- 1967 Jaguar Type E OTS
When Jaguar unveiled its Type E at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1961, it was a complete surprise. Surprise, because no one had had any prior information about the future Grand Touring of the Coventry brand, and also because the Type E line totally captivated the crowds. A William Lyons design, a sporty yet comfortable) chassis and first-class performance were the hallmarks of the new Jaguar Type E. Not to mention the unbeatable price then, since it was three times cheaper than a Ferrari and half as much as a Maserati...Since the end of the war, Jaguar has become the symbol of British Grand Touring. The entire genealogy of XK roadsters (120 to 150) has largely contributed to building this sporting image in addition to the many victories in major competitions. But at the dawn of the 1960s, despite all their qualities, the XKs could not hide their age. So, in secret, Coventry is working on the replacement. On 15 March at the Geneva Motor Show, it is the crowd of journalists in the Parc des Eaux-Vives who can admire a preview of the new Coventry star. Then, it is the great crowd at the Geneva Motor Show. The comments and reactions are ecstatic. Every time an E-Type Jaguar appears in the street, there is a crowd. One the stream of stars and personalities who hastened to take orders for the beautiful English car: Françoise Sagan, Johnny Haliday, Bernard Consten, Charles Trenet, Pierre Bardinon, Robert Hirsch, not to mention the crowned heads. But not content with having a line to cut the blow, the Jaguar E-Type could boast of having a royal chassis for the time... The design of the Jaguar Type E has often been attributed to Sir William Lyons. But as in every automobile genesis, there is a captain at the helm, and a whole team behind him working in his shadow. Malcolm Sayer, an aerodynamicist from the aeronautics industry, assumes the authorship of the pencil stroke. Dressing a very light tubular chassis, our English designer gave the Jaguar Type E an immensely long and flat bonnet which quickly contributed to the magnetism operated on the public. The opening of the bonnet is total with the complete block tilting forward and fully uncovering the mechanics. At the front, a small grille looks like a suggestive half-open mouth, leaving the door open to the most fertile imaginations. Two round headlights are under globes and recessed. The rear is Fastback style with the roof sloping down to the slim taillights. The finish on board does not suffer from criticism, quite the contrary, and a large bootmakes it possible to envisage long journeys. Isn't this precisely the primary vocation of a GT? Jaguar owes so much to the XK engine that we can't talk without recalling its history. When the Jaguar XK120 roadster was presented at Earls Court in 1948, the English motor show, the love at first sight with the public was immediate. Its name "XK 120" comes from its engine and performance. Equipped with the XK engine, this Jaguar-designed in-line six, it gave the Jaguar XK120 Roadster a top speed of... 120 miles per hour! Born in 3.4 litres with its cast iron block and an aluminum cylinder head, its distribution was done by two overhead camshafts. Not bad in 1948 ! For its Jaguar Type E, Coventry equipped it with a rebored version of the XK engine. The in-line 6 now has a displacement of 3.8 litres (87x106 mm) and retains its character of a long-stroke engine. This means more torque from the lowest revs. The power announced by the factory is 265 hp SAE at 5500 rpm and a torque of 35.9 mkg at 5500 rpm. With a top speed of 240 km/h and a 0-100 km/h time of less than 8 seconds many motorists in their 'modern' cars are surprised by the good health of the E-Types. The Jaguar Type E has been the object of the most careful attention for its chassis. Indeed, many solutions have been taken from the competition. Thus, for the new GT of Coventry the chassis engineers (Bob Knight and Norman Dewis) have imagined a cradle independent of the hull. It houses the rear suspension, brakes and differential. It is then attached to the body by V-shaped silent-blocks. This isolates the passenger compartment from any interference from suspension and/or road irregularities. For the front part, it is almost a "copy and paste" of the Type D race structure. Two superimposed triangulated levers, including the lower one which houses the front end of the longitudinal torsion arm.To slow down its sharp-clawed feline, Jaguar adopted the principle of disc brakes successfully inaugurated at the Le Mans 24 Hours in June 1953 with the Jaguar Type C. All four wheels are equipped with them and a separate dual braking system is fitted. With a contained weight of 1,220 kg, the Jaguar Type E boasts a very flattering power-to-weight ratio that allows it to claim the status of a true sports car. The handling is very modern and it is above all the ride comfort that is astonishing. It's easy to see why Jaguar would make a name for itself in the chassis business. Its line makes it a collector's item of choice, its technical solutions and its genesis still allow it to be a modern car and its engine, which seemed archaic at the time, now stands out thanks to its reliability. The Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2-litre Launched with a 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine, the