- 1988 Porsche 944 Turbo Cup 4
In 1986, Germany introduced the Porsche 944 Turbo Cup series to the world, a one-model championship that put the 944 in the spotlight. Two years later, in 1988, Porsche Canada’s manager and former racing driver David Deacon brought the series to Canada and after securing sponsorships from some of the biggest names in motorsport, named it the Rothmans Porsche Turbo Cup. Apart from a healthy purse for the series winners, the season champion won a seat in a Rothmans-backed 962C at the next year’s running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The races eventually spread overseas to countries like France but remained extremely popular in Canada. The “Turbo Cup” cars, as they came to be called, were 944 Turbo models built by the Weissach factory specifically to race in the Cup Series. These racers weighed around 600 lbs less than a regular 944 Turbo and came equipped with numerous performance enhancements such as magnesium wheels, intake, and oil sump, a smaller and lighter alternator, bespoke brakes, and Bilstein suspension. The inside featured a steel roll car along with a Recaro racing seat and the absence of any convenience features like air conditioning. The 2.5L inline 4-cylinder engine got a larger output turbocharger, sending 250 HP and 272 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle with a limited-slip differential and close-ratio 5th gear. Only 39 examples were ever produced by Porsche over the series’ three-year lifespan, making the 944 Turbo Cup one of the rarest Porsches one could own. This particular example, Chassis # WP0AA0950JN165096, is a low-mileage 944 Turbo Cup with only 10,099 km (6275 miles) on the odometer and a single private owner. On top of multiple podium finishes throughout its history, this pedigreed racer was driven by famed driver Ron Fellows in the 1990 Series to an 8th Overall finish and still proudly wears that same livery. Just before the last race of the 1990 series, the engine was reportedly rebuilt by Ron Fellows team and still has the Porsche stamped lead clamps adorning the engine. Following the end of the series, this Porsche was purchased by the second owner in 1990, who removed the magnesium oil pan to keep it safe (The rare magnesium oil pan is included with the sale of the car). The car is all original from the rear quarters forward, including the hood, windshield, and other glass. Despite being involved in a rear-end collision with Ron at the wheel during the 1990 season, the accident damage was repaired properly, leaving the car in the proper spec and condition. This rare Turbo Cup will need some normal timeout and safety items addressed before it is ready to hit the track again but it runs and drives without an issue as it is. These Weissach factory-built Porsche race cars are few and far between, making examples at this price point with such low mileage and exceptional history, an absolute must-have for both Porsche collectors and race enthusiasts alike. Given their pedigree, they are eligible for HSR, PCA Club Races, and more while also perfectly gracing the lawn of any Porsche-specific Concours event. Upon purchase, the new owner will receive a copy of the logbook, numerous spare parts, including a seat, suspension components, the original steering wheel utilized by Ron Fellows, a 944 Turbo Cup transmission, the original magnesium oil pan, and more, along with period photos featuring this 944 Turbo Cup in its glory days. EXTERIOR Body And Paint The body of this example is very straight overall, free from any obvious dents or big dings, and all of the shut gaps are very good for a race car. All of the graphics are applied in the correct places and look very nice with minimal sun fading. The painted hood graphic is original from the last Rothmans Turbo Cup race it was in, as is the original turbo cup-specific fiberglass hood. The car was originally red. There is evidence of green in some areas from when it was painted in the Fuji Film livery during the 1988 season prior to its current livery. The paint is nice and consistent throughout, and the stickers are applied with care. Overall, the car is very presentable cosmetically, especially considering it is a race car. We believe the process graphics sticker on the roof is original, as are the stickers on the windshield. The windshield appears to be original as well, with factory stickers still applied to it. As seen in footage of the Rothman series in 1990, during this car’s last race with Ron Fellows at the wheel, it did spin and hit a barrier, causing damage to the rear, which was properly repaired by the previous owner who replaced the rear valance trunk floor and rear sections of the quarter panels. Overall, this car is cosmetically excellent per race car standards, and you really wouldn’t touch anything if you intended to do some vintage racing or even take the car on the show field. Glass And Trim All of the glass appears to be original with correct insignias, including the windshield. The windshield does have some small stone peppering throughout, but no cracks or other serious chips are evident. All of the exterior trim fits nicely and is relatively supple