- 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR
2-time Swiss National championship winner Campaigned by Harry Blumer, Edwin Kofel, and Edy Brandenberger 7th of 37 1974 Porsche RSR 3.0s produced by Porsche Believed to be one of the winningest RSR 3.0s raced Major and comprehensive mechanical servicing by Canepa 345 horsepower/245 lb-ft of torque 3.0-liter flat six engine One of the best handling Porsche 911 variants produced Participant in Rennsport IV, V and VI Includes complete engine rebuild at time of delivery A company such as Porsche did not make a name for themselves by accepting the status quo. With their racing customers’ insatiable appetite for performance and competition, doing simple upgrades would simply not do. Their 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 2.8 saw lots of success in the racing circuit, but with mounting competition Porsche knew they would need to design a car that broke the performance mold. Enter the 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0: a more powerful, wider, meaner and more visceral race car that to this day is known as one of the best performing naturally aspirated 911 race cars ever designed by Porsche. This bright green RSR 3.0’s story began being purchased from AMAG by Garage Zbinden for their customer and the RSR’s first owner, Harry Blumer in early 1974. The Swiss racer was heavily involved with Garage Zbinden from years of racing in a Porsche 911S and 911RS. Wanting a real race car, Blumer and his friend, Porsche Werks driver Herbert Muller, went to Weissach to order the RSR 3.0. Their primary objective for the 1974 season was to win the prestigious Swiss championship. Unlike many other championships, the Swiss winner had to participate in 5 sanctioned hill climbs in Switzerland, 5 circuit races, and 2 sanctioned airfield races in Switzerland. With a multifaceted racing series such as this, car setup and maintenance are crucial and a critical part of the winning team’s strategy. According to notes, Blumer’s success was largely due to Mr. Hans Ulrich Sharer, his mechanic from Zbinden. The 1974 season would be successful for Blumer, taking numerous first-in-class finishes along with respectable overall finishes. Some of the locales for the races included Dijon, Hockenheim, Casale, Osterrichring, along with other Swiss local cities for hill climbs. Based on his success of more than 5 podiums, he won the Swiss national championship in 1974. With his 1974 season now complete, he sold the car to its next racing owner, Edwin Kofel. Kofel, also a Swiss racer, owned the car for 1975 and 1976, actively campaigning the car in the same championship. Over the two years, Kofel would amass a total of 14 podium finishes, with four of those being 1st in class in 1976. After the 1976 season, Kofel sold the car to Edy Brandenberger, the RSR’s next future championship-owner. Brandenberger would yield the most wins in a season for the RSR, with 1977 totaling a staggering 17 podium finishes, seven 1st-in-class finishes and nine 1st place finishes. With his incredible driving ability along with the RSR’s performance, this RSR became a two-time Swiss National championship winner. Brandenberger’s racing with the RSR was not over however, as he continued to race the car in 1978 and went on to score ten 1st place finishes and 14 total podium finishes. After the car’s impressive consecutive racing seasons, it was placed into deep storage and would not emerge for almost two decades. This RSR has a consistent, documented ownership until present time. The car was restored after its long storage sometime in the early 1990s and upon completion was sold to John Leggat of the USA. Leggat would own the car for almost 10 years before passing away and was subsequently sold to Phil Bagley. The car would go between a few collectors before arriving being purchased by Canepa in 2007. During this RSR’s active racing career, it was able to amass quite the amount of victories with its racing drivers. Some of the most notable items about this car is how unscathed the chassis is, along with its almost untarnished racing record. Entering almost all of its races and finishing them, this is testament to how fastidiously maintained this car remained during its racing career. Both are rare occurrences for race cars of this era, creating a rare combination that only adds even more provenance to this car. During the ownership of its recent caretaker, the car has seen active historic motorsport racing, including the Monterey Historics at Laguna Seca and Porsche’s Rennsport events. During this time, it was authentically maintained and today remains very fresh mechanically. After a decade of ownership with historic racing weekends at different tracks, the owner spoke with Bruce Canepa about selling the car. It wasn’t long before the historic race car made its