- 1995 Porsche 911 GT2R
The 1990s resurgence of international GT endurance motorsport, born of the ashes of the defunct Group C formula, was characterised by its spirit, which returned to the sport’s roots and embraced levelling the playing field. And no car designed for this burgeoning new formula embodied this egalitarian philosophy than Porsche 993-generation 911 GT2R. Essentially a rear-wheel-drive version of the all-wheel-drive 911 Turbo exhaustively developed for competition, the GT2R must have felt like manna from heaven to privateer teams when Porsche announced it at Essen in November of 1994. Here was a fast, technologically straightforward and, comparative to its competitors, affordable racing car with which to contest – and genuinely compete in – the fast-increasing number of domestic and international GT series around the world. Porsche initially targeted 30 orders. Just three months after presenting the GT2R to the world for the first time, it had sold 45 cars. The 993 GT2R goes down in the marque’s fabled history as the final air-cooled international GT sports-racing car. “Here was a fast, technologically straightforward and, comparative to its competitors, affordable racing car with which to contest – and genuinely compete in – the fast-increasing number of domestic and international GT series around the world.” M005. An innocuous code, perhaps, but the ‘Rennsport Version’ factory equipment package it denotes defines the motorsport fundamentals of the GT2R. The long list of features chronicles the extensive transformation from road to race car, developed by the wizards of Weissach – Porsche’s Motorsports division. To the naked eye this included the deletion of the carpets, roof lining and engine-bay insulation. The singular Recaro racing bucket seat complete with six-point harnesses. The roll-cage welded directly to the bodyshell by Matter Industries. The three-piece centre-lock Speedline wheels. And, of course, the comprehensive aero package, characterised most obviously by those comically wide riveted on arches – facilitating the widest possible wheel-and-tyre combination. Naturally, the modifications were not just skin deep. Beneath the surface, Porsche’s engineers did away with the dual-mass flywheel, relying instead on a lighter single-plate clutch. They added an oil cooler to the gearbox. And an extra 22 horsepower was freed from the M64/81 3.6-litre air-cooled turbocharged flat-six engine thanks primarily to a considerably larger intercooler and the implementation of a state-of-the-art TAGtronic 3.8 electronic control unit. Such was its versatility that Porsche offered its privateer customers five different engine specifications, designed to adhere to the drastically different sporting regulations in racing series around the world. Multiple class wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Daytona 24 Hours and 12 Hours of Sebring tell only half the story when it comes to the competition success enjoyed by the Porsche 911 GT2R and the plucky band of privateers who ran them right around the world between 1996 and 2003. Chassis number 393099 Porsche built an initial run of 42 GT2Rs by the end of April 1995, including the incredibly special Speed Yellow example we’re thrilled to be offering. Chassis number 393099 was ordered in 1995 via Porsche Motorsports North America by the American eye doctor William ‘Bill’ Jackson from Denver, Colorado. Through the decades, Jackson had established himself as a pioneering collector of road-going and competition Porsches, with a particular penchant for low-mileage examples in time-warp condition. Given the specification of this GT2R, you’ll be surprised to hear Jackson had zero intention of ever racing it. He ticked virtually every box on the admittedly thin factory optional-extras sheet, chief among them the fast refuelling system, larger 380mm endurance-spec brakes, adjustable Bilstein dampers and TAG data-logging system. “Upon receiving his new thoroughbred Rennsport Porsche, Bill Jackson tucked the car away in his collection. And it remained there, carefully stored, for the entire 12 years he kept it.” The Michelin tyres, strut brace, switchable fuel-reserve system and Nomex seat upholstery complete the picture of what would have no doubt been an extremely effective competition car, particularly on longer-distance races such as the 12 Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Le Mans. Alas. Perhaps unsurprisingly, upon receiving his new thoroughbred Rennsport Porsche, Jackson tucked the car away in his collection. And it remained there, carefully stored, for the entire 12 years he kept it. Showing a mere 44 kilometres on the odometer, this Porsche was acquired by a Texan collector in 2007. As a man who called a racetrack his own, it must have been especially difficult to exercise restraint in not driving his new GT2R. But sure enough, he didn’t drive it. He kept chassis 393099 for six years, before the car joined the collection of its third – and current – owner and returned to Europe for the first time since it was delivered in 1995.. Today, having always been carefully stored and having covered just kilometres in 29 years, this Porsche 911 GT2R is unsurprisingly in genuine factory-fresh and flawless condition. Needless to say, chassis number 393099 retains its original matching-numbers chassis, engine and gearbox and all of its factory identification markers