- 1960-maserati-3500-gt-2
During the late 1950s and early ’60s, the Maserati 3500 GT was a refined and stylish choice for everyone from captains of industry to glamorous socialites, and this particular car is looking resplendent following a recent restoration. Maserati records show that chassis number 101.1142 was built on 10 November 1960, and dispatched seven days later to Maserati Representatives of California, which was based on Wilshire Boulevard in upmarket Beverly Hills. It subsequently spent some time in Maryland and was in Ohio by the mid-1990s, before eventually being brought over to the UK by musician Guy Berryman – bass player for the band Coldplay and a noted car enthusiast. He embarked on what was intended to be a full rebuild, with Jaguar Panels carrying out a bare-metal restoration of the bodywork. The Maserati was then sold to its current owner as an unfinished project, and was taken through to completion by Rafal Platek – a Krakow-based specialist who is renowned for his work on Italian cars of the 1960s. The end result is a 3500 GT that is beautifully presented in its original colour scheme of Bleu Cobalto with a Pelle Rossa interior. As part of a full retrim, the leather was supplied by Connolly to the original pattern and colour, while Wilton did the same with the carpets. All of the mechanical components were fully overhauled, including the powerful and sonorous straight-six engine, which received new pistons as part of a comprehensive rebuild. The Maserati Classiche documentation that accompanies the car shows that it retains its matching-numbers engine and gearbox, and there is also a full photographic record of its restoration. It is now being offered for sale as an extremely original and well-sorted example of this elegantly understated Grand Tourer. 1960 Maserati 3500 GT The Classic Motor Hub If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1957 Lancia B24S Aurelia Convertible
Stunningly conceived as a marvel of engineering, coupled with exquisite design, the Lancia Aurelia delivered what continues to be recognized as one of the most sensational sports car platforms of the golden era of Italian automobile design. Brimming with features that remained state of the art for decades to come, Lancia offered these advances years before competing rivals dared to advance their cars. The genius of the Aurelia began with Vittorio Jano’s near complete disregard for cost constraints, developing a race-derived 2,451cc OHV V6 hemispherical head engine topped by a single Weber 40 carburetor which delivered 118bhp at 5,300rpm. The 4-speed manual rear-mounted transaxle combined with sliding pillar fully independent front suspension and De Dion rear suspension resulted in excellent weight distribution while state of the art 4-wheel hydraulic braking (inboard at the rear) delivered sensational and competitive performance even for moderately skilled drivers. In competition settings, the Aurelia platform proved itself at many notable European competition venues, often besting more powerful competitors, due to the superior handling of the well-balanced Lancia. In addition to these features, the Aurelia was among the first to be fitted with radial tires. As much as the new was heralded for the dramatic performance elegantly captured by the Pinin Farina body design - modern and classic, a combination that continues to entice collectors and enthusiasts nearly 70 years later. The beautiful B24 body was crafted on a shortened wheelbase with clean lines unencumbered by excessive trim. The sleek fenders, low-mounted front and rear bumpers, a low-profile Lancia grille, and small doors, combined with the fluid fender lines and lightweight build philosophy, fulfilled the promise of performance and beauty. Built in limited numbers and rarer so today, a mere 521 B24 models were built. Production models were offered in both left and right- hand drive, reflected in the nomenclature as 'S' or B24S, for 'Sinistra' or left, rather than the commonly thought Spider designation. In addition to the significant improvements made in the model line after introduction in 1954, the convertible version improved on the spider version offering larger doors and delicately sculpted exterior door handles, a weather-proof convertible top, vent windows, and roll-up side windows. IN addition to these enhancements, the convertible also offered a vastly improved seating position and an improved gearbox and driveshaft over the spider variants. According to the 2019 Lancia Chassiche certificate, this beautiful Lancia B24S was completed September 12, 1957, finished in Grigio over Rosso interior. The certificate further identifies the chassis number, coach number, body number, front suspension number, and differential number, which are all present on the car. The certificate goes on to cite the engine number which “matches with the first equipment”. Though the earliest years of ownership are not yet known, the car was purchased in 1965 by an engineering student who recommissioned it after discovering it at a service station in need of repair. According to correspondences with a family member of the owner during this period, the intrepid engineer sent letters to Lancia inquiring about parts, eventually repairing it to good service. Though painted a different color at that time, the owner stripped the paint and refinished it in the original color using several coats of lacquer. In 1977, the car was advertised in Road & Track and was sold to its next owner, a Toronto, Canada resident who would amass 40+ years of ownership within his family. In 2015 the brake system was renewed including the rebuild of all four-wheel cylinders. The car remained in storage until sold to a dealer who sold it to the current owner in 2020. A set of Marchal