E-Type was upgraded to a 4.2-litre unit at the London Motor Show in October 1964. It also benefited from a fully synchronized gearbox, and was produced until September 1968. The Series 2 then took over. The long-stroke 3.8-litre twin-shaft six-cylinder engine with cast-iron block was re-bored to 92 mm, giving it a displacement of 4,235 cm3. While it produces the same 265bhp, maximum torque has been increased from 38.6mkg to 42mkg, for greater flexibility. Fitted with an aluminium 'straight port' cylinder head and fed by three SU HD 8 carburettors, it enabled the E-Type to reach the magic 150-mile mark, or 240 km/h. A marvel of smoothness and power, the six-cylinder XK has a wonderful smoothness that contributes to the pleasure of driving an E-Type. Typical of a long-stroke powertrain, it's more round than responsive, and its enormous torque means it can take off at very low revs. The 4.2-litre Series 1 delivers virtually identical performance to the 3.8-litre version. Its essential contribution lies in its synchronised gearbox, which transforms the car's personality and considerably enhances driving pleasure. Interior and finish. The cabin has been slightly modified: new seats replace the bucket seats of the 3.8-litre version, while a glovebox has been placed on the centre console in the middle of the seats. As a result, the car is more comfortable and slightly less sporty than its predecessor. The all-black dashboard abandons the corked aluminium of the 3.8-litre 1 Series. Between the wild, hardcore 3.8-litre and the Americanised Series 2, the 1st Series 4.2-litre represents a perfect compromise. Its engine offers greater flexibility thanks to improved torque, and its fully synchronised gearbox makes a major contribution to driving pleasure. Combining the undiminished sportiness inherited from the 1 Series with improved comfort thanks to its new seats, it still offers the privilege, compared with the 2 Series, of preserving the magnificent original lines of the E-Type. According to Jaguar Heritage our car was delivered new to Thierry Mathews of Bridgport West, Virginia by Jaguar New York on 06 April 1967 in Opalesent Silver blue with blue interior and blue soft top, the livery it still wears today. The car was returned to England in 1977 at Notthingham, before being returned to the Americas at Orwingsburg in Pennsylvania in the hands of John S Delong in 2001. Mark Snowden imported it to the UK before selling it to Sarajit Mitra in 2012, who undertook a complete restoration of the car. The current owner acquired the car in 2014 when it was imported to France and still maintains it scrupulously: this Roadster is a real pleasure to drive. If you're looking for an everyday E-Type that has retained all its original features, you'll be hard pressed to find a better example than this. 1967 Jaguar Type E OTS Historic Cars If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1999 Ferrari F355 F1 GTS
Cambelt change in 2022. Switchgear re-furbished. The Ferrari F355 Berlinetta was introduced in May 1994, as a direct replacement for the Ferrari 348. Initially it was only available with the more desirable 6 speed manual transmission. The emphasis behind the Pininfarina designed F355 was to improve performance, as well as drivability across a wider range of speeds and in different environments including lower city speeds. Built around a steel monocoque with tubular steel rear sub-frame. The 355 offered fully independent front and rear suspension with coil springs over gas-filled telescopic shock absorbers, electronic control servos and anti-roll bars. Aerodynamic design for the car included over 1,300 hours of wind tunnel analysis. The car incorporates a “Nolder” profile on the upper portion of the tail, and fairing on the underbody that generates negative lift when the car is at speed. Apart from the displacement increase from 3.4 to 3.5 litre, the major difference between the V8 engine in the F348 and F355 is the introduction of a 5-valve per cylinder head, hence the name F355 – 3.5l and 5 valves per cylinder. This new head design allowed for better air intake and resulted in a more powerful engine producing 370bhp at 8,250rpm, this resulted in a 0-60 mph of just 4.6 secs and onto a top speed of 183mph. As with all Ferrari’s only the best materials available at the time were used in their no expense sparred production. The Ferrari F355 F1 GTS offered here at Autostorico was supplied new in March 1999 by Mortimer Houghton Turner Ltd Ferrari. Finished in Tour de France Blue with Tan leather, this stunning four owner example has covered a mere 15,420 miles. Boasting a comprehensive service history have last been carried out by GTO Engineering Ltd at 15,143 miles. - 1981 BMW 635 Group 2
