- 1984 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV6
First seen in 1972, Giorgetto Giugiaro’s striking Alfetta fastback wedge design directly resulted from the opposing design requirements of delivering a car capable of carrying four people with luggage, modern looks and dynamic sports handling. It was required to replace the hugely successful 105 series cars which was a tough act to follow. The final design with its stunning looks is as beautiful today as it was some fifty years ago and its capability as a driver’s car has become legendary. Alfetta “little Alfa” in Italian, derived its name from the nickname of the 1951 Formula one, Tipo 159 Alfetta which also paired a transaxle layout to De Dion tube rear suspension. The rear de Dion transaxle (clutch and transmission) provided the new Alfetta with excellent weight distribution and lower centre of gravity, with these handling advantages widely acknowledged. Overall, it was a sophisticated and progressive set-up and one that delivered outstanding results when the Alfetta went into competition. During its life, it won events and championships across the globe both on track and in rally guise. They continue to successfully compete to this today in classic race events. When launched the Alfetta GT was powered by the 1.8 litre version of the Alfa DOHC four (taken from the previous 105 series cars). In 1976 this was discontinued in favour of 1.6 litre and 2.0 litre options. Over the subsequent years a number of updates were made to both engines and the appearance of the cars. In late 1980 Alfa Romeo coupled the cars excellent handling with its legendary V6 ‘Busso’ engine and the GTV 6 2.5 was born. The bonnet received a bulge to clear the top of the intake and became a defining feature. With Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection replacing carbs, the V6 was easier to start and retain its state of tune. The V6 received rave reviews and it found its true home in the GTV 6’s striking body where it could demonstrate its ample capabilities underlined with its race successes. The GTV6 cemented its position as an Alfa Romeo legend and its affection within the Alfa Romeo community is enduring. Our car; chassis 3003760. As confirmed by its Certificate of Origin our car was produced in December 1984 and delivered new to NSW in December 1985 in light grey metallic paint with its classic grey pinstripe interior. This is how the car presents today. These cars are rare, and most are tired and have lacked attention. By contrast, the most recent owner has lavished much attention and investment to make this car an excellent example and well sorted driving car. After purchase he had the car stripped to bare metal for paint. It was found to be in remarkably good condition with only new metal required in the front lower guards and one small area to the boot lid. The paint presents really well, and we think the original silver suits this car perfectly. The original plastic bumpers have also been painted in a darker metallic grey and whilst not original do enhance the overall presentation of the car providing a feeling of quality. As with many GTV6 cars, it has had an engine upgrade and now runs with a 3.0L motor from an Alfa Romeo 164. We believe this was done around 14 years ago and correspondence confirms it was done by a known specialist. Under current ownership and as part of the restoration mechanical work has been thorough and extensive including renovation or replacement of all key ancillary parts such as timing belt, leads, water pump, alternator, hoses and so on. A recent compression test shows excellent results. Other items attended to included (but not limited to) new brake pads and rotors, wheel bearings, new bushes, reconditioned steering rack, wheel bearings and master cylinders, all of which add up to make the car an excellent driving example. The original interior was in excellent presentation; however, the dash was restored, and an original unused steering wheel sourced at great cost. The front seats show some signs of fading, but this is being picky. They are incredibly comfortable to sit in, and the ‘net’ head rests are a particularly appealing feature. The compressor for the air-conditioning was removed when the new engine was installed however this could be put back in if required. The sunroof works as it should and the original headlining is in very good order. Overall, the interior is a lovely place to be. The instruments are fresh without any hint of age and all the electrical items work as it should. Even the clock keeps perfect time! The engine bay and ‘Busso V6’ is a visual treat with some detailing being done including hydro blasting the plenum chamber and cam covers. The wheels have been refurbished and present