The idea, initiated in the USA, was to build a car to compete with the competition from England, on and off the racing circuits. Sporty, lightweight, minimalistic and affordable it had to be! The answer, the Porsche Speedster quickly grew into an icon. No wonder that the original Porsche 356 Speedster has, in the meantime, gained 5 generations of successors. With the 911 Porsche changed the Speedster recipe. While its predecessor was rather spartan and not too expensive, the Speedster with the Carrera 3.2 engine was placed firmly at the top of the range. The somewhat sober equipment code M503 hid some rather interesting details. The most open of all 911s usually left the production line with the flared fenders of the works Turbo look (WTL). But not only the wide hips but also the chassis and braking system came directly from the 911 Turbo. Comfort items in the interior remained mostly untouched, only the rear emergency seats had to give space to the new top construction. Like on the 356 speedster the function of the roof was really only meant to be used any emergencies in extreme weather. True to Porsche philosophy less is more (meaning more expensive), the new prize of the car was set at 13’000 Swiss francs above the normal cabriolet, certainly one of the reasons that only 1’942 Turbo look examples left the works. The example offered of this rare species was handed over to its first owner through the Porsche centre Berlin on the 15th of June 1989. After a change of ownership in the mid 90's the Speedster was acquired by a medical doctor from Hannover on the 23rd of December 1998 with then 57’960 kilometres driven. He had the engine of his Porsche tuned and in September 2001, with the help of Cargraphic chip, air volume measuring device and a sports exhaust, performance was increased to around 250 horsepower. In July 2004 job reasons brought the doctor to Switzerland and he took his beloved Speedster with him. To have it registered locally, the air measuring device had to be replaced with the original equipment and quite a bit of correspondence was necessary to register the car without a catalytic converter. In June 2005 the car, with its documented 236.6 horsepower, could finally be registered. In 2006, at 89’337 kilometres, the clutch and the flywheel were replaced and in 2008 a new softtop was installed. In June 2013, with now 99’000 kilometres driven, the rare Speedster was finally taken over by the vendor and added to his collection. Just like the previous owner he carefully maintained his Porsche but used it rarely. In July 2017 at 101’264 kilometres, all tyres, the electronic engine control unit and the starter motor were replaced. All receipts as well as a carefully maintained log since 1998 are available and will be handed over with the car. With its full leather interior, electrically adjustable comfort seats, air conditioning and a locking differential the 911 is very well equipped. The original exhaust system as well as the Cargraphic air volume measuring device are available and may be picked up by the buyer in Toffen. With four owners and around 102’000 kilometres driven and with a full service booklet, the Speedster is in very good and well-maintained condition. The most recent MOT was completed in July 2017. Due to a longer period of inactivity, a service and a general technical check should be foreseen.