driving lights were installed in 2020 and a new convertible top was installed in March 2022. Today this beautiful Lancia B24S presents as an authentic combination of long-term care and thoughtfully restrained restoration. The body and paint, refinished to a high level several years ago, remain very nice throughout with excellent coverage, displaying a smooth and glossy finish, showing only minor road chips indicative of the current and prior owner’s joy using the car as intended. Chrome finishes are excellent and, while some aspects of the restoration have settled over time, the car has uniformly mellowed to a very satisfying presentation. The finishes and exterior details have been executed with a high level of craftsmanship including very nice body panel gaps and excellent closures. A set of Marchal road lamps are mounted to the front bumper, adding to the performance nature of these cars. The car sits on correct Michelin X 165R400 radials, one of the first production cars to offer radial tires as standard equipment. The wheels are properly finished with beautifully polished trim rings and wheel covers bearing the embossed Lancia name. The curved single piece windshield is clear and unmarked, while the side glass (still retaining date coded Sekurit etching) raises and lowers smoothly, and the vent windows pivot out properly. The gorgeous black canvas convertible top was professionally restored in March 2022 using correct high-quality canvas including a sewn-in crystal-clear rear window. Inside the car, a rewarding combination of preservation grade finishes and gently aged interior features creates a very pleasant interior reflective of the years this car has been enjoyed by passionate enthusiasts. The dashboard and instrumentation are exceptionally well maintained featuring correct, original large dial Jaeger gauges, authentic switches, proper finishes, and a warmly hued wooden rim steering wheel fronting the twin gauges. The red leather seats have been more recently reupholstered, using just the right amount of inner bolster support, sewn with correctly pleated panels and piping. Door panels and inner panel coverings are nicely finished with proper fasteners and trim, including the chrome door pulls, chrome window cranks, and door latch handle. A set of red vintage style seatbelts have been added. The newly installed black canvas convertible top has excellent headliner, proper top bow fabric wrapping, and excellent latching mechanisms. The top raises and lowers with ease, latching tightly against the windscreen header. The carpeting is original to the car and remains quite nice, aided in preservation by a set of black and red coco mats. The trunk compartment houses a correct spare tire, factory blue jack, and inner lining materials that appear original including the correct diamond stitched panels and removable tire and battery access panels. The engine compartment is a wonderful combination of restored features and original components, many of which still bear their original finishes. The overall harmony of the engine is honest, authentic and in areas that have been refinished, they have been performed using correct factory finishes, proper wiring, and hoses, all of which have a combined patina befitting the history of this car. The engine is outfitted with the correct Weber DCL5 downdraft two-barrel carburetor, dual snorkel air intake, and the cooling system retains the rare metal radiator flap mechanism which operates under thermostatic control. Much care has been allowed to authentic surface treatments and correct finishes on the artfully exposed aluminum castings. The resulting combination of engineering excellence and enthusiastic interest in driving this car is exhibited in the heart of this wonderful Lancia, making lifting the hood an impressive statement of engineering prowess and decades of passionate motoring. The chassis has been nicely finished, though not to show standards, with correct and extremely rare original type dual exhaust and mufflers bearing proper finishes and coatings. No visual evidence of structural damage is evident which is consistent with the history recorded by the long-term family owner and subsequent owners. Engine and gearbox finned castings are in excellent condition as are the suspension components, inboard brakes, and other features. When studying the underside of this car, the remarkable artistry of Lancia engineering and cost-no-object directives of Vittorio Jano is evident even in the smallest details. Driving manners in this wonderful Lancia reflect the quality and care it has received by the previous and current owners. The smooth and satisfying driving experience is enhanced by looking over the twin fenders, centered by the lovely hood scoop, inviting the driver to imagine Italian countryside roads, wineries, and sunset arrival at a charming pensione. The sophisticated engineering, rear mounted 4spd transaxle and clutch, DeDion rear suspension, V6 Hemi head engine, with sodium cooled exhaust valves, and many other innovative features, all contribute to legendary performance and delightful driving. The car starts and runs quite well, with excellent throttle response. Oil pressure and running temperatures are excellent. The clutch and brakes operate as they should and no pulsating from the brakes. The gearbox works as expected, with no synchromesh issues, and a quiet first gear. The suspension and steering are generally good though the steering could benefit from adjustment. The car is accompanied by a factory jack, tool kit in tool roll, a Nardi twin carburetor performance kit including an intake, air cleaner, carburetor mounts, and various hardware, extensive photos and ownership documentation from the long-term family owners, and selected service records. ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED SPORTS CARS, COUPLED WITH EXCEPTIONAL ENGINEERING, THIS LANCIA B24S OFFERS A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY FOR THE NEXT FORTUNATE ENTHUSIAST TO ENJOY AND DRIVE A REMARKABLE EXAMPLE UNSPOILED BY THE RAVAGES OF TIME. Thoughtfully preserved with just the right amount of restoration and loving care, this Lancia is ready for the next fortunate owner to enjoy just as the talented and passionate craftsmen at Lancia intended for their distinguished clientele. Note: the car is currently titled as a 1958, even though it was produced as a 1957 model. 1957 Lancia B24S Aurelia Convertible Fantasy Junction If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1995 Lamborghini Diablo VT