At the end of the 1970s, BMW occupied a virgin territory between sportiness and luxury, notably thanks to the development of a range of high performance models entrusted to its competition department. Formerly named BMW Motorsport, its activities began effectively on the circuits but with the know-how and the reputation acquired, the M department was quickly tempted to develop true models of exception derived from BMWs approved for the road. Thus was born the BMW E24, successor to the E9, an elegant and luxurious 4-seater coupé, the first model in the BMW 6 series. Production began in October 1975 and the car was launched in March 1976. Known and appreciated for its supple and melodious engines, BMW's large bourgeois coupé nevertheless suffered from an excess weight which penalised its performance. Performance was often judged to be below what its sleek and elegant appearance would have suggested. Initially presented in a 3L version, the first evolution of power arrived in 1978 with the 635 CSi model. The CSi's noble inline six-cylinder engine delivers a haunting sound from idle that never tires. The 635 CSI coupé also has an ideal weight distribution (53.6% front and 46.4% rear), which is dear to the Bavarian brand, to guarantee a very balanced driving experience. Balance, robustness... Strong of these qualities, it is not surprising that BMW very quickly wished to align with success this new BMW 635 on the European circuits and in the principal races of endurance as well as Gr.A that in its rare versions Gr.2 Even if the 635CSi had a 105-horsepower deficit compared to the Jaguar V12, it kept the weight advantage, 222kg less than the Jaguar V12... All these assets gave it a greater reliability, greater capacities to turn, while consuming less and saving on the brakes and thus the tyres. All these assets were perfect to counter the Jaguars and especially for the long rounds of the ETCC like the 24 hours of Spa. Entered and prepared by renowned teams: Schnitzer, Eggenberger, BMW Italia, the 635 CSi was also driven by the most talented drivers of the time: Dieter Quester, Helmut Kelleners.... Despite the lack of power compared to its rivals, the 6 Series' great tenacity, rock-solid reliability and fine handling enabled it to conquer virtually every round of the inaugural Group A season on every continent! With dozens of race victories and 12 major national and international titles, the BMW 635 CSi is one of the most successful touring cars of all time. While almost 100 cars (86) were produced in GR.A only a handful of 635s were produced in the Gr.2 version It was this rare configuration that was chosen by the owner of our car when he started work on building a real racing car. Based on a genuine 635 road car, the car was entrusted to the renowned workshop Atlantic Racing, known for its skills in prototypes but also with a solid reputation in BMW engines. The workshop then undertook a titanic task to build a rare Gr.2 version perfectly in line with the period specifications. M30B34 dry sump engine 340hp. Getrag Sport gearbox. Specific hub holders and triangles. Welded body. Matter roll bar... Our BMW made its first run in 2018 in Barcelona in the HTC series of Peter Auto. It then made numerous appearances in HTC races, notably at Spa and Le Castelet, where it proved to be reliable and increasingly fast. With its FIA Historic Technical Passport, this car is ready to go back on track. 1981 BMW 635 Group 2 Historic Cars If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright At the end of the 1970s, BMW occupied a virgin territory between sportiness and luxury, notably thanks to the development of a range of high performance models entrusted to its competition department. - 1991-lamborghini-diablo-2
As the signature straight-line slash in the rear wheel arch design signaled, the breathtaking styling of the Diablo was the work of the great Marcello Gandini. The model, which followed in the footsteps of the Miura and Countach as the third mid-engined V-12 offering from Lamborghini, was to be the marque’s bedroom wall poster star of the 1990s. Offered here is the 362nd out of 401 original-specification Diablos built during 1991. Fewer than 900 first-generation cars were produced in total between 1990 and 1998. This example notably features the distinctive “cliff” instrument binnacle and does without power steering. Naturally, the unfiltered driving experience is dominated by the 5.7-liter V-12 engine that delivers 485 horsepower to the rear wheels via a dogleg, five-speed manual transmission for a claimed top speed of a mighty 202 mph. Delivered new to Auto Palace of Pittsburgh finished in the color combination of Black over a Champagne leather interior, this Lamborghini was first registered in Pennsylvania on 7 January 1992. Remarkably, the car was retained by its original owner for 25 years before his passing. The Diablo was then sold in July 2017 before finding a new custodian in late 2018. In May of the following year, the Lamborghini was treated to an extensive service by DriverSource of Houston. The accompanying invoice (available to view on file) documents the fitment of new door struts, a rebuild of the alternator, an oil and filter change, a refresh of the air-conditioning system, a replacement head gasket, plus the installation of a rear wing as part of the work that totaled $18,788. Please note, with the car recorded at the time as showing 12,859 kilometers (~7,991 miles), the drive gear in the odometer was replaced. The Diablo was then acquired in January 2021 by the European consignor, a prolific car collector. Under their care, the Lamborghini was taken to marque specialist Auto Kremer of Bonn, Germany, for a complete restoration. Invoices from 2023 detail a gearbox and engine-out service, the fitment of a new clutch, and an overhaul of the electrical system at a cost of €31,221, or over $32,500. Auto Kremer noted the Diablo with 13,121 kilometers (~8,154 miles). The color has also been changed to the current shade of SE30 Viola, as famously worn by the limited-edition Diablo SE30 anniversary special. Now displaying 13,302 kilometers (~8,266 miles) at the time of cataloguing, and accompanied by a tool roll, assorted spare bulbs and fuses, plus a tire inflator kit, this fantastically flamboyant Lamborghini remains a true showstopper more than three decades after first hitting the road. Offering the Diablo in its earliest and purest form, this car is sure to be coveted by supercar collectors. 1991 Lamborghini Diablo RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1992-alfa-romeo-spider
