  • 1986 Mercedes-Benz 420 SL

The Mercedes-Benz 420 SL is the rarest model in the popular R107 series, and is recognised by marque experts as being a ‘sweet spot’ in the extensive range thanks to its powerful yet refined V8 engine. The 420 SL being offered for sale here was sold new by Normand (Mayfair) Ltd on London’s Park Lane, to an owner who lived in Hyde Park Crescent. It was specified with options that included the expensive and extremely desirable air-conditioning, rear seats, and an outside temperature gauge that took the place of the central air vent on the dashboard. It is superbly presented in perhaps the best colour combination for an R107: Nautical Blue with Beige leather. The front seats are heated, while the dark-blue fabric soft-top is thought to be the original. The car is also supplied with a matching factory hard-top – plus a stand on which to store it when it’s not in use. This 420 SL has an extensive history file that includes the original maintenance booklet and owner’s manual, both of which are still in their original leather wallet. The maintenance booklet records its comprehensive service history, starting with its pre-delivery inspection at the supplying dealer. There are also numerous recent invoices from The SL Shop, which knows this car well, having sold it twice since 2012. It’s been used sparingly in recent years and has still covered only 67,000 miles, but it’s been lovingly maintained along the way and performed faultlessly on a trip to Scotland in the hands of the current owner. Offering a peerless blend of style, versatility and engineering quality, this Mercedes 420 SL not only benefits from the raft of improvements that were made to late-model R107s, but it’s also a well-specified car in its own right, featuring what many people believe to be the best colour scheme and the best engine. 1986 Mercedes-Benz 420 SL The Classic Motor Hub If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1961 Jaguar E-Type Series 1

‘Project ZP’ Like prairie fire ripping through the country. That’s how the storied Jaguar test-driver Norman Dewis described the public response to the £2,000 150mph E-type when it was introduced at Geneva in 1961. By the time the doors had shut on the world’s premiere motor show, Jaguar had secured a staggering 500 orders. But the marque’s astute founder Sir William Lyons knew better than to rest on any laurels. To capitalise on the early wind in the E-type’s sails, at a time when demand was far outstripping supply, early cars were allocated to customers who Lyons knew would fan the publicity flames. And the easiest way to achieve that in the 1960s? You went racing, of course! These specific E-type Roadsters, just seven in total, were specially prepared for competition and are today known as the ‘Project ZP’ cars. With the Ferrari 250 GT ‘SWB’ and the Aston Martin DB4GT firmly in its sight, Jaguar’s chief designer Claude Baily made a small number of effective changes to the E-type, including adding a close-ratio gearbox, a competition clutch and a lightweight flywheel. The engine underwent perhaps the greatest changes: an experimental ‘gas-flowed’ cylinder head, competition internals, a higher compression ratio and trumpets beside the carburettors. Who doesn’t love trumpets? “To capitalise on the early wind in the E-type’s sails, at a time when demand was far outstripping supply, early cars were allocated to customers who Lyons knew would fan the publicity flames. And the easiest way to achieve that in the 1960s? You went racing, of course!” This was genesis. Suffice to say, the E-type forged an incredibly strong record on the racetracks of the world, scoring its first domestic victory a mere month after ‘Project ZP’ was introduced and racking up 24 international podium finishes in total. Chassis no. 876176 – A tale of two halves The story of this fabulous 1961 Jaguar E-type 3.8 Roadster is a tale of two halves. The influential East Coast distributor Max Hoffman imported chassis no. 876176 to the United States in November of 1961, finished in Carmen Red over a Black interior. And the car remained happily on the other side of the Atlantic for 50 years, returning to England for the first time in 2011. Enter DK Engineering. It was then that the renowned British historic-car specialist, which famously forged its reputation with Jaguars rather than the Ferraris for which it’s most closely associated today, encountered chassis 876176. Satisfied with its remarkable originality, DK undertook a comprehensive restoration, opting to prepare the Jaguar to the aforementioned ‘Project ZP’ specification for use in various historic motorsport events. The brief from the outset was clear: to build a competitive and versatile historic competition car that could contest – and realistically win – on both the racetrack and on road rallies such as the Tour Auto and Modena Cento Ore. The latter required retaining a level of real-world useability on the road. Upon completion of the exhaustive restoration, this E-type was given the