- 1992-alfa-romeo-spider
The spiders of the 105 and 115 series are the longest produced models in Alfa Romeo’s history. When the spider was introduced in spring 1966, it received mixed reviews. Most of the hard core Alfisti would have wished for a different successor for the slightly baroque looking Giulia spider. The sporty cabriolet nevertheless turned out to be a great success (thanks in no small part to a certain graduate, Mr. Dustin Hofmann) and little changed in its shape until 1993. The example offered in Verde English stems from the 4th and last series and was handed over to its lucky first owner on the 2nd of June 1992. After most probably three changes of ownership in 2003, 2016 and 2021, the spider was taken over by its last keeper in August 2022. He provided the cabriolet with a cosmetic refreshment in 2024 and had a new soft top and new seat covers in beige leather with Alcantara centres installed. In September of the same year, a service including a change of the oil filter and new spark plugs was completed. With now 91’400 kilometres driven and a full service booklet (the cambelt had been replaced at 73’391 kilometres) the sporty little cabriolet is in very good and lovingly maintained condition and will be handed to the next enthusiast with the last MOT from August 2022. 1992 Alfa Romeo Spider Oldtimer Galerie International GmbH If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1988 Aston Martin V8 Volante
This Volante was originally specified in left hand drive V585 EFI specification destined for Switzerland and completed on 7th November 1986, finished in Jubilee Silver with dark blue hides. Upon completion the car was used by the factory for press photography displaying the factory registration ‘AML 1’ and was almost immediately converted to right hand drive UK specification in the service department at Newport Pagnell in 1987 as documented on the works record Retained on file is a copy of the original sales invoice from Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd to Aston Martin Sales Ltd on 11th January 1988 ‘Aston Martin V8 Volante Automatic Convertible, finished in Jubilee Silver with Dark Blue leather, Dark Blue Hood and set of fitted luggage, ex Works price £68,227’ The original Warranty card on file was issued to first owner Mr Robert Cooper of Cooper Metal Holdings, Swindon, on 26nd February 1988 with registration E612 KYH. Mr Cooper was a well known and loyal Aston Martin client and has enjoyed numerous new Aston Martin motorcars for over forty years. The Volante remained with Mr Cooper until it was replaced in 1989 by his brand new V8 Vantage Volante ‘Ecurie Ecosse’, the last of three special order examples built following a bespoke request from the McCaig brothers who owned the Ecurie Ecosse racing team Due to a surge of interest in the final series of 580X V8 Vantage and Volante models in the late eighties, new cars and the even rarer ‘Prince Of Wales’ specification cars were difficult to obtain and Aston Martin main agents such as Stratton and Chapman Spooner offered their clients the chance to upgrade their existing cars, hence a number of 580X Vantage Volante’s had their flairs removed and were rebuilt with ‘PoW’ coachwork During a recent conversation Roger Bennington, MD of Stratton Motor Co recalls they converted a number of Volante’s like this in period and the cost conversion was cGBP 25,000 which was a substantial amount in proportion to the values at the time In addition to the ‘PoW’ upgrades available from the aforementioned dealers a handful of Volante’s were also upgraded with 580X Vantage Volante bodywork which was also a complex and extremely costly upgrade with new panels supplied by the factory Our Volante was sold via Straight Eight in 1989 and over the winter of that year and was the subject of a comprehensive upgrade programme to latest 580X Vantage Volante cosmetic specification, refinished in Salisbury Blue and understood to have been one of a handful of cars upgraded in the period at the request of main agents Chapman Spooner by highly respected Aston Martin specialist Lincoln Scott The Volante was sold to Mr Murphy of Cossington, Leicestershire and was serviced by Chapman Spooner on March 7th 1990 at 2700 miles, again on March 11th 1991 at 5186 miles and then AML Ltd on 15th May 1992 at 9329 miles at which time it was briefly registered ‘1 AM’ as stated on the MoT certificate February 1991-1992 The next owner was Mr Paul Southgate of Essex between 1994-98 where it joined his private collection sharing garage space with a Lamborghini Countach and Espada. Throughout Mr Southgate’s ownership the Aston was serviced by Aston Martin Sevenoaks on 6th January 1994 at 11,612 miles and was later sent to Aston Martin exponents RS Williams on 6th March 1996 for full mechanical conversion from electronic fuel injection to carburettors setup (whilst retaining its original matching numbers engine and gearbox) and fitted with the latest RSW handling pack and Brembo big brake conversion, the cost of which today would exceed GBP 25,000 The Volante was later serviced by Carrera Sport of Haywards Heath on 14th July 1998 at 18,610 miles and sold to the previous owner in October of that year via Aston specialist dealer Byron International in October 1998 with mileage at 19,000 miles The Volante would remain with its former keeper for the next twenty five years covering just 9700 miles during their ownership and totalling 28,781 miles by October 2023. During their tenure the Volante benefitted from a chassis restoration and maintenance by marque expert John Etheridge and Nicholas Mee. The car was professionally stored from August 2002 to October 2023 in a temperature controlled environment, regularly started and MoT tested every year until its sale on 27th October 2023 Over the past twelve months the Volante has been the subject