The spiders of the 105 and 115 series are the longest produced models in Alfa Romeo’s history. When the spider was introduced in spring 1966, it received mixed reviews. Most of the hard core Alfisti would have wished for a different successor for the slightly baroque looking Giulia spider. The sporty cabriolet nevertheless turned out to be a great success (thanks in no small part to a certain graduate, Mr. Dustin Hofmann) and little changed in its shape until 1993. The example offered in Verde English stems from the 4th and last series and was handed over to its lucky first owner on the 2nd of June 1992. After most probably three changes of ownership in 2003, 2016 and 2021, the spider was taken over by its last keeper in August 2022. He provided the cabriolet with a cosmetic refreshment in 2024 and had a new soft top and new seat covers in beige leather with Alcantara centres installed. In September of the same year, a service including a change of the oil filter and new spark plugs was completed. With now 91’400 kilometres driven and a full service booklet (the cambelt had been replaced at 73’391 kilometres) the sporty little cabriolet is in very good and lovingly maintained condition and will be handed to the next enthusiast with the last MOT from August 2022. 1992 Alfa Romeo Spider Oldtimer Galerie International GmbH If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1988 Aston Martin V8 Volante
This Volante was originally specified in left hand drive V585 EFI specification destined for Switzerland and completed on 7th November 1986, finished in Jubilee Silver with dark blue hides. Upon completion the car was used by the factory for press photography displaying the factory registration ‘AML 1’ and was almost immediately converted to right hand drive UK specification in the service department at Newport Pagnell in 1987 as documented on the works record Retained on file is a copy of the original sales invoice from Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd to Aston Martin Sales Ltd on 11th January 1988 ‘Aston Martin V8 Volante Automatic Convertible, finished in Jubilee Silver with Dark Blue leather, Dark Blue Hood and set of fitted luggage, ex Works price £68,227’ The original Warranty card on file was issued to first owner Mr Robert Cooper of Cooper Metal Holdings, Swindon, on 26nd February 1988 with registration E612 KYH. Mr Cooper was a well known and loyal Aston Martin client and has enjoyed numerous new Aston Martin motorcars for over forty years. The Volante remained with Mr Cooper until it was replaced in 1989 by his brand new V8 Vantage Volante ‘Ecurie Ecosse’, the last of three special order examples built following a bespoke request from the McCaig brothers who owned the Ecurie Ecosse racing team Due to a surge of interest in the final series of 580X V8 Vantage and Volante models in the late eighties, new cars and the even rarer ‘Prince Of Wales’ specification cars were difficult to obtain and Aston Martin main agents such as Stratton and Chapman Spooner offered their clients the chance to upgrade their existing cars, hence a number of 580X Vantage Volante’s had their flairs removed and were rebuilt with ‘PoW’ coachwork During a recent conversation Roger Bennington, MD of Stratton Motor Co recalls they converted a number of Volante’s like this in period and the cost conversion was cGBP 25,000 which was a substantial amount in proportion to the values at the time In addition to the ‘PoW’ upgrades available from the aforementioned dealers a handful of Volante’s were also upgraded with 580X Vantage Volante bodywork which was also a complex and extremely costly upgrade with new panels supplied by the factory Our Volante was sold via Straight Eight in 1989 and over the winter of that year and was the subject of a comprehensive upgrade programme to latest 580X Vantage Volante cosmetic specification, refinished in Salisbury Blue and understood to have been one of a handful of cars upgraded in the period at the request of main agents Chapman Spooner by highly respected Aston Martin specialist Lincoln Scott The Volante was sold to Mr Murphy of Cossington, Leicestershire and was serviced by Chapman Spooner on March 7th 1990 at 2700 miles, again on March 11th 1991 at 5186 miles and then AML Ltd on 15th May 1992 at 9329 miles at which time it was briefly registered ‘1 AM’ as stated on the MoT certificate February 1991-1992 The next owner was Mr Paul Southgate of Essex between 1994-98 where it joined his private collection sharing garage space with a Lamborghini Countach and Espada. Throughout Mr Southgate’s ownership the Aston was serviced by Aston Martin Sevenoaks on 6th January 1994 at 11,612 miles and was later sent to Aston