registration ‘492 YUF’ and campaigned by DK Engineering over several years in the fiercely popular Pre ’63 GT series by Motor Racing Legends, Peter Auto’s Fifties’ Legends championship. And with great success, we might add – in fact, in DK’s hands chassis number 876176 never finished outside the top five. Most pertinently, this E-type contested the Kinrara Trophy at the world-famous Goodwood Revival on a number of occasions. And won it, not once but twice. The ‘most beautiful race in the world’ is for pre-1962 GT cars and is, like every grid at Goodwood, fiercely competitive. That this Jaguar has triumphed twice is proof of its raw pace and a testament to the technicians who restored and prepared it. Chassis number 876176’s penultimate owner, a keen historic racing driver with a remarkable collection of significant cars, campaigned the car on a small number of occasions, adding two further victories to its competition résumé at Paul Ricard and Vallelunga. The car’s current FIA Historic Technical Passport is valid until 2031. Whether you’re a veteran historic racing driver looking to add to your cabinet full of winners’ trophies or looking to stud your calendar with unforgettable historic road rallies, this incredibly versatile competition-specification 1961 Jaguar E-type 3.8 Roadster is the perfect car with which to do so. With its proven track record, this is undoubtedly among historic motorsport’s most successful pre-1963 Jaguar E-types. 1961 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Girardo & Co. • 1950 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport Cabriolet by Pinin Farina

According to Angelo Tito Anselmi’s book, Alfa Romeo 6C 2500, chassis number 915766 was purchased new by Prince Aly Solomone Khan and registered in Como under the registration “CO 30455” on 31 October 1950. At the time, the Prince was married to the famed American actress Rita Hayworth, for whom he purchased a second 6C 2500 SS. In February 1953, the Prince sold chassis 915766 to Tessiture Gildo Guenzoni S.r.l., and it was reregistered on 6 March 1953 as “VA 36245”. In September 1956, the car passed to Umberto Torreta, and then in November of that year to Michele Verola, for whom it was reregistered in Milan. Later exported to the United States, in 1985 it was owned by Hobart Phelps of Sacramento, California, and subsequently by Knute Kolmann of San Carlos, California. In 1991, it was returned to Italy by Claude Ferioli and joined the current Italian owner’s collection in 2004. The Alfa Romeo received a four-year restoration and is now presented in a striking shade of black over a scarlet leather interior and matching soft top; the all-black wire wheels complete the utterly striking appearance of the stunning Pinin Farina coachwork. The car is accompanied by a copy of the estratto cronologico as well as a collection of restoration photos and import documentation. It is a spectacular automobile and one deserving of discerning ownership. 1950 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport Cabriolet by Pinin Farina RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1995 Honda NSX Manual Targa

Honda’s first supercar, the NSX set new standards for the class on its arrival in 1989, possessing the expected stupendous performance while remaining as civilised and easy to drive as the average family hatchback. Honda was already committed to Formula 1, supplying engines for the all-conquering McLarens of Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna, and was able to call on the latter to assist in developing the NSX, which is the only road car ever to benefit from the great Brazilian driver’s expertise. The result was a car that wowed the motoring press when the scribes first got their hands on a pre-production prototype in the summer of 1989. Despite being developed during F1’s turbo era, the NSX’s 24-valve 3.0-litre V6 engine was normally aspirated. Equipped with the new VTEC variable valve timing system, the all-alloy unit produced 270bhp initially, which was good enough for a top speed of 168mph and a 0-60mph time of less than six seconds. Those performance figures put the NSX on a par with Ferrari’s 348 GTB, but in terms of comfort, ergonomics, driving dynamics and build quality, the NSX was in a different league entirely. Sadly, this superiority was not translated into sales, and by the time production ceased in 2005, fewer than 20,000 NSXs had been sold. The Honda NSX Targa being offered here at Autostorico is a February 1995 example, which was supplied new by Bob Howard Acura of Edmond, Oklahoma, USA. Finished in Formula Red with Black leather interior, this extremely rare 5 speed manual example has covered an indicated 34,230 miles. Having spent its early years overseas the car was purchased by its current owner in 2013 and shipped to the UK. The car has an extensive history file from its overseas ownership to its arrival in the UK where the car has continued to be extremely well cared for the with the latest invoices from IN Racing from 2014 to 2021 showing a continued schedule of maintenance. Some of the exterior features on this stunning Honda NSX include a removable hardtop, dual exhaust system, Forged Aluminium wheels, body integrated rear spoiler with LED stop light. The interior features include leather, Bose Sound system, Automatic climate control and cruise control. 1995 Honda NSX Manual Targa Autostorico Partners LLP If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1951-lancia-b50-aurelia

