  • 1970 Jensen Interceptor II 2

Supplied new to the original Poldark heart-throb, Robin Ellis, this fabulous Interceptor II benefits from a documented restoration. The Interceptor was as much Italian as British, designed as it was by Carrozzeria Touring with the bodyshells built by Vignale before being delivered to the West Bromwich factory to be paired with the inimitable 6.3-litre Chrysler V8 and mechanicals. When new, the Interceptor cost substantially more than an Aston Martin and was double the price of an E-Type Jaguar. One would struggle to find a connection between Frank Sinatra and Sir Matt Busby but both drove an Interceptor. The celebrity ownership list is extensive whilst the Interceptor's appearance on a slew of glamourous TV action series during the period, gave the car a certain louche, playboy image. Production of the Interceptor II, occasionally called the Mk II or Series II, commenced in October 1969 and lasted for two years. This particular car has a chassis prefix, #123 and is one of the 694 right-hand drive UK-cars powered by the E-Series 383ci V8, generating around 330bhp. It was first registered in the spring of 1970 and supplied new on 6th May of that year to British actor, Robin Ellis, best known for playing the leading role in the original version of the BBC series, Poldark. Purchased for just under £8,000 or the equivalent of £150,000 in today’s money, this Jensen was a statement car for a jobbing actor who was yet to gain international success until five years later, and is surely a testament to the Interceptor’s attraction, as 'the' car to own at the time. Several enthusiastic owners enjoyed the Jensen over the years and in 2015, the decision was made to completely restore it, as detailed in the file. Less than a decade later, the car’s restoration has 'bedded in' nicely. The Interceptor’s early history is supported by a large file containing the factory pre-sale inspection documentation, older paperwork and historic MOT Certificates. The Heritage Certificate is filed with a wealth of maintenance invoices, with the most recent service carried out in January 2023. Purchased from us in May 2023 and subsequently fitted with a new power steering set up, the car was initially intended to be upgraded by Jensen International Automotive with their full Corvette engine and running gear conversion, at a cost of some £200,000. However, having viewed and successfully bid on one of the earlier Corvette-engined, upgraded JIA cars, at our Iconic Auctioneers sale in November 2023, this car therefore became surplus to requirements. Finished in a lovely shade of a very pale grey with a black leather interior that is reminiscent of luxury GT cars of the era. Subtly upgraded with a dash mounted starter button that is to be pressed once the ignition key has activated the fuel pump at half-choke following three pumps of the throttle. It is recommend to allow the car to burble for a few moments before selecting drive and setting off for a jaunt. Estimated keenly with a celebrity provenance that perfectly matches the glitz of its era, few compare in this condition. 1970 Jensen Interceptor II Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1966 Ferrari 330 GTC by Pininfarina 2

It is often said that a designer’s work is never done, and especially in the automotive world, as car design is often in a constant state of evolution. Only so much can be done to prepare a car for the real world before it hits production, but keeping up with the competition and changing tastes always bring designers back to the drawing board. Although Pininfarina was surely thrilled with their work for Ferrari in designing the 330 GTC, the firm was clearly keen to keep moving in the right direction for their most famous customer. As such, this 330 GTC was purchased by Pininfarina directly from the factory in July of 1966 for their own use. Showcasing their forward thinking attitude, chassis no. 8727 falls exceptionally early in 330 GTC production, the fourth car built out of 600 completed in total. Upon its arrival with Pininfarina at their headquarters in Turin, only a few hours up the road from Maranello, the firm’s designers and craftsman set about their carefully considered work. Externally, the most noticeable change implemented by Pininfarina to chassis no. 8727 was the pop-up fog lights fitted to the nose. Hidden away when not in use, they could easily be rotated into position by a switch inside the car. These “Supervis” (short for super vision) lights appeared on two of the four 330 GTC Speciales, and were originally penned by Aldo Brovarone for the Superfast I concept car and also famously used in the 365 California Spyder. Keen tifosi will also spot that this car lost its trademark 330 GTC fender vents, and instead boasts vents on the hood, which proved far more efficient at dissipating heat from the engine bay. This new feature, one introduced on this very car, also made its way to 365 GTC and 365 