Martin exponents RS Williams on 6th March 1996 for full mechanical conversion from electronic fuel injection to carburettors setup (whilst retaining its original matching numbers engine and gearbox) and fitted with the latest RSW handling pack and Brembo big brake conversion, the cost of which today would exceed GBP 25,000 The Volante was later serviced by Carrera Sport of Haywards Heath on 14th July 1998 at 18,610 miles and sold to the previous owner in October of that year via Aston specialist dealer Byron International in October 1998 with mileage at 19,000 miles The Volante would remain with its former keeper for the next twenty five years covering just 9700 miles during their ownership and totalling 28,781 miles by October 2023. During their tenure the Volante benefitted from a chassis restoration and maintenance by marque expert John Etheridge and Nicholas Mee. The car was professionally stored from August 2002 to October 2023 in a temperature controlled environment, regularly started and MoT tested every year until its sale on 27th October 2023 Over the past twelve months the Volante has been the subject of extensive recommissioning programme at a cost in excess of GBP 50,000 with marque specialists Quantum Works and R.S.Williams with supporting photos and invoices. An inspection of the car in the workshop in October 2023 revealed it had excellent structural condition, excellent original interior/carpets/hood, excellent bodywork and a very healthy engine, a testament to the excellent conditions at Tigastore but in need of a full recommission following a long period of stoarge The engine was subsequently removed, water pump/ancillaries rebuilt, engine bay and engine fully repainted and detailed with all relevant ancillaries replated, carburettor fuel system rebuild and tune, gearbox rebuild with quick shift kit, air conditioning rebuild with new hoses, new alloy radiator, new oil cooler, uprated ignition, RSW big bore exhaust system, Nardi steering wheel, new Michelin Pilot Sport tires, original Ronal wheels refurbished, RSW wheel spacer kit, new wishbone and differential bushes with geometry setup, full brake rebuild with new servos etc, Blaupunkt DAB radio to name but a few items! Supplied with the original service book, every MoT certificate from new warranting the low 31,500 original miles, extensive service history and original Tanne and Krolle fitted luggage, this superb Volante is now ready for immediate enjoyment and both presents and drives extremely well 1988 Aston Martin V8 Volante Dylan Miles Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster 1
History of the Iconic 300 SL Roadster The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL roadster was among the most exotic offerings when it was first released. Rare and desirable, these traits have allowed it to remain at the top of premier collector and expert lists as one of the most important and iconic vehicles ever constructed. The 300 SL Gullwing and Roadster were each unique milestones of engineering and design excellence when first released in 1954 with the roadster following just three years later. Delivered with production fuel-injection (first of its kind), and achieving the world's fastest top speed, the 300 SL (S-Sport, L-Light) confirmed Max Hoffman’s challenge to Mercedes-Benz engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut – to build a Gran-Prix car tailored for road use. Despite the impressive cost when new, demand for the gullwing was high, yet when it came to the growing US market, the roadster became a critical part of the legendary presence these cars would establish. Far more than a topless gullwing, the roadster was an entirely unique offering, sharing very few components with the gullwing while vastly improving on the shortcomings of the earlier design. The roadster was fortified with additional structural frame members and the side structure improved with traditionally hinged doors and larger openings. Further structural improvements resulted in greater torsional rigidity and better handling via single-pivot swing-axle rear suspension, improving the former gullwing bump oversteer. Other improvements included roll-up windows, increased horsepower, softer coil springs, and vastly improved larger drum brakes. These improvements made for a much more enjoyable road car without compromising the sporting nature of the race-bred original. History of this 300 SL Roadster Although any 300 SL is a rare car today, it has become increasingly difficult to find documented original low mile examples. Although a total of 1,858 roadsters were built from 1957-1963, a mere 249 roadsters were constructed 1960. This 1960 300 SL roadster is one of just a few surviving examples that has been carefully preserved while sensitively preparing a very handsome balance of originality and artful refinishing. The car has been documented with a Mercedes-Benz Classic Certificate confirming the factory stampings and number plates on the car today. Originally delivered in Fire Brigade Red with black leather interior, the car was optioned from the factory with the following features, also confirmed by the Certificate. Folding black fabric top Hardtop finished in black Cover plate US Version Rear axle ratio 3,89 Becker radio set, Mexico White wall tires After delivery to North America on April 1, 1960, the