- 1982-ferrari-308-gtbi-03
An exceptionally honest and highly usable Ferrari 308 GTBi finished in original US-market specification. This car has covered approximately 48,000 miles and has had just two owners from new. It presents as a strong, well-kept driver’s example with the right balance of cosmetic quality, mechanical integrity, and originality. The fuel-injected GTBi models offer a uniquely usable version of the classic transverse V8 Ferrari formula: lighter and more delicate than later cars, with excellent drivability and real-world usability. This example retains exactly the qualities that make the 308 compelling: beautiful analogue steering feel, compact dimensions, excellent visibility, and a genuinely mechanical driving character largely absent from later Ferraris. The car has clearly been cared for throughout its life without becoming over-restored or over-detailed. It is an honest, mature example intended to be driven and enjoyed. Increasingly difficult to find in this kind of ownership and condition profile. 1982 Ferrari 308 GTBi Car Cave USA If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1970-lancia-fulvia-sport-zagato-1300
1970 Lancia Fulvia Sport Zagato – Rally-Inspired | Sourced in Italy | EU-Based The Lancia Fulvia Sport Zagato is one of those rare cars where design, engineering, and motorsport pedigree come together in a way that still feels distinctive today. Built by Zagato for Lancia, the Sport was always the more unconventional and aerodynamically focused counterpart to the Fulvia Coupé—lighter, rarer, and unmistakably Zagato in its execution. We sourced this car ourselves in Italy and imported it to Belgium, selecting it specifically for its honest condition and strong overall character. It is a car that immediately stood out to us as something we would enjoy using ourselves. This is a late Series 1 (Tipo 818.362) example, featuring the desirable lightweight construction with aluminum bonnet (side-hinged), doors, and spare wheel compartment—details that define the early Zagato-bodied cars. Rally-Inspired Configuration Rather than being preserved as a static collector piece, this Fulvia has been prepared with clear intent: to be driven and enjoyed, in line with the model’s competition roots. The upgrades have been carried out in a coherent, period-inspired manner and include: Widened fenders accommodating a more aggressive wheel and tire setup Quick-release fasteners on bonnet and rear lid Bucket seats with harnesses The result is a car that visually and functionally reflects the Fulvia’s rally heritage, while remaining usable on the road. Condition & Driving Character This example presents as a well-sorted driver, with a straight body and an honest overall appearance. It sits correctly on gold Fulvia wheels, fitted with modern Dunlop tires for improved usability. It is not positioned as a concours showpiece, but rather as a driver-focused classic—engaging, lightweight, and full of character in a way few cars of the period can match. Why This Car At Car Cave, we look beyond rarity alone—we focus on cars that justify their place both on the road and in a collection. This Fulvia stands out because it combines several highly desirable characteristics: Early Zagato construction, including lightweight aluminum panels A rally-inspired specification that enhances both presence and usability Careful sourcing in Italy, selected by us for its authenticity and condition An honest, non-over-restored presentation, increasingly difficult to find A driving experience defined by lightness, precision, and character, rather than outright power It is a car that appeals not only on paper, but behind the wheel—offering a more nuanced and engaging alternative to more conventional classics. A distinctive and carefully selected Fulvia Sport Zagato—combining rarity, character, and usability in a way few classics can. 1970 Lancia Fulvia Sport Zagato 1300 Car Cave USA If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. Originally in Suede Green with Tan leather, it was built for the American market it was delivered in 1955 to its first owner, B K Rees in Marietta Georgia. In 1990 it was brought into the UK in need of restoration. It was sent to XK Engineering in Warwickshire who converted the car to RHD and completed a full restoration on the vehicle. Changing the colour to the Red with black leather interior you see today. We have a number of pictures of the vehicle while this work was undertaken. It has had various works completed over the years since then, and we have a folder full of receipts. Most recently it had nearly £40,000 spent on it at Twyford Moors which includes: An upgraded 5 speed