of extensive recommissioning programme at a cost in excess of GBP 50,000 with marque specialists Quantum Works and R.S.Williams with supporting photos and invoices. An inspection of the car in the workshop in October 2023 revealed it had excellent structural condition, excellent original interior/carpets/hood, excellent bodywork and a very healthy engine, a testament to the excellent conditions at Tigastore but in need of a full recommission following a long period of stoarge The engine was subsequently removed, water pump/ancillaries rebuilt, engine bay and engine fully repainted and detailed with all relevant ancillaries replated, carburettor fuel system rebuild and tune, gearbox rebuild with quick shift kit, air conditioning rebuild with new hoses, new alloy radiator, new oil cooler, uprated ignition, RSW big bore exhaust system, Nardi steering wheel, new Michelin Pilot Sport tires, original Ronal wheels refurbished, RSW wheel spacer kit, new wishbone and differential bushes with geometry setup, full brake rebuild with new servos etc, Blaupunkt DAB radio to name but a few items! Supplied with the original service book, every MoT certificate from new warranting the low 31,500 original miles, extensive service history and original Tanne and Krolle fitted luggage, this superb Volante is now ready for immediate enjoyment and both presents and drives extremely well 1988 Aston Martin V8 Volante Dylan Miles Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster 1
History of the Iconic 300 SL Roadster The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL roadster was among the most exotic offerings when it was first released. Rare and desirable, these traits have allowed it to remain at the top of premier collector and expert lists as one of the most important and iconic vehicles ever constructed. The 300 SL Gullwing and Roadster were each unique milestones of engineering and design excellence when first released in 1954 with the roadster following just three years later. Delivered with production fuel-injection (first of its kind), and achieving the world's fastest top speed, the 300 SL (S-Sport, L-Light) confirmed Max Hoffman’s challenge to Mercedes-Benz engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut – to build a Gran-Prix car tailored for road use. Despite the impressive cost when new, demand for the gullwing was high, yet when it came to the growing US market, the roadster became a critical part of the legendary presence these cars would establish. Far more than a topless gullwing, the roadster was an entirely unique offering, sharing very few components with the gullwing while vastly improving on the shortcomings of the earlier design. The roadster was fortified with additional structural frame members and the side structure improved with traditionally hinged doors and larger openings. Further structural improvements resulted in greater torsional rigidity and better handling via single-pivot swing-axle rear suspension, improving the former gullwing bump oversteer. Other improvements included roll-up windows, increased horsepower, softer coil springs, and vastly improved larger drum brakes. These improvements made for a much more enjoyable road car without compromising the sporting nature of the race-bred original. History of this 300 SL Roadster Although any 300 SL is a rare car today, it has become increasingly difficult to find documented original low mile examples. Although a total of 1,858 roadsters were built from 1957-1963, a mere 249 roadsters were constructed 1960. This 1960 300 SL roadster is one of just a few surviving examples that has been carefully preserved while sensitively preparing a very handsome balance of originality and artful refinishing. The car has been documented with a Mercedes-Benz Classic Certificate confirming the factory stampings and number plates on the car today. Originally delivered in Fire Brigade Red with black leather interior, the car was optioned from the factory with the following features, also confirmed by the Certificate. Folding black fabric top Hardtop finished in black Cover plate US Version Rear axle ratio 3,89 Becker radio set, Mexico White wall tires After delivery to North America on April 1, 1960, the car gradually accumulated consecutive miles with written documentation beginning at 10,950 miles, January 22, 1963, as recorded in a pocket-sized booklet containing numerous handwritten mileage and date notations. By the mid 1970s, this 300 SL roadster had accumulated 25,716 miles as noted in the last entry of the booklet. By the 1990s, the car had arrived at 300 SL restoration and preservation experts Hatch and Sons, Wayland, MA. Well respected in the 300 SL community, Hatch and Sons’ expertise has focused on originality and preservation. Much of these preservation efforts were carefully applied to this car in the late 1990s when the car retained both the original paint and original interior. The original interior was carefully removed, and the original leather selectively redyed with two coats of black dye while the original carpets were replaced with a correct new set for the cabin. The original trunk compartment carpet was retained along with the headliner lining the original removable hardtop. During the careful preservation-based restoration, with the original interior removed, the exterior of the body was stripped to bare metal, a minor area in the front of the car repaired, the surfaces prepped and primed, and painted in the correct shade of red. All chrome was redone, the fuel tank restored, the engine was freshened, and new fuel hoses, new filters, and new shock absorbers were installed. In April 2002, Hatch and Sons sold the car to the next owner. A former Massachusetts state title issued in 2002 indicates actual miles at 27,244. In 2006, RPM, Vermont, performed a comprehensive 100+ hour