1959 Ferrari 250 GT Series I Pinin Farina Coupe s/n 1147GT, Engine no. 1147 (internal no. 0218D) Grigio Scuro with Black Interior Introduced in 1958, the 250GT Pininfarina Coupe represented Ferrari’s shift toward standardized production road cars, both to showcase the technology tested in racing, and to provide consistent income to support racing. The cars were elegant, understated, and luxurious, and were available as both open and closed variants. Fitted with the venerable 3-litre V-12, the 250 GT is in many ways the quintessential classic Ferrari, and with generous space for both passengers and luggage, PFs have always been excellent touring cars. This particular car’s history is well known, thanks to a comprehensive summary by Ferrari historian Marcel Massini: October 24, 1958: Chassis frame sent to Carrozzeria Pinin Farina in Torino February 12, 1959: Rear axle assembly completed by mechanic Walter Sghedoni, supervised by foreman Amos Franchini February 14, 1959: Gearbox assembly completed by mechanic Beltrami, supervised by foreman Amos Franchini February 14, 1959: Engine assembly completed by mechanics Zanasi and Fossati, supervised by foreman Amos Franchini February 16, 1959: Engine dyno tested by mechanic Pinelli, supervised by engineer Russo February 17, 1959: Chassis frame completion date on factory build sheets, signed by foreman Amos Franchini 1959: Delivered to official Ferrari importer Italauto SA of Lausanne, Switzerland, a company owner and managed by race driver and Baron Emmanuel “Toulo” De Graffenried of Switzerland 1959: Sold by Italauto SA to first owner Guinness, resident in Switzerland. As a Series I car, equipped with drum brakes, an offset shifter, and finished in grigio scuro with beige leather interior. Likely equipped with a Series II discs brake assembly early in s/n 1147GT’s existence, possibly at Ferrari, as the entire system including the rare proportioning valve is identical to that of a Series II. By late 1977: Exported to the USA and owned by James B. Wise of Oklahoma City, OK. By 1980: Owned by Merle H. Mickley Mishne of Cleveland, OH By late 1999: Sold to Brian De Vries of Grand Rapids, MI June 2000: Sold to Walter Giovanelli, Hauppauge, NY By 2002: Sold to Simon De Giula Botta, Oakland, CA By 2003: Sold to the current owner Recently the car has seen considerable restoration work, both cosmetic and mechanical. This work included an engine rebuild by Patrick Ottis & Co. which included a new water pump, and a rebuilt starter, and generator. Once completed, the engine was dyno-tested to confirm 212 horsepower and 194 ft/lbs of torque. A new clutch and flywheel were installed as the engine was re-installed. A comprehensive brake system overhaul was also performed, as was a repaint in the original and striking shade of grigio scuro. Many other smaller works were carried out to ensure the car is in fully operable trim mechanically, and this is confirmed by its excellent road manners. THE CAR EMPLOYS A DRIVER LEVEL COSMETIC PRESENTATION. The recent repaint is in good order, but not done to show standards. It would likely polish up a bit with a careful but comprehensive color sand. The brightwork is straight, generally complete, and free of major pitting, but with hazing and some light weathering present. The glass and lenses show some age in select areas, primarily the windscreen, which has some wiper marks. The car sits on Borrani RW 3598 5.5x400 wire wheels, which are shod with newer Michelin 185 X Series tires. The interior, which appears to have been partially reupholstered in 2000, also employs a nice driver presentation. There are no tears or holes in the leather, although there is some drying evident on the dash pad and center console. The carpets are older, but in serviceable order. The gauges are all present and appear to be operational, although some of the under dash switchgear may not be totally original. The headliner is in very good shape. The trunk is upholstered, but generally unrestored in its presentation. The engine bay is partially restored, primarily the engine itself, which is quite correct in its details, and makes a fresh presentation. The inner fenderwells, and some of the ancillary components have an unrestored presentation. The equipment present is quite correct, including the brake booster, remote oil filter housing, air cleaner and related wing nuts, yellow fuel lines, horns and compressor, and the fuse panel. The underside of the car is generally solid, but in unrestored condition. There are some areas of perforation in splash areas behind the wheels. THE CAR RUNS AND DRIVES WELL. The engine starts easily and pulls strong making good power over a wide RPM range, with virtually no smoke. Acceleration is brisk, thanks in part to its low final drive ratio. The transmission shifts smoothly, with good synchros, both when warm and cold. The disc brakes are effective, pulling the car down straight, which