- 1959 Ferrari 250 GT
By the early 1960s, road car production had ceased to be a sideline for Ferrari and was seen as vitally important to the company's future stability. Thus the 250, Ferrari's first volume-produced model, can be seen as critically important, though production of the first of the line - the 250 Europa, built from 1953 to '54 - amounted to fewer than 20. Before the advent of the Europa, Ferrari had built road-going coupés and convertibles in small numbers, usually to special customer order using a sports-racing chassis as the basis. Ghia and Vignale of Turin and Touring of Milan were responsible for bodying many of these but there was no attempt at standardisation for series production and no two cars were alike. The introduction of the 250 Europa heralded a significant change in Ferrari's preferred coachbuilder; whereas previously Vignale had been the most popular carrozzeria among Maranello's customers, from now on Pinin Farina (later 'Pininfarina') would be Ferrari's number one choice, bodying no fewer than 48 out of the 53 Europa/Europa GTs built. Pinin Farina's experiments eventually crystallised in a new Ferrari 250 GT road car that was first displayed publicly at the Geneva Salon in March 1956. However, the Torinese carrozzeria was not yet in a position to cope with the increased workload, resulting in production being entrusted to Carrozzeria Boano after Pinin Farina had completed a handful of prototypes. True series production began with the arrival of Pininfarina's 'notch back' Coupé on the 250 GT chassis, some 353 of which were built between 1958 and 1960 within the sequence '0841' to '2081'. However, the relatively small scale of production meant that cars could still be ordered with subtle variations according to customer choice, as well as enabling a handful of show cars and 'specials' to be constructed on the 250 GT chassis. A number of important developments occurred during 250 GT production: the original Colombo-designed 128C 3.0-litre engine being superseded by the twin-distributor 128D, which in turn was supplanted in 1960 by the outside-plug 128F engine which did away with its predecessor's Siamesed inlets in favour of six separate ports. On the chassis side, four-wheel disc brakes arrived late in 1959 and a four-speeds-plus-overdrive gearbox the following year, the former at last providing the 250 GT with stopping power to match its speed. More refined and practical than any previous road-going Ferrari, yet retaining the sporting heritage of its predecessors, the 250 GT is a landmark model of immense historical significance. Our car, #1629GT, is a Series 2 produced on December 15, 1959 in an elegant "Nero Tropicale" livery with a "Verde" interior and benefits from the latest evolutions of the type (disc brakes, 128F engine and overdrive). Its first owner was none other than Piero Portaluppi, a great architect of the Italian art deco and rationalist movement to whom we owe many achievements such as the famous Villa Necchi Campiglio in Milan. Our Ferrari 250GT left the Europe for the United States where it remained until its return to the Netherlands in 1982. After a first owner completes a thorough restoration of the car in the expert hands of the great Ferrari specialist Piet Roelofs., it was soon bought by the secretary of the Dutch Ferrari Owners Club. Mr Kraak! It is during this restoration that the choice of the current color is made. We find our Ferrari in various rallies and competitions during all this period. In 2002 #1629GT enters on the French soil and passes between the hands of several collectors, before leaving for Greece a few years. It is “Michele” di Parigi, a great Ferrari connoisseur who will acquire our 250GT on behalf of its current owner in late 2010. Over the years its owner has undertaken regular maintenance and restoration work at Garage Super Sport to keep the car in perfect condition. Fine engine builder Gilbert Tissier has undertaken a total rebuild of the engine for a final result that delighted us during our road tests. The behavior of the car, the flexibility and the melody of the engine are an invitation to travel. An important file of invoices and documents from the period accompanies the car. In this elegant navy blue dress, #1629GT is probably one of the most desirable Ferrari 250GT on the market. 1959 Ferrari 250 GT Historic Cars If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO
1 of the Most Documented 288 GTO's on the Planet. 2-Red Book Classiche's One of the Worlds Best 288 GTO Examples 2-Registered Owners 1 of the most documented 288's on the planet Paperwork back to new 2- Red Book Classiche's One of 2 288's Certified at the Factory Copy of Original Sales Contract from Charles Pozzi Copy of Original PDI Copies of service records back to 1986 Full Major service in 2023 at the Factory in Modena The 288 was born out of a vision to go FIA “Group B” racing. The 308 GTB was the basis for the 288. With Ferrari being under the Fiat umbrella during this time, Enzo was disappointed with the products that were coming out of Ferrari. Unfortunately the “Group B,” class was canceled in 1987 before the car was completed, but Enzo pressed on anyway. He enlisted the help of some of the engineers from Lanica to help turn the 308 GTB into a Group B racer with no limits. In order to have cars, “homologated,” to go racing, the manufacturer had to produce a certain amount of cars. They produced 272 288 GTO's in total which is the fewest amount of all of the super cars. If it wasn't for the 288 GTO, there wouldn't be an F40 and there wouldn't be an F50. The 288 GTO was priced at $85,000 new. The 2 8 8 GTO is one of the most collectible modern super cars and it bears the, “GTO,” badge. The 288 GTO was born, “GTO” standing for “Grand Turismo Omologato,” which equates to, “Homoligation.” This was the second time in Ferrari's history that the, “GTO” moniker was used. The first being the 250 GTO back in 1962. The 288 was designed to push the engineering envelope. While doing that Enzo had a vision to make the car as light as possible. The 288 was the first Ferrari to incorporate the use of Carbon Kevlar composite body panels. This material was used on the hood and roof. The doors were aluminum and fiberglass was used on the front fascia and rear fascia. They managed to get the weight down to 1,160kg (2,555lbs), about 550lbs lighter than the 308 GTB. The 288 was shortened up, while the wheelbase was lengthened by 8”. The GTO had functional aero on the car with brake cooling scoops in the front and rear, vents to feed the IHI Turbo's and a dovetail spoiler for downforce which is also reminiscent to the 250 GTO rear as well as the 3 vertical vents on the rear quarter panel. The engine was a de-bored version of the 308 Tipo F160-V8, it was debored to 2,855cc's (2.9ltr) and renamed the F114B. The engine had dual overhead camshafts, 4 valves per cylinder, mated with lightweight connecting rods, nickisel coated liners and heads (to reduce friction). Ferrari looked to Japanese turbo manufacturer IHI to engineer the Turbos for this car as they did most of the rally cars. All of this equated to 400hp, 0-60mph in 5 seconds, 0-125mph in 15 seconds and a top speed of 190mph; effectively making this the fastest road going car. The engineers had to turn the engine from being, “horizontally,” mounted to, “longitudinally,” mounted in order to make additional room for the Turbo's. The suspension was planted at each corner with, “Koni” coil overs. While the brakes were Brembo disc brakes. The 288 was a road going race car and one of the most special Ferraris produced. The 288 cemented Ferrari's platform on the world stage as the cars at that time were far from optimal. As much of a race car for the street as they are, they are very amazing and docile to drive on the street. The 2-8-8 is very easy to drive normally, but depress the throttle hard and you feel the twin turbo's spool and plant you back in the Daytona Seats as you row through the 5-speed gated gear lever. Of the 272 288 GTO's produced, we have been involved with about 18 cars that we've had the pleasure of touching. For every one we acquire, we pass on probably 4 of them. Most of these cars were driven and have lots of mileage and have old repairs of damage that we discovered, in some cases the current owners never saw the damage as it was masked fairly well. Many of the cars we have inspected with low mileage have been clocked where odometers were unplugged, odometers replaced and no service history where you cannot corroborate the mileage. I've had the privilege of studying 288's and touching many examples, preparing them for many concours events such as Cavallino. I was invited by Cavallino to speak on a panel about 288 GTO's at the 2024 Cavallino Classic. In my professional opinion approximately 10% of the 272 examples are considered, “Investment Grade,” examples. What I mean by that is, having less than 10k kilometers, having documented service history and not having any negative connotations that accompany the car. Of that subset, about 10% have 5k kilometers or less, and all their original paint. When looking at 288's the rougher the paint, the more authentic the example as they were not a highpoint in paint finish for Ferrari. The 288 GTO is truly the first real Ferrari “Super Car / Halo Car”. These will be the first of the Halo cars to reach $10m, as