  • 1969-jaguar-e-type-42-ots

Some sports cars made an impression once. Others continue to do so. The E-Type belongs to that rare class that transcends nostalgia. This particular Series 2 OTS was built on New Year’s Eve, 1968, and delivered to British Leyland in New York on February 11, 1969. Originally finished in Sable with a Cinnamon interior and black soft top, it still retains its original chassis number 1R8118 and matching engine number 7R 1909-9 — fully documented with the accompanying Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate. In 1998, the car was imported to the Netherlands and placed in a private collection, where it remained as a static museum piece for many years. In 2017, a comprehensive technical and cosmetic restoration began — and it was nothing short of remarkable. Everything that needed attention received it — and more. The engine was fully disassembled, rebuilt, and overhauled by a Jaguar specialist. The cylinder head was converted to run on unleaded fuel. The gearbox was professionally rebuilt, the drivetrain renewed and optimized, and the intake system, carburetors, ignition, and cooling were all fully addressed. Where possible, original parts were preserved; where desirable, technical improvements were made — including a stainless-steel exhaust, Spax shock absorbers, modern radiator with electric fans, and an electronic Revoltec fan controller. The bodywork received equal attention. Around 2000, the car was repainted in the iconic Primrose Yellow. Recently, paint and panels were partially corrected again. The soft top was reupholstered in high-quality mohair, including a matching top cover. The interior features elegant black leather. Seats were re-padded and re-trimmed, the dashboard was fully disassembled, cleaned, and rebuilt using original or new components. The radio was replaced with a period-correct unit, and even the luggage area was retrimmed. Electrics were fully rewired, tested, and made functional. All lighting, inside and out, was either replaced or restored, including a set of new H4 headlights. The battery, cables, and wiper motor were all refurbished or renewed. As a finishing touch, this E-Type received several tasteful upgrades: wide chrome wire wheels with Cooper whitewall tires, chrome spinners, a chrome luggage rack, and even an electric antenna — controlled from a button on the dash. The restoration is thoroughly documented with a photo album and a thick stack of invoices and parts lists. Virtually every wear-and-tear item has been restored or replaced. Everything fits. Everything works. Everything shines. This E-Type is not just road-ready — it’s ready for its next chapter. Whether that’s a concours lawn, a coastal road in the sun, or a discerning collector’s garage — it will get there with flair, finesse, and that irresistible touch of British refinement. 1969 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 OTS Cool Classic Club If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce (Passo Corto) 750F

Alfa Romeo's Giulietta Spider was among the many fruitful ideas of Max Hoffman, the astute and influential importer whose keen understanding of the American market birthed legends like the Porsche 356 Speedster, Mercedes-Benz 300SL, BMW 507, and introduced the Volkswagen Beetle to the USA. Hoffman counted Alfa Romeo in his portfolio and he persuaded the firm to offer a new two-seat Spider variant of the superb new mid-sized Giulietta, explicitly geared for American tastes with a new Pininfarina-penned body. His instincts proved correct, and the Giulietta, particularly in high-performance Veloce specification, spawned multiple generations of beloved open-topped Alfas. It was powered by a 65bhp,1290cc four-cylinder fuelled by a single Solex carburettor and featured two chain-driven overhead. The Spider was rear-wheel drive with drum brakes on all four wheels and the front suspension was independent with deformable wishbones, coil springs, hydraulic telescopic dampers and an anti-roll bar. The rear suspension was a traditional rigid axle, guided by longitudinal arms and reaction triangle, again with coil springs and hydraulic telescopic dampers. In 1956, they produced the so-called "first series" (series '750 D in the "normal" version and '750 F' in the 'Veloce') and in late 1958, the ‘second series’ was introduced with a number of changes including a lengthened wheelbase, however, nowadays the Giulietta Spider 'Passo Corto' (short door) models are the most desired and sought-after amongst collectors. On