With its flowing, elegant design and advanced engineering, this Lancia Aurelia B50 convertible perfectly reflects the Italian marque’s status during the early post-war years. It’s thought that this car was displayed at the 1951 Geneva Motor Show, and then sold via W Ramseter & Cie, a Geneva-based Lancia concessionaire. Its first owner was Anna Cobleigh Payne-Jennings, who took her Aurelia back to the UK but sadly died the following year. In the summer of 1952, it was bought from her estate by a Mr Jenkins, an American enthusiast who was visiting the UK. He then used the Lancia for touring around Europe, an epic trip that included a visit to the Nürburgring in Germany. For many years, it was assumed that its unique exterior details had been added by Pinin Farina, but more recently Jenkins’ son discovered a photograph that had a note on the back written by his father. It said: ‘Before modification by Saoutchik, Paris.’ It therefore appears that his European trip also included a visit to the famous French coachbuilder, which carried out modifications such as the addition of front auxiliary lights and extra chrome detailing. Jenkins took the Lancia with him when he went back to the US, and kept the car in Palm Beach until the mid-1970s, after which it moved to his house in Richmond, Virginia. Among his other trips were a visit to the 1954 Sebring 12 Hours, and the Aurelia was resprayed twice during his long ownership: once in pale blue soon after he bought it, and then back to the original white in the late 1950s. After Mr Jenkins passed away in the 1990s, the Lancia was sold to Los Angeles-based restorer Rick Fitzgerald, who carried out a comprehensive multi-year rebuild. Such was the quality of his work that the Aurelia won a class award at the 2005 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The Lancia was sold to its next owner in 2006 and used only sparingly until it was offered for sale by Gooding & Co at Pebble Beach in 2010. It was bought by a British enthusiast whose wife had immediately fallen in love with it, and since being shipped back to the UK it has deservedly won multiple concours awards. It has also been featured in magazines such as Classic & Sports Car and Auto Italia. Now being offered for sale, this beautiful Lancia Aurelia comes with an original brochure and instruction book, plus a copy of its bill of sale, and even a photo book that documents its tour of Europe in 1952-53. 1951 Lancia B50 Aurelia The Classic Motor Hub If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1965 Aston Martin DB5 4

Put simply, there is no other Aston Martin as iconic as the DB5. Launched in 1963 as the company’s flagship grand tourer, the more powerful, accomplished, and modern revision of the DB4 instantly became an object of desire. Interest in Newport Pagnell’s most expensive model went stratospheric after an unforgettable appearance in the 1964 box office smash Goldfinger. But the DB5 was so much more than a handsome film prop. Now celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2023, the DB5’s allure, fame, and desirability have only increased over the interceding decades since its release. Based on the outgoing DB4’s chassis, the DB5 boasted nearly 170 updates and modifications. Mechanical updates to the running gear included a redesigned suspension, with the front adjusted for camber, and Armstrong Selectaride shock absorbers added in the rear. All four corners were equipped with servo-assisted Girling disc brakes. The most notable advancement was the new 4.0-litre, inline six-cylinder engine—an enlarged version of the DB4’s all-aluminium, dual-overhead-camshaft unit, breathing through three SU carburettors as on the previous DB4 Vantage. The enlarged engine provided spirited acceleration, with some 40 pound-feet of additional torque making it more responsive in the lower rev range. Coupled with a fully synchromesh ZF five-speed manual transmission, the result was a true driver’s car—swift, surefooted, and comfortable. Rolling off the production line in autumn 1965, chassis 2197/R would be one of the final DB5s built. Coated in the brilliant colour of Fiesta over a Black Connolly leather interior, this Aston Martin was despatched to the distributor Eton Motors before being sold new to wholesale tobacconist C. Baker & Co. of Portslade, Sussex, once one of the largest privately owned businesses in Britain. It is thought the vehicle was likely purchased by Alec Baker, the then Chairman and Managing director. According to the build sheet, Baker took his DB5 in for its 