car gradually accumulated consecutive miles with written documentation beginning at 10,950 miles, January 22, 1963, as recorded in a pocket-sized booklet containing numerous handwritten mileage and date notations. By the mid 1970s, this 300 SL roadster had accumulated 25,716 miles as noted in the last entry of the booklet. By the 1990s, the car had arrived at 300 SL restoration and preservation experts Hatch and Sons, Wayland, MA. Well respected in the 300 SL community, Hatch and Sons’ expertise has focused on originality and preservation. Much of these preservation efforts were carefully applied to this car in the late 1990s when the car retained both the original paint and original interior. The original interior was carefully removed, and the original leather selectively redyed with two coats of black dye while the original carpets were replaced with a correct new set for the cabin. The original trunk compartment carpet was retained along with the headliner lining the original removable hardtop. During the careful preservation-based restoration, with the original interior removed, the exterior of the body was stripped to bare metal, a minor area in the front of the car repaired, the surfaces prepped and primed, and painted in the correct shade of red. All chrome was redone, the fuel tank restored, the engine was freshened, and new fuel hoses, new filters, and new shock absorbers were installed. In April 2002, Hatch and Sons sold the car to the next owner. A former Massachusetts state title issued in 2002 indicates actual miles at 27,244. In 2006, RPM, Vermont, performed a comprehensive 100+ hour mechanical service including removing the engine, removing the crankshaft, and inspecting it for wear. The crank was measured and inspected and found to be in good order, and reinstalled. The transmission and engine were resealed, the fuel injection rebuilt including the injector pump, along with a new diaphragm and a new plunger, and all injectors were rebuilt. The clutch, pressure plate, and release bearing were replaced, the radiator was re-cored, and the starter, generator, and water pump were mechanically and cosmetically overhauled. After completion, the engine was tested, valves adjusted, and the engine compartment was comprehensively detailed with cosmetic freshening including new decals and attention to wiring, hose clamps, and other ancillary items. Numerous service and restoration records on file span 1999-2010 under prior ownership. The current owner purchased the car in 2015 from Fantasy Junction and has since enjoyed it as part of a private collection of vintage sports cars with service needs managed primarily by an in-house mechanic. The odometer indicates 31,456 miles and is believed to be original to the car. Condition and Features Today this rare and beautiful matching numbers 300 SL roadster presents as a very handsome sensitively preserved example featuring the original interior, numerous original details, and responsive mechanical continuity. Importantly, this car is an excellent example of true restorative arts. The term “restored” applies here to identify original features that were retained and freshened not replaced. Rather than replace original components and lose the critical history of a low mile vehicle, this car retains all the original features, mechanical details, and matching engine and transmission, all of which have been preserved and restored, not replaced. The preservation efforts were performed with a great deal of care focused on maintaining original finishes consistent with factory quality and fitment. The gleaming red finish remains glossy and smooth with attractive presentation throughout. The doors, hood, and trunk gaps are factory correct with a distinct original sound opening and shutting with notable German precision. The hood and trunk open and shut easily with excellent part lines. The exterior emblems and lenses are in excellent condition including the H4 headlights. The chrome is in excellent condition with the front bumper showing light surface haze and some aging on the top corner surfaces. The painted wheels and wheel covers are beautifully finished with matching red wheel covers contrasting the sporty black-wall tires. The low fender line, sculpted speed blisters, and race-inspired side vents deliver a powerful presence to the low-profile design. The interior has a very handsome and settled presence which speaks well of the longevity of the original finishes and quality of the selectively restored areas during the restoration. The beautifully contoured leather seats retain the original and distinctive Mercedes-Benz perforated seat insert material. The seats have a softly aged and settled presence to them, still firm in support, but welcomingly contoured through gentle use. The leather surfaces offer a pleasing contrast to the often-overdone replacement-focused restorations seen in many cars today. The black canvas top smoothly disappears into the hinged rear deck and latches into the windshield header with tight closure including a clear, taut rear window. The dashboard is beautifully presented with vivid instruments, excellent numeric indication, clear lenses, and finely maintained details including the original and unique center gauge cluster. The various detailed interior switches, levers, and knobs are in harmony with the