for its age, considering it is a race car. Wheels INTERIOR Seats And Surfaces The interior is acceptable for a race car with the original original cage still intact, the original date-coded Riccaro seat and passenger seat in place, with carpeting in place from the rear seats forward. The carpeting in the rear seating section has been removed. The current steering wheel installed is incorrect, but the nice original Ron Fellows steering wheel comes included with the car. The odometer shows 10,099 km which we believe to be original. Functionality And Accessories All of the gauges appear to function correctly. The headlights have been removed. If racing is the goal, all of the time-out items, such as the racing harnesses, seats, etc. will need to be addressed prior to any track time. ENGINE BAY AND TRUNK Engine Bay The engine bay is extremely original with its original magnesium intake and factory stickers present throughout. It even comes with its original magnesium oil pan included. The engine bay is highly correct for a turbo cup car with its original suspension strap bar mounts, no power steering, and its correct fiberglass hood. As told by the previous owner, who bought the car in 1990 from the original team, he claims that before its last race, the engine was rebuilt by Porsche and sealed with lead clamps that are still present on the car. We believe the engine is original to the car and has the correct prefix number. If racing is the goal, all of the time-out items will need to be addressed prior to any track time. Trunk Area The trunk area is sparse and completely empty, with no carpeting. Acceptable for a race car. Underside The underside is original and tidy for a race car. MECHANICALS Engine The car cold starts well and sounds very healthy, with a loud growl coming from the turbo cup-specific Walker exhaust, which sounds wonderful. The car makes linear, smooth power throughout all the gears, and there are no issues to note. If racing is the goal, all of the time-out items will need to be addressed prior to any track time. Transmission The transmission feels great, with no grinding upon shifting or other issues to note. However, the clutch is a bit on or off and chatters sometimes upon takeoff. Brakes And Suspension The brakes function as they should, stopping quickly and smoothly and free from chattering or fading. The suspension feels firm and tight over bumps, with no issues to note. Again, if racing is the goal, all of the time-out items will need to be addressed prior to any track time. Tires The original magnesium cup wheels still have their original tri-coat pearlescent finish albeit they are fairly beat up. Currently, it has Hoosier Slicks in good condition but with 2016 date codes. DRIVING EXPERIENCE The 944 Turbo Cup feels incredibly special when sitting behind the wheel. Just knowing you are sitting in a Weissach-built, factory Porsche race car from the 1980s is a special experience in and of itself, but when coupled with the sound of the exhaust, the Recaro seat wrapped around your sides, and the perfectly balanced cornering characteristics and power, the experience is truly unmatched. They do everything right, on and off the track. These are tame, street-able cars when you want them to be and ferocious track terrors at the drop of the green flag. 1988 Porsche 944 Turbo Cup 4 LBI Limited If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1952 Lancia Aurelia B20 GT Series II
With just two owners from new, this venerable second-series B20 GT Coupé has benefitted from a substantial investment (£180,000) at marque specialists, Thornley Kelham, and has been superbly prepared for Historic Rallying. Designed in 1949 by Vittorio Jano, and unveiled in 1950 to a nation slowly recovering from a World War, the Lancia Aurelia was very simply, revolutionary. The car combined luxury, performance, looks and charisma, and offered a dream to a nation just finding their way. It bristled with innovation - the first V6 production engine, transaxle, inboard rear brakes, monocoque construction and a very efficient slippery shape. In a country in love with motorsport, it's no surprise that the Aurelia was immediately seized upon by wealthy Italian privateers, and achieved almost instant success in competition with, perhaps, the most famous being Giovanni Bracco's second place in the 1951 Mille Miglia, in which he outpaced the winning Ferrari over the mountain passes. In the 1951 event, B20s took three of the first seven places, and in the 1952 Mille Miglia, four of the first eight. The model went on to be developed over almost eight years through six distinct Series and they were bought by wealthy discreet Italians and those in the know throughout Europe. Factory driver Gino Valenzano, quoted in Niels Jonassen's Lancia Aurelia in Detail, was of the opinion that the 2-litre engine in the first two Series was much sweeter and more willing to rev than the later 2.5-litre, and the independent rear suspension was far superior to the De Dion system introduced on the Series IV. He further notes that the 2-litre cars, which are hundreds of pounds lighter, are more agile and can be cornered with greater precision. 1952 Lancia Aurelia B20 GT Series II Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1967 Bizzarrini 5300 GT Strada Alloy
