The Modenese company Ferrari always had its roots in racing as the legendary “Scuderia Ferrari”. After the end of the Second World War Ferrari, like Maserati, gradually started building sports cars for the road. The first models were the 166, the 195 and the 212 which were sold in homeopathical numbers. The only common trait with all these cars was the Gioacchino Colombo designed 12-cylinder engine which gradually grew in capacity. 1951 they were accompanied by the 340 America which was equipped with an Aurelio Lampredi designed 12-cylinder engine. The Lampredi engine has different measurements and is commonly called a long block whereas the Colombo engines are known as short blocks. The Lampredi engine allowed for larger capacities than the more compact Colombo design. For 1953, Ferrari presented - mainly for the European market - a smaller capacity variant with the 12-cylinder engine whose volume was limited to three litres, and based on the capacity of a single cylinder this series became known as Ferrari 250s. (ultimately 25 different cars with the 250 designation were bult) With the exception of a small first batch with a Lampredi long block with reduced capacity, all other members of the 250 family were henceforth equipped with Colombo engines. In 1958 the successor to the 250 GT Boano and Ellena was presented, a timelessly elegant 250 GT coupé with a Pininfarina 3 box design and a wheelbase of 2’600 millimetres. It was not only the first Ferrari which was assembled industrially at the new Pininfarina works in Grugliasco, with final assembly taking place in Maranello, it certainly was also one of the most beautiful and elegant designs for a road Ferrari ever and an epitome in sophistication and understatement! In total 359 examples including prototypes were built. The 250 GT coupé used, as did its predecessor, the chassis type 508 which over the years had enjoyed continuous development. Our gorgeous Ferrari 250 GT coupé with chassis # 0995GT was delivered to its first owner in Italy in October 1958 in “Grigio Glace” with a black leather interior. In the same year the car was shipped to the USA and registered in California in 1959 from where, in 1967, it already was brought back to our shores. Here the coupé enjoyed a number of prominent collectors and, at the beginning of the 90s, was restored and equipped with a red leather interior. In 2000, the Ferrari was sold to an enthusiast who had the engine overhauled by a well-known specialist. In 2012/13 the coachwork was restored once more, and it received the current paint with the elegant dark red roof. The interior was recovered with the original black leather. In October 2015, the 250 GT received the coveted Ferrari Classiche certification, attesting matching numbers for all important technical elements. Currently this wonderful coupé presents itself in very good and well-maintained condition and will be handed to a new owner with a well-documented history including a Massini report and the Ferrari Classiche certification. The Ferrari recently enjoyed a major servicing, and the most recent veteran MOT was completed in May 2025.
