A superbly engineered, lightweight Giulia race car, professionally built utilising the best componentry; effectively brand new with a spare engine and spares package, ready to race! Released in September 1963 at Alfa's newly opened Arese plant, later displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the same month, the Giulia Sprint GT was the first Giulia sport model in the Tipo 105 line-up. The styling was entrusted to the, then, 22-year-old Giorgetto Giugiaro, but with two Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Special Bertone’s and Alfa Romeo’s 2000 and 2600 Sprints already behind him, it’s easy to see that the car's looks were in capable hands and the 105 is regarded as one of his finest commercial efforts. The balance of glass and metal, the influence of the front and rear screens on the shape of the cabin, and the flat grille with incorporated headlamps were all considered ground-breaking styling features of the era. Nicknamed the Scalino or ‘Stepfront’ due to the bonnet sitting 1cm above the nose of the car to allow for improved cooling, the Sprint GT had a number of distinguishing features and upgrades over the standard GT. Externally, in addition to the chrome badging, there was an Alfa Romeo logo on the front grille, rectangular ‘Disegno di Bertone’ badges on the front wheel arches and a flat, chrome grille with rectangular mesh in place of the additional chrome bars giving a more sleek and aggressive look, especially when combined with the single-piece chrome bumpers with no over-riders. The Giulia Sprint GT was fitted with the 1570cc version of Alfa Romeo's venerable all-aluminium, twin-cam inline-four engine and were produced from 1963 to 1965, when the model was superseded by the Giulia Sprint GT Veloce. In total, 21,902 Giulia Sprint GTs found homes but only 2,274 of these were finished in right-hand drive. The car presented here is a right-hand-drive, UK-market car purchased by our vendor through well-known racer and race organiser, Julius Thurgood, as a complete rust-free shell together with component parts. Our vendor’s intention was to oversee / manage the build of a race car to conform to FIA/HTP Period G to 1969 for his wife to campaign, so no expense was spared (as a couple they have over 25 years of racing experience and have now decided to enjoy other pursuits), however, in the interests of more sensible running costs and versatility, the decision was made to prepare the car to a specification that would offer HRDC and HSCC Road Sports eligibility. The shell preparation was expertly carried out by Steve Lancaster (including a Custom Cages installation and paintwork by Chris Peart). The bodywork is all-steel (apart from an aluminium boot lid) and is essentially standard apart from strengthening in key areas and being seam-welded; the car weighs just 802.5kg (wet with 15 litres of fuel) - getting close to a GTA level of lightness! Recently finished to the highest of standards and painted in classic GTA livery style, it's now an immaculately presented and prepared race car, with all components being knowledgably selected and integrated. It's been 'shaken-down' with a successful run-out at Thruxton where it performed extremely well and is now ready to go racing. Specification: Engine Initially fitted with the traditional 1600cc unit but then a full race-spec 2000cc became available, which is now installed. This engine has been fully rebuilt by Dave Ashford of Brunswick Motorsport and is documented at 192.4bhp at 7,350rpm. 48 DCOE Carbs, 123 USB ignition. Internals bespoke to Dave Ashford. Exhaust is side-outlet SS by Zak Precision. Gearbox Rebuild 5-speed with Tilton clutch. Differential ‘Alfaholics’ race diff with LSD. 5.3 Crown Wheel & Pinion. Half Shafts rifle-drilled, 25 spline. Prop-shaft - race balanced, full length. Brakes Dunlop front new, rear rebuilt with Mintex F6 pads. All brake lines and fluid transfer are ATEC. Front and rear balance is ‘Alfaholics’ braced master cylinders. Suspension Set up by Cornering Force with spring rates and front ARB Nitron Dampers. Wheels GTA style 14" & 15" on Dunlop CR65s. Electrics Bespoke wiring loom with centre control box. Fuel System Alloy foam-filled tank in the spare wheel well. Twin Facet pumps and regulator. ATEC fuel line to carbs. Interior Momo QR Steering Wheel. Stack memory Tacho. Tillet seat with pad insert dated 2025. Sabelt belt dated 2024. Lifeline system in date. Spares 1600cc engine (complete) - previously utilised in a single-seater, in an unknown state of tune; to be considered as a donor unit for further development to full race spec / to conform to HTP regulations (with other minor modifications). Running spares fluids. Koni Dampers. 14" set with CR 65 GTA style. 15" set with CR 65 GTA style.