Replacing the outdated Countach in 1990, the Gandini-penned Diablo took the world by storm. Hot on the heels of Ferrari and Porsche, the Diablo was Lamborghini’s first car capable of the mythical 200mph. Whereas today the SV derivative is regarded as the highest specification, the 1995 ‘SV’ reintroduced the name from the Miura and was competitively priced as the entry level model in the range. The VT on the other hand sat atop the lineup. Introduced in 1993, the VT was most notably different with the addition of its all-wheel drive setup. ‘VT’, standing for Viscous Traction could direct up to 25% of the torque to the front wheels to aid traction during rear-wheel slip. The difference was significant and greatly improved the handling characteristics of the car. The VT saw further updates over the standard Diablo. Brake effectiveness was improved with new ducting and revised four-piston calipers. Power steering was introduced on the VT as well as larger side intakes; ergonomic improvements saw deeper and wider seats, revised dampers and a lighter clutch. This example was supplied new in March 1995 to Portman Lamborghini of London in the lesser seen Midnight Bleu Metallic over light grey. Serving as a demonstrator for the first three months of 1995, the Diablo would find its first home in 1996 in Newcastle. Hall sold the car in 1996 and it would remain with its second keeper, Mr Robson until 2002. The Diablo changed hands, remaining local and was re-registered with its first private registration mark ‘5 PRY’. The VT would remain in the north-east of the UK until 2015 passing through a series of collectors, each one documented in the thorough history records. In 2015, the Diablo moved further south joining a prominent collection of cars and having covered just 14,900 miles by this time. The owner would retain the car for 6 years covering a mere 600 miles in during this period. Purchased by the current keeper in 2020, the car was placed into storage with DK Engineering. - 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 Superformance
This Superformance Cobra MKIII is a replica of the third-generation 427 Shelby Cobra. Superformance built the Cobra under license from Carroll Shelby, tailored to the customer's specifications, and is regarded by experts as the highest quality Cobra replica. The car we are offering was first put into use in the Netherlands in November 2001. Driving this car is a true thrill. Recently, the current owner chose to replace the already powerful engine with an even stronger one. A Roush 427R engine with 550 horsepower and approximately 800Nm of torque was selected. This engine has only 5,000 km on it. On this occasion, new side pipes developed by Samba Engineering were also installed. If desired, the original, slightly more muffled exhausts are included separately. The street-legal balloon tires, which are nearly unmatched in appearance (front: 235/60/R15, rear: 295/60/R15), are new. The exterior, in the most sought-after color combination, the immense power, and the sound of the heavy V8 never get old. A true enthusiast's car like they no longer make. The car is like new and immaculate. We are selling the car on consignment, and it will only be sold after approval by the current owner. 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 Superformance Veni Vidi Vici Classic Cars BV If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1960 Ferrari 250SWB Competizione
Chassis number 2177 GT is a particularly rare example of the Ferrari 250 GT Short Wheelbase. Its frame was sent to Carrozzeria Scaglietti in Modena on 6 September 1960 so that it could receive its hand crafted special order steel bodywork. The competition specification V12 engine – numero interno 612F – was completed on 25 October and it was dyno-tested two days later. The results are noted in the car’s build sheet and show that it produced an impressive 281bhp at 7500rpm. 2177 GT was an unusual steel bodied Competizione model. In that respect, it shares characteristics with 1993 GT and 1995 GT, which were the first two Short Wheelbases to be exported to the UK for British distributor Maranello Concessionaires. The late Richard Colton – the long-term owner of 1995 GT – used to take exception to anyone referring to his car as a Lusso. The history file for 2177 GT includes copies of letters from Colton in which he refers to it as being, in effect, a steel-bodied Competizione in the manner of 1993 GT and 1995 GT. I understand that possibly the Colton car is semi comp engine as per the H & H Catalogue description The engine therefore featured the high-lift Tipo 130 camshafts, lightweight con-rods and a 9.4:1 compression ratio, while its Weber 40 DCL carburettors had 32mm chokes. The car was also fitted with stiffer springs front and rear, the Competizione ribbed gearbox, a competition exhaust and brackets to accept a quick-lift jack. The window surrounds are in alloy and every conceivable comp feature was originally specified. The rear axle ratio of 8/32 was well-suited to