offer here is an absolutely stunning 'first-series' Giulietta Spider Veloce (750F) that, according to its 'Certifcato do Origine', was produced on the 31st July 1958 and was destined for the US market (New York). Its current, UK-based owner is a true classic car connoisseur with decades worth of owning and collecting experience and he was attracted to this particular car as it was a 'short-door', finished in his favourite colour (Mouse Grey), and was owned by the knowledgeable and much-respected, Jim Sullivan, Chairman of the Pacific North West Alfa Club. After his purchase in 2015, our vendor commissioned Vintage Racing Motors (VRM) to carry out a full restoration which they did over a period of time. The whole process was photo documented and the car is unquestionably finished to a higher standard than when it left the factory. The appropriate invoices remain in the file and total around $130,000, meaning that our vendor's investment in this remarkable little Giulietta amounts to over $200,000. In the interest of pure driving pleasure, a period-correct, 5-speed gearbox was fitted at the time, however, the original 'tunnel' gearbox is included with the car and available to inspect at our auction. Once the work was finished, the Alfa was sent here to the UK, registered in 2021 and has been enjoyed immensely. It will be serviced by marque specialist Chris Robinson prior to the sale. This is a unique opportunity to acquire a rare Alfa Romeo that has been restored to an extraordinary standard and we encourage interested parties to come and see the car at Silverstone, it will not disappoint. 1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce (Passo Corto) 750F Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1957-porsche-356-a-1600-s

In 1948, the very first prototype of the Porsche 356 came to life. Air-cooled, lightweight, and razor-sharp in its lines. No excess. No compromise. Just pure, timeless engineering. By 1955, the 356A arrived – a refined evolution, built on the same unmistakable Porsche DNA. And ours? A rare and exceptional example. Finished in the original and irresistibly elegant Graphite Metallic (5603) with red leather interior – a colour combination so unique, you’re unlikely to ever see it again. This is not a spec you choose from a catalogue. This is craftsmanship. Fully body-off restored in Italy, down to the finest detail. Everything aligns – from the trim to the stitching in the leather. Of course, it comes with Matching Numbers & Colors, and is Mille Miglia-eligible. For a more spirited drive, it is currently fitted with an upgraded 90 hp 356 engine – the perfect blend of authenticity and extra punch. Fully rebuilt in 2017. Prefer full originality? The original engine block is included. Since arriving in the Netherlands, this car has been further refined by true enthusiasts. Every bolt inspected, every mile a tribute to precision. This is not the kind of Porsche you see parked outside a café. This is a Porsche for the discerning few – those with taste, passion, and a deep appreciation for history. So, fasten your seatbelt. Turn the key. Listen. Enjoy. “You don’t find a car like this – it finds you.” 1957 Porsche 356 A 1600 S Cool Classic Club If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright In 1948, the very first prototype of the Porsche 356 came to life. Listen. Enjoy. “You don’t find a car like this – it finds you.” Other Cars from Cool Classic Club 1975-Peugeot-504-01.webp 1975-Peugeot-504-02.webp 1975-Peugeot-504-15.webp 1975-Peugeot-504-01.webp 1/15 1975 Peugeot 504 Cool Classic Club Netherlands 1983-Porsche-911-SC-01.webp 1983-Porsche-911-SC-02.webp 1983-Porsche-911-SC-15.webp 1983-Porsche-911-SC-01.webp 1/15 1983 Porsche 911 SC 3.0 Cool Classic Club Netherlands 1977-Ferrari-512BB-Competizione-Stradale-01.webp 1977-Ferrari-512BB-Competizione-Stradale-02.webp 1977-Ferrari-512BB-Competizione-Stradale-15.webp 1977-Ferrari-512BB-Competizione-Stradale-01.webp 1/15 1977 Ferrari 512BB Competizione Stradale Cool Classic Club Netherlands Last Featured Cars

  • 1969 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750

