- 1965 Aston Martin DB5 Vantage
The appearance of Aston Martin’s suave and Touring-styled DB5 in the 1964 film Goldfinger very nearly outshone Sean Connery’s James Bond as the star turn in the 007 blockbuster. While the film was released around halfway into the lifespan of the DB5, which was built between 1963 and 1965, the warming glow of showbiz glamour was immediate. The DB5 became a near-instant symbol of chic and cool thanks to its portrayal as a gadget-laden sports car fit for a spy. Just before the DB5 was propelled into film folklore and thus into the consciousness of fans young and old, Aston Martin improved on its already impressive design with the DB5 Vantage. Introduced in 1964, the DB5 Vantage catered for customers who desired greater performance from the standard 4.0-litre engine that offered 282 horsepower and a top speed of 227 km/h. Retaining the same displacement as the regular DB5’s powertrain, Vantage engines featured revised camshaft profiles and three Weber carburettors, offering greater top-end performance and a claimed output of 325 horsepower. The 0 to 100 km/h time was slashed to a blisteringly fast six seconds. It is thought that around 70 Vantage-engined DB5s were built before the DB6 was introduced, with only 17 of those made in left-hand-drive configuration—including the example offered here. As confirmed by a copy of the original purchase invoice that can be viewed in this car’s history file, chassis number DB5/2228/L was destined for Germany. It had been ordered by one Captain Panos A. Tsargaris, based in Hamburg. The car was completed by the factory on 8 July 1965 and finished in Silver Birch over a Dark Blue interior, a factory-correct colour configuration it wears today. The Aston Martin was specified with a build list featuring many desirable options including Normalair air conditioning, a Blaupunkt Koln TR radio, chrome wheels with three-ear hub caps—and of course, the high-performance Vantage engine. The original purchase invoice goes on to list warranty work performed up to the middle of 1966. In the decades that followed, the DB5 was maintained by Emil Frey Classics, as the car was retained in Switzerland prior to coming into Kuwaiti ownership. It is thought that at some point in the 1990s, the factory-fitted Vantage engine was largely overhauled and the car was fitted with a re-stamped block. In 2017, the DB5 was entrusted to Aston Martin Works, the factory-backed heritage restoration department based in Newport Pagnell, for restoration work. As can be seen by photographs of the car undergoing the extensive overhaul (available to view in the history file), the car was presented then wearing a navy blue exterior over a tan leather interior. Aston Martin Works rebuilt the DB5 over the next four years, stripping the car to a bare chassis prior to an extensive rebuild and respray in its original factory-correct colour, further to revisiting the earlier restoration of the engine. With costs exceeding £400,000, the restoration will be completed by the provision of a new “continuation” engine, which will be supplied post-sale by Aston Martin Works and delivered boxed. Lovingly restored by Aston Martin Works’ own craftsmen, and once again appearing in its original shade of Silver Birch, this DB5 presents a wonderful opportunity to acquire a carefully prepared example of one of the greatest cars to ever appear on the silver screen. 1965 Aston Martin DB5 Vantage RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1995 Ferrari F355 GT Challenge
This 1995 Ferrari F355 GT Challenge has some of the most impressive race history of any F355 competition car, with its original owner being former Ferrari Formula 1 driver Arturo Merzario. With a career that started as a Fiat-Abarth test driver, Merzario was picked up by the Ferrari sportscar team in 1970, where he went on to win both the Spa 1000km and Targa Florio in 1972. That same year, he debuted on the Ferrari Formula 1 team, where he scored 6th on his first outing at the British Grand Prix. His Formula 1 career continued through 1979, scoring a total of 11 championship points and having the distinction of being one of the drivers who stopped to save Nikki Lauda after his infamous crash during the 1976 German Grand Prix. Given these numerous accolades, it is no surprise that this car has participated in some significant races, including the 1997 1000 km at Monza, the 1997 Misano 12 Hours, and the 2000 Italian GT at Vallelunga, where it placed 2nd overall and first in the GT3 class. Marzario continued campaigning this car through 2004 - largely in Italian events, and placed quite respectably given the age of the vehicle. It is believed that this car was prepared by Master Cars S.R.L in Italy. and was altered from the standard Challenge look due to the more serious endurance racing it was to undertake. Where most Challenge cars retained the standard silhouette of the F355 road car – just