gearbox, Fitting of electronic ignition Carb conversion for E10 fuel Front brake disc conversion Polybushed front suspension Adjustable shock absorbers New alloy radiator Hi-torque starter motor New clutch and flywheel Condition wise with it being nearly 40 years since the re-spray the bodywork is showing some signs of patina in places and mechanically being an old Jag that are some oil leaks from the engine area, although we do expect these to improve with use as the car has been in storage for a while. Jonathon's comments: 'This is a great example of an XK140 that although isn't 100% 'original', has been made a much nicer car to drive. The 5 speed box is a big improvement as is the front disc conversion. The XK140 to drive is a lovely car, it has enough power to keep up with modern traffic and makes a great noise. The owner of the car is having a change of circumstances and we are helping him reduce his collection at the moment having sold a number of his vehicles already' 1955 Jaguar XK140 OTS Car Barn If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1976-dino-308-gt4
Paris Motor Show, 1973. After 20 years of exclusive collaboration with Pininfarina, Ferrari unveiled the Dino 308 GT4, a model equipped with a V8 engine imagined by Bertone. In his Turin workshop, Maestro Marcello Gandini accomplished a real feat: designing an attractive 2+2 with a rear mid-engine in a body just over 4.30 meters long. The Dino 308 GT4 was the first completely new Ferrari model since Fiat took control of the Maranello production vehicle department in 1969. The successor to the 246 GT, it was presented at the 1973 Paris Motor Show. The 308 GT4 inaugurated a three-liter V8 (a return to the displacement of the 250 GT), which would be carried over to the 308 GTB. Unlike the V6 of the Dino 246, which was produced at Fiat, the 308's engine was made in Maranello. The four overhead camshafts are driven by two toothed belts, as on the 12-cylinder boxer engine. Mounted transversely in the center of the car, this engine (with wet sump) forms a unit with the gearbox and the self-locking differential. Fed by four Weber twin-barrel carburetors, it develops 250 bhp at 7,700 rpm, with the torque remaining at the same level. Another singularity, and not the least, is that the 308 GT4 is a 2+2. A daring concept and a risky aesthetic gamble! How do you fit four seats in a small car with a central rear engine without creating an ugly duckling? Pininfarina, Ferrari's resident designer since 1953, was hardly enthusiastic about the specifications. Nor was he tempted to take risks. So Bertone took the plunge! And we can only congratulate the coachbuilder from Turin, who acquitted himself remarkably well. Especially as the car is only ten centimeters longer than the Dino 246. Quite a feat! According to Bertone, who had designed the Fiat Dino coupé, the collaboration with Ferrari came about at Fiat's suggestion. The car's slimline front end features a plunging bonnet and retractable headlamps, while a large rectangular air intake is positioned under the slim radiator grille. Beyond a very flat roof, a sleek stern ends in a reduced overhang. The rear window is set between long quarter-pillars to accommodate two hatches, one for the engine and the other for the luggage compartment. To accommodate two passengers in the rear, the 308 GT4's driving position has been moved forward and its wheelbase extended to 2.55 metres. The multi-tube chassis and suspension were inherited from the 246. When production of the 246 GT/GTS ended in 1974, the 308 GT4 was the last model in the Dino range. It was also the only model that American Ferrari dealers could offer their customers, as the 365 GT4BB and 365 GT4 2+2 models were not homologated for that market. So the only ‘Ferrari’ they sell doesn't even carry a Ferrari badge, and to make matters worse, its performance is muzzled by emissions control equipment. This didn't help sales, so in mid-1975 the factory asked US dealers to install Ferrari badges on stock cars. Vehicles that had not yet left the factory were fitted with Ferrari badges, with the Dino only appearing on the boot. As a result, some vehicles on the American market bore both Ferrari and Dino badges. In 1975, Ferrari launched the 208 GT4, a version reserved exclusively for the Italian market and reduced to two liters for tax reasons (reduced VAT). Power was increased to 170 bhp and the top speed was limited to 200 km/h. Externally, the only difference between the car and the 308 was the absence of fog lamps in the radiator grille and a single tailpipe. Although Ferrari entrusted the design of the 308 GTB - presented in 1975 and produced alongside the 308 GT4 - to