they made the least amount of the 288 than any other Halo Car; the true “investment-grade” examples will be the first and will always carry a premium over the “non-investment grade” examples. There have been some public sales over the past two year;, we personally looked at two of the examples that made their way to the states and they all had negative issues on them from paintwork, mileage discrepancies, one had fire damage and it was still Classiche Certified. This particular example is a 2 registered -wner example. It was delivered new out of one of the oldest Ferrari dealers, Charles Pozzi. Pozzi was so close to Enzo that he named a famous color after the dealership, “Pozzi Blue”. This car was ordered with factory air-conditioning which is a must have option as well as Black Daytona seats. What this car has that most cars don't, paperwork. When all of the experts are gone, what is left to document a car? Paperwork, and if a car doesn't have it, you will have an uphill battle describing its history. This car has a copy of the original sales contract from Charles Pozzi to the original owner, it has receipts and warranty receipts from Pozzi back in 1986. It has fastidious service history, 100% original paint, factory inspection marks that are still visible and it only has 5,400 kilometers. This is also accompanied by its books which are stamped throughout its service life. This 288 underwent a full major service at the Ferrari Classiche Department in Italy in January 2023; it is in fact the “Only 288” to be certified at the factory. It has 2 Classiche Red Books, the most recent certification being performed at the factory. The second owner whom we acquired the car from was an “Executive Board Member” at Ferrari for 11 years and started, “Ferrari Financial Services”. He confirmed that this 288 GTO is in fact the “ONLY” 288 GTO to be certified by the Factory Classiche Department. This is hands down in the top 1% of 288 GTO examples for the world and is an automatic entry into any world concours event and is a significant piece of Ferrari history. There is not another example that we have seen as authentic as this. 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO GT Motor Cars If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1970 Ferrari 246 GT L Series Dino
Highlights for this car - One of 355 L Series Dinos built from 1969-1970 - Restored in factory ordered Russo Rubino with Nero Interior - Correct Cromodora Knock-Off Wheels, Wood Steering Wheel, and Alloy Body Features General Overview Designed by the legendary Leonardo Fioravanti, responsible for some of the greatest Ferrari designs while at Pininfarina, the original 206 Dino GT was a delightful design combining a curvaceous body and innovative performance engineering inspired by racing successes Ferrari had achieved with their mid-engine prototypes. The heart of the Dino was the compact 65-degree V6 engine displacing 1987cc. With triple Weber 40DCF carburetors, the engine offered 160hp, a potent amount for a lightweight two-liter car. The transverse mid-engine design mated with a 5-speed transaxle offered spirited acceleration, besting many larger displacement competitors. Attributed in name to the tragically lost Dino Ferrari, son of Enzo, the Dino brand would launch Ferrari into higher volume production and world-wide acclaim with this affordable offering. Shortly after release, the 206 advanced to the larger displacement 246 Dino GT as public demand grew and production output increased for the mid-engine car. The 246, stamped in steel using higher volume practices, would become one of the most popular sports cars of the period. Europe and America loved the sleek bodywork and nimble performance, responding with record sales and accolades with sustained popularity lasting more than 50 years after the Dino was first introduced. Early production 246 Dinos are referred to as “L Series” cars, uniquely produced in 1969 and 1970, retaining as much of the original lines and features inspired by the 1965 Paris Salon 206 GT Speciale and Pininfarina 1966 Turin Salon Dino Berlinetta GT. Over the years, L Series examples have become more sought after due to their clean and pure body design, elegant detailing, and production rarity. Distinct L Series features include slimmer front and rear bumpers, an external boot lid release button, triple-ear knock-off wheels, wood-rim steering wheels, head rests mounted on the rear bulkhead, roll up window cranks, no air conditioning, and lightweight alloy doors, hood, and decklids. These features resulted in a lighter car overall with spirited acceleration in keeping with the original 1966 concept Salon Dino. History of this L Series Dino