mechanical service including removing the engine, removing the crankshaft, and inspecting it for wear. The crank was measured and inspected and found to be in good order, and reinstalled. The transmission and engine were resealed, the fuel injection rebuilt including the injector pump, along with a new diaphragm and a new plunger, and all injectors were rebuilt. The clutch, pressure plate, and release bearing were replaced, the radiator was re-cored, and the starter, generator, and water pump were mechanically and cosmetically overhauled. After completion, the engine was tested, valves adjusted, and the engine compartment was comprehensively detailed with cosmetic freshening including new decals and attention to wiring, hose clamps, and other ancillary items. Numerous service and restoration records on file span 1999-2010 under prior ownership. The current owner purchased the car in 2015 from Fantasy Junction and has since enjoyed it as part of a private collection of vintage sports cars with service needs managed primarily by an in-house mechanic. The odometer indicates 31,456 miles and is believed to be original to the car. Condition and Features Today this rare and beautiful matching numbers 300 SL roadster presents as a very handsome sensitively preserved example featuring the original interior, numerous original details, and responsive mechanical continuity. Importantly, this car is an excellent example of true restorative arts. The term “restored” applies here to identify original features that were retained and freshened not replaced. Rather than replace original components and lose the critical history of a low mile vehicle, this car retains all the original features, mechanical details, and matching engine and transmission, all of which have been preserved and restored, not replaced. The preservation efforts were performed with a great deal of care focused on maintaining original finishes consistent with factory quality and fitment. The gleaming red finish remains glossy and smooth with attractive presentation throughout. The doors, hood, and trunk gaps are factory correct with a distinct original sound opening and shutting with notable German precision. The hood and trunk open and shut easily with excellent part lines. The exterior emblems and lenses are in excellent condition including the H4 headlights. The chrome is in excellent condition with the front bumper showing light surface haze and some aging on the top corner surfaces. The painted wheels and wheel covers are beautifully finished with matching red wheel covers contrasting the sporty black-wall tires. The low fender line, sculpted speed blisters, and race-inspired side vents deliver a powerful presence to the low-profile design. The interior has a very handsome and settled presence which speaks well of the longevity of the original finishes and quality of the selectively restored areas during the restoration. The beautifully contoured leather seats retain the original and distinctive Mercedes-Benz perforated seat insert material. The seats have a softly aged and settled presence to them, still firm in support, but welcomingly contoured through gentle use. The leather surfaces offer a pleasing contrast to the often-overdone replacement-focused restorations seen in many cars today. The black canvas top smoothly disappears into the hinged rear deck and latches into the windshield header with tight closure including a clear, taut rear window. The dashboard is beautifully presented with vivid instruments, excellent numeric indication, clear lenses, and finely maintained details including the original and unique center gauge cluster. The various detailed interior switches, levers, and knobs are in harmony with the light ivory steering wheel which matches the gear shift knob and horn center emblem. Further captivating details include the original Becker Mexico radio, rear speakers, and the delicate (often lost or incorrectly replaced) original ivory turn signal paddle. Even the original black leather dash pad has been thoughtfully preserved. Inside the trunk, the condition is consistent with the themes of originality with original carpets, correct details, and original trunk finishes. Overall, this car presents as a lovingly and professionally preserved example sensitively refined under dedicated ownership. Under the hood, the correctly finished fuel-injected 300 SL engine delivers a presentation worthy of the iconic artistic and mechanical excellence. The engine compartment is clean and well-presented reflective of the quality of the restoration performed some years ago. Finishes are correct but not overly prepared, rather just right for the blend of originality and preservation. During the restoration, the fuel injection was rebuilt, and all ancillary engine features were restored. Correct finishes, proper fittings, and attention to detail is evident throughout the engine compartment, with numbers matching the Mercedes-Benz Classic Certificate. The correct air cleaner housing and fittings are in place along with correct engine decals, some of which have lightly aged through use. The car starts on command and gently idles under proper warm up procedure. The engine is well tuned, and the gearbox engages easily in all gears offering smooth shifts and a properly sprung clutch. Suspension is quite pleasant on the highway with light steering, enjoyable passing power, and symmetrical braking with an even pedal when coming down from highway speeds. The chassis and underbody components are in very good condition with no significant issues and no visible signs of structural compromise. The integrity of the underside is consistent with the original features of this car in which time and modest miles have gently aged the original finishes over the past 64 years. The car is accompanied by a set of tools in a tool