and stampings are present and correct. In July of 2024, Girardo & Co. specialist Davide De Giorgi travelled to our Turin facility, where this Porsche is currently kept, and carried out a comprehensive visual inspection, including a complete paint-depth reading. The purpose was to conclusively determine the originality of chassis number 393099. The results of the paint-depth readings can be distributed on request, but suffice to say, the inspection presented no reason to suggest that this GT2R is anything other than 100-percent factory original. The market for modern-era (post-1980) Porsches today is perhaps more discerning than any other marque, with mileage and corresponding originality of the utmost importance for collectors. The less a Porsche has been used, the more desirable it is – after all, you can always repaint or restore but ‘they’re only original once’, as the old adage goes. Further to its rarity, specification and significance as the final air-cooled international GT sports-racing model from Porsche, chassis number 393099’s minimal mileage (48 kilometres), clear provenance and according time-warp condition elevates this car not only above most of its competition counterparts but also towards the very top of the illustrious air-cooled Porsche tree. 1995 Porsche 911 GT2R Girardo & Co. - 1986 Porsche 928S
‘I wanted to build cars that were not something to everyone, but meant everything to some’ – Ferdinand Porsche The introduction of the Porsche 928 S in 1978 left the public confused, intended to replace the legendary 911. This complete 911 overhaul included a bulky V8 engine at the front, then suddenly no need to add extra weight in the front bumpers. One of the striking features of the 928 is its exceptional weight distribution. The 928’s transmission is rear-mounted for better weight distribution, as is the transaxle. This has characteristic features of the 928: the well-known Weissach axle. This is the rear axle that gets its name from Porsche’s R&D centre. The result creates solid biting grip and stability when cornering. This makes the 928 S a mid-corner killer that lets you accelerate briskly with plenty of grip. Fun fact: The Weissach axle is a forerunner of today’s active steering. Porsche never ceases to amaze us anyway. Above all, let’s not forget its looks. With its Porsche design and 1980s lines, the 928 S is a real eye-catcher of its time. This example has had a neat working life in Germany. Made a strong impression over the years with its special colour combination. Weinrot leather interior with Rauchquarz Metallic Exterior. No way, it has nothing to do with a German wine farmer who started transporting his red wine barrel and flew a bit enthusiastically over the bumps. Just a unique colour combination! On top of that, the M28/21 eight-cylinder delivers 310HP, mated to a manual transmission. - 1976 Fiat 131 Abarth Rally Stradale
SUMMARY A rare and genuine 131 Abarth Rally Stradale in outstanding original condition throughout. DESCRIPTION Apart from the quirkiness possessed by all Italian cars, it wouldn’t be unkind to describe the standard Fiat 131 as just another unremarkable family saloon, however, Fiat’s decision in 1975 to contest the Group 4 Rally Championship using the 131 and invite input from Abarth and Bertone was a game-changer. The company’s involvement in International Rallying brought untold publicity and success in the form of the 1977, 1978 and 1980 FIA World Rally Constructor’s titles, as well as the World Rally Drivers Championships in 1978 and 1980. Much to the delight of enthusiasts, it also brought 400 “Stradale” road-going versions, built to satisfy FIA Group 4 homologation requirements, on to the market. The alterations required to turn a bland saloon into an all-surface competition machine were significant and began with the chassis itself. Abarth engineers removed the rigid rear axle and replaced it with a fully independent MacPherson strut setup. They also developed a 2.0-litre twin-cam, in-line four-cylinder engine with a lightweight alloy 16-valve head, which sent power to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. The engine in the Stradale version breathed through a Weber double-barrel carburettor and produced a claimed 140bhp (single Weber 34ADF carburettor). Meanwhile, Bertone developed special bodywork, fitting a fibreglass bonnet and aluminium doors to reduce weight and adding wheel arches to accommodate larger 15-inch Cromodoras and tires, air intakes for cooling, and spoilers for additional downforce. The results were spectacular, a cohesive design that turned the two-door shopping car into a veritable seventies road-rocket. The car on offer here is indeed one of those 400 Fiat 131 ‘Homologation Specials’ and remains in outstanding original condition throughout. It was purchased by our vendor some years ago and has formed part of his private Collection ever since with minimal use during his ownership. Apparently it was found in Italy in 2005 showing a recorded mileage at that time of circa 11,000km and was secured through a French contact. At the time of delivery it was noted that, mechanically the engine was in need of a little care and attention, probably due to the intake and lack of air filters and so the decision was taken, for peace of mind, to undertake a complete rebuild to ensure that everything was as it should be. The rebuild was completed using all the correct parts including genuine Abarth pistons, however, the twin IDF Webers, that we understand were fitted from new as a factory option, were retained. Despite having had little use in recent years, we are told the little Fiat is superb mechanically and the whole car presents with an intoxicating air of originality throughout. This is a rare, genuine 131 Abarth that remains unmolested, recently serviced, including a replacement cam belt, and is ready to be enjoyed once again as intended, either out on the open road or forming part of any serious Fiat collection. 1976 Fiat 131 Abarth Rally Stradale Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1961-mercedes-benz-190-sl-2