Pininfarina, Bertone offered a spider based on the 308 GT4 at the 1976 Turin Motor Show. Called the Rainbow, this strict two-seater with a wheelbase ten centimeters shorter could have been the model missing from the Ferrari range since the withdrawal of the 246 GTS. The Rainbow is an interesting exercise, very much in the style of the Bertone bodywork of the time. Ultra-modern, the sharp design uses only straight lines and sharp angles (the wedge-shaped line inherited from the Carabo and Marcello Gandini's Stratos), a bias that is even reflected in the design of the wheels! What's more, this concept car features an ingenious device: a hard top positioned behind the seats transforms the car into a coupé-spider, simply by being tilted into the closed position by the driver using a simple control. The Dino brand came to an end in 1976, when the prancing horse replaced the Dino logo on the 308 GT4, which now bore the Ferrari badge. At the same time, the car received a number of detailed modifications to the radiator grille and passenger compartment. In order to comply with anti-pollution and safety standards, the American version of the 308 GT4 was disfigured by unsightly retractable bumpers, while power was cut by around 10%. This loss, combined with a significant weight gain, put a damper on performance... and sales! In Europe, the commercial fortunes of the 308 GT4 also followed a downward curve, and production of the car was discontinued in 1980.Built between 1974 and 1980, 2,826 examples of the 308 GT4 and 840 of the 208 GT4 were produced, a figure considerably higher than that of the Dino 246 GT. Although the 308 GT4 was not particularly designed for competition, it nevertheless enjoyed the hot atmosphere of the racetrack. It owes this singular adventure to the intrepid Luigi Chinetti, who entered one of the first cars to leave the factory in the 1974 Le Mans 24 Hours. In addition to a tuned engine, the NART 308 GT4 was fitted with aluminum or fiberglass body panels and Plexiglas windows, a spoiler, a huge rear overhang spoiler and Speedline wheels. The car retired at the end of the fourth hour due to a broken driveshaft. Our Dino 308GT4 was delivered in July 1976 by Ferrari agent Daverat in Bayonne. All of its owners are known, as is its mileage, as confirmed by its maintenance booklet and all of the copies of the registration documents and roadworthiness tests on file. Always perfectly maintained, it has undergone rigorous servicing and all the attention of its last owner. The distribution has been done, the carburetors are adjusted, the original rims have been restored etc. It is ready to take you on the winding roads of France, why not with your family! 1976 Dino 308 GT4 Historic Cars If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. Some collectors are truly devoted to this family of models, which express Italy, the fifties and carefree living better than a long speech. A brand with such a rich past that Alfa Romeo, so sporty, could only succeed in marketing this small car in coupe, convertible and saloon versions. For all tastes, almost for all budgets, the Giulietta has honoured the glorious past of this Milanese firm. Strangely enough, France is at the origin of the Alfa Romeo company. In 1909, the Italian branch of the Darracq company was for sale, and a group of Italian industrialists took an interest. Not to continue producing these cars whose reputation had spread beyond the Alps, but to produce cars more suited to the Italian market in the midst of a crisis. Thus was created A.L.F.A., which stands for Anonima Lombarda Fabrica Automobili, and which adopted as its emblem the Red Cross on a white background of the city of Milan, and the Visconti Serpent. These beautiful symbols did not bring A.L.F.A. luck at first, because the ‘fabrica’ was put up for sale in the autumn of 1915. And it was a certain engineer by the name of Nicola Romeo who acquired the Portello factory. It will be understood without delay that the true history of Alfa Romeo can begin. From the end of the Great War, Alfa Romeo made horses talk by participating in and winning numerous races. The first drivers to shine in these cars were Sivocci, Campari, Ramponi and Ferrari. The latter, a young beginner named Enzo, would play a key role in Alfa's reputation, as he would race these cars in his already famous Scuderia from 1929 onwards. It was in fact on Alfa bonnets that the first prancing horse emblems would appear. All these events led the public to associate Alfa Romeo with racing, sport and triumph. And the Formula 1 world championship titles won by Farina and Fangio in 1950 and 1951 did nothing to dispel the impression of