as new with fresh rubber, this includes the spare wheel too. The boot is as expected is excellent and the boot floor and wheel well are excellent. The underside of the car is clean and in fine order. Turn the key and the car starts with a familiar Alfa Romeo growl. Blip the throttle and the V6 provides its familiar appealing tone. Out on the open road this car is exceptional. The engine with its increase in capacity to 3.0 litres provides a useful lift in torque and power. This really does translate when you experience this car. Not only does it pull well below 3,000 rpm but after about 4,000 the car really does come alive and the tone of the V6 really is magical. It just pulls and pulls with a spine-tingling soundtrack. Ordinarily the gearboxes on GTV’s can be a little vague, however with this example it is precise and easy to work very quickly through the gears in complete confidence. Likewise, the brakes and steering are incredibly good, inspiring confidence when you want to push on. And in this car, you will want to do exactly that. It’s a marvel to drive and will not fail to put a smile on your dial. Accompanying the car is a thick folder of invoices and work done totalling over $35,000. We are informed that were many more invoices and value for time spent were simply not kept. It is registered in NSW on club plates and was recently driven by a known specialist mechanic and given a clean bill of health. It is now ready to be enjoyed by its next owner. This is one well sorted car and given the recent investment made represents good buying. 1984 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV6 Cool Classic Club If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1962-jaguar-e-type-38
The Series 1 3.8 Fixed-Head Coupé is among the most coveted of all Jaguar E-types, and this superbly restored example benefits from some subtle upgrades to make it even more usable and enjoyable. Chassis number 860303 was built on 19 March 1962, and dispatched on 27 April to Jaguar Distributors in Leeds. It was then sold new to a Dr LE Mitchell by Newton of Huddersfield, which was owned by a family that included two rally-driving daughters who were known as the ‘Mad Newton Sisters’. One of them became a highly successful works driver for the likes of Ford and BMC under her married name of Anne Hall. The registration number 692 KGE was issued in Glasgow, and the E-type was mentioned in the September 1979 issue of Jaguar Driver magazine. At that time, it was owned by David Walker of Crossgates in Fife, and a note said: ‘Body has been assembled, including a brand-new bonnet, engine rebuilt by Sandy Barnett and hopefully going to be on the road next year.’ By 2005, the E-type had been repainted Golden Sand with a Tan interior. It was subsequently restored in Sweden by an owner who was based just north of Stockholm, and the car returned to the road there in 2019. In 2020, it was acquired by a UK-based enthusiast who sent it straight to CKL Developments for assessment. It was decided that the panel fit needed improving in certain areas, and the cylinder head was rebuilt with new tappets, valves and guides. The differential was also overhauled with a new crownwheel and pinion, plus new bearings and seals throughout. Since 2022, further work has been carried out by Southern Classics, including a rebuild of the Getrag five-speed gearbox and the fitment of a new clutch plate and release bearing. The radiator has also been recored and an adjustable front torsion bar reaction plate has been fitted. A retro-look DAB stereo, complete with Bluetooth and hands-free functionality, has been subtly incorporate into the centre console, and there is also a discreet USB charging port. Presented in its original colours of Opalescent Gunmetal with Grey interior, this beautiful Jaguar E-type is offered for sale complete with its original four-speed gearbox, plus a Heritage Certificate and a USB stick full of restoration photographs. 1962 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 The Classic Motor Hub If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1981 Porsche 911 SC Targa
