  • 1961 Maserati 3500 GT

The Maserati 3500 GT Enthusiasts of the Trident marque owe an awful lot to the 3500 GT. Before the handsome Gran Turismo was revealed in 1957, Maserati was in quite the financial predicament. In spite of a stellar year of motorsport in which Juan Manuel Fangio had won the Formula 1 World Championship of Drivers with the sensational 250F monoposto, problems were afoot. Political unrest had gripped Argentina, a country in which Maserati’s parent company had heavily invested, and the history-steeped marque’s wealth was drying up, fast. Reluctantly, Maserati withdrew from all its factory motorsport activities. An elegant, luxurious and, more importantly, higher-volume Gran Turismo was seen as the solution to the problem. Designed by chief engineer Giulio Alfieri, the resulting 3500 GT utilised the 3.5-litre twin-spark six-cylinder engine from the dizzyingly beautiful 350S sports-racing prototype, modified with wet-sump lubrication and tuned to be more tractable and refined for road use. The high-waisted bodywork was the work of Touring, which employed its signature Superleggera lightweight construction technique. It’s a graceful yet understated design, which embodies the romance and allure of the classic Italian Gran Turismo. The Maserati 3500 GT drives just as you’d imagine of a 1960s Gran Turismo. There are oodles of torque-laden power from that race-bred straight-six, which encourages you to rev it out. The cabin is a gloriously airy and relaxed place to sit, with that sculpted dash and delicate yet easily legible dials complementing the view ahead over the long and imposing bonnet. “The Touring Superleggera body is a graceful yet understated design, which embodies the romance and allure of the classic Italian Gran Turismo.” It’s a softly sprung car, but you can feel its inherent raciness – ride the wave of power and build up momentum, and you’ll realise the rate at which it travels defies the way it looks. Oh, and the gearbox is a delight, positive and satisfying, with a short throw. As Max likes to say, it’s an ‘A-to-B’ car, designed for dispatching long, cross-continental journeys with aplomb. Chassis number 1550 Born on 1 May 1961, this Maserati 3500 GT was delivered new to the official Maserati concessionaire Cornacchia in Milan, who’d sold the car to its first owner Mario Guardamagna. Chassis number 1550 would remain in its motherland for four decades, during which time it passed through a handful of Italian owners and was awarded its Automotoclub Storico Certificato di Omologazione certificate. As the New Millennium dawned, this Maserati headed across the Atlantic to the state of Illinois. And between 2003 and 2007, chassis number 1550 underwent a fastidious and fully documented nut-and-bolt restoration, carried out by a small number of specialists in Redwood City, California. The owner chose a deep blue for the exterior, a shade in which he’d once seen a Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder and fallen head over heel in love. The body was complemented by a gorgeous cognac leather interior. After patiently waiting for over four years, this Maserati’s custodian was understandably very proud of his gleaming 3500 GT and keen to show it off. Show it off he most certainly did. First up was the prestigious Concorso Italiano in California, where the car won the judges’ hearts and clinched the top gong in the ‘Best Maserati’ class. Subsequent shows at which chassis 1550 was exhibited over the course of the next three years included the Presidio of San Francisco Concours d’Elegance, Carmel Concours on the Avenue and the Hillsborough Concours. Charmed by its beautiful colour combination and outstanding condition, the current British owner acquired this Maserati in 2010 and promptly imported it to – and registered it in – the United Kingdom. The Trident marque itself was clearly similarly taken with this 3500 GT, inviting the car to be exhibited on its stand at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed. In the years since, chassis number 1550 has been carefully stored and seldomly driven. As a result, this Maserati is exceptional condition, both visually and from a mechanical perspective. The 3500 GT is a rare, desperately pretty Italian Gran Turismo coach-built by one of the greatest names in the business – the discerning collector’s alternative to the Aston Martin DB4. And this fabulous example can be counted among the very best of the breed. 1961 Maserati 3500 GT Girardo & Co. Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1980 Ford Capri 3.0 S 1