hillclimb use, and 2177 GT was delivered new on 29 October 1960 to its first owner – a Mr Zimmerman in Switzerland. The supplying dealership was Italauto SA, which was based in Lausanne and was owned by Emmanuel ‘Toulo’ de Graffenried – a former racing driver who won the 1949 British Grand Prix. It’s said that the Swiss hillclimb fraternity preferred the steel body because it was stiffer, harder-wearing and easier to repair than aluminium. Zimmerman kept 2177 GT until 1962, when he sold it to Armand Boller. Geneva-based Boller was a banker and gentleman racer, and entered the Short Wheelbase for the famous Ollon-Villars hillclimb on 25 August. The event was a round of that year’s European Mountain Championship and attracted a strong field, and Boller finished an impressive fifth in class. In early 1963, Boller acquired a 250 GTO and would go on to race his latest Ferrari under the banner of Scuderia Filipinetti. Georges Filipinetti was a key figure on the European Ferrari scene at that time, and his competition cars were driven by the likes of Herbert Müller and future Formula 1 star Jo Siffert. Boller was part of that tight-knit group and it’s thought that Siffert might have had at least one outing in 2177 GT in a Swiss event, but so far it has not been possible to prove this theory, he is however mentioned in the Ferrari service sheet. After Boller bought the GTO, his Short Wheelbase was sold to another Swiss racing driver – Walter Ringgenberg. A Ferrari enthusiast who had previously owned an alloy-bodied 250 GT Short Wheelbase Competizione (1771 GT) as well as a 250 GT ‘Tour de France’, Ringgenberg was a hotelier and restaurateur from Bern. A personal friend of Ferry Porsche, he had raced a 356 during 1953 and ’54 before moving up to a Porsche 550 for 1955. On 18 March that year, he and works driver Richard von Frankenberg used the new car to set six international 1500cc class records at Montlhéry near Paris, and in June Ringgenberg shared it at Le Mans with Hans-Jörg Gilomen. By the time he bought 2177 GT, Ringgenberg had mostly given up circuit racing preferring hillclimb events, and he entered 2177GT in three events during 1964. In May, he finished third in class at Mitholz-Kandersteg, and went one better at Sierre-Crans-Montana in August. That event was part of the International Championship for GT Manufacturers, in which the GTO was being pushed every inch of the way by the Shelby Cobra, and it therefore attracted a strong entry. Pierre Sudan won the 3-litre class in his GTO with a two-run aggregate time of 15 minutes 6.8 seconds, but second was Ringgenberg, who posted 15 minutes 40.4 seconds in 2177 GT. It was a superb result in such a high-profile hillclimb. Ringgenberg ended his season with an appearance at Eigental, and in 1966 he sold the Short Wheelbase to a new owner in the US, racing driver, entrepreneur and car dealer Bob Grossman via the Swiss dealership owned by Paul Blancpain and Jo Siffert. Having grown up in Philadelphia, Grossman settled in Nyack, New York after serving in World War Two. He was a talented singer who used to pay for singing lessons by buying and selling cars – something that soon became his main business. He acquired a Jaguar dealership via Max Hoffman and got into racing with an XK 120 in Sports Car Club of America events. It was via Jaguar that he got to know Briggs Cunningham, and Grossman would race Lister-Jaguars as well as Lightweight E-types with the renowned American privateer. He also established a close relationship with Luigi Chinetti and over the years would gain considerable experience with various Ferraris, from an alloy bodied 250 GT California Spyder which he raced to fifth place overall at Le Mans to Short Wheelbases and GTOs. In 1963, Grossman had been elected as president of the Road Racing Drivers Club, an elite group that included a number of the most highly skilled sports car drivers in the United States, and the following year he took a Ferrari GTO (5573 GT) to ninth place overall at Le Mans with team-mate Fernand Tavano. According to Ferrari historian Marcel Massini, Grossman raced 2177 GT at the Mount Equinox hillclimb in 1966 and after spending some time in the Grossman fleet the car was sold on to fellow racing driver and Ferrari customer from Massachusetts Dudley Cunningham the following year to sit alongside the ex-works Ferrari 340 MM (0322AM) in which talented Marzotto brothers finished fifth overall at Le Mans in 1953. Cunningham kept 2177GT until 1975 racing it in SCCA events during the early years of his ownership. He sold it – via an advert that claimed it to be ‘ex-Jo Siffert’ – to the Ferrari historian and author Jim Riff, who was based in Illinois. He set about having 2177 GT restored. The process included an engine rebuild, and stripping the Ferrari to bare metal, which showed a remarkable lack of accident damage for a car that had been used in competition. When it was finished, 2177 GT finished second in class at the Ferrari Club of America’s concours in St Louis, having been driven there from Chicago by Jim in the pouring rain! During Riff’s ownership, the Short Wheelbase was often entered for concours events, and in 1985 he also raced it in a historic event at Elkhart Lake. That same year, 2177 GT appeared on the cover of Ken Gross’s book Ferrari 250 GT SWB, which was published by Osprey. Riff sold the car in 1986 to California based Tom Byrnes, who raced it in the Monterey Historics weekend at Laguna Seca in 1987 and 1989. Its next custodians were Phillipe Brecht and then Martin Van Doorne, who had the Short Wheelbase restored in 1994-95. Van Doorne later displayed 2177 GT at Ferrari’s 50th anniversary event in Rome and Maranello, before selling it to Geneva-based watchmaker and co-founder of the Swiss Ferrari Club Dr Peter Baumberger. In 1999, the car was acquired by Austrian Jean-Robert Grellet. Grellet had it repainted yellow and went on to enter the car regularly for events such as the Ennstal Classic, the Giro di Sicilia Revival Targa Florio and the Grand Prix Montreaux. Ferrari also invited 2177 GT to be part of its 70th anniversary celebrations at its Fiorano test track. Thanks to its incredible versatility as a competition car that can also be driven comfortably on the road, there are those who covet the Short Wheelbase above even the GTO. It certainly continued the level of motorsport success that enthusiasts had come to expect from the 250 GT series. With its Swiss competition history, its rare specification and its fascinating cast of characters, 2177 GT was very much part of this legendary period in Ferrari history. 