Delivered new to the first owner in Switzerland in October 1969, chassis number 00522 is one of 355 ‘L Series’ cars constructed during the period when the 246 Dino was transitioning production to higher volume all steel construction. Many of the desirable L Series features contribute to the rarity of these cars, but, at the time of delivery, the rarity of this sub-group of cars remained largely unknown to collectors. Over time, this series has become highly sought after. Originally finished in the elegant and rare color Rosso Dino (20-R-350) the interior was trimmed in black vinyl (Nero 161) including the L Series rear bulkhead mounted headrests. Having arrived in North America by the 1970s, the car is known to have been in Texas through the 1970s and 1980s. In the 1980s, the engine reportedly dropped a valve, and the car was subsequently placed in dry storage awaiting necessary mechanical attention. The next owner purchased the car intending to repair it but was unable to complete the work. The car was then purchased by a well-known midwest Ferrari parts supplier and subsequently purchased by a collector in 2012 who commissioned a full restoration. During the restoration, the owner was meticulous about locating the very best OEM or original parts as possible. Many of these components were purchased from expert Dino parts authorities including the former owner of the car. Parts purchases were well over $60,000, rebuild costs recorded at $50,000, with an additional $150,000 was spent on cosmetics. After more than three years in restoration, the completed car was offered at auction in 2017 and sold to the current owner. Under current owner care, the car was assigned to a restorer who wanted this Dino to achieve a Platinum award under Ferrari concours judging. Although this Dino was completed to a high level of finish, it has not been entered in concours judging. General Condition Today this Dino presents in excellent condition with a beautiful, smooth, and glossy paint surface. The paint has excellent coverage and depth, however there is minor paint bridging in selected areas. Overall, the finish has been properly detailed and professionally prepared both when it was restored and under the care of prior and current owners. The doors shut with a crisp latch and hold position flush to the body surfaces, though the passenger side lower door corner sits slightly proud of the body surface. Both the front lid, engine, and trunk lids open and close properly. The chrome trim is excellent overall on the top surfaces of the bumpers and the bumpers are mounted using correct hardware. The side view mirror, window molding, emblems, and badges are all in excellent condition. Glass lenses and turn indicator lenses are also in beautiful condition and properly detailed. The Cromodora wheels are correctly refinished and maintain excellent luster featuring correctly sized Michelin XWX radial tires. The wheels are mounted with single hub chrome plated triple ear center knockoffs, unique to the early L Series Dinos. The black interior creates a subtle understated elegance against the exterior body color. Not only are the seating and door panel surfaces supple, clean, and nicely presented, the original early seating architecture featuring rear bulkhead suspended headrests and perimeter seat bolsters are beautifully finished with correct foam structure, solid stitching, and smooth coloration. Red and black Daytona seat inserts offer a further sporting touch to the interior. Carpeting, headliner, and side trim panels are in excellent condition as are the mouse fur dash color and black interior accents. The center console is very nicely presented with the 5-speed gated shift plate, signature Dino details, and correct electric switches. The delightful array of gauges located in the instrument binnacle is in excellent condition with bright numeric indication and white needles. The finishing touch is the warm-toned factory correct wood rim steering wheel featuring alloy spokes and a bright yellow Dino center emblem. In all, the desirable interior presents as a handsome pairing to this stunning L Series, making it the perfect partner to the curvaceous Pininfarina designed, Scaglietti coachbuilt body. Under the hood, the transverse Dino V6 engine has been thoughtfully prepared and beautifully detailed with originality in mind. While a correct type engine for an early 246GT, the engine number appears to be from a batch just after this chassis number range, and one of the cylinder heads is a later series unit. The transmission number falls exactly in sequence to the chassis number and the remaining engine components are authentic to this series Dino. The earlier