This 1981 Porsche 911 SC Targa is finished in Black over Black and is a great example for enthusiasts who want to get behind the wheel of a classic 911 at a more reasonable price point. Sold new at Sun West Inc. of St. Petersburg, Florida, the car has spent time in Florida, Texas, Canada and most recently, California, where it has been since 2017. Although the car shows 59,761 miles, it bears noting that the true mileage of the car is unknown. The classic “Impact-Bumper” 911 shape is on full display with this car, but when you approach the vehicle, you realize that it is by no means a show car. Originally finished in Colorado Beige and repainted black in the car's past, the finish was not applied to the highest standard, exhibiting some cracking, crazing, and marks around the car. The Targa roll hoop, typically finished in black anodized stainless steel, is wrapped with a textured carbon fiber look material, and the car has a few sizable dents. For a complete rundown of this 911 Targa’s condition, please refer to the inspection report below. Issimi’s comprehensive inspections offer an in-depth look at the car you want, without needing a 3rd-party pre-purchase inspection. On the interior, black leather covers the seats, both front and rear, as well as the lower door cards. The interior layout of a 911 from this vintage is not all that different from the classic 911s of the 1960s and 1970s, which is something that they were critiqued for at the time but is now is applauded for its simplicity. Although the layout is simple, this car benefits from numerous convenience features like power windows, air conditioning and dealer-installed cruise control. Also, an upgraded Kenwood head unit has been installed, allowing radio and CD compatibility. Like on the exterior, there is some wear noted on the inside of this 911- namely a tear in the driver’s seat and dry leather. Once again, for a full view of what this car needs, please look at the Inspection Report. Sitting behind the passengers is a 3.0-liter air cooled flat-6 that is rated from the factory at 172 horsepower and 189 lb-ft of torque. Records show some work completed by well-known Southern California engine builder Mirage International Inc. and a head rebuild by Moonlight Machine- all of which took place in 2017. This engine is connected to a “915” 5-speed manual transaxle, a gearbox known for retaining the classic 911 feel and tends to be an enthusiast choice when it comes to these G-Body 911s. The original tie rods have been swapped out for units from a 930 Turbo, and the catalytic converter has been replaced with a test pipe- meaning that in this configuration, the car cannot be registered in California. This car is perfect for somebody who wants a 911 Targa that they can drive and enjoy while working on some projects here and there to take this car to the next level. In its desirable black/black color combination, with Fuchs wheels and solid running gear, this car is the perfect jumping-off point- or if looks don’t bother you- a perfect car to use every day without worrying about damaging a showpiece. 1981 Porsche 911 SC Targa ISSIMI, Inc If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. With its long hood and the seductive Azzuro (16240) exterior color and beige leather interior, it brings a Mediterranean feeling. Not to forget, this copy consists of completely matching numbers and colors! - 1964 Porsche 356C Outlaw
In its original colors, Irish Green with Brown leather 1720cc, SC camshaft, Solex carburetors, 12 volt upgrade 6 x 15-inch steel wheels with 195/65 R15 Pirelli P6000 tires Lowered suspension, Koni shocks The final iteration of the 356 Previously restored by well-known marque expert, Gary Kempton 1964 marked the release of the final iteration of the 356 with the deliverance of the 356C. This update in the 356 now sported disk brakes all around, as well as optional SC specifications. The 356C was manufactured starting in July 1963 and ending in September 1965. By the time the 356C debuted in 1963, the 356 had undergone numerous updates and enhancements over the years and had nearly done away with what remained of its humble Volkswagen beginnings. The 356C is unquestionably the best and most complete design to date. This 356C belonged to a dedicated 356 enthusiast who had owned the vehicle for nearly 55 years. He was the 3rd owner, who had just begun his journey as a devoted PCA member after purchasing the car in March 1967 for $2,750. Over his initial decade of ownership, the vehicle was a daily driver until he decided to garage the car for almost 20 years before giving it the restoration it deserved. In 1999, this 356C began the process of a ground-up restoration spanning over three years by the late noted restorer, Gary Kempton. During this intricate restoration, a number of areas were addressed, including but not limited to bodywork, paint, chrome, interior, engine, transmission, suspension, and a 6v to 12v conversion. Midway through the process, it was decided that this 356C would receive notable upgrades, specifically a 1720cc big bore kit, SC camshafts, Solex carburetors, Koni shocks, 6-inch wheels wrapped in 195/65 R15 Pirelli P6000 tires, bespoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a beautiful-sounding Leistritz muffler. After receiving his vehicle in 2002, he enjoyed this 356C for almost two decades before selling it to its most recent