roll, owner’s manual set with tan plastic case, two sets of keys, the Mercedes-Benz Classic Certificate of Authenticity, and the original handwritten booklet documenting the early years of mileage. One of the most exotic cars available when new, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster was a performance leader in all respects, brimming with innovative features, many of which would become hallmarks of modern engineering. Today these fast, beautiful, and exclusive cars continue to appeal to collectors and enthusiasts for their inherent beauty, exceptional build quality, and ease of use especially when it comes to vintage road events. But perhaps the most compelling feature of this 300 SL Roadster is the combined preservation, low miles, and very few owners. Cars of this provenance are not only rare, they are impossible to recreate. AND, AS MANY COLLECTORS ARE REALIZING THIS, THE MARKET HAS BECOME MORE COMPETITIVE ESPECIALLY WITH YOUNGER GENERATIONS SEEKING THE VERY BEST EXAMPLES. This authentic, sensitively preserved, and thoughtfully freshened, numbers matching 300 SL Roadster is ready for enjoyable driving, premier vintage road tours, or weekend travel, combining all the promises of superb luxury sport motoring with vintage elegance. 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster Fantasy Junction If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright History of the Iconic 300 SL Roadster The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL roadster was among the most exotic offerings when it was first released. This particular example, Chassis WP0AB2968LS451994, is one such Carrera 4 Coupe that was purchased by its first owner from Don Rosen Imports in Conshohocken, PA. It was later purchased by its second and current owner in 1997 as a certified pre-owned vehicle from the same dealership where it was originally sold. The car sits on 16” Design 90 wheels and is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic paint, a $952 option, over a contrasting Slate Gray leather interior, which itself was a $2,182 option. Further options include a leather instrument housing, velour-like trunk carpet, heated sport seats, headlight washers, a rear wiper, painted trim rings, and a rear foglight. With over $7,800 in options, the total MSRP of this Porsche came out to $77,369 in 1990, or the equivalent of $188,048 in 2025 dollars. Over its thirty-plus years of ownership, this German classic was meticulously maintained to the highest degree, with service receipts and booklet stamps dating back to new. While this Porsche was serviced by several shops throughout its lifetime, the ones who saw it most frequently were Don Rosen Imports in Conshohocken, PA, Westtown Imported Cars in West Chester, PA, Porsche of The Main Line in Newtown Square, PA, and Performance Automotive Inc. in Malvern, PA. The only modifications on this car are the R-134 AC conversion that was completed in 2010, the original H1 headlights and fog lights being replaced with Euro-spec H4 lights in 2019 (original units included), and the original head unit being replaced with a modern Alpine unit in 2022. Lastly, Dynamat insulation has also been added to the floors for improved HVAC retention and sound deadening. On June 12, 2013, Performance Automotive Inc. performed an engine-out resealing service and a comprehensive replacement or service of all accessible components at 88,343 miles. The cam chain boxes, power steering drive, breather plate, and valve covers were resealed, and the valves were adjusted. The power steering hoses, thermostat oil hoses, crankcase oil hoses, steering rack boots, sunroof seal, and underhood sound pad were also replaced. Other miscellaneous service items of note include a new reverse light switch and a repair of the interior lights. All of these together racked up a bill of $10,875 but left the 911 running like new and addressed one of the most prominent service items you want to see with any Porsche. More recently, in preparation for sale, Performance Automotive Inc. replaced numerous key powertrain and suspension components, including the drive belts, front and rear brake hoses, front tie rod and sway bar boots, oil breather tank upper hose, left lower valve cover gasket, rear wiper arm, front and rear wiper blades, engine deck lid air struts, OEM under-engine pan, and the battery. At the same time, the front bumper cover was also repainted. The only real blemish to this vehicles history pertains to an incident in 2016. When a large truck impacted the drivers side rear quarter at less than 5 mph. The repair was entrusted to Brandywine Coach Works and was remedied with no expense spared. As such, the vehicle is not original paint. As it sits, this 1990 Porsche 911 shows around 110,000 miles on the odometer, but you wouldn’t know it from looking at it or driving it. Coming from long-term fanatical ownership, this 911 has not only been well-loved but, most importantly, well-maintained without regard for cost. The over 90 pages of maintenance records on file show that no expense was spared in keeping this Porsche on the road, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone to know that it currently has no outstanding service issues. Upon purchase, the new owner will receive all of the original books/manuals, the original tool kit and jack, the original tire inflator pump kit, the original wheel locks with two keys, two original ignition keys, two aftermarket spare keys, one plastic “credit card” key, and two car covers. In addition to a variety of spares, accessories and detailed service history file. 1990 Porsche Carrera 4 LBI Limited If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort
If you were an impressionable teenager in the 1980s, you had one of three supercars on your wall: the Lamborghini Countach, the Ferrari F40 or the Porsche 959. Gamechanger is an apt way to describe the latter – a Teutonic technological tour de force born of Porsche’s desire to go racing in the then-burgeoning Group B category. Ground-breaking innovations including variable torque bias, sequential turbochargers, ABS brakes, adjustable ride height and onboard tyre pressure monitors helped Porsche to redefine what the word versatile meant in the world of performance motoring. The 959 was a car which produced north of 450HP, nudged 200mph and delivered its mind-bending performance in a manner which made you feel like you were spinning the earth backwards. Even by the standards of today’s supercars, a spirited drive in a 959 alters your perception of speed. Yet its miraculous Jekyll and Hyde character meant unlike Porsche’s contemporaries, this was as comfortable and genuinely refined as a Mercedes-Benz saloon. The 959 is the genuine everyday supercar which pre-dated the cliché. Chassis no. 900086 The Porsche 959 Komfort presented here distinguishes itself as an original unrestored accident-free example that’s enjoyed just two owners and covered a mere 17,500 (documented) kilometres from new. Chassis number 900096 was the only 959 Komfort of the 292 produced delivered new to Austria. Well, technically that’s incorrect, since the original owner paid to collect the car directly from the Porsche factory in October of 1987. It was finished in Polar Silver Metallic over a Dark Grey leather interior and specified with the optional Sport seats, air-conditioning and Blaupunkt radio. The Austrian kept the 959 until 2012, when it was acquired by a German enthusiast building a remarkable collection of high-quality Porsche’s spanning the marque’s entire history. “This is a wonderful and authentic example of Stuttgart’s seminal supercar, worthy of the greatest Porsche collections – just like that it’s resided in for the last 14 years.” As the original service booklet and wealth of accompanying invoices attest, this 959 has always been fastidiously cared for and maintained regardless of cost. In the year from May of 2017 to March of 2018 alone, invoices from Porsche Centre Stuttgart were issued totalling over 90,000 euros. Retaining its original chassis, engine and gearbox, chassis number 900096 presents in exceptional mechanical and cosmetic condition. It’s accompanied by its factory user manuals, warranty and service books, tool roll, tyre compressor and jack sets, and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. This is a wonderful and authentic example of Stuttgart’s seminal supercar, worthy of the greatest Porsche collections – just like that it’s resided in for the last 14 years. 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort Girardo & Co. When Jaguar unveiled the XKE at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, everything changed in the world of sports cars. Breathtaking design, unrivaled performance, and racing lineage made the XKE an immediate sensation. Beautiful and popular, the XKE proved even more spectacular, setting records, and posting victories all over the world. In the same tradition that Jaguar built the original lightweight race cars, recognized experts in period correct XKE craftsmanship and performance enhancements, together with the commissioning owner, spared no expense creating this superb tribute to Jaguars’ legendary XKE Lightweight Coupe. This car was originally commissioned and built to an incredibly high specification for world renowned collector, Paul Michaels, of Hexagon fame. Developed by recognized experts in period correct XKE craftsmanship and performance enhancements, together with the commissioning owner, the team spared no expense creating this superb tribute to Jaguars’ legendary XKE Lightweight Coupe. Beginning with a sound road car, this Series 1 coupe was comprehensively disassembled and reconfigured to full Lightweight standards including extensive modifications to the engine, body, suspension, electronic systems, cooling system, brakes, and interior. The hand-crafted car was completed in the early 2000s to impeccable standards by top fabrication specialists, following closely to factory specifications while using authentic parts. Following final modification, enhancements, and restoration works by Eagle for performance and safety resulted in this beautifully constructed Eagle-Engineered Lightweight Conversion. As might be expected, the construction history surrounding the build is both technically impressive and artfully engaging. Beginning with the body, the structural steel core was retained while a set of custom RS hand-formed alloy body panels (alloy hood, doors, rear arches, and trunk lid) were fitted to the steel structure. A set of lightweight peg-drive Dunlop-type magnesium wheels were fitted, and the engine was comprehensively built by Rob Beere, upgraded to 4.7 Liter specifications. Engine improvements included a big valve cylinder head with Sport cams, Sport lightened and balanced engine components, gas flowed head with matched ports, a gated anti-surge pump, and big-bore tubular exhaust manifolds. The engine was mounted using specially fabricated Sport mounts, a harmonic crankshaft damper, electronic ignition with performance plug leads, and a modern performance electric fuel pump. Cooling was improved using a modern cooling fan, lightweight alloy radiator, brass water tank, and Kevlar reinforced cooling hoses. The 4.7 Liter engine was dyno-tuned returning 307 hp at the rear wheels with more than 300 ft/pounds of torque from 3,200 to 5,200 rpm. An all synchro 5-speed Getrag gearbox was installed along with a 3.07:1 rear end. Brakes and suspension were upgraded as well with a high-powered stainless-steel shielded brake booster, AP front alloy brake calipers with 315mm ventilated rotors with adjustable brake bias. GT torsion bars and springs, GT sway bars and