is not always the case with drum brake fitted cars. The suspension is generally in good order, although there is some noise present at back when going over rough road surfaces, likely related to the level-style rear shock absorbers. Offered with a Marcel Massini report, a copy of the build sheets, records supporting the restoration works, a second set of keys, and a very smart modern production tool roll with select original tools, this Series I PF Coupe will appeal to the Ferrari enthusiast who recognizes the value of the two passenger 250 Series cars, but is not looking to spend upwards of $1,000,000 USD. With the engine completed, the heavy lifting is done, making this car an ideal example which could be taken to the “next level” by its next custodian. s/n 1147GT is a rational purchase for the investment-minded owner looking for a car where they can benefit financially from a sweat equity labor of love, or alternatively, it could be enjoyed with a clear conscious, exactly as it is now. 1959 Ferrari 250GT Series I Pinin Farina Fantasy Junction If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. Four seats. Twelve cylinders. Pure Italian grandeur. The Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 offered here, in Rosso Corsa with a Pelle Nera interior, is one of only 801 units ever built. According to the history passed down to us, after its initial registration in Italy, it was owned by Richard “Dick” Teague, the former chief designer of AMC (American Motors Corporation) and a passionate car collector. From the 1960s through the early 1980s, Dick Teague was one of the most significant and influential US automotive designers. In the 1990s, the car was sold to Germany before being imported to Switzerland by us just under two years ago. This beautiful Queen Mary is a matching-numbers car and is in top-maintained and highly original collector’s condition, featuring a freshly and completely overhauled engine, transmission, carburetors, distributor, suspension, brakes, oil and water coolers, a new clutch, and new tires. Extensive documentation, including the German certificate of registration, as well as a copy of the US title, are available. This Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 will be delivered with a fresh veteran vehicle inspection. The Queen of the Road – built for speed, made for comfort. While many Ferraris were uncompromising sports cars, the 365 GT 2+2 was a true Gran Turismo often referred to as the “Gentleman’s Ferrari”—seating four with a focus on comfort and long-distance driving, not just speed. Due to its luxury and size, it earned the nickname “Queen Mary.” 1969 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 Lutziger Classic Cars AG If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1956 Jaguar XK 140 MC 3.4
Offered from The Charles J. Noto Collection Beautifully presented example of a classic British sports car Sought-after MC model with original body, engine, chassis, and gearbox Accompanied by Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate From the moment of its introduction in 1948, the brilliant XK 120 established Jaguar at the very forefront of postwar sports car manufacturers, thanks to its modern yet graceful lines and impressive performance. Its original design was updated for late 1954 as the XK 140, which featured revised styling as well as a larger, more powerful engine, part of a comprehensive list of subtle improvements designed to maintain Jaguar’s appeal, especially in the all-important US market. One of some 3,350 XK 140 Roadsters produced between late 1954 and 1957, the example offered here is identified on its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate as an original sought-after MC model, featuring a 210-horsepower engine with a C-Type-style Le Mans cylinder head, dual exhaust, and four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Built with left-hand-drive for the American market, it was shipped on 17 January 1956 to Charles Hornburg’s renowned distributorship in Los Angeles. Charles J. Noto acquired the Jaguar from a seller in his home state of New York in 2006. While the car was intended to be a “driver,” his usual fastidious nature led to a complete restoration of the roadster at his in-house facility, with the body refinished in the period-correct hue of Carmen Red and the interior in tan leather, overseen by a black fabric top. The quality of the workmanship throughout is excellent, and as with Mr. Noto’s other “driver,” his 1953 Buick Skylark, the presentation is still immaculate and to the same standard as the other vehicles in his collection, as fewer than 200 of the 98,118 miles recorded have been traveled since restoration. Examination shows that the car retains its original body and chassis, the latter properly stamped in the expected location, as well as the original matching-numbers engine—both cylinder head and block—and gearbox. Exciting both