- 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL
The 3.0 CSL is a lightweight, performance-oriented version of the standard 3.0 CS/3.0 CSi coupé. Utilising the E9 platform, the 3.0 CSL was unveiled at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show and was introduced in May 1972 as an homologation model for the German Touring Car Championship developed by a separate division within BMW AG, a division that would later become BMW Motorsport GmbH.The CSL achieved some great results, with wins at Le Mans in the touring car class in 1973 and 1974, the IMSA GT Championship in 1975, and winning the European Touring Car Championships every year from 1973 to 1979 (apart from a minor blip in 1974).The 'L' in the designation meant leicht (light), unlike in other BMW designations, where it meant lang (long). A total of 1,096 CSLs were built, with just 500 of these being imported into the UK. The great majority of UK cars had the 'City Package' option fitted, designed to make the 3.0 CSL more usable as a daily driver. These versions retained the standard interior trim, negating the total weight saving somewhat, but the other benefits were retained, including aero kit, thinner gauge steel and aluminium parts. Early CSLs, produced in late 1971 and early 1972, utilised the standard 2,985cc M30 inline-six engine with twin carburettors and were only offered in left-hand drive. They were replaced by a fuel-injected model displacing 3,003cc available in right-hand drive during late 1972 and early 1973. Fuel-injected CSLs with the 3-litre motor have VINs that run from 2275001 through 2275429 (left-hand drive version) and 2285-001 through 2285-500 (right-hand drive UK cars). The fabulous CSL on offer here, finished in Taiga Green with a black interior, is #2285-469, indicating that it was built right at the end of the UK-allocated cars. Much of the early servicing was carried out by BMW dealer, Fairfield Garage of Leigh on Sea, at the instruction of of Mr. Hudson of the Facet Group. Multiple invoices show he used the CSL up to a mileage of 47,000. It then resided in Hertfordshire for nearly 21 years with its new lady owner, who obviously used it lightly as she covered less than 12,000 miles during that period. There is a record of some renovation work taking place in the mid-1980s prior to it being sold in 2003 at a mileage of 61,900, corroborated by past MOTs. In 2005, it was purchased by our vendor who has used and maintained it, with a full account of his expenditure on repairs and maintenance fastidiously kept in the comprehensive history file. The majority of the servicing from 2006 was conducted by our vendor's hometown garage, J.J. Griffiths of Lllandrindod Wells, with any bodywork attention by King of Cool Classic Cars and the front seats were retrimmed by West Country Trimmers in 2017. Most recent mechanical work was carried out by Munich Legends in 2021 and there is an invoice for an oil change in September 2023. This lovely, stylish, low-owners BMW 3.0 CSL coupé enjoys an impressive history file and service record and represents a fine example of the car that defined Touring Cars in the 1970s and, 50 years later, still has a presence that few cars can match. 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The Jaguar E-type is a British automobile legend, manufactured by Jaguar between 1961 and 1975. A combination of good looks, high performance, and competitive pricing ensured the car was an instant legend. In period, a Ferrari cost three times more and supplied less horsepower which established the marque as an icon of 1960s motoring. The model became a great success for Jaguar; at its release Enzo Ferrari called it "the most beautiful car ever made". Leveraging the monocoque construction of the D-type, the design enables two advantages. The front subframe for engine mounting, suspension and steering assembly affords excellent aerodynamic properties whilst keeping weight low and more importantly, centre of gravity low. The model was made in three distinct versions which are now generally referred to as "Series 1", "Series 2" and "Series 3". A transitional series between Series 1 and Series 2 is known, unofficially, as "Series 1½", and before even the 1½, around 300 interim cars exist. The Series 1 4.2-litre roadster is often thought of as the most desirable specification E-type striking the perfect balance between the early and pure looks of the first cars with the benefit of additional torque and power from the enlarged motor. Sir Robert Ropner’s request for an E-type Lightweight for the road came after the completion of the 12 competition cars. A prominent name and an avid collector of the marque, the Browns Lane factory made it happen. Fitted with the 5-speed ZF gearbox as the lightweights did, this example is further equipped with countless details that were on the Ropner-special. The devil is truly in the details with this restoration and the combination water temperature and oil temperature gauge is arguably to greatest nod to Ropner’s exacting request lifted from his earlier XK120! From the outside, it would be a challenge to notice the differences on this E-type from when it was supplied new through