owner in 2021. Upon arrival at Canepa, every collector car for sale is put through an extensive and diligent process called the “Canepa Difference.” This includes a major and comprehensive mechanical inspection where all systems are checked, serviced, and restored as needed. They also receive an award-winning concours-level detailing, including a thorough cleaning of each and every surface. Extensive road testing and final adjustments were made to the 356C to constitute an engaging driving experience. What followed was a concours level detail (over 100 hours), including hand cleaning every area of the engine, transmission, chassis, engine bay, underbody etc., complete with careful detailing of every corner of the front trunk, interior, and exterior finishes and trim. This is your opportunity to own an example of the final iteration of the 356, updated in subtle outlaw improvements to create a fun driving excitement every day. 1964 Porsche 356C Outlaw Canepa If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1954 Aston Martin DB2/4
Factory left-hand drive example with sliding sunroof Retains its matching-numbers original engine Documented by copy of its Aston Martin build sheet and Heritage Trust Certificate Previous long-term ownership of nearly 40 years Mechanically restored by Steel Wings with invoices in excess of $65,000 A unique and highly eligible entrant for the most prestigious rallies Successful Participant in the 2023 Tejas Turismo Hill Country Rally Bespoke Coco Mats, Refinished Wheels and Cosmetic Freshening 2024 Inspection, Scheduled Service and Detailing This delightfully charming DB2/4 is one of 565 Mark I models produced, and is documented by both its Aston Martin build sheet and a copy of its Heritage Trust certificate. A factory left-hand-drive model built for export, chassis number LML/576 was produced on 28 October 1953 in original colors of Sea Green over Beige Connolly hides, and was destined for Belgium in February 1954, where its sale was handled by the Ets. R. Mannes agency. Its build sheet notes that it was fitted with heavy duty shock absorbers and specifies other distinct features such as a kph speedometer, which it still retains today. Its first owner was Andre Pelgrims of Brussels, a member of a prominent local family whose residence, the Maison Pelgrims, exists today as a celebrated art exhibition venue. While few details of its early European history are known, the DB2/4 eventually made its way to the United States. It came into the possession of Lance Sterman of Stockbridge, Massachusetts in the early 1980s, and thus would begin a nearly four decade period of enthusiastic ownership. By 2012, Sterman elected to conduct a comprehensive mechanical overhaul undertaken by the Aston Martin specialists at Steel Wings of Ivyland, Pennsylvania. This work, completed over a five year period from 2012-2017, is documented in receipts amounting to over $65,000. A considerable amount of focus was given to the engine, which was carefully disassembled and rebuilt utilizing a billet crankshaft. Likewise, other systems were rebuilt, serviced, and replaced with the fuel, cooling, braking, and carburetion systems noted as having received attention. With a view towards driving enjoyment and reliability, certain improvements were made including the addition of upgraded front hubs, an electric fan, and an upgraded oil pump. The wiring harness and exhaust system were also replaced. All in all, the mission was to create the ultimate vintage British road rally machine that would fit like an old glove but be backed by a fresh rebuild by one of the most respected names associated with the marque. With the work complete, Sterman was able to participate in the 2018 AMOC Lime Rock Road Rally. The DB2/4 quickly captured the attention of AMOC members due to its unique combination of “as discovered” cosmetic condition in contrast to its rally purpose built mechanicals. More recently, service work has included a new brake master cylinder as well as new wheel cylinders in 2023. LML/576 embodies the 1950s British rally car aesthetic, and represents a rare, sporting, highly eligible choice for some of the most prestigious international collector car events, including the Mille Miglia and the California Mille. As a factory left-hand-drive example still with its original engine and retaining many original features, and with major fettling completed by Steel Wings in recent years, LML/576 is a compelling choice for continued historic event participation, either Stateside or back across the pond. 1954 Aston Martin DB2/4 Driver Source Fine Motorcars If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. History The history of this Lotus XI has been the subject of extensive research by a prior owner, Don