light ivory steering wheel which matches the gear shift knob and horn center emblem. Further captivating details include the original Becker Mexico radio, rear speakers, and the delicate (often lost or incorrectly replaced) original ivory turn signal paddle. Even the original black leather dash pad has been thoughtfully preserved. Inside the trunk, the condition is consistent with the themes of originality with original carpets, correct details, and original trunk finishes. Overall, this car presents as a lovingly and professionally preserved example sensitively refined under dedicated ownership. Under the hood, the correctly finished fuel-injected 300 SL engine delivers a presentation worthy of the iconic artistic and mechanical excellence. The engine compartment is clean and well-presented reflective of the quality of the restoration performed some years ago. Finishes are correct but not overly prepared, rather just right for the blend of originality and preservation. During the restoration, the fuel injection was rebuilt, and all ancillary engine features were restored. Correct finishes, proper fittings, and attention to detail is evident throughout the engine compartment, with numbers matching the Mercedes-Benz Classic Certificate. The correct air cleaner housing and fittings are in place along with correct engine decals, some of which have lightly aged through use. The car starts on command and gently idles under proper warm up procedure. The engine is well tuned, and the gearbox engages easily in all gears offering smooth shifts and a properly sprung clutch. Suspension is quite pleasant on the highway with light steering, enjoyable passing power, and symmetrical braking with an even pedal when coming down from highway speeds. The chassis and underbody components are in very good condition with no significant issues and no visible signs of structural compromise. The integrity of the underside is consistent with the original features of this car in which time and modest miles have gently aged the original finishes over the past 64 years. The car is accompanied by a set of tools in a tool roll, owner’s manual set with tan plastic case, two sets of keys, the Mercedes-Benz Classic Certificate of Authenticity, and the original handwritten booklet documenting the early years of mileage. One of the most exotic cars available when new, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster was a performance leader in all respects, brimming with innovative features, many of which would become hallmarks of modern engineering. Today these fast, beautiful, and exclusive cars continue to appeal to collectors and enthusiasts for their inherent beauty, exceptional build quality, and ease of use especially when it comes to vintage road events. But perhaps the most compelling feature of this 300 SL Roadster is the combined preservation, low miles, and very few owners. Cars of this provenance are not only rare, they are impossible to recreate. AND, AS MANY COLLECTORS ARE REALIZING THIS, THE MARKET HAS BECOME MORE COMPETITIVE ESPECIALLY WITH YOUNGER GENERATIONS SEEKING THE VERY BEST EXAMPLES. This authentic, sensitively preserved, and thoughtfully freshened, numbers matching 300 SL Roadster is ready for enjoyable driving, premier vintage road tours, or weekend travel, combining all the promises of superb luxury sport motoring with vintage elegance. 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster Fantasy Junction If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright History of the Iconic 300 SL Roadster The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL roadster was among the most exotic offerings when it was first released. This particular example, Chassis WP0AB2968LS451994, is one such Carrera 4 Coupe that was purchased by its first owner from Don Rosen Imports in Conshohocken, PA. It was later purchased by its second and current owner in 1997 as a certified pre-owned vehicle from the same dealership where it was originally sold. The car sits on 16” Design 90 wheels and is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic paint, a $952 option, over a contrasting Slate Gray leather interior, which itself was a $2,182 option. Further options include a leather instrument housing, velour-like trunk carpet, heated sport seats, headlight washers, a rear wiper, painted trim rings, and a rear foglight. With over $7,800 in options, the total MSRP of this Porsche came out to $77,369 in 1990, or the equivalent of $188,048 in 2025 dollars. Over its thirty-plus years of ownership, this German classic was meticulously maintained to the highest degree, with service receipts and booklet stamps dating back to new. While this Porsche was serviced by several shops throughout its lifetime, the ones who saw it most frequently were Don Rosen Imports in Conshohocken, PA, Westtown Imported Cars in West Chester, PA, Porsche of The Main Line in Newtown Square, PA, and Performance Automotive Inc. in Malvern, PA. The only modifications on this car are the R-134 AC conversion that was completed in 2010, the original H1 headlights and fog lights being replaced with Euro-spec H4 lights in 2019 (original units included), and the original head unit being replaced with a modern Alpine unit in 2022. Lastly, Dynamat insulation has also been added to the floors for improved HVAC retention and