series raw alloy engine castings are honest, clean, and unpretentious, reflective of the mechanical beauty and natural casting finishes. The rear trunk area is nicely restored, and the front storage compartment features a full-sized spare tire with matching wheel, and a correct inner molded tub. The underside of the car is finished to a high level of detail, worthy of show presentation. No evidence of damage or structural compromise has been noted in the chassis and all suspension mounting points, suspension components, and exhaust are correct with correct hardware and mounting brackets. Driving this Dino, one is reminded of the very pleasant balance achieved with the mid-engine layout and V6 power. The gearbox shifts smoothly, and power comes on strong in each gear, pulling through low rpms and delighting drivers with a wide powerband and delightful sounds particularly in the higher rev range. Braking and suspension are responsive for the era, modestly improved by a set of correctly sized Michelin XWX tires showing ample tread. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright Highlights for this car - One of 355 L Series Dinos built from 1969-1970 - Restored in factory ordered Russo Rubino with Nero Interior - Correct Cromodora Knock-Off Wheels, Wood Steering Wheel, and Alloy Body Features General Overview Designed by the legendary Leonardo Fioravanti, responsible for some of the greatest Ferrari designs while at Pininfarina, the original 206 Dino GT was a delightful design combining a curvaceous body and innovative performance engineering inspired by racing successes Ferrari had achieved with their mid-engine prototypes. - 1968 Porsche 911
THE 911T IN THE RANGE The Porsche 912 was considered the entry-level model in the 911 range. But for enthusiasts, the 6-cylinder is a must. Porsche chose to insert a model between the two. The 912 had 90 bhp, the first 911 had 130 bhp and the 911T will have 110 bhp. Add to that a lower level of equipment and you have a 911 that is finally affordable. In terms of styling, the 911T has everything its big sisters have. It is available in a wide range of colours and with the famous Fuchs wheels. A 911 FOR RACING? Contrary to what you might think, many Porsche 911 2.0 T were bought for racing. The reason is simple: it's a simple car by design, which can easily be prepared for the track. Already light from the outset because it was lightly equipped, it offered good value for money for this type of use. The 2.0-litre 911Ts only went on sale from the end of 1967 until 1969. That year, the engine capacity was increased to 2.2 litres. While the 911 is one of the winningest cars in history, privateers deserve much of the credit. The Porsche factory was so busy building its purpose-built racers during the 1960s that they had little interest in fully backing the 911 for competition. Fortunately, those in Stuttgart were savvy enough to recognize that people were winning races in Porsche 911s even without factory help. By giving privateers some factory-conceived upgrade options, Porsche could increase the odds of victory for their customers and the chances of free publicity for the company. Starting in 1966 with the arrival of the lightweight, performance-tuned 911S, Porsche made Rally Kit packages available for aspiring privateer racers. Teams could pick and choose from a selection of competition parts available straight from the manufacturer. The standard Rally Kit provided anti-roll bars, upgraded brake pads and even endurance-minded options like a dead pedal for the driver. Power enhancements in the form of better venturis and jets for the carburetors and a racing exhaust could bump a 160-horsepower stock Porsche 911S to 175 Hp and beyond—all from two liters of displacement. With rally in mind, protective items like stone guards were also available. Thanks to these tweaks, it’s no surprise that in 1967 the Porsche 911 recorded a slew of victories all over the planet in the hands of privateer racers. In 1968, the 911 T as well as the 911 S were reclassified from the Touring Car category to Group 3 (Stock GT). Using the lessons learned with the mythical R, Porsche decided to offer a more radical version of its 911 T. The T was the obvious choice, as its body was already 52kg lighter than the S equivalent. Although officially referred to as a 911 T for homologation purposes, the upgraded racer was commonly known as the 911 T/R and to make it more competition-oriented, the car was stripped out of any kind of sound deadening, reducing the total weight by a further 25kg. Customers had a choice of two engine specifications. The first was the 160 bhp flat six as fitted in the 911 S road car. Altogether