General History Enjoying increased success in the new line of GT cars that evolved in the early 60s, Alfa Romeo released the first series 105/115 series coupes in 1963. Spanning a prolific 14 years in production, the model run remained largely unchanged due in part to the remarkably clean and sporting Giugiaro penned body design. As iterations unfolded, a range of engines evolved leading up to the SPICA fuel-injected 1750 GTV (Veloce) which was offered for US delivery examples. The potent 1,779cc engine was a fantastic pairing for the 5-speed manual gearbox which, along with revised suspension geometry and an anti-roll bar fitted to the rear suspension, made for great road manners. Larger front disc brakes and calipers were also installed. These notable improvements made for a better handling car overall but also invited spirited highway driving making the GTV a more refined and versatile GT car as it entered the new decade. General Overview This example was purchased by the current and consigning owner in 2013. Service records accompanying the car date back to 1992 when the car was located in San Rafael, CA. According to information from the prior owner, the car had been in California for several years prior to the early 1990s. A 1992 service record includes an engine overhaul and clutch replacement, performed at 132,197 miles, along with front and rear brake work that same year. Service invoices continue through the 1990s and 2000s under the same ownership until it was purchased by the current owner in 2013. The car has been in the collection of a known Northern California Alfa Romeo collector and enthusiast for the past eleven years where it has been serviced regularly as part of their enjoyable use for various events and vintage car tours including the Motherlode 400 (six times) and the California Melee. Under current ownership service invoices outline regular oil and filter changes, fluid flushes, and general services were performed including the front seats professionally reupholstered by Franzini Bros. Inc. (2013) and in 2014 a new brake booster, driveline flex joint and 2 U-joints installed, front end suspension rebuilt, rear trailing arms rebuilt, new fuel lines installed, radiator re-core, new muffler and exhaust hangers installed, and valves adjusted. In 2016 new brake boosters and brake booster hoses were installed, new cone bushings in 2017, and in 2021 new transmission, motor mounts, and new shocks were installed, and all fluids flushed and filled. General Condition Today this Alfa Romeo offers handsome cosmetics including older fine flake paint that has been well maintained showing good gloss and consistent cosmetic finish. Minor door edge chips are evident, a few minor dings in the rear bumper, minor rock chips in a few areas, but otherwise, the exterior finish is ideal for enjoyable driving and local shows. The trim is in very good condition overall including the grille, which is very nice and properly fitted along with the headlights and front fascia trim. The lenses, lighting, bumpers, and various trim and script are in very good condition contributing to the overall cohesive visual presentation. The panel gaps are consistent showing good closures and tight fit, even for both doors which show good part lines. The floating hood, often lacking proper fit, sits flush and latches correctly. The glass is in very good condition with brand etching that appears consistent with original factory installation for the side, rear, and vent glass. Outfitted with later series Cromodora wheels, car wears a set of Vredestein 165/HR14 Sprint Classic tires with ample tread remaining. The interior features nicely finished black bucket seats which have been previously recovered and have a high-quality look and feel to the material and pleating as well as the correct woven center material matching the rear seat area. The overall interior presents very well with most of the interior surfaces appearing in very good condition, reflecting a satisfying blend of refinished items and original features. The door panels, various chrome trim, and side panels have a very high-quality feel to the finishes, and the carpeting appears to be more recently replaced, here too with high quality and correct type materials. The dashboard is quite nice, featuring clean and nicely detailed instruments with excellent color and contrast and smooth wood-toned inserts for the dash and center console. The black dash padding is in very good condition fronted by a sporty black padded Alfa Romeo branded steering wheel. A Nakamichi stereo with CD player is installed in the dash along with door speakers and matching black grilles. The trunk is clean and well-maintained. Under the trunk matting, a full-sized stamped steel spare tire is in place. Under the hood, the engine bay delivers a correct presentation reflective of original specifications. Though not detailed for show presentation, the engine appears largely