way back to Canepa. Upon return the car was extensively inspected per the “Canepa Difference”, an intensive scrutineering of all the car’s mechanicals and cosmetics. Once the inspection was completed, Canepa set out to bring the RSR to a high track-ready standard, servicing the mechanical systems as needed, resulting in a cost of over $63,000. Owning an authentic Porsche 911 RSR 3.0 that is highly original is both a unique opportunity and a rare one at that. This car’s complete original tub, structural elements, original oil tank, dash, pedal box, 917 brake calipers, original Bosch ignition boxes are still fitted to the car. The original chassis VIN is still intact and unaltered. This car represents an excellent opportunity to own a winning RSR 3.0 in fantastic condition. An early production unit ordered new by Harry Blumer, raced by Swiss drivers for 5 years and claiming two Swiss championships in the process, this excellent 1974 Porsche 911 RSR 3.0 will add value to any collection that it is a part of. Over the course of the 330 GT 2+2’s production run in Series I form—with earlier cars instantly identifiable thanks to the four-headlight layout—some 503 examples were made between 1963 and 1965. Of those, 453 were made in left-hand drive, including the example offered here. Marked as complete by the factory on 18 January 1965, the 330 GT 2+2 left the Maranello factory finished in Rosso paintwork over an interior appointed with Beige leather by Connolly. The Ferrari was equipped with a Tipo 209 4.0-litre “Colombo” V-12 engine mated to a four-speed gearbox with overdrive. Chassis number 6685 was destined for the United States and was thus configured by the factory in left-hand drive and with its instruments reading in miles. The car was imported by Luigi Chinetti Motors of New York and soon delivered to its first owner. A change of hands is noted in 1979 as the Ferrari moved to New Jersey, and again in 1988 when it was exported to England. It was later taken to Japan and returned to the United Kingdom before being acquired by its consigning owner in Spain. Now finished in dark red over a tan leather interior, this Ferrari is sure to be enjoyed by its next caretaker. 1965 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Series I by Pininfarina RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright Over the course of the 330 GT 2+2’s production run in Series I form—with earlier cars instantly identifiable thanks to the four-headlight layout—some 503 examples were made between 1963 and 1965. - 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello 2
We have Luca Cordero di Montezemolo to thank for the existence of the Ferrari 550 Maranello, arguably among the most beautiful and best-driving modern-era Prancing Horses of them all. You see, in 1996, after 23 years of mid-engined twelve-cylinder flagship Ferraris, he quite rightly pointed out that a front-engined Gran Turismo – built in the same vein as the marque’s greatest 1960s berlinettas such as the 250 and the ‘Daytona’ – would prove more practical for customers looking to actually use their cars. And he was absolutely right. Pininfarina’s Lorenzo Ramaciotti was employed to style the new car. Ferrari encouraged the history-steeped design studio to channel its greatest models of yesteryear. The prominent 250 GT SWB-like bonnet scoop, 275 GTB-inspired gills aft of the front wheels and 365 GTB/4-esque rear end were certainly not implemented by accident. Needless to say, the leather-festooned cabin was similarly sumptuous and well-equipped. “The 480bhp 5.5-litre V12 is nothing short of a masterpiece, delivering unctuous, unwavering power and torque right through the rev range.” As exquisite as the Ferrari 550 Maranello is to look at, it is – amazingly – even better to drive. The taught, dynamic and genuinely exploitable handling defies the size and weight of the car. The open-gate gearbox is every bit as good to operate as you’d imagine. And the 480bhp 5.5-litre V12 is nothing short of a masterpiece, delivering unctuous, unwavering power and torque right through the rev range. Naturally, it sings a very sweet song, too. Chassis no. 113266 The immaculate right-hand-drive Ferrari 550 Maranello presented here – chassis number 113266 – was delivered new to the United Kingdom on 12 September 1998, via the Loughborough Ferrari concessionaire Graypaul. The striking specification was nothing if not bold. Traditional Rosso Corsa paintwork with an interior trimmed entirely in Beige, including the steering wheel, dashboard, A pillars and roof, all of which were optional extras. Darker Castoro carpets and Rosso stitching provide a subtle contrast to the enticing swathe of beige. There are two key strands to this Ferrari’s appeal: the condition and the service history. Both are superb and a testament to the care and diligence of the car’s