more potent was the Type 901/22 as originally fitted in the 906 sports racers. Among the differences compared to the production engine was the use of twin-spark ignition. To provide additional engine cooling, a separate oil- cooler was mounted in the front right wheel well. A lighter flywheel, a stronger clutch and a limited slip differential was also part of the package, while different gear ratios were also available. The competition package was available for DM 5,150 and it is believed that around 35 cars were upgraded to T/R specification. Campaigned exclusively by privateers, the cars were remarkably successful, scoring many Group 3 class wins in World Championship rounds. Erwin Kremer, Rolf Kelleners and Willy Kauhsen also piloted a 911 T/R to an outright win in the Spa 24 Hours. The Porsche 911 hit the jackpot at the Rallye Monte Carlo in 1968. The team of Vic Elford/David Stone captured the overall victory, and Pauli Toivonen/Martti Tiukkanen placed second overall. Porsche would repeat the overall win at the Monte in 1969 and 1970, adding considerably to the legacy of the early 911. Development of the 911 continued and for the 1969 season, Porsche introduced the S/T model powered by a larger, 2.3-litre version of the flat six engine. Our car was built in the perfect spirit of the private customer preparations of the time. The owner took care to assemble an exact replica of the many Porsche 911 T/Rs that raced in 1968. In 2012 he bought a 1968 Porsche 911T MY from a French collector, which was delivered to Sonauto (Porsche's French distributor) in September 1967 with color code 6809 'Tangerine'. From that date onwards, he entrusted the entire job to Historic Automobile Racing, a recognized specialist in rally Porsches based in Chaneins (France). The extensive file accompanying the car shows the quality of the work carried out on the body, engine and running gear. Following a complete stripping, the structure was reinforced and repainted in an emblematic color for the period: Light Ivory. For the engine, the sportiest option was chosen: a light block with dual ignition, similar to the engines used in the 906 prototypes. Assembled in this way, the car will take part in rallies such as the Tour Auto, as well as circuit races such as Le Mans Classic, where it will be entered on the Porsche grid. Freshly serviced, the car is sold with a valid FIA PTH and its racing accessories up to date: ready to take on the special stages of the next Tour Auto, for example. The car comes with a set of parts, including a long gearbox for Le Mans, 4 wheels, transmissions and various accessories. 1968 Porsche 911 Historic Cars If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1968 Lamborghini 400 GT
Following a bitter dispute with Enzo Ferrari, Ferruccio Lamborghini’s tractor empire had left him with enough capital to challenge the established Italian marque. His first foray into sportscars would see him hiring Giotti Bizzarrini, formerly of Alfa Romeo and latterly as a test driver and then chief engineer at Ferrari. His work at Ferrari included the development of the 250 TR and 250 GT Berlinetta SWB before his grand-finale, the 250 GTO. His direction saw a reduction in front lift and the movement of the engine further back into chassis for better handling; with a formidable result. After his departure from Ferrari, Bizzarrini would work on various sports racers before founding Società Autostar (SA), an engineering firm that would bid for freelance contracts. Ferruccio Lamborghini commissioned SA to build him a bespoke V12 powerplant to go up against Ferrari. It first appeared in the 350 GT as a 3,464cc in 1962 and its fundamental design would continue to see use until the Murcielago as a 6,496cc in 2010. The Lamborghini 350 GT was debuted at the 1964 Geneva Motor Show, with production starting in May of that year. Utilising independent suspension all round, Bizzarrini’s 3.5 litre V12 and a body by Carrozzeria Touring, the 350 was an instant hit. Lamborghini had asked that his Gran Turismo’s powerplant was ‘good for 40,000 hard miles between services’, which saw the engine detuned from its 400hp racing prototype, to a still generous 270hp in production specification. Lamborghini produced 120 examples of the 350 GT before the upgraded 400 GT 2+2 was introduced in 1966. There were a handful of interim cars with the larger engine but the original form. Benefitting from an enlarged 4.0 litre V12, the 400 GT saw power increase to 320hp and a revised, Lamborghini-designed gearbox with a synchromesh on all gears. Then importers Mitchell & Britten brought just 4 examples of the 400 GT in to the UK. These four cars were sent to renowned coachbuilders