correct in componentry and detail with a proper SPICA airbox, stain black cam cover, and various details consistent with Alfa Romeo manufacturing during this period. Overall, the engine compartment displays finishes that are typical of cars that have been driven and enjoyed, regularly serviced but not prepared for show. The undercarriage is representative of an unrestored example. Selected metal suspension components and chassis floor pans display typical surface aging as often found on unrestored cars, none of which offers any indication of structural compromise or damage to the chassis floor. The car is fitted with new shock absorbers, a correct-type exhaust system, and a handful of various newer soft lines. Correct aluminum casting pans and transmission casings, and other correct parts and components for this series car finish off the chassis. The car starts, stops, runs, and drives very capably as evidenced in the driving video accompanying the photos in the gallery. The gearbox operates properly, the clutch takes up nicely, and the brakes bring the car down smoothly and evenly on a firm pedal. Acceleration is progressive from the SPICA outfitted engine offering a balanced feel especially notable in the improved suspension offered in these later series cars. 1969 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750 Fantasy Junction If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1992 De Tomaso Pantera 90 Si

One of 41 produced, The Cultivated Collector’s 1992 De Tomaso Pantera 90 Si, chassis 0020, benefits greatly from loving previous ownership. Today, it presents as an exceptional and highly original example of the breed, sporting its original Gandini designed bodywork, as well as engine and ZF transmission. Having covered a scant 21k KM from new, and with recent servicing, 0020 is ready to run with the best. De Tomaso’s original Pantera can trace its roots to being built on the back of the Mangusta, a stunning machine that debuted in Modena in 1970 to critical acclaim from the general public and automotive press, the Mangusta would go on to be the marques most successful model to date. Back on North American soil, Ford was increasingly fraught with the concept of becoming the first American manufacturer to market a mid-engine sports car domestically. In the wake of the failed purchase attempt of automotive goliath Ferrari, Ford struck a deal with Italian Alejandro de Tomaso garnering them an 80% stake in his burgeoning Italian automotive company, De Tomaso. The result of this deal saw the De Tomaso Pantera subsequently available through Lincoln-Mercury dealership lots beginning in 1971. The Ford-De Tomaso partnership would falter before it truly had a chance to flourish, despite selling over 5,000 examples of the Pantera within four years, largely in part due to the effects of the 1973 Energy Crisis. This event resulted in Ford pulling all backing out of De Tomaso in 1975, which did have a silver lining of providing De Tomaso the opportunity to support continued development of the Pantera, gaining the car moderate sales success in Europe. Production of the Pantera continued long into the 1980’s, and as such the company's cornerstone Pantera, was rapidly becoming obsolete in the face of modern offerings from rival marques. De Tomaso’s strategy was to lean on the brilliance of legendary Italian designer Marcello Gandini, who was responsible for penning the achingly beautiful Lamborghini Miura, Countach, and Diablo. Evolving the original Pantera design from Tom Tjaarda, Gandini would comprehensively refresh the Pantera into its penultimate iteration, the Pantera 90 Si, catapulting it into the domain of modern supercars. Beauty, however, was not merely skin deep. Underneath the stunningly reworked Gandini bodywork lay an extensively modified, and lighter, version of the Pantera’s original steel monocoque chassis. Major changes included a lighter, more rigid tubular rear subframe, Brembo brakes, and a new Ford sourced 5.0L V8 engine which was overhauled by the DeTomaso engineers, enabling the Gandini designed Pantera 90 Si to catapult to 60mph in 5.4 seconds and achieve a top speed of 165mph. Striking an ideal balance between performance and cost, the Pantera 90Si was poised to be the perfect limited-edition, entry-level supercar for De Tomaso as the 90’s approached. While the original Pantera was wildly successful in North America, De Tomaso made the decision to not sell the Pantera 90 Si in the North American market. Production began in 1990 with De Tomaso projecting to build 75 examples, however the Pantera 90 Si would end up an unfortunate victim of the struggling global economy in the early 1990’s, with only a reported 41 cars being produced and sold to the public over a 4 year production run. 1992 De Tomaso Pantera 90 Si The Cultivated Collector LLC If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright One of 41 produced, The Cultivated Collector’s 1992 De Tomaso Pantera 90 Si, chassis 0020, benefits greatly from loving previous ownership. • 1953 Fiat 8V Coupe by Ghia