with the addition of a rear wing– this car received updates in the form of plexiglass headlight covers in place of the original pop-up lights, as well as a vent on the roof for additional cabin cooling. The F355 Challenge’s signature 5-spoke Speedline wheels are retained and sit in front of a set of F40 Brembo brakes. A quick fueling system was fitted behind the passenger side door, and a free-flowing exhaust system was fitted, which sounds fantastic. Although this car has race car features like Lexan windows and a roll cage, it is road registered and can be used on the street. The interior is largely stripped out, but it retains some bits from the original F355, including the dash and upper center console. Outside of that, though, nearly everything has been removed, including the carpet, door cards, and headlining. In its place, there is a 6-point roll cage, a pair of red OMP racing seats with Sparco harnesses, and a host of switches to operate the vehicle. Fitted with a full fire suppression system, the extinguisher bottle sits between the two front seats and is activated by a switch behind the gated shifter. One look at the interior and it is clear that this is not a car for the causal enthusiast to do a long distance trip in, but it is the perfect vehicle for someone who wants tremendous excitement on a morning in the canyons or a car to drive to and from a track day. Powering this F355 is the standard 3.5-liter V8, which as far as we know, has not been changed dramatically from standard. It is believed that higher flowing air intakes have been installed, and the exhaust is an unmuffled racing unit, but beyond that, the idea behind these cars was to keep the mechanicals standard in an effort to make racing them more cost-effective. Power is sent through a 6-speed manual gearbox with a gated shifter to the rear wheels. Although the performance is unknown, considering the significant weight advantage over a standard F355, this car is without a doubt quite rapid and makes a wonderful noise. This F355 is not a car for everybody, but it is a hugely special vehicle for the enthusiast who wants what is realistically the final model in a long line of road-registerable Ferrari competition cars. When you combine that with the famous original owner who used this car in his later years with great success on track, it truly stands out as one of the most unique F355s of all time. 1995 Ferrari F355 GT Challenge ISSIMI, Inc If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. Frequently the Aston Martin DB5 is called “the most famous car in the world” which of course is based on its ultra-flamboyant appearance in most James Bond flicks. The legendary 007 connection is only half the truth though! DB5s are actually fantastic GTs to drive and their elegant yet purposeful Touring of Milan designed coachwork truly a timeless legend in their own right. With its 4 litre Tarek Marek designed all aluminium inline-6 engine, delivering 263 hp from its four-litre capacity and driving the rear wheels through a ZF 5-speed gearbox, the DB5 was one of the fastest (let alone the most expensive) British GT available at the time. The car we are proud to offer is a right-hand drive example built in 1964 and registered for the first time in Scotland in April 1965. Although lacking all the secret agent’s gadgets, the Aston DB5 was cherished and lovingly maintained throughout its life. After some major mechanical work in 1989/90 an engine overhaul was performed by well-known Aston specialists Ian Mason Ltd who subsequently also took care of the regular maintenance of the car. In 2009 the DB5 was taken over by its last registered owner. Then still painted in “Sherwood green” with a light tan leather interior, the coachwork and interior were restored some years ago and changed to the actual and very elegant combination of “Silver Birch” (an original DB5 colour) with dark red leather. Since October 2022 the car has been in the vendor’s ownership and was driven only sparingly. The Aston is in very good and lovingly cared for condition, and, with English documents, has so far not been cleared through Swiss customs. For a Swiss buyer the Aston will be properly imported into Switzerland and delivered with a fresh MOT. ADDENDUM A review of the vehicle documents showed that in the engine and gearbox overhaul was carried out by Ian Mason in 2001, about 20’000 Miles ago. The body restoration including the new paint was proceeded in April 2013, followed by a rust protection treatment of all cavities in August of the same year. Actually, the car comes with German paperwork, Swiss duty not paid. As stated in the catalogue, for Swiss buyers it will be sold with Swiss duty paid and a fresh Swiss MOT. 1964 Aston Martin DB5 Oldtimer Galerie International GmbH If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1996 Ferrari F50