Burrows. In a nutshell it begins with the ex-Tommy Sopwith Equipe Endeavor car, chassis #164. That car’s period racing history appears to have ended with Graham Hill in a crash at Snetterton in 1956. The car’s chassis was then replaced with chassis #239. But what happened with the original Sopwith chassis #164? The car offered here could be that chassis. Below is a summary of the early racing history of the Sopwith chassis #164. After that is the research conducted by Don Burrows. The research is supported by voluminous correspondence with the Historic Lotus Register, prior owners, Lotus XI restorers, period racing records and reports, forensic examination of the chassis, and more. Burrows concluded, based upon this research, that the car is likely chassis #164, the original Sopwith Lotus XI chassis. The Period Racing Record Tommy Sopwith was the son of Sir Thomas Sopwith, who designed the famous Sopwith Camel biplane fighter aircraft for England in World War 1. Tommy, an experienced racer himself, purchased chassis 164 initially for street use. He then had the car converted for racing use, and the car went on to have an extensive, and successful history in not only his hands, but also those of Graham Hill, Archie Scott Brown, and Harry Schell. Their team was known as “Equipe Endeavour.” The registration number “TMY 400” was secured upon original delivery to Sopwith in 1956. The car’s period racing history is reported below. May, 1956 Archie Scott Brown, Brands Hatch, 4th May, 1956 Graham Hill, Crystal, Palace, 3rd June, 1956 J.F. Crawley, Silverstone, 4th June, 1956 J.F. Crawley, Snetterton, 3rd June, 1956 Archie Scott Brown, Aintree, 3rd July, 1956 Harry Schell, Rouen, 3rd July, 1956 Reg Parnell, British G.P., 3rd July, 1956 Archie Scott Brown, Snetterton, 2nd Aug., 1956 Tommy Sopwith, Great Aulcom, 1st (hill climb) Sept., 1956 Tommy Sopwith, Prescott Hill Climb, DNF Sept., 1956 Tommy Sopwith, Brands Hatch, 1st in sprint Sept., 1956 Mac Fraser, Oulton Park, DNF Oct., 1956 Graham Hill, Snetterton, Shunt. (damaged steering) The Don Burrows Research According to the Historic Lotus Registry’s former president, Graham Capel, in a letter dated November 5, 1991, to the Lotus’ then owner, George Nuse of Norcross, Georgia (USA), this car was restored by Crostwaithe and Gardiner (“C&G”) from an original but dilapidated Lotus XI chassis delivered to them by Peter Bloor. Apparently Bloor had collected the chassis and additional body panels from various sources. Bloor commissioned C&G to restore the chassis and parts into a running car for him. A number of the chassis tubes were replaced, including repairs to the front of the chassis which had prior accident damage. C&G completely rebuilt the chassis and then they used it as the model to build an additional three or four replica Lotus XI’s. Capel went on to say that unlike the three replicas, Bloor’s car was the car with the original Lotus XI chassis sections, although he could not say exactly which Lotus XI that chassis had been. Capel was, however, able to link the Bloor chassis to its prior owner, Tony Florio of Surbiton, who had the chassis in the 1970’s. Capel further opined that Bloor’s now fully restored Lotus XI was not the ex-Tommy Sopwith car. However in that letter he did not further explain the reasons for that opinion. He did say that the connection of the Bloor with the Sopwith car may have come from the blue side pontoon that Bloor delivered along with the chassis and other parts to C&G to use in restoring the Lotus. However, Capel said that several Lotus XI’s were painted blue, so that this fact alone could not prove that this car was the Sopwith car. A copy of Mr. Capel’s letter is included in the photos section below. During the C&G restoration a new aluminum alloy body by Williams & Pritchard, the original builders of the Lotus XI bodies, was fitted to the fully restored chassis. The restoration was completed in 1988. In 1990 the Lotus was sold by Bloor through U.K. car dealer Chris Alford to George Nuse of Norcross, Georgia, USA. There the car remained in Nuse’s collection of historic racing cars for over a decade. It may have been raced, but only one time a vintage race at Road Atlanta honoring the Lotus marque. The Lotus was then purchased by Don Burrows of Santa Barbara, California in May, 2004. Burrows performed a mechanical refurbishment of the car as it had mostly been sitting on display for the past 10+ years. During this time Burrows began to research the history of the car. He contacted George Nuse to learn what he could about the car’s history, and who the prior owners were so that he could try and contact them. Nuse related that he purchased the car from Peter Bloor through the car dealer Chris Alford in the U.K. The name