ANATOMY OF A JEWEL A diamond that emerged from a figurative coalmine, the Fiat 8V was a shocking anomaly for a mass-market manufacturer better known for pedestrian models like the diminutive Topolino or the 500. Upon its introduction in 1952, Road & Track magazine described the jewel-like 8V as “the biggest surprise of the year.” It was understandably a shock to the automotive world that, after decades of producing entry-level models, Fiat would suddenly introduce a boutique-production sports car featuring an advanced overhead-valve light alloy V-8 engine, Siata-fabricated chassis, and four-wheel independent suspension. The Otto Vu, as it was known in Italian, went on to be successfully campaigned by racing privateers all over the world, notably finishing fifth in class at the 1952 Mille Miglia, third in class at the Giro della Toscana, and becoming the eventual 2.0-liter champion in the Italian Sports Car Championship. A majority of the competition 8V examples were bodied in lightweight coachwork by Zagato produced in two discreet series, an arrangement that was no doubt precipitated by Elio Zagato’s success in racing one of the earliest examples. The Zagato-bodied cars shared the general proportions of the factory coachwork, a sublime design penned by Fabio Lucio Rapi. Two other coachbuilders were responsible for clothing double-digit batches of the 8V, as Vignale built at least 10 examples, and Ghia built 15 cars, ranging between chassis numbers 000035 and 000056. All but one of these cars wore the Giovanni Savonuzzi-designed Supersonic coachwork. The lone exception, the featured lot, was clothed in one-off aluminum coachwork attributed to Chrysler design boss Virgil Exner, though undoubtedly with significant input from company principal Felice Mario Boano, who was soon to exit Ghia to found his own eponymous design concern. ONE OF ONE According to Tony Adriaensens’ authoritative book Otto Vu, chassis number 000042 was dispatched for the Ghia plant as a rolling chassis in June 1953, occurring about halfway through the sequential and chronological output of chassis to the Turinese coachbuilder. It is not entirely clear what prompted the company to mount the chassis with a different design than the Supersonic, but it is easy to discern the coachwork’s relation to any number of cars that constituted the Italian-American design partnership, including Chrysler models such as the K-310 and d’Elegance concept cars, and the GS1; as well as roughly concurrent Ghia design projects for other manufacturers such as the Alfa Romeo 1900C Supergioiello and the Ghia Cadillac. As attested by period photos from the Ghia archives of the Ford Motor Company, 000042’s coachwork was graced with characteristically thin protruding fenders that framed inset headlamps, and a wide elliptical mouth grille adorned with two crossbars and foglamps. A decorative beltline gave way to a fastback tail surrounded by delicate tailfins, not unlike Savonuzzi’s Supersonic. The interior also showed special consideration, with leather upholstered seats and a driver-focused instrument panel dominated by a large binnacle housing a symmetrically facing half-moon speedometer and tachometer. According to a deep file of research by the collection manager of a former owner, bolstered by period advertisements from Road & Track; period auction catalogues; prior bills of sale and titles; former owner’s correspondence; and the research of John De Boer’s Italian Car Registry, the 8V was imported to the United States circa 1957 by a director or actor in Los Angeles, California. Advertised for sale in August 1957 by a Mrs. Weber of Downey, California, the car passed in 1958 to Charles Trammel of Culver City, who reportedly stored the car for the following 10 years. The Fiat was next acquired in 1968 by Dr. Lynn Gill of Palos Verdes Estates, although a divorce settlement prompted him to offer the 8V in September 1973, and he eventually sold the car at auction in May 1976 to Rick Cole of Marina