10,000 mile service in June 1969, having a new head gasket and fuel pump fitted. By the early 1970s an Aston Martin enthusiast named P. Russel notified the Owner’s Register that he now owned 2197/R. In February 1972, he had the brake pads replaced, with the odometer noted as reading 43,582 miles on the service record. Clearly well maintained, Russel exhibited his DB5 on multiple occasions at the Knebworth Concours in 1976 and 1978, winning 2nd and 3rd place awards. He also displayed at the Greenwich and Goodwood Concours in 1980 and 1981. On 5 November 1983, Russel sold the Aston Martin to Mr. J. R. Bleach, who remained a custodian until 1999, entering the DB5 in multiple concours events during his ownership. At the Stanway Concours in 1987 the car was awarded “2nd” in the “Newcomer” category. For 1988, the Aston Martin came 5th in the Elite Class at Silverstone Concours, and 2nd at the British Classic Sports Car Show Concours, where the following year the car received a 3rd place award. Chassis 2197/R changed hands once more at the turn of the Millenium and was placed in the new owner’s name on 8 December 1999. Having been retained for eight years, the DB5 changed hands for a final time in 2007, when it was acquired by the fifth and current owner. Shortly thereafter the DB5 was exported to Kuwait, where it has remained in dry storage since. Today, chassis 2197/R wears its factory-correct colour scheme of Fiesta over a black leather interior and retains its matching-numbers straight-six engine. Please note, that having remained in dry storage since 2007, this vehicle will require recommissioning. The car is accompanied by a copy of the build sheet, and a previous V5 registration document. With continuous ownership history, matching-numbers engine, and a fantastic factory colour scheme, chassis 2197/R is an attractive example of Aston Martin’s DB5 that is ready to be brought back to its former glory. 1965 Aston Martin DB5 RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1955 Jaguar D-Type

DESIGNED TO DOMINATE Few sports cars are as justifiably celebrated as the legendary Jaguar D-Type, which was engineered specifically to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Significantly departing from the outgoing C-Type’s architecture, the D-Type was notably one of the first sports racers to feature monocoque construction, highlighted by fabulous aerodynamic coachwork by Malcolm Sayer. The model was powered by a further development of the C-Type’s 3.4-liter inline six-cylinder XK engine, now featuring triple Weber carburetors for improved output. Later customer cars were equipped with 3.8-liter engines fitted with a wide-angle cylinder head, mirroring the specifications of the works racecars, and constituting the ultimate performance iteration of the D-Type. Debuting at the 1954 24 Hours of Le Mans, the D-Type finished a narrow 2nd to a 4.9-liter Ferrari 375 Plus, and a year later it won the race outright with a long-nose body. Jaguar temporarily retired from competition after the 1956 season, but the D-Type continued to flourish in the hands of racing privateers, winning Le Mans in 1956 and 1957 for the Ecurie Ecosse. Coventry ultimately built 54 D-Type customer cars, allowing a fortunate few the privilege of experiencing the three-time Le Mans winner, which arguably remains the marque’s most significant racecar. CHASSIS NUMBER XKD 546 This beautifully restored D-Type benefits from 21 years of fastidious care under current ownership, resulting in a remarkably authentic example of Jaguar’s celebrated sports-racer. According to the combined data of Terry Larson’s D-Type Register, a certificate from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, and research by the consignor, chassis number XKD 546 was built in late 1955 with a short-nose body finished in cream paint over a red interior. Dispatched in December 1955 to Jaguar Cars New York, the D-Type was sold new to Guy Jackson of Chattanooga, Tennessee. During his fleeting ownership, the Jaguar was raced at least twice, with an unknown result at Courtland, Alabama, in July 1956, and two wins at Boca Raton, Florida, in March 1957 (with Jack Ensley behind the wheel). In June 1957 the Jaguar was sold to its second owner, Cornelius Kenslo Thompson of Alabama. The Thompson family campaigned the car at local events like the Courtland Sports Car Races in July 1957, where Thompson’s wife and son participated in two separate races before the owner roared to victory in a 25-lap contest. In late August 1957, the D-Type was entered at the Governor’s Cup at Mansfield, Louisiana, finishing as high as 6th, and at the race at Gainesville, Georgia, in early October the car finished 3rd. This flash of potential was followed by a victory at the Collier Trophy race at Fort Pierce in November. During mid-1958 the Jaguar proceeded to achieve three separate podium finishes, taking 2nd place at the events at Chester, South Carolina; Gainesville, Georgia; and Hammond, Louisiana. The Jaguar reportedly was involved in several