The Ford Capri made its sensational debut at the 1969 Brussels International Motor Show, although production at the Halewood plant in Liverpool had actually begun two months earlier to ensure that every UK dealer had at least one in its showroom by the time sales started in February 1970. This level of forward production ensured that Ford's brilliant young marketing team were able to leave examples of its new model parked outside prominent buildings and near the entrance to 150 railway stations in the south-east of England. Initial sales exceeded the predicted demand by 100%, mainly because the Capri created an exciting new style of car on this side of the Atlantic. Here, at last, was a sleek, eye-catching 'fastback' that bridged the gap between the traditional two-seater sports car and the family saloon. The Capri concept was made all the more attractive by a remarkably wide choice of engines from a 1.3-litre to the lusty 3.0-litre V6. As exciting as the Mk ll was rational, the Capri Mk lll (1978-1986) was one of the industry's most effective facelifts with a distinctly modern shape, and its improved aerodynamics naturally resulted in better performance and economy. Quad headlights, wrap-around bumpers and a plethora of TV star appearances (particularly Bodie and Doyle in their 3.0S) restored the Capri's 'mojo'. At launch, the existing engine and transmission combinations of the Capri II were carried over and the biggest seller eventually turned out to be the luxurious Ghia, however, the 3.0S was generally regarded amongst enthusiasts as the most desirable. On offer here is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive, 3.0 S on offer from the private collection of marque expert Ric Wood. This was always Ric’s dream car and in 2019 he found this very car worthy enough to join his collection. Finished in gleaming Venetian Red with Carla Check 'fishnet' Recaros, the car has covered just over 26,600 miles since leaving the factory in 1980. Since its purchase, Ric has enhanced the car with XPAC-type upgrades including seven-inch RS alloys, vented discs and a limited slip differential. The engine was stripped, 'blueprinted' and subtly upgraded using his in-house expertise and to finish the job, he has repainted the car externally and underneath. The results are up to show standards and we highly recommend that interested parties view this rather special Capri at Silverstone and see the impressive results for themselves. 1980 Ford Capri 3.0 S Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1975 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 'Daytona' Spider Conversion

This example was supplied new as a RHD coupe by Maranello Concessionaires to Mr W.J.’Billy’ Skelly of Motherwell. With his father running a Ford, Morris and Lea-Francis dealership in Motherwell, and a student upbringing building race specials with help from Norman Dewis and Ken Wharton, he was no stranger to competition. No doubt inspired by his motorsport endeavours, Mr Bealey of Maranello Concessionaires noted Skelly’s request for ‘Bugatti Blue’ on the Daytona to succeed his GTC of the time. ‘Bugatti Blue’ would be granted in the form of Azzurro Dino, with the interior in tan and factory fitted air-conditioning. On a trip to Monaco in June 1973, Billy saw a freshly arrived Daytona in the local Ferrari dealership. Upon his return, he wrote once more to Maranello Concessionaires to request they leave the plastic coverings on the sills as they were prone to damage. He further noted the request for ‘transparent side light glass for the car’ as he was concerned they would look odd in yellow with the car ‘almost Royal blue’ in colour. Mr Skelly retained the Daytona for a year and shortly after that it would end up in the care of Mr Gordon Claridge of Berkhamstead. Claridge was known for his Ferraris, each wearing a cherished registration mark beginning ‘PAR’ and for his unusual colour choices. Claridge had previously owned a 275 GTB/4, new to the UK in Nocciola, a warm metallic caramelised hazelnut shade. With this Daytona still resplendent in its Azzurro Dino hue and now with gold wheels to match the P-Series cars of the time; Claridge would retain the Daytona for 20 years. The Daytona was used as he did all of his Ferraris; on longer trips to his residence in Cornwall. Ensuring each of his cars were kept in fine fettle, the Daytona was exclusively serviced by Maranello Concessionaires during his ownership. He finally sold the car in 1994 with 40,000 miles through Coys of Kensington. The car’s second owner, a prominent Ferrari