Hooper & Co for conversion to right hand drive. This example was first registered on 16th February 1968 where it would gain the registration ‘SLF 406F’ that it retains to this day. It has been quoted several times during the history of this 400 GT that it found first ownership with Sir Paul McCartney of The Beatles. References to his ownership are mentioned in several published books; Lamborghini Supreme Amongst Exotics by Andrew Moreland; Lamborghini by Chris Harvey; and Lamborghini: The Legend by David Hodges. One of the sister RHD cars, ‘SLF 403F, also maroon over beige at the time, shares this claim to fame. What is known about this 400 GT starts from shortly after; accompanied by a thorough history folio, including its continued ‘Buff’ logbook from 1972 onwards. Earliest confirmed ownership is penned with that of H.E Fuller & Son of Buckhorn Weston, Dorset. The 400 GT would remain with them for 3 years, moving into the name of another Dorset based company and then into the name of John Menhinick of Beauchamp Roding in 1975. John’s son Alex as well as the succeeding custodian Michael Hipperson, joined us at DK recently to see the car for the first time in 45 years. Registered in John’s name, he had used the car sparingly, whilst wife Nancy used the car as her daily driver. Son Alex recalled taking the wheel aged just 18, and stretching the legs of the 4.0 litre V12! The Menhinicks kept the car until 1979 and it was fondly remembered during that time. In 1979, the car was owned by avid collector and enthusiast Michael Hipperson. He recalled purchasing the car from the Menhinicks large, ivy-clad house. Michael didn’t keep the car long, but it is still fondly chronicled in his book ‘Let Them Stare’. Michael sold the car to Nicholas Portway, an avid fan of both Lamborghini and The Beatles. Nic would keep the car the longest and fall so much for the car he would even own it twice. The 400 GT would see occasional use in Nic’s care for over 10 years, before his first sale at the peak of classic car values in the early 1990s for £70,000. Buyers remorse saw him purchase the car back two years later, with just 800 miles added to the car but the value halved! Nicholas kept good care of the car, rebuilding the gearbox in 1988 and the rear suspension 6 years later. MOTs were diligently carried out documenting the mileage along the way. In 2011, the car was placed into a Bonhams auction and whilst it would fail to sell on the day, it would find its next custodian shortly after. The next custodian would relocate the car to Hong Kong, where it would be stored for the most part with Lamborghini Hong Kong. The car would take centre stage on alongside an LP400 Periscopio and Reventon Roadster in a Lamborghini pop-up museum in 2014.The 400 GT was used sparingly and later returned to the UK. Most recently the car has been treated to a full restoration. The 400 GT was taken back to bare metal with specialists Bodylines of Northampton, later refinished in the period correct shade of Grigio St Vincent by Matt Fells. The engine was rebuilt by Chesman Motorsport with final setup completed by Tom Ransom of Colin Clarke Engineering. Other works including the gearbox, axle and wiring loom were carried out by Scott Smith. The interior has been tastefully reappointed in Connolly Vaumol VM3104 Ochre. The restoration has been extensively documented with close to 400 photographs, presented in the accompanying history folio. A rare opportunity to acquire one of just four UK supplied 400 GTs, this example is ready to be used and enjoyed by its next custodian and is available to view at our showrooms outside London immediately. 1968 Lamborghini 400 GT D.K. The Escort RS Cosworth was an homologation special and its sole role was to incorporate parts that Ford planned to use in their rally cars to ensure success in International Rallying. Because it was smaller, lighter and nimbler than any of the Sierras, the combination of Cosworth power, four-wheel drive transmission and an effective aerodynamic package made it a rally giant in all conditions. Success duly followed between 1993 and 1998 in the World Rally Championship for manufacturers, but the road cars were very rare - with just 2,500 homologation special versions made, becoming known as 'big turbo cars', all capable of 150mph and easily identified by the aptly named Whale Tail rear spoiler. On offer here is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive Escort RS Cosworth with only two former keepers and 28,873 miles from new at the time of cataloguing. First registered on 31st August 1995, the car is finished in the rare colour of Ford Aubergine with a Recaro trimmed Polaris Hex upholstery along