to admire and to drive, it is no wonder this Jaguar captured the heart of its otherwise prewar-focused owner. It would be a delight to use on Long Island, or anywhere else its new owner cares to take it. 1956 Jaguar XK 140 MC 3.4 RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. It would be a delight to use on Long Island, or anywhere else its new owner cares to take it. The culmination of the Aston Martin’s long running line of ‘DB’ six-cylinder sports saloons and thus considered by many to be the last ‘real’ Aston, the DB6 was introduced in 1965, updating the DB5. Although recognisably related to the Touring-styled DB4 of 1958, the DB6 abandoned the Superleggera body structure of its predecessors in favour of a conventional steel fabrication while retaining the aluminium outer panels. Increased rear-seat space was the prime DB6 objective, so the wheelbase was now 4” longer than before, resulting in an extensive restyle with more raked windscreen, raised roofline and reshaped rear quarter windows. Opening front quarter lights made a reappearance but the major change was at the rear where a Kamm-style tail with spoiler improved the aerodynamics, greatly enhancing stability at high speeds. These many dimensional changes were integrated most successfully, the DB6’s overall length increasing by only 2”. The Tadek Marek-designed six-cylinder engine had been enlarged to 3,995cc for preceding DB5 and remained unchanged. Power output on triple SU carburettors was 282bhp, rising to 325bhp in Vantage specification, enabling it to reach 60mph in just over 8 secs and onto a top speed of 150mph. The Aston Martin DB6 Sports Saloon ‘Vantage Specification’ offered here at Autostorico is finished in Midnight Blue metallic with red leather interior with red carpets. Supplied through DH Bloomer in Grimsby, Chassis No: DB6/2749/R was first registered on the 14th of April 1967 and fitted with the following factory options; Vantage specification engine, Chrome wheels, Heated rear window, 3 Ear hub spinners, Motorola radio and electric aerial. Having had only had two former keepers prior to the current owner an avid Aston Martin enthusiast purchasing in December 2020. The car has subsequently undergone a complete restoration including works to the mechanicals and body regardless of cost. The engine was rebuilt to 4.2 Fast Road specification by marque specialist Warren Heath Engineering Ltd. Other works include a full bare metal respray, full re-trim including seats, re-wire, brake overhaul along with fitting an Aston Engineering suspension handling kit. Remaining in what can only be described as stunning condition this DB6 not only represents one of the finest examples in Britain but also drives extremely well. Supplied with an extensive history file including current V5 registration document, previous MOT’s and copy of original build sheet, Numerous restoration invoices totalling over £300,000, Owner’s handbooks and tool kit. 1967 Aston Martin DB6 Sports Saloon ‘Vantage Specification’ Autostorico Partners LLP If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1953 Ferrari 375 MM Pinin Farina Spider
Pinin Farina’s first open competition Ferrari The hips don’t lie. Those round, voluptuous curves aft the cockpit are where your eyes are first drawn when presented with the arresting Ferrari 375 MM Spider, bodied by Pinin Farina in Turin. It was the historic coachbuilder’s first interpretation of an open competition Ferrari. And, heavens above, didn’t it do a great job? Introduced in 1953 as a means of keeping the mighty Mercedes-Benz 300 SLRs at bay, the 375 MM built on the success of the Mille Miglia-winning 340 models, Ferrari’s first production car to be powered by Aurelio Lampredi’s powerful long-block V12. The engine was enlarged to 4.5 litres in the 375 MM, raising power to a heady 340bhp. These ‘big-banger’ Lampredi-powered Ferraris really were the fastest cars on the road at the time, spearheading Ferrari’s assaults on all the greatest endurance races. And coupled with the efforts of Luigi Chinetti, who’d begun selling Ferraris across North America for the first time, the Prancing Horse was fast establishing itself as a purveyor of the world’s most exquisite motor cars. These ‘big-banger’ Lampredi-powered Ferraris really were the fastest cars on the road at the time, spearheading Ferrari’s assaults on all the greatest endurance races A mere 26 Ferrari 375 MMs were built, clothed in a number of striking different bodies, predominantly by Pinin Farina, though also by Vignale, Scaglietti and Ghia. Chassis no. 0360 AM As early Christmas presents go, we’re sure you’ll agree that a 1950s ‘big-banger’ 12-cylinder Ferrari would take some beating. The Italian mineral-water magnate, keen amateur racing driver and loyal Ferrari pilgrim Piero Scotti treated himself to such a gift in December of 1953. Among Il Commendatore’s most significant early customers, he acquired this