At the 1963 Turin Motor Show, the Iso Rivolta company of Milanese industrialist Renzo Rivolta debuted two Giugiaro-designed variants of their new Grifo sportscar. The Grifo A3/L was on the Bertone stand, while the A3/C debuted on Iso’s stand; only the latter was built by Giotto Bizzarrini’s consultancy in Livorno. Despite significant differences, both variants sported Giugiaro-designed coachwork, and they synergistically presented a stunning combination of Italian styling, race-developed underpinnings, and American V-8 power. Convinced that the A3/C’s incredibly low, slippery profile and front-mid-mounted 5.3-litre V-8 engine configuration could translate into motorsports success, for the next 18 months Bizzarrini made the A3/C under agreement with Iso. The car neared 305 km/h on the Mulsanne Straight in 1965, and the Bizzarrini-built Grifos won the GT class at Le Mans in 1964 and, again, in 1965. Bizzarrini and Iso subsequently struck a compromise wherein Bizzarrini would continue to build the Grifo under his own name as the 5300 GT in both “Strada” roadgoing form, and “Corsa” variants for racing. While the Bizzarrini Strada is ostensibly a road car, its specifications read like those of an all-out competition car, with lightweight aluminum bodywork, a fabricated platform chassis, and a semi-monocoque body riveted to the frame. This advanced chassis, combined with near-perfect weight distribution which utilised lessons gleaned from Bizzarrini’s previous work on Ferrari’s 250 GTO, resulted in outstanding performance and incredible handling. Output of the Strada’s Chevrolet V-8 engine ranged between 350 and 420 horsepower, providing a claimed top speed of up to 290 km/h. And at an original price point nearing $10,500, the Strada’s performance was simply unrivaled, provided one could even find an example for sale. Rarer—and faster—than any contemporary roadgoing production model from competing Italian marques, the Bizzarrini 5300 Strada GT is a true paradigm of design and performance. This 5300 GT Strada, number 264, is believed to have been delivered new to the United States, during September 1967, and is one of the 86 alloy-bodied examples completed by Bizzarrini. According to information compiled by the Iso-Bizzarrini Owners Club, as well as the Bizzarrini Registry, chassis 0264 remained in the United States until 1990, when it was imported to the United Kingdom and submitted to its first recorded restoration. After passing through a chain of owners across England and continental Europe between 1998 and 2007, chassis 0264 finally settled down within the careful ownership of a noted Italian collector in 2008. Under its most recent previous owner, the car was inspected by marque expert Jack Koobs de Hartog in the UK during September 2015, and in November 2016, the car was purchased by the consignor, at which time it still wore its prior restoration. Chassis 0264 was subsequently submitted to Rebellion Motors of Lausanne, Switzerland during August 2017 for the start of a total, exhaustive, multi-year restoration which would see the car’s alloy body entirely stripped down to bare metal, and fastidiously corrected. This Strada’s chassis also proved to be in relatively aged condition, and so Rebellion Motors with Carrosserie Challenge (also of Lausanne) masterfully repaired and, where required, recreated, and welded in new body panels and chassis reinforcements. In all, this exacting approach likely relieved this Strada of some of its more characterful artifacts of Bizzarrini’s production line—in essence producing a “better than new” finish. A compendium of invoices (on file) illustrate all work completed in great detail, and in total they represent more than 246,000 CHF lavished upon this incredibly sought-after Anglo-Italian hybrid. As presented today, chassis 0264 is desirably equipped with power windows, triple-vane wing vents, Talbot mirrors, and chrome 17-inch Borrani wire wheels. Sparingly used since the completion of its restoration, chassis 0264 retains many superb and correct details throughout. Additionally, its sale is accompanied by two complete, correct-type Chevrolet 5.3-litre engines, one of which has been partially rebuilt by Oldtimer Center Ostschweiz in St. Margrethen. Eminently presentable for the most prestigious concours and classic racing events, this is an exceptional gran turismo car in all respects. Perhaps Giotto Bizzarrini, the “Father of the 250 GTO,” said it best: “I started with the idea of the Ferrari GTO and set about trying to improve on it.” 1967 Bizzarrini 5300 GT Strada Alloy RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright At the 1963 Turin Motor Show, the Iso Rivolta company of Milanese industrialist Renzo Rivolta debuted two Giugiaro-designed variants of their new Grifo sportscar. - 1955 Ferrari 250 Europa GT
