Ford’s long awaited ‘droop snoot’ RS 2000 was launched at the Earls Court show of October 1975. It was the most luxurious of the sporting Escorts of the time. Powered by an updated version of the 2.0-litre OHC Pinto unit, with a four into two exhaust manifolds coupled to a big bore exhaust system it produced 110bhp. This propelled the RS2000 from 0-60mph in just 8.5 secs and onto a top speed of 110mph. The 1979 Ford Escort RS2000 Custom offered here at Autostorico is finished in its original Signal Yellow with Black cloth interior trim. First registered on 7th November 1979 to Currie Motors, Kingston on Thames as their demonstrator before passing to its first private owner in May 1980. Purchased by an avid Ford enthusiast in December 1982 from the first owner who was a friend. During his 38-year ownership he commissioned ongoing sympathetic upgrades. These included a fully rebuilt Vulcan 2100 Pinto engine with Maxiflow unleaded head, Piper 285 cam, lightened flywheel, Twin Weber carburettors modified for Pinto use with manual choke and period Janspeed 4 branch manifold and exhaust system. The gearbox is a Type 9 5 speed, with vented braking upgrades from a 2.8i Capri. Other highlights include Original correct date stamped alloy wheels, three spoke RS steering wheel, Cibie headlights, original glass with number plate etching and original lockset with 2 keys. Offered for sale with an extensive history file which includes its original owners book pack, current V5 registration document, MOT certificates, numerous invoices and other related material. A truly unique opportunity to own a sympathetically upgrade 1980s icon.
