The Alfa Romeo 105/115 Series Spiders were produced in 4 Series and originally penned by Pininfarina himself. It is arguably one of the most appealing Alfa Romeo designs to date and remained in production between 1966 and 1994. Our car is the first series and the most desirable. It is also the last of that type and fitted the the larger and more powerful 1750 engine. The Certificate of Origin what comes with the car confirms it was manufactured on April 24th 1969 and delivered to Alfa Romeo Johannesburg in June that year. The body colour was Rosso with a black interior. The current owner has owned the car for some 17 years having purchased the car in South Africa and then shipping it here. It has been used sparingly but regularly maintained including annual servicing. Of note is a recent replacement clutch. Prior to the purchase, the car had restoration work conducted including paint, interior and brightwork. The body is in generally fine order with no evidence of any corrosion. The paint has a deep shine and presents well. On close inspection an area of the nose is showing signs of the paint cracking but this could be corrected. The nose ‘dimple’ is missing which indicates this was not retained when the car had bodywork in this area. This can be applied should the new owner wish to undertake that work however it presents perfectly well as is. The underside is appears free from corrosion with evidence of previous repairs however they have stood the test of time being conducted over 20 years ago. The panel gaps across the whole car are good and doors and boot close as they should with seals being correctly applied. The brightwork is excellent and it appears new, likewise the rear light clusters are fresh too and finish the car off nicely. Start the engine and you immediately know you are in an Alfa Romeo. The classic 1750 engine fires up with that familiar growl and then you are away. Out on the open road this car drives without fault with a surprising amount of go from the engine. The gearbox operates as it should without any issues with the synco’s.. The interior is a lovely place to be. The original steering wheel greets the eye, and the classic dash is very appealing and the instruments are clear and fresh. The seats appear original and are in good order without any marks or separation. A full set of new carpets finishes off the interior off beautifully. All the switches are spot on. The hood is in good order with only minor frosting to the rear window however with a good polish this could be improved. The car wears its correct wheels which have been refurbished with correct spec hubcaps which is good ot see. For the new owner this presents a wonderful opportunity to acquire a rare example of an ever-popular ‘Roundtail’ Alfa Romeo Spider with the desirable and correct 1750 engine The car comes with history documents and its Certificate of Origin. Whilst not a perfect example there’s a lot to like about the car and given its price it represents an affordable entry point for ownership of a Roundtail Spider without the need for any immediate work.