In the fabled story of the Prancing Horse, the 250 Europa GT is notable for myriad reasons, not least because it was the very first Ferrari road car powered by the legendary Colombo V12 and, to all intents and purposes, the genesis of the immortal 250 GT line of models. When Ferrari introduced the GT variant of its Europa at the Paris Motor Show in 1954, there was far more to the new Pinin Farina-styled Gran Turismo than the subtle visual difference and small change of nomenclature would suggest. Most prominently, the long-block Lampredi twelve-cylinder powerplant was replaced with Colombo’s more sporting short-block 2,953cc V12 – an engine which would form the backbone of Ferrari’s model range for more than a decade and become intrinsically associated with the 250 GTs. “The Colombo engine would form the backbone of Ferrari’s model range for more than a decade and become intrinsically associated with the most famous 250 GTS.” Not only was the shorter engine more powerful (thanks to the addition of three Weber 36 DCZ carburetors, power was raised to a punchy 220bhp, but it also resulted in a shorter wheelbase – 200mm, to be precise. Throw in independent front suspension (another first for a Ferrari road car) and here was a road-going Ferrari Gran Turismo for the modern age – one which more than lived up to its maker’s early competition lineage. Chassis number 0399 GT One of only 28 Ferrari 250 Europa GTs bodied by Pinin Farina, chassis number 0399 GT was acquired new in 1956 by Sydney Chaplin, the elder half-brother and business manager of the world-famous comic actor Charlie Chaplin. Clearly a man of distinguished taste, he specified his new car in Grigio with a Pelle Rosso Pall Mall leather interior. The high-waisted design is quintessential of the 1950s, though the specification of this particular car hints very much at what’s to come. The additional spotlights lent the soft and sultry Pinin Farina coachwork airs of sporting prowess, as did the split windscreen – a feature that, as far as we can tell, is unique to chassis 0399 GT. So proud of the car was Ferrari that it was proudly exhibited at the Torino Motor Show in April of 1956. We like to imagine Sydney Chaplin whisking his brother Charlie – arguably among the film industry’s most important figures – through the backstreets and boulevards of Paris to and from dinner, chased by legions of adoring fans and the glorious twelve-cylinder howl emanating from the four peashooter exhaust pipes. In the 1980s the 250 Europa GT was owned by Giuseppe Prevosti, who refinished the car in the gorgeous ruby red/metallic silver it wears today. Chassis number 0399 GT was also extensively restored in Italy 1990. An Italian doctor by the name of Piergiorgio Mastroeni acquired chassis number 0399 GT in 1994. And over the course of his 19 years of ownership, he capitalised on the Ferrari’s incredible eligibility and entered no fewer than seven editions of the Mille Miglia Storica, two Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este meetings and Ferrari’s 50th- and 60th-anniversary celebrations, held in Rome and Firenze, respectively. In addition to getting the car featured in a number of Ferrari magazines and obtaining the car its Automotoclub Storico Italiano certificate and corresponding gold plaque, Mastroeni had this 250 Europa GT certified by Ferrari Classiche – a crucial means of confirming the car’s authenticity and provenance. The Ferrari’s current Swiss owner, a well-known personality in the horological world, bought the car in 2013 and registered it in Switzerland. He has since contested two further Mille Miglia road-rallies, though chassis 0399 GT has been seldomly used. If the 250 Europa GT was a versatile Gran Turismo in 1955, then its talents have multiplied in the 67 years since. Eligibility is this Ferrari’s trump card. Its rarity and excellent long-distance Grand Touring credentials make it a perfect car with which to take on such prestigious historic road rallies as the Mille Miglia in Italy and the Colorado Grand in America. Furthermore, chassis 0399 GT’s superb condition, having been the subject of a no-expenses-spared restoration, and its undeniable beauty mean it would be welcomed at most of the world’s top-tier concours events, including the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. “The Ferrari 250 Europa GT is a wonderfully accomplished and utterly beautiful Gran Turismo more than befitting of the Cavallino Rampante.” A delicious and tantalising amuse-bouche ahead of the truly great things to come, the 250 Europa GT represents Ferrari at one of its most exciting and pivotal points. More fundamentally, it’s a wonderfully accomplished and utterly beautiful Gran Turismo more than befitting of the Cavallino Rampante. Suffice to say, with its Classiche certification, unique specification and Chaplin family provenance, chassis number 0399 GT is a Ferrari for the most discerning of collectors. 1955 Ferrari 250 Europa GT Garagisti If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1986 Porsche 911 reimagined by Singer