of Tony Florio was also associated with the car at some point as well. In addition Nuse said that the car could be the ex-Tommy Sopwith Lotus XI but that he did not have actual proof of that one way or the other. See May 6, 2004 correspondence from Nuse to Burrows below. Burrows found Tony Florio in England. Florio indicated that he owned two Lotus XI chassis and parts in the 1970’s. He said he could not recall specifically how, or from whom, he had acquired the two different chassis, but did recall that one of the chassis was damaged in the front. He restored one chassis as a road going club model and sold it. He later sold the second, damaged, chassis with some bits, but could not recall to whom. Interestingly, Peter Bloor acquired a Lotus XI Le Mans chassis with front end damage along with other Lotus XI parts during this same time period. He would later bring this chassis and parts to C&G to restore. Burrows then corresponded with Victor Thomas, founder of the Historic Lotus Register. That correspondence indicates that the original chassis for car #164 was subsequently replaced by chassis #239. Chassis #239 still existed as of the date of their correspondence, May 23, 2004. However, what happened to, and the whereabouts of, the original Sopwith chassis #164 was an open question. See the Victor Thomas correspondence of May 23, 2004 below. After concluding his research, Burrows wrote a summary of what he found and his conclusions. A copy of that summary is included below. The summary basically concludes that there are multiple reasons why this particular chassis could well be the original Sopwith chassis #164. This chassis, like the 1956 Sopwith chassis, was an early one based upon certain design characteristics of the front suspension that were changed at Lotus after the first 70 chassis had been built. The original chassis that Tony Florio acquired and later sold to Peter Bloor had front damage. A summary of period race records for #164 shows that the original #164 chassis sustained front end damage in the car’s last race with Graham Hill at Snetterton in 1964. According to correspondence from Victor Thomas, it seems that #164 was damaged significantly enough that the chassis was replaced by chassis #239. That would have left chassis #164 still existing in its damaged form, and available for later purchase by Florio. Florio did report that he did acquire an early chassis with front end damage in the 1970’s. Bloor reportedly obtained his original Lotus XI chassis from Florio. This was the same front damaged chassis that Bloor delivered to C&G to be repaired and restored into a Lotus XI, chassis number then unknown. Several copy Lotus XI’s were made by C&G using this original chassis as a model. When the C&G restoration was completed, the Lotus was sold by Bloor through Chris Alford to George Nuse in the U.S. Nuse then sold it to Burrows. The car had the name “Graham Hill” on it at that time. In 2007, Monte Shelton Jaguar in Portland, Oregon sold the Lotus to noted Lotus racer and collector, Nick Grewal. Grewal reportedly raced the Lotus in Europe and in the U.S. He invested heavily in the car generating another full binder of receipts which reportedly totals over $130,000. After a decade of ownership and development, the Lotus was sold from the Grewal collection to the car’s current owner. Under current ownership the Lotus has raced in California including the Rolex Monterey Reunion and the Sonoma Festival of Speed. The car has also been shown at the Hillsborough Concours d’Elegance, and the Carmel Concours and the Avenue. The car won the Christie L. Miller British Cup at the Carmel Concours. The Lotus was most recently on the track at the CSRG Finale at Thunderhill in November, 2024. The car drove beautifully and was instantly up to speed. The car remains in excellent condition. Description The Lotus is equipped with split axle front suspension. The rear suspension is DeDion with twin trailing arms. Brakes are 9.5” outboard front and 9” inboard rear. Steering is Morris Minor rack & pinion. The wire wheels are 15X4.” Recent work on the Lotus includes a fresh Ivey Engines rebuild of its 1.5 liter Coventry Climax FWB engine. The engine now has two races on it. The eleven has new front brake calipers from Crosthwaite and Gardiner. The Sprite rib case gearbox with Quaife dog box internals has just been gone through, including a new input shaft and new Tilton clutch assembly. The eleven is also fitted with the new, stronger, Titan Engineering billet front spindles. New heavy duty rear half shaft assemblies have also just been installed. The Lotus will come with two large binders full of research, race records, correspondence, receipts, photos, concours descriptions, log books, etc. Is this the