    The stakes couldn’t have been higher. The technological advancements in the 1980s through the developed use of turbocharging saw motorsport and road cars catapult forward in terms of pace. With the race to 200mph in full swing, road and race cars alike saw power jump into the high 300s, 400s and beyond. After the launch and success of Ferrari’s 288 GTO in 1984 with innovative, lightweight composite body panelling and a turbocharged powerplant offering both high power and torque, every year brought faster and faster variants. When Ferrari started production of the 288 GTO in 1984, Porsche had been in Africa with its 953. A naturally aspirated 911 with a manually adjustable four-wheel-drive system, designed specifically for the task but as a testbed for various systems, the car took victory at the Paris-Dakar rally. In terms of the technological race, Ferrari’s GTO was virtually stationary compared to Porsche’s efforts. This victory at Dakar marked a significant achievement for Porsche. The future of the 911 was in doubt already with the creation of the 924, 944 and 928 suggesting Porsche would ditch its roots in favour of a more traditional front-engined, rear-wheel-drive layout. Despite an internal battle over the future of front-engined over rear-engined layout, the win enabled chief engineer Helmuth Bott, to continue the development of a secret, ‘Super 911’. If it were to be the last ‘911’ instalment, it needed to conquer all; on the road, on the race track and even the rally scene too. In the wake of the 1973 OPEC oil embargo and ensuing crisis, which lead to slowing down of technical development; motorsport regulations were changed to form Group B. This ‘no-limits’ motorsport was created to once more inspire technological innovation in all aspects of automotive research and development. Porsche were keen to get in the action, developing the 953 into the 959 with the addition of twin turbochargers; the FIA regulation stipulated 200 production cars would be needed to comply. The ‘Gruppe B’ concept was first shown in 1983, the 959 prototypes were built in 1985 and the first customer cars weren’t shipped until 1987. This meant that after Henri Toivonen and Sergio Cresta’s fatal crash at the 1986 Tour de Corse, by the time the cars were in customers hands, the era of Group B was over. Whilst the 959 has long stood as Porsche's response to Ferrari's 288 GTO, the original supercar and arriving two years before Ferrari’s iconic F40, it was a very German approach to speed. Unlike the 288, it introduced technological features that were unheard of in the automotive market and provided an excellent platform for Porsche to prove their engineering mettle. In addition to its world-beating performance, the 959 was not only very in keeping with the marque’s design language, but most importantly it was usable on a day-to-day basis. Bott had earmarked 29 911 Turbo 3.3s to form the basis of the 959 prototype and pre-production cars. The engine shared very little with the 930’s turbocharged 3.3-litre flat-six. Instead it was more closely related to that of the 956 & 962 race cars – water cooled cylinder heads and dual, sequential turbochargers. An extensive array of motorsport-grade parts saw the 959 benefit from titanium con rods, forged alloy pistons and Nikasil-lined cylinders. Powered by an all-alloy 2.85-litre flat-six, the 959 generated a peak power output of 450hp.In ‘Komfort’ specification, this was already 55bhp more than the 288’s 394bhp. In ‘Sport’ trim, the 959 produced 510hp, or over 100 bhp more than the Ferrari. Whilst the Komfort was good for 197mph, Porsche claimed the Sport would eclipse that speed by just 1 mph. True to form, that claim was rather conservative and in reality, the Sport would reach 211mph. The intricate four-wheel-drive system featured a complex computer-controlled torque split, helping deploy its power and resulting in a 0-60 sprint of just 3.9 seconds. The 959 was a technological tour-de-force; ABS brakes, tyre pressure sensors, adjustable ride height, hollow-spoke magnesium wheels and a six-speed (5+1) gearbox. This was all offered with the expected Porsche luxuries-not least a totally usable Porsche interior. These innovations would later become mainstays in the automotive industry, later showing that Porsche’s engineers were years ahead of their time when developing the 959. The 959 was built using the standard 911's galvanized steel body shell but with composite Kevlar reinforced plastic wings, rocker covers, roof panel, and an aluminium bonnet and door skins. Compared to Porsche's other ventures in the 1980s, particular attention was paid to aerodynamic efficiency in the 959, including a flat bottom, resulting in a 0.31 coefficient of drag (compared to the same year 911 Turbo, which scored a 0.40 Cd). The transmission had six forward gears, although at the time Porsche did not have a homologated ‘6-speed’. Instead the gearbox in the 959 was a more traditional 5-speed, with an additional low range 1st gear. Each wheel received ventilated disc brakes with hydraulic assist and ABS. The transaxle tube included Porsche's PSK variable-centre differential, which managed the torque divisions between the front and rear axle. A second PSK was fitted in the rear axle to work as a form of