GT 2+2 production. Finally the Ferrari badge on the nose was sunk into the bodywork, and the ‘330’ badge on trunk was removed entirely. The interior was reupholstered in light blue cloth, cooler to sit on in Italy’s hot summers, with the color chosen to compliment the car’s existing Blu Scuro paintwork, a shade known to be a favorite of Sergio Pininfarina himself. Cloth upholstery would later become an option on the 330 GTC as a result. The dashboard vents were changed to house two circular outlets on the top of the dashboard, allowing air to be directed wherever driver and passenger desired, a change that would be carried through to the 365 GTC. A new lever was fitted to open and close the quarter windows, along with a different steering wheel and hub, as well as a recessed ashtray in the center console, but these features would not appear in future production Ferraris. A passenger door lock was fitted and subsequently implemented on later 330 GTCs. After remaining with Pininfarina for a year, the 330 GTC was sold in July 1968 to Amerigo Brizzolara, an industrialist based in Milan, and passed through two more owners in its native Italy before being exported to the United States in the late 1970s, where it has remained ever since. Owned in the early 1980s by John Mason of San Francisco, the Ferrari was sold in September 1983 to California resident James Hampton, who in 1987 sold a fifty-percent interest in the car to John Ratto. Together the two men set about researching the unusual 330’s history and embarking on a comprehensive restoration. This would be no easy feat, as by now chassis no. 8727 had lots its unique foglamps and was finished in silver with black leather upholstery. By 1996, the engine and transmission had been rebuilt by Hampton and Ratto, but employment assignments overseas forced them to temporarily halt the refurbishment. Work recommenced in mid-1999 and coachbuilder Steve Moal was employed to assist in rebuilding the nose with new pop-up foglamps, using a 365 California as a template. Pininfarina supplied the original paint code and the car was thus refinished in the original factory colour of Blu Scuro and the interior retrimmed in tan, making for a highly attractive color combination. The car’s restoration was at last completed in 2002. After retaining the car for another six years following the completion of the restoration, the 330 GTC was sold by its owners into a significant collection in 2008. Later, it was featured in the August 2017 issue of Forza magazine in an article written by Maurice Khawam, who extensively detailed the car’s period modifications, showcasing why the car was so special and how it stood out from its brethren. Acquired by the current owner just under three years ago, the car was entrusted to the Ferrari specialists at Bob Smith Coachworks in Gainesville, Texas where it received just over $60,000 in mechanical work over the course of two years, returning it to running and driving condition following a long period of static display in prior ownership. Invoices for this work are available in the history file. Boasting a fascinating history, this 330 GTC Speciale stands proud as one of the most important examples of the model in existence. Renown for being exceptional driver’s cars, this car’s added provenance and spectacular unique design touches would also make it a fantastic concours entrant, ideal for Ferrari Club of America judging and it would surely garner much interest at Cavallino’s events and other concours events around the world. • 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO 3

THE GTO RETURNS By 1984, the words “Gran Turismo Omologata” carried enormous weight in the Ferrari world. Since 1962, the 250 GTO had been considered the finest sports racer that Ferrari had ever produced. With an astonishing racing record—rivalled only by its sensational driving dynamics—the GTO was cemented into sports car lore as nothing short of a legend. For Ferrari to revive such a legendary moniker, any new GTO would be expected to match or surpass the 250’s incredible record in motorsport. Seeking to contend in the notorious FIA Group B, Ferrari developed and produced the GTO to homologate the model for competition within that series; this called for a production run of 200 cars. Group B was incredibly popular following its introduction in the 1980s, especially in Europe, and Ferrari was eager to jump into the fray—and Maranello was certain that its car would be unmatched in competition. However, Group B was canceled shortly thereafter, leaving the factory with a fully developed and homologated car but no series in which to compete. It was clear that the public was eager to experience Ferrari’s newest no-compromises supercar, and the GTO was certainly not going to disappoint the brand’s fans or customers—even without a spot on the grid. While it shared visual cues with the 308 and 328, there was no denying that the 288 GTO (as it was later dubbed) was