This particular example, Chassis # 12104010022163 is said to have spent most of its life in CA with few owners. Benefiting from the dry climate, this example remained a running/driving example that by the late 1990’s had received a sympathetic cosmetic restoration and was retained as a driver with the long time owner. It was then acquired in the early 2000’s by the current owner and during their ownership further restorative efforts were carried out on the interior and updates were also completed mechanically. It was one of many in a collection of sports cars and was seldom used. Inspired by the likes of the German Restoration house Mechatronik, well known for their modern Mercedes-Benz conversions, the decision was made to complete a modern conversion on this 190SL. Over the course of nearly three years, from 2019 to 2022, this 190 SL had its 1.9 L straight-four engine replaced with the 2.3L straight-four engine from a 1993 Mercedes-Benz 190E. The conversion was completed by Ragtops and Roadsters, a well known restoration shop known for their showing winning restorations. A total investment surpassing $150,000 was made to ensure this conversion was completed to the highest standards. Numerous parts had to be adapted or fabricated from scratch to make the swap feasible with the entire process having been documented in 85 pages of detailed invoices. This was, in the end, a very well engineered conversion completed to a very high standard with a lot of miles added to properly sort and diagnose any loose ends or overlooked aspects. Today it is turn key and impressive to say the least. Upon purchase, the new owner will receive all of the owner’s manuals, the original jack and spare tire, the original 1.9 L straight-four engine, and all of the service records on file. While not original, the conversion on this 190SL brings this car into a completely different realm of reliability and usability, providing a unique experience that retains all of the wonderful looks one seeks in a classic Mercedes-Benz. 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL LBI Limited If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright This particular example, Chassis # 12104010022163 is said to have spent most of its life in CA with few owners. - 1994 Lotus Esprit S4
The Lotus Esprit (internally called the M70 project) came out in 1976 based on the management’s idea to offer a 2-seater Berlinetta with a central rear engine. We owe the remarkable design of the Lotus Esprit to the work of Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign. The S1, S2, S3 and S4 versions followed, as well as the V8, which closed the production of this legend in 2004, making it one of the longest-produced sports cars. The model presented here is a Serie 4 from October 1994, with the superb color combination British Racing Green over beige leather interior. It has been driven occasionally only in good weather totalling 89.500 Km in 30 years of existence. The S4 is powered by one of the latest evolutions of the in-house 4-cylinder in-line, with a 2.2 Liter displacement, fed by a water-cooled turbo and delivering no less than 268 horsepower to the rear wheels! This vehicle was maintained by the official dealer Thierry Verhiest in Ostend, and sold by him in November 2018 to its current owner. The latter, a true enthusiast who stored it in a private conciergerie, always entrusted it to a Lotus specialist for maintenance, the last one – a major one – having been carried out in October of this year. The following works have been done on the car in 2020: Replacement of front and rear brake calipers | New front and rear shock absorbers | New clutch cylinder 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 AD Sportscars If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1967 Maserati Mistral
Building on the success of its 3500 GT and Sebring models, Maserati commissioned Pietro Frua to create a new design that would be placed on an updated Tipo 109 chassis. Dubbed the Mistral, this new two-seat coupé was named after the strong winds blowing from the Mediterranean coast in the south of France. Introduced in 1963, the model’s success was instant and thanks to a steady flow of orders, the Mistral remained in production until 1970. Over the course of production, both the Mistral Coupé and Spider were built with different engine options. Only 383 Coupés were built with the 3.7-litre engine, and the Mistral presented here is one such example. Built on the first half of 1964, this Mistral 3.7 Coupe was registered in Italy on 23 August 1964. While most of its early life is unknown, by the 1990s the car had entered an Italian collection. Acquired by the previous owner in April 2010, this Mistral remained in