with deep pile carpets and carpeted door bins. Being a Lux, the car is equipped with opening rear quarter windows, electrically operated and heated door mirrors, 'Quickclear' heated windscreen, heated washer jets, 3-spoke leather-covered steering wheel, central double locking, tailgate release, lights on warning, rear centre armrest, rear head restraints, electric sunroof, electric windows, with the factory fitted Ford radio cassette alongside the factory upgrade 2040 CD player. It sits on original Ronal soft-spoke 8x16 genuine Ford alloy wheels in excellent condition shod with Toyo Proxes 225/45ZR16 tyres all round. The car was supplied new by Ford RS dealers, Bristol Street Motors in Cheltenham and is complete with its dealer book pack containing the service history as follows: 1,870miles - 18/10/1995 9,511 miles - 15/05/1996 19,854 miles - 01/03/1997 24,593 miles - 26/09/2008 - including cambelt kit 28,824 miles - 14/06/2022 The car is accompanied by three keys, including the 'Red' master key and the aforementioned service history. This is a low ownership, low-mileage example finished in a rare colour and is therefore an opportunity not to be missed. Just two previous owners, 28,873 miles from new and finished in the rare colour of Ford Aubergine, this is a highly desirable 'Fast Ford'. 1995 Ford Escort RS Cosworth Lux Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL
The 3.0 CSL is a lightweight, performance-oriented version of the standard 3.0 CS/3.0 CSi coupé. Utilising the E9 platform, the 3.0 CSL was unveiled at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show and was introduced in May 1972 as an homologation model for the German Touring Car Championship developed by a separate division within BMW AG, a division that would later become BMW Motorsport GmbH.The CSL achieved some great results, with wins at Le Mans in the touring car class in 1973 and 1974, the IMSA GT Championship in 1975, and winning the European Touring Car Championships every year from 1973 to 1979 (apart from a minor blip in 1974).The 'L' in the designation meant leicht (light), unlike in other BMW designations, where it meant lang (long). A total of 1,096 CSLs were built, with just 500 of these being imported into the UK. The great majority of UK cars had the 'City Package' option fitted, designed to make the 3.0 CSL more usable as a daily driver. These versions retained the standard interior trim, negating the total weight saving somewhat, but the other benefits were retained, including aero kit, thinner gauge steel and aluminium parts. Early CSLs, produced in late 1971 and early 1972, utilised the standard 2,985cc M30 inline-six engine with twin carburettors and were only offered in left-hand drive. They were replaced by a fuel-injected model displacing 3,003cc available in right-hand drive during late 1972 and early 1973. Fuel-injected CSLs with the 3-litre motor have VINs that run from 2275001 through 2275429 (left-hand drive version) and 2285-001 through 2285-500 (right-hand drive UK cars). The fabulous CSL on offer here, finished in Taiga Green with a black interior, is #2285-469, indicating that it was built right at the end of the UK-allocated cars. Much of the early servicing was carried out by BMW dealer, Fairfield Garage of Leigh on Sea, at the instruction of of Mr. Hudson of the Facet Group. Multiple invoices show he used the CSL up to a mileage of 47,000. It then resided in Hertfordshire for nearly 21 years with its new lady owner, who obviously used it lightly as she covered less than 12,000 miles during that period. There is a record of some renovation work taking place in the mid-1980s prior to it being sold in 2003 at a mileage of 61,900, corroborated by past MOTs. In 2005, it was purchased by our vendor who has used and maintained it, with a full account of his expenditure on repairs and maintenance fastidiously kept in the comprehensive history file. The majority of the servicing from 2006 was conducted by our vendor's hometown garage, J.J. Griffiths of Lllandrindod Wells, with any bodywork attention by King of Cool Classic Cars and the front seats were retrimmed by West Country Trimmers in 2017. Most recent mechanical work was carried out by Munich Legends in 2021 and there is an invoice for an oil change in September 2023. This lovely, stylish, low-owners BMW 3.0 CSL coupé enjoys an impressive history file and service record and represents a fine example of the car that defined Touring Cars in the 1970s and, 50 years later, still has a presence that few cars can match. 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright The 3.0 CSL is a lightweight, performance-oriented version of the standard 3.0 CS/3.0 CSi coupé.