powerful aggression that emanated from the brand with the cloverleaf. With the Giulietta, Alfa Romeo entered a new area of activity: mass production. Alfa abandoned competition at the end of 1951, covered in laurels, and as the technicians at the Portello factory were steeped in competition, it was not ordinary, anonymous products that would be the fruit of their labour. In 1954, the Giulietta was timidly released, its name a tribute to William Shakespeare and the tragedy that inspired it. The ambiguity of these cars lies in the fact that the name Giulietta corresponded to a 1300 cc engine. Later, the Giulia would have a 1600 engine. However, it became customary to call these cars Giulietta, regardless of their engine. We could talk for hours about Alfa Romeo engines alone, we could write a book about these little mechanical marvels. This brand, which has earned a worldwide reputation in this field, has clearly demonstrated its expertise and talent by producing generations of confidential ‘big’ 6 and 8-cylinder engines. But, most surprisingly, it was equally at ease in the development of this very attractive little four-cylinder aluminium engine with double overhead camshafts (driven by chains), intended for mass production. Note that the combustion chambers of this engine are hemispherical and the spark plugs are central. This engine is above all an Alfa Romeo, a brilliant and noisy piece of precision engineering, with a superb intake noise, that sonorous and characteristic hum that begins when the carburettor body opens fully. Delivered new in France, our Giulia has undergone a complete nut and bolt restoration, in that superb "Blue Celeste" livery and the photos speak for themselves. Lancia’s answer to the Porsche 956 When Lancia’s dirigente sportivo Cesare Fiorio and Martini Racing’s top brass first clapped eyes on Porsche’s spaceship-like 956 Group C prototype at the Silverstone 6 Hours in May of 1982, we’d bet it soon dawned that they were going to have to throw the kitchen sink at its own challenger for the FIA’s newly formed Group C category. But if anybody could rise to the challenge and build a worthy competitor, it was Lancia and all its Italian industrial might. National pride was at stake, after all. Once the Group C project was greenlit in the summer of 1982, Ingegnere Gianni Tonti was appointed to oversee the design and development. And let’s just say budgetary constraints weren’t an issue. The illustrious firm Dallara was entrusted with the lion’s share of the chassis design – a state-of-the-art aluminium monocoque. Ferrari supplied a bespoke twin-turbocharged 2.6-litre V8 engine that, in full qualifying specification, pumped out a dizzying 800HP. And the sleek carbon-Kevlar bodywork’s aerodynamic trickery and newfangled ground effects were honed at the Fiat Research Centre in Orbassano. “Time after time, the Lancia Martini Racing Team’s LC2s would leave the paddock bewildered with their turn of pace.” The resulting prototype, finished in the evocative Martini colours, was christened the LC2. And it was fast right out of the box. Really fast. Time after time, the Lancia Martini Racing Team’s cars would leave the paddock bewildered with their turn of pace. In qualifying for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1984, Bob Wollek vanquished the Works Porsches in qualifying. And despite a lack of reliability and an abundance of bad luck, the Works LC2s scored 13 pole positions between 1983 and 1986, converting three into outright victories. By no means did Fiorio and Tonti stop persevering with the LC2, in order to maintain its competitiveness against Porsche’s ever-evolving 956s – much to the dismay of the bean counters in Turin. The most dramatic – and effective – upgrade to the LC2 came in advance of the 1985 FIA World Sportscar Championship. Firstly, the electronic fuel injection and ignition systems (supplied predominantly by Magnetti Marelli in Turin) were optimised and honed to reduce fuel consumption by some 15 percent. The bodywork was widened in order to enlarge the track and make full use of the regulatory dimensions. And the tyres were switched from cross-ply Dunlops to radial Michelins. Specification-wise, the LC2 had reached its zenith. Chassis number 0007 Only seven LC2s left Lancia’s Squadra Corse and were raced by the factory Martini Racing Team outfit. This 1985-specification example – chassis number 0007 – was the last of those seven Works cars. Its first recorded competitive outing came in the 1985 Shell Gemini Brands Hatch 1,000KMs, round eight of the FIA World Sportscar Championship. Assigned the race number five, 0007 was earmarked to be driven by the 1990 World Sportscar