Rosso Corsa Ferrari 375 MM Pinin Farina Spider, the very first built – chassis number 0360 AM, directly from the factory. But rather than parking it beside the tree and waiting patiently for Christmas day, he decided to ship the car directly to Morocco, North Africa, and enter the 12 Hours of Casablanca. Entered under the Scuderia Ferrari banner and run with considerable support from the factory, chassis number 0360 AM was assigned the race number two. Given the factory’s involvement, Scotti was partnered with successful Works driver Giuseppe ‘Nino’ Farina, who’d famously won the inaugural Formula 1 World Championship for Drivers in 1950, racing for Alfa Romeo. Beneath the fierce Moroccan sun and against strong opposition from Jaguar, Aston Martin and Talbot, the Scotti/Farina 4.5-litre Ferrari quickly emerged as the class of the field. “Nothing could stop Farina and Scotti in the Ferrari, which went round and round with relentless speed and efficiency,” was how Autosport reported on chassis number 0360 AM’s performance. Sure enough, as the sun set and the chequered flag dropped, Scotti and Farina led the second-place Ferrari of Luigi Villoresi and Alberto Ascari home by some 40 kilometres. A memorable Christmas for Piero Scotti indeed. The 340 MM remained in Africa into 1954, Scotti entering the Agadir Grand Prix in February and the Senegal Grand Prix in March, the latter of which he dominated to win. Upon returning the car to Europe in the spring, Scotti notched up another win on chassis 0360 AM’s record: this time the Coppa della Toscana. And he continued to compete for the remainder of the year, with a handful of further domestic victories. The strong performance of this 375 MM was clearly recognised in Maranello, for Scotti and the car featured in the 1954 Ferrari Yearbook. “In a field of 475 starters, Scotti had fought his way inside the top 10 by quarter-distance at Ravenna. And he continued to climb, reaching third position overall by Florence.” In a bid to better his incredible second-place finish in the 1951 Mille Miglia, Scotti contested both the 1954 and 1955 editions of the world-famous Italian road race with chassis 0360 AM. The mid-1950s was truly the heyday for the Mille Miglia, which snaked its way from Brescia down to Rome and back and attracted the world’s biggest manufacturers and their squadrons of star drivers. The motorsport world mourned Tazio Nuvolari in 1953, which prompted the Mille Miglia organisers to tweak the race route in order to encompass the Italian great’s hometown of Mantua. Incidentally, this notched the overall mileage to exactly 1,000 miles, as per the race’s name. There was also a significant change to the rules allowing a single driver to contest the entire race, rather than the traditional team of two. Context is useful at this point. Upwards of 11 hours solo driving, day and night, flat-out across an entire country, solely on public roads lined with hundreds of thousands of unobstructed spectators. Ludicrous. With crucial experience in the race and his new 4.5-litre Ferrari in rude health, Scotti must have fancied his chances for the 1954 Mille Miglia. Part of the Works Ferrari assault, Scotti opted to capitalise on the rule change and ‘go it alone’. And, by all accounts, he made a searing start. In a field of 475 starters, Scotti had fought his way inside the top 10 by quarter-distance at Ravenna. And he continued to climb. Rome marked the halfway point, some 540 miles into the race, and Scotti was sandwiched between two Works Maseratis in eighth position. As Marzotto’s Ferrari retired with gearbox trouble, Scotti was able to edge the number 546 375 MM up to third position by Florence. Alas, no sooner than a podium finish had been thrust into the realms of possibility, than it was cruelly snatched away. Scotti retired in the Apennines before Bologna – agonisingly close to the finish. What could have been… The Mille Miglia in 1955, of course, witnessed the momentous record-breaking victory of Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson in the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. It was to be Piero Scotti’s final attempt at finally winning the ‘world’s most beautiful motor race’, once again with his trusty 375 MM. With the staggering rate of technological development in the mid-1950s, chassis 0360 AM simply no longer remained competitive. The Mille Miglia would evade Scotti for the rest of his days. As this Ferrari was honourably retired after its remarkably successful competition career, so the car found its way across the Atlantic, passing through the hands of a small number of American owners until 1981, when it was acquired by the Pennsylvania trucking tycoon Len Rusiewicz. Painstakingly, over the course of the next 15 years and with the wholehearted support of his family, Rusiewicz returned what was a tired and forgotten but remarkably original Ferrari racer to its former glory. The