short list of owners. There are 15 recorded stamps from official Ferrari dealers here in the UK – so many, in fact, that a second Ferrari service book was sourced to log the most recent maintenance. Crucially, the service history authenticates the mere 23,850 miles that show on the car’s odometer. And that mileage is commensurate with the overall condition of chassis 113266, which is nothing short of exceptional. Save for a handful of tiny stone chips on the leading edge of the bonnet, the paintwork is flawless. Beneath the bonnet the engine bay is remarkably clean, with all its factory stickers present and intact. Inside, the blemish-free Beige leather upholstery has stood the test of time, retaining that sumptuous gloss. Everything is functional and working, too, including the air-conditioning – essential for those cross-continental road trips nearer the equator. Accompanying this Ferrari is all the factory paraphernalia you’d expect from a car with such provenance: the leather pouch containing the factory manuals, warranty and service booklets, the complete tool kit and the puncture-repair kit. Perhaps unsurprisingly, there is also a file comprising a wealth of accompanying invoices and MOT certificates. 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello Girardo & Co. - 2000 Lamborghini Diablo GTR
The inception of the Diablo GTR starts with the successful watchmaker and jeweller Philippe Charriol, who was well known both on and off the circuit. Charriol's love for racing saw him befriend Stephane Ratel of the SRO, who had previously founded the Venturi Gentleman Drivers Trophy (Philippe Charriol Super Sport Trophy for the final year). At the end of 1995 when Venturi curtailed the Trophy, Ratel sought a new opportunity. After the retirement of Lamborghini’s Countach, the factory production was down to just over two cars a day and in need of some vigour. Ratel knew that Diablo would work well on the track, and empowered by his pioneering spirit and great friendship with Charriol, the Philippe Charriol Lamborghini Supertrophy was born. Ratel partnered with French finance business LeasePlan to offer the Supertrophy competitors a simple package. Entrants were leased a Diablo SV-R, complete with everything needed to race and the costs were condensed into a monthly payment. Each of the SV-Rs were supplied with all the necessary parts to make the cars road legal should the client so desire at the end of the plan. The Diablo GTR was introduced in 2000 and based on the run out, highly limited Diablo GT. Heavily upgraded, the GTR would replace the SV-R as the Supertrophy contender. Power was up from 540bhp to 590bhp (and 25bhp more than the GT), while weight was reduced by a further 65kg, from the GT'S 1460kg, to 1395kg. A purposful, racing oriented car when compared to the GT; the GTR received a full roll cage as well as a large rear wing bolted directly to the chassis. The interior was sparse, with just the drivers seats and few creature comforts. This specific example (chassis 2 of 30) was the sole example to be built in a purple hue named Viola Cassis, which it wears to this day. Throughout its competition history, this specific Diablo was exclusively prepared by Charriol's own raceteam, Ecurie Riverside - for Charriol himself to race. The extensive race history of chassis 2 is as follows: 2000 Lamborghini Supertrophy #2 – 28.05.2000 – Lamborghini Supertrophy - Hockenheim, Germany – Team Riverside #2 – 11.06.2000 – Lamborghini Supertrophy - Silverstone, UK – Team Riverside #2 – 09.07.2000 – Lamborghini Supertrophy - Le Mans, France – Team Riverside #2 – 06.08.2000 – Lamborghini Supertrophy - A1- Ring, Austria – Team Riverside #2 – 10.09.2000 – Lamborghini Supertrophy - Monza, Italy – Team Riverside #2 – 15.10.2000 – Lamborghini Supertrophy - Laguna Seca, USA – Team Riverside #2 – 05.11.2000 – Lamborghini Supertrophy - Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain – Team Riverside 2001 Lamborghini Supertrophy #2 – 20.04.2001 – Lamborghini Supertrophy Monza – Team Riverside – Charriol/Gounon – 7th #2 – 28.03.2001 – Lamborghini Supertrophy Valencia – Team Riverside – Charriol/Clerico – DNF 2002 FFSA GT Championship #82 – 01.04.2002 – FFSA GT Nogaro – Team Riverside #82 – 28.04.2002 – FFSA GT Ledenon – Team Riverside #82 – 20.05.2002 – FFSA GT Pau – Team Riverside #82 – 30.06.2002 – FFSA GT Dijon – Team Riverside #82 – 08.09.2002 – FFSA GT Albi – Team Riverside – 13th/9th – Charriol/Lemee #82 – 06.10.2002 – FFSA GT Le Mans – Team Riverside #82 – 20.10.2002 – FFSA GT Magny-Cours – Team Riverside – 47th /16th – Charriol/Demigneux 2003 FFSA GT Championship #76 – 21.04.2003 – FFSA GT Nogaro – Team Riverside – 16th/19th – Charriol/Bertapelle #76 – 18.05.2003 – FFSA GT Dijon – Team Riverside – 29th/17th – Charriol/Bertapelle #76 – 09.06.2003 – FFSA GT Pau – Team Riverside – 7th – Charriol/Bertapelle #76 – 22.06.2003 – FFSA GT Val de Vienne – Team Riverside – 18th/7th – Charriol/Bertapelle #76 – 14.07.2003 – FFSA GT Le Mans – Team Riverside – 21st/22nd – Charriol/Bertapelle #76 – 28.09.2003 – FFSA GT Ledenon – Team Riverside – 19th/32nd – Charriol/Bertapelle #76 – 26.10.2003 – FFSA GT Magny Cours – Team Riverside – 32nd/19th – Charriol/Bertapelle 2004 FFSA GT Championship #80 – 12.04.2004 – FFSA GT Nogaro – Team Riverside – Philippe Charriol #80 – 02.05.2004 – FFSA GT Ledenon – Team Riverside – Charriol/Loger – 17th/35th #80 – 16.05.2004 – FFSA GT Val de Vienne – Team Riverside – Charriol/Loger – DNF/DNS #80 – 20.06.2004 – FFSA GT Dijon – Team Riverside – Charriol/Loger – 18th/35th #80 – 05.09.2004 – FFSA GT Albi – Team Riverside – Charriol/Loger – 12th/11th #80 – 26.09.2004 – FFSA GT Le Mans – Team Riverside – Charriol/Loger – 8th/36th #80 – 17.10.2004 – FFSA GT Magny Cours – Team Riverside – Charriol/Loger – 17th/12th #68 – 25.11.2004 – Bahrain Heat 1 – Team RSG – Bouchut/Charriol – 8th #68 – 26.11.2004 – Bahrain Heat 3 – Team RSG – Bouchut/Charriol – DNS #68 – 26.11.2004 – Bahrain GT Festival – Team RSG – Charriol/Bouchut – DNS #68 – 26.11.2004 – Bahrain GT Heat 2 – Team RSG – Charriol/Bouchut – 11th 2005 FFSA GT Championship #88 – 28.03.2005 – FFSA GT Nogaro – Team Riverside – Charriol/Beroujon – 26th/20th #88 – 17.04.2005 – FFSA GT Ledenon – Team Riverside – Charriol/Beroujon – 26th/18th #88 – 29.05.2005 – FFSA GT Dijon – Team Riverside – Charriol/Beroujon – DNF/DNF #88 – 26.06.2005 – FFSA GT Val de Vienne – Team Riverside – Charriol/Beroujon – 13th/22nd #88 – 04.09.2005 – FFSA GT Albi – Team Riverside – Charriol/Beroujon – DNF/DNF #88 – 25.09.2005 – FFSA GT Le Mans – Team Riverside – Charriol/Levy – 23rd/21st #88 – 16.10.2005 – FFSA GT Magny Cours – Team Riverside – Charriol/Levy – 22nd/20th Following its competition career, chassis 2 was placed in storage, remaining in the care of Philippe Charriol until 2010. Subsequently, the car was purchased by its only other owner and exported to the UK, where it would again remain in long term storage. At the time, it was road registered and is therefore accompanied by a UK V5 registration document. Purchased by DK Engineering in 2024, the car was extracted from storage and inspected in our workshops. The car had received a minor service in 2022 with Carrera Sport of Haywards Heath, but further work was needed to bring the car up to standard. DK removed the engine from the car, partially dismantling it and replacing all perished rubbers. The fuel cells were renewed and the whole engine bay was detailed including extensive use of dry ice. During the reassembly process the sliding windows were replaced and two original Diablo GT seats were fitted to the interior. The wheels have been refurbished too, as well as recieving new tyres. The Diablo has been treated to a comprehensive detail and presents ready to go. A rare opportunity to use and enjoy the Diablo GTR of title-sponsor Philippe Charriol, this example is available to view at our showrooms outside London today. 2000 Lamborghini Diablo GTR D.K. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright The inception of the Diablo GTR starts with the successful watchmaker and jeweller Philippe Charriol, who was well known both on and off the circuit. Other Cars from D.K. This Jensen FF MkI is a rare and beautifully presented example. Delivered new to Miss Sebag‑Montefiore and supplied through Ever Ready Garage in Dublin, the car originally left the factory in a special blue metallic over grey leather trim with a factory radio — details confirmed by the original pre‑delivery checklist and accompanying factory correspondence within the history file. The first owner retained the car until the late 1970s, when it passed to an Irish musician and entrepreneur, and it remained well-loved until being acquired at auction in 2018. Immediately after purchase the car was entrusted to Cropredy Bridge Garage — widely regarded as the world’s leading Jensen specialists — for a comprehensive and photographed restoration which was completed in 2019. Work included fully stripping the body to bare metal, removal of any corrosion, repair of chassis tubes where required, and a bare‑metal repaint in Charcoal Grey. The Chrysler‑sourced V8 was fully serviced and inspected; transmission, gearbox, suspension and all electrics were reconditioned to marque standard. The interior was sympathetically restored but deliberately left original in appearance to retain period character. The restoration is fully invoiced and extensively documented with photographs; total restoration expenditure exceeded £100,000. Cropredy Bridge’s in‑house capabilities — body, engine, trimmers and parts — make them the definitive workshop for an FF restoration, and their work on this car reflects that expertise. This Mk I, with its documented early history and showroom‑quality, Cropredy‑executed restoration, represents a desirable opportunity to acquire an FF that combines authentic provenance and meticulous workmanship. 1969 Jensen FF MkI The Classic Motor Hub If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1969 Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV
This lovely Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV Series I from 1969 is well known at the famous Tulpen Rallye and is well prepared for a new owner. The Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV replaced the Giulia Sprint GT Veloce and introduced many updates and modifications. The engine displacement was increased to 1779cc, producing now 118 hp at 5500 rpm. Significant modifications on the chassis, brakes and suspension resulted in a much better handling. Externally, the front grill style changed a lot. The step-front (Scalino) disappeared and 4 headlamps were fitted instead of 2. The 1750 GTV was a sporting GT, combining the high speeds, handling, safety and braking of a competitive car with real elegance, refinement and comfort. Many enthusiasts think the 1750 is the sweetest engine of all series. 1969 Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV Very Superior Old Cars If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1948 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport Pininfarina Cabriolet
This superb and rare short chassis Pininfarina convertible was sold to Prague when new. Not only is it a very early example which features its original and rare all alloy bodywork but it also has special details to the body made for the first owner. The pictures on file from its very early days show the rare and original bodywork. Already in the early fifties it arrived in the U.S.A. where it belonged to Alec Uhlmann, among others. We also have pictures on file from the late sixties when in the USA being prepared for restoration. In the early nineties it was comprehensively restored and after that it was sold to a Belgian collector who took great care of it. When the car came to Holland it had a non matching engine (un-numbered) and was then changed for another but correct SS engine. The previous owner had the engine rebuilt at the excellent mechanics at Mugello Engineering. We then sold the car to the current owner. Since then the car has entered the 2022 & 2023 Mille Miglia on the freshened mechanics. The car is accepted in the Registro Mille Miglia (eligible). With the car comes its history file with all appropriate FIVA papers and EEC registration. Few automobiles rival the elegance and racing lineage of the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500. The 6C 2500 became one of the most expensive and refined cars of its era, attracting a worldwide celebrity clientele, particularly those enamored with the highly desirable top-of-the-line Super Sport Cabriolet. 1948 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport Pininfarina Cabriolet Very Superior Old Cars If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1963 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Spider 1
Alfa Romeo entered into the postwar era with a new twin-cam, four-cylinder engine design, which was a configuration that would dominate the Italian automaker’s portfolio for decades to come. Initially arriving in Alfa Romeo’s Giulietta lineup in the mid-1950s, the twin-cam would go on to power the updated Giulia range and it would remain there until the early 1990s. Sporting elegant coachwork designed and built by Pininfarina, the 1.3-liter Giulietta Spider was a huge success and continued virtually unchanged in 1.6-liter Giulia guise when the latter joined the Alfa lineup in 1962. A hood scoop, necessary to clear the larger engine's taller block, easily identified the new model. The larger engine boosted maximum power of Alfa's venerable twin-cam four from 80 to 92 brake horsepower and the car's top speed to 109 mph. Reliability was likewise enhanced and the larger engine was noticeably smoother and less temperamental. The Spider offered here is recorded on its Museo Storico Alfa Romeo certificate as having been built on 29 November 1962 and delivered to New York the following January, finished in Rosso over Grigio interior. It was acquired by the late Terence E. Adderley in 2013, reportedly after 30 years of ownership by the seller, Andy Manganaro of Xenia, Ohio, a passionate enthusiast of Italian sports and racing cars of the era. It is still finished in the classic Italian shade of red, its original hue, with a black interior piped in red as a wonderful accent. While never fully restored, it was upgraded earlier in life to the more potent Veloce specifications with a 129-horsepower engine, delivering its power through a five-speed manual transmission. The engine itself was rebuilt for the prior owner in 1990 by well-known Alfista Jon Norman, with the receipt included in its file. Bearing a wonderful patina throughout, this would be an entertaining driver in the sun and surely much-appreciated at local cars-and-coffees. 1963 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Spider RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1983 Lamborghini Countach 5000S