1960 Ferrari 250SWB Competizione The Classic Motor Hub If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1969-lamborghini-espada
The Lamborghini Espada is a Gran Turismo that went into production in 1969, and was the first four seater offered from the company. It was designed by Marcello Gandini and built by Bertone, then assembled in Sant’Agata Bolognese. The first series was equipped with a 3.929 cc Lamborghini V12 engine and delivered approximately 325 HP, powered by six Weber double-barrel carburettors. The car was equipped with independent suspension and disc brakes on both the front and rear ends. The interior was very comfortable, with air conditioning and electric windows as standard. Production ceased in 1978 after 1.226 examples built, of which only 176 were from the first series, whose production ended in 1969. The example that we are pleased to offer is in perfect condition, in its Verde Acqua Metallizzato (Metallic Aqua Green) color and was subjected to restoration in 2016. The interiors are still original, they have been only “refreshed” and are in perfect aesthetic conditions. Mechanically in order, it’s still equipped with its original engine. Metallic paint and cassette radio player are two options of the time that this beautiful example, the 46th produced, boasts. The first owner resided in the province of Modena; after two years of ownership it was sold to a new owner resident in the province of Forlì and then landed with a third owner in the province of Messina, arriving in Milan in 1973 and remaining there for over 40 years. Even today, Italian license plates and documents are still maintained (square black plates). The example obtained the ASI “Targa Oro” Identity Certificate and is accompanied by its original owners’ manual. 1969 Lamborghini Espada Andrea Nannetti If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1991 Ferrari F40
Barely requiring an introduction, the Ferrari F40 set new benchmarks in design, engineering, and performance while commemorating Maranello’s 40th anniversary. Developed from the revered 288 GTO, the model was built upon a steel tube-frame chassis with four-wheel double-wishbone independent suspension, coil-over Koni shock absorbers, and four-caliper ventilated disc brakes. It was clothed in wedge-styled, wind-tunnel-proven coachwork woven from Kevlar and carbon fiber to a design by Pininfarina. Weight-saving features such as cloth upholstery on plastic-composite racing seats, pull-strap door releases, drilled pedals, and Perspex windows maximised the potential of a new 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V-8 equipped with IHI turbochargers and Behr intercoolers. European-spec cars developed 478 PS and 577 Nm of torque, the potent Tipo F120A engine was capable of launching the F40 to 100 km/h from standstill in just 4.1 seconds and achieving a top speed of 324 km/h. Initially earmarked for a relatively low production run of 400 cars, the popular F40 was ultimately built in a quantity of 1,315 examples, and the model today remains one of Maranello’s most iconic creations, appealing to supercar enthusiasts and Ferrari purists alike. This beautifully presented F40 benefits from a life of modest driving use and consistent upkeep that included at least one extended period of careful storage. According to a history report by marque expert Marcel Massini, chassis number 89385 completed assembly in May 1991, specified for the European market with instruments in kilometers, equipped with wind-up windows, and characteristically finished in Rosso Ferrari paint over an interior of Stoffa Vigogna upholstery. As confirmed by a copy of a warranty card on file, the Ferrari was immediately delivered to its first owner of record, Roberto “Pupo” Moreno, a Brazilian racing driver who found marginal success during a three-decade career that included stints in Formula One, CART, and sports car racing. After only 18 months of ownership, Pupo had the F40 stored at the Maranello factory and offered it for sale. The berlinetta was then acquired by an enthusiast in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and before long the car was stored for a further period at a local garage. In July 2007 the Ferrari resurfaced when it was driven by Matthias Weiland at the Ferrari Racing Days event held at the Hockenheimring and in March 2011, Mr. Weiland displayed the car at the Techno Classica in Essen. A few months later, the F40 was sold to a French enthusiast residing in Brive-La Gaillarde, and it was one of 500 Ferraris invited for display at the Sport et Collection exhibition at the Circuit Le Vigeant in June 2013. After passing to an Italian enthusiast around 2015, the berlinetta was more recently acquired by the consigning owner. In September 2020, the seller took the F40 for servicing at Modena Cars SA in Geneva, Switzerland, and the work was completed by the following February. Both left and right fuel tanks were replaced, the fuel lines were refreshed, and other work was undertaken to ensure the supercar’s smooth running; the work totaled CHF 116,500, and the invoice can be viewed in this car’s history file. The odometer of the Ferrari displays 9,400 kilometres at the time of cataloguing. Important stampings confirm that this F40 retains its matching-numbers body, chassis, engine, and gearbox. The F40 is documented with a report by marque expert Marcel Massini included in its history file, further to copies of the warranty booklet and service invoices from 2012 to 2020. Ideal for the marque enthusiast in search of a fine example of Maranello’s 40th anniversary supercar, this F40 is well suited for future display or driving enjoyment, beautifully exemplifying one of the most iconic models in the sports car pantheon. - 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 1
