Unveiled at the 1959 Paris Salon, the second-series 250 GT Cabriolet marked Pininfarina’s refined response to the concurrent California Spider—offering a more luxurious and road-focused alternative to its competition-derived Ferrari sibling. Purpose-built for grand touring, the 250 GT Cabriolet Series II was equipped with Ferrari’s advanced Tipo 128F outside-plug “Colombo” V-12 engine, delivering both refined performance and impressive drivability. Complementing its mechanical prowess were numerous upgrades introduced throughout production, including four-wheel disc brakes and overdrive, while inside a fully trimmed cabin and expanded luggage capacity ensured a comfortable and practical driving experience over long distances. Limited to just 200 examples, the Series II Cabriolet is now regarded as one of the most desirable open Ferraris of its era—delivering performance on par with the legendary California Spider, while offering markedly superior comfort, practicality, and weather protection. Long celebrated as the Spider’s more elegant and refined counterpart, the 250 GT Cabriolet Series II has rightfully secured its place among the most collectible and enduring grand-touring Ferraris ever produced. Constructed as the 119th example, chassis number 2447 GT was completed in April 1961 destined for Ferrari’s home market of Italy. It was originally finished in Grigio Conchiglia over Pelle Rosso trim. According to records provided by marque historian Marcel Massini, the car was sold new just days later to HRH The Prince Don Gonzalo de Bourbon via M G Crepaldi Automobili, the official Ferrari dealership in Milan. A grandson of the former King of Spain, the Prince, later Duke of Aquitaine, is believed to have kept chassis 2447 for the next seven years before parting ways in 1968. Following its sale, the car passed through a series of five Italian caretakers before its acquisition by the consignor, a resident of Rome, in 2009. While in Rome, the Ferrari was subject to some restoration work performed by marque specialist Scuderia Baldini. In 2018, the car was certified by Ferrari Classiche; it is offered with its important “Red Book”. The car notably retains its matching-numbers chassis and engine and is accompanied by its rare factory hard-top roof. An ideal candidate for concours entries, prestigious marque gatherings, or spirited participation in major touring events, this stunning 250 GT Cabriolet stands as a benchmark example of what is among the ultimate open-top Ferraris.