For Ferrari’s 40th anniversary in 1987, they wanted to produce a special, limited-run car to commemorate the occasion. Known as the F40, it set the car world on fire upon its release- an unbelievably aggressive design created through the extensive use of carbon fiber and paired with a powerful 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 made the F40 the fastest car on sale. Journalists and enthusiasts who were lucky enough to get behind the wheel of the F40 couldn’t get enough of the thrilling driving experience and it instantly became an automotive icon. Once F40 production ended in 1992, Ferrari needed to get to work on their next limited edition supercar for their upcoming 50th anniversary celebration. They didn’t want to just rehash the F40- their new car, known as the F50, needed to be completely different. At its core, the F40 was a rather primitive car, based around a tubular steel chassis, carbon kevlar was present to help with rigidity while keeping the weight down. For their follow-up, Ferrari knew they wanted to show off their technical prowess- utilizing their first all carbon fiber tub, the vehicle was both stronger and lighter than an F40 and the exterior design was based off the 1989 Mythos concept car but refined for road use and with some added Formula 1 design elements. To keep with the F1 theme, Ferrari elected to fit their new car with a naturally aspirated V12 which had ties to the engine used in their 1990 Formula 1 car. Displacement was increased to 4.7-liters and the stratospheric redline in the race car was reduced to keep the engine reliable, but it was still capable of producing 512 horsepower at 8,000RPM and was enough to push the F50 over 200 miles per hour. This engine sent power through a 6-speed manual transaxle at the rear-making this the final halo vehicle to come out of Maranello with 3 pedals. Another unique race-inspired feature of the F50 was that the engine and gearbox were used as stressed members of the chassis. With no rear subframe assembly, the engine is bolted directly into the rear bulkhead and the transaxle behind it has the rear inboard suspension affixed to the top of it. This design feature makes the F50 feel like a competition car and gives the occupants an exceptionally visceral experience. The interior of the F50s features large swaths of exposed carbon chassis and a pair of heavily bolstered bucket seats, upholstered in leather with textile centers matched to the exterior color . Upon its debut, Ferrari announced it would only produce 349 F50s or “one less than we think we can sell”. After their F40 production number debacle, this time, they truly did stick to that number-making it one of the rarest modern Ferraris. This 1996 Ferrari F50 is car number 197 out of the 349 built and was delivered new on October 16th, 1996. Sold through dealer and exporter LIGHTSPEED S.R.L., the car was sent to Japan where it was registered by Katougumidoken Ltd.- a local property development and building company. During this time, the ownership of the car changed numerous times but all to trusted people within the company before the car was acquired by Aplus Finance-the company’s creditor, in 2005. The F50 remained in Japan under three fastidious owners before being sold to Switzerland in 2014. Prior to its sale, one of the Japanese owners put the car through Ferrari Classiche certification at the Japanese Ferrari dealership Cornes, which also handled all of the servicing and a gauge cluster replacement in January 2014. Upon showing up in Switzerland, the car showed just 13,200 km and was still in excellent overall condition. In March 2021, the car was sold out of Switzerland and into the United States-the previous owner had used the car sparingly, now showing a total of 13,500 km. When the car landed in the US, it underwent a comprehensive service- having not been serviced for some time, a full service was performed which included inspecting valve lash, resealing cam covers, and a full fluid replacement to make sure it was in top running condition for the new owner. At the same time, the fuel bladder was replaced as it was nearing the end of its service life and an alignment was performed and new tires installed. This service spanned more than 3 months and ended up with a bill of over $58,000, but now this F50 is ready to be driven and enjoyed with just 50 miles added since its completion. Ferrari has hinted that they will not produce any more manual transmissions and with ever-increasing regulations surrounding fuel economy and emissions, the naturally aspirated V12 will likely be disappearing soon as well. This means that the F50 will stand forever as a high point for Ferrari- a supercar with Formula 1 technology, a removable roof and one of the most melodious engines ever. Included with the sale of the car is the original owners manuals, service records, Ferrari Certificate of Authenticity, small in car tool kit and the F50 flight case built to store the hard top and roll bars. 1996 Ferrari F50 ISSIMI, Inc If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1967 Shelby GT350 Fastback