One of 23 Comp 427 Cobras, beautifully restored, 3k original miles, original motor/gearbox/diff/body. Highlights of this Cobra One of 23 427 Shelby American Competition Cobras 3,300 mile original with 1966-1969 competition history Original drivetrain and alloy body with documented ownership history History The Shelby Cobra continues to be one of the most revered sports cars of the post war era. Since its release, the Cobra mystique has continuously captivated generations of enthusiasts. Though the small block Ford 289 established the first strike, the Cobra legend became anchored to posterity with the introduction of the commanding 427 – a performance icon that continues to reign as the ultimate example of one of the greatest American sports/competition cars ever constructed. Unlike the earlier 289, the 427 was designed and built from the ground up by top Shelby American experts. Not merely a 289 with a larger motor, the 427 Cobra was a fully developed and specialized performance car, built to impress even the most capable high-performance drivers. The massive 427 featured a large diameter handmade steel frame, wrapped in a handcrafted aluminum body, featuring muscular fenders specially formed to make room for wide tires. The stance, power, and awe-inspiring performance included a now famous Ken Miles run of 0-100-0 test achieved in 13 seconds. But performance car engineering was moving just as quickly as the 427 dominated the scene, and soon after its introduction, production ceased. The move to mid-engine powered cars, the growth of the GT40 program, and the emergence of the profitable Mustang branded GT350 pushed Shelby American in other directions. 427 Cobra production continued through 1966 using both the 427 FE block (a proven winner in Ford NASCAR events) and the 428, but by 1967 the quick-striking Cobra had vanished. Though the 427 was an impressive performance machine, the most desirable Cobras were the factory built, competition-prepped 427 powered legends produced by Shelby American. Not merely a 427 with competition seat belts and race tires, the Competition Cobra was very specifically built. Features included massive Halibrand wheels and tires, a 42-gallon fuel tank, front and rear jacking points, roll bar, remote oil filter, turkey pan air box, vented inner body panels, competition brakes, reinforced suspension, dual aircraft batteries, and a differential oil cooler with electric pumps. In addition to being wickedly fast, these special cars rapidly emptied even well-stocked wallets – costing nearly 50% more than a street 427 and double the price of a new Corvette. This high-priced exclusivity translated into very low production. Just 23 427 Competition Cobras were built by Shelby American. Very few examples remain, fewer still in original condition, with original features, original body, and racing history. CSX3018 is one of those rare 427 Competition Cobras and is considered by several Shelby experts to be the best surviving example of these rare and historically important competition cars. History of CSX3018 Chassis #CSX3018 was billed to Shelby American on January 26, 1965 and assigned a work order on March 1, 1965. On November 18, 1965, an order for a Full Competition 427 Cobra was received from Jack Loftus Ford, Hinsdale, IL. The car was completed 'unpainted with a black interior', filling the request for order on March 8, 1966 and invoiced to Loftus Ford as “1 Competition Model Cobra, CSX3018” at a total cost of $9,650. The buyer, Richard H. Messersmith, Wilmette, IL, traded CSX2525 as partial payment on the order. After picking up the car, Messersmith attended the Carroll Shelby School of High-Performance Driving at Riverside, CA (April-May 1966) to enhance his racing skills. Messersmith would go on to race 3018 in SCCA Chicago region events including races held at Meadowdale, Wilmot Hills, Wisconsin at Lynndale Farms, and Road America. Photos of the car during this period show it competing with 6.5” front and 9.5” rear FIA Halibrand wheels. The formerly black side pipes would later be chrome plated by Messersmith. After a spin out on the grass at Elkhart Lake in 1966, the car was sidelined for mechanical updates and minor repair with historic references confirming minor surface damage to a small portion of the front of the car and an equally small portion of the rear, no frame damage or associated structural repair was required. The car returned for three more seasons of racing (10 races) completing the period racing portion of its history retaining its factory original alloy body, hood, doors, and trunk lid. After amassing just over 3,000 miles on the odometer, Messersmith offered the car for sale in the spring of 1969. His advertisement presented 3018 as a blue with black interior Cobra, licensed and titled with street equipment, in excellent condition for $6,500. Chuck Mollica, Milwaukee, WI purchased the car, disassembling it over several years in an