rose of California. It was swiftly sent for further restorative work at marque specialist Patrick Ottis Company in Berkeley. Returning to Italy in the early 2000s, chassis 0661 GT was acquired by Pier Angelo Masselli. He added to the motorsport record, contesting rounds of the 2004 Ferrari Maserati Historic Challenge at Vallelunga, Spa-Francorchamps, the Nürburgring, and Monza. Soon landing in Germany, the car sold to keen endurance and Ferrari Challenge racer Andreas Segler of Hannover. Under his care, the 250 GT entered the Ferrari 60th anniversary Concours d’Elegance in Maranello plus the 2008 and 2009 editions of the Mille Miglia. Mr Segler sold the Boano Coupé in June 2010 to compatriot Michael Kalow, who participated in the Mille Miglia in 2011 and 2013. Later that year the car was bought by the vendor, who has enjoyed chassis 0661 GT on the Tour Auto on four occasions in addition to a further Mille Miglia entry. In November 2022, the Ferrari was subject to £16,557 of engine rebuild work overseen by David Morris Race Preparation, with that and other work verified by invoices available to view on file. Certified by Ferrari Classiche in March 2004 and offered with its “Red Book”, this wonderfully storied 250 GT Coupé by Boano was noted in its Classiche inspection to retain its matching-numbers 3.0-litre V-12 engine. Cherished by the consigning owner for 12 years, the Ferrari is further accompanied by a FIVA Identity Card issued in June 2023 and a current TÜV. 1957 Ferrari 250 GT Coupé by Boano RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