limited-slip differential. This setup allowed the driver to adapt to road conditions by selecting between 'traction,' 'ice and snow,' 'wet' and 'dry' settings. The 959 even featured the world’s first run flat tyres, Bridgestone’ RE71 Denloc. In the mid-1980s, Porsche was in trouble, big trouble. At the time they were a relatively small, independent company and as such - they would reportedly lose the same as the asking price of nigh on £150k, for every single 959 built; a car that they would in fact struggle to sell at all. The 959 was a fascinating feat of engineering, not least for a business struggling so heavily at the time, its arguably a miracle the project was seen through – even going the other way in 1987 when Porsche reluctantly built the production version and curtailed production in 1988 after just 292 examples. Commonly misunderstood that Porsche simply could not afford to give four cars to the United States for their crash testing requirements, they had instead saved on development costs designing and testing to European safety standards only. Nevertheless, the 959 was not lost on U.S. enthusiasts and collectors and there were some efforts to import a modified Sport into the U.S. for track use only. The Sport saw a 100 kg weight loss over the Komfort, although mechanically the cars were identical. A factory power upgraded with larger turbochargers and revised internals was available that boosted power by 70bhp to 520 bhp. The exceedingly complex suspension setup was discarded in favour of more conventional coil-over setup. The interior was pared back too; air-conditioning was removed, wind up windows installed, radio deleted and rear seats omitted along with central locking and even the passenger wing mirror. The interior gained a full leather-wrapped roll-cage, with the seats now revised and in cloth with four-point racing harnesses. All 959 Sport were completed to the exact same specification with just the colour being left to choice; Guards Red or Grand Prix White. Just 7 Rest of World 959 Sport examples were completed in 1987 with 1 further car in 1989. All of the 29 USA examples were completed in 1988. This example has been earmarked for delivery to Texan Le Mans entrant Jack Griffin, who’s unlikely friendship forged over a tennis match with a former Porsche Motorsport Director had seen him send a $60,000 deposit by cheque to Stuttgart. However when the US Environmental Protection Agency rejected the Sport as track-only sportscar, Porsche sent back his refund. Delivered through the Racing Department in Weissach, the car was sold to Italy in December of 1989, first registered in the name of company Effe Uno SpA of Bolzano. The business was operated by Pierluigi Rindi, a successful businessman in the textiles industry. Rindi would retain the car for 10 years before sale to Bergamo. In 1999, the car was registered to significant construction holding company. Keen Porsche lovers, the 959 joined a garage including their Mille Miglia entrant 356. The family would retain the car until June of 2014 when it was exported to Germany. Purchased by the current owner in September of 2014, the 959 was shortly thereafter returned to its Stuttgart home for a comprehensive overhaul. Purchased with just 16,700 miles from new, the current custodian requested Porsche Classic carry out a thorough inspection ahead of remedial works. With a worklist outlined, Porsche Classic overhauled the 959 at a cost of just over €200,000, of which a quarter was spent on the engine alone. At the time of the overhaul, this example received the Porsche factory power upgrade boosting output by 70bhp to just over 520bhp. Porsche Classic are presently overbooked for the Carrera GT and 918 recomissioning service and cannot accept any further restorative works until 2030! Upon completion in 2017, the 959 Sport made its way to Hong Kong to reside within a prominent global collection. More recently this example has made its way to the UK, undergoing UK registration in 2022. Recent servicing has been carried out exclusively by Porsche Reading with the 959 receiving a minor service in October 2024. Today this 959 Sport presents superbly. Having been cared without consideration for expense and benefitting from a complete overhaul with Porsche Classic, this example has since been carefully stored and used sparingly.     The Series 1 4.2 is considered by many enthusiasts to be a real ‘sweet spot’ in the Jaguar E-type’s production run, and this Roadster is in exceptional condition following a ground-uprestoration by renowned specialist E-type UK. Originally built at the Browns Lane factory on 29 October 1965, chassis number 1E 11856 was dispatched to Jaguar Cars, New York, on 9 November. It was then sold to Charles Kovacs – who is listed on the Heritage Certificate as being the first owner – on 18 May 1966. The original invoice from Marquis Motors of Laguna Beach, California, is part of the car’s extensive history file, and it shows that Kovacs paid $6624 for his new E-type. He ended up keeping the Jaguar until August 1980, when it was sold to Gordon Wallace of Victoria, British Columbia. More recently, the car was brought back to England and treated to a full restoration at E-type UK that commenced in 2014 and which included a conversion to right-hand