long and exhaustive project complete, Rusiewicz did exactly what we would have done and showed it proudly to the world. Between 1996 and 2004, 0360 AM starred at a plethora of prestigious North American concours, including the 12th Annual Reading Concours d’Elegance, where it was awarded ‘Best of Show’, and the Ferrari Club of America National Concours, where it was the recipient of the ‘Forza Ferrari’ award. This 375 MM was also profiled in an in-depth feature in a 1997 issue of Cavallino, a copy of which accompanies the car. “Between 1996 and 2004, 0360 AM starred at a plethora of prestigious North American concours, including the 12th Annual Reading Concours d’Elegance, where it was awarded ‘Best of Show’.” After almost 25 years, Rusiewicz reluctantly parted with chassis 0360 AM in December of 2004. The car was bought by the Brescia-based Ferrari collector Emilio ‘Chico’ Gnutti, who promptly commissioned a comprehensive restoration. Ferrari Classiche’s preferred coachbuilder, Carrozzeria Quality Cars near Padua, was chosen to restore the stunning Pinin Farina bodywork, chassis and interior, while the mechanical components were entrusted to Brescia Autoracing, which is now known as Brixia Motor Classic. From the outset, the onus was on originality and authenticity. The body, for example, is now indistinguishable from that in the photos of the car contesting the 1954 Mille Miglia with Piero Scotti – a tribute to the artisanal craftsmanship of Quality Cars’ ingegneri. Gnutti enjoyed almost a decade with chassis number 0360 AM, exhibiting the car in the ultra-prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este and, satisfyingly, contesting the Mille Miglia Storico – over 60 years after it took to the starting ramp of the original version of the legendary Italian road race. This 375 MM’s final – and current – owner, a prominent American Ferrari collector with a world-class stable of road and competition Prancing Horses, assumed custody in 2013. It has not been seen in public since. These commandingly powerful ‘big-banger’ 1950s Ferraris are, understandably, extremely desirable today. And it’s frankly easy to appreciate why, given their heady combination of rarity, desperate beauty, dizzying performance and immense period competition success, earned in the hands of the era’s greatest pilots. This 375 MM Spider Pinin Farina, the very first of a mere 15 built, exemplifies this appeal to a tee. Firstly there’s chassis number 0360 AM’s successful period competition history while in Piero Scotti’s ownership, crowned by two Mille Miglia entries and that stunning victory in the 12 Hours of Casablanca – earned with the help of the factory and, of course, the former Formula 1 World Champion ‘Nino’ Farina. Then there’s its entirely clear and comprehensive history, as verified by the leading Ferrari historian Marcel Massini in his accompanying report and, of course, Ferrari Classiche in its accompanying certification binder. Three owners in the last 43 years should prove music to many collectors’ ears. Crucially, this history supports the remarkable originality of this 375 MM. For us here at Girardo & Co., these attributes pale in comparison to the sheer grace and presence of this stunning Spider. The Pinin Farina-bodied 375 MM Spider is one of those cars that arrests your attention and holds it ransom from reality. It treads a fine line between masculine and feminine, with those not-so-subtle hints of its enormous power melded with those sultry and traditional Pinin Farina design cues. Chassis 0360 AM is nothing short of a masterpiece, worthy of a prime spot in Paris’s Louvre, Los Angeles’ Getty or New York’s Metropolitan. 1953 Ferrari 375 MM Pinin Farina Spider Girardo & Co. Other Cars from Girardo & Co. - 1966 Ferrari 330 GTC by Pininfarina
While the lineage of mid-engine V-8 supercars has been a runaway success for Ferrari over recent decades, for many the quintessential models in the Maranello range are the 12-cylinder grand tourers. Built between 1966 and 1968, the 330 GTC was one such example. Beneath the elegant Pininfarina-designed bodywork, which featured styling cues from the 275 GTC and 500 Superfast, nestled a 4-litre Colombo V-12 engine fitted with three Weber carburettors to produce 300 horsepower at a sonorous 7,000 rpm. Supplied as standard with a full leather interior and electric windows, it made for a wonderful continental cruiser. From the first year of production and originally finished in Silver Grey over Nero Franzi leather, chassis 8873 is believed to be the 25th of the 600 examples of the 330 GTC built. One of 579 left-hand-drive cars, it was delivered in August 1966 and imported to Switzerland. Subsequently repainted red, the Ferrari remained in the country before entering the long-term ownership of Mr Gino Chiesa of Bubendorf in 1983. He kept the GTC for some 32 years. Towards the end of his custodianship, 7,061 Swiss francs was paid in