The Overview The Lamborghini Countach is the quintessential 80s car. Designed by Bertone’s Marcello Gandini, the same mastermind behind the Miura and the Espada, it had the wedge shape and pop-up headlights that helped define that automotive era. The Countach began with the LP400, which packed a 3.9L V12 with 370 hp. The LP400 was superseded by the L400 S, which downgraded the engine to 350 hp but added wider tires, its signature fiberglass wheel arch extensions, and an optional V-shaped rear wing. Another update came in 1982 in the form of the LP500 S, which increased the engine size to 4.8 L and updated the interior. The 500 S is oftentimes called a 5000 S in some markets, but it is not the same as the LP5000 Quattrovalvole that came after it. Only 321 examples of the 500 S/5000 S were ever built, sealing the rarity of these already highly sought-after cultural icons. This particular example of a 5000 S, Chassis # ZA9C00500DLA12593, was imported to the US through Rarewala Enterprises in California and sold to its first owner, who was located in Illinois. It originally wore a Blu Acapulco paint job over a Champagne interior. Through comprehensive research and speaking directly with Marcel Wallenburg of the Countach Registry, we do believe that the first and original owner of this car was Walter Payton, of NFL fame. Payton played for the Chicago Bears for a stunning 13 seasons, racking up numerous accolades and leading them to a super bowl victory in 1986. In 1984 he was given a Countach as a bonus by one of his biggest sponsors, the Kangaroo Shoe company, after breaking an NFL record for rushing yards. He was widely known for his iconic Countach, finished in a dark midnight blue color (Blu Acapulco) and wearing a license plate that read “WP 34”, which he would drive around Chicago, often getting himself in trouble for speeding. The Countach was still a rare sight in the US at this time as any cars that were brought into the country had to undergo a rigorous process to become federalized by companies such as Rarewala Enterprises. According to Marcel Wallenburg, there were only two 5000 S examples produced in Blu Acapulco that were imported into the US. The first was this car, shipped from the factory in July of 1983. The second example was not completed and shipped till early 1984. The first entry on the CARFAX for our car listed here, DLA12593, shows the first owner residing in Arlington Heights, Illinois in November of 1984. Walter Payton famously resided in Arlington Heights, located on the north side of Chicago, and would be seen driving his Countach around the area routinely. In addition, we uncovered a newspaper archive from the Journal Gazette of Mattoon, Illinois, dated Wednesday, October 14, 1987, discussing Payton’s car being up for sale at Lake Forest Sportscars with 19,000 KM and an asking price of $79,000. This coincides with the second CARFAX entry, which shows DLA12593’s second titled owner residing in Addison, Illinois, in December of 1987 and 19,000 registered kilometers. Another excellent supporting fact is that when Payton owned the car, he had aftermarket speakers installed in the door, which are visible in one of the iconic Kangaroo Shoe posters, with the driver-side door up and Payton perched on the sill. Mr. Wallenburg was kind enough to reach out to one of DLA12593’s previous owners, who resided in Germany and owned the car when it still wore its original Champagne interior, to ask if the car had these unique speakers when he owned it. It took a bit of digging to find some old photos, but sure enough, the same unique aftermarket door speakers were present on the car during his ownership. So while we do not have defacto proof, such as an old title with his name and VIN on it, the puzzle pieces do align to the extent that we are extremely confident that DLA12593 is the famous and long lost Walter Payton Countach. For a better breakdown of all the evidence surrounding our conclusion that DLA12593 is the famous Walter Payton Countach, please watch the video above or check out the pdf in our documents section, both of which break down all the evidence. It appears that Payton possibly traded the Countach for a Ferrari Testarossa at some point in 1987. It looks like the Countach resided in the Illinois area for another 2 years until 1989, when the car made its way to Texas before being exported to Europe, where it spent the next few decades and was repainted red and then white, likely