The Escort RS Cosworth was an 'homologation special' and its sole role was to incorporate parts that Ford planned to use in their rally cars to ensure success in International Rallying. Because it was smaller, lighter and more nimble than any of the Sierras, the combination of Cosworth power, four-wheel drive transmission and an effective aerodynamic package made it a Rally Giant in all conditions. Success duly followed between 1993 and 1998 in the World Rally Championship for manufacturers, but the road cars were very rare - with just 2,500 'homologation special' versions made, becoming known as 'big turbo cars', all capable of 150mph and easily identified by the aptly-named 'Whale Tail' rear spoiler. On offer here is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive example finished in Imperial Blue and specified from new with the 'Lux' pack, adding Recaro seats finished in the more expensive perforated Raven leather, Sigma central-locking, an electric sunroof, electric windows, drivers seat height adjustment, tape player, CD player and more. The odometer, at the time of cataloguing, was indicating just 22,744 miles from new and the accompanying V5C shows that the car was first registered on the 23rd February 1996 and displays only one former keeper. The Escort benefits from a recommission by marque expert, Grahame Goode, in 2022 following years off the road in storage. Over £6,000 was spent at the time including attention to the brakes, fuel tank, driveshafts, new tyres, and a service, all fully detailed in the car's history file, which we encourage all interested parties to go through. The original Dealers Book Pack is also included in the history file along with the stamped service book, sundry invoices showing investment over the years, previous MOTs, and the Cosworth is also supplied with both sets of keys. This is very good Ford in every respect, with just a single previous recorded owner and a low but useable mileage, ensuring it can still be 'exercised' on the right days, reminding its lucky owner just how well they perform and why they have become so sought after. We invite and encourage your viewing of this desirable RS Cosworth to fully appreciate the quality on offer.