The most intriguing feature of Shelby’s new-for-1967 Mustang styling was a pair of red marker lights mounted in scoops along the top of the rear sail panels. These lights were quickly ruled illegal in numerous states, though not before 200 or so Mustangs had been shipped from Shelby American’s Los Angeles factory. These so-called “upper scoop light” cars thus represent the earliest and most distinctive LA-built versions of Carroll Shelby’s highly coveted GT350—complete with their telltale features as Shelby originally intended. Delivered new to Lynch-Davidson Ford of Jacksonville, Florida on 12 December 1966, this exceptionally early, correct, and well-documented example of an “upper scoop light” GT350 Fastback is presented today in factory-correct Dark Moss Green over black vinyl. A copy of its original Shelby sales order shows that it has always been equipped with the host of desirable options still present today. These include power steering, power disc brakes, shoulder harnesses, push-button AM radio, 15-inch Kelsey-Hayes deluxe “mag star” wheels, the extra cooling package, and a four-speed “top loader” manual transmission paired with the signature Hi-Po 289-cubic-inch V-8 engine. This car is just the 12th GT350 produced for the model year, and in addition to the scoop lights, it exhibits a host of other important “as delivered” features that are distinct—and exclusive to—these very early ’67 Mustangs. At the front—just aft of the steel-framed fiberglass hood—the car’s one-piece grill is a pair of inboard high-beam lights, while the model’s signature flat gas cap bisects the rear fascia. Inside, the correct six-point roll bar is tucked behind the front seats, and the car’s set of 15-inch “mag star” wheels are shod in Goodyear Speedway 350 tires with 1¼-in lettering, befitting an early 1967 appearance. Tasteful improvements made by previous owners are limited to the white Le Mans-style stripes, and a Carroll Shelby-signed glovebox door. Sympathetically restored to original specifications under previous ownership, the car’s impressive history file demonstrates known provenance from new, alongside a comprehensive suite of Shelby American documentation. Amazingly, GT350 number 12 remains remarkably correct throughout and exhibits an astounding amount of original sheet metal, no doubt thanks to a comprehensive Ziebart undercoating, which it received quite early in its life, and subsequently being kept 13 years in dry storage. Now offered for the first time ever at auction, this incredibly early and well-documented GT350 Fastback is surely among the finest examples of its rarified breed. Having been previously restored with an extraordinary attention to detail, the fact that it comes supplied with a trove of important Shelby American documentation and is still powered by its numbers-matching engine are both tremendous supplements to its already-considerable allure. 1967 Shelby GT350 Fastback RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1989 BMW Z1
With only 8000 being built, and most of those being sold new in Germany, any BMW Z1 is a rare car in the UK, but this car has a particularly fascinating history. It was originally delivered to Japanese tuning specialist Tommykaira. The Kyoto-based company was the official Hartge agent for Japan, and it’s thought that it carried out at least a partial Hartge upgrade on this Z1. These modifications were available as a complete package or as individual elements, and included the option of an engine upgrade that lengthened the stroke, increasing capacity to 2693cc. Along with a higher compression ratio and changes to the Bosch Motronic management system, that helped to boost power from 170bhp to 205bhp. Owners could also specify larger wheels and tyres, bigger front brake discs, a different final-drive ratio and sports suspension as part of the Hartge upgrades. This Z1 was sold in 1997 by a Kyoto-based specialist to Yosuke Yamamoto, and he brought it with him when he moved to the UK the following year. Shortly afterwards, Yamamoto went right through the car, retrimming the interior in grey leather and red nubuck, overhauling the running gear, replacing the soft-top, and repainting the front bumper. He sold the Z1 when he returned to Japan in 2009, by which time the car still had less than 50,000km on the clock. It stayed in the UK and in 2013 was sold to a BMW enthusiast who stored it for three years, before deciding to have it recommissioned by Z1 specialist Ivor Dadswell. What started out as some light work turned into a 12-month process, during which Dadswell went right through the car. Most body panels were removed, along with the seats and most of the trim, and the red nubuck was renewed. All wheelarch liners were replaced, the mechanism for the famous door actuation was overhauled, and the owner managed to source an original set of Hartge alloys, which were refurbished and fitted to the car. The Z1 was subsequently dyno’d at 176bhp, which certainly suggests that it received at least some Hartge engine upgrades, given that the standard power output when new was only 170bhp. This stylish, distinctive roadster has been used sparingly over the past few years, and fastidiously maintained along the way. It was given a full service in July 2024, which included four-wheel alignment, and is now being offered for sale as a rare example of one of BMW’s most memorable modern classics. 