Charles Hornburg of Los Angeles in July of 1967. Resplendent today in the very same British Racing Green over Suede Green interior and black soft top, perhaps the addition of period-correct Dunlop cast wheels hints at its mechanical prowess. Purchased by the current keeper five years ago form California, the car had enjoyed just two previous keepers. The first owner had enjoyed the car sparingly for a few years and after falling pregnant, placed the car into storage in 1969. The Californian ‘black plates’ were renewed until 1974, but the car would remain in dry storage for over 50 years. Boasting all original metalwork, the car was imported to the UK and sent to marque specialists E-type UK for a comprehensive bare metal restoration. Once taken back to a bare shell, it was evident that the Californian climate had been kind to the Jaguar and supported by an evident lifetime of generous care, remained completely rust-free. Just one floor panel was replaced after a misplaced jack in the late 60s had created and unfixable dent! With the bodywork being prepared for paint, a decision was made to return the car to its original close headlamp configuration. A change in U.S. law had seen the original headlight covers outlawed and Jaguar’s short-term fix was a revised chrome surround. Original chrome surrounds with lense covers were fitted. With this minor amendment carried out, the car was once more refinished in its original British Racing Green hue. Having owned several E-types previously including UPM 400, CUT7 and countless others, the restoration of this example was intended from the start to be the ultimate iteration. Supporting a fascinating engine build, this E-type further received a wealth of upgrades with both performance and reliability in mind. 5- speed gearbox Fuel-injection Vented discs and 4 pot E-Type UK calipers Fully-adjustable cable-operated throttle assembly Aluminium radiator and header tank Modern electronic cooling fans Oil cooler Full tubular stainless steel big bore exhaust system Uprated anti-roll bars Uprated torsion bars Fully adjustable suspension front and back The engine has been stroked from the original 4.2-litre unit to 4.7-litres, allied to E-Torque’s bespoke ‘twin-spark’ cylinder head with electronic fuel injection. Integration of a new ECU sees the twin spark plugs per cylinder optimising combustion efficiency, power delivery and responsiveness. The result of this engine work sees this E-type deliver 430 bhp paired with a thumping 390 lb ft, a power to weight ratio that rivals a Porsche 991 Turbo! 0-60 drops well below 5 seconds and the top speed is north of 160 mph; in-gear is where this example really shines. Intended as the ultimate ‘fast-road’ E-type, this example further benefits from fully adjustable front suspension, four-pot calipers over vented disc brakes, performance anti-roll bars and torsion bars and a five-speed gearbox. The interior sees lightweight, period bucket seats trimmed in Suede Green as per original specification. A subtle Retrosound headunit blends in seamlessly and a series of upgrade dials are installed to monitor oil temperature and pressure along with a water temperature gauge. Fresh from its comprehensive restoration, this one-of-a-kind E-type pairs a wealth of motorsport learnings with the ultimate and arguably prettiest road going form to provide the ultimate ‘fast-road’ experience. With every inch of this restoration paying tribute to Ropner’s special, this meticulously restored E-type is ready for its next custodian. This stunning E-type is available to view at our showrooms immediately, accompanied by its history folio, spare key and fully documented restoration book. 1967 Jaguar E-type 4.7 Twin-Spark D.K. Unveiled at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show, the Ferrari 365 GTC/4 was designed as a more refined and luxurious grand touring companion to the revered 365 GTB/4 Daytona. With just 500 units believed produced over a short two-year span, the GTC/4 remains one of Ferrari’s most exclusive 1970s models, beloved for its understated design and everyday practicality. Both in design and performance, the new 365 GTC/4 was more subdued than the aggressive 365 GTB/4 whose chassis it shared. The high-revving 4.4-litre V-12 engine—the “4” in GTC/4 designating quad overhead camshafts—was slightly detuned and less high-strung by comparison, making it torquier and more tractable at lower speeds. The suspension was also softer than that of the GTB/4, while creature comforts like power steering, power windows, and air conditioning were standard. Combining timeless styling, Ferrari V12 performance, and relative rarity, the 365 GTC/4 has become an increasingly desirable model among collectors. Celebrated both in period and by conscientious tifosi today, it remains a sophisticated alternative to its more extroverted counterparts. The 365 GTC/4 on offer, chassis 16233, is a late production example built in the fall of 1972 and originally finished in Marrone (2.443.221) over Pelle Beige (VM 3218) leather trim. Destined for its Italian home market, the car was reportedly sold new in Modena, with its first owner picking the it up from the Ferrari