Champion Mauro Baldi, the four-time Le Mans winner Bob Wollek and the Italian Formula 1 veteran Andrea de Cesaris. Chassis 0007 made its competitive debut in the 1000KMs of Brands Hatch in 1985 The qualifying-spec 800HP engine fitted, chassis 0007 recorded a lap time of 1min15.1sec in practice – good for second on the grid, behind only the sister Martini Racing LC2. For England, the weather on race day turned out to be unusually warm, causing the Michelin tyres fitted to the Lancias to wear quicker than expected. This allowed the Porsches to pass, much to the dismay of the 26,000-strong crowd. Baldi, Wollek and De Cesaris crossed the line in third overall, the latter also clinching the fastest lap of the race. The World Sportscar Championship became the World Sports Prototype Championship for 1986 thanks to the infinite wisdom of the FIA. And with it came the introduction of three additional sprint races, similar in distance to a conventional Formula 1 Grand Prix and with a mandatory driver change. The first of these new sprint races was the season-opening Kouros Cup at Monza in April. Pole position and the fastest lap were welcome spoils at the 1986 1000KMs of Silverstone As Lancia invested more energy and expense into its successful World Rally Championship campaign, so the endurance racing outfit’s programme was reduced to one car for 1986. Not that this deterred Tonti and the ingegneri in Turin from developing one final evolution of the LC2. The 1986-specification car differed in a number of ways, not least the wider Venturi tunnels in the floor, the 20kg reduction in weight to the chassis, the addition of the Thorsen differential and the 40bhp boost in power. Chassis 0007 was Lancia Martini Racing’s designated weapon of choice for the 1986 season. And for the opening sprint race at Monza, Andrea de Cesaris and Alessandro Nannini were assigned to drive. The new and updated LC2 instantly showed its hand, clinching pole position by a massive two seconds from the Joest Racing Porsche. A Ferrari-powered Lancia on the pole at Monza – to say this one was teed up nicely is an understatement. “Set on the harder (read slower) tyre compound and in the first practice session, the pole lap was astonishing and a whisker off an average speed of 150mph.” The race saw a breathless battle between the Lancia and the Porsche, each assuming the lead on several occasions. Alas, in a turn of events indicative of Lancia’s road-racing luck in general, fuel issues struck with 10 laps remaining. Chassis 0007 was forced to settle for second place, though snatched the fastest lap as a small consolation prize for the team. Next up was the first endurance event of 1986: the Kouros 1,000KM of Silverstone. Once again, chassis 0007 represented Lancia and, once again, secured pole position in the hands of De Cesaris and Nannini. Set on the harder (read slower) tyre compound and in the first practice session, the pole laps was astonishing and a whisker off an average speed of 150mph. After a killer start this LC2 built a lead of 12 seconds. But the team was once again thwarted by fuel issues, which cost 0007 over an hour in the pits. De Cesaris was sent out for one final flourish, setting a new Group C course record of 1min13.9sec – and with a full tank of fuel! By the time the car was parked, Fiorio was already en route to the airport with his entourage. Sheer speed would be the attribute for which the LC2 was remembered when Lancia took the difficult decision to pull out of endurance racing after Silverstone and focus solely on its rallying efforts. And fair enough in hindsight. The Torinese marque would go on to become the most successful manufacturer in the history of the World Rally Championship – a position it retains to this day. As Lancia withdrew, so this LC2 was sold to Vern Schuppan, who’d won the 1983 24 Hours of Le Mans driving a Works Porsche 956. Schuppan sold the car to Dr. Shigeo Imai in Japan, who in turn sold it to the European father-and-son collectors and historic racing drivers Richard and Benton Bryan. In the enviable position of having owned two LC2s at the same time, they raced chassis 0007 on a number of occasions in the then-burgeoning historic Group C championship, including in the support race for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2004. The following owner, a French enthusiast and veteran historic racing driver with an extraordinary collection of historically-significant competition cars, continued to campaign this LC2 in events across Europe. That was until 2018, when we at Girardo & Co. had the pleasure of selling the car to its current owner, a West Coast-based collector who counts a number of