minor collisions during these forays, but Mr. Thompson is credited with fastidiously conducting repairs as needed, which apparently included replacing the damaged head-fairing with a smaller one. By mid-1960 the D-Type was acquired by John Lumkin of California, and the car’s racing career continued at Pomona in June 1960 (13th place) and at Del Mar three months later (5th place). After briefly passing through the care of Los Angeles resident Mark Hurwitz, the Jaguar was sold through Alex Lucas in 1962 to Tim Considine, a Hollywood actor perhaps best known for his role on the television show My Three Sons. Lucas had retained Bob Carroll to remove the head fairing and install a new windshield, and period photographs on file demonstrate just how striking the D-Type appeared in this XKSS-style roadgoing guise. After painting the D-Type blue, Mr. Considine regularly drove the car to Desilu Studios, and during this chapter it reportedly appeared in the shows My Three Sons and Perry Mason. Unfortunately, around this time the original 3.4-liter engine suffered a valve failure, and Mr. Considine chose to replace the motor with a 3.8-liter engine. In 1965 the Jaguar was acquired by Robert Otten of Campbell, California, and eight years later he sold the car to racing enthusiast Chris Drake of Hertfordshire, England. Mr. Drake commissioned Lynx Engineering to conduct some refurbishment, after which the D-Type was enjoyed at the meets at Silverstone in 1982 and 1984, and during the 1984 Historic Car Championship. After 20 years of ownership, Mr. Drake sold the Jaguar in May 1993 to fellow Briton David Pennell, and he submitted the car to marque specialists John and Gary Pearson for a full restoration, with particular attention to preserving the chassis sub-frames (which were deemed to be original). Because the rear clip and the top surface of the front bonnet had been battered and stress-hardened during years of use, these sections were removed and replaced with new ones pounded on the original body bucks. The opportunity was also taken to install a new rear tailfin, and the restored coachwork was treated to a bare-metal refinish in British Racing Green. Following these important repairs, the Jaguar was driven to victory by British racing legends Richard “Dickie” Attwood and David Piper, who joined Gary Pearson to win the 1997 Nürburgring Historic endurance race. In 1999 the Jaguar was sold to the world-renowned Academy Award-winning actor and car enthusiast Nicolas Cage. Mr. Cage reportedly displayed the rare D-Type in the billiard room of his Bel Air home, and he commissioned Lynx Engineering to conduct a freshening of the engine while retaining Jaguar expert Jon Pollack to install new exhaust headers. In March 2002 Mr. Cage offered the D-Type through RM Auctions’ Amelia Island sale, and it was purchased there by the consignor, a respected collector based in Tennessee. By this time the car was fitted with a half-width plexiglass windscreen that covered the driver’s side only, and the passenger area had been covered with a racing tonneau. The consignor decided to replace the non-original engine with a fresh motor, retaining Leo Goff’s Memphis Motor Werks to build a new unit to proper specifications with a later 3.8-liter engine block (numbered LA 7568-9) and wide-angle cylinder head. Additional measures included the installation of new wheels. During the current 21-year period of ownership, the Jaguar has mostly remained in private storage, although the consignor made one exception when he campaigned the car at the Brian Redman International Challenge at Elkhart Lake in July 2003. In an effort to secure historic registration with the FIA the owner spearheaded a research process that involved correspondence with former owners, culminating in the issuance of an FIA Historic Technical Passport in May 2009. This beautifully presented D-Type is notably offered with the original front and rear body elements, which might appeal to the future caretaker seeking to steward an important car to a more original state. Documented with a JDHT heritage certificate, FIA HTP, and an invoice ledger reflecting work performed under current ownership, this outstanding Jaguar presents with characteristic flair, offering marque enthusiasts the opportunity to acquire a Coventry legend. 1955 Jaguar D-Type RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1955-mercedes-benz-300-sl-gullwing-2