sound deadening. On June 12, 2013, Performance Automotive Inc. performed an engine-out resealing service and a comprehensive replacement or service of all accessible components at 88,343 miles. The cam chain boxes, power steering drive, breather plate, and valve covers were resealed, and the valves were adjusted. The power steering hoses, thermostat oil hoses, crankcase oil hoses, steering rack boots, sunroof seal, and underhood sound pad were also replaced. Other miscellaneous service items of note include a new reverse light switch and a repair of the interior lights. All of these together racked up a bill of $10,875 but left the 911 running like new and addressed one of the most prominent service items you want to see with any Porsche. More recently, in preparation for sale, Performance Automotive Inc. replaced numerous key powertrain and suspension components, including the drive belts, front and rear brake hoses, front tie rod and sway bar boots, oil breather tank upper hose, left lower valve cover gasket, rear wiper arm, front and rear wiper blades, engine deck lid air struts, OEM under-engine pan, and the battery. At the same time, the front bumper cover was also repainted. The only real blemish to this vehicles history pertains to an incident in 2016. When a large truck impacted the drivers side rear quarter at less than 5 mph. The repair was entrusted to Brandywine Coach Works and was remedied with no expense spared. As such, the vehicle is not original paint. As it sits, this 1990 Porsche 911 shows around 110,000 miles on the odometer, but you wouldn’t know it from looking at it or driving it. Coming from long-term fanatical ownership, this 911 has not only been well-loved but, most importantly, well-maintained without regard for cost. The over 90 pages of maintenance records on file show that no expense was spared in keeping this Porsche on the road, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone to know that it currently has no outstanding service issues. Upon purchase, the new owner will receive all of the original books/manuals, the original tool kit and jack, the original tire inflator pump kit, the original wheel locks with two keys, two original ignition keys, two aftermarket spare keys, one plastic “credit card” key, and two car covers. In addition to a variety of spares, accessories and detailed service history file. 1990 Porsche Carrera 4 LBI Limited If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort
If you were an impressionable teenager in the 1980s, you had one of three supercars on your wall: the Lamborghini Countach, the Ferrari F40 or the Porsche 959. Gamechanger is an apt way to describe the latter – a Teutonic technological tour de force born of Porsche’s desire to go racing in the then-burgeoning Group B category. Ground-breaking innovations including variable torque bias, sequential turbochargers, ABS brakes, adjustable ride height and onboard tyre pressure monitors helped Porsche to redefine what the word versatile meant in the world of performance motoring. The 959 was a car which produced north of 450HP, nudged 200mph and delivered its mind-bending performance in a manner which made you feel like you were spinning the earth backwards. Even by the standards of today’s supercars, a spirited drive in a 959 alters your perception of speed. Yet its miraculous Jekyll and Hyde character meant unlike Porsche’s contemporaries, this was as comfortable and genuinely refined as a Mercedes-Benz saloon. The 959 is the genuine everyday supercar which pre-dated the cliché. Chassis no. 900086 The Porsche 959 Komfort presented here distinguishes itself as an original unrestored accident-free example that’s enjoyed just two owners and covered a mere 17,500 (documented) kilometres from new. Chassis number 900096 was the only 959 Komfort of the 292 produced delivered new to Austria. Well, technically that’s incorrect, since the original owner paid to collect the car directly from the Porsche factory in October of 1987. It was finished in Polar Silver Metallic over a Dark Grey leather interior and specified with the optional Sport seats, air-conditioning and Blaupunkt radio. The Austrian kept the 959 until 2012, when it was acquired by a German enthusiast building a remarkable collection of high-quality Porsche’s spanning the marque’s entire history. “This is a wonderful and authentic example of Stuttgart’s seminal supercar, worthy of the greatest Porsche collections – just like that it’s resided in for the last 14 years.” As the original service booklet and wealth of accompanying invoices attest, this 959 has always been fastidiously cared for and maintained regardless of cost. In the year from May of 2017 to March of 2018 alone, invoices from Porsche Centre Stuttgart were issued totalling over 90,000 euros. Retaining its original chassis, engine and gearbox, chassis number 900096 presents in exceptional mechanical and cosmetic condition. It’s accompanied by its factory user manuals, warranty and service books, tool roll, tyre compressor and jack sets, and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. This is a wonderful and authentic example of Stuttgart’s seminal supercar, worthy of the greatest Porsche collections – just like that it’s resided in for the last 14 years. 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort Girardo & Co.