sometime in the late 1990s. About 10 years ago, this Countach, now residing in Germany, underwent a full restoration and repaint. During the restoration process, the U.S. specification side reflectors were filled in. This change can be viewed by looking at the inside of the quarter panel from the trunk area and while it does not detract from the current state of the car, it does provide evidence that in the past this was a U.S. specification car. The comprehensive restoration involved the removal and complete dismantling of the engine, with every individual component being cleaned and refurbished or replaced before being reinstalled. The body was stripped down to bare metal before the current black paint job was professionally applied. The interior was also reupholstered in black leather to match the new color of the body, with the seats now sporting contrasting blue piping. Every step of the process was photographically documented and bound in a hardcover book that is included with the car. In May of this year, the engine and gearbox were serviced and certified to be in perfect working order before the car was later sent from Wang, Germany, to Lamborghini of Copenhagen in Copenhagen, Denmark. We imported it back to the US in August, where we treated the undercarriage to a steam cleaning and replaced the battery. As it sits, this is a low-mileage and well-sorted example of a pre-QV Countach. With a storied past and freshly sorted mechanicals, this is one of the better ones to own and provides a great avenue into Countach ownership. And given the potential provenance of being one of the more famous Countachs in history, having been likely owned by the great Walter Peyton, there is certainly an added value to this already wonderful example. Upon purchase, the owner will receive two keys and the book detailing this car’s restoration. The Details EXTERIOR Body And Paint The black paint, while not original to the car, was professionally coated roughly 10 years ago and is in nice condition overall. Throughout the front bumper and hood, there are some minor small chips, as well as a 1-inch long scratch on the top left portion of the hood and a 2-inch long scratch on the lower left portion of the lip. The wide fender arches at the rear of the car have suffered some peppering as well. The body, however, is very straight, and the panel gaps align nice and even as they should. Glass And Trim The glass appears to be all original to the car and presents nicely. The trim around the windows in some areas, such as the corners, has suffered a small amount of flaking, but nothing that takes away from the overall appearance of the vehicle. Wheels 3 of the 4 wheels are in very good condition showing no signs of rash or scuffs. The driver-side rear wheel has a few knicks that are documented in our photo set. Notable Flaws There are some scratches and knicks around the front end and a good bit of peppering on the rear fender arches. A larger scratch is present on the hood as well as on the left side of the front lip. INTERIOR Seats And Surfaces The interior presents in fantastic condition, having benefited from being redone during the previous restoration. The leather is soft and high quality to the touch around the sills and dashboard. The steering wheel is showing signs of use with a few small scuffs on the sides, outside of this no major scratches or tears to note. The carpeting is in good condition, and all surfaces fit and look as they should. Functionality And Accessories During our testing of the vehicle, it appears that all items in the interior work correctly as they should. The doors open and close with ease, and all switches, buttons, and knobs appear to function properly. The gauges read their requisite functions as they should. ENGINE BAY AND TRUNK Engine Bay The engine bay is correct and tidy. All of the hoses and lines are correct and in wonderful condition. The electronics appear to be all newer and in good order. Painted surfaces are smooth and free of blemishes. It appears that it was well attended to during the restoration and has been kept in top shape since. There are no signs of any issues either cosmetic or mechanical. Trunk Area The front trunk is fitted with the correct spare tire with rubber hold-downs and is in great condition. Painted surfaces appear appropriate, and electronics and wiring look well tended to and in good order. There is a battery cutoff switch located on the crossbar above the spare. A bit of dirt and grime hides in the corners, but nothing that detracts from the otherwise tidy front trunk. The rear trunk is clean and in good order. The carpeting retains good color and texture and fits well. There are no signs of any issues, past or present, here. Underside The underside appears consistent with the rest of the vehicle. Solid metal throughout, with painted surfaces