more special than its siblings. Visually it held a more aggressive stance, with composite and Kevlar forming the majority of the bodywork. The doors and deck lid were formed from lightweight aluminum, with an imposing shape that hinted at its prodigious performance. The race-bred 2.8-liter V-8 engine with its twin IHI turbochargers pumped out a monstrous 400 horsepower and 366 pound-feet of torque. The 288 GTO could rocket to a top speed of 189 mph, making it the fastest road car ever produced at the time of its unveiling. Its acceleration was equally impressive, and the car could reach 60 mph from a standstill in just 4.8 seconds and 100 mph in 10.2—fast enough to keep everything short of a fighter jet in its rearview mirror. Performance aside, the GTO’s interior was graced with a host of modern amenities. The Kevlar-framed bucket seats were lined in leather, and buyers could request air conditioning, electric windows, and an AM/FM radio/cassette stereo as optional extras. Other than those few comforts, the GTO offered nothing to distract the driver from the task at hand. The new GTO clearly resonated with Ferrari’s clientele, as 272 examples were built by the time production ceased (which was over 25 per cent more than the amount required for FIA Group B homologation). The GTO was the first in the lineage of modern Ferrari supercars, and it remains incredibly rare, seldom seen on the road and even less frequently offered for public sale. CHASSIS NUMBER 56773 The example on offer, chassis 56773, is one of the 272 Ferrari 288 GTOs built from 1984 to 1985. It left the factory on 3 May 1985, finished in Rosso Corsa, with the cabin upholstered in black leather; its “Daytona”-style seats featured optional red cloth inserts. Destined for the United States, chassis 56773 was equipped with air-conditioning and power windows but without a radio, a nod to the racing DNA of the model. Following the federalization process carried out by the North American Ferrari agent, the car successfully arrived in Illinois at the supplying dealer, Lake Forest Sportscars. There, this 288 GTO was sold new to its first owner, Donald Schaff, who resided in Florida. Per the accompanying Ferrari Warranty Card, Mr. Schaff took delivery of his new car on 10 June 1985. Chassis 56773 led a quiet early life and by August 1991 was offered for sale by Walnut Creek Ferrari in California, where the odometer reading was noted as 3,388 km. By 1993 chassis 56773 had changed hands and is mentioned by the Ferrari expert Marcel Massini in his report as being sold in April to Cavallino Imports of Dixie Hills, New York. This 288 GTO then entered the possession of the third owner, Mr. Dennis Farrey of Dani Investments in San Carlos, California sometime in 1996. Farrey retained chassis 56773 for four years, before offering the car for sale in the Ferrari Market Letter on 8 April 2000, stating the odometer reading was 4,517 km. The car was subsequently sold to the fourth owner in 2001. Under this ownership the car experienced regular service attention with corresponding mileage documentation. Detailed invoices are available on file, with a major service completed on 31 July 2020. More than $18,000 was spent at Continental Auto Sports in Hinsdale, Illinois as all the fluids were drained and replaced, while at the same time, a cambelt service was carried out, and a new water pump and spark plugs installed. The final task completed was having a set of four new Pirelli P Zero tires mounted to the wheels, with the invoice noting that chassis 56773 had covered 7,815 km at the point of service. Chassis 56773’s most recent service took place at Continental Auto Sports on 31 January 2022, comprising an oil and brake fluid change and replacement of the oil pressure gauge sensor. Importantly, at this time 56773 has earned its Ferrari Classiche certification, confirming it to be a full matching-numbers example, speaking to its well-preserved and factory-correct state. During the car’s original federalization, the speedometer face was converted to display in miles, however, the odometer calibration remained in kilometers. As a required component of the Classiche Certification process, a speedometer unit with the correct kilometer-indicating face was sourced and fitted; as noted on the 22 August 2022 Continental Auto Sports invoice on file. Displaying just 7,989 km (~4,965 miles) at the time of cataloguing, this 1985 288 GTO represents an extremely rare and exciting opportunity to acquire a premium example of one of Ferrari’s most desirable road cars. Rarely does the chance to obtain such a fine example of a North American delivered 288 GTO avail. Covering all desired attributes, including Ferrari Classiche certification, well-documented provenance, regular no-expense-spared service history, along with original books and tool kit, 56773 is without doubt one of the finest offerings of a Ferrari 288 GTO in recent times. 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright THE GTO RETURNS By 1984, the words “Gran Turismo Omologata” carried enormous weight in the Ferrari world. • 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster

Now that our new showroom here at Belchers Farm is up and running, we’re getting more and more visitors swinging by to take a look around. For the last few weeks, this Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster has been sitting in pride of place. And we’re not over exaggerating when we say that every person who’s walked through the door has left with the gorgeous convertible at the very top of their fantasy wish lists. It got us thinking. Is there a more desirable classic all-round convertible than the 300SL Roadster? Even devoid of the coupé’s signature gullwing doors, the drop-top 300SL has so much going for it. Most obviously, it’s drop-dead gorgeous – a proportionally perfect and über-glamorous embodiment of the 1950s Jet Set. Is it any wonder why it proved such a hit among royals, pop stars and actors in the period? Then there’s the underpinnings – very similar to that of its tin-top counterpart, so retaining all of its motorsport-bred credentials, but with a number of key changes. The slight increase in power to offset the slight increase in weight, for example. The revised single-joint rear axle which made chief engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut so pleased. Or the modified spaceframe chassis, which, when coupled with the relocation of the spare wheel and the slight reduction in size of the fuel tank, made space for a magnificent bespoke luggage set. Genuinely very useful for longer trips. “Most obviously, it’s drop-dead gorgeous – a proportionally perfect and über-glamorous embodiment of the 1950s Jet Set. Is it any wonder why it proved such a hit among royals, pop stars and actors in the period?” Miraculously, neither the looks nor the way it drives are the most overwhelming attributes when you actually drive the Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster (though, of course, they are nothing short of exceptional). It’s the exquisite quality of the car which shines the brightest. Every surface, touch-point and action feels reassuringly solid and of the highest possible quality. Most Ferraris, Aston Martins or Maseratis of the same era simply don’t hold a candle. It's ironic that it was a slump in demand which essentially birthed the 300SL Roadster – a car pitched directly at the sunny West-Coast US market. Today, more than six decades later, the Mercedes-Benz has matured into one of the most sought-after classics and a stalwart of the collector-car market. Chassis number 8500257 The exquisite 300SL Roadster presented here left the Mercedes-Benz factory in the summer of 1958 – one of only 267 examples produced that year. Finished in Weisgrau (white grey) over a Rot (red) leather interior, chassis number 8500257 was specified with a number of optional extras including a Becker Le Mans radio, a full matching luggage set and, most importantly, disc wheels with Rudge hubs – an incredibly rare and desirable feature for today’s collectors. Delivered new to Brussels, this Mercedes remained with its first owner in Belgium for over 20 years, before correspondence indicates it was sold to a man by the name of Jacques Ernest Marie Guegan in Pulheim, Germany. Guegan cherished chassis number 8500257 for eight years, as evidenced by the wealth of invoices, correspondence and detailed driving log, before selling it on to another German owner located in Frechen. This Mercedes’ story continues in the 2000s, when this 300SL was acquired by Daimler AG. A zero-compromise restoration was commissioned to Mercedes-Benz Classic in Stuttgart. Who better to return the car to its former glory than the very company which constructed it in 1958? Chassis 8500257’s current European owner, a man with a stunning collection of classics including a restored 300SL ‘Gullwing’, sought a great 300SL Roadster to add to his stable. He approached Mercedes-Benz Classic itself with a clear mission: to find and buy an example truly elevated by special features above its production brethren and restore it to his unique specification and to the highest possible standard. “ The extensive wonderfully compiled binder confirms the authenticity of chassis 8500257, in addition to the fact it is a fully matching-numbers example, down to the steering box and axles.” Mercedes went to work, using its unrivalled network to discover chassis 8500257, an ultra-rare matching-numbers 300SL Roadster – one of a mere 28 delivered with Rudge knock-off wheels – which had been in the same family ownership in Germany since 1987. Such was the anonymity of this car that even the most highly regarded marque experts were unaware of its existence. With the car in Daimler’s ownership, Mercedes-Benz Classic turned its focus to the zero-compromise restoration. Who better to return the car to its former glory than the very