effort to restore it. After Mollica’s passing, in 1976, 3018 was sold to Bill Kemper, Barrington, IL, as a complete project with all pieces and components including the original body, inner panels, fuel tank, gauges, engine, transmission, rear end, and interior pieces including the seats. By the 1990s, 3018 had been comprehensively restored and was featured at the 1995 SAAC-20, Atlanta, GA show finished in Guardsman Blue with 7.5”/9.5” Halibrand wheels, a chrome roll bar, chrome quick jacks, and black side pipes. The car received a Silver Award in the Concours Cobra class and was later offered for sale in 2018 when it was advertised and promoted with just over 3,000 original miles retaining all the original Competition Cobra components and features. Current presentation Today CSX3018 presents as an awe-inspiring example of Shelby American history. With the vast majority of the original 23 Competition Cobras sacrificed to the rigors of racing or welded back together after various shunts, 3018 remains a remarkable statement combining originality and restoration artistry. Every noted Shelby number is correct including the hood and trunk latch (both stamped with 3018) and the door hinges, while not visible, also similarly stamped. The traditional Guardsman Blue paint is excellent throughout, accentuating the curves and undulations of the original 427 aluminum bodywork. Reports and restoration accounts accompanying the car reference the alloy body work performed on 3018 when it was restored in the 1990s. These letters confirm that the original aluminum body has been retained and restored. The exterior trim, original grille, polished aluminum fuel filler, side pipes, and original quick jacks deliver refreshingly correct and historically accurate Competition Cobra features. The lights, lenses, and emblems are in excellent condition while the correctly finished Halibrand wheels and raw cast knockoffs with safety wires contribute to the perfect stance. The interior has been faithfully depicted featuring leather seating surfaces correctly contoured with proper pleat lines and correct padding. Black carpeting and black door panels continue the theme while a chrome plated fire extinguisher completes the competition details. Further notable items include the original speedometer indicating 3,338 original miles, the original center zipper black tonneau cover, original black top, and the original Triplex factory windshield and glass. A set of plexiglass competition screens are currently fitted to the car. The dashboard and instruments are properly arrayed with correct instrumentation displaying beautiful numeric details and chrome surrounds. The original wood-rimmed Shelby steering wheel exhibits a handsome warm patina proudly displaying the Cobra center emblem. Under the hood, the 427 engine is date coded January 5, 1965 and features a factory correct 4bbl carburetor with “turkey pan” carburetor. Correctly finished details throughout include chrome plated valve covers with competition decals, painted surge tank, and raw aluminum inner fender panels. The engine compartment and powerful engine display correct finishes including the originally stamped frame member and chassis plate, both of which bear the CSX3018 number. The trunk is correctly finished also featuring correct aluminum inner body panels, rivets, and correct hardware. The underside of the car is exemplary in finish and detail with beautifully prepared correct components consistent with Shelby American original construction methods and reflective of the indicated low miles. This Cobra is accompanied by an impossibly rare lightweight 4-bbl magnesium intake manifold, the original standard height Triplex etched windshield and chrome plated frame with plexiglass Cobra branded wind deflectors, the original black convertible top, the original black tonneau cover, a spare tachometer, and spare electrical components. Also included are copies of factory documentation, memorandums, and diagrams describing 427 Competition Cobra specifications, a copy of the original order form for CSX3018, and copies of service invoices under prior ownership. This beautifully restored 427 Cobra is documented in the Shelby American World Registry, defining the ownership spanning more than half a century. Remarkably original and one of 23 factory-built Competition cars, this 427 Cobra is sure to be welcomed at any major concours, competition event, or prominent National Cobra gatherings. Unprecedented for originality and documented history, this 427 Cobra continues to strike with precision as a highly desirable example from an unrepeatable period of Shelby American history. 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 Fantasy Junction If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1968 Maserati Ghibli
- Maserati, the excellent choice for the man of taste who just wants something special and different. - The Italian charm shines through, you immediately get the feeling that you are taking Gina Lollobrigida for a luxurious bite to eat. Maserati has a big name today, these types of models are the reason that Maserati deserves grandeur. The Ghibli, named after a warm air flow, and we now understand that here. When you cruise by car it feels like you are being taken on a magic carpet, all the space around you and a great force moving you forward. The sound of this Ghibli is exactly what you want from a classic eight-cylinder. There are a lot of things besides that that make the car great. At the time, the Ghibli was supplied with a ZF gearbox as standard. That piece of German technology ensures that you have the best of both worlds. The carriage is as Italian as can be, Giorgetto Giugaro designed the car for Ghia in his younger years. He then founded his own design house and continued with the Iso Grifo and De Tomaso Mangusta, not the least of which are cars. This Maserati Ghibli was originally delivered in Belgium. A matching numbers car, factory correct in Celeste Chiaro, impressive documentation and also the early Ghibli with the beautiful 4.7 block. Investment-wise exactly what you want. Between 2015 and 2018 they restored the Nut & Bolt car. The car is technically and optically in fantastic condition, and the interior is even completely original. The great thing about a Ghibli dashboard? A hundred buttons that no one knows what they are for, but everything works in this car. This sixties supercar is waiting for a new owner who enjoys long, comfortable rides with air conditioning. - 1996 Ferrari F50 1