factory. It is believed to have remained in Italy before transferring to the UK in the early 1980s. In 2009, chassis 16233 was acquired by the consignor and repatriated to its native Italy, where it enjoyed a life of modest use before reportedly being treated to an extensive restoration in 2023 by a host of Italian marque specialists. After purportedly receiving full mechanical refresh, the car was resprayed in Ferrari’s hallmark Giallo finish and fitted with a factory-correct beige leather interior. Now offered for the first time in over 16 years, 16233 is a stand-out 365 GTC/4 that’s ready to thrill its next caretaker on tours, rallies, or the show circuit for decades to come. 1972 Ferrari 365 GTC/4 by Pininfarina RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1980 Alpine A310, Serie 1
The Alpine A310 was the French answer to the German Porsche 911: a long-distance GT with 2+2 seats and a V6 rear engine of 2.7 l and 150 hp. Based on the model of its predecessor and multiple world rally champion A110, the A310 also had a central tube chassis and a plastic body. The Alpine A310 offered here was delivered in June 1980 by the Renault dealer Garage Keigel in Frenkendorf to the first owner in the Basel area. It is one of the last of the 1st series with the iconic 3-hole rims and the filigree bumpers, but already with a 5-speed gearbox and electrically adjustable exterior mirrors. The first owner drove the car until 1987, when it was bought by a qualified car and machine mechanic, who meticulously maintained it himself over the past 36 years with every possible care. As was not uncommon in the 1980s, he installed 2 Weber triple carburetors of type 42 DCNF, an electronic ignition, a fan manifold and a 4-pipe ANSA silencer. This significantly improved performance, elasticity and revving pleasure. All original parts are present. Thanks to its low weight of less than 1,000 kg, the Alpine is a lot of fun to drive – pure driving pleasure. The metallic Arctic Ice Blue color and the impeccable Bleu de France interior suit the car perfectly. The driver’s seat has been completely reupholstered professionally. This beautiful Alpine A310 stands on classic 15-inch Gotti rims with new tires and is in absolutely original and top-maintained collector’s condition with original 99,900 km, veteran-tested. The original delivery and warranty card, the owner’s manual and the exhaust maintenance document with no gaps are present. 1980 Alpine A310, Serie 1 Lutziger Classic Cars AG If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1957 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint 1
"Veni, Vidi, Amavi" - (we came, we saw, we fell in love...) The Cool Classic Club proudly presents the epitome of Italian flair from the 1950s: a car whose timeless 'Alfa' charm effortlessly captivates young and old, fan or not. Its delightful, compact lines and the characteristic Alfa roar, believe us, leave no one indifferent. This Giulietta Sprint evokes images of la dolce vita. It has a rich history, cherished for years by three Dutch brothers who are Alfisti through and through, in every sense of the word. Their dedication is evident in the exceptional restoration process, carried out down to the finest details. Their ambition? To create a truly phenomenal example. They took years to ensure it became the ultimate driver’s car. This Giulietta Sprint dates back to 1957 and is the 750B edition. The restoration was executed as it should be: a complete body-off approach and a fully overhauled mechanical system. Since the brothers wanted to make this Alfa the ultimate driver’s car, they also installed a custom Nardi floor-shift gearbox. To complete the picture, the iconic Nardi steering wheel was added. All of this is crowned by the authenticity certificate from Alfa Romeo itself. 1957 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Cool Classic Club If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1961 Maserati 3500GT Vignale Spyder 2
The late 1950s were a halcyon period for Grand Touring cars and few were more stylish than the Maserati 3500GT Vignale Spyder. This particular example – chassis number AM101.1297 – is one of only five right-hand-drive cars built and was completed on 23 May 1961. The Maserati is thought to have been sold new via Arturo Tuena in Genoa to an Englishman who was living in Italy – hence the right-hand-drive configuration. Finished in Acciaio Brunito with a black interior, it originally wore steel wheels but they were later replaced with the optional Borrani wires. As a relatively early example of the 3500GT Spyder, it featured the four-speed gearbox. Not until later in the production run did Maserati fit a five-speed unit. The car was in the UK by 1969, when it was acquired by Stuart Cawley, who had seen it advertised for sale in Motor Sport magazine. It had been repainted Cream but was still on Milanese registration plates, and having bought it for £1200 – against which he part-exchanged his Mercedes-Benz 190SL – Cawley drove it from London back home to Scotland. Having used the Maserati for a couple of years, he drove it down to Italy in 1971 so that the engine could receive some remedial work at Autocorse – as