August 2011 to Garage Salvadori Ivo to cover cleaning the engine, chassis, and underbody, while the exhaust was replaced and brake system refreshed. The following March, the seats were retrimmed in work totalling 2,456 Swiss francs. The car was then bought in June 2015 by Ferrari Club Austria vice-president Mr Josef Panis. He oversaw a repaint to the factory Silver Grey shade. The subsequent owner was keen a historic racer, Mr Robin Bernberg. He tasked Ferrari specialist GTO Engineering with carrying out a full inspection, with chassis 8873 duly awarded Ferrari Classiche certification in July 2019. The car was then acquired in the early 2020s by its consigning keeper, who had the 330 repainted in its current blue hue by 355 Automobile Restorations of Surrey. Thereafter, the car returned to GTO Engineering for regular servicing (invoices available to view on file). Accompanied by a history file, “Red Book”, and report by Ferrari historian Marcel Massini, this supremely glamorous 330 GTC makes for, as its name suggests, a consummate grand-touring coupé. 1966 Ferrari 330 GTC by Pininfarina RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. We are pleased to offer this very special and unique Proteus XJ13 for sale. Chassis number P90003 was built between 1991 and 1993 and remained with its original owner’s family for 20 years. One of only seven Jaguar XJ13 recreations built by Proteus, this car is now available at the Car Barn ready to be enjoyed this summer. During the build of this XJ13 great attention to detail was given to all aspects of the car. Included in this car’s extensive history files are copies of correspondence between the first owner and ZF in Germany, ensuring it had the correct transaxle gearbox for instance. At the heart of the car is a 6.1 litre Jaguar V12, prepared by Jaguar engine specialist Dave Butcher, with individual throttles and trumpets per cylinder, electronic fuel injection and ignition system, dry sump lubrication with rear oil cooler and an alloy oil tank. Over the years the engine has been further fettled and refined, and it now produces around 380bhp. With a car that weighs around 1000kgs this provides superb performance. The engine really is the beating heart of this car, and the noise is incredible. The car has two huge history folders containing every bill and receipt dating back to its build, and it has quite the back story. To keep the car looking and feeling as authentic as possible, cast alloy wheels were produced using the original XJ13 wheel moulds. The body was produced with louvred bonnet, side and boot panels, coupled with a polished aluminium cockpit, period dials, plexiglass windows, Moto-Lita steering wheel and period lighting which gives the car a highly accurate finish. Whilst the car has never been raced and has only covered just over 3000 miles from new, it is presented with a beautiful patina which defies the true age of the car. In 1997 the car was taken to renowned Jaguar specialist Don Law who described it as ‘being beautifully assembled and a credit to you. The detail is superb’. They went into the finer detail with the car, looking at not only some smaller issues with the running of the vehicle but also making sure the suspension and well set up. The team at Don Law described the finely tuned XJ13 as having ‘mild understeer which can now be transferred to controllable oversteer with introduction of throttle’. There is also reference to the owner requesting Don Law not to cut any corners in making this one of the best examples out there. Latterly in its life Racing Green Cars also cast their specialist eyes over the vehicle. It wasn’t until 2013 when the car finally left the family who built it, and it has been recently been the star of a private collection abroad where the car had full TUV approval. It’s is now back in the UK and the Car Barn have carried out some light re-commissioning work to ensure it is fighting fit and ready to enjoy this summer. 1967 Jaguar Proteus XJ13 Car Barn If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. It wasn’t until 2013 when the car finally left the family who built it, and it has been recently been the star of a private collection abroad where the car had full TUV approval. - 1969-de-tomaso-mangusta-by-ghia