predominantly Ferrari competition cars in his stable. Since then, chassis 0007 was subjected to a no-expense-spared mechanical restoration, during which the engine was thoroughly inspected, the gearbox was rebuilt and the crown wheel and pinion replaced. The entire car was disassembled and all the relevant parts were crack-tested and re-anodised. The bodywork was also repainted and the Works Martini Racing Team livery reapplied. For all intents and purposes, this Lancia LC2 is in rude health and ready to be enjoyed, either on a private track-day or in the increasingly popular world of historic Group C racing, both in Europe and across the pond in the United States of America. Most recently, in the custody of its current private owner, chassis number 0007 made an appearance at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it was driven by Emanuele Pirro. The Italian five-time Le Mans winner never raced the Lancia LC2 in period. But he came close… “I was asked by Lancia’s sporting director Cesare Fiorio to join his team with the Beta Montecarlo Turbo in 1981,” he recalls during a break in his jam-packed @fosgoodwood schedule. “It was an absolute dream for me – the drivers in the team were a generation ahead and those I really admired: Michele Alboreto, Riccardo Patrese, Eddie Cheever and the like.” Alas, a move to Alfa Romeo in Formula 3 presented a contractual conflict of interest and Pirro was forced to leave Lancia just before their world-beating prototype endurance-racing programme really got going with the LC1. “That was really hard,” he remembers. “Contesting the world championship with an Italian brand and the iconic Martini sponsorship – what could have been!” Driving this LC2, chassis number 0007, took an a particular sense of significance for Pirro since the two Italian drivers who raced it in period, Alessandro Nannini and Michele Alboreto, were both teammates of his during his career. “Chassis 0007 boasts a short but sweet competition record studded with success: two podium finishes, two pole positions and three fastest laps – from only three races!” Hailing from one of motorsport history’s most evocative and fondly remembered epochs, the Lancia LC2 will always be considered one of the greatest Group C prototypes – a car which, in spite of its ultimately thwarted luck, captured the collective imagination with its fierce speed and desperate beauty. Chassis 0007 boasts a short but sweet competition record studded with success: two podium finishes, two pole positions and three fastest laps – from only three races! Furthermore, its ultimate (read fastest) specification and the fact it is the final chassis campaigned by the Works Lancia Martini Racing outfit make this a truly unique proposition. Lancia and Ferrari – a match made in motorsport heaven. 1985 Lancia LC2 Group C Girardo & Co. Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. Other Cars from Girardo & Co. Which model was the embodiment of that is the DBS V8. With its stately stance, clean lines and unmistakable nod to American muscle cars, this beauty is both graceful and uncompromisingly powerful. This left-hand drive, manual transmission DBS V8 was originally exported to Denmark and later became part of a static collection. In 2010, the car underwent an extensive restoration at the renowned ROOS Engineering Ltd. in Switzerland, investing more than €54,000 in body and mechanical work. Since then, mileage has added just 24 kilometers, with a total of 13,653 km. The dark blue exterior with a purple tint, combined with a matching blue interior, offers a refined look. Under the hood awaits the 5.3-liter V8 engine designed by Tadek Marek - capable of launching this 1,727 kg masterpiece from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds. Although the car has not been driven recently, its aesthetic appeal is undeniable, and this rarity yearns to add miles again. - 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso 1
This example was supplied new to Maranello Concessionaires on 2nd October 1963, originally supplied as a demonstrator. Illustrating Colonel Ronnie Hoare’s fondness with blue hues, this example was optioned in Azzurro over Blue Vaumol 3014. The car would be used for 5,000 miles under the Colonel’s watch, during which time it received a pioneering new sound-deadening kit, fitted by Silent Travel Ltd of Eaton Bray. Certainly the opposing end of the spectrum to its later specification! The car would have two owners between 1964 and 1972 at which point it was purchased by notable collector and capable driver Richard Colton. Known after his passing for leaving his two prized Ferraris to the RNLI, despite being a shy and private