bushings, polyurethane radius arm and arb bushings, Eagle Sport radius arm conversion, and billet aluminum steering rack mounts were also installed. Additional features included Spax adjustable shocks, high output charging system with 75-amp alternator, a lightweight geared starter motor, and halogen headlights. The resultant performance enhancements and build exceeded $100,000.00 at the time of construction. Upon completion, Paul Michaels enjoyed the car, successfully participating in a variety of European tours, covering some 4,687 kms (2,912 miles). Around this time, Mr. Michaels was fortunate to purchase 86 PJ, an exceptional original and genuine factory lightweight, one of just twelve originally built. Michaels then commissioned Eagle, world renowned E-type experts, to carry out a comprehensive sympathetic restoration to the original lightweight and further engaged Eagle to sell this Lightweight Coupe. Eagle, most well known for their ‘Eagle E-Types’, including their own Lightweight inspired ‘Special Editions’, also offer carefully selected previously restored E-types, which can be crafted with unique and exclusive access to a range of Eagle engineering features as well as full Eagle commissions. As is the case with this offering, these cars, such as the example offered here, are uniquely branded as the "Eagle Engineered E-type”. With Michaels’ Eagle presented on exclusive offer, Eagle soon found a new owner in California. The new owner then engaged Eagle to apply their bespoke rear suspension ‘Sport specification’ upgrades to the car and to rebuild the suspension unit at the same time. Concurrent with other upgrades already fitted, the outcome mirrored the specifications of an "Eagle GT", this work was completed on 25 Nov 2004 and numbered as “Eagle-Engineered E-Type”, assigned number 41, and an Eagle GT badge was added to the center console. At this time, a dozen or so of the full, totally in house restored Eagle E-types had been completed and delivered. The Eagle Engineered option was introduced due to lead times for a completed commission running into several years. The car was brought to California, titled, and registered as a 1963 Jaguar for the new owner, who enjoyed the car for two years, driving it frequently. An avid vintage performance car enthusiast, the northern California owner engaged professional Jaguar performance specialists to service and upgrade the car as needed including regular fluids and interval services, including fluid exchanges, brake fluid flush, and seal replacement, a new electronic ignition kit, SU carburetor tuning, ammeter repair, water pump rebuild, various gaskets replaced, cooling system serviced, and various electrical wiring improved. In 2006 The car was then sold through Fantasy Junction to the third post-construction owner, who retained it for 14 years, enjoying it sparingly. In 2022, Fantasy Junction offered the car for sale again. At that time, 4,100 miles were indicated. The second post-build owner then repurchased the car making him both the second and fourth owner of record since the build. Under his ownership in November 2022 with 4,550 miles indicated, experts at American Classics and Performance, Cotati, CA performed approximately $29,000.00 worth of detailed services. Beginning the process, the top end of the engine was disassembled, and the head removed for a professional valve job, during reassembly the cam gears and upper chain tensioner were reinstalled with adjustments made, and the oil and filter changed. A new set of spark plugs was installed, and the engine was cleaned and prepped along with various items refinished as needed before complete reassembly. Additional work included replacing all fuel hoses, carburetor service including new floats, matched needles, tuning and synchronizing the carburetors, installing air/fuel meter, new screens for the velocity stacks, a new brake light switch, new battery, and new cooling hoses. The car also received a new fuel tank with new fuel hoses, the clutch slave and master cylinder were rebuilt, a new set of Avon tires (invoiced at separate cost) were balanced and mounted, and all four wheels were powder coated for increased durability. In late 2023 Fantasy Junction had the opportunity to place this example for a third consecutive time, this time with a seasoned enthusiast on the East Coast. Having owned and vigorously exercised both his original Ford GT40 on the track, and Ferrari 250 SWB on the road, the current and consigning owner recognized just how well this Eagle-Engineered example walked the line between a performance street car and visceral race car. Using it both in organized rally events as well as casual touring, updates and further refinements under his ownership continued with regular fluids changes, the sourcing of stock rear radius arms for a more plush long distance driving stance (included with the sale), polishing of the DOHC valve covers, and the fitment of Crow four point competition harness for both the driver and the passenger. In total, 6,250 miles have been added to the odometer since the 2004 completion on behalf of Mr. Michaels. Today the car presents as a spectacular example combining authentic aspects in tribute to the original Lightweight themes with impressive contemporary upgrades and excellent finishes throughout. The paint was done to a very high standard, with excellent gloss and consistent coverage, now showing just minor evidence of mellowing and enjoyable use. Panel fit and gaps are excellent in all aspects of body construction including the muscular riveted alloy rear fenders, smooth alloy nose, and alloy doors. With the front and rear bumpers removed, the body design is even more elegant and purposeful as a competition statement. The lighting, lenses, and windshield are in excellent condition including the leather bonnet latches, one