their care for a decade, after which the consigning owner purchased the car as a restoration project. The restoration work was carried out by Dragon Classiche in Dubai, who performed a no-expenses-spared restoration. The red paint it had last been finished in was stripped off, and with the body prepared, the factory-correct colour of Argento Auteuil Metalizzato now covered the body penned by Pietro Frua. The entire drivetrain and suspension systems were fully rebuilt and the interior trimmed in the correct provide colour leather. This nut and bolt restoration was completed in 2024, invoices on file total more than $65,000 in just parts alone, while the complete workshop bill came to $60,000. Arguably one of the finer examples of the Maserati Mistral available on the open market, this Italian delivery example retains its matching-numbers engine and awaits its next chapter with a new owner. 1967 Maserati Mistral RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1979 Porsche 928 1
If you've always lusted after a lightly used, highly original first-series 928 with manual gearbox, then this incredible example is the car for you! It has the appearance of a four-year old vehicle with lovely patina inside and out. It still wears its factory paint to 100%, which must be highly unusual for a 45-year old automobile. With only 45,000 mls or 72,800 km on the clock, this 928 has always been expertly maintained and cared for. First registered on 15th November, 1978 and sold by Pioneer Porsche Audi in Denver, Colorado, this car has had only three previous owners and comes with a huge history file, including delivery receipt from Porsche and many service invoices for parts and labour. Please note that the uploaded documents are just some of many that come with the car. Also still present is the original Porsche pouch with owners' manual, warranty and maintenance book, specification, EPA fuel economy rating card, Blaupunkt stereo manual, Title etc. The current owner bought the car in 2020 and imported it to Europe. All EU taxes and fees have been paid and the car currently has a classic car registration in Germany. Before being registered, it was completely serviced to ensure many more years of trouble-free motoring. In addition to maintenance, the engine compartment and chassis received a dry-ice treatment and therefore present in fantastic condition. The original paint was detailed and now carries a protective ceramic coating. In short, this 928 would take pride of place in any stellar Porsche collection and is ready to be used and enjyoed. - 1951 Lancia Aurelia B20 GT
The Lancia Aurelia was practically unmatched when it first took its bow in four-door Berlina trim in 1950. Packed with technology and advanced thinking, Vittorio Jano’s masterpiece boasted a level of ingenuity, fit, and finish that was almost unparalleled. Built around a monocoque chassis, the Aurelia was powered by a brilliant 1,991 cc V-6 engine which drove the rear wheels via a clever transaxle. The recipe only improved the following year, when the Pinin Farina-styled B20 GT Coupé joined the model lineup. Borrowing the mechanical components from its more workaday sibling, the striking Coupé was not only handsome, it also soon proved itself in competition. Of the six distinct series that spanned the model’s production life, the earliest Series I examples are arguably the most sought-after today. Chassis B20-1340 is one such example, having been completed at the factory on 3 December 1951, finished in the appealing combination of Amaranto over a Grigio cloth interior. The car is understood to have spent its early life in its native Italy, prior to being imported to the United Kingdom in 1998, when it was noted on an accompanying historic V5 registration document as being finished in green. The Lancia was subsequently offered at auction in May of the following year, finding a long-term home with an enthusiast based in Midhurst, Sussex. In July 2016 the Aurelia changed hands once more, having been acquired by the current owner in a deal brokered by marque specialist, Thornley Kelham. Though listed in a 1989 ACI document as being fitted with engine number B20-1340, by 1999 the engine number is noted as being B20-1347. Following its acquisition, chassis B20-1340 was treated to a raft of restoration work at Powells of Ripon Ltd. An accompanying invoice dated December 2018 details more than £34,000 of work, including numerous engine and suspension components and almost £22,000 in bodywork repairs. A second invoice from the same company followed in October 2019, with a strip-down and inspection of the engine, honing of the cylinders, a regrind of the crankshaft, and a rebuild of the carburettors amounting to £31,418. In July 2019 the car was subject to a £12,172 retrim at GB Classic Trim, encompassing refinishing of the headlining, door cards, cantrails, flooring, and centre tunnel. A rally timer, auxiliary tachometer, roof-mounted air vent, bucket seats, and harnesses hint at a competition past and ensure it is fully prepared for participation in historic tours and rallies such as the Mille Miglia Storica, for which it in eminently eligible. Presenting today in its factory-correct Amaranto, this spectacular early B20 GT Coupé is a fine example of its type that benefits from a recent comprehensive restoration. 1951 Lancia Aurelia B20 GT RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