company which constructed it in 1958? It was the owner who took the decision to finish the car in the stunning colour of Anthrazitgrau Metallic (anthracite grey metallic), with the Rudge wheels in a contrasting Blau Metallic (metallic blue). The über-high-quality cabin, meanwhile, is festooned with blue leather, ivory and chrome. The owner also asked Mercedes-Benz to source a hardtop (also painted metallic blue) and two very smart spare bucket seats, which were trimmed with plaid fabric – a specification choice only available to the closed ‘Gullwing’ in period. The spectacular restoration of this 300SL Roadster has been outlined by Mercedes-Benz Classic in its ‘Expert Assessment’, which was issued immediately after the car was completed in 2012. The extensive wonderfully compiled binder confirms the authenticity of chassis 8500257, in addition to the fact it is a fully matching-numbers example, down to the steering box and axles. Today, this 300SL is accompanied by a raft of treasures which only serve to enhance its desirability, from the toolkit, portable jack and matching luggage set to the spare wheel, fabric seat covers and Mercedes-Benz picnic blanket. In addition to the aforementioned ‘Expert Assessment’, the generous history file which accompanies chassis number 8500257 includes copies of its original Mercedes-Benz Fahrzeug Daten card, period spare parts catalogue and workshop manuals, and definitive Mercedes-Benz 300SL book. Perhaps more pertinently than the above, it’s the spectacular quality of this 300SL Roadster which strikes you the most when you see it in the metal. Everywhere you look, the finishing is flawless – telling not only of the quality of the restoration, but of the quality of the manufacturer. The engineering is so exquisite. The engineering is so German. Suffice to say, from behind the large, ivory-rimmed steering wheel, chassis number 8500257 drives every bit as good as it looks. 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster Girardo & Co. Other Cars from Girardo & Co. • 1981 Ferrari Mondial 8

This 1981 Ferrari Mondial 8 was sold new in Modena, Italy and delivered to its first owner in March of 1981 and currently shows 74,498 km. Finished in Grigio, this Mondial 8 represents this mid-engine 2+2 in its earliest iteration, wearing its deviating black trim around the car. Although this car debuted 4 years before the Testarossa, it features what could be considered an early iteration of the Testarossa’s side strakes, which help feed air into the radiators behind the cabin. Because of its 2+2 layout, the Mondial is discussed as the spiritual successor to the 308 GT4 from the mid-1970s, but unlike the Bertone-designed GT4, the Mondial was penned by the famed design house Pininfarina. The interior is classic Ferrari with rich tan Connolly leather wrapped around the seats, center console, lower dash, and door cards. Slide into the driver’s seat and you are greeted by a black 3-spoke Nardi steering wheel, a gauge pod with a large tach and speedometer right in front, and a quartet of smaller gauges off to your right. As the Mondial was intended for grand touring, all of the cars were fitted with air conditioning and a stereo system- which in this car is controlled by a great-looking vintage Pioneer CD head unit. If you need to bring more passengers with you, fold down the front seats, and a pair of heavily sculpted rear seats match those in the front, and are separated by a sizable leather-wrapped console. Powering the Mondial is a 3.0-liter variant of the flat-plane crank V8 found in the 308 GTSi of the era. Fitted with a mechanical Bosh K-Jetronic fuel injection system, the Mondial 8 was rated from the factory at 214 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque, with a remarkable for the time 7,700 rpm redline. This engine was then paired to the 5-speed manual transaxle out of the 308, which features a dog-leg first gear and the infamous metal shift gate in the cabin, which gives the oh-so-satisfying click when changing gears. The Mondial represents an exciting and unique alternative to more conventional classics from this era, like the Porsche 911 SC. For a reasonable amount of money, you have the chance to experience a truly legendary Ferrari powertrain paired with the famed open-gate 5-speed gearbox, but with enough practicality to bring the whole family along with you. 1981 Ferrari Mondial 8 ISSIMI, Inc If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1998-ferrari-550-maranello-03