collector, purchased the Daytona from a Bonhams auction, the catalogue highlighting the Azzurro Dino hue. The car was kept the car within his UK based stable and meticulous servicing continued with Maranello Concessionaires. When the car was sold, once more through a Bonhams auction, the new owner refinished the Daytona in the period shade of Rosso Rubino. This Daytona was purchased by its current custodian in 2001. Shortly after purchase, the 365 was entrusted into the capable hands of Kevin O’Rourke of Mototechnique. Renowned for their work on Ferrari’s of all levels, the Daytona was subjected to a total restoration, and at that time, a conversion to 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spyder configuration. With the car taken down to bare metal, the car was refinished in the iconic Rosso Corsa coachwork it presents with today. Accompanied by a comprehensive history folio, this Daytona spider presents superbly as an eminently usable proposition and is available to view at our showrooms outside London immediately. 1975 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 'Daytona' Spider Conversion D.K. • 1974 Ford Escort 'AVO' MK1 RS 2000

With their Escort doing so well in the world of rallying, it made sense that Ford would try and sell developed versions beyond the usual homologation specials. The job of creating more widely-produced, fast Escorts was left to Ford's new Advanced Vehicle Operations, based in Essex. Following up on the rather complex RS1600 of 1970 came the Mexico and RS2000 which were far more suited to the man in the street. In June 1973, the Mexico was supplanted by the RS2000 and the model fitted nicely into the AVO line up with its performance almost comparable to the RS1600, but with the same reliability and ease of maintenance as the Mexico. Importantly, the RS2000 utilised the same Type-49-body shell as the Mexico and RS1600. The RS2000 was the first Escort to be powered by the overhead cam four-pot, as Ford decided that their 1993cc "Pinto" engine was to be used in the new model. However, Ford faced the problem of persuading the bulky Pinto engine to fit into the engine bay and, the only way of achieving this was to discard the engine-driven cooling fan and replace it with a thermostatically controlled Kenlowe unit. When finally nestled in place, the Pinto engine produced 100bhp and the RS2000 once again proved to be a quick and delightful car to drive, whilst being more accessible to buy and still offering customers a great choice in terms of colours and options. Finished in its original factory hue of Olympic Blue with a grey cloth interior, this fabulous RS2000 is offered fresh from an exacting professional restoration and, with work just completed, it’s clear to see the lengths that have been taken to preserve the original detail with the standard of workmanship being exemplary. No stone has been left unturned with every nut, bolt washer and screw having received attention. The matching-numbers engine and gearbox have been rebuilt by Ridgeway Racing Engines with particular attention to detail as Paul Broadway, the founder of Ridgeway Racing Engines, was the previous custodian having had the Escort in his care for some 27 years. The original Twin 40 DHLA Dell’Orto carbs have been replaced by a pair of 45DCOE Webers on a Simpson stainless-steel manifold with burnt gases exited through a stainless-steel 2.5’’ sports exhaust system. Delve a little deeper and you see the original etched glass still in place, even the original radiator has been retained rather than replaced simply requiring a new core. Similarly, the suspension and braking system have been fully overhauled as required and the car now sits on the correct RS-Ronal 7.5’’x13’’ four-spoke alloys wearing fresh Nankang rubber. The interior has also received the same level of attention with a retrim by Aldridge Trimming and the delicate dashboard veneers carefully refinished. So fresh, in fact, is the build that a period of running-in is strongly recommended to obtain the very best from this spectacular Ford. Your early inspection is welcomed and encouraged to fully appreciate the detail of this RS2000 which is as clean on the underside as it is on top. To find a genuine AVO-built RS2000 is a rare thing, particularly when factory-fitted with the Custom Pack, but to find one in this condition is extraordinary 1974 Ford Escort 'AVO' MK1 RS 2000 Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1984 Ferrari 512 BBi Berlinetta Boxer