drive. The finished E-type was first registered here in June 2015, since when it has been maintained regardless of cost and has benefitted from a number of well-chosen upgrades. In 2019, a five-speed gearbox conversion was carried out and makes long-distance touring a much more comfortable proposition. EZ power steering was also fitted, along with Coopercraft four-pot brake calipers, plus wider wheels, a modern stereo with Bluetooth connection, LED lighting and inertia-reel seatbelts. In 2022, the differential was overhauled and the owner enjoyed stretched the Jaguar’s legs by touring Europe for several weeks, their route taking in France, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Monaco. The original invoice from Marquis Motors of Laguna Beach, California, is part of the car’s extensive history file, and it shows that Kovacs paid $6624 for his new E-type. He ended up keeping the Jaguar until August 1980, when it was sold to Gordon Wallace of Victoria, British Columbia. More recently, the car was brought back to England and treated to a full restoration at E-type UK that commenced in 2014 and which included a conversion to right-hand drive. The finished E-type was first registered here in June 2015, since when it has been maintained regardless of cost and has benefitted from a number of well-chosen upgrades. In 2019, a five-speed gearbox conversion was carried out and makes long-distance touring a much more comfortable proposition.     We are delighted to offer for sale an unusual and rare example of Alfa Romeo’s much-loved Spider. The Alfa Romeo 105/115 Series Spiders were produced in 4 Series and originally penned by Pininfarina himself. It is arguably one of the most appealing Alfa Romeo designs to date and remained in production between 1966 and 1994. Our car is the second incarnation of the original design where the famous ‘Kamm Tail’ replaced the rounded design of the first series cars. However, our car was the very first of the Kamm Tails which initially came with the 1750 engine. These were produced from only 1969 to 1972 and in tiny numbers prior to the introduction of the 2000 Spider. As such they are rare cars and RHD versions are rarer still with only 139 believed produced. Records we have confirm this example is a matching numbers car and was manufactured on July 22nd, 1971, and delivered to Alfa Romeo Australia (Sydney) in September that year. The body colour was Rosso with a black interior which it still presents with today. Its original service booklet confirms the car was sold to a Mr John Young in Queensland and the car has remained in Queensland to this day. We believe the car has had only 3 or 4 owners from new, and we sold the car to the current owner some 5 years ago. The previous owner had the car for some 25 years and used it sparingly keeping it at his weekend residence on the Gold Coast. Prior to this we believe he purchased it from John Young the original owner. The current owner has undertaken some sympathetic restoration work on the car including fitting a new interior including dashboard and seats. The underside was stripped and cleaned. Some corrosion was found in the floor pans, and these were replaced with new items. The engine has been serviced and the engine bay detailed to present as it would have done originally. We understand the paint on the car was applied some 25 years ago and not the original. There are some areas of bubbling on the lower guards however this has been there for some years, and our recommendation would be to leave as is and enjoy the car for what it is. A few stone chips are also present and would benefit from being touched up. Having said this the paint was originally well applied and has a decent gloss to it. The panel gaps across the whole car are good and doors and boot close as they should with seals being correctly applied. Start the engine and you immediately know you are in an Alfa Romeo. The classic 1750 engine fires up with that familiar growl and then you are away. Out on the open road this car drives without fault with a surprising amount of go from the engine, it is one of the best 1750’s we’ve driven. The interior is a lovely place to be. The original steering wheel greets the eye, and the classic dash is very appealing and being refurbished is like new. The instruments are in fine order too. The seats have been recovered as per original and again are like new. A full set of new mats finishes off the interior off beautifully. All the switches are spot on. The hood is in good order and the car wears its correct wheels which have been refurbished with new correct spec hubcaps. Underneath the car has been cleaned with suspension removed and refurbished. For the new owner this presents a wonderful opportunity to acquire a rare example of an ever-popular Alfa Romeo Spider.     