man, Richard was well known in Ferrari circles for his collection, enthusiastic use and methodical servicing. During his 9 year ownership of the Lusso between 1972 and 1981, this car did in fact share a garage with the 250 GT SWB Berlinetta he would retain until his passing in 2015. Later the car passed to the son of a helicopter magnate and renowned touring car driver Laurence Bristow. Purchasing the Lusso in 1988, he tasked Terry Hoyle with converting the Lusso to FIA race specification ahead of his entrance in the 1989 Coppa D’Italia rally in Puglia. Founded by keen Italian racer Guilio Dubbini, the 1989 event marked the fifth occasion of the rally with cars from 1931-1965 eligible to compete. By this time the car had been repainted in Rosso; Bristow upgraded the engine at the time and fitted a rollbar for safety and subsequently competed once more the following year. This was merely the start of the Lusso’s competition endeavours. Passing to Richard Taylor in the mid-90s, the Lusso would take part in both the 1997 & 1998 Tour Auto as well as competing at the Coys International Historic Festival in 1997 at the hands of Barry ‘Whizzo’ Williams. In 1998, this Lusso was purchased by Paul Osborn of Cars International. Seeking a lower-cost V12 Ferrari competition car, certainly compared to the initial outlay of a 250 GT SWB, Osborn identified this Lusso as the ideal candidate. Osborn would seek to further optimise the Lusso for competition, removing weight where possible. During his ownership the Lusso would compete regularly: 00.04.1998 – Tour Auto – 4th IC, 24th OA – Paul Osborn & David Baines 00.07.1998 – Coys International Festival – Paul Osborn & Tony Dron 00.07.1999 – Coys International Festival – Paul Osborn & Tony Dron 00.10.1999 – Tour de Espana – 3rd IC, 9th OA – Paul Osborn & Robert Clements 00.04.2000 – Tour Auto -3rd IC, 24th OA – Paul Osborn & Robert Clements 00.07.2000 – Coys International Festival – 3rd IC, 16th OA – Paul Osborn & David Clark 00.10.2000 – Classic Adelaide Historic Rally 00.04.2001 – Tour Auto – Paul Osborn & Robert Clements 00.05.2001 – Coys International Festival – RAC TT Celebration – Paul Osborn 00.09.2002 – Goodwood Revival – RAC TT Celebration – Paul Osborn 00.09.2005 – Goodwood Revival Meeting – RAC TT Celebration – Paul Osborn 00.09.2006 – Goodwood Revival Meeting – RAC TT Celebration – Paul Osborn 00.09.2007 – Goodwood Revival Meeting – RAC TT Celebration – Paul Osborn 00.09.2008 – Goodwood Revival Meeting – RAC TT Celebration – Paul Osborn 00.09.2009 – Goodwood Revival Meeting – RAC TT Celebration – Paul Osborn After this competition stint, the car was refinished in the very fitting hue of Verde Pino and retrimmed in tan. Its competition specification engine 6-carb engine, discrete roll cage, sports exhaust and bumperless appearance remained as subtle hints towards its competition prowess. Purchased by the current keeper in 2019, this example was once more chosen as the ideal candidate for the ultimate ‘fast-road’ 250 Lusso. DK Engineering was chosen to carry out a comprehensive bare metal restoration of the car, whilst further tailoring the car to the usable on-road performance. The bare metal work including the removal of the bumper mounts visually, but they remain behind the metal sheetwork should this ever want to be reversed. The most recent hue of Verde Pino was retained and the car looks fabulous. The outside fuel filler was retained and the car has subsequently been fitted with an up to date bag tank. The upgrades have seen the engine bored out to 3.3 litres, up from the standard 3.0 specification; it breathes through 6 carburettors. Larger brakes are fitted which are fed cold air through ducting in place of the omitted inset driving lamps. Much like that of a Ferrari 599 GTO, the front discs now feature a cooling bracket to channel the cold air directly to the disc. The car has several upgrades from the ultimate racing 250, the GTO. From the outside, the wheel and tyre fitment have been selected. On the inside, the 3.3 litre Colombo V12 finds itself mated to a 5-speed, open-gated GTO style gearbox, its gearstick finding its place at the optimal height just inches from the steering wheel. No mean feat to place in the car, the gearbox alone with its optimised final drive cost upwards of £75,000. The engine note escapes through Snaps exhausts at the rear. Inside the interior was retrimmed by master Coachtrimmers, O’Rourke of Guildford in Connolly Vaumol 890 Chocolate brown with brown carpets. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright This example was supplied new to Maranello Concessionaires on 2nd October 1963, originally supplied as a demonstrator.