The Ferrari F50 is widely considered to be one of Maranello’s most expressive modern hypercars, combining 1950s-style aesthetics with competition-developed performance technologies. Starting with a lightweight carbon fiber tub, Pininfarina mounted curvaceous new coachwork molded from carbon fiber, Kevlar, and Nomex honeycomb. The cockpit could be completed with either a removable soft top or a separate hard top stored in an accompanying road case, which allowed the F50 to strike the pose of a barchetta or berlinetta, encapsulating the best of both worlds. A new naturally aspirated 4.7-liter V-12 was dropped into this spectacular marriage of body and chassis in a mid-rear architecture that ensured optimal weight distribution. The type F130B engine began life in Ferrari’s 1992 Formula One car before undergoing further development in the 4-liter 333 SP sports car, which won numerous driver’s and constructor’s championships in IMSA GT and FIA sports car racing. With an enlarged displacement of 4.7 liters and yet detuned for more reasonable revving and tractable road manners, the new high-compression V-12 developed 513 horsepower and 347 pound-feet of torque, capable of launching the F50 to 60 mph from standstill in just 3.6 seconds, while achieving a top speed of 202 mph. Stopping power was provided by Brembo brakes with huge rotors (14 inches in front and 13.2 inches at the rear) anchored by aluminum pistons. Although the F50 abounded in Formula One-specification equipment, from the racing-style fuel bladder to the LCD dashboard instruments, the model was still appointed with creature comforts such as leather-trimmed seats, air conditioning, and adjustable ride height. More refined than the brutal F40, yet not as cossetting as contemporaries such as the McLaren F1, the F50 was a difficult car to pigeonhole; this was a machine built for pure experience, rather than the pursuit of any specific, granular performance benchmark. Writing for their June 1996 issue, the editors of Motor Trend summed up the F50 thusly: “All but devoid of body roll and pitch, the F50 has the immediate feel of a full-race go-kart, with not a gram of fat in its physique-just sinewy, instantaneous response. This power-hungry Ferrari gives its lucky driver a sense of Master-of-the-Universe-type control. Total omnipotence-without an in-depth background check. Cool.” Built from 1995 through 1997, the breathtaking F50 was earmarked for an official production cap of only 349 examples, ensuring a rarity that instantly established the model as a bona fide collectible. The F50 remains a favorite of marque-focused collectors, often serving as the centerpiece of modern Ferrari collections, and as a critical component of the illustrious “Big Five” hypercar portfolio that is relished by dedicated Maranello enthusiasts today. AN F50 IN MONACO This fabulous F50 claims fastidious single ownership by a Monaco-based collector for 13 years prior to a period of care by one of the world’s foremost Ferrari specialists, resulting in a highly desirable example. As confirmed by its production plate, chassis number 106400 is the 182nd example built, and in July 1996 the car was issued a manufacturer’s certificate of origin (a copy of which is on file). According to a deep file of documentation that includes former registrations, bills of sale, a Marcel Massini history report, and a Ferrari Classiche Red Book and corresponding Certificate of Authenticity, this beautiful European-specification F50 completed assembly in July 1996, finished in Rosso Corsa over a Nero leather interior with red seat inserts. Retailed through the well-known preferred distributor Garage Francorchamps in Belgium, the Ferrari was immediately sold to a local enthusiast who relocated to Monaco in 1999. Over the following nine years the car was regularly serviced by marque dealer Groupe Cavallari’s respected Monaco Motors. In early 2010 the owner sold the F50 to DK Engineering, the highly respected Ferrari specialist in the UK, and DK continued to intermittently service the car over the next four years. In January 2015 the Ferrari was sold to the consignor, who became the car’s fourth private owner. Six months later, the F50 was issued a Red Book from Ferrari Classiche that authenticates the continued presence of the matching-numbers chassis, engine, and transaxle, as well as its original body, ensuring that this F50 retains a high degree of originality. Offered from nearly 10 years of consistent care within the Dare to Dream Collection, chassis number 106400 displayed 20,910 kilometers (~12,993 miles) at time of cataloguing, and it is desirably accompanied by the soft top in the proper canvas bag, factory-issued flight case for the hard top, and owner’s manuals. This beautifully presented, mid-production F50 would make an exquisite addition to any sporting collection, particularly suited to collectors pining to fill a gap in their assemblage of Ferrari’s lauded “Big Five” modern hypercars. 1996 Ferrari F50 RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