This LHD example was the 174th car built, completed at the factory in October 1963 and subsequently delivered to the official dealer in Florence two months later. One of just 17 black Lusso’s to leave the factory, this car was purchased by its first owner Carlo Fiorini, an industrialist from the city (perhaps a late Christmas present to himself) on December 28th. Enjoying the car enormously, the car returned the factory for its first service the following month, already having covered 2,000kms. Fiorini returned the car to the factory twice more that year; in March at 4,600kms and later in June with 9,600kms. The car was sold to its second owner in 1966 by Fiorini to a resident in Rome who would also return the car to the factory for service; 1967 now at an impressive 56,700kms. The third owner was a British businessman who purchased the car in June 1967, later sending the car to LA by steamship to arrive in April 1968. The car had a series of US owners including renowned collector and historian Ed Niles, whose photographs of the car remain the file to this day. Moving from LA to Oregon in 1981, a comprehensive restoration began, completing in late 1982. At this time the car was put up for sale and had been refinished in red. In January 1986, the car was sold as part of a deal including a 330GTS to large car collector, Mr Artam. Owner of a private car museum, Mr Artam stored the car as part of his collection in Istanbul, Turkey where it would remain until we purchased the car in 2016. A total nut and bolt restoration was set upon to the DK’s highest standard. Having restored close to 100 Ferrari 250-series cars since our founding, DK Engineering were the obvious choice for the comprehensive, bare-metal restoration of this car. We stripped the car to the bare metal over the course of a week, ensuring a full inventory was made of all parts. We delivered the car to renowned metal panel beaters, Bodylines of Northampton. After removing the paint, the thoroughly original bodywork was revealed. Particular time and attention was spent ensuring the rear wheel arches were the correct shape and as per original images of the car. With no two cars identical, this process took a number of weeks of research, high-resolution images and numerous inspections. At the same time, comprehensively rebuilt the matching-numbers engine in house. When completed, the engine was fully photographed before being put into storage. It was subsequently purchased by its current owner in 2024, and driven in the Richard Mille sponsored 'Le Rallye des Légendes'. At the owner's request, the engine has since been fettled in such a way as to balance out any hint of vibration. As the previous owner of multiple 250 Lusso chassis', the meticulous Swiss gentleman to whom this car belongs wanted to ensure that this particular Lusso characteristic was entirley eradicated. Each stage of the restoration was thoroughly documented, for reference but equally as a means to demonstrate the art of the process. After the metalwork was complete, the car was photographed ahead of its move to paint-masters Spray Tec. Refinished in its original deep black, the car was once more photographed on a jig ahead of reassembly at our main facility.     This Dino GTS was supplied new by Maranello Concessionaires and their records show it was first delivered in March 1974 to Mr Thompson. Originally specified in Rosso Bordeaux over Beige, this car was originally specified with electric windows and the addition of both the extremely rare and highly desirable wider, sand-cast Campagnolo alloy wheels, flared arches and the leather ‘Daytona’ seats. As such this example forms the ultimate roof-off, Dino specification; a "Chairs and Flares" GTS, built as one of just 6 RHD examples of such worldwide. Accompanying this example is a large history volume including a copy of its original order document and continuing from there. Purchased by its second owner in 1977, a Mr Guthrie of Devon who would service the car regularly, close to his home using a local rally and motorsport specialist. The car received its first MOT in 1977, three years after delivery marking the mileage as 18,270 miles. At the time of sale, Mr Guthrie confirmed the history of the car to this point, verifying the mileage and that it had only ever been used during the summer months. This GTS had 3 owners in the UK averaging 2000 miles per year up until 1982 when the car was purchased by its fourth owner. Mr D. Parkinson purchased the car in the UK ahead of movement to his home in South Africa. He had the car loaded in Rotterdam ahead of its transport by sea to Johannesburg. Mr Parkinson would retain the car for just shy of 20 years. Servicing the car in locally, the file details requests for countless parts from UK suppliers including Graypaul Ferrari of Nottingham and Maranello Concessionaires who delivered items to his UK business before finding their way to him in South Africa. In 2012, the car was purchased by Mr McCryst who instigated a comprehensive, bare-metal restoration of the GTS with Carrozzeria Viglietti. At this time the colour was changed to the brighter Rosso Corsa hue that the car would remain in until 2020 The Dino was purchased by a South African resident who repatriated the car to the UK when the owner moved in 2018. The car remained in our storage facility until 2020 when DK sold the car to its current keeper. Intent on returning the car to its as-new colours and condition, the new owner tasked DK Engineering with a comprehensive bare metal and total restoration. Over the course of 18 months, DK Engineering carefully and meticulously stripped the car to bare metal, to execute the body restoration. At the same time every mechanical component was rebuilt in