Firmly placed in Ferrari's history as one of its finest modern-era grand tourers, the 550 Maranello’s combination of elegant lines and legendary front-mounted 12-cylinder engine ensured these cars had the potential to become instant classics. Following in the footsteps of, and sharing its DNA with, the 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’, the 550 Maranello is inevitably compared to its forebear. However, few front-engined Ferraris have justified that comparison quite like the 550. Styled by Pininfarina, as was its illustrious predecessor, the 550 Maranello adopted similarly classical proportions, with a long bonnet, compact cabin and truncated tail. Traditional Ferrari design cues include a bonnet air scoop and hot air outlets behind the front wheel arches, recalling the great ‘Competizione’ Ferraris of the past, whilst the rear incorporates Ferrari’s characteristic twin circular lights. At the heart of any Ferrari lies its engine, and the 550 Maranello’s 48-valve, 5.5-litre V12 produces 485bhp at 7,000rpm. The powertrain is housed within a tubular steel chassis clothed in aluminium bodywork, whilst all-independent suspension incorporates dual-mode (normal/sport) damping, selectable by the driver and further complemented by speed-sensitive power-assisted steering. The 6-speed manual gearbox works in harmony with a broad torque curve, delivering power in a refined yet engaging manner and the combination of excellent weight distribution, composed road manners and almost 200mph mean that the 550 Maranello is a truly accomplished Grand Tourer. On offer here is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive example, classically finished in Rosso Corsa with a black leather interior, and indicating just 18,900 miles from new at the time of photography. First registered on 16th April 1998 to Mr Boland of Edinburgh via Glenvarigill Ferrari, the car was enjoyed by a further two keepers before being purchased by its current private owner in 2015. It's accompanied by its original tan leather book pack and a history file containing a selection of invoices showing maintenance over the years. It was most recently serviced by Supercar Rooms in 2023 at 18,814 miles, at which time the timing belts were replaced, with only a few miles since. Fresh to market and sensibly guided, this striking 550 represents an excellent opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike to acquire a low-mileage, front-engined V12 Ferrari with a manual gearbox - an increasingly rare and highly desirable combination - in arguably the most sought-after colour scheme. 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Series I

Superb restored condition with a vast comprehensive documented history file One of a handful retaining matching-numbers engine, gearbox and rear axle Coveted covered headlight, secondary bumper model 1 of 2 with side vents and 1 of 11 left with full matching numbers 23rd of only 40 models produced That the 40 Pinin Farina Cabriolets produced between 1956 and 1959 are referred to and grouped as a distinct “series” is somewhat misleading since each of these spectacular cars is utterly unique in its combination of mechanical specification, interior appointments, exterior details, and overall character. Despite their differences, all 40 examples share the same basic 250 Gt chassis and timeless style that have garnered the model a revered reputation with collectors. All of the Series 1 Cabriolets were assembled by Pinin Farina in its custom shop, not just in the effort of maintaining a superior build quality, but also in the interest of accommodating the wide variety of requests specified by the car’s original owners – generally top clients of Ferrari. In fact, the people who bought series 1 Cabriolets new were often as glamorous as the cars they drove, with a roster of original owners that include Peter Collins, Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, Pofrio Rubirosa, Count Giovanni Volpi, and Muhammed Al Faisal. When compared directly to the Scaglietti-bodied 250 GT LWB California Spider, an open Ferrari of the period that shares a similar design and chassis, it becomes clear that Pinin Farina’s Cabriolet is an even more refined and mature product. This extraordinary quality, style, and exclusivity came at a price; when new, the Cabriolet was not only the most expensive 250 model by a wide margin, it was also one of the most expensive automobiles money could buy. Factory literature indicates a list price of $14,950 for a new Cabriolet, $3,000 more than the California Spider and $2,500 more than the "Tour de France" Berlinetta. 0849GT The 23rd of 40 examples made, this model left the Ferrari factory in May 1958, originally finished in Bianco over a Turchese Connolly leather interior according to the Ferrari archive. It was subsequently sold to its first owner Enzo Tacchini in Lodi, near Milan, with the purchase price recorded as 5.7 million Italian lire. In September 1960, the car was sold to its second owner, a Milanese resident, before ending up in France with it's 3rd and 4th owners. In 1964, the car’s drum brakes were replaced with disc upgrades. It is recorded in the accompanying Massini Report that in 1971, the original engine suffered a failure. Consequently, the engine was replaced by the motor from a 250 GT ‘Tour de France’, chassis number 0973 GT by Garage Berson of Paris. In 1975, the car found a new owner in