The Boxer line represented a remarkable departure for Ferrari. Those who witnessed the debut of Lamborghini’s stunning Miura in 1966 had been anxiously awaiting Ferrari’s response, and the front-engined Daytona, while extremely high performance, could not match the visual or experiential impact of the Miura and later the Countach. The Boxer was Ferrari’s first mid-engined twelve-cylinder road car and was powered by a horizontally-opposed longitudinally-mounted engine sitting atop the transaxle. Clothed in suitably rakish bodywork by Pininfarina, the Boxer was a stunner. The 512 BBi represents the ultimate development of the Boxer line and was distinguished from the 512 BB and 365 models that preceded it by the introduction of fuel injection. Today, the Boxer remains a dramatic and exciting car that offers a tremendous, visceral experience, especially compared to the much more subdued Testarossa which replaced it. This particular example is a beautifully-preserved five-owner car that was imported to the United States new. Its original owner purchased the car through Algar Ferrari and picked it up from the factory in December of 1983, and drove the car around in Europe before importing it. As the 512 was never officially imported to the United States, it was federalized by Amerispec, with the EPA release completed in April of 1984. Federalized as a 49-state car, this 512BBi did not receive California BAR certification during this process. Though the car was officially federalized, it escaped the unsightly additions of side reflectors and impact bumpers that saddled so many gray market cars at the time. The car comes with its original invoice from the factory, which notes that this example was finished in red, but without black Boxer trim, over a black leather interior. There are also photographs of the car at the factory when it was delivered new in December 1983. The first owner kept the car until August of 1989 when its second owner acquired it. He owned the car until December 2005, when its third owner purchased it with 15,539 kilometers. The car has regularly received major services (including belts) in February 2005, May 2007, October 2015, and August 2021. The most recent service also included 12 new injectors, rebuilt CIS fuel distributors and warmup regulators, and new fuel pumps, which, along with the major service, totaled more than $26,500. Overall, this 512BBi presents as a well-preserved unrestored car that is not without flaws but still shows nicely throughout. The body panels are straight, fit, and operate well, while the paint appears to be largely original, with a few small marks that have been touched up over the years. The wheels are in very good shape, as are the spinners, and the tires are correct Michelin TRXs in a unique 240/55 VR415 size. Exterior trim is very nice throughout, as are the lights and glazing. The car has correct Cibié flat front headlamps and Cibié “airport” fog lamps. The overall impression of the car is of an honest, well-cared for low, mileage car that is aging gracefully. The interior also appears to be substantially original, the seats have a nice, even patina with light wear on the driver’s seat back piping, and the various leather-trimmed items, such as the headliner and center console, are all in very good condition. The dashboard benefits from a recent re-covering in original specification black leather and was completed to a very high level, but does not look out of place with the original leather elsewhere in the cabin. The original Ferrari-branded Pioneer head unit, speakers, and equalizer are still in place, and the carpet remains in good condition. The front compartment is also in very nice shape, with the spare cover present, as is the strap for the tool roll, which is affixed, complete, and in excellent shape. The inner fenders are in very nice original condition and show no signs of damage. Under the rear bonnet, the engine compartment is also very clean, in keeping with a well-cared-for largely unrestored car, but does benefit from refinished intake runners and manifolds, and the foam on the underside of the engine lid has also been replaced. This is an outstanding opportunity to acquire a superb late-production example of one of Ferrari’s most important models. It is worth noting that BBi is noticeably faster than the Testarossa that replaced it, in addition to being arguably better looking and rarer. One thing that’s for sure is that the driving experience is wildly different from a Testarossa. While the Testarossa is civilized and nearly easy to drive, being most in its element as a comfortable long-distance tourer, the Boxer has an intense and hard edge that makes it much closer to the beastly character of a Countach or Miura. As a flagship Ferrari, it stands alone in that respect, and it demands a level of finesse from the driver that gives it a lot of appeal for the experienced driver. This particular car has had just four owners, known history from new, and was federalized in an unobtrusive manner. Furthermore, it is very complete, beautifully preserved, well-documented, and has been fastidiously maintained, making this the ideal Boxer to get in and enjoy one of the greatest mid-engine 12-cylinder Ferrari driving experiences. 