“Mangusta” was not just an exotic name for a wedge-shaped supercar: It was also a statement of intent on the part of Alejandro de Tomaso. After winding up on the short end of a deal with Carroll Shelby in the mid-1960s, he named his new creation after the mongoose, or mangusta in Italian—the natural enemy of the deadly cobra snake. Of course, De Tomaso’s Mangusta was radically different than Shelby’s Cobra in design. It was styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro in a low-slung rear-mid-engine format, using a racing-derived backbone chassis with independent suspension and disc brakes, evolved from that of the earlier De Tomaso Vallelunga and the advanced Sport 5000 racing prototype. Yet like the Cobra, power came courtesy of the Blue Oval: Save for one Chevrolet-powered example, every Mangusta would get either a Ford 289 or 302 V-8, accessed via the gullwing-style hatches of the rear engine compartment. This was mated to a ZF five-speed transaxle. While the Mangusta demanded a skilled driver to extract maximum performance potential, particularly when it came to handling, it was undeniably fast—155 mph speeds were reported—and it looked spectacular. In total, 401 Mangustas were built from 1967 to 1971 before De Tomaso switched production to the Pantera, which was made in much higher numbers. This car, chassis number 8MA0994, is one of 50 believed to have been equipped new with pop-up double headlamps. A US-delivery example, its early history is not presently known; however, it spent much of its life up until 2008 in California. At that point, it was acquired by De Tomaso marque specialists Roger Brotton and Phillip Stebbings in the UK and subjected to a comprehensive restoration on behalf of a client in that country. With a very solid and complete car as a starting point, no expense was spared to make this one of the finest Mangustas in existence. Numerous invoices on file, as well as correspondence with Brotton, detail the tremendous amount of work lavished upon the car. Its livery of black—always a difficult color to execute well on hand-formed bodywork—over a red interior works beautifully on Giugiaro’s wedge design. Beneath the trademark gullwing engine covers sits a correct Ford 302-cubic-inch V-8 and ZF five-speed transaxle. The motor has been upgraded with a 340 stroker kit and is said to produce 330 horsepower. After completion of the restoration in 2015, the Mangusta was exhibited at the 2018 London Concours and was featured in a Classic & Sports Car article comparing it, very favorably, to the Lamborghini Miura and Ferrari GTB/4 Daytona. Acquired by the consignor in 2021 and returned to the United States, its masterful restoration continues to impress today. Now accompanied by build sheet copies, invoices, and correspondence, this is a most impressive representation of De Tomaso’s ambitious “Cobra-killer”—a Mangusta to exhibit or enjoy on the open road. 1969 De Tomaso Mangusta by Ghia RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1968-jaguar-e-type-42
This superb Jaguar E-type was built during the final year of Series 1 production, and hasrecently benefitted from a full restoration in which the painstaking attention to detail even extended to using bolts with period-correct markings. Completed at the Browns Lane factory on 26 January 1968, chassis number 1E 16873 was a left-hand-drive Roadster that was dispatched to Jaguar Cars, New York, on 12 February. It was finished in Opalescent Silver Grey with a red interior and a black hood. By 1972, the E-type was owned by John Kenneth Long, who lived in Redondo Beach, California. The history file includes a 1974 invoice that was issued by Parnelli Jones Firestone on Hawthorne Boulevard in Torrance, for the car’s smog certificate. It seems that Long then moved to Parker, Colorado, and took the Jaguar with him. Its current UK-based owner bought it from a dealer in Colorado, and a windscreen sticker suggested that it had last been taxed in 1980-81. He recalled that the car was ‘quite dishevelled’ but looked to be ‘remarkably free from rust’, and he duly had it shipped to the UK in October 2011. A talented engineer, he then embarked on a restoration that eventually returned the E-type to the road in August 2017. While he took care of the mechanical side of things, he carefully selected a number of specialists for other elements of the rebuild. The bodywork, for example, was delegated to Pitt Lane Restorations in Winchester, while BAS International made and fitted the interior trim. A new mohair soft-top was also fitted, a tonneau cover was made, and the floors were given a layer of heat- and sound-proof material – as were the insides of the doors. The engine was fully rebuilt, and was later fine-tuned by Nutts Performance Classics once it was back in the car. The standard four-speed gearbox was replaced by a T5 five-speed manual – a popular E-type modification that makes high-speed running much more comfortable. The differential was also rebuilt with a UK-spec 3.07:1 final drive, and uprated Coopercraft brake calipers were fitted front and rear. Since being completed, this beautiful Jaguar E-type has completed the Fougeres Rally through Normandy and Brittany, and is perfect for classic touring thanks to its well-chosen selection of upgrades. Now offered for sale in its original colour scheme, and having been converted to right-hand drive, it’s a lovely example of the highly coveted Series 1 Roadster. 1968 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 The Classic Motor Hub If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