house to concours and detail correct specification. With the metal work complete, the car was once more refinished in its original Rosso Bordeaux. Assembly was carried out within our workshops before trim work was completed by O’Rourke of Guildford. Since completion in 2020, this example has found home as a part of a prominent global collection. Originally specified in Rosso Bordeaux over Beige, this car was originally specified with electric windows and the addition of both the extremely rare and highly desirable wider, sand-cast Campagnolo alloy wheels, flared arches and the leather ‘Daytona’ seats. As such this example forms the ultimate roof-off, Dino specification; a "Chairs and Flares" GTS, built as one of just 6 RHD examples of such worldwide. Accompanying this example is a large history volume including a copy of its original order document and continuing from there. Purchased by its second owner in 1977, a Mr Guthrie of Devon who would service the car regularly, close to his home using a local rally and motorsport specialist. The car received its first MOT in 1977, three years after delivery marking the mileage as 18,270 miles. At the time of sale, Mr Guthrie confirmed the history of the car to this point, verifying the mileage and that it had only ever been used during the summer months. This GTS had 3 owners in the UK averaging 2000 miles per year up until 1982 when the car was purchased by its fourth owner. Mr D. Parkinson purchased the car in the UK ahead of movement to his home in South Africa. He had the car loaded in Rotterdam ahead of its transport by sea to Johannesburg. Mr Parkinson would retain the car for just shy of 20 years. Servicing the car in locally, the file details requests for countless parts from UK suppliers including Graypaul Ferrari of Nottingham and Maranello Concessionaires who delivered items to his UK business before finding their way to him in South Africa. In 2012, the car was purchased by Mr McCryst who instigated a comprehensive, bare-metal restoration of the GTS with Carrozzeria Viglietti. At this time the colour was changed to the brighter Rosso Corsa hue that the car would remain in until 2020 The Dino was purchased by a South African resident who repatriated the car to the UK when the owner moved in 2018. The car remained in our storage facility until 2020 when DK sold the car to its current keeper. Intent on returning the car to its as-new colours and condition, the new owner tasked DK Engineering with a comprehensive bare metal and total restoration. Over the course of 18 months, DK Engineering carefully and meticulously stripped the car to bare metal, to execute the body restoration. At the same time every mechanical component was rebuilt in house to concours and detail correct specification. With the metal work complete, the car was once more refinished in its original Rosso Bordeaux. Assembly was carried out within our workshops before trim work was completed by O’Rourke of Guildford. Since completion in 2020, this example has found home as a part of a prominent global collection. Offered for sale today, this is a rare opportunity to acquire one of just 6 RHD 246 GTS ‘Chairs & Flares’ built by the factory.     The RCT (RUF Carrera Turbo) proved so successful for RUF that RCT conversions can still be carried out today, with the latest specification now known as the RCT Evo. Utilizing a 993-sourced ECU, the RCT Evo offers 425 bhp at 5,800 RPM and a monstrous 570 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm, and the car will reach a top speed of 199 mph. With the addition of a single-turbocharger, the RCT package saw power figures eclipse that of even Porsche’s halo Turbo model. The continued development to Evo specification represents a further rise of 60 bhp and 9mph in terms of top speed over the original RCT. The conversion also includes replacing the original five-speed manual gearbox with a six-speed G50 unit, fitting RUF’s iconic green-lettered instruments and upgraded five-spoke wheels, limited-slip differential as well as a full adjustable suspension. At the time of the conversion, the engine also received a comprehensive overhaul and rebuild to ensure it was able to handle the increased power. The RCT Evo was re-introduced in 2020 as a complete, factory-built restoration. Whilst the engine upgrade alone is quite simple, original factory-built examples received a bespoke RUF chassis number as well as the subtle integrated roll cage, and whilst the new cars retain their original chassis, the integrated roll cage can be added into a complete restoration. This RCT Evo is one such example. The commissioning owner sourced an original, UK supplied and registered 964 from a noted Porsche dealership before delivering the car to RUF at their home in Pffafenhausen. Stripped back to a bare shell, the car would receive an integrated roll cage ahead of assembly. Notably at the time of restoration, the decision was made to opt for a total refinishing in carbon fibre. The Lightweight package includes a complete re-panelling including the front bumper, front hood, rear hood, rear bumper, roof, front and rear fenders. Furthermore, this example was optioned as a widebody but remains rear-wheel drive only. These developments save 75 kg over their steel counterparts. Finished in a bespoke Violet Ayres metallic blend for the commissioning owner, the interior received a full retrim in Mojave Beige leather with body-coloured matching stitching. Leveraging a more modern Recaro seat design, the buckets tip forward allowing access to the pared-back luggage space behind the front seats. The seatbacks add cohesion also finished in body colour. After completion, the comissioning owner allowed RUF to use this very car for a wealth of marketing materials and news stories globally.     