1984 Ferrari 512 BBi Berlinetta Boxer ISSIMI, Inc If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1967 Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior

Some of the greatest cars were products of their environment, and nowhere is that truer than with Alfa Romeo’s replacement for the outgoing Giulietta Sprint. A punitive tax regime in Italy meant that only those of comfortable means could afford to run larger-capacity cars, opening the door for a number of frugal, fizzing sportscars with smaller engines. Leading the charge was the Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior. The Junior shared its traffic-stopping Giorgetto Giugiaro-penned styling with its more powerful 1.6-litre sibling, but beneath the bonnet lay the latest iteration of the firm’s lauded 1,290-cc twin-cam four-cylinder engine—a tried and tested powerplant that punched well above its weight. Cheaper to tax, the rev-happy sportscar had a character entirely its own, and what it lacked in straight-line speed it more than made up for in handling and driver involvement. The GT Junior would become the most popular version of the 105-Series coupé produced, with more than 90,000 being built between 1965 and 1977. This earlier example was first registered in Napoli, Italy on 20 May 1967. It is finished in green over a two-tone tan interior and features both the highly desirable “Scalino”—or step-nose—bonnet and the more attractive flat-top dashboard. The Alfa Romeo is presented in unrestored condition with an attractive patina and untouched interior and is accompanied by a period document pouch from what is presumed to be the supplying dealer, Commissionar’o Accapi, Napoli, in addition to a user manual, an Alfa Romeo service centre guide, an ACI manual, and a tool roll. Well-preserved and with a lengthy history in the Napoli area, this genuine step-nose 1300 GT Junior would make the ideal classic for cars and coffee events and spirited Sunday drives. 1967 Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. Named after Iso company boss Renzo Rivolta, the IR 300 GT was brought to fruition by two of the most influential Italians to ply their trade in the automotive industry. Engineered by Giotto Bizzarrini (of Ferrari and Lamborghini V-12 fame) and penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro during his stint at Bertone, the svelte 2+2 coupé boasted a 5.4-litre Chevrolet V-8 engine. Per the Iso Registry, the IR 300 GT Coupé offered here was originally specified with an automatic transmission and air conditioning. Holding a 12 September 1967 build date, it was delivered new to the United States. Although a complete history is not known, the Rivolta was purchased as a restoration project from the US by the German consigning owner in 2017. The rebuild was reportedly carried out by mechanical specialist Top Motors Salvioli of Nonantola in the Italian province of Modena, upholstery expert Interni Auto of Ferrara, and Carrozzeria Biondy & Parini in Gatteo. Accordingly, the Iso now presents in an elegant dark blue hue over an interior featuring terracotta hide and a wood panel dashboard. Blending a sporting chassis with reliable American V-8 power, and with room for four occupants, this Rivolta IR 300 GT Coupé would make for a wonderful grand tourer. 1968 Iso Rivolta IR 300 GT Coupé by Bertone RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1964 Aston Martin DB5 2