1989 BMW Z1 The Classic Motor Hub If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. This example was supplied new to its first keeper on 3rd April 1990 by Motor s.p.a of Bologna. As a 1990 example, this F40 is desirably a non-cat, non-adjust example of the Ferrari’s iconic poster car. This example was sold to renowned Italian Ferrari collector and Claudio Caggiati with whom it resided until 2013. An avid fan of 50s Ferraris, Caggiati notably campaigned his 500 TRC in the Mille Miglia every year between 1993 and 2014, 21 sequential entries! The F40 saw infrequent use and was sold in 2013. Imported into the UK in 2013 by Ferrari dealership Dick Lovett of Swindon, the F40 at this time had covered just 4,400 kilometres at which point the car received its Ferrari red book Classiche certification. Joining a significant collection of cars, the F40 again saw limited use, was placed into storage and sold five years later. In 2018 the F40 travelled to the sunnier and salt-free climes of Australia, imported by Scuderia Graziani of New South Wales. It found ownership in Brisbane where its custodian ensured diligent servicing by Ferrari Brisbane. The most recent owner purchased the F40 in 2020, returning the car to the UK at that time a couple of years later. Residing within our storage facility, the exacting and meticulous current owner requested DK replace all rubbers, hoses, gaskets and seals as a part of a major service as the car had spent much time stationary during its life. As such In 2023, the car passed through our workshops where it received a full mechanical overhaul including the removal of the engine and a subsequently it was decided that a full rebuild be executed, alongside the replacement of its fuel cells, lines and of course cambelts. In August 2024, this example further received an annual service and new clutch release bearing. Residing within our storage facility since, this wonderful example of a non-cat, non-adjust F40 presents superbly ticking many of the must tick boxes for an F40 including body numbers and weave; with just 6,036 km from new it is available to view at our showrooms outside London immediately. 1989 Ferrari F40 D.K. - 1985 Ford Escort RS Turbo Series 1
The Escort RS Turbo Series 1 was specifically developed by Ford’s Special Vehicle Engineering team to set new standards in Group N and Group A motorsport events, and was quickly dubbed ‘the car to beat’. Ford initially planned to build 5,000 examples, the minimum number required for Homologation in Group A, however, a total of 8,604 were built due to increased demand. Only available in Diamond White, the car was greeted with huge enthusiasm and was only sold through official Rallye Sport dealers. The engine utilised was a 1600 CVH unit modified to suit the higher loads and the application of a turbocharger, whilst also benefiting from computerised fuel injection and engine management incorporating boost control, producing a healthy 132bhp. It was the first front-wheel drive road car in the world to use a compact viscous-coupling design LSD instead of a normal mechanical LSD, which greatly improved cornering and drivability. Aesthetically, the RS Turbo's distinctive sporty appearance was enhanced with a body-coloured front grille, bumpers and aerodynamic aids. The interior was trimmed in a combination of Monza and Cashmere fabrics and Recaro LS bucket seats were fitted as standard. On offer here is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive example that on offer from a significant private collection of Fast Fords. The odometer shows just 32,962 miles and the car presents nicely overall, indeed, the vendor describes it as "an honest usable car that’s one for the enthusiast to use and enjoy". Offered with a UK V5C, its history file and a fresh MOT in time for the sale, this smart example appears to offer superb value and we encourage all interested parties to come and see the car for themselves at the NEC. With Sierras, Escorts and now the inevitable Focus all seeing substantial increases in value in recent years, the market for Performance Fords from this period never seems to cool down, This lovely example would be equally at home within any collection of nostalgic 80s 'rocket-ships' or being driven and enjoyed as all sporting cars should be. 1985 Ford Escort RS Turbo Series 1 Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
