Vehicle history N/A

This 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS is a steel body car equipped with the Weber carburated engine. Finished in Argento (silver), this car is an original US-delivered example and retains its rectangle side markers on the front and rear fenders. One of the hallmarks of these early cars are the 14-inch Cromadora 5-spoke wheels - the design of which carried through to the late Quattrovalvole - but the smaller size with a thicker sidewall seen here fits the proportions of the design perfectly. As a GTS, this car is fitted with a vinyl-wrapped removable targa top and, with just the flick of a few levers, can be removed simply and stored behind the seats. At the rear of the car, the US-mandated impact bumper appears to have been modified to sit flusher with the body, dramatically improving the car's lines. The black interior features leather on nearly every surface, including the seats, door cards, armrests, center console, and dashboard. The layout is pleasantly simple—especially compared to the Ferraris of today. When you slide behind the 3-spoke Momo steering wheel, in front of you sits a gauge pod with a large 180-mph speedometer and 10,000 RPM tachometer, oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel gauges. In the center console sits Ferrari’s famed gated 5-speed shifter that is topped by a chrome shift knob, and behind that sits the HVAC controls, which is a combination of dials, switches, and toggles to control fan speed, temperature, and location of the air. A very period-correct Blaupunkt Richmond AM/FM cassette head unit is installed above the central vents and fits the car's overall look perfectly. Sitting behind the passenger compartment is a quad-cam 2.9-liter V8 mounted transversely. As a 1979 car, this 308 GTS is fitted with four Weber 40DCNF two-barrel downdraft carburetors that make an outstanding noise and help the car produce a factory-rated 237 horsepower. Paired to a 5-speed manual transaxle, the 308 is a joy to drive and thanks to its sub 3,000 lb weight, feels quick and lively even today. The 308 and later 328 are widely regarded as some of the most durable, dependable Ferraris ever produced and many have logged hundreds of thousands of miles with little more than routine maintenance. The Ferrari 308 is one of the brand’s most instantly recognizable cars and will remain highly sought after for a long time to come. This is a great example for the enthusiast looking for a driver they can get in and enjoy without so much concern for the cosmetics. As a carburated US-market car, this is one of the fastest and most desirable variants, and crucially, is offered in a color other than red.