showing as you would expect, given the mileage. There are no signs of any issues past or present here and overall suspension components etc., appear well looked after and in good order. MECHANICALS Engine The 4.8L V12 springs to life with no hesitation and sounds wonderful with the aftermarket exhaust that it is equipped with. Once up to temperature, it settles into a loud and rumbling but consistent idle. Out on the road it makes fantastic power with no flat spots or stumbles in acceleration. Transmission The shifter slots in the gates smoothly with little resistance and provide direct and tactile shifting feedback. The clutch is heavy in stereotypical Countach fashion, but the catch point and take-up feel appropriate. It holds power easily throughout all the gears and rev range, showing no issues to speak of. Brakes And Suspension The brakes bring the car to a stop in a controlled manner with no issues to note. The suspension is smooth but taut, with no odd noises or behavior. Tires The car wears the correct and hard-to-source Pirelli P Zero Assimetrico tires on all four corners. The sizing is, of course, staggered, with rears being 345/35/ZR15 and the fronts 255/50/ZR15. DOT date codes for the tires read late 2011 for production, but the tires are in excellent condition, with ample tread, solid sidewalls, and plenty of life left in them. 1983 Lamborghini Countach 5000S LBI Limited If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright The Overview The Lamborghini Countach is the quintessential 80s car. - 1983 Nissan 240RS Group B
The Nissan 240RS was a compact yet powerful machine which left its rightful mark on motorsport history and competed in what was undeniably the golden era of rallying, the utterly bonkers 'Group B'. The car was developed by Nissan’s new motorsport division, Nismo, and powered by their revvy FJ24 2.4-litre inline-four engine producing 240bhp and offering remarkable performance. Combined with its Silvia-based chassis, the 240RS was agile and controllable on all sorts of terrain. Piloted by legendary drivers such as Masahiro Hasemi, the 240RS showcased Nissan's engineering prowess and bolstered their rallying reputation. Although short-lived due to the demise of 'Group B', its impact resonates to this day, earning the 240RS a well-deserved spot in the hearts of rally enthusiasts. It was produced in small numbers, as so many homologation specials were, with approximately 200 cars built between July 1982 and December 1982, 150 left-hand drive and 50 right-hand drive cars. It’s believed that around 30 of these cars in total were then utilised in WRC and domestic rally championships around the world. This right-hand drive car presents in wonderful condition and proudly wears the original rally livery of red, white, and blue. Since our vendor’s purchase in 2021, it's been cherished and used sparingly for a few displays and show runs, never having seen competitive racing action in their ownership. However, despite its pristine appearance, the car is fully operational, running and driving as well as it looks. Chassis #103 on offer here has a fascinating and well-travelled history. It was brought to South Africa by Nissan Motorsport SA as a 'road' car and was originally purchased by the renowned South African-born Nissan/Datsun Factory driver, Koos Roos. During its early days, the car participated in several autocross events on tarmac, then a few gravel events, before eventually being converted into full 'Group B' rally-spec. Whilst in South Africa, the car changed hands a couple of more times before being acquired by Mark Donaldson, who decided to venture beyond borders, shipping the car all the way to Greece before making its way to the UK in 2010, where it caught the attention of our vendor in 2021. The car's history file tells the story of its remarkable past. Among the valuable documentation in the history file is a summary of its previous owners, DVLA correspondence, a Letter of Authenticity issued by the Nissan Motor Company in 2010 confirming its status as one of the 200 units built, and its FIA/HTP papers, which expired in 2019 but are now in the process of being renewed. With such a storied past, a well-documented history, fabulous condition and rarity factor, chassis #103 represents a unique and sought after piece of Japanese rally history, ready to continue its legacy in the hands of its next owner. With most of the 240RS models finding their way into the hands of collectors and enthusiasts, this is a great opportunity to add a seldom-seen surviving participant from the bygone 'Group B' era, a time when rallying reached unparalleled levels of excitement. This 240RS should rightfully capture the attention and admiration of discerning collectors and rally enthusiasts alike. 1983 Nissan 240RS Group B Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