recommended by the factory. Having not been entirely happy with the results, he returned in 1972 so that a more comprehensive rebuild of the straight-six could be carried out. Cawley moved to Hertfordshire in 1975 and got to know marque specialist Bill McGrath. When Cawley later retired, he went to work for McGrath part-time, and in return Bill stored the 3500GT Vignale Spyder free of charge. Having not had much use out of the car in the later years of his ownership, Cawley eventually decided to sell it in 2000 to Patrick Martin, who he knew as a customer of McGrath. Martin had it mechanically recommissioned and in 2004 used it for the Maserati 90th anniversary celebrations in Italy. The following year, he sold the car to Edwin Faulkner, who commissioned a bodywork restoration by Jim Henshaw, during which it was resprayed in the Maserati shade of Avorio. A retrim was also carried out. Faulkner kept the Vignale Spyder on the Isle of Man and, as part of the registration process there, had to replace the original kilometres-per-hour speedometer with a miles-per-hour version. He sold it in 2010 to a UK-based owner who had it returned to its original colour of Acciaio Brunito by respected restoration firm Moto Technique. Three years later it passed to another UK enthusiast, and in 2014 it was used on the Maserati Club Scottish Tour as well as the Goodwood Road Racing Club’s Corsica and Sardinia Tour. The Maserati was displayed at concours events and was runner-up in the Club Trophy at the 2016 Concours of Elegance at Windsor Castle. It was also part of the Earls Court display at the 2014 Goodwood Revival, and was first in class and overall winner at the 2016 Maserati Club Concours. Now being offered for sale at The Classic Motor Hub in exceptional condition, this well-known and supremely stylish Maserati 3500GT Vignale Spyder has been maintained with no expense spared in recent years. In February 2022, its gearbox and steering box were rebuilt by McGrath and it benefits from electric power-steering. It also comes with a consignment of spares that includes five road wheels, a pair of front brake discs and a steering column, plus an original copy of the driver’s manual. 1961 Maserati 3500GT Vignale Spyder The Classic Motor Hub If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 4
This 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet is finished in Midnight Blue Metallic and has been under the care of just 3 owners from new. Showing 154,411 km, this car has been kept in outstanding overall condition and is equipped with a number of desirable options. Produced in October of 1990 as a German market car, this car was delivered to its first owner on December 12th 1990. The dark Midnight Blue Metallic paint is paired with a special order dark blue fabric soft top, which remains in exceptional shape and even has a crystal clear plastic rear window- a rarity in cars of this era. With many 964s receiving countless modifications over the past 30 years, this car on its original Design 90 wheels is a refreshing view of what an original 964 would have looked like in period. The interior of the car is wrapped in Fashion Gray with leather covering the seats, shift boot, and lower door cards. The interior is in remarkable condition, and in this example, the front seats are fitted with power adjustment and seat heating. Although the exterior of the car is largely original, a few modifications have been carried out inside the car to improve the experience- the standard 4-spoke steering wheel has been swapped out for one of the most common Porsche upgrades, a Momo Prototipo. Additionally, the stereo has been changed out for a modern Blaupunkt Bremen head unit, which looks period correct but gives the 964 Bluetooth and MP3 capabilities. Sitting behind the passengers is a 3.6 liter naturally aspirated flat 6, rated at 247 horsepower and 228 lb-ft of torque. Although that doesn’t sound like much in modern terms, it was enough to propel the 964 from 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds and on to a top speed in excess of 160 mph. This is then run through a 5-speed manual transaxle with power sent to all four wheels. This was the first Porsche outside of the 959 hypercar to be fitted with all-wheel drive, which made the car exceptionally surefooted in any weather but still gave a classic sports car experience thanks to the 31/69 front/rear power split. One of the largest changes on the 964 was the introduction of coil springs instead of the torsion bars that were fitted to all previous 911s. Using MacPherson struts up front and semi-trailing arms in the rear, the 964 offered more tunability and far more predictable handling at the limit. With its classic looks and driving experience, paired with some modern refinement, it is no surprise that the 964 has become one of the most sought-after 911s in the collector car world. This example presents in outstanding condition and would be a perfect companion for top down summer enjoyment, but would be just as at home on a trip up to the mountains to go skiing. 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 ISSIMI, Inc If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