Del Rey, the budding auctioneer. By this time the car’s original engine, number 000067, had been replaced with a proper 8V engine stamped with BS099 (reflecting that it was part of the 8V engine allotment sold to Siata for use in 208 S production). The car’s nose was also reconfigured with a more standard period look that included bulbous fenders with integrated headlamps, and an eggcrate grille. The alloy coachwork had been painted from its original light shade to rosso, the seats were reupholstered in matching red leather, and the original disc wheel covers were removed to expose the attractive wire wheels that lay beneath. During the ensuing decade, 000042 was sold to Tony Clarkson of Brewster, New York, before being acquired in April 1987 by 8V expert Tony Krivanek, who in turn sold the car to Larry Harvey and commenced a restoration that was part of the transaction. Before the work could be completed, Harvey decided to the sell the car, and buyer Paul Forbes of Redondo Beach, California, assumed the remainder of the refurbishment, for which the Italian car expert Tony Nicosia was retained. Steve Beckman was entrusted to conduct body corrections as needed and to refinish the coachwork. The quality of the restoration was recognized when Forbes presented the car at the 2002 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Mr. Forbes later sold the Fiat and in 2005 it was purchased by David Kelley of Woodside, California, and he presented the car at the 2005 The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering before driving it in the 2006 California Mille. In 2007, Kelley sold the Otto Vu to a collector based in Belgium, who exhibited the car a year later at the ultra-exclusive Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza where it garnered a class award, and the Paleis Het Loo concours d’elegance before offering it at RM Auctions’ London sale in September 2009. The 8V was purchased there by one of the most respected collectors in the United States, who presented the coupe at the 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, eventually selling it at RM Sotheby’s Arizona sale in January 2014 to the current owner. Under the consignor’s ownership, the coupe was notably accepted for participation in the Colorado Grand, generally recognized as the most exclusive touring event in the United States. In addition to being one of 114 total 8V examples built, and one of just 15 completed by Ghia, this unique 8V carries the unusual distinction of wearing one-off Ghia coachwork that distinguishes it from every other example. Characterized by the unmistakable design cues of Virgil Exner and Felice Mario Boano, and the veteran of an impeccable concours record, this truly unique Ghia is poised for further concours exhibition or driving enjoyment, being eligible for ultra-exclusive tours like the Mille Miglia Storica and the Colorado Grand. It would make a singular addition to any collection, particularly suitable for enthusiasts of the groundbreaking Italian-American concept cars of the 1950s. 1953 Fiat 8V Coupe by Ghia RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1955 Porsche 356 Carrera 1500 GS Speedster by Reutter

Porsche’s magnificent and complex Carrera “Four-cam” engine was designed in the early 1950s, penned by Dr. Ernst Führmann to power the 550 Spyder. The engineer later joked that he called it the “drawer motor” as his blueprints had to be hidden around Dr. Porsche—the project had not yet been approved. After the 550’s class wins in the Carrera Panamericana road races in Mexico, Porsche made the potent engine available in its production-spec Speedsters and Cabriolets. These special 356 models carry the name “Carrera” in recognition of those racing successes, and they are both extremely rare and much sought after today. The first pushrod-engined Speedster appeared in 1954, after the company’s New York importer, Max Hoffman, and its West coast distributor, John von Neumann encouraged the factory to offer a lightweight and spartan sports roadster to compete with the popular British and Italian sports cars of the day. Speedsters quickly established themselves as the cars to beat in their respective classes. After a 356 coupé fitted with a Fuhrmann engine won the gruelling Líege-Rome-Líege Rally in 1954, Porsche installed a Type 547 four-cam into a Speedster for testing, and similar engines were fitted to a pair of 356 coupés. Low-volume production—just 100 units—began soon afterward. The first 356 Carrera ‘Pre-A’ Speedster intended for