of many handsome vintage touches. The recently refinished magnesium wheels and new Avon tires add to the authentic stance and presence. The exposed rivet construction, outside alloy filler cap, and smoothed front/rear finishes all contribute to the competition presence of this Eagle-Engineered Lightweight Conversion. The interior of the car is as carefully thought out and as nicely detailed as the exterior. Opening the lightweight aluminum doors, the competition inspired interior is comfortable, not sparse, conveying the perfect balance of racing and road-going excellence. The seats are wrapped in supple green leather accompanied by 5-point seat harnesses, a leather wrapped central tunnel, black low-pile carpeting, and a stock XKE dashboard trimmed with green and black accents completes the interior finishes. Modest use is evident in the interior mostly to the driver’s side seat bolster which shows some wear from entry and exit. The wood steering wheel is slightly larger in diameter to allow improved rigidity under more spirited driving. The 5-speed Getrag gearbox is topped with an alloy shift knob and traditionally fitted with a matching green leather boot. A roll bar is installed, green headliner affixed to the inner roof panel and rear hatch, a modern fire system is in place, and a matching Dunlop type spare tire is located under the rear hatch panel. The interior exhibits a nice blend of vintage competition Jaguars, with just enough comfort to enjoy driving without the harshness of typical competition cars. Lifting the lightweight aluminum hood, the engine and engine bay reveals the 4.7 Liter engine with details prepared in homage to the original. Though recently freshened with a valve job and other engine refinements, the engine retains a unified patina consistent with competition cars including heat toned header exhaust and buff aluminum finishes. Here too upgraded features have been thoughtfully installed for reliable use. Conceived and built with combined road and rally/touring use in mind, the engine systems are all easily accessed and modern upgrades including electronic ignition, electric fuel pump, modern alternator, and cooling enhancements (alloy radiator and electric fan) have proven to be appropriately specified. Further features include recently tuned triple SU carburetors, traditional Lucas Engineering branded features, new fuel and cooling hoses, and a new battery. The underside of the car is very clean, nicely sorted, and appropriately finished reflective of the miles and use reported since the build was completed. The car starts and drives very well. The 4.7 Liter engine is very strong with very quick throttle response and yet still usable for general driving, tours, or light duty track days. The 5-speed gearbox is a full synchro Getrag unit which operates smoothly and allows for 80+ mph in overdrive 5th gear while the straight-six calms hums at only 2400 rpm. The brakes and steering are very well dialed in and the 3.07:1 rear end is suitable for highway use. In all, the driving experience is both invigorating and delightful, feeling very much like a competition car, in looks and heritage, but delivering a satisfying road manner that a capable driver can enjoy with confidence. The car is accompanied by numerous copies of build documentation, copies of invoices for recent services, Eagle-Engineering specifications sheets, dyno sheet, magazine articles, a series of photographs showing the build including body work and engine build, a car cover, a reprinted owner's manual, and a set of tools in a tool roll. For anyone seeking an exciting competition inspired car with vintage presence, this Jaguar XKE Eagle-Engineered Lightweight Conversion offers a unique design coupled with wonderful driving manners and superb performance that is sure to please any Jaguar performance enthusiast. 1963 Jaguar XKE Eagle-Engineered Lightweight Conversion 4.7 Fantasy Junction If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1982 Lotus Esprit S3
Very well-presented, fully restored early-S3 Esprit in Lotus’ iconic JPS colours, reportedly painted by the factory in-period. The Esprit S3 was officially unveiled at the British International Motor Show at the NEC Birmingham in October 1981 and, like its predecessors, it was designed by the legendary automotive engineer Giorgetto Giugiaro as an early example of his polygonal 'folded paper' designs. The Esprit S3 gained popularity for its distinctive wedge-shaped body and advanced engineering, captivating enthusiasts worldwide. As an evolution of its predecessors, the Esprit S3 solidified Lotus' position as a pioneer in the realm of lightweight, high-performance sports cars. Despite the styling remaining relatively similar to the previous generation S2 Esprit, the S3 saw a host of upgrades and benefits. Mechanically, it featured a more powerful (Type 912) 2.2-litre inline four-cylinder engine offering 160bhp mated to a 5-speed gearbox and, weighing just 1,000kg, the performance was spritely, with 0-60mph taking just 6.7 seconds. Cosmetically the S3 received redesigned front and rear bumpers, side-skirts and front spoiler, with the interior revised to provide more headroom and additional space in the footwells. This handsome early S3 was purchased by our vendor in August 2021 on 91,000 miles, and came with a quintessentially 'Lotus' story on how it was painted in JPS colours. Having managed to trace back the car's lineage, our vendor found himself speaking with the son of the original owner of the car, who told the story of how his father took delivery of XRE 383X, a brand-new Jupiter Red S3. Within six months of ownership, he became so fed up with the car breaking down that it was sent back to Lotus to fully disassemble and re-assemble to iron out any issues, and reportedly, as a goodwill gesture, the factory also resprayed