Presented in stunning condition throughout, this exceptional DB5 has been the subject of extensive restoration work in recent years. Chassis number DB5/1786 was delivered in October 1964 as a right hand drive UK market car, finished in Sierra Blue and sold via the dealer HW Motors (K.N. Rudd) to its first owner, a Mr D.F. Albert of Hastings, East Sussex. Service records show that he was an enthusiastic owner covering some 25k miles by 1969, until selling to the second owner, another Hastings resident E.A. Parkinson in 1973. A garage owner, who had always wanted a DB5, ‘Ted’ Parkinson was its proud owner for the next 45 years! When the present owner bought the car it was apparent that it had been cherished and well maintained all its life, the decision was made to invest a great deal of money with marque specialists Aston Engineering enabling it to be enjoyed with trouble free motoring for many more decades. Not only cosmetic work that included a full repaint in the very attractive original colour, there was also extensive work carried out underneath and mechanically. The interior has a wonderful feeling of old world charm, beautifully supple old leather that new hides simply can’t match for character. Very well set up for touring, smooth effortless power delivered through the ZF gearbox and rolling on a desirable set of Borrani wire wheels, including the spare. This low mileage, highly original (still has the numbered keys) matching numbers DB5 with only 2 owners since 1973 in a stunning colour combination is a very desirable proposition. 1964 Aston Martin DB5 Will Stone Historic Cars Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1979 Ford Escort RS 2000

A genuine Mk2 RS2000 Escort from long term ownership, superbly prepared to a 'Group 4' specification and offered at a very attractive guide. The Mk1 Escort RS2000 had proven to be a huge hit, especially in the UK and showed the potential of the idea, so Ford took the Mk2 RS2000 up market, positioning it as the performance car every young professional needed. A new deformable polyurethane nose transformed its look and gave it a distinctive, more glamorous, identity but it was practical as well, reducing drag from a CD of 0.444 to 0.386. Announced at the 1975 Geneva Motor Show, the RS2000 became the best-selling RS Escort ever made, with over 23,000 being produced at Ford's Saarlouis plant in Germany before production ceased in July 1980. On offer here is a genuine1979 Ford Escort RS2000 which spent its early years on the road before being purchased by its current owner in 2005, with the intention of recreating a fully prepared 'Group 4' RS2000. Maylum Motorsports of Kent were tasked with building the car to our vendor's specification and naturally the Ford was fully stripped and the appropriate body panels were replaced with X-Pack panels from Ex-Pressed Panels of Keighley. It was fitted with an Atlas rear axle and a limited-slip 'motorsport' differential with 4:6 crown wheel and pinion, 'Group 4' half shafts, 'Group 4' hubs front and rear with 4-pot callipers accompanied by mechanical and hydraulic handbrake and discs. Braided brake and fuel lines have been fitted internally throughout with a bias pedal box and dash mounted brake balance adjustment along with front and rear coil-over suspension which have adjustable TCA and adjustable compression struts to the front and four link and a panhandle rod kit to the rear. Motivation is provided by a 2-litre Ford Zetec with a Rick Wood-built head, Wossner pistons, steel rods, and a 'Motorsport' crank, fuelled by 45mm tapered Jenvey throttle bodies and managed by an Omex 600ECU. The engine is dry-sumped (Titan) with a 2.5-gallon boot-mounted oil tank and is fitted with a steel flywheel, HD clutch, hydraulic clutch cylinder and an RS2000 aluminium bellhousing. The engine was run in and set up on a dyno by Rick Wood, producing a documented 296bhp @ 6,400rpm, however the camshafts were designed to produce peak power at 7,500rpm so there is more scope yet. The gearbox is a Type 9 5-speed with Quaife straight-cut internals coupled to the rear axle with a Rally Design one-piece prop. Other specification details include a 'Group 4' 8mm ally sump guard, 12-gallon ally fuel tank with separate swirl pot and primary and secondary fuel pumps with an inline fuel filter, electric power steering, a Varley 'red top' battery and an Armtech hybrid battery isolator. The cockpit is a basic competition car but is well prepared with checker-plate floors, internal fuses, Sparco circuit race bucket seats with roll-cage mounted 5-point TRS harnesses and a Lifeline 3-litre plumbed-in fire extinguisher. Now finished in Signal Yellow with 'Blue Oval' graphics, the RS looks 'the business' sitting on X5 13" Minilites with 205 x 60 x 13 road tyres. On offer from 15 years ownership, this project has obviously been a 'labour of love' and the fit and finish are exceptional. We invite and encourage interested parties to come along to Race Retro and see just what can be achieved when you put your mind to it. 1979 Ford Escort RS 2000 Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