public sale was completed in July of 1955, wrote Marco Marinello in the definitive Porsche Speedster Typ 540, and data compiled by the factory’s Olaf Lang places the total of Carrera Speedsters completed at 148. Visually, these special cars were nearly identical to the standard Speedster. Only small gold scripts on the front panels and tail, along with a few extra switches on the dashboard, signalled what lay beneath the engine cover. The dry sump 1,498 cc Type 547 engine was fed by a pair of Solex carburettors and made for 110 brake horsepower at 6,200 rpm. The Carrera's first gear was good for 65 km/h, second to 112 km/h, third brought 160 km/h, and almost 193 km/h flat out—almost unmatched by similar cars of the era. The example offered here, chassis 81079, was transferred from Reutter to Porsche as a complete car in November 1955. The Porsche was built in White with a Black Leather upholstery, according to a copy of its factory Kardex sheet (available to view on file), which also notes that the 356 Speedster was despatched on 4 January 1956. It was destined for the United States and was imported via New York to Hoffman’s famous sports car dealership. It is believed that for a short time, Hoffman used chassis 81079 for his own transport and for show at events, before trading the Porsche to Sweeney British Cars who supplied the car to Baron Daniel von Hermann, a German nobleman residing in California. Curiously, von Hermann entered many races under the anglicised pseudonym “Daniel W. Herman”, which appears in the race results for this Porsche chassis. Believed to be a VW dealer by trade, von Hermann was likely selected to receive this “Pre-A” Carrera, a model that was otherwise unavailable for public consumption. With Herman behind the wheel, chassis 81079 was campaigned extensively in Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) events beginning in 1956. Herman’s first podium came with a 2nd-place finish at the Novice Cotati in May 1957, either side of impressive showings at Buchanan Field and Salt Lake. Later in 1957, with the acclaimed driver Skip Hudson behind the wheel, the Porsche was driven to 1st at Arcata Main in September, before claiming victory in both the SCCA National Palm Springs and again at the SCCA National Leguna Seca, both in November. Herman continued to race the car until he sold it in 1960. Chassis 81079 had a succession of California-based owners throughout the 1960s and 1970s—with period correspondence on file between Porsche AG and Louis Lavato, who is believed to have acquired the car in 1970. In the ownership of Mr Lavato, it is unclear for how long the 356 Speedster was used before it was laid up and put into storage. In 1991, it was discovered by the acclaimed Porsche historian and racer, Wayne Baker, who acquired the car and kept it until the early 2000s. It is believed that Mr Baker sourced the period-correct replacement Type 547/1 engine that is currently fitted to the Porsche. The car had two further owners in the United States—the first of which performed sympathetic restoration work (invoices available to view on file)—before it was bought by its consigning owner in 2012, at that point returning to Europe for the first time. In the ownership of the vendor, the Porsche was carefully restored between 2019 and 2021. Within the history file are invoices detailing the restoration work, first with the Dotternhausen-based Boxer Motor & Klassiche Automobile GmbH, and later with the Mackenbeuren-based Autowerkstatt Ludescher. Between the two workshops, more than €55,000-worth of work was completed to finish the 356 Carrera 1500 GS Speedster in the condition it is presented today. After being returned to the consignor, the Porsche participated in the October 2020 running of the Mille Miglia. In addition to the many parts and workshop invoices in its impressive history file, the car is accompanied by a copy of its factory Kardex sheet, a 1992 certificate issued by Porsche Cars North America, a specification folio prepared by Karosserie Reutter, period correspondence from Porsche AG, and a FIVA Identity Card issued in December 2023. Highly eligible for prestigious events and rallies, including the Mille Miglia, this exciting and storied 356 Carrera 1500 GS Speedster would be a worthy addition to any Porsche collection. 1955 Porsche 356 Carrera 1500 GS Speedster by Reutter RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright Porsche’s magnificent and complex Carrera “Four-cam” engine was designed in the early 1950s, penned by Dr.