The story of this 300 SL puts in on a pedestal above many of its contemporaries. This car was supplied new to close friend of Juan Manuel Fangio; Edouardo Kovacs. The car would find its residence in Valparaiso, Chile with Kovacs ahead of their competition in the 1956 Buenos Aires 1000 km. Ordered new in DB166 Blue-Grey over special-order Steel Blue leather, this example would see Rudge ‘knock-off’ wheels in anticipation of competition. Special paint finish (high-gloss) DB 166 BlauGrau Special upholstery DB 979 Leder Stahlblau Disc wheels with Rudge hubs Becker 'Le Mans' radio with Reims adapter and Hirschmann antenna Windshield washer system 1 set of rear suitcases 1 kg of paint The car was further ordered with one spare engine and ten spare tyres. Just five spare tyres would make the steam ship accompanying the car, with the engine retained by Mercedes until required. In order to make the start of race, Kovacs and his co-driver Raul ‘Papin’ Jaras Fleischmann would make the journey over the Andes by (mostly dirt) roads, in the very same 300 SL. The 1,700 km journey would see the duo reach heights of 3,200 metres, as high as any ski run in Europe. The race itself was significant, the season opener of the 1956 Worlds Sportscar Championship. Ferrari and Maserati were there in force, running the latest and fastest sports racers at the hands of the very best drivers. Maserati brought with them both the 300S and 150S and there was an abundance of Cavallinos present too; the 860 Monza, 857S, 500 Mondial, 225S and 410 Sport. Moss paired with Menditéguy, Gendebien with Hill, Froilan Gonzalez with Behra. Fangio, Castellotti, Musso, Collins were also on the grid. With the withdrawal of Mercedes from all competition following the Le Mans tragedy the previous year; Fangio had persuaded Kovacs to enter his car so they could compete wheel to wheel in South America. Kovacs agreed and Mercedes flew a technical crew with parts to support. The team asked if they could fit their latest sports exhaust, but as reported in the Motorsport Magazine at the time, Mr Kovacs declined, stating that he would then not be able to hear the radio! At the end of the thousand kilometres, the Maserati 300S of Moss and Menditéguy took the chequered flag from the Ferrari 857S of Hill and Gendebien, in 6th place was the Gullwing of Kovacs and co-driver Raul Jaras, one lap ahead of the race favourite and close friend Juan Manuel Fangio in the Scuderia Ferrari 410 Sport with co-driver Castellotti. The result for the 300 SL was also the highest placing non-factory entered car. In placing 6th, Edoardo Kovacs secured the first and only point for Mercedes Benz in the 1956 Sports Car championship. This feat would be acknowledged by handwritten letter and personal gift from Alfred Neubauer, the Director of Sport at Daimler-Benz. This letter remains with the car to this day. Beyond his endeavour in Buenos Aires, Kovacs would retain the car for 24 years. 1955 Supplied new to Edouardo Kovacs-Jones 1956 Buenos Aires 1000KM 1958 Campo de Marte Ciudad de Luna 1959 Gran Prix International Ciudad de Lima 1960 Playa Ancha Road Circuit 1964 Barrancas Circuit 1964 Gran Prix Ciudad de Limache 1964 Santiago Arica Grand Prix – El Morro In 1957 Kovacs won the “Gran Premio Tres Provincias” in central Chile in that same car. In 1959 Mr. Kovacs took the Gullwing to Perú, and won the “Gran Premio Internacional de Lima”, the most important grand prix in Peru. In 1964, with the MB he was the winner of a local race in Limache, Santiago, and obtained a second place in a circuit in Valparaiso. At the end of the year, during an international race in the city of Arica, in the northern border of Chile, he was running in first place the car left the road, fortunately he and his young son, who would become a famous driver and champion were not hurt. The car was damaged, so Kovacs decided to send the car back to Germany, to have the car repaired by Mercedes Benz at the factory. It is understood that Mercedes optioned to fit the spare engine to the car at this time. The car had competed for the last time and once the car returned to Chile, it would be used by Kovacs only as a road car for the next 18 years. In 1979 the 300 SL would find custodianship with its next keeper, John Crawford Jeffords III of Arizona after transport by Delta steamship ‘Santa Mariana’ to Los Angeles. Crawford would have the car restored and would retain the car until 1998. Residing within a prominent German collection for two further decades, the 300 SL would see maintenance works carried out by marque specialists H.K. Engineering in 2011. Imported into the UK by a serial 300 SL collector, the car would later receive works by Martin Cushway Engineering. Sold by DK Engineering to its current custodian in 2022, this example has since seen sparing use on UK roads. 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL 'Gullwing' D.K. Ford’s long awaited ‘droop snoot’ RS 2000 was launched at the Earls Court show of October 1975. It was the most luxurious of the sporting Escorts of the time. Powered by an updated version of the 2.0-litre OHC Pinto unit, with a four into two exhaust manifolds coupled to a big bore exhaust system it produced 110bhp. This propelled the RS2000 from 0-60mph in just 8.5 secs and onto a top speed of 110mph. The 1980 Ford Escort RS2000 Custom offered here at Autostorico is finished in Solid Black with Beige Beta cloth interior trim. Having been purchased by its current owner a lifelong Ford enthusiast in 2017, who had been searching for a solid car with as many original panels as possible (still retaining its original sills and floor).