With only 8000 being built, and most of those being sold new in Germany, any BMW Z1 is a rare car in the UK, but this car has a particularly fascinating history. It was originally delivered to Japanese tuning specialist Tommykaira. The Kyoto-based company was the official Hartge agent for Japan, and it’s thought that it carried out at least a partial Hartge upgrade on this Z1. These modifications were available as a complete package or as individual elements, and included the option of an engine upgrade that lengthened the stroke, increasing capacity to 2693cc. Along with a higher compression ratio and changes to the Bosch Motronic management system, that helped to boost power from 170bhp to 205bhp. Owners could also specify larger wheels and tyres, bigger front brake discs, a different final-drive ratio and sports suspension as part of the Hartge upgrades. This Z1 was sold in 1997 by a Kyoto-based specialist to Yosuke Yamamoto, and he brought it with him when he moved to the UK the following year. Shortly afterwards, Yamamoto went right through the car, retrimming the interior in grey leather and red nubuck, overhauling the running gear, replacing the soft-top, and repainting the front bumper. He sold the Z1 when he returned to Japan in 2009, by which time the car still had less than 50,000km on the clock. It stayed in the UK and in 2013 was sold to a BMW enthusiast who stored it for three years, before deciding to have it recommissioned by Z1 specialist Ivor Dadswell. What started out as some light work turned into a 12-month process, during which Dadswell went right through the car. Most body panels were removed, along with the seats and most of the trim, and the red nubuck was renewed. All wheelarch liners were replaced, the mechanism for the famous door actuation was overhauled, and the owner managed to source an original set of Hartge alloys, which were refurbished and fitted to the car. The Z1 was subsequently dyno’d at 176bhp, which certainly suggests that it received at least some Hartge engine upgrades, given that the standard power output when new was only 170bhp. This stylish, distinctive roadster has been used sparingly over the past few years, and fastidiously maintained along the way.     Production of the Aston Martin DB MkIII totalled 551 cars, but the vast majority of those were the saloon model. Only 84 featured the stylish drophead coupé bodywork, making this particular car a very rare survivor. Chassis number ‘1687’ was a right-hand-drive, UK-market car that was first registered on 2 May 1959. It was sold as a demonstrator to KN Rudd (Engineers) Ltd of Worthing in West Sussex. Ken Rudd was a very capable racing driver who became better known thanks to the Ruddspeed tuning conversions he developed for various cars during the 1950s and 1960s. The DB MkIII was supplied in Elusive Blue with a Blue-Grey interior, and was specified with the optional overdrive unit for the four-speed gearbox. It featured the standard twin-carburettor DBA engine, and subsequent owners listed on the factory data sheet include ABB Clark – a Commander in the Royal Navy who was based in Lossiemouth – then HF Benson of Staines, DWT Hague of Oldham, and finally Dr Greenal, who lived in London and used the Aston Martin in a sprint at Curborough in 1968. Having spent time with an owner in Belgium, the DB MkIII was offered for sale in 2017 by a dealer in The Netherlands. At that stage, a report by noted Aston Martin expert Stephen Archer was commissioned by its next owner, and Archer reported that the car had obviously been well restored. He wrote that the chassis was ‘powder-coated and still looks fresh’, and surmised that the ‘rebuild was not only a body-off project but a total chassis strip as well’. The car was subsequently imported to the UK and reunited with its original registration number: 1602 PO. It has retained its original engine (DBA 1332), and when it arrived from The Netherlands it benefitted from work that included a new brake master cylinder, engine mounts, kingpin assemblies, rear dampers, propshaft and brake servo. The chassis box sections were treated with cavity wax, an electric cooling fan was fitted, and the attention to detail even extended to sourcing the correct jack and tool kit. Since then, this DB MkIII has been regularly serviced and maintained by an Aston Martin main dealer. Six years would pass before the vehicle would move to the London area under the new ownership of Mr Derek-Robert Grant of Southall in 1970. Changing hands once more, chassis 800039 would then pass into the ownership of Mr Hugh Bolton of Suffolk in 1974. Mr David Cottingham, a Jaguar marque aficionado, would purchase the car in 2018 and see to it that this now presents as surely one of the very best XK140s existent.