A far cry from the 911 Classic by Singer, the DLS or ‘Dynamic Lightweighting Study’ take a more holistic approach to improving every element of the iconic 911. Where as the Classic sought to deliver the ultimate overall experience of a 911, embodied in an understated – but still carbon fibre bodyshell, the DLS project set out to understand, embrace and accentuate each of the intricacies that are unique to the Porsche 911. Far from intending to deliver a modern driving experience, the DLS is still very true to its origins. A hands-on, analogue interface, with a manual gearbox and race-oriented 4.0 naturally-aspirated flat 6 developed by Williams Advanced Engineering. Consulting the likes of legendary Porsche engineers Hans Mezger and Norbert Singer during the development phase, Singer and Williams have worked in unison to heavily fettle the air-cooled powerplant. In production trim, it now offers around 500hp with a rev limiter coming in at 9,300rpm. With the engine starting life as the standard 964 3.6 litre, works were carried out to revise almost every moving part. Titanium con-rods, aluminium throttle bodies, carbon intake trumpets, a bespoke carbon airbox, fuel injectors with twin injectors and a ram-air induction system fed by inlets in the iconic rear ¾ windows that keeps the profile so pure and true to the classic 911 style. If somehow you’ve dismissed this car so far, the startup of the Inconel and titanium exhaust will serve an overdue wake up call. This example was completed in early July 2023 and was seen for the first time in public at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024. It has since been carefully stored and today presents as expected with delivery mileage. This example is optioned in the out of range, Paint to Sample, Piano Black with a wealth of exterior carbon fibre and select Gold highlights both inside and out. 1986 Porsche 911 reimagined by Singer D.K. - 1980 Ferrari 400i
The 365/400 Series is one of the longest-lived and most successful models ever offered by Ferrari. The 400i we have on offer, a rare manual 5-speed version, was delivered through Garage J.-P. Favre S.A. in Lausanne on the 22nd February 1980. After (assumed) two further owners and 77‘400 km driven the car was acquired by an enthusiast in 2006. He kept the car for 14 years, meticulously documenting the 28‘000 km driven by him in a logbook. In 2010 the interior received a partial restauration followed by a part-restauration of the coachwork in 2014. A few years ago, a stainless steel exhaust system was installed and in 2020 this most elegant 2 plus 2 was bought by the current owner. The 104‘000 km covered in total are well documented through the service booklet, the logbook and sundry maintenance receipts and the Ferrari presents itself in good, very well maintained condition. The last Veteran MOT was completed in September 2021. 1980 Ferrari 400i Oldtimer Galerie International GmbH If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. 113 of 250 Edizione Finale's produced 18,867 miles, a meticulously maintained original example Exclusive and Limited Ross Amarento Red paint Turbocharged 2.0 Liter Inline-Four Upgraded to 250 H.P. / 227 LB-FT Torque 5-Speed Manual Transmission Rare and almost unobtainable final edition of the road-going version of one of the most successful rally cars in history. Finished in Exclusive Ross Amareno Red paint over Black interior trim. The paintwork is original, in remarkable condition, and accented by a blue and yellow striping down the center of the car. Mechanically, this Lancia is a marvel of its time but even marvels could be made better. Simple upgrades include a carbon fiber air intake under the hood as well as an aftermarket muffler. It not only boasts a turbocharged and inter-cooled 2.0-liter inline-four that is capable of outputting 250 horsepower but promises the pulse-quickening rush that only a car with a lineage of six consecutive World Rally Championships could offer. The Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione II Edizione Finale is the culmination of one of the most successful rally cars in history. The car's silhouette is etched with the glory of its rally ancestors, its original paintwork in remarkable condition, graced by a center striping in blue and yellow - the colors of racing victories. Its aesthetic is further distinguished by the “Final Edition” accents, including assertive hood vents and an adjustable high-mounted rear spoiler, fender flares that speak of its robust agility. High Bucket Recaro Sport Seats cradle you, as OMP competition pedals lie beneath, waiting to dance to the driver's tune. The dashboard, a masterclass in ergonomics, is crowned with a leather-wrapped Momo Corse steering wheel, push-button start, Veglia instrumentation whispers of Italian craftsmanship, and a Continental radio hints at modernity without betraying its heritage. The upgraded 17-inch Speedline Magnesium wheels are the perfect complement to the overall aesthetic of the car and stand out for their uniqueness. The headlights have been changed to factory Lancia Delta units due to left-hand traffic in Canada, from the earlier Lancia style used on the model for the Japanese market. The so-called “Edizione Finale,” or final edition of the Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione II, is said to have emerged because of requests from a vocal contingent of Japanese enthusiasts. Limited to 250 units, the Edizione Finale is distinguished from other Delta HF Integrale models by its livery of Ross Amarento Red with yellow and blue stripes. Upon arrival at Canepa, every collector car for sale is put through an extensive and diligent process called the “Canepa Difference.” This includes a major and comprehensive mechanical inspection where all systems are checked, serviced, and restored as needed. They also receive award-winning concours-level detailing, including a thorough cleaning of each and every surface. 1994 Lancia Delta HF Integrale Canepa If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1965-ferrari-500-superfast-series-I-by-pininfarina