Sopwith, Archie Scott Brown, Graham Hill, Harry Schell, Reg Parnell, Mac Fraser Lotus XI, chassis #164? Of course we cannot say for sure at this point. Then again, we cannot say for sure that it is not. It certainly could be, and that is what Don Burrows concluded. Regardless, it seems by all accounts that we have seen thus far that this car was restored from a front end damaged original Lotus XI chassis by Lotus restoration experts Crosthwaite and Gardiner. It also received a new alloy body constructed by the original Lotus XI body builders, Williams & Pritchard. That’s not all bad, right? If you can confirm the car’s original history, that will be spectacular for you. If not, at a minimum you have a fabulous Lotus XI that you can run in fine historic races worldwide. 1956 Lotus 11 Series 1 Le Mans Fantasy Junction If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1965 Aston Martin DB5 1
Supplied new via Societe Nouvelle du Garage Mirabeau in Paris, this left-hand-drive Aston Martin DB5 remained in France until being exported the UK in 2015, and comes with a wealth of paperwork that shows how well maintained it has been throughout its life. Chassis number 1995/L was built at the Newport Pagnell factory on 4 March 1965 and fitted with engine number 400/1984. It was originally finished in Sierra Blue with Dark Blue interior and was specified with Armstrong Selectaride dampers, chrome wire wheels and Normalair air-conditioning. The latter was a first on an Aston Martin when offered on the DB5, and added £320 to the list price. Its first owner is named on the factory service record as being Henri Boris, who lived on Boulevard Lannes in the western fringes of Paris. The car returned to the factory on 18 July 1967 for a full service, by which time it had covered just under 15,000 kilometres. In 1973, the DB5 was sold – again via Garage Mirabeau – to a Monsieur Trepsat, who lived in Lyons. He kept it for 10 years before selling it in 1983 to Bernard Faure, and it passed in short order to Patrick Sersoub, who would hold on to it for the next 30 years. The history file is full of correspondence relating to his time with the Aston Martin, with invoices from suppliers such as Aston Service Dorset and advice on an engine rebuild during the 1990s from marque specialist Andy Chapman. When Sersoub finally parted with the car, it was brought to the UK and the front suspension and brakes were overhauled, with Polybushes being fitted. Now presented in the iconic colour of Silver Birch but with the trim still in the original Dark Blue, this Aston Martin DB5 is being offered for sale having never been fully restored but always meticulously maintained by its long term owners. It comes with an extensive history file that includes photographs of the recent work that’s been carried out, and it’s an extremely usable example of this legendary British grand tourer. MODEL HISTORY The Aston Martin DB5 is one of the most instantly recognisable cars ever built thanks to its iconic role in the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger, but backing up that film-star charisma is an enduring blend of Italian styling and British engineering. When the DB4 had been launched in 1958, it marked the beginning of a new era thanks to a body shape that had been designed by Touring of Milan – from which Aston Martin also licensed the Superleggera method of lightweight construction. Touring’s crisp, clean shape was fitted around a new six-cylinder engine that had been designed by Tadek Marek. Regularly updated throughout its production run, the DB4 was eventually replaced by the DB5 at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show. For this latest model, the engine was bored-out from 3670cc to 3995cc, and very early in production a five-speed gearbox replaced the old four-speeder – there was also the option of a three-speed Borg Warner automatic. On the standard triple SU carburettors, power output from the twin-cam straight-six was 282bhp, with the Vantage model kicking out 314bhp on triple Webers. Braking was via servo-assisted Girling discs all round, rather than the Dunlop system that the standard DB4 had used. When The Motor tested a DB5, it recorded a top speed of 145mph, making it one of the fastest production cars of its time. The magazine recorded a 0-60mph time of 7.1 seconds and noted that it ‘cruises to 100mph with absurd ease and quietness [and] can be guided through fast corners with great accuracy’. In 1965, this now-legendary model was replaced by the extended-wheelbase DB6 after just over 1000 had been built. Nearly 60 years later, it remains one of the most desirable and coveted cars ever made. 1965 Aston Martin DB5 The Classic Motor Hub If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