it in the JPS colours the car wears today at the owner’s request. However, upon taking delivery of their freshly rebuilt and repainted car, it continued to break down in the following three months to the extent that the AA recovered the car back to Lotus who provided a full refund. Shortly after our vendors purchase, a restoration was undertaken to return the car to its former glory having been believed to be lost/stored in a garage for 18-years. The restoration process was extensive with a full respray including the engine bay, door shuts and wheels by AD Panelcraft in Milton Keynes. The interior was stripped, with the leather either retrimmed or restored, and a new carpet set in the correct Blenheim Champagne colour was added, as well as a new gear knob and headlining. The gauges were taken out and restored in addition to a new heater surround and matrix due to corrosion spots. Mechanically, the car is in lovely condition with the main components having been addressed. A new clutch and cambelt were installed ensuring improved performance and reliability. The engine received a thorough service and freshen-up, bringing it back to its optimal condition including a new SU fuel pump. The car sits on AVO front and rear adjustable dampers with standard front callipers and a VW rear calliper conversion with new cables by PNM Motorsport as the handbrake mechanism wasn’t working. Bushes and ball joints have been replaced as required to ensure the whole driving experience is as flawless as its overall appearance. Presented to market in the wonderfully iconic JPS black and gold colours, complemented by the refreshed champagne leather interior and very attractively-guided, this Esprit is surely a worthy addition to any collection or perhaps just drive and enjoy it. 1982 Lotus Esprit S3 Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1970-porsche-914-6
The Porsche 914-6, launched in 1970, was a bold departure from Porsche tradition. It was a mid-engine sports car developed in collaboration with Volkswagen. While the base 914 models had less power, this 914-6 Roadster packed a 2.7RS flat-six engine from the 911, turning this lightweight chassis into a true performance machine! With it's sharp handling and low center of gravity, it became a formidable competitor in motorsport. This example is signed by Jürgen Barth, a racing driver and Porsche engineer who helped bring glory to many overlooked models. Barth had a deep technical understanding of Porsche machinery and played a key role in developing and driving various competition cars. He drove a 914-6 GT in endurance racing.Though the 914-6 was produced in limited numbers and often underestimated, drivers like Barth helped create its legacy as a true driver's car and a worthy place in Porsche history. - 1951-abarth-simca-8-sport-cabriolet-by-stabilimenti-farina
Students of the coachbuilt automobile know that a design, if it was a good one, was frequently adapted by an enterprising carrozzeria to fit a range of chassis. So it was with this post-war cabriolet style by Stabilimenti Farina. With a very pretty, very modern, “envelope” body expertly rendered in a mix of steel and aluminum, the basic impression was quite like that of the award-winning Cisitalia 202—created, of course, by Giovanni Carlo Farina’s brother Battista, founder of Pininfarina. Underpinnings from Siata to Ferrari served as blank canvases for versions of this Stabilimenti Farina offering, but none are more interesting than the Abarth-Simca 8 Sport Cabriolet offered here. A unique creation in many respects, this 8 Sport Cabriolet was made specifically for Roger Barlow. A colorful, California-based sportsman, author, and racer, Barlow was the proprietor of Hollywood’s International Motors sports car dealership, which counted Bing Crosby and Clark Gable among its clientele. He was also a great champion of France’s Simca brand in the United States and abroad, but while Barlow’s three race-prepped “little blue Simcas” challenged all comers on the circuit—often successfully—he needed something a little more comfortable for off-track transportation. A Simca 8 (effectively a French-built Fiat 1100) chassis served as the starting point, though the humble 1,221-cubic-centimeter engine would hardly be suitable for a racing driver…and an American one at that. Legendary Italian tuning firm Abarth supplied a modified head and an exhaust, but it was a S.Co.T (Supercharger Company of Turin) blower, paired with a substantial Weber carburetor, that really upped the ante, increasing output to an estimated 90-100 horsepower. Stabilimenti Farina’s bodywork was equally unique, incorporating special aluminum bumpers, a trio of Cisitalia-esque vents on each fender, and a functional hood scoop like that on the Farina-bodied Ferrari 166 Inter Cabriolet. “Extra Lusso” badging emphasized this car’s nature as a comfortable, if spirited, luxury tourer, rather than a bare-bones racer. Barlow would retain his coachbuilt cabriolet until his death in 1990, after which it was stored by his daughter in Connecticut. Restored in the mid-2010s with a two-tone finish over a red interior, the car was acquired by Sam and Emily Mann in 2015, and soon benefitted from a repaint in its present dark blue. Mr. Mann notes that this cabriolet is “fast and pleasant to drive,” with four-wheel hydraulic brakes and independent front suspension affording a degree of confidence on spirited jaunts. With French underpinnings courtesy of Simca, and delightful bodywork and a punchy little engine via Italy’s Stabilimenti Farina and Abarth, this truly is a fascinating car built for a fascinating character. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright Students of the coachbuilt automobile know that a design, if it was a good one, was frequently adapted by an enterprising carrozzeria to fit a range of chassis.