THE 500 SUPERFAST Initially coined for a series of show cars and concepts, Ferrari’s “Superfast” nomenclature was finally applied to a production vehicle in 1964 with the introduction of the 500 Superfast. Conceived as a luxurious, exclusive grand touring saloon, the new model was for all intents and purposes the ultimate development of Ferrari’s flagship Superamerica model. While the Superfast coachwork was clearly developed from the outgoing 400 Superamerica Coupe Aerodinamico, the Tipo 578/65 chassis was derived from the 330 GT 2+2, ensuring the luxurious ride quality of a long wheelbase. These dimensions were maximized with the removal of any rear seating, providing a remarkably roomy and elegant interior. Luxury amenities included power windows and steering, sumptuous leather upholstery, and a teak-accented dashboard. The Superfast’s 4,963-cubic-centimeter Tipo 208 V-12 was an extremely unique engine for Ferrari, combining elements of the Lampredi-designed tall-block racing engine and the long-running Colombo-designed short-block motor. Capable of developing 400 horsepower, this engine was described by the noted marque historian Hans Tanner as “one of the most powerful Ferrari GT engines ever constructed.” Unveiled at the 1964 Geneva International Motor Show, the 500 Superfast was built in a limited quantity of just 36 examples through late 1966. As the flagship Ferrari grand touring model of its era, the 500 Superfast enjoyed ownership by jet-set luminaries such as the Aga Khan, Barbara Hutton, the Shah of Iran, and Peter Sellers. Claiming rarity, breathtaking aesthetics, and unprecedented road-car performance thanks to its prodigious 400-horsepower 4.9-liter engine, the 500 Superfast was the ultimate expression of the Superamerica series. The highly collectable cars are now found at the center of some of the world’s most exclusive and respected stables…as they were when new. CHASSIS NUMBER 6303SF The 14th of 25 Series I Superfasts built, chassis number 6303SF was ordered in the spring of 1965 by the famed British Ferrari importers Maranello Concessionaires. It was equipped to the latest specification, with the recently introduced five-speed gearbox, three air ducts on the front fenders, and circular Carello turn signal lights, and was, interestingly, specified as a full two-seater, without the “occasional” rear seat, a very sporting configuration. Further, it was built to left-hand-drive, indicating its first owner intended to use it largely abroad. At its completion the Superfast was delivered through Maranello Concessionaires’ auspices that August to George P. Livanos, the shipping magnate who maintained the largest merchant navy in Greece, and whose son, Peter, would be a well-known and astute enthusiast in his own right, eventually becoming a majority shareholder of Aston Martin. Mr. Livanos’s Ferrari was serviced at the Assistenza Clienti in Maranello in September 1965 and June 1967—by the latter, it was being kept at its owner’s residence in Gstaad. In 1969 the car moved across the Atlantic when it was sold to its second owner, John Calley of Burbank, California, former president of Warner Brothers and a renowned sports car enthusiast and collector. Mr. Calley kept the Ferrari for three years, then sold it to Bud Pessin of Archway Motor Imports in Manchester, Missouri, who passed it in 1974 to Richard McEntyre of San Diego. Mr. McEntyre would be a very long-term caretaker of his 500 Superfast, eventually undertaking a restoration in the hands of Harold White of Fallbrook, California, between 2000 and 2004. With the restoration completed, the car was sold in 2005 and passed into the hands of Weston A. Hook of La Jolla, who displayed it at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering in 2007. Chassis number 6323SF remained in Mr. Hook’s care until 2010, then was acquired by a collector in Belgium, from whom the present owner, a longtime and devoted Ferrari connoisseur, purchased it a decade ago. More recently a complete fresh restoration was performed by the noted marque specialists, Fast Cars Ltd. of Redondo Beach, California, with the Superfast finished as-original in Blu Notte over Naturale leather interior, and retaining its numbers-matching major components including engine and gearbox, as confirmed in the Ferrari Classiche binder. It is presented today still in beautiful overall condition, from stem to stern, worthy of being appreciated by the most devout tifoso—the same type of man who would have carefully specified his 500 Superfast in 1965. 1965 Ferrari 500 Superfast Series I by Pininfarina RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