Yvelines, France, at which point it was repainted in red and the trim was replaced with a black interior. During the 1980s and 1990s, 0849 passed between owners in England, France and Belgium. Recorded as being offered for sale in the USA in November 1995, in 1996 the car was sold to a new owner in Arizona, still painted red with black leather, featuring secondary bumpers and no side vents. The Ferrari was added to the Guikas Collection in September 2007 - a collector we have dealt with in the past. The car was still fitted with an engine stamped 0949 GT. It was presumably no coincidence that 0849 GT now was part of the Guikas collection which included Ferrari 250 GT ‘Tour de France’ chassis 0973 GT, with the original engine from 0849 GT installed. Finally in 2017 as the car was restored by Carrosserie Lecoq, inevitably 0849 GT was fitted with its original matching-numbers engine (number 0849 GT). The restoration included a repaint to the stylish black it wears today and a retrim of its interior in the original Turchese — a stunning combination. When the car was repainted, it was discovered and evidenced by a number of photos on file, was how straight and untouched, the original bodywork on the car remained. There was also no evidence of the original white paint on the body. It was also determined that 0849 GT once had elegant, more subtle vents installed on each wing line, which is also substantiated in very early period photos of the car. These vents are known to have been installed on just one other 250 GT Series 1 Cabriolet. The newly discovered evidence of these vents, led to them being reinstated in 2021. One of the rarest and most desirable Classic Ferrari models made and certainly a contender as one of the ultimate open top Ferrari motoring experiences, this fully matching numbers car finished in a fantastic colour combination, presents as a fabulous example of the 250 GT Series 1 Cabriolet. The car comes with a huge history file with approximately 400 items in respect of imagery and documents - including the restoration. Talacrest know these rare models well having dealt with over 25% of the production over the years and can confirm this is a reference example and would be a centrepiece in any Ferrari collection. 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Series I Talacrest If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The registration number, HWL 1S, will undoubtedly be familiar to many UK rally fans from the 1980s as it has appeared on many hard-driven Fords over the years. It was originally issued on 1st February 1978 to Hartford Motors in Banbury who affixed it to an RS2000 that they planned to use to do "a bit of rallying". It turned out to be more than a bit as, campaigned by the late Bill Gwynne, it went on to win three Championships - Motoring News, BTRDA and the Welsh. It also won the 1980 Welsh Navigator Championship with Lee Vincent and a 3rd for driver Ian Caddy. In early 1980, Ian purchased the RS from Hartfords (the original Bill of Sale is in the history file) and enjoyed it throughout 1980 until the gearbox broke, using it the following season in the National Forest and Tarmac Championship. It was not used for a while after an accident and over the years it evolved into a flat-fronted Tarmac car. To quote Ian "It got arches and then a 2.4-litre Millington engine, although I always intended to restore it back to its 1979 condition, so I kept everything we took off the car". In the meantime, the registration number HWL was glued to a couple of other Mk2s but is now back where it belongs ensuring continuous history for this famous plate. The restoration commenced in 2014 and was carried out by Ian himself and Malcolm Thorne with the engine built by Tobias Adam of T2 Motorsport and based on a sound 2-litre Granada block, big-valve head, Weber 48s, Kent GTS4 cam and much more. We understand that output is now around 200bhp. The gearbox is a straight-cut, CR, Type-E RS2000 with a hydraulic clutch and an RS2000 bellhousing. The rebuild was based around a tidy 1978 shell in white from an automatic car with a genuine steel RS2000 bonnet, steel doors, fibreglass wings, Kevlar boot lid with an RS2000 spoiler, and a fibreglass RS2000 rear bumper. The car was built to Group 4 Tarmac regulations and the spec sheet/build details run to several pages and are far too long to fit in here, so a copy is available from the car's consignor. Its MSUK Passport has recently been renewed and expires on 01/04/2035, and the whole story can be found in a five-page feature in Classic Ford Magazine from November 2019. (Copy included). Now looking splendid in Frozen White with period-correct graphics and HWL 1S on its nose, it's no wonder that Ian feels a little nostalgic and admits "I'd sooner the car went to someone